Such a fun class! Although prone to tangents, class was always interesting, engaging, with lots of laughs. Assignments are creative & pretty easy. Notes are not always great since Miles can really get off topic sometimes but he makes the stories memorable. As long as u can remember & be creative, you'll have a good time :)down to earth & a nice guy

Amazing prof. to a great course! Had lots of background info on every story and author we read. Brought in cool old/original copies of some of the books. Went off on (sometimes) funny tangents all the time, yet they somehow always tied in with the material. Lots of reading, and a story for everyone. Cinderella and Harry Potter I in the same class!

The most entertaining English professor in Ottawa. Very approachable person. As mentioned many times by others, he goes off on tangents - but they are hilarious and don't make him disorganized; in fact, his humour helps us get through 3-hour classes. He is a very fair marker and his expectations are quite clear. Highly recommended.

Although I am an international student with bad writing ability, his course is easy to understand and it also helps me a lot. I had no idea how to write formal letters before going to the course. His examples for assignments are also helpful. :D

He's an examplary prof. He knows what's boring and what's not. You get marks for just doing the assignment or attending the classes. If you don't have a clue, what happened in class or need help writing your assigments go to his office hours. AND NO EXAMS. everything leads you to the final report.

Awesome prof. Very personable, willing to work with and help students. He has an amazing, dry sense of humour which makes his classes very enjoyable. He knows when material is boring, necessary, or just ridiculous and adjusts accordingly. Good marker. Could not be happier with him and his class! Odd obsession with walruses though.

Honestly, he is pretty amazing as a prof. His lectures are easy to follow. He gives you a lot of chances for marks. He is surprising REALLY funny, in a nerd type of way. He occasionally takes attendance for marks so attending class is necessary. His assignments and mid-terms are pretty easy. He also will give you clear instructions to do well

Very clear about what he expects from you. Take notes in his lectures because he literally tells you exactly what he wants from assignments. Very light work load. Go to DGDs, they're not that long and attendance counts. Easy class. He's also hilarious, but I'm not sure if it's on purpose or accidentally. Really enjoyed the class, good prof.

Very helpful. His lectures did have tangents, but overall his expectations are clear. He tells you the exact format of the exams, and this helps you a lot for studying since you can easily narrow down what you need to know. The first English course I took at University level, and he was a really fair grader. Lectures are important. Easy A or A+.

Helpful professor. Lectures are good and expectations are clear, though you should supplement your studying with Sparknotes or other resources. Course may seem overwhelming at first, but he basically tells you how to study for the exams. Great elective to take for anyone who is good at English.

His lectures are really cool, but I wish he'd use a mic!! His marking is fair, though what separates him from others is his willingness to help. He answered everyone of my emails no matter how annoying I got. Absolutely amazing and respectful man. I also adore how he states a few times how he doesn't care what you wear. Great morals.

Definitely a great and interesting course, but the reading load is heavy and you won't do well in the course without reading. He provided 8/10 titles, so the costs were low (assuming you own the first Harry Potter, you only need Charlotte's Web). If you want to take this course, do the readings, listen during lectures, and you'll be fine.

Easily my favourite prof that I have come across. He's hilarious and his side notes never cease to entertain students. Very passionate and cares about his students.

He adds some personal stories here and there, which is very surprising for a nerdy english professor. He doesn't care if you leave in the middle of class or if you are on your phone the entire time. Make sure to do the readings ahead of time because he will talk about them in class.

Really nice prof. Do the readings and also check sparknotes. It's a easy class even though you gotta read one book per week.

Funny guy, amazing lectures. The lectures taught mostly grammar. They also state their pet peeves such as sans serif fonts during the lectures so you have to go. There are no tests, and the in class quizes don't count for marks. Instead, you have 4 reports, the final one 20 pages, that you're left on your own.

Enjoys what he does, and it shows in his lectures. Interesting readings, and exams were of the 'choose x options from list y' type. Reasonable workload, and he rewarded people who stayed for the second half with hints for exams. Note: Read the material. Exam questions are specific, and cannot be answered drawing only on their context/wording.

Most amazing guy. Truly passionate about comics and graphic novels and I learned so much in this course. I was already a comic fan, but Miles really made me love new and different genres. Marking was a little tough, but fair considering it's a 2nd yr course and I was in 1st year. Best part is you get a bunch of cool comics to keep at the end.

He wants you to do well. Don't be afraid to e-mail him and ask for guidance with an assignment - he'll be happy to help. You may get your first paper back and be very disappointed... but that's likely because you didn't listen to him. When he says orient the reader... you ORIENT THE READER. Very passionate about his job among several other things.

Dr. Tittle's lectures make the dull material seem super exciting. Assignments are straightforward but marking does seem rather tough. If you follow his instructions you shouldn't have too many issues though. Would take again.

One of my favourite classes to go to. He is such an amazing professor to have and made it worth going to 8:30 classes. Super chill and gives great feedback on what you should do on assignments. Great prof, gives very thorough feedback on assignments so you know exactly want needs to be improved for the next one. Class are very laid back and funny, so you won't be too bored.

Super kind and caring. I highly suggest taking his class! His class consists of all essays/assignments, no midterm or final exam. The discussion group takes attendance for 10% of your grade. Try your best on the assignments and I assure you they will be graded fairly. He always tries his best to allow students to achieve the highest possible grade.

Prof. Tittle is by far the best English prof I've ever had. He's funny, engaging, and is all around a really nice guy. He's very passionate and knowledgeable about the works we studied in class, and his enthusiasm is contagious. I highly recommend him as a teacher.

Professor Tittle was very accommodating during this semesters situation. He provides very good feedback on your essays. In his lectures he was very passionate in his teachings, he sometimes brought in artifacts or his own books to the lectures and passed them around. You will lose time in his class cause he will be very interesting to listen to.

Professor Tittle was extremely clear in his expectations for his students in this online course. He was always available for explanations or questions and was very lenient for giving extensions due to the transition to online learning. He was informative, lectures at times a bit dry, but to be expected in English classes. Definitely take his class!

Tittle is a great lecturer, even for a relatively sparse course such as this one. But more so than anything else, he cares about the students, and he is almost insufferably flexible and kind. While his marking isn't always the easiest, the requirements for every assignment and report is clear. Just watching your formatting and details.

Dr. Tittle is most definitely the best English teacher I've had in all my years of education. The guy knows how to teach a boring subject. His marking is a bit tough, but he's always open to reviewing your reports to look for opportunities to provide more marks. He is very responsive by email, takes up to 1 or 2 days for a response. With 1112, he knows the students are there because they have to (required by the engineering department). Even though the class is pretty basic stuff, he loves to teach the class. He is very understanding and emphasizes that we should not stress over this class and truly cares whether we are doing well mentally and physically. He is the best!

Prof. Tittle is a caring professor who wants to see his students learn and succeed. He is a fair marker, work-load was reasonable, and attending class was enjoyable. Dr. Tittle is definitely the best prof I have had so far. His criteria/rubrics were always clear and the examples given were reflective of what was expected. He is also very flexible with deadlines and was accommodating throughout the semester. If you properly follow the criteria and apply the feedback, you will not have difficulties in this class

He posts very clear grading criteria, so make sure to read it very carefully. Closely follow the examples he gives for how assignments should be completed. Lectures are laid back and informative but in no way mandatory; you can easily get by without attending a single one.

All the grades were on assignments and quizzes, but grading criteria is very clear and precise. You are either marked by a TA or the prof for the whole course, so reading the feedback and adjusting your work is important. Easy A if you are comfortable writing in English and read the rubrics. Textbooks aren't necessary nor the lectures.

He's genuinly a nice prof. I took his graphic novels class and he was always really nice and conversational with students. He's also nice with assignments, he gives clear feedback and might even give you a chance to redo an assignment if it's really lacking. You can get by without the lectures but I'd adivise you to go them, they're interesting

Genuinely cares for his students, makes the lectures interesting, and marks fairly. I'm not an English major so I'm not sure if this is normal, but the lectures naturally flow from topic-to-topic instead of having a clear structure. The readings were interesting and he has many great analyses. He encourages engagement. Clear expectations for exams.

Honestly, you could skip all the lectures and still do okay. Often, lectures are quite off-topic but pay attention to what he's nitpicky about (in other words, read and use the feedback for the next assignments). Funny guy who cares about his students, just do the work and you'll do well

The professor was very interesting, very humorous, also not very fast. And very patient. The slides are all uploaded to brightspace so we can review them easily. Each assignment will have at least one good example on brightspace, giving you plenty of time to complete the assignment.

Despite the course being a 7-10 on a Friday, the lectures were lively and interesting enough for me to attend. His selection of readings is also quite good. The in-class discussions often get off-topic but I would recommend Dr. Tittle to anyone who has to take ENG1120 as a mandatory course for their BA!

Miles Tittle is a wonderfulwonderful man. Every time I couldn't make it to his class I was genuinely sad.

Had a class with him in Fall 2022, and he was great. He and the TA were very helpful and the freedom on assignments was really nice. Some of the grammar quizzes felt a bit unfair, but they were only worth a small portion of the grade.

The DGDs are very important, lectures are pretty much unrelated. If you learn how to write coherently, the course goes by pretty well.

Course consists of many grammar quizzes, however he often helps out the first couple of questions to those who come to class! He is an exceptional professor and super understanding with students with deadline extensions. He gives great feedback, and don't be scared to contact him he responds very quickly.

Course is graded on only several things, and content heavy on the 2 chapter books and several short stories. Make sure to show up to class to get a more in depth understanding for each book/story. Prof is super accessible outside of class, and if you have any issues with your grade he is very understanding!

Professor Tittle seems like a great guy. This course was compulsory and I chose him based on his reviews here. After 17years in post-secondary I can honestly say I'm not disappointed. Thought provoking lectures and a very funny and cool human. He also did a phenomenal job of choosing spectacular readings for the course. Would definitely recommend.

he actually cares about his students doing better and learning. very accessible outside of class and is very understanding in general. his feedback is always very logical and he is not a hard grader. midterm was online as well and his final was very easy. highly recommend!!

Professor Tittle is among the very few professors that I would retake at uOttawa. His lectures are entertaining and foster great discussions. The grading criteria is clear and concise. Get ready to read - after all, this is an English class. The course contains some short, medium and long essays. Finals is in essay format as well. Thank you! :)

One of the funniest profs at uOttawa. Attending lectures are more of a suggestion. Can get a easy A+ in the class by reading the textbook and putting in the effort to write well.

Professor Tittle is amazing. Such a funny guy, I only went to lectures to hear his jokes. If you're taking technical report writing, chances are you are a STEM major who hates writing (me). CHOOSE THIS PROF you won't regret it. Amazing TAs too, super easy graders. He's a very caring and laidback professor I highly recommend for this course!

Funny and easy going prof. Had no exam or midterm, just 3 papers which was nice. Attendance was taken for participation marks but everything you need to actually write the papers was online.
