Lots of fun - very inspiring and informed.
Doesnt prepare students for midterm at all. Seems like she wants everyone to fail.
The midterm was ridiculous, it was made so you had to memorize every detail instead of knowing the general concepts of each era, and was written as if she wanted us to fail. I wish there were smaller tests so we could understand the way she marks before the big assignments
acts "nice" but really "evil". does not believe in bell curve. -_- class very useless for fashion students.
Big ****bag. this woman is stank. she is mean and she wears the same suit every day. her middy was unreasonably hard and specific after she told the class that specifics are for grad school and we would only be tested on general knowledge. More than half the class failed unless they BARELY passed.
LETS JUST SAY SHOULD RETIRE IMMEDIATELY!! do not look directly in her eyes, you WILL turn to stone!! beware!! shes like a medusa (oh wait i guess we did learn something, or alot of things, we just werent tested on them) prepare for multiple choice questions on exam with choices A-Q

Exams are ridiculously difficult.. Prof very VERY condesending, esp. towards fashion students
Not helpful attt all.. MIDTERM WAS CRAZY.. i was forced to drop out of her class and loose $600..
She is the devil. I took the course because I was interested in Art History and now I think I may never look at it again. I think she is a horrible teacher and needs to learn how to make better exams...cause she sucks at it.
Awesome class.
I loved this class.
HoRIIBLLEEEEE!! REALLLY HARDDD..ONLY LIKE 2 ppl do good in the class
I loved this class. It was fun.
I loved her. She was so funny.
Cold, hard, needs to connect better with students.
She's the worst professor ever
She's fabulous - too bad about the stupid people in her classes.

She was the best teacher I ever had. This course was awesome.
This is the best course at Ryerson. If you fail this course you are stupid.
i don't like her teaching style, all that sarcasm and her never ending use of the word 'iconography'. interesting material but she came across as a bit odd.
I loved her. This was my favorite course this semester.
This is my favorite class.
Awesome prof...she was extremely helpful. Just go to class and you'll be set for the midterm/final exam.
I love her. She's hilarious, and very smart, and genuinely wonderful prof, not to mention human being. The was the best class I took this year, due entirely to how energetic, enthusiastic, and non-judgmental Mimi was.
She was fantastic! Anyone who fails this course is a major loser. She made it so easy to study for the tests.
Wow! Way better than Scalzo. Everything is really clear. Fun.
Didn't fall asleep even once in class! She KNOWS what she's teaching, she makes it fun too! Very clear and helpful. Definitely better off with Mimi than Julia!
Wow! It was like night and day compared to Julia. I loved her. She's fair.
I found this class very interesting thanks to Mimi, even though I don't like the subject. She has been to almost every place she talks about, and I thought that was awesome. if you need help don't be afraid to talk to her, just be honest about the problem and she WILL help you! As for the exam, now that they are essay type, just know the topics ;)
Take this class! If her beauty doesn't encourage you to pay attention, perhaps her incredibly broad and deep knowledge of art, history, and all lines drawn in between, will keep you on task. If you put in the work of being there, following the themes, and correlating with the book, you've an A. Plus: There was a hot invigilator for final exam.

Wow it was nice to hear about the latest design for a change! She understands what's important. Easy to study for midterm
Mimi has to be the BEST professor I ever had at Ryerson! I'm still taking classes there but doubt I will ever have a good teacher like her again. She made art history really fun for us to learn (not that it wasnt fun to begin with) but she kept it at a level that it was interesting to learn art history and not just memorizing dates, artist names..
I overall enjoyed her teaching although the material was quite dry (all the dates and places of the artwork were tedious to memorize). Overall a pretty good experience but I wouldn't recommend taking this liberal unless you're amazing at remembering dates and making up some BS about spirituality and religion...
She's very "cold" ...
Good Prof
ART HISTORY HAS NEVER BEEN SO INTERESTING OR FUN. Honestly, she's one of the best profs I've ever had! Especially compared to Julia Scalzo...
Mimi is a dream to learn from. I have seldom met somebody as enthusiastic and passionate about their profession as her. She is honest, passionate and empathetic. She is 'cold' only if you have a weak personality and are not able to get her to relax or let her guard down. I recommend her class just for the experience of interacting with her.
Truly an inspiration, her love and passion in art & design history encourages me to look and embrace history with a whole new perspective =)
Cold is a great word for her. The course material is interesting but the essay is very unstructured, and then she is incredibly harsh on marking it. This is liberal studies, we are not art majors! Also, forces you to sign an essay agreement thing. And don't ask her for help, she'll just treat you like an idiot. STAY AWAY
Such a harsh marker! I`ve spent at least 48 hours on my essay, I`ve been to writing center, I sneaked into UofT to get the necessary books, I`ve learned by heart her guidelines . And I got 65%. Carma will get her.
She is a horrible teacher. Her evaluations were very unfair and not a reflection of the level understanding of the course or material. Fitting into 'her' interpretation of what is a good essay or thesis statement is impossible. When asking for help, she is very condescending. I truly believe she is out to fail her students.
Amaaazing! Her class is probably the best I've ever taken. Yes she may be a tough marker, but the material is so incredibly interesting, and she really knows how to pick and choose the best information to give us and make it exciting. She's a great prof and clearly knows her stuff. take her class!
Great, funny, down to earth teacher. She really tells it how it is and REALLY knows her stuff. Take advantage of one on one time with her, maybe an appointment to talk to her about assignments BEFORE you hand them in and make sure you are on the right track, she is really helpful and not intimidating.
seems easy but is not. the work load is BULL. a 30%midterm exam and final exam which takes the higher mark, attendance 3%, 2% stupid paper to hand in that you have to do over and over again, and a 30%essay which is soo hard. shes has attitude and is annoying with her voices shes uses to appeal to her students like were 5year olds.
One of the worst profs I've ever had. Tries to be funny, but very mean, cold and cynical. Material was interesting, but grading was totally unfair. Very rude to students
Entertaining Lecturer, gives out all the notes you'll need. Essays are hard, rules very strict, but there are no English requirements in Interior Design, so someone has to teach us how to write. Rude and condescending by email, everything seems easy when you talk to her in person. Believes her written instructions are crystal clear, not always so.
Very interesting course and Mimi is great at keeping it interesting and helpful. She has very specific expectations for her exams and essay but before each she makes it mandatory that you send her your thesis so that you don't fail. Its an easy course, just make sure you follow her very detailed outlines for each assessment and ask her for help!!
Took IRL 500 as a Liberal Studies because I thought it would be interesting; very wrong. The prof was in her own world where mundane facts were interesting and cut and paste text from Wikipedia sufficed as lecture material. Lectures felt like the Twilight Zone, they had no structure, no explanation of why things were important, and beyond boring.
Worst prof of all time. She has unrealistic expectations, and the only way to get a good grade is to follow her around with your essay until the day you hand it in. She acts sweet when you go talk to her, but don't be fooled, she will fail you so fast for something so stupid. I think it is her mission to fail students. Job well done Mimi.
Took both IRL 100 and 500. She is intimidating and not overly friendly. Very sarcastic and cynical. A very hard marker and her expectations are not always clear. Still, very fair and the best professor I've had. She is very funny and her lectures are fascinating!I would pick her courses regardless of what they are just to be in her class again!
The only positive thing that I can say about Mimi is that she knows her stuff, I'll give her that much. Midterm: extremely difficult and very detailed, don't be fooled when she tells you that it's only general information. Essay: ridiculous and unrealistic expectations, for an introductory art history level, the research required is very unfair.
If you are passionate about art history and are really good at writing essays and memorizing lots of detailed information, then you will probably consider this class easy. As for every other normal person, this course is like a trip to hell. Take my advice, do not take this course with Mimi unless you want to fail and lose $600 and your sanity.
Very interesting class. Good preparation for grad school work. I did not fall asleep in class, thank God for that. She definitely knows her stuff well. Somewhat friendly. I think she needs to have better preparation for students before midterms and final exams..
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! interesting material but classes were hard to stay awake and there was too much content. Covered history of christianity, judaism and islam and 10 different countries at 4 different eras each. Studying for the midterm and final are the worst things I have ever done. I'm a 3.0 GPA student seriously concerned about failing :(
I was really looking forward to this class. It was my elective, and was my HARDEST class! Especially for first year. World Art sounds easy...but this class was ridiculous. Covered SO much information. On the bright side, she's funny and knows what she's talking about. She's very passionate about WHAT she's teaching, just not good at teaching it.
I've taken both of the liberals she teaches and am sad that she does not teach more liberals...super awesome and extremely knowledgible!
One of the best professors at Ryerson. Intelligent, funny, knowledgable on more topics than most professors at Ryerson combined. If you attend all classes she gives you the opportunity to get A+. Took both liberal classes she teaches and honestly would have loved it if she taught more. One of my favorite classes at Ryerson ever!!
AMAZING. She is incredibly smart and inspiring. She's hard but you learn SO much, I'm taking her upper level and hope to have her again. She knows her information, and is respectful. I absolutely loved the class, learned so much, and so inspire.
If you want a 60 then take this course. She takes attendance every class & she's a harsh marker. Only students with an art background will do well in this class. She expects us to know art theory and write a 20 page essay. So regret taking this course!
WORST PROF EVER!!!!!
Mimi knows her stuff. If you attend her classes and get to know and understand the material then you can do well in this course. The material is interesting and I took her IRL 100 class and found it useful for IRL 500. Just come to the classes, follow the instructions and read everything you're supposed to and you can get a minimum of an A-. Really
Mimi makes the course very interesting and I found taking IRL 100 useful prior to this course. Material is heavy but interesting. If you do everything you're supposed to, participate often and can easily grasp the material then you can easily get at least an A-! Really not that difficult.
Amazing
Literally showed vaction slides insteadof using a textbook. Notes posted online were used instead of a text and were up to 75 pages long. Abrasive, unhelpful, uninteresting.
Likes to say sexy times for class appeal, and the use of a scrunchy because she has no clue. I have an A average and I was given a D in her class due to her lack of clarity. This female is cut; boring and loser. long live scalzo, one of the few thoughtful RSID minds.
Pretty interesting class but essay was difficult to keep up with her guidelines and and very hard and annoying to study for the exam, which was impossible.
Probably one of if not the best classes of university, she is so smart and inspiring. Absolutely amazing. She makes you work hard but it's very rewarding.
Although she is knowledgable, avoid if possible. Final exam has 500 slides(no joke) to study from. WAY too difficult for a first year elective course. She seems nice in lecture but in person comes off as cold, annoyed and unwilling to help. Strict guidlines for assignments. Don't expect an A, your final grade is most likely going to be a D.
hard marker! talks like you have an art background. not helpful in comments and slides and notes to study off of are massively long.
Avoid if you are taking this class as an elective. Essay requirements are ridiculous, and so time consuming. Comments are condescending. Expects you to have an art background. No text, but 500 slides which she rambles about and then expects you to sit there and memorize dates and names for the final. Horrible!
This class may be more difficult than some electives, but it's definately worth it. Very rewarding. Learned a lot. Inspiring.
Mimi is one of the most enthusiastic and gifted professors that I've ever had. She is clearly passionate about her subject matter and digs deep to deliver an interesting (and educational) perspective on the topics within the course. She is also a fast marker, keeps her promises, and she's funny.
I absolutely LOVE attending her lectures. So inspiring and you learn SO MUCH every lecture. She is funny and very knowledgeable. And extremely helpful when you are having trouble with the course because she wants everybody to do well. Essay requirements and the weekly readings are pretty heavy for an elective but it is rewarding. LOVE HER!
Great Prof. I imagined art history to be boring but she makes it so fun, you actually want to go to her class. She doesn't have a textbook and just gives notes which are GREAT. The essay and 2 quizes are fair but are also a bit tricky. But they aren't torture, you actually learn from it. Overall just AMAZING!
AWESOME prof! Finds amazing information and delivers it in a funny and interesting way. She related art to important concepts and was very fair in understanding that not all students do well on both essays and tests, so she offers mark replacement. If at all interested in art, ABSOLUTELY take this course with Mimi
rude.
She will listen and can be reasoned with. If you show her respect and attend to all her classes, you'll do well. Very helpful in 1 on 1 critique. No textbook is used.
Mimi was a great professor! She is engaging, personable, and makes the whole course worth it. She understands students in summer courses are busy with other things, and makes the course as easy as possible while still making it a worthwhile learning experience.
The exam and midterm were multiple choice, but not meant to trick you. All the material is easily accessible and she breaks down each module really easily in lecture!
Mimi is a really great prof. She's hilarious and makes learning about art and design fun. There's some participation required but as long as you do the work and go to class, no worries. I highly recommend taking a class with her.
Mimi is not only an amazing professor, but a wonderful person. I took IRL 100 with her last year and it was also awesome. She's funny, approachable, and open to new ideas. Yes, there is a lot of material to memorize, but she's really clear about everything and wants her students to do well. I wish I could take more classes with her!
Mimi is really amazing prof and her classes are very enjoyable and worth going. However there is a lot of reading but she is always helpful. She is hilarious and drives our interest in the course. I took two courses in two semesters both liberals IRL100 and IRL500 and both were amazing.
AMAZING professor! She's so hilarious, while still giving you thorough knowledge on not only the art, but about the world in which the art was created. She's so passionate about what she's teaching and it really shows. You definitely won't be bored in this class! She doesn't believe in textbooks for this course, and provides all info and readings!
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. Somehow only saw good reviews, took it, made a huge mistake. Hardest class I've taken at Rye & its a 1st yr elective. Covers 5 religions, 15 countries, & 1000s of years of history. 600 slides (NOT JOKING) of specific information u need to study for tests & the hardest/most specific paper EVER. DO NOT DO THIS TO YOURSELF!!
I would recommend going to all the lectures because the course covers A LOT! Just paying attention in class will go a long way in this course! She always makes it clear what is expected and points out what is important to know for exams. All of her notes are online along with the slideshows.
AMAZING PROF! Lectures are very interactive. Course requires a lot of reading but is so fun. If you enjoy world art, I'd recommend this course. She's very understanding when it comes to grading. An all around great experience.
Mimi is amazing! One of my favorite profs. She is very engaging, knowledgeable and funny. If you listen during lectures, you would get an A. I took IRL 100 and IRL 500 and got an A in both. She also reviewed my essay topic, and helped me with her suggestions. Your Essay or Midterm mark could be changed to whichever one is higher, if you wish so.
