Professor Chen is, first of all, a very nice guy. He is very willing to help/reexplain/find an alternate explanation for material in class and by email. I did not have great interest in statistics before this course, but he made the course stimulating and bearable. Highly recommended.

Makes Stats incredibly bearable. Very helpful. Very nice and will work with you until you understand a concept. Extremely when it comes to grading if anything he helps the class out by making the test reasonable in length and sometimes will curve certain tests. DO all your homework and just email him if you are confused. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

By far the best professor I've ever had. He's extremely clear and helpful to the point where you feel like you're being pampered. I hate math, but Mr. Chen actually taught me in a way that I could understand what was going on at ALL times. He loves Stats enough to explain what a p-value was like 60 times. I wish i could have taken him before my other math classes, it would have saved me a couple grand in tuition!!

Great professor! Keeps the 2 exams reasonable for intro stat. Very helpful. Even videos the lectures so you can watch online! I really dreaded stat since I'm not a math guy, but even I got an A! Just do all the HW assignments and ask if you need help.

Mr. Chen is the best math teacher I've had. He really is dedicated to helping his students understand. He is so cute too! Really funny in a nerdy way. Actually seems sad when students don't do well! He would come to class early to answer questions, had office hrs, put videos of his homework and lectures online, and gave extra credit opportunities.

Professor Chen is intelligent, technologically-savvy (he posts lectures/HW on YouTube), and conveys the material very clearly. He is VERY fair in his grading so if you pay attention in class and study, there's no reason to not pass the class. Overall, the class was quite manageable and I learned a lot. Stats isn't as bad as I thought it would be!

I've always been horrible at math, but got an A+ in this class. It was challenging for sure, but he uploads lectures and step-by-step homework solutions to Youtube. Very clear about what will be on exams, understanding, relaxed and friendly. If you're willing to put the (hard) work in, you can easily do well in this class.

LOVED! his class and I hate math. I learned a lot and math has never relly been a strong subject for me. Don't bother with math at junior college (especially SMC)it will just be a waste of time and money. TAKE MILES CHEN YOU WONT REGRET IT!

This professor is awesome! I have always had math issues and when I had to take stats, I was truly in a panic. Mr. Chen made it entirely tolerable. It was very hard and I had to study a lot, but I went to see him on his office hours and he cleared up so many things for me. He also is super tech savvy and posts his lectures online which is amazing!

Mr. Chen is the absolute best! I just wanted to pass this Math requirement and ended up with an A. He challenges you in a fun way. Very helpful, even emailed me back on a holiday! The Youtube homework is key. The class is not easy, but he pretty much holds your hand throughout. Don't get behind as everything builds. He is adorable!

Great Teacher. Easy at the beginning but gets harder yet manageable at the end. I would recommend this class. Chen is very helpful. If you miss a class his lectures are online to view. The midterm is Ok but the Final is kind of hard. At the end I got an A though

Prof. Chen goes out of his way to make sure that anyone who makes the effort will understand the material. If you are driven, you will do well in this class (unless you have never taken algebra, in which case it will be beyond you). The material is pretty dry, yet Prof. Chen opened my mind up to a new world where statistics are behind everything!

There are 9 homework assignments worth 20%, 4 quizzes 20% (lowest score dropped), the midterm 25%, and final exam 35%. Professor Chen is crystal clear in his teachings, records/posts all class lectures on his website, offers office hours for students who have questions or want help, and offers additional extra credit on tests. Very fair class! A+

Professor Chen is absolutely amazing! I am horrible at math and made it easier for me! He goes out of his way to help you and posts him doing the homework online in case you get stuck. His midterm and final are really hard but if you do well on the quizzes and do all the homework you will definitely pass. Also he lets you use cheat sheets.

In all honest, Professor Chen is the greatest Professor/ teacher I have ever had! I knew absolutely nothing about Statistics but because he is such a good professor, I was able to learn the material. I know so many people who struggle with Stats, DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND TAKE PROFESSOR CHEN! Plus I enjoyed going to class every single meeting!

Mr. Chen is a fantastic teacher who really cares about his students' learning. He goes to painstaking lengths to record not only each lecture but also step-by-step solutions to homework problems. He's also very gentle and patient, so my classmates and I always felt comfortable asking questions. I'd definitely take another class with him!

Professor Chen is a great teacher. Statistics is difficult as it is but he puts it at a level where most students can understand. Just do well on your quiz and do all your homework. Also attned not if all lectures. He generous in his grading and will help you pass. Do well at the beginning of the quarter and you will do fine. Hard at the end.

BEST math teacher I have EVER had! math teachers are always so mean and robotic for some reason.But professor Chen is the sweetest,kindest, nicest, and fairest math teacher I have ever had. I truly learnt statistics in this class. His lectures are so clear. What also amazed me is that the course structure is highly organized in a 12-wk class. He made youtubes for the homework solution. This makes doing hwk a lot less pressure and you'll get full credits. Quizzes help prepare you for the exams. Do yourself a favor, take prof Chen.

You have to work hard if you want an A.It's not an easy A type of class.If you do the work,it'll pay off.he is a pleasure to have as a professor and is fair.He provides many ways to learn the subject(youtube vids., recorded lectures & suggests what to read in the text book.He doesnt waste your time.Chances for Extra Credit but only on tests &Exams.

One more thing. The "cheat sheets" that he allows you to use are only meant for formulas and things like that. Also the facebook page is a great way to get quick answers to any questions you may have. i LOVE that he gave us progress reports at after the midterm, just before the final and after the final. he certainly goes above and beyond.

You will learn a lot from him. Very helpful. Do the homework and ask questions. Very patient. Practice the final and you will do well. Takes interest in his students. No language barrier. Know the subject matter and knows to impart it. Highly recommended.

I know many of us have the math phobia, but Prof. chen makes it alright. Makes the work extremely approachable he gives you an endless amount of resources to help you ( you can even use index cards on the quizzes and test!) Take especially if math isn't your thing

Prof Chen just recently won the distinguished teaching award, and no wonder! He is simply the best teacher I've ever had in my 20+ years of being in school. He is not only your lecturer and professor, but he tapes all the solutions to homework problems, so if you get stuck, it's like having a private tutor work it out right next to you. THE BEST.

I found this course extremely challenging. It was not an "Easy A" as previous post stated. You have to commit A LOT of time to studying. With that being said, Professor Chen, is an impeccable instructor! He records all his lectures, homework problems, and even creates a Facebook page for the class! He's one of the best professors i've ever had! :)

Study harcore! It starts off with means, standard deviation, and probabilty. It may seem straight forward at first, but if you don't have a solid foundation of these concepts, you WILL get lost after the midterm. The final is extremly challenging. I got an A, but it required soooo much studying. midterm is 30% final is 35%! DONT MESS UP ON THEM.

let me start off by saying this is not an easy class. you have to do the work to get the grade you want. That being said i thoroughly enjoyed this class, mr chen was super helpful and explained the material very clearly. show up every day and do the work and you should be fine.

I love this professor, totally changed my world towards math specifically statistic.I was scared to take this course since i had not taken math for almost 7 years but he motivated me to approach math in a different way.He provides you anything possible to succeed in this class, you just need to take careful notes and pay attention closely.

This class is the best organized class I have ever taken. Almost all lectures are recorded and posted on the class website, and the expectations and directions for assignments and exams are clearly laid out. The class is definitely not easy, but all the tools are provided from the instructor's side. I strongly recommend this class.

Dr. Chen was without a doubt the greatest math professor I've ever had. Dr. Chen is one of the coolest teachers I've ever had. He puts in A LOT of extra effort to help students pass, such as recording himself doing all of the homework problems and uploading them to youtube. It can still be difficult. My Advice: If you can't be bothered to complete the first homework, drop the class, you aren't taking it seriously.

Highest recommendation for Miles Chen. He really does go above and beyond to give students the tools they need to learn the material succeed on tests. He puts up practice quizzes, study guides, and videos of HW answers. You need to do your part with those tools: do HW, excel at weekly quizzes, and use those guides to study for tests. Non cruise.

Professor Chen is an AMAZING math professor! I have always struggled with math, and it was about 12 years since I last had a math class! Prof Chen made math comprehensible and FUN! I truly enjoyed every class! He is hilarious and really cool. If you just do the work you will succeed. I truly recommend you to take Prof Chens class, he is the BEST!

Mr. Chen is the best math teacher I have ever had! Not only does he "dumb" it down and condenses nicely enough for us (as I and others are not math majors), he video records every single lecture. You can go home, go online and listen to everything he said in class, what he wrote on the SmartBoard, homework problem solutions on YouTube. WORTH THE $!

Attendance is important. An understanding of algebra does help but once you get the formulas you can get by.

The subject will be hard for most wherever you take it. Dr. Chen is going to provide you with everything you need to pass, but you have to take advantage of it. If you don't go to class, study notes, and use the practice quiz you won't pass. Put in the work and Dr. Chen will teach you what you need to succeed. I'm horrible at math and I passed.

Gives a prereq test in the beginning of the semester that is worth 20(!!!)% of your final grade, that will destroy your grade. I could easily get a B or A in this course, but this prereq has totally eliminated my chances of an A. Ruins the whole purpose of taking this course as a shortcut. Otherwise a good prof. Takes attendance at random classes.

Very good prof. Changed the prere to 10% in the middle of the semester, before that it was very stressful tho. Uploads all lectures online (he records them), gives great go-throughs and gives practice quizzes that are almost identical to the ones given in class. Does take attendance at random classes, so be there. I did not use the book at all.

I was nervous to take a math class for the first time in over a decade. The class is designed like a map to guide you through learning the content from start to finish. It's meticulously organized, lectures are recorded for you to review, practice problems solidify the concepts and help you succeed on the tests. The best stats prof. you'll find!

All the handwritten slides were super helpful! There is a quiz and HW due every week. Total of 4 labs. So it was a lot of work. The final definitely surprised me with 15 conceptual questions that were super hard. There were no practice questions or explanations given at that level of difficulty at any point in class.

Chen is a great professor. This class was hard! I got my bachelors in CS and already took a statistics class previously. This class went much more in depth into statistics, which I loved. This professors loves statistics, and it shows. It's a lot of math (of course), and I 100% recommend this professor for anyone interested in biostats

Engaging professor who makes stats fun. Use unstuck ai, the textbook, and office hours to succeed. Challenging but manageable with effort. Definitely worth taking.
