Some students had problems with her, but I didn't mind her. She's not as dry as Siehl, and her classes are really easy - I think she's kinda lazy. Easy to pass, and she tries to make them fun. I really liked this class cuz I got to goof off the whole time. Take her for HSW classes.

I think this class was wonderful and I learned a lot from Mimi. The discussions were great and we were encouraged to participate. She was clear in what she wanted us to learn and you always know where you are with her. I do not believe she is lazy and would never use that word to describe her.

Very easy instuctor. She makes it almost impossible not to get an "A". There is work involved, not a 'no work'' class.but if you do all the work, you'll do fine

Mimi is funny and very laid back about her tests and assignments. Tests can be taken on Blackboard (with notes) and are usually available for a good week. What more could you ask for? She does however tend to summarize the book in her lectures and does not give a lot of feedback on student progress.

I had her for HSW100, and 230, and Soc 100 and plan on taking her for another soc. class. She is also my advisor. I have to say that i have learned so much from her. Its not just about the material, and reading that you can learn. I HIGHLY recommend her.

I like her class because she puts a real spin on the material and uses tons of real life expeirences which is somewhat helpful in the overall scheme of things. Class is only half as long as the scheduled time. She reads through ch.'s and discusses them in class. Gives a GOOD review sheet to study off of. Test is pretty much the review sheet.

An easy, blow-off class. Just show up. There are no trick questions. The work expected is appropriate. All you need for your degree in a C+ and that is impossible to avoid if you just come to class. Lots of opportunity for extra-credit. Do it all and get an A. Unfortunately, we don't get much from her own experiences.

Easy course. Please note I took her over the spring/summer and not in the fall/winter. 4 tests, and a group project all worth 100 points each. Besides studying for tests, the text book is not needed. come to class, don't pay attention, and you and still do well. Please note she is talking about redoing her course material. I really wanted to like this class after reading the comments here. Mimi seems like a nice lady, but she doesn't do more than read the power point slides. If she doesn't get through them, she tells us to read them at home. No control over her classroom. Lots of talking going on and students not paying attention. One student dominated classtime.

Her class was OK. It wasn't difficult, but it did get a bid tedious knowing that she's only going to read powerpoint slides everyday. This did make her class very predictable. She puts her Powerpoints on BB and her tests were all online. We were able to use our textbook and powerpoints on the online tests. Lots of extra credit papers available

Awesome prof! She is super easy, but at the same time- nice. Lots of extra credit papers available. She gives timely feedback and gives awesome comments for awesome works. Do the readings and papers, and you will learn a lot. I would advise taking this class online.

If you're conscious and have a pulse, you can get an A in this class. It's that easy. Mimi Norwood definitely has a passion for sociology, and she will work with you to make sure you're getting 100% out of her class. Really an awesome teacher. And there's TONS of extra credit!

She's an incredibly easy teacher. Classes are mostly going over the Notes that are available online - try to engage the classroom about the material, that's where the real learning is. Tests are online and untimed. She gives tons of extra credit opportunities, so use them. If you do, it will literally be impossible to get a sub-A grade.

Mimi class was very easy just show up and participate in the classroom discussion. There is 4 exams, 4 assignments and the rest is extra credit. I would recommend her to anyone!! Classroom discussion can get heated! also you watch a lot of movies in her class. loved it

Mimi goes over and beyond for her students, this was a very intense class with alot of view, she had to be a referee a couple of times but you learn alot, keep up with assignements, go to class you will get extra credit, and do all extra credit you can easy grade! Take her for all the classes you can!

She's an awesome professor; I took Race & Ethnic Relations, and the workload is lightweight. She's insanely nice, funny, always willing to go out of her way for a student. Just don't take her if you have a vested interest in sociology - I didn't retain altogether too much sociological erudition. We watched good movies though. She brought donuts.

Great teacher, I read the reviews here that so you don't learn anything. I disagree. There is much to be said about what you learn in discussions during class. She leads the discussions very well and she is not afraid of controversy. I would say my class was an amazing and mature group of individuals and can handle mature discussion.

She is so nice, interested in what students have to say, and laid back. Lectures are interesting and full of discussion led by her and the class. She lets us speak our mind, but keeps us on track if it gets hectic. Power points are went through quickly so I do notes on my own time out of the book. She has given about 10 EC opportunities, easy A!

I like Mimi, she's a very approachable professor. But her exams are ridiculous. She puts things in the exams that aren't even from chapters we've covered. Each class is a lecture that she flies through so you don't have a chance to take notes in class. You'll have to read and take notes on your own time in order to pass. Gives a lot of extra credit

If you have a burning passion for Sociology, this probably isn't the class for you. The class is beyond easy (Never read the book), but lecture is boring. Tests were online and could be taken at home - Google searching the questions will get you an avg of a 94% on tests. Lots of Extra Credit, but attendance is mandatory or you'll lose your grade.

She was an amazing teacher. Never done subjective teaching as other professors has. Her class was understandable, and accessible outside of class. Lecture material was is to get through, and exams were easy. She graded few things, and offered extra credit.I enjoyed her and will be taking another course with her.

I took this class online. You have to keep up with the work, but she is a very fair teacher. The subject matter is interesting. If you study quizlet, you will do really well on her quizzes and tests.

She's very nice, funny and chill. Depending on the people in the class, there can be lots of good class discussions. However, she does tend to just read off the powerpoint & not elaborate. Tests are really hard. She does offer a lot of extra credit and she grades fairly easy.

Mimi is a really good teacher because she really wants her students to learn, not just memorize and take a test for a grade. If you take SOC 205, the lectures are about 30 min and then a documentary on the subject. Attendance is important for your grade but she isn't strict about being late. The tests are really difficult but there is no time limit

I really liked her and the class because quizzes were not mandatory. The class was mainly graded from discussion boards and essays. Really understanding and super nice.

Mimi is awesome! I love the in class discussions. The notes are a little lengthy and she goes really fast, but if you read the book you'll be okay. The exams don't exactly cover the material that we discussed in class.

Mimi is so amazing. she gives the students the ability to truly speak our minds and opinions. of course she has a lot of homework assignments, but if you take your time, and begin early you'll finish them in a couple of hours. she gives you the due date for assignments and gives a good amount of EC. 10/10 would take again.

Taking Intro to Soc online was such a great decision! Very doable to work ahead and finish the class whenever you want. Weekly discussion boards, 5 tests, & 5 papers. Students can receive extra credit on DBs by responding to more than 2 students. Completed the course with over 100%! Highly recommend for an easy A if you're interested in the topic.

This class online with Prof Norwood was very easy! She is superrrr delayed in grading items, but if you throughly explain your answers in the discussion boards (plus responses) and essays you will do just fine. The 5 Exams are very easy and there are many Quizlets available to help you prepare. Easy A!!!

This was a gen ed class. The instructor is very fair, gives good feedback and will guide you if you make the effort to give it your best.

Take SOC100 online! Very doable amount of work and tests are quite easy. Don't bother buying the online textbook as other online resources can help you complete assignments. Be thorough in discussion boards and engage in the content. She is very delayed in grading items which can be frustrating, but accepts late work. Easy A, definitely take it!!

I love Mimi, She made learning about sociology fun and cool. There are a lot of lectures but if you do the readings you should be able to get an A on her tests. Homework is very easy, just a couple of papers and some extra credit. Very easy to get an A.

I LOVED HER!! I really appreciate how lenient she is. If you enjoy the subject and put a lot of thought into your work you'll do great in the class. Loved Mimi and her feedback is very encouraging.

I took this course online and found that the homework load was heavy but still manageable. She is nice though and an easy grader (at least online). You just have to put in the work that is required of you and you will succeed in this class.

She's a great professor, but I'm not sure why people are saying they didn't learn anything from her. I definitely learned a lot from her. It was a good class, but the tests were pretty tough since they were so specific. Overall, I think it was a great class, and I would take her again. Don't listen to the ratings. We miss you, Norwood!

Professor Norwood's SOC100 class is pretty manageable, especially the online version. The workload is doable, and resources like Quizlet can help with test prep. I found Unstuck study and other study tools useful too. Overall, a solid class for an easy A.

I took this class during the Winter 2025 Semester. I overall liked the pace of the course and the content; the course puts great emphasis on discussion boards, and there is quite a bit of reading that is paired with the assignments given. She is quite lenient on late assignments and provides feedback on assignments and discussion board responses.

What a nice instructor. I had been struggling on the exams, but thankfully we had an extra credit opportunity. I wrote a 4-page paper that was to her standard that she rounded my grade up by 4%. She basically said not to worry about the grades and to keep trying. Great experience.
