She's okay. You'll get used to her accent in no time and if you pay attention in class, you'll see she's actually pretty good. I've heard from other that she's more helpful during her office hours than when she teaches in class, but i'm not sure about that. All in all, she's really energetic and laughs A LOT. She'll definitely help you when needed.
She is ok. you can see what you doing in the class her acent sometimes it confuses a little bet but so far good teacher
Definitely one of the better Math professors! She is helpful and nice, however, she tried to rush through sections (which doesn't help students really). But overall, pretty clear most of the time. Very fair grading.
she is niceand helpful. Tests are tricky
Her tests and quiz's were easy too, the problems are a lot easier on her quiz's and tests than on the homework. Although it's hard to understand her because she gets off topic a lot. She's too happy and she's always late
She is a great teacher. Plus, she hands out plenty of extra credit points. Highly recommended. People who complains about her accent and her being unclear are BSing. The subject itself is hard, and just because some people couldn't understand the idea, they blame her for it.
Her class is easy. she is very happy everyday and always late. The final is not as easy as tests and quiz!
She can be all over the place sometimes during lecture; take notes and try your best to pay attention. Quizzes are easier than hw problems; tests are okay but the m.c. q's make it relatively harder. She is a very nice, cheerful person, so if you don't get something, ask her and she will help you out. Better than most other math teachers at De Anza.
I can't understand what she says.test is horrible.don't take her class
She is the best teacher, very knowledgable. Best of all the instructors i have had. She is hard for those who dont come to the class and donot do their homework. you will learn math in her. Those who love math must go to her class. She goes into details which is good and explain reason for everything unlike other instructors who just want us to cra
laughs way too much - spiffy person haha. 3 midterms, 7 quizzes, drops 1 - easy, goes over exactly whats on it right before. ATTEND class for extra credit problems, VERY helpful to boost grade. course is somewhat hard in general but study and attend class - easy B at least.
She's nice and good at teaching. At least, easy to get an A from her.
her teaching style is quite fit for HK students as long as most of my Hk friends give same advice. lots of people complain her accent it actually doesn't really matter. drop down the note and it will be very helpful. through the green sheet suggest ti 83/86 but she will let you use other calculator. Do your homework everyday an it will be easy A.
A wonderful, capable, understanding professor. The class is an easy A if you pay attention to lectures and do most of the homework. She doesn't even ask you to solve most of the test problems, only set them up and most of her exams are multiple choice!
Very smart lady, yet very down to earth. She goes really fast in lecture, but then she will review anything that is a hard topic. She is very helpful in office hours and gives as much e.c. as she can but you have to study and do homework to get an A.
Explains everything completely. Teacher is easy, class material is difficult. She explains everything right before she hands out the quizes. Attend and take notes. Trig is not an easy subject but she does her best to get to know you and help you as best she can.
She is really tough when it comes to tests. She will always try to trick you on test questions...so watch out. She gives extra credit and doing your homework and doing good on the final exam really helps your grade. that's what saved my grade. if you do on the final exam, she'll replace your lowest midterm. she also drops your lowest quiz grade.
ison is a really sweet teacher. shes really clear when giving out lectures and her quizzes are pretty simple and to the point. each week theres a quiz, 3 midterms which are half multiple choice and half write outs and 1 final. i ended up w/ a C in her class, but im not a math wiz in the first place. so if u study efficiently, u'll get a good grade.
Very caring teacher. She is always sweet and in a good mood. While she tends to talk fast, she does fully cover all the material. No surprises, plenty of chances for extra cred, and she goes over the material prior to tests and quizes.
Fast talking and fast teaching. if you have a solid math background, then she is good for you. Bruch up on your Algebra before taking trig from her.
talks very fast. hard to understand what she is saying. goes over material in class but doesn't teach you anything. just shows how something is done. homework do every tuesday. 3 mid-terms and a final that covers EVERYTHING. hard transition from math210 to this class. i suggest another math112 teacher.
Her accent is hard to understand and she laughs way too much during her lectures. In my opinion her tests were on the harder side and the final is ****ulative. If you are not a "math person" like me I would sugest taking someone else. More than half the class had dropped her by the end of the quarter.
If you take Ison, be prepared to do a lot of study yourself and ask her questions during office hours. She has extra credit for those who do the pop up classwork and they saved my A this quarter. she does not explain materials very clearly, since this class has a lot to go through, but she is very helpful during her office hour.
Great Teacher with lots of knowledge. Slight asian accent, so pay attention to what she's explaining. Homework opt. Small quiz every week. If your there every class (or miss 1 class) & pay attention, you should be able to pass.
Kind person. Willing to give as much time needed to help you. Hyper in class. Workload of Math112 is not easy if you're not good in math (like me), but she is willing to help for as long as you want. Tests are pretty easy. Reviews right before the quiz. Reviews the day before every big test. If you want someone to walk you through Math, she's good
good teacher.if u are willing to work hard.she is very helpful.
This woman is one of my favorite math teachers. She loves her job and she's always very positive. She's super committed to helping her students and is probably the easiest teacher on campus for upper level math. She only makes you learn what is necessary and she devotes an entire day to test prep and reviews before EVERY quiz. She's wonderful!!
Very fast talker and teacher. If you have a strong math background, you will do fine in this class, extremely easy. If you find yourself struggling in math a lot then she is not the best teacher to take. Slight Asian accent. Laughs quite a lot during lectures. Quizzes every week, exams every 2 weeks. Boring class, total waste of time.
Although she has some accent, she's very nice and patient. Go to the class, do you homework, and you will get a A very easily.
first off i dont like math. i took ison for 112 passed, now taking 114 with her. shes pretty good, just go to class and pay attention to her and be nice. if you suck at math you can squeez by, i can.
Heart of gold!! SO, So, So willing to help you learn! Funny, kind of frantic, but in the most extremely charming way possible. Alllways smiles and laughs. makes me happy, even though i HATE! ALGEBRA! - she takes time to help you understand though. Very approachable. Great teacher overall. Great teacher especially for the student in need of help!!
I don't know what they people are saying when they say she's bad. Her quizes are incredibly easy, and tests and final aren't any worse. The suplemental packet was a bit crazy and rushed but everything else was made extremely clear. She even spent a couple days on one idea because so many people were struggling with it. Very helpful.
This teacher is one of the best at DeAnza. I always struggle in Math and she has helped me succeed where no one else could. I highly recommend her. She is a GREAT math teacher!
She's not that bad. Quizzes are pretty easy, and you'll have no trouble with the tests if you take advantage of her study guides/reviews & do your hw. Homework itself is a small part of your grade, but it'll help you in the long run. She seems to be energetic most of the time, rarely in a bad mood. She has a slight accent, and tends to laugh alot.
Such a nice teacher, and it was an extremely ez class. you can even miss a couple days a week and still pass with an A. She is a little hard to understand, but that's only because she gets so exceited while teaching... take her she's always willing to help you and clarify everything trust me math.. actually school isnt my thing lol.. =]
Good teacher! Her enthusiasm for teaching is inspiring to students. I think she is a bit underrated because she an accent. (Her accent doesn't get in the way of her explanation however.)
Ehhhh... She's nice in person, but as a teacher she's a bit strict. (E.g. she doesn't like accepting homework, won't let you take quizzes on other days, et cetera) If you take her class seriously enough, you should be fine.
I am not very good at math, but i got an A+ in this class. if you stay on top of your work, you'll find everything easy. This class was reallllllly helpful and easy~
She's a great, passionate teacher. Very helpful, kind. Things I dislike about her is that she gave us multiple choice tests (even though there were easy, multiple choice tests can be tricky), no note cards at all on tests, and she can jump ahead because she gets too excited and sometimes doesn't make sense. Overall, good teacher.
Her quizzes are very short, but really tricky. She does not review any trigenometry concepts which makes everything harder. She is extremely nice, sweet and is really willing to help. Reading the entire chapter before it is discussed in class is a must if you want to understand and follow the lecture. Her final was really tought too. Good luck
I like her a lot. She is really nice and wants you to understand what she is teaching. I have gotten F's in math all throughout high school and for once in my life I have an A in math, all because of her. Her accent is not hard to understand. Since everyone learns differently, she gives alternative ways to learn a problem. I'm taking her again!!
ISON IS THE BEST MATH TEACHER YOU CAN EVER EXPECT. SHE IS WILLING TO EXPLAIN THE MATERAL OVER AND OVER AGAIN UNTIL YOU GET THE CONCEPT. IM TAKING HER CLASS RIGHT AND GOING TO TAKE THE NEXT LEVEL WITH HER NEXT QUARTER. SHE DOESNT GIVE A LOT OF HOMEWORK. HER QUIZ AND MIDTERMS ARE EASY JUST LIKE MATH PROBLEMS THAT SHE GOES OVER IN CLASS.
This class is AGONIZING. Ison is a very nice person and wants to help, but her presentations are scattered, rushed, & not at all representative of the midterm material. Quizzes are short & easy; tests are way too long, have no partial credit, and are not even close to the homework problems. I studied TONS and couldn't get an A no matter what! :(
Please DO NOT TAKE HER!!! Exams are all multiple choice- long and hard. No partial credit. She does not explain any problems; she just confused me! I got all A?s for pre-cal and I can?t do it in here. Take somebody else.
Awesome teacher who really cares about her students. She has a slight accent and a nervous laugh but if you can get used to it you'll see she really explains her lectures well. Gives extra credit and attend everyday cause it will be extra credit. A little picky on quizes/tests but if you study it shouldn't be hard at all, easier than others.
She is a nice teacher and she will help you if you have any questions. but when she gives a leacture she is unclear and does not explain really good. The day before the midterm she includes some stuuf that she didnot even explain. So bacically she is a nice who sucks at explainig. b ut if you try hard you might get an A
funny, super bubbly personality. she speaks with broken english but will teach you the material until you understand. highly recommended. great teacher
She is a nice teacher but gives unclear lecture. Basically, if you do not have a basic fundation about calculus, you will definitely lose direction. Extra credits are given only if you attend the study group. If you have time conflict with the study group, extra credits fly.
She is the worst teacher ever! She never talk about the questions that appear on the test!UNCLEAR LECTURE!All she said like a rush! You don't even have time to think about the question!
worst teacher at deanza. she rush through her lecture. if she hates you then you'll fail the class.
There's quizzes every week. She will go over similar problems before you take it, and it's usually like 2 questions (worth 10 points). There's 3 big tests and then 1 final. She gives review before the test and extra credit on Friday's. Broken Snglish, but still understandable. Sweet, helpful!
This instructor is a total joke, when she has a mid term she makes it look easy, but when it's test time she pulls out question that yo have never seen before. The Final was so completely off the text does not even cover what she had on the test. Along with the MPS program you need to be a total genius to pass.
Ison is very nice and really helpful. She's really anal about attendance the first few weeks but doest care after the 3rd. Study for an hr one day before an exam and you're guaranteed an A in the course. She gives out a ton of extra credit for the mathematically inept group.
Mixed feelings. She's kind, and I [BARELY] got an A, but I might try to avoid her. Unclear lectures. Test questions may be easy, but they're multiple-choice--you need to practice enough to be FAST, and have intuitive understanding (some of her questions are strange). Class averages were often low; be wary if math isn't your strong point.
mrs ison is great i love her. math is my worst subject. when i first enrolled in the mps program i did not even know my multiplication tables. now i have passed math 114. there is no way i could have done it without her. such a sweet lady and a good teacher. as long as you do what you are suppose to you will do good in the class.
she does not teach really well...so unclear. i find it boring too and i had my bio with mccauley which made me drop this class
shes the best teacher i took her for 210 all the way to 114 super easy! listen to her lectures and you'll understand the materials do all the extra credits she gives. midterms are super easy almost exactly the same as the review packet final exam are easy too! her class is super easy to pass!!!
I would highly recommend staying away from this professor. Up until this class I got straight A's in math. She is very unclear and rude. Her explanation for her low class averages is that no one comes to class. But if people come to class and still have an F.. doesnt that say something?
I love Mrs. Ison. She is a great instructor and a very nice/sweet lady. To the people who say she is hard and gives bad grades: It's your own fault. Math has always been a struggle for me and Ison makes math understandable. She color codes problems, when she can, and gives alternative ways to show a problem. I wish she was teaching 114 next quarter!
the best teacher ever! although she keeps laughing for no reason, i found this class to be so helpful. she is willing to teach us and the test is quite easy
Very unclear about lectures. I ended up spending 2hrs each day teaching myself the lectures. Her quizzes are ok. Test are nothing like the hw. She says the reason for very low test scores is cuz ppl dont go to class or do hw, but if ppl do go to class/do hw, what does that say? She doesnt even curve. stay away from this teacher.
Great teacher! Highly recommend Enable Math for those who have trouble with Math. The software makes it a lot easier to learn! Ison is a great teacher, she does talk pretty fast, but if you are a visual learner you will do just fine. Tests are multiple choice!
She is a great teacher. She is really easy and dont care about attendance.
I totally agree with all comments from the ratings with green and blue faces. Quizes are ok, but the test questions are definitely not what I saw in the book. no curves on her tests, and like others say, she blames bad grades on skippin class, but I went to almost every single class, and still didnt understand the material. she laughs for no reason
Millia is so nice. Math is my weakest subject and I got an A in the class. I found her to be extremely clear on the lectures. I guess everyone learns differently.. I have taken her twice and would have for 114 if she was teaching this quarter. I would recommend her!
i got A in her math1b last qtr. If you do spend time in her class, you have no problem in getting A.
she is so nice...with such easy quiz, test, you still have chance to take extra credit...take her...easy
She was easy. It was sometimes hard to understand her cuz she would talk hella fast and sometime nothin make the problem understanding. She would also sometimes laugh at her mistakes. the quizzes were hecka easy, and her test grading was hard to understand
this class sucks, if you are falling behind she doesnt help you. it's like its a prejudice for her to people that are falling behind. people have other obligations besides just school. enable math sucks by the way. disappointment of time taking this class.
She is a great teacher!! It is my regret that I can't take her Math 1A class!! Easy quizzes and tests. Extra Credit also available. Extra activities too!! Millia rocks!!
She's a fairly easy teacher, but sometimes she's difficult to understand because to me, her accent sounded British/Asian/American. Her quizzes are exceptionally easy, and her 4 exams aren't bad either. She's always a really happy person, which was a plus since I don't like math at all.
will find it hard to catch her words in the begining but you get used to it. she's really trying her best to explain a concept. quizzes are easy but midterms are tricky sometimes! pratice the question she assigned. they're useful! she's great :)
highly recommended! very helpful and wants you to do well. a lenient grader. highly recommended for math 114, not sure about other math classes though. but she's really nice and does her best to teach you!
This is the fourth time I've taken this class and Millia really is the best. I am horrible at math and until taking Millia Ison, I thought I was doomed. With her multiple choice tests and enable math, I am now mastering the material! Great teacher! Don't know what I would have done without her!!!
If your an engineering major or anything that requires Calculus, take her. She is clear and concise with differential calculus. Differential calculus isn't that hard, as taking derivatives is extremely easy. She teaches it so well and the fact that when you to her office hours and helps you with any problem you do not know how to solve is a big plus
Not too happy, this was my fourth attempt at this class and instead of dropping, I stuck through it and had a C all the way up to the final, only to realize after my graduation that I did not pass. Not happy to say the least. Had to squeeze into a summer course very last minute since grades didn't show up until summer quarter started.
Took her in summer and went to class ever single day and learned something new and did ALL of the hw(which is easy stuff) and had 2 midterms and 1 final. I suggest going to class every single day because then u dont miss out on stuff and u will do well on the tests. Great teacher
She is so clear in explaining the concept!!! Besides, the test is not hard if you study!! Recommend!!!!!!!!
She does her best in trying to explain concepts. She might be a bit hard to understand because of her fast talking and accent. Sometimes, she sidetracks or goes too in-depth, so she has to squeeze in the later concepts at the very end. However, if you go to her during her office hours of after class, she will help you.
If you know the concept from before then take her, otherwise she is so disorganized.EvenWhen she is doing an example you don't know what she is saying is part of the example or the main material. Not recommend if you are new to concept!
Unorganized.Self-teaching class if you are new to the material. For revision is good teacher.Pay attention just to the strong students.Don't take her.
Worst teacher! She doesn't know how to teach.thinks everybody are pro.just cares about strong students.not recommend her if you don't the material from before.
I got an "A" in this class but I 'm agreed with others. If I got A ,coz I knew all of them from the past.
she is very nice and helpful. highly recommended if you are taking MATH 1B for the first time. Her lectures are very clear with lots and lots of exampls. i actually took many classes with her. she has been teaching from a very long time. Got an A in her class and i found her really helpful during office hours
she was great she used this program called enable math which made things so organized. Her tests are easy and she gives extra credit.
Ahh 3rd time taking this course but failed all her tests. They are diffucult. Not clear. She is pretty nice.
She's really nice and clear in lecture. Homework using Webassign. Tests are similar to homework questions. Occasionally gives out extra credit. But never curves the test score. Pretty much expect you to review the material everyday.
She is very unclear in class. She is not a clear speaker, and speaks quickly and incoherently, and does not cover the ideas for long enough to absorb them. She does NOT curve tests at all. Class average tended to be in the 70s for tests. Does a lot of webassign homework, which is time consuming and annoying at the calculus level. Don't take her.
She's a great professor! When you need help, just ask her and she is there! I highly recommend this professor because if you need additional help, all you do is talk to her after class and she will be willing to give it to you with the time she has to give.
she was awesome! she is understanding and helps you out alot. she gives homework online and quizes and tests are easy!
She isnt THAT bad. She knows her math, and she really loves it. Shes always excited to teach, laughs at her own jokes, etc. Although she is nice, she isnt clear. She speaks too fast and she has an accent so it makes it even harder to understand. Also we get a lotof webassign homework which is good, but very time consuming.
She has a very strong accent it makes it really hard to understand what she's saying. I would not recommend her at all. There was a lot of failing student. She teaches very fast and uses an online program which doesn't help you at all. I took her recently in summer quarter 2012.
She is a very helpful teacher and makes sure you get the material. I finally get math thanks to her. Oh and you dont have to buy a textbook, she uses enablemath and you only have to pay 35 bux for that. thats way better than buying a textbook. Quizzes are easy if you get the material. Do HW!
Gives a lot webassign hw, in unreasonable time. Most questions are not related to webassign in test. Test is multiple choice. Avoid her. This class is easy but she makes it difficult for no reason. I should have pass but she screwed me in the tests with questions that i never seen before.
Dude, she is the easiest teacher ever. I didnt study for her 3 exams and 3 of them i got 90+. just do her webassign hw and u will do fine.
She is really not bad she is not a mean teacher and she is not as strict as she could be. People slack off and blame the teacher. I am taking another one of her classes.
She's a really good teacher that teaches really fast but is willing to take the time to stop and help students with their problems. Just do all the homework and pay attention in class and you should be fine. Pretty much quizzes are free points, hw free points, and the tests are everything she reviews in class
Literally the WORST math teacher I have ever had. Has a thick accent that COMPLETELY affects her teaching, she breezes by everything as if you know the information. Does not care about her students, will not try to help you understand the material. Laughs at herself, pretty much talks to herself. Wait for another math class, don't take hers.
She don't like people leave her class while giving out lecture. All her HW/Quiz are online and she has thick accent. if you think you can handle it, good luk
This professor is great, I'm almost done with this class, never had a problem understanding anything, she does have an accent but I think it doesn't affect anything when it comes to teaching. She had us use the enable math website for hw, and we did not have a textbook which was great because math textbooks are expensive.
She is a great teacher! I hate math so much and I love taking math with her. I am so bad at math but got an A for every exams, she just wants us to understand the concept, so her exams are easy if you pay attention to class and do the hw. She is nice to help her students. I will definitely take her again.
She is really nice and her class is easy. She would keep speaking for the whole class time without stopping which makes it hard for some dumb students. If you think you are average or smart take her,if you think that your brain is not as developed as an average person, go take a hike and forget about college as She is easy!Do her homework,it helps.
Mrs. Ison is a great professor, she is very clear, to the point, and exams and quizes are easy, she tests you on the basic concepts of whatever she teaches you, no complicated stuff
I took her precal 1 class during the summer and it was super easy. You don't need the book at all unless you don't pay attention during class. you do need to buy the webassign though. tests and quizzes are just like homework problems. Actually learned in that class too. overall good teacher.
She is a very nice person, but her lecture are most of the time unhelpful. She expects you to know more than what you learn from class and homework. Asking her for help after class is useless no help at all. She's not clarify on how you got the steps to the problem. Take her only if you can self learn or if your a math genius.
At first, I found her careless in lecture but she changed and became more careful soon. She delivers knowledge clearly and effectively. Personally, I like her style because she thinks quick and reacts fast without explaining too much details which I already known. Her reviews before mid-exams are helpful, covering all points that will be tested.
Taking the MATH114 Hybrid. She teaches for about 30 minutes and the rest is online. The program is pretty cool and the class is pretty easy. You get two tries for the tests. Teacher and TA's will help you a ton if you'd just ask.
Disorganized and confusing. Takes a while to get used to her accent, unfortunately. Webassign is a big headache. Other than that, her actual tests are easy if you take time to study.
Hard to understand her accent, she speaks really fast and makes a lot of mistakes on the examples in class. Her tests are easy, and based on the examples she does in class. There is A LOT of WebAssign homework, sometimes 120+ problems a week, definitely the worst part of the class.
Her class is so hard!! The HW is extremely tough, she's a ridiculously tough grader, and the exams will simply destroy you! Take Hassan Bourgoub. He isn't very clear, but at least you won't work your butt off and STILL get bad grades! I studied so hard for this course and I got absolutely nothing for it :(
If you re-take the MATH class, It's gonna be okay. but if you don't, DO NOT take her class unless you spend a lot of time on solving the math HW. The important thing is that her test is easy when you did all of HW.
worst teacher ever!!! Gives lots and lots and looooooots of homework. I got A, B, C on three tests and I have a C in the class because of the homework! I don't have enough time to finish everything and it leaves me with a bad grade even though i understand the material. plus wouldn't let me go to the bathroom during lecture. that was stupid
If you can learn on your own, this is the class for you. She doesn't teach, everything is online and she will never let you leave unless she says it's okay. She has TAs who are helpful. Wouldn't recommend her if math is difficult for you to understand.
Her entire class is an online website which is poorly constructed, so the whole quarter you will be teaching yourself. The website goes through steps for solutions without telling you how it had gotten there. Her lectures are very boring and very unclear. She has a heavy accent which might make it difficult for some people.
Taught through an online software yet the class is in-person. She has a thick accent and speaks quickly, which makes her lectures difficult to comprehend. I basically taught myself through the required software. She gives you two chances for all tests and even the final exam. With the extra chances, everyone should pass.
Her lectures are very hard to understand and she does GIVE ALOT OF HW problems !! Make sure you have enough time for them ! I only gotta good grade because of webassign and the help button .. If you take this class you better be a self learner .
Took this class because she had decent ratings, later found out it was BS. DO NOT TAKE HER. She teaches nothing, all online and you're on your own. 3 tests and 1 final exam. Impossible to get an A unless you ace all 3 tests and ace the final. I got upper B's on all and 100% HW done and finished with a B. She teaches random stuff in random order too
This class is so easy. Your grade is based on 3 tests, and a final. You get 2 tries on a test. 2nd try, you only do the questions you got wrong. Only way you can fail this class is if you're lazy. Everything is done online and no hw.
She's a very smart woman, and she expects her students to be of similar intelligence. She teaches mostly through examples. The tests are fairly difficult, but her pre-exam review helps. Homework gives some extra credit, so you don't need an A on any of the tests to get an A in the class. That said, there is a LOT of HW assigned (all on webassign).
DO NOT TAKE HER I'm ok with math once i understand it and practice but she did nothing to help me. She talks way too fast, does't clearly explain what she's doing and basically just says "just do that and that" without expelling the process. All work is online and she barely teaches the material the is on the online hw. She shows little care
If your one of those students who expect her to magically assume what you need help with her class isn't for you. She does have an accent however all of the class material is available online. Allowing you to practice as much as possible. Laziness, lack of attentiveness, and poor intelligence wont serve you any good. She's a great teacher.
Teaches through examples. If you understand the concept behind whats going on it works out great, if not you're in deep. Assigns TONS AND TONS of hw, but usually a large portion goes toward extra credit.
There's lots of hw, but she offers extra credit bc of that. There's 3 midterms and they were not bad at all. The final was so ridiculous though... She has this accent and isn't clear with what she's explaining, which makes me feel like she's trapped in her own world. She's also rude when you ask for help in person and in email. Overall, meh.
Her class is really easy and all online. She's kinda hard to understand. Three tests and a final, and many many quizzes (which are all online) and you have multiple tries to do them. Only way you'll fail is if you're a huge procrastinator and if you're suuuuper lazy. Say you got 60% on a test, you have a 2nd try to only do the Q's you got wrong.
There is A LOT of homework that you need to do but a decent amount goes to extra credit. Her tests are definitely hard but if you do your homework, you will be able to get around 80%. She doesn't curve so what you get is your final grade. I got a B in this class but I spend a lot of time doing her homework and studying. She is definitely hard.
There's a lot of online WebAssign HW no doubt, however if you do it and spend time practicing the material the tests will be much much easier. There is also extra credit from the homework, which helps at the end of the quarter. That said, do not take this class if you have trouble teaching yourself material, since she is a bit hard to understand.
I rarely paid attention during lecture as it was pretty hard to understand her. However, she isn't as rude as everyone says she is; she's just blunt and to the point in response. She's actually very light-hearted about the subject and she does like to give advice to her students during lecture about the tests and how to still receive an A in class.
Lots of HW, all on WebAssign, which forced me to practice. Generous extra credit for completing all HW. No surprise quizzes. Quizzes: easy, midterms: less easy, final: moderately hard. She did helpful reviews in class before tests. Can make mistakes w grading so always double-check. She has an accent but you get used to it. Nice lady, very jolly.
All the integrals you are expected solve, NO HELP OF CALCULATOR. She thinks all students have the brain of a person who have been teaching math for years. Lectures are so boring and unclear. Test and Quizzes gave me headache after that. Never take her if you can do everything without calculator, integrals, derivatives and more.
Never ever take her if your math foundation is not concrete.
i got an A in this class, but it was a close one. you need a pretty good foundation of math to get an A (i usually got A-'s in high school math and a 780 sat math 2 score to gauge my definition of "good foundation"). Quizzes are easy (you get 3 tries for each problem), testsfinals are hardish. just get A-'s on the tests to get an A in the class.
I'd took both of her classes 212 and 114, and I'd liked them better than the other professors I'd took those classes with. I'd liked her classes because the homework and tests were online, so it made easy to keep doing the problems until you get them right. NO TEXTBOOK OR ACCESS CODE!
I had ap calc in high school, which wasn't hard. This class was tough because it went by so fast. There was so much web assign homework as well. You really have to work hard, OR have the knowledge beforehand. A lot of the material was defined too quickly and unclearly. If you can solve any problem from the assigned textbook chapter, you'll get an A
I NEVER met a RIDICULOUS instructor like her, who did not prepare for the lecture!!! when she goes over the examplesnew ideas, she always realizes she did the whole thing wrong at the end of it, which make the students so confused, and the most frequent word she uses is "sorry". her exams are hard!do not take her, unless you want to ruin your GPA!
Ison just can't teach. She rushes through the material and through examples, stumbles over herself, and doesn't really explain what she does. She assigns webassign, which is a pain and doesn't really help prepare for tests and quizzes. Her tests aren't hard if you already know what you're doing, but if you actually want to learn avoid her.
I don't know why this teacher got so bad reviews... She is amazing! You buy an access code (only $42) to the Aleks that will guide you additionally through the entire quarter. There is no way to get lost unless you don't work systematically. Easy A! Easy quizzes and tests! The teacher is very helpful, clear and supportive. Take the class!
Not bad. Uses webassign ($75) and assigns a LOT of weekly HW which is very time consuming. 15 pts extra credit if you do all, less if you dont do all. Quizzes on webassign are pretty easy. 3 tests 1 final all multiple choice with 2 or 3 short answer questions at the end. Tests are standard not much different than the HW. VERY strict about cheating.
Unless you're are very committed to this course and can self-study, avoid. While she gives lots of examples that are useful when doing the WebAssign HW, she doesn't always go through each example step by step, so this can confuse some students. The tests aren't that bad, but you need to put in the time to study or you will fall behind quickly.
Professor Ison is a very nice lady, really helpful. Tests are mostly MCQ, final is entirely MCQ. Tests are relatively easy, but you have to self-study or get help from tutoring center because she isn't a great teacher. I feel like she understands that and thus tries to make the tests very easy.
she simply is not good at teaching. she assumes that her students have as much as knowledge in mathematics as she does, and goes by materials without explaining them carefully. She also has this accent that is hard to understand. Her quizzes and exams are not that hard though. Overall, avoid taking her class if your base in math is not solid.
I do Facebook in her lectures. Get ready to write an essay about SNS during the class. Instagram is another option to take her class easier.
Unorganized, easily flustered, gets frustrated by students' lack of understanding, and doesn't give the detail we need to even do homework. Her accent isn't that bad, but she speaks and writes so quickly that it becomes draining. Nobody (NOBODY) had the time to finish her first midterm, she said "If you couldn't finish that, you don't belong in 1B"
great math teacher, she will take time to explain things for you, Best math teacher i have ever had!! choose her!! you have a quiz at the end of each class but they are from subjects your just learned, and homework is at your own speed, but make sure to not fall behind.
You have to teach yourself! She talks really fast and mumbles some words. Web-assign will be your new boyfriend/girlfriend. it will feel like your married to Webassign. 2-3 assignments due every monday anywhere from 15-60 questions each. really rude to students if you go to office hours. If you love being around loved ones... PLEASE DONT TAKE HER.
She is alright but is disorganized and rude at times. It's a little difficult to understand her lectures due to her accent. Self study is key. There is also a lot of homework in her class but it helps out with the exams. In comparison to my other math teachers, her exams are doable if you put in the time. There is nothing outrageous on her tests.
She's nice but hard to follow. It's best to get a solid start on hw before class & then her lectures will make a lot more sense. The webassign is annoying but it will help, so STAY AHEAD & don't underestimate its value! Great thing is, her tests are really straightforward. She'll even review the concept behind some tricky problems before the test.
Sucked, not only did i not understand a word from her mouth, she messed up a lot on her own. She also DEMANDED that i start my online quiz by name out loud when i wasnt even done with my practice, i dropped, she didnt let me learn.
She's a nice lady, but not a very good teacher. She was so unclear. She's not very good at answering questions. When a student would ask something, she would say, "It's not hard. It's so easy!" Homework was on Webassign. The midterms were tough. I ended up dropping and taking the class the next quarter.
She is nice and all but she is sometimes rude and makes you look stupid.. She thinks every knows math. What she always tells out class is "It's super easy right?! Next question " and she moves on... She is super unclear and her tests are hard even though we don't learn anything
Ms Ison is the second best math teacher I've EVER had. The online platform is so easy to learn from and lecture is basically exactly the homework so almost no need for assistance. I don't learn well from textbooks and if you don't either, this is the class for you!
It was tough for me to keep up at first since I took calc back in high school, so I put in a lot of time outside of class to self-study. I got very lucky and pulled off an A, but it was a very close one. If you are a hardworking student who focuses on understanding concepts, paying attention in class, and studying outside of class, you'll do fine.
Her tests are 90% multiple choice, which is easy. For MC, you don't need to know the final answer of the questions but only the first step do to it. Paying attention to her class helps much, especially the minutes before tests. There are some hints there. Webassign would help if you do it seriously. But I admitted that it's time consuming.
She talks really fast and doesn't explain things clearly. Luckily the homework and quizzes are all online and they provide lectures so I just learn off of that. I'd probably be failing if it wasn't online. She goes over quiz material the day before the quiz. She also takes attendance randomly only when she has time. Not really a good teacher.
She has a slight accent and does tend to talk very fast, along with some nervous laughter. Overall, however, she was pretty fair with grading and her tests were not impossible. She would spend the entire class period going over examples and made sure we understood. If you study a little on the side and do all the homework, an A is attainable.
I had her both 212 and 114. She's a nice teacher, although I didnt really talked with her that much, just did my work and thats it. Everything (homework and exams) is done on the computer and if you screw up on the test you get more chances. Kinda of wished she taught a Stats class this way.
Strict. Difficult to understand her explanations, and unable to explain things clearly. Does not like questions, and rarely answers them because it throws her off her routine.
Everything for this class is done online (Aleks) All the hw, quizzes -which you'll have everyday-, and 3 tests which are spread out through the quarter and the final. She lectures for an hour, then transfer to us doing hw on aleks, then taking the quiz afterwards. This class is really easy if you pay attention to lectures, bc thats basically it.
Ison wasn't a great teacher. She never really explained the concepts of lessons, rather just gave us problems and the work to do it. She was also rude in telling students who were struggling that its because they weren't trying hard enough.
Difficult class.
I think she is a great teacher. Her exams are pretty tough; she gave too many questions in 1 hour, BUT it is doable if you study. I'm not going to lie, her class is not an easy class. She teaches fast but provides lots of examples. And lets be honest here, if you're in 1B then you need to put some time&effort into the class if you want to get an A
PLEASE!!! DO NOT TAKE HER!!!! Ison has been such a terrible teacher. She's kinda hard to understand and her lectures are so hard to keep up since she talks through the examples way to fast. She reviews for the midterm literally right before the midterm. VERY DISAPPOINTED!
I only took her for 212 and 114. Of course I'm not going to take Math 1A or 1B with her. I only like those classes cuz I like the work was done on the computer. I don't think she's a bad teacher or anything, she's pretty nice. The only rude thing that I've ever seen her do is that she abruptly ended someone's test cuz he used his own calculator.
Beware of pop quizzes.
She was a great teacher. Her notes in class explained all of the material on quizzes and exams. It was not an easy class, but if you take notes and study, and I mean like 10 hours a week then you should do well in the class God willing. I didn't realize how much this class had prepared me for calculus and I appreciate that.
Very hard teacher, exam are hard no notes. Extremely challenging course. So be prepared or you might get a D or F. The worst case would be discouraging yourself. So you need to have a strong base math. Rude also.
Very difficult class, you might wanna quit school because of this. Could screwed up your life. Do not risk your college grade if you are not extremely good at math.
She talks incredibly fast, and randomly laughs at her own jokes. She assigns way too much homework, and frequently makes mistakes in her lectures. The quizzes are tolerable, but the exams are brutal. She's not helpful when you go to her for assistance, and believes that struggling students are just lazy. Half the class dropped.
Everything HW related was online using Aleks. It was awful since this was a 212 class and I didn't understand the math prior to this class or even afterwards. I struggled for hours everyday and only just barely passed because I completed the entire pie chart. Would not recommend unless you already understand the math or can teach yourself.
Ms. Ison is the worst, has a thick accent and flies through lecture, she also rambles on top of making jokes she laughs at. She expects you to memorize everything, no cheat sheets. She assigns tons of HW thats only somewhat related to test. Quizzes are easy, test are brutal. Oh and dont be surprised when she starts quizzes 5 mins after class. :(
Probably the easier math1b professors out there since her midterms were 80% MC with a few open answers at the end, final for us was MC. She's difficult to understand, goes way too fast through lectures, and makes TONS of mistakes. This is my second time taking it (dropped the 1st) and still received a D ): Would take again bc i know her style now
Ison is a fast talker and tends to make mistakes in her lectures. She has a problem with fixating on one example for too long and then rushing through the rest of the lecture. Hw was on webassign and some of her test problems closely resembles hw problems. Easy quizzes once a week that is usually 1-2 questions long.
Took Ison during summer quarter so class was extremely compacted. Everyday there is a quiz after the material. All homework due day before the end of the quarter. Goes really fast over material, but she and her tutor will take time to explain in the computer lab. Quiz everyday after lecture. Show up to all classes and stay on top of your homework.
A good teacher. She is very organized, though many students would not agree with me:D Her note in class is very helpful for the quizzes and tests, also the HW help more to review the points she hits in class. There is no much difference in class questions and tests. Her final is easier than usual midterms since all multiple choices. Don't cheat.
During lecture she rushes and messes up a lot so its hard to follow along properly. Checks notes after lecture while also checking attendance. Everything is online using Aleks. Short 3-5 question quizzes after every lecture with notes, 3 tries each. 3 tests & Final exam 2 tries no notes. shes nice but i failed the final bc she didn't review so well
I took her for both 212 and 114: I only liked her classes because all the work was done computers; more my style. She can be rude at times. I didn't have a problem with the way she lectured, some people do because of her accent. Overall, I'm glad to get them over with.
Very helpful teacher. This class was pretty much review, but the insight I got renewed my knowledge of math. Mrs. Ison gives good feedback and is always available to help!
Her way of explaining is not that good, she tries to be organized but her notes and explanations are all over the place! She talks fast and I couldnt hear half the things she said clearly. If youre good at math youll pass but if youre looking for a prof to teach math well and wanna learn dont take her!
When you want to take her Math 1C, preparing for self-study. Her notes just for her quizzes. However, it is so useless for the exam and final.
No textbook, but you'll need to purchase a class code for ALEKS to do your homework. 3-5 question quiz every class after the first half of the class based on notes. Try not to fall too far behind in the homework. Write down the notes she writes. Clear note taking, helps if you have questions, you can use notes during every quiz but not on tests
Ms. Ison is a nice person, but I didn't like her as an instructor. Her lectures were very hard to understand, and she rushes them. I really don't like that she gives her students all of the quarter's homework, and expects us to finish them at the end of the quarter. We even have to pay for Aleks to do math online. I don't recommend this instructor
This professor is absolutely horrible! She teaches the class like we've all heard this lecture before or have some knowledge of Pre-Calc. Teaches several chapter sections crammed into 1 hour with unorganized lecture/examples then uses the last hour for quizzes and to do homework. You will find it hard to learn when you're busy keeping up w/ notes.
Its hard to like Ison as teacher. She's nice and all, she can come off as rude to some students. She doesn't really grade anything, all the homework and exams are done through an Online Program.
Fantastic teacher. I have always been a bad math student but her class is very straight forward. If you do the homework before class and use the class period to study for the quizes you will do well
her lecture is not clear. she talks too fast and you can't understand of her lecture. Don't take her class for any reason
Well last quarter I took her math 114 and it was pretty easy but this time she was tough on me so I think I'm not going to pass this class.
Arguably one of the worst professors at De Anza. Nice woman but completely fails in every aspect of teaching. Lectures and teaches at HER speed, not the students'. Over complicates simple concepts, forcing you to teach yourself. Thick accent, speaks very fast, makes mathematical errors constantly. No consistency on HW and Exam problems. ***Avoid***
Easy choice at De Anza for a Math prof. Tests were entirely multiple choice (except a 10 point easy FRQ) and the final was MC too. There were quizzes that were just hw problems. We were allowed to drop our lowest 2 quizzes and the lowest midterm. Recommend if you want an easy A, but she's nothing special.
Professor Ison is very helpful. She might sound rushed during lecture but she stops when you ask questions and tries to explain. She also spends lab time helping if you ask for help. She uses online homework which I found very helpful and makes it easy to go on your own pace. I would take her again!
This professor is not the best. She tends to be all over the place and tends to overcomplicate the concepts. It doesn't help that she speaks with an accent and doesn't communicate the lesson as effectively as she could. There's a good amount of homework, 3 tests and a final. Miss any quiz and she won't let you retake it as they are online. AVOID!!!
Seriously the worst professor ever. So hard and not at all helpful. Take a different professor if you can. You self learn everything
Being a nice person doesnt make her a good instructor. Since shes a faster talker and tends to rush during her lectures, its hard to catch up with her pace while understanding materials. Notes arent really helpful for neither quizzes nor tests, so be prepared to go over the materials on your own. If youre not so good at math, JUST AVOID HER!
This teacher is rude, unorganized and conducts the class at her own pace. Her hw are online and tests+final are mc qs. She kept telling the class that there might be extra credits, but she did not curve or give out any EC at the end!??!?! Also NO CALCULATORS allowed. Please for the love of god, don't risk your gpa for this teacher/class.
Her lectures were super confusing, she would constantly contradict herself and would laugh at herself frequently which was quite distracting. She mainly just copied the examples from the textbook. The quizzes were extremely easy, open book and were often times copies of HW questions. Exams were multiple choice.
This teacher is rude, unorganized and conducts the class at her own pace. Her HW is online(LOTS OF HW) and tests+final are tricky. You need to remember all the formulas cause she is not allowed to bring a note. Also, NO CALCULATORS allowed. Only ONE hour to take the exam. Please for the love of god, don't risk your GPA for this teacher/class.
She has a tendency to discourage students by frequently mentioning how difficult a concept is rather than explaining it. When she does her lectures and when demonstrates the work on the board she does a poor job of explaining what she's doing. Overall, she does a terrible job of teaching the concepts and never seems to understand students questions
Recommend! I enjoyed her lectures and she obviously cares. DO THE WORK. Work on each topic a little before lectures so you know what she's talking about already. ( An effective technique for any class) She writes clear notes to go along with her lecturing. She's a great professor, not a magician. Thinking and work outside of class are vital.
Dont recommend. Cant understand what is she talking about. Study onlion by myself, always, for every single class. Not friendly at all. Tests are super hard. Never allow calculator.
This professor assigns a butt load of homework on webassign and I was kind of overwhelmed by the amount during the first week. Eventually, I figured out that I only need to do a few problems until I get the concept and would skip the rest. The tests were fairly easy and her final was basically a replica of the final review pdf that she gives us.
I never understood a word she said but the class was sooo easy. If you don't understand anything just do the hw and you'll get it. The tests are basically the review she gives and the quizzes are open note/book/discussion. Literally everything is extra credit if you do it but there is a lot of hw. I did almost none of the work and still got a B LOL
This Teacher is SUCK. lot of Homework and she think she has a sense of humor. but it's not. Lectures Boring. I won't take her again in my life.
Dont take her class. Always totally, self learning, u will be crazy when she teaches lectures. She just teaches herself. She didnt care about what you learn. My major is math, but I didnt know her lecture. Make a lot of mistakes on the lecture, change process every time. Please dont take her classes you will thanks me. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS EVER
Her 212 and 114 are okish to take just to get those out of the way. Its all online work and the program is cheap. NO TEXTBOOK! Ison is only rude if your slacking off in class and especially if you use a calculator for the tests she seriously gives you a zero, poor guy he dropped ASAP.
My Bro recommended I take her 114 class just to get it over with. Its a self-learning class, Ison just lectures the first hr. and rest is in the computer lab either doing work or an exam. She's helpful when asking questions or her TA. She's not all bad but not the best Teacher.
Do all the homework and quizzes and she'll give a decent amount of extra credit. I got 2 C+'s and a B on her midterms (3 of them) and still got an A in the class, probably because I did really well on the final (she doesn't post grades online so idk what I got). The midterms aren't super difficult, I just made a lot of silly mistakes.
It was an Okish run. Work was online and better than most 212 classes. She doesn't grade anything, not a good lecturer, her TA was helpful. You get multiple attempts at the test and 2 on the Final. Snooty Business Guy.
I can say she is not the best teacher if you want to learn something. However, her class over all is easy. She has heavy homework assignment and quiz. The quiz almost every class instead of midterm day. Her homework assignment due day all at the last week of the quarter. However, if you doing bad at the midterms, not worry. The final you'll be okay
Teaches super fast in lectures. basically a self study class. Half of the class does not even know what is going on as she teaches like 3 topics in an hour. Each lesson theres like homework on web assign and each topic theres like 20 questions so be prepared to do a lot of homework. Tests are average. it is only easy because it is MCQ.
Basically if you're looking for a TEACH-er, she's not the one. She cannot articulate her knowledge properly, half the class cannot keep up with her speed. 3 topics an hour. If you take this class alongside other heavy subjects, good luck
HORRIBLE teacher. She teaches really fast and it is hard to comprehend her! Nice lady but she can't teach AT ALL. Avoid her because you will be teaching yourself and calc 2 is HARD. Also, there is a quiz each class so attendance is pretty much mandatory. 3 midterms and LOTS of HW and you barely learn much from her teaching!
Her lectures are pretty useless. You're better off reading the textbook in the back of the class during the lecture times. She is a nice person and doesn't ever put the class on the spot for participation, which is nice. The tests and quizzes are very easy. Tests are based on webassign homework, and you can collaborate on quizzes
teaches insanely fast almost impossible to keep up and bottemless homework. any other teacher would be better than this one.
literally the worst professor ever. tests are easy but there is absolutely no learning or teaching because she is such a terrible professor. she does not know how to teach and does not know what she is talking about. it sounds like shes teaching herself while she lectures
Many people don't like this professor because she is not very good at teaching, but if you can study on your own with youtube you can get a good grade. Homework is on webassign and the quizzes are also online and very easy. Exams are multiple choice and super easy. Not a good teacher but an easy class.
She's not as bad as ratings say. Not the best professor ever, but copy down her notes and you'll be fine. Lots of hw, but they help you understand betterrefer to the notes while doing them and use WebAssign to show the solution when you are lost. Exams are easy. MCQ, and only the set-up is needed (no need to calculate the final answer).
she is terrible , don't tack this class with her.
Lectures are pretty rushed because she uses half the time for workshop and inclass quizzes. A bit hard to understand but she is always willing to help if you ask questions. Quizzes were basically done for completion and classmates can help each other. Insane amount of hw but it is very helpful for midterms. Midterms follow the structure of HW.
Never take her! What kind of professor would take 43 questions(all need to calculate) for a 90 minutes exam!!! Tried very hard but only got a 70/100
AVOID!!!!!! Had my first 1C exam today. 48 questions in 1 hr 30 minutes. Almost impossible to do good. No lectures nothing. I warned you now. Run don't look back
A good teacher is defined as a person who teaches material to students and is not insane when it comes to exams. Well shes none of that. If your aiming for an A look elsewhere. If your fine with a C or a B then this class is doable.
Class average was 67/80 for our first exam. Thats 83%. 1C prob won't get easier than that. Exams are webassign 43 questions in 1 hr 30. Its time crunch but its webassign so its doable. she doesn't teach at all but shes not hard so its a tradeoff.
Edit: had the 2nd midterm on webassign and that was hard as balls. STAY AWAY
Really tough teacher. Expects you to finish the 40+ questions exam in 1 hour and 30 minutes, WHICH IS IMPOSSIBLE, especially it is a Calculus II class.
Worst teacher I've ever had
She doesn't lecturejust gives powerpoints and expects us to read them (and this is a calculus class, so it's pretty hard). I ended up watching YouTube videos and learned more from them. The exams aren't too hard (they're very similar to hw), but the time is very limited. Many people couldn't finish. She wasn't this bad on campus, but online sucks.
Out of all the math I took in my life I can officially say math 1C was by far the easiest. Her exams are literally the hw just worded differently so if you do the hw ur gonna ace the exams. Her midterms were time crunch but its doable cause its ripped from the hw. Easy A, terrible teacher
1C online edition with Ison. She has 0 lectures and she doesnt teach at all during the quarter so if ur coming in expecting to be taught dont bother taking her. If your just looking to get an easy A then go ahead but you will not be prepared for 1D taking her. Exams are hw with different numbers
She doesn't care to teach and you're on your own. She expects the students to learn a Calculus course by looking at powerpoint slides. Never had a single lecture for the whole quarter and gave lengthy exams that were impossible to finish. Good luck if you plan to take her class, I don't even know why the college doesn't monitor such scenarios.
She did not teach at all lol. Lots of homework, tests have a short time limit, so it was difficult to finish every problem on time. All she did was post old youtube videos from 1839 that was filmed on a potato as the lecture. Homework and tests are on webassign. If you want a free A then she is the one, but if you want to learn, don't take her.
she does not teach at all. it was fine for me but the problem amount of the exam is ridiculous. The exam is on WebAssign. For exam1, 40+ question in 1h30min. For exam2, 37 questions. it is impossible to finish all questions. each problem takes a long time to solve. She gives us ONE extra credit but it's worth only 2 points. it's almost nothing!
Assigns a lot of homework problems through WebAssign. Tests are very hard because you are only given 1 hour to do over 20 problems that take longer to set up compared to Math 1A. Problems such as work, area, etc.
I take her MATH 1A class right now and she 1. Does not teach - gives you a basic ppt and 5 minute videos from the 1900's (no lectures by herself, she answer questions in Canvas discussion but I'd rather google the question up since both responses are similar) 2. Whole ton of HW - almost 20-30 questions everyday + quizzes 3. Test - 90 min for 40 q
If you want an easy A, take this professor. If you actually want to learn something, then don't. I tried using the powerpoints at first, but they honestly came to no help. If you are going to take Math 1B as well, then don't take this class because you will struggle with not having a proper foundation.
I guess she's ok if you want an A, but if you want to actually learn something, CHOOSE SOMEONE ELSE! There is way too much homework, and they take way too long to do. Her requirement is literally to spend 25-50 hours EVERY WEEK, which is crazy! If you know calculus ahead of time, then it will be easier for you. If you don't, you will struggle.
The online curriculum in the mathematics department at De Anza is very loose, as the teacher you receive really doesn't affect your performance. Ison didn't teach, it was mostly textbook work, but she was still available to answer questions for everyone. Not the best teacher, but definitely not the worst. Just try your best and you will do well.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS, online class is awful. Only powerpoints as lecture material, she does not record lectures for all chapters, only very few, and the lectures are not clear. Very hard to understand, learned all of the material on youtube by myself. Did not drop because only she matched my timezone and was still available.
Trust me! Do not take her!! Unless your calculus basis is strong. There are so many hw per week, and the quiz as well. Most importantly, she will not let you do it again. she is not flexible. midterm and final have so many questions but just 90 and 120 minutes. What's worse, only 2 try. she didn't reply any your question. just ask you to find urse
If you take this class, you will spend A LOT OF time to do HW per week. The midterms and final are especially difficult to complete on time and the lockdown browser will stop you from finding your prepared resources on the computer. The instructor views all students as geniuses but actually, we are not.
Def NOT an easy A, but the exam is based on exam review. The class assigns ''1100'' questions on homework that all due at the quarter ends. Exam review assigns 100 questions on each midterm. The exam average has 35 questions and only have 90 mins to complete the exam. Def not enough. If there is a better choice, avoid this class. Btw, SELF-LEARNING
This class is honestly a free A, but if you want to learn the material I recommend you take someone else. Everything is on webassign, and it's mostly self-studying. There's a lot of homework every week, and the midterm and final have little time to be completed, so that's a big flaw. If you're fine with self-studying and want an A, she is good.
Only take this class if you can self-study and manage your own pace. There are no lectures, and all homework/tests are on WebAssign. All homework is due at the end of the quarter, and the only thing due each week are two mini quizzes. Exams are based off of homework and review questions. No curve, but you can get some extra credit from homework.
Everything is on WebAssign, 5 tries for HW and reviews, 3 for Quizzes, 2 for midterms and finals. An A isn't difficult since HW and reviews are easy points, completing all HW gives you a bit of EC too. She posted cengage PPTs for lectures so I just watched Professor Leonard on YT.
Oh god, the mountains of WebAssign homework :( When it says 5 units is 25h of work per week, get ready to do just that. Each week, 2x homework, 20-50 problems each. And the exams - never enough time to even work on all problems!! Also watch out - the syllabus said 675 WA points total but it was 700 - I almost miscalculated that way. Quiz easy pts
Most amount of Homework you will ever have to do until now. Be ready
Took her for Fall 2020. She's alright, but doesn't have designated office hours, you have to email her or post questions in the discussion board. Everything is on Cengage. The homework isn't due until the end of the quarter but don't wait that long to do it. There are 2 quizzes every week and the midterms and exams are just like the homework.
Excellent teacher, accessible class and it was easy to follow. well structured class, and she is very fair in what she wants. Uses lockdown browser but it shouldn't matter if you study.
This professor is absolutely insane, first day gives you 90 questions for homework and is extremely rude to students. Her quizzes and tests are designed for failure and dont even work properly for students to use or access. Do not take this professor please
Homegirl makes her tests super hard but cannot explain anything well in lectures.
She gives out a dumb amount of HW. Very little time to complete exams. For one of the exams, it was 30 problems and we were only given 60 minutes. Of course that may not sound like a difficult thing to do, but this is Calc II. It takes time to do problems and it's ridiculous to think we can finish each problem in under 2 minutes.
Definitely need minimum 50 hours a week for this one class, she answers questions through webassign but takes two days to reply, so not the most accessible help out there. Guarenteed you will need chegg to study
Professor was horrible at teaching. If you are good at the course take her if you want a free grade but if you want to learn something or are not so good at math then dont take it. She is not understanding of personal problems/ situations and does not give extension for anything. Lazy marker too
It's just webAssign and lectures. I never attended her lectures and got a A+. If you can learn by webAssign only, take this class, it's amazing. And write down the homework in a notebook or somthin because the tests are ripped straight from the hw (or minor variation in numbers). lots of homework but its webassign lol ez af. not sure y so low rated
Webassign homework, and lots of it, all hw sections due before final, you have a whole quarter to work on it, but do not sleep on it. She's very sweet and nice, but lectures are not in depth and require self-studying. She's an awesome teacher if you have a strong math background, for others will require additional practice and time.
One of the WORST math teachers I've ever had -Will NOT upload written notes for class -Will NOT teach concepts, only hw review -Will NOT record majority of her lectures, which are just hw question reviews anyways. -Her lecture 'notes' are just screenshots from the book put into ppt -She told students that she will NOT install anything to take notes
Super easy to get an A+, just finish all the WebAssign homework and copy it to the exam then you can easily get an a or above. Also, there was no canvas quiz so every question can check the answer online. Hugely recommend taking the class.
I took this class asynchronously and it was really easy for me. All work was webassign even the quizzes and exams. All with multiple tries and plenty of time. Easily accessible during office hours, explained well and calmly. 10/10 recommended.
I've had a horrible experience with the amount of assignment she's assigned. She also gives us an hour to do an exam that takes WAY more than an hour. I've tried rushing through all the exams, but I still couldn't make it through with the time given.
So much hw in this class... HW is due at the end of the quarter, but do not sleep on it! Complete it as soon as you can. She also doesn't give enough time for exams. It's insane with how much you need to rush to try to finish. Unless you're super good at math, I don't see how you can finish all the problems in the given time
Great professor in De Anza.
Caring student status, providing sufficient times in office hours. Overall, good teacher.
Dont be fooled this professor is purely self studying. Her exams are not even doable. Uses exclusively webassign. Completely botched my grade up. DO NOT TAKE HER.
Too much homework and she expects us to finish more than 15 integral problems in under an hour for midterms
Insufficient time for tests. Questions are hard, too much homework and she expects us to finish the exam in an hour for questions that requires a lot of work.
TDLR: Nice teacher, lots of WebAssign HW, Exams' time duration is too short I gave a 2 & 4 b/c tbh the homework and quizzes are very doable since it's WebAssign but exams aren't. HW due @ end of quarter (5 tries for each question); 2 quizzes/week (3 tries each question; 30 min/3-5 questions). Exams (1 hr/~20 questions). I used to love math til now
Nice teacher overall, her lectures go over some of the homework problems and has in class time designated for homework help. Her tests are open note and similar to homework problems. Barely any time for tests though, 20+ problems in a span of a little over an hour and homework ranges from 20-90 problems per assignment.
This class was an easy A if you take notes/do all the problems in a notebook. Quiz & exam problems are taken directly from hw. Lectures go over the hw questions and the quiz q's (before you take it) & are recorded. All the quizzes and exams are open-note but the notes have to be on paper. She's nice and will answer questions in class.
Don't know why there's so many bad ratings. Her class is super easy if you take notes/do HW problems on paper. Quizzes and exams are open-note, problems are taken from HW and she goes over them in her lectures. She's really nice and will answer questions in class. Took her for MATH 1B & 1C, her classes are the easiest math classes I've ever taken
This is my only option for only Math 1C so I took it. Not too bad just the amount of homework is too much for me...
The entire thing is on Webassign. HW is time consuming, tests are EXTREMELY short on time. To succeed you must grind on HW. Uses lock browser thing, but it doesn't bother me. I like her slight accent, def not hard to understand. I have had worse professors.
I took her TBA class and did a lot of hw and self-study. She will release a lot of review before exams and final. Take good advantage of the webassign and textbooks.
All hw, midterms, and final are on webassign. Insane amt of HW but worth 35% of your grade. Lectures are a waste of time bc she always makes mistakes and students have to correct her. Always talks too fast and laughs while she makes mistakes so its difficult to follow lecture. Exams are about 3 mins per question (1hr for 20 questions)
No time for to finish exams
OMG this teacher! I can understand her quick speaking voice. WebAssign, and HW, pay attention! Tests are short but time is limited!
Personality fine, wants to do well. Lectures OK, but messy and disorganized. Powerpoints (not made by her) linked in Canvas are better for learning the lesson. HW extremely time-consuming, 20-30+ questions per class. Quiz at end of every class, 3-5 questions in 30 minutes, fine. Tests are EXTREMELY rushed, ~25 questions in 1 hour. All on WebAssign.
Tests, quizzes, and HW on Webassign. Tests "proctored" with lockdown browser. Attendance required. Quizzes every class were easy if you paid attention in lecture. Exams were not too bad if you did the homework and exam review, but simple mistakes will drop your grade. Only 2 submissions per question on exams (free response). Not bad for self-study.
good teacher, but there not enough time for quiz and test.
Found her incredibly easy. She drops 2 quizzes so you have 2 chances to mess up. In addition to that I know a lot of people are complaining about the exams however she gives exam reviews which contain 90% of the test questions in them. Only "bad" part would be the incredible amount of homework but honestly its doable and is worth 35% so...
she doesn't know how to teach, the lectures were boring and confusing and she makes a lot of mistakes. Quiz after every class but she drops 2 of your lowest scores. Tests are very short on time. Lots of homework but worth 33% of your grade. she gives a lot of review before the test and the questions in the test are similar to the review. can get A
Homeworks are due by midnight of the final exam day (20-30 prob per lecture, 5 trials per prob.) Quizzes are due by the end of each lecture (3-5 prob in 30 min, 3 trials per prob.) 3 Exams (20-24 prob in 1 hr) and Final (40-50 prob in 2 hr), 2 trials per prob, open notes (paper only) Drop 3 lowest quiz scores, give a bit of EC after the final.
lectures are fine but sometimes hard to apply to hw. LOTS of hw ~40-50 questions per hw and 2-3 per week. 3 exams (first was on the 3RD WEEK) BUT you are allowed to use all handwritten notes. exams are copy+pasted from homework questions and reviews (which rnt mandatory) and on webassign with 2 tries per problem. grueling but could've been worse
No Calculators in Exams. That's all you need to know.
She only relies on Webassign for every single assignment, which has up to 30-40 questions per assignment. Unrealistic time limits on her tests, do not take her.
Took asynchronous w/ online lecture. Lectures were very confusing and hard to understand. Assigns A LOT of homework which is 35% of your grade. Barely any time for tests. Midterms had (~20 question in an hour) and final exam had (46 q's in 2 hours). She assigns review Q's for test, ungraded. Overall, so much work, but doable if you take her online.
Math31 >Online class, self taught class w/ class meetings >Quiz after meetings, meetings go over quiz >Lots of homework, but will help with grade >Exams can be tricky >Final was easy Teaching style seemed rushed, seemed irritated at questions, made mistakes Take it if you are independent, if you need lots of direction, avoid this class
Incredibly difficult course. It is basically impossible to pass this course with the grade you want. Even the teacher couldn't do her own problems within 2 minutes, which is how much time you get per question on the exam. However, she is a VERY good teacher when you go to office hours. She explains things much better 1-on-1. Take at your own risk.
To clarify I am speaking only for the summer asynch course. For a summer course, you expect twice the work, however this teacher was easily assigning more than quadruple the standard. Terrible, impossible-to-follow lectures. Cant seem to express a thought without backing up a few steps. Daily homework assignments were obscenely long (38+ questions)
Take her class and get endless homework and quizzes:)
exam is very essay. But homework is too much
She is really chill, I dont know why she has low ratings but her tests were very similar to her reviews, and she gave us answers before taking the quiz. The only thing I would complain about is that she assigns way too much homework.
has a quiz after every single class about the content "studied" in that class so cant miss any lecture. Gives insane amount of HW. has a heavy accent, SUPER boring lectures that don't teach you ANYTHING but you HAVE to be in class for the quizes so you waste 4 hours in her lectures and then self study anyways. she proctors exams, closed book.
Exam is exactly like review except different numbers. She assigns review the weekend before the exam (Spend those 3 days studying the review every single question it is 70 questions long.) Open notes exams so just do the problems. This class is a lot of tedious work but easy.
Honestly she's easy if you have the time to do all her homework. She's rude and not accommodating whatsoever, offers like 5 points of EC at most lol. Her test time limits are unreasonable; 2 hours for 47 questions with multiple parts? Doesn't ever listen to her students, don't bother with this professor unless you really have to.
Prof. Ison's lectures are awful. They don't prepare you for the tests and are less intuitive than the book. She's one of those "this should all be self evident" teachers. Barely any time on tests. A ton of homework. This was the least gratifying A I've ever received. Do not take her. If you must, prepare to teach yourself.
The homework load is very heavy. One week, there were 60 questions for homework with 2 quizzes. Self-study is advised with enough time allocated for doing the homework which is 30% of the grade.
Professor Ison's lectures are pretty medicore and rushed if I'm honest. She assigns a lot of homework if you can't spend at least 12 hours a week on this course you will fail. Her tests are open note so make sure to do the review which is ~ identical. Take her if you have time for the homework also show up to every class. Her grading is very fair.
This professor speaks a million miles an hour, spends half the time blabbering about minor procedural things in the class, and her lectures are not very helpful at all.
genuinely terrible. dont take this class. i promise you, wait until next quarter. its okay.
Okay, so I'm only writing this because of how low Professor Son's reviews are. Personally, I took her class online, and it was honestly so easy. If you're considering this professor, I 100% recommend taking her online. However, if you're taking her in person… good luck! (I've heard nothing good about her in-person classes, lol.)
It is a free class, as all of the tests are open note and 70% of it is just memorizing formulas. The lectures... just do your homework during them. There is a lot of HW if you decide not to put it through AI (wink wink). Attendance is req. because there is a quiz each class but the 3 lowest grades are dropped so you can basically skip 3 sessions.
HOMEWORK HEAVY. HW is one of the highest grading categories. Tests are straightforward, based off study guide. 2 attempts per question and online, open notes (recommend a good calculator e.g. ti cx nspire) There is a whole quarter's worth of HW due at the end of the quarter. She's very kind and funny, and lectures were never a bore.
