3 tests, homework is online, attendance not mandatory, but she did offer extra credit on one particular day to reward those who showed up to class because she saw it was half full. Extra credit also offered on tests. Helpful when you need her and a non-threatening personality. Found this class rather difficult since I'm not an econ major.
Great Professor! Very helpful and great with students. The best prof. at the Econ. Department. She cares about you if you show some interest in the subject.
I find this teacher to be extremely irritable... She will randomly start screaming in the middle of her lectures to get your attention, don't get me wrong, it definitely works but also gives you a heart attack as well. He sense of humor is very odd and can be really vulgar. Also, she really likes apples, bananas, shoes, and lipsticks.
By attending class every time and going over the power point slides and being prepared, it was a good class. She is very hard on the grading and the online homework is graded by how many you get correct like a test. Tests are very challenging too. Over all good class and learned a lot.
Definitely need to read the textbook. She offers no practice exam so you do need to study a lot. Nice professor this clasd does take a lot to learn it.
Professor's lecture is not that clear, I wish she would slow down on her power points and go slower on her examples to make sure her students are following along with her. she regularly yells out loud because she gets EXCITED or she's trying to get her students attention. I wished she prepared some extra credit or something.
Her lectures are confusing and her notes are not helpful. Going to class will not help you on the tests or homework.
I learned a lot from the Professor. She is very helpful and nice. Econ is very difficult for me, but she makes it much easier. Love her sense of humor in class!!! PPTs are helpful but her lectures are much easier to follow.
It was a wonderful class. I was lucky to have taken the class from Prof. Thaw. PPTs were good and her lecturers were easy to follow. She didn't take the attendance so it's hard to be motivated to go to class. If you missed her lectures, very hard to catch up. I made efforts to show up to the lectures and it made a huge difference in my grade
Great class. I learned a lot and Professor Thaw is very helpful. She reads a lot and knows inside out about the development economics. If you don't want to learn a lot or work hard, don't take it from her. All three exams are essays but her grading style is reasonable. Overall both the professor and subject are wonderful!
Homework is online. Only tests are two midterms and a final. Attendance is not mandatory although sometimes she gives out extra credit for being there, especially if half the class doesn't show up. Pretty good teacher who explains complex subjects well. Her lectures can get boring sometimes. Overall pretty good teacher
Don't blame the teacher, blame the subject. NO MATTER what prof you have, if econ isn't your thing, you got to work to understand it. That said, she's a nice, silly person who gives ALL the tools you need to pass. You HAVE to do your part and do the homework (9 assignments) and study.
I am taking the class right now. The subject is super hard, but her lectures are very clear and well prepared. I took the class from another prof. and failed. 5 homework assignments, 2 midterms and one final. Midterms are hard but not too hard relatively speaking. Very passionate in teaching and helping the students. I like her very much!
I am taking her class right now. Going to class will not help you as everything is on Power Point lectures. There is no explanation in regards to homework. The class is very tough. Would not take this professor
Min Min Thaw knows her stuff but does not know how to convey it to her students. Doesn't go over material that we were tested on. Expected to memorize A LOT of formulas. Hard to understand, thick accent. Screams at random times. Nice lady but class was unnecessarily hard. Probably won't pass unless you have photographic memory.
Prof. Thaw knows her field of study well. There is no doubt about that. Her lectures are Powerpoint slides which are up on SacCT which really helps, as class tends to be boring, and mundane. With that being said, she really challenges you to know the material in the book, by outside reading, and practice problems. You have to work, but its worth it
Professor Thaw was a really awesome professor and I thought she was hilarious sometimes. I felt like there was not enough explanation for the homework assignments but if you go to her office she'll help you out. For the first two tests she didn't provide study guides but she did for the final. You do have to memorize formulas for the tests!
Her class is pretty easy if you read the book and actually ask for help. I got an f on the first two exam. However i did all the hw, show up to class ask for help, did the extra credit. And took time to actually study after the second exam. She gave pretest for the final, ace it and i ended up with a B. Her class is base on you. You have to do work
The subject itself is very difficult. Macroeconomics has lots of graphs and formulas. However, she is very reasonable in grading and makes the grade distribution so that students will pass with at least a C unless she/he is totally stupid and doesn't do the assigned homework. She is kind, willing to help and a fun person. Love her! Best Prof!
Prof. Thaw is supper fun and a great teacher. I have been at Sac State for two years and she is the BEST prof although the subject is very difficult. She is caring, helpful and nice person. Aplia homework, however, are hard. We had 9 homework altogether. You can ask for her help with homework too. I love her smile and jokes.
It was an easy class. Money and banking but more like monetary policy class. Thaw let us know that in the first day of class that it's not an investment class. I learned about PV, time vale of money and that kind of stuffs. Useful for daily finance and learned functions of Central banks. HW were easy but exams were hard. Prof. Thaw is great!
Prof.. Thaw's lectures were wonderful. PPTs, however, were a bit long and confusing. I preferred the days where she prepared her own lectures. Very engaging and care about the students. She can be funny at times. Great Prof. at the econ dept. Needed to study and stay focused. Overall, I would recommend her to my friends.
Homework are online. 2 mid-terms and 1 final. She is funny, kind and nice professor. The class can be boring if Econ is not your thing but you will pass the class if you study the powerpoints and listen to her lectures. However, aplia homework can be all over the place, asking stuffs that is not taught in class.
Overall, this is not too bad of a class. The homework and tests can be tough though. Be prepared to sit through a lecture every class except for test days. She very rarely offered extra credit. She can be funny at times but also kind of weird. She tends to yell in the middle of lectures to wake people up.
I loved this class and I hate Econ. I actually failed the first test because I did not pay attention in class. She is cool with laptops and phones, but for this class you have to pay attention to lecture if you want to pass, I made that mistake. I came to really enjoy this class. I wish I could take her for Econ 1A!
The first week I attended lecture, I was a little bit weirded out because she would randomly scream a word out in the middle of her sentence. Lectures are clear and she knows what she's talking about. Mild accent. APLIA online homework; it's a bit of work for a lower division Econ class.
Thaw was a funny professor but super hard to pass her class, she has 3 test including the final and they are very difficult. She gives out one online homework assignment a week but don't be fooled by that because they are hard and you don't get feedback on your answers. There often were questions on the test including graphs that we never learned.
Great professor! I would definitely recommend Professor Thaw to every student needing to take Economics 1B (Microeconomics) at Sacramento State. The course involves 3 exams (including the final) and 9 online homework assignments. Make sure to pay attention during lectures, otherwise, exams and homework can become hard. Gives extra credit.
The class was interesting, but difficult. You need to study for the course. Her online homework problems were easy although exams were rather challenging. She is very sharp, funny and helpful person. She knows how to make international economics course (graphs and equations) interesting and fun for us. Thanks!
Great Class! she made it interesting to learn.
This class was difficult, but as long as you attend regularly and pay attention in lectures you should do fine. She can be hard to understand but she tends to make jokes about her accent. She moves pretty quickly so it can be hard to keep up. Ppts are online and very helpful. 8 homework, 2 midterms, 1 final. Study the homework and you should be ok
Hard class to pass, tests are very hard. Gives occasional extra credit for showing up. Not many Hw assignments but they're fairly hard (online so you can use resources). No study guides but you can study the Hw. Funny but can be hard to understand.
Great Professor! Class difficult af but curve helps a lot
She gives extra credit to students who are present in the class most of the time. Fun and interesting to listen to during lectures. Hilarious with her stories, jokes, laughs, etc. Awesome personality!
She explains things in ways we can all understand in my opinion. Attendance isn't mandatory, but because the lectures are heavy missing class and not paying attention will make it hard understanding the materials (considering most of the students in class who payed attention still struggled to understand). I will be taking her again for 1B.
Didn't learn much in any of her classes. Study the material and you will be fine. However, if you actually want to learn/benefit from your time on campus, find another professor.
The best class that I have taken so far at Sac State. Econ is a difficult subject, Prof. Thaw made it so enjoyable. Strong personality, smart and yet funny. Very entertaining lectures. I learned a lot. Attendance was not required, but you will benefit a lot if you attend the lectures. We had 6 online homework, two midterms and a final.
International Finance class that I took from Prof. Thaw. She knew her subject well and explained to us in a way that we could understand. It wasn't an easy class especially if you don't like graphs and equations. Online homework assignments were easy as it gave two attempts. Exams are hard but she curves the course grade. No all was good.
Terrible feedback, minimal help with project, usually doesn't even know what needs to be done.
I was expecting to be stressed out the whole semester, but this class was actually a positive experience. Professor Thaw really cares about her students and wants all of them to succeed, and is available to give you the help and motivation that you need. Would definitely recommend taking her for 145
I was so afraid of taking Econ 145 as it was the last class aka thesis for Econ majors. But she made the class relatively easy with her clear expectations for each homework assignment. If you showed her that you are working hard and that are progressing along the way, she will let you pass. I was GREAT!
Great professor. In order to pass you actually need to put in work. If you are looking for an easy GE class, this isn't it. She explained things well and grading were reasonable. Attendance isn't mandatory, but showing up to class will help a ton. Would recommend.
She's really a great professor. Nice and gives very good examples to understand the curriculum. She uploads the lecture's on Canvas so you can look at it on your own time.
I had Thaw for International Trade and when I took Econ 145 with her last year. She explicitly told students that she was getting a paycheck regardless of their effort or attendance, so I guess you could say it was her version of tough love. But overall, she is a solid professor, her grading is somewhat hard but she expects you to give it your all.
Extremely boring and unenjoyable
By far one of my professors at Sac State! Professor Thaw is very passionate and knowledgeable in Economics and shared that with the class. The materials and content can be difficult to understand, but Thaw made a huge effort to ensure her students understood the material. She also included humor in lectures. Wish I could take another class w/her!
Weired style for teaching, avoid this class as elective.
She is very understanding and will help whenever you need it.
Unfortunately not the best class to take online and a really tough grader considering how little face to face we had with her
A lot of reading but lectures are very useful and tie all of the concepts together well. Homework assignments are not too difficult and do not need any access code. Overall good professor.
I had a great experience learning economics online. She was amazing! I enjoyed her lectures and learned a lot. 3 midterms, 8 homework assignment and a final. It was all good and I will take her again. Thanks Prof. Thaw
I took Econ 145, a capstone course from Prof. Thaw. I must say it was the best class and professor that I had at Sacramento State. She is a very motivational person. I learned a lot about statistics and economics from her. In fact, I learned more about stat from her than I did in Econ 140 (stat course). I could feel that she loved teaching.
Thaw is really good for classes other than the Capstone Final Year Paper class. Ever since classes turned to online, Professor Thaw's level of dedication to her students and responsiveness towards her emails are very slow. It's going to be difficult to pass her class and graduation if you take 145 with her. Me and a few classmates barely made it.
Professor Thaw's lectures are not the most entertaining, they are quite boring actually, but I mean it's a class. But that aside, homework and tests are practically identical, so if the homework is easy or hard for you then the test will be too. She's one of the nicest professors I've ever had, but wouldn't take her again due to her lectures.
She told us that every class shes taught, the average is a 45%. She basically expected us to fail. The first midterm, the majority of class did better on the multiple choice, so she reduced the multiple questions from 15 to 5. We werent supposed to do that well. She suspected that people were cheating, but we all failed. Save yourself.
She is set in her teaching ways. She usually only goes over one, most basic example and skips a lot of steps. When we ask her to go over more for different types of questions, she accuses us of "knowing how to teach the class" and does not go over any. She gets really upset that we ask for more help and is proud when her students test below 50%.
First exam she had multiple choice questions that the class wasn't suppose to get correct so she suspected people were cheating. She says her class averages is typically 45%. She is way too negative to the class.
Professor Thaw is such a sweet lady. She is so nice, however her lectures aren't the most interesting. The lectures help some with the homework/exams, but I found the textbook to help more.
She is nice and will go into further information if you ask. The questions on her quizzes aren't always taught. They do have a relation but it is not specifically brought up in lectures. Most of it is taught though. She does explain economic math questions well. If you study, you'll definitely pass.
The best online class that I had during the COVID-19 time. She was great! The grading guidelines were clear and returned the assignment in speedy manner. However, if you turned in HW assignment late, she will not grade it right away. Thus, some students felt that she was show in returning. I am glad that I took 145 from her. Thanks!
I enjoyed taking Econ 100B from Prof. Thaw. The materials were difficult, but she made it easy for us. HW really assisted my understanding. You must study her answer keys for each assignment to do well on the exams. I was glad that she reduced the numbers of MC questions on tests because answer keys for MC could be found online. Well done, Prof!
Professor Min Min Thaw is a really sweet and enlightening lecturer. I have a hearing disability and it is hard for me to understand speech. Due to mask mandate, my auditory understand was impeded and I relied on lip reading. She took an initiation to accommodate my disability, thus I was immensely blessed. She cares about students.
Her lectures were not interesting but pretty straightforward class 3 quizzes and a final.
She has a weird style of teaching, she doesn't or barely responds to emails. If she responds to emails it takes forever for her to respond. Boring class. Did not learn from her lectures and had to do most of the learning on my own time.
I am the econ. major and have taken many econ classes. Prof. Thaw is the best in our department. I took 3 courses from her. She is caring both in and outside of the class. If you don't want to be pushed, don't take her. However, if you are good enough and want to learn some economics and stats, then she is a must!
I took Money and Banking from Prof. Thaw. Her lectures were so clear and the class was so engaging. She could bring many real life stories in explaining PV, FV, valuing stocks and bonds, monetary polices. All homework assignments were on MyLab. I learned a lot from her and highly recommend her for Econ 135. Thank you, Prof. Thaw!
International finance wasn't my thing, but Prof. Thaw made it very interesting and relevant. We had two midterms, a final and HW on MyLab. If you attend her lectures regularly, you should do well on the exams. Her lectures made me interested in macro topics. Overall, it was a great class.
Prof. Thaw was very helpful. The examples were easy to understand and as long as you follow them, you are good. If you are not a good listener and can't follow simple instructions, you need to avoid her. Her comments for each assignment were very useful for me. Its' a thesis course for undergraduate econ major. Thanks, Prof. Thaw!
I took Econ 145 from another prof and failed. So I took Prof. Thaw's class later. I am so thankful that I took hers and graduated. She had sample assignments on CANVAS and went over what was being expected for each assignment. They were so helpful. I wouldn't have passed the course without her help. She is the greatest! Thank you so much!
Professor Thaw is passionate about what she teaches. I enjoy taking her Money and Banking class. Attendance isn't mandatory but recommended, as she gives a lot of opportunities for extra credit in class. If you study the homework and go over the PowerPoint and book, the midterm will be easy.
Straightforward professor. She does makes some jokes to lighten the class. Her lectures can be long and boring. She has in-class assignments as a way to check attendance. Sometimes she gives extra credit on the exams through the in-class assignments. Exams are multiple choice but can be difficult
She doesn't teach anything, lectures are extremely boring and her accent makes it harder to understand. Very difficult to learn form her be prepared to teach yourself, tests are very difficult but she does curve. You won't pass if you don't teach yourself the material, prof is no help.
She definitely plays favorites, and shows more kindness and leniency towards students who excel more. She also said she would give better examples to the class that she likes more. She can be passive-aggressive in her lectures, as well as when students ask questions, which makes it uncomfortable to approach her after classes or in office hours.
Has gone completely AWOL. Thanks for wasting my money and time.
Hilariously bad. She disappeared for 2 weeks+ and we weren't able to take 2 of the exams. Fortunately the class was able to get the attention of the dean so things worked out in the end, but we would've all failed the class if it weren't for that. Lazy teacher. She seems thinks that teaching a class is a passive income source. Easy, but no learning
Online class had technical issues with 2 exams, causing us to get 0s without being able to take the test. Tried to contact her for 2 weeks but she ghosted the whole class. Administration and econ dean couldn't reach her. She finally responded 2 days before class ended and let us retake the test, but she never explained why she wasn't responding.
I am an economics major, and this is a quantitative research class taken as a capstone course. Professor Thaw was very helpful, guiding us through every step of completing the research. Thank you so much for supporting us along the way. I learned a lot and gained confidence through her positive input in econometrics.
I will never forget this course and Professor Thaw. She is the best professor at Sac State. Her lectures are clear, her examples are relevant, and she made me fall in love with the subject. I will be double majoring in economics because of her. If other professors were as caring and inspiring, our academic lives would be much better. Thank you!
We were initially dreading this intermediate macroeconomics course. However, Professor Thaw made it fun and relevant, even though graphs and math was quite challenging. We had weekly online homework and three exams, and she also offered extra credit opportunities. If you need to take Econ 100A, make sure to take it with Professor Thaw.
Professor is no good at all. I think some of the ratings on rate my professor are fake (or she wrote them). Three are from August 2nd, and all say positive things when nobody else thinks so. Fake. Fake. Fake! Hard grader, unreasonably hard, and does not want best for her students.
The subject of economics is challenging, but she makes it engaging by incorporating real-life examples from various countries. I learned a lot.
Taught solely from slides, her written examples don't make any sense, wasted time in lectures talking about previous students or her son. PLAYS FAVORITES
any good reviews are probably fake. as a studious person, her lectures and examples never made sense, and she never gave participation-it's all lecture. very boring, and a waste of time. also plays favorites w/ students. the class average for exams was 40/100. she's a tough grader & doesn't prep her students to pass, idk if she hates us. don't take
Very passive aggressive towards students that it makes it hard to approach her during office hours, makes students feel dumb for asking questions & will call you out in front of the whole class. Shows favoritism towards students who do better and leaves others in the dark with very minimal help. Yells in class for no reason. Would not take again
Professor Thaw is amazing! Her lectures are clear, engaging, and practical. She encourages discussions, offers extra credit, and curves grades. Her notes and quizzes are enough to succeed!
Professor Thaw is really passionate about teaching and makes learning fun. She cares about her students and encourages the students to share their perspectives. She gives extra credit so don't miss classes. She is caring and wants the students to succeed. Absolutely love her!
Funny professor that teaches the material well.
This professor clearly has favorite students and only engages with them, ignoring the rest of the class. She often screams during lectures, creating an uncomfortable environment. Grading is extremely harsh, especially on exams, with little feedback or clarity. Overall, not a fair or supportive instructor.
She is a really nice person but her exams are insanely hard. I understood the material so well and got all the homework done fast, but when it came to the exams I failed all of them. The only reason my grade was a C- is because of the difficult exams!
Very fun and an engaging professor. She her lectures are easy to understand. If you have a question ask and she will explain it until you understand. She ties in jokes and things going on in the economy to help engage students and tie in the real world with what we were learning in class. I would take her again.
Class was slightly rough. U really need to know the course material, and apply the knowledge into the exams. Professor Thaw was funny at times, but the exams whooped me. I'd recommend taking Econ 1B and econ 1A at a local community college that's online, just so you don't have to worry too much, since the exams can be a little rough.
Blatantly biased. She made wild claims about trickle down economics working and unions being cartels that were backed up by "it is known." Mentioned Trump every lecture, referred to immigrants as aliens, and openly mocked me for mentioning the US-funded coups in other countries when we have loads of declassified files stating what I said.
She's a very sincere funny person and I would not mind taking her class again. Didn't feel too impressed either. Not the most fascinating subject I will say so if it's just a mandatory class for you I don't see the harm in taking her class. You'll have some fun.
Enjoyable professor! Uses anecdotes to clarify concepts, which I found to be very helpful. Tests are hard but it's economics so…
