Dr. Black is amazing. Material can be kind of tedious, but it got a lot better and she is very knowledgable and enthusiastic about it. Is always willing to explain and answer questions if needed. Often instead of a lecture, it was a class discussion. She was fun and funny, and I learned a lot. Would definitely reccommend!!! :)

Tests are hard, lectures are unbearably boring, Prof. Black--not friendly, and sometimes rude.
Dr. Black was possibly one of the WORST professors I have ever had. Her lectures were boring and uninspiring. She was extremely rude and seemed to have no interest in her students at all. Tests were mainly of material that was never even mentioned in class. She also says "if you will" way too much. Its annoying.
I am sure she is the worst of all CCCCD has, I will never recommand this professor to any one. you besically go to her class come with "zero" knowlge. I think she might be in some kind of class, and she makes you do her assignment for her. WORST PROFFESSOR!!!!! Do not take if you want to learn the American government

she's enthusiastic about government but not an easy class especially the pop quizzes!!! i don't think she really cares to get to know her students or even their names...she never takes attendance..so she'll never call your name unless she's handing back quizzes
She's pretty strict but not mean.Very passionate about government and has great lectures. HAS POP QUIZZES though so DON'T miss and take good notes! If you missed class she is willing to sit down with you and go over her lecture with you, but don't expect much help by email. Her exams are hard! Be prepared to work your ass off on her term paper too.
Enthusiastic and passionate about the subject. See's herself as "higher" then everyone else though, she will always, mention how uneduacted everyone is and how smart she is. Very concieded and proud of her achievement and doesnt care to flaunt it.If you absolutely love goverment take the class,but if u are just getting it for the credit DONOT take
People claiming she's the "worst prof ever" are those who aren't even trying and don't show. If you're serious about taking the class, Prof Black is great. She makes it easy to understand and, as long as you're respectful she's actually very nice. She's just kind of strict. Class was kinda boring sometimes, but what do you expect from gov?
Dr. Black scared me at first,, but was a good professor overall. If you're looking for a really easy class, this isn't the one for you. Her lectures are very thorough, and you can tell she loves Government. Her tests are hard, but you get an 'A' on the term paper if you try. I learned alot in her class, but it took work! No Extra Credit either.

She is pretty strict when it comes down to the class and will keep you till the very end. Mandatory attendance as well. Her 2 tests usually had about 125 questions on it with a paper at the end of the course. Thinks she is better than everyone. Her class is not bad though, just take notes and study over the notes. Also she gives out reviews.
I found her class to be pretty simple, as long as you pay attention and take notes, do well on the tests and don't miss the quizzes you'll be fine. The research paper was long but plenty of time is given to complete it without to much of a fuss. I doubt you'll find another professor with as much enthusiasm for their subject as Dr. Black.
Alright i agreed with the prior comments truly passionate about her subject she is a brilliant teacher she knows her stuff...again easy A not for you she is def.... a challenge BUT THATS COLLEGE i enjoyed her class her enthusiasm kept me laughing through the whole semester
She is an amazing teacher for sure! She is truly passionate about goverment...beautiful(she says that all the time). For the fist time in my life I truly enjoyed goverment. When she gets passionate teaching you can't help but get passionate about it too. She almost made me want to change my major. This is not a blow off class for sure. But worth it

I came into this class hating government. Now, with an elementary understanding of it, i find it quite fascinating. This class is hard but rewarding. If you do not test well, dislike taking notes all class everyday, or hate reading do not take this class.
She is passionate about Government and truly enjoys teaching it. She is not an easy professor though. This class can be tough as nails if you can't keep up. There is reading involved but the major reading starts for the third test. The hardest part is the term paper which she is very unforgiving on. I would NOT take her again.
She is a truly passionate teacher! Those who complain about her didn't put enough effort in the class. This is not a blowoff class! But not extremely hard as well. Pay attention from lectures and some from the book. A 5 page policy paper due near the end of the semester. I learned alot from Professor Black!!!
Dr. Black definitely loves what she teaches. Lectures are clear. Very helpful and understanding. Grading is always fair. On each test you have an opportunity to get extra credit points, which is helpful. Overall a great teacher.

Amazing teacher and mentor. All those complaining about the term papers are procrastinators. She gives everybody 3 months to do research. She is passionate, understand, but understand that this is college and will not hold your hand but will guide you! She is an amazing teacher!
Millie Black PhD knows the material and is very passionate about getting others to understand and get involved in government and politics. She even registers students to vote. She is tough as nails and will not cut you any slack though. The paper is mandatory and she is tough on it. Tests are hard if you don't read the book. It's true, no laptops.

Dr. Black is an amazing teacher. Whenever I needed help, she'll let you come to her office hours and help you out. One thing you have to do is read the book and read the notes carefully. She also assigns a term paper which is very easy. If you do everything she says, then you'll pass with an "A"
I took Prof. Black for Government 2302. She was amazing! She rights all of her notes on the board and there is hardly homework. She makes you right one essay, make sure that you read the directions very carefully! Other than that, she is one of the best prof. cccc can offer. She keeps recent topics related to what she is teaching in class. Awesome!

This professor is not an easy A. If you want to learn the material take this class. She requires you to read the book and take extensive notes. She's strict, and takes her job seriously. I liked the professor, but wouldn't recommend taking her if you aren't going to do the reading or if you have a problem with turning assignments in on time.
dr. black is an awesome teacher. she is not the easiest teacher for her subject, but she keeps you interested in her lectures. she tries to keep you involved in her lectures as much as possible, and she relates a lot of her topic & angles to the common student. she is a wonderful teacher, and she knows what she is talking about!
Professor Black is one of my all time favorite teachers! She has genuine interest in her students. She is really enthusiastic about what she teaches and gets the students excited as well. She explains things very, very well and is always available for help on the side. She requires alot commitment to learning and isn't a teacher for slackers. A+!

Wow, every now and again you will run into someone who's found their true calling in teaching and educating others. Being a an EDUC student myself it was a delight getting to see one of the best do their thing. The class itself is not difficult as long as you maintain a good attendance in class and take good notes.
She made several errors in the exams and quizzes, for instance wrong date for a constitutional amendment. When I brought these to her attention she was defensive. I still got a high A but Black is socially a little weak in the EQ department.
Dr. Black is an amazing professor. You can really tell she knows what she's talking about and loves the subject she teaches! I wouldn't exactly say her class is easy, but as long as you try you should pass. There were only three tests including the final and a few quizzes here and there and one paper. No homework, loved her! HIGHLY recommend!
Took this class online. Every quiz had several questions with the wrong answers. Her grading for the term paper assignment is ridiculous. She refuses to respond to questions on her grading or to do anything about the wrong answers on quizzes. Don't take her if your GPA matters to you.
You feel like it's an easy class until you take her examinations. They are HARD! She has the ability to take something so simple to understand and make a hard question out of it. I would not recommend her. She assigns summations, which students do have a lot of time to complete the assignment, but it's HARD.
You can tell she is very passionate about what she teaches, which is a good thing. She explains things very clearly. There is one paper that you have the whole semester to write, a few quizzes and take home quizzes (that are graded easily), and long tests so you have a chance in making a good grade. I enjoyed her class and her personality.
Wonderful professor!! If you can take really good notes and review them as well as reading the chapters then you should ace the tests! the exams are not that bad like people say. If you study your butt of you should do great! i took her for Gov. 1 and Gov 2 I recommend her!!! :)
Dr. Black's wisdom on the subject of govt., & history for that matter, blows me away. She is witty, respectable, and should teach other professors how to teach! I am a strong Conservative and worried about the college prof. myth, but she teaches fact without bias! Don't deprive yourself the chance to learn from her. Govt. is part of being American!
professor black is EXTREMELY passionate about government. if you're really interested in government or politics, take her class. if you're an average student, not looking for an intense and complicated knowledge of government, i wouldn't recommend her. she is so passionate that she sometimes goes way too far in depth about things. very hard class.

Took her for 2301 also. I love her, it's not an easy class, but she makes it fun. the essay is not easy but interesting(I have not gotten my grade back, but I think I did ok). Definitely take her, but be ready to come to class and stay on top of the reading.

Dr. Black's govt 2301 was not only the best course I took at Collin in my first semester there, but one of the best classes I've ever taken period. If you take detailed notes, pay attention, and STUDY for your tests you should have a great year. Her personality and overall enthusiasm made it a delight to walk into her classroom.
online class with Dr. Black is nightmarish, the structure of the grades makes it difficult to get an A. 25%:final 25%:midterm 25%paper 25%:quizzes. You better get at least 3 hundreds to get 75% (C) and mostly hundreds on your quizzes to get a A-B. She grades your paper with no feedback. No seconds chances, no extra credit, no extensions. Avoid!
Took online and was frustrated and disappointed. Notes are nonexistent. They are only the objectives restated from the book. Test questions are written so as to be confusing. I'm an A student and work very hard but this class/grading system was not structured to encourage success.
DON'T DO IT! took 4 week online version. Get ready for questions with no answers. I got an A and read all 12 chapters 3 or 4 times. Questions ambiguous, tight margins, UFO style explanations for weird questions. Paper sucks; no notes. Exam average was 70. Old and confused. JUST DON'T DO IT!!!!!!!!!!
professir Black takes government very seriously and she's really enthusiastic about what she has to teach. her tests are hard and there's usually more than 100 questions. you also have to do a term paper which counts as %25 of the grade. if you love govt take her. avoid if you have no interest what so ever.

TESTS are some of the hardest I have ever had to take. They are 100 questions long and require critical thinking. Everything will be on the test not just major points. Some questions are also pulled from book so be prepared to read!! On a positive she gives some of the best lectures I have ever sat through and keeps your attention.
About 100 q's on each test. Cumulative final. No study guides. Lectures with powerpoints. Very upbeat and enthusiastic professor. One paper with strict guidelines. Need textbook, don't need physical copy. Tough class for me. Need to remember dates for tests. 1 extra credit opportunity per test and for the paper. Bonus questions on tests.
She ruined my college experience! First day of class she told everyone not to ask her for help and basically the entire class failed. Her test are long about over a 100 questions and difficult! I wouldn't recommend taking her! Horrible professor! Doesn't help at all! She could care less if you learned or not she will teach regardless!
let me start by saying unless ur albert einstein dont take her class. I dont understand why some professors make test soo hard like they want you to fail. her tests made me dizzy i literally couldnt think straight they were so hard for a gov class. She is a great professor - very upbeat. It is refreshing to see one have a passion for what they do. You need the textbook. Her tests use some of the example problems. Cumulative final. One term paper with easy to follow guidelines. Offers extra credit for every assignment. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF IT. It was the difference of an A and a B.

What an amazing Professor. Gov is not my subject at all but she makes you want to show up to her class with those very interesting lectures! Those who whine about this professor are obviously looking to pass with no work. We had 3 exams and one term paper at the end. Study your notes, show up to class and pass. I would def take her again!
Dr. Black is awesome. Took her a few years ago and loved her Government class. She gets you excited to learn about what she's teaching. We had some big tests and a paper at the end, but as long as you study and go to class it's definitely worth taking her over any other teacher.
Dr. Black is a GREAT professor. She made me interested in government. She always made sure what she was teaching wasn't going over our heads; it mattered to her that we left class understanding the workings of government. She is passionate and takes the time to make the class relevant, interesting and fun. I would take any class she teaches.
My favorite professor! She is so engaging and funny, you'll want to show up. She will teach everything in the book in class, so reading is not really necessary, but you have to show up if you want to understand what's going on. A couple easy quizzes, 3 tests (can bring a cheat sheet), and an easy term paper. 10/10 would recommend!!!
I took this professors class online. It was very easy to follow, all her instructions were very clear. You have a midterm and final and quizzes every week and one essay. If you put in effort, you will pass. I would 100% take her class again or take any class that she taught.

Show up to every class for information! She lets you use a notecard for each test because there's literally 80-100 questions lol. She is very organized and emphasizes on things that she will test you over. Quizzes every other week. She's very engaging in class and does not make it boring at all. She clearly loves what she does.
Easiest online class I have taken. 20 question quiz after each chapter and a discussion question of 75 words in your own words. one project that is interesting to complete. 20 min to complete the quiz, quizlet questions. Do the work and you will get a easy A

Professor black herself is really smart and nice. But not once this entire semester did I look at a textbook, PowerPoint, notes or read anything and still got a A. This class is so easy, its great to take while taking a hard class bc of how much a blow off class it is. The topics were actually interesting but you dont have to work for it at all.

I took this class awhile back, and if you are taking this class for the credit CHOOSE ANOTHER PROFESSOR! Unless you have a strong background in government or you have a passion for it, she will not help you. The book used in her class is extremely biased and bashes certain groups of people. Tests are broad & vague, no help given, & 100+ questions.

Dr. Black will talk about one slide for the entire class. She wastes so much lecture time talking about random stuff nobody cares about. I loose interest very fast, would not recommend taking if you like to take your class notes, learn and leave.
This professor talks about things that have nothing to do with the class, quizzes, or tests for most of the class, then only gets to talking about the presentation for the last 15 minutes. I kid you not, my last class with her, we were still on the objective slide 45 minutes into lecture. She doesn't teach what she tests or quizzes. Hate this class
Dr. Black is an incredible professor. She is extremely knowledgeable on the subject (she wrote the Texas Government textbook) and is extremely passionate about what she teaches. She takes an uninteresting subject and makes it interesting. Study, study, study for the exams (only two and they are heavily weighted). Absolutely would take again!
I read the book almost in full to pass all the quizzes and midterm, and then a second time while studying for the exam out of pure fear. It isn't that she's not knowledgeable; it's just that her lectures never matched the quizzes or exams. So, passing requires a lot of note-taking and understanding of the concepts.
NO, just no. DO NOT TAKE HER. Her quizzes were NOT hard. Discussions were in depth and hard. Test is annoyingly tricky sometimes. NO EXTRA CREDIT. NO MAKE UP WORK. NO EXCUSES. Due dates are different from every other course.. so don't forget it's due 8pm... NOT 11:59 like everyone else. Just no grace or compassion.. she did NOT want me to succeed.

(pt. 1) Dr. Black means well, but her consistent belittling and sarcastic tangents make her class one of discomfort and awkwardness. Be prepared to be cold-called and even embarrassed if you do not answer correctly. Her assignments are not necessarily difficult, but the operation of her classroom leaves much to be desired.
(pt. 2) Keep in mind that all of Dr. Black's assignments are due by 8 pm, and while this is an easy enough adjustment, there is absolutely NO late work/makeup policy. Essentially, make sure you are on your Ps and Qs every week, as the very few graded assignments are weighted heavily. This class is a slog that I do not look forward to waking up for.
Dr. Black is amazing! If I were still at Collin I would take her again. She does an amazing job at teaching and upholding standards. No extra credit is allowed because no extra credit is needed if you pay attention in class and do your part this class will be a breeze.
Only take this class if you truly hate yourself. Participating in this class is an awful experience. Any alternative you have to taking a MANDATORY CORE CREDIT course for government would be considerably better than taking this course with “Dr.” Black. 100 Question mid term on honor lock. If that sounds like something you'd like to do go for it.
YOU MAY NOT PASS. There's only the weekly quiz, possible extra credit, and three exams. I had spent many sleepless nights studying all of the information on the so-called "study guides," packing my brain with the textbook and lecture notes for so much of it to not show up on the exam. She won't help you, she just wants to share her passion for gov.
Professor is among the worst I have had at collin college. Rarely responds to emails, very sarcastic when she does answer them, sent me to the dean for very minor issue only to receive a 0 for grade. Quick to give you a zero if you so much as look away from the screen on Honorlock. Exams are heavy if you fail one you fail the class. Don't take!
If you take an online exam make sure you do it in a desert with no signs of human civilization around you

I'm sure she's a nice person, but as a professor, why get into a profession if you don't plan on actually committing to the role of educating? Like I'm 99% sure all the 5 star reviews of her on this page is just her making reviews for herself lol. Anywhere else this class is actually taught with the intention of students passing. I guarantee she will actively try to ruin your grade. If this is the only prof available save your money and wait a semester. Don't pay for torture, be smart.
Only a few quizzes, but exams are proctored. Even though Honorlock provides a proctor, Dr. Black watches EVERY exam because that's not good enough. Make sure you don't have a lamp on your desk or plug your charger in because she will give you a zero on the midterm worth 30% of your grade! I maintained a 4.0 all year and had to drop. DON'T TAKE HER.

She gave me a 0 on the exam for “Not adhering to Honorlocks policies” and said that I had applications open- it was the bar at the bottom that stayed there despite me being full screen and only on the test. I emailed her about it and got no response. Also, her exam was 80 questions over 3 weeks of material.

She failed me because my camera froze and did not turn back on. She proceeded to not respond to any emails and got upset whenever I told her she would be working there much longer if she continued to do this to other students.
WHO is rating her 5 stars? Had 2 exams total which makes up your entire grade basically, fail one and you're cooked. Mind you, these exams are within maybe 3 weeks and are 80 questions each. DO NOT take the exam in bed or near ANYONE, do NOT have the bar on your laptop showing that shows your applications!!! Failed bc of this bs

Started with high A and ended with an F because I took my final exam in my bed which is apparently an inappropriate place to take an exam. Got a zero on the exam even though I answered almost every question correct. Absolutely fuming and couldn't retake nor did prof have any mercy. DONT TAKE EXAMS IN BED GUYS IM SO MAD RN
The professor fails students over the smallest things, with no opportunity to revise or redo assignments. She'll report you for simple things such as 'moving eyes' (reading test questions??), any sound or movement during tests, 'your language is too profound for your age' (failed me for being too articulate). Unreasonable and demoralizing.

Do not take this professor. She gave me a zero on the midterm for my taskbar being open. Then on the final, she tried to fail me and reported me to the dean for “cheating” but after the dean reviewed the evidence, he said I was in fact not cheating. She will try to fail you for everything and abuses her power. Her exams are 80 ?s.
She was by far the worst online professor I've had. Assignments were due at 8pm, which was manageable, but she constantly deducted points unfairly. The rubrics for the midterm and final were vague, and she took off points for things not even mentioned. Many reviews say she abuses her power, and I agree.
Dr. Black holds students to high professional standards. She is firm, but that shouldn't be confused with being unfair. Expectations are clear: success requires personal accountability, doing the readings, and following testing protocols to the letter. If you value academic integrity and actually want to learn the material, take her class.
