Baruch finally got something right with this professor! I love her! she is amazing! the nicest lady at Baruch! even tho she is asian, her english is great! better then most American professor! textbook not necessary, as she will provide notes! and exams are identical to notes!im so happy I took her TAKE HER you will learn a lot and get a good grade
She has amazing notes! Pay attention in class; she gives hints as to what she will test you on! Use her notes and homeworks to study for her exams. Class is not easy, but you will learn a lot from her. Definitely recommend!
probably the most caring person I have ever met.. she is amazing.. take her, she will make you love accounting.!!
Great Professor. The notes are really helpful and I actually learn in her class. Drop's hints sometimes which is helpful. Pay attention.
she is so clear and explains everything swarovski clear. Her handouts are all you need she gives you examples, and prepares you for the test. She tells you where students mistakes are made so you can be aware of it before the test and not make them. She is responsible and approachable and fair. I'd recommend to take her 100%
Here's the deal, 2 midterms and a Final (cumulative). Mix of M.C and computational. If I can give just one piece of advice, do not underestimate the exam no matter what. Very nice lady. You will learn a lot. I would recommend her.
I admire her for making the exams "difficult" by making exams mostly not multiple choice forcing more than half the class to drop out. It demonstrates how many of the accounting wannabes in Baruch aren't committed into the field but rather for the money and career opportunities.
do good notes then midterns will be easy, Final is very ..... very hard. time pressure
her classes are boring and long. lectures aren't clear and confusing. makes mistake herself a lot of times. do not recommend unless you absolutely have to.
Yes, her notes are fantastic but she makes mistakes often. She skips some parts of the material to save time, but this is not helpful. Flies through the materials, but that's not her fault. She is clear in explaining her notes though. Tests are harder than the examples given in class and in homework.. She's an OK professor, but wish I took another
If you want to ace this class, it's easy. No surprises on the test if you pay attention and attend class. Attend class, listen to her hints, follow the conceptual steps to the problems Easy A. Requires 30-40 hours of studying for each exam. Best of luck, Current Student with an A
I absolutely recommend taking a class with Min Shen. Her explanations are crystal clear. Listen for clues during the lectures because she mentions what she may ask on the exam. Take good notes and make sure you know how to solve problems from the notes. No tricks! It was definitely not an easy class, but I truly enjoyed it.
Great teacher, she puts in the best effort to teach you Accounting in a simpler fashion. If you study and PRACTICE her notes, you will do great. She is extremely helpful both in and outside of the class, so take advantage of that. Don't leave studying for the last day. The mid-terms are much easier than the final, so be prepared.
Here's the thing: the best way to pass this class is if you buy the textbook and do all the practice problems that you can. Also, you should go to her lectures and take good notes. The first midterm was a killer but the second midterm and final were fair because I used the book. Overall, she's a good professor, you just have to put in A LOT of work
She's the type of prof you wish you have for all your accounting classes. Fair grader and makes great notes. Her notes are key to getting a good grade. Exams are mixture of multiple choices and long problems. Final was a little more unpredictable. Currently in acc 3100 I wish prof Shen was my prof again.
If you want your fate to be decided in one midterm take her because her 2nd midterm after the dropping date. Beware her first midterm is extremely long no time to complete the whole exam.
HER TESTS ARE STRAIGHT FROM HER LECTURE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! TEXTBOOK IS A WASTE. ACCOUNTING IS HARD ENOUGH, YOU NEED TO PRACTICE BY YOURSELF. BE READY TO STUDY A LOT. SHE LOVES GIVING HARD TESTS, BARUCH ONLY WANTS THE BEST OF THE BEST. DO WELL ON THE FIRST EXAM WHICH IS THE HARDEST, IT WILL PREDICT WHETHER YOU DROP OR NOT. TAKING HER AGAIN B/C I DROP
The first exam was very painful and honestly unfair with the amount of time given. Very detailed notes; occasionally rushes & makes mistakes. However she is willing to answer your questions, sweet person, mentions errors students made in past; try to follow along but it's mostly a self-study course that eats away your energy. harsh exam. gl
Her exams are easy and she will hint on what she will question in exams most of the time so there aren't surprises. One thing you will have to do is to study a lot from the start. At first the course seems easy but it really need a lot of time as she doesn't ask direct questions but tests your familiarity with the subject. Would take again!
bad bad bad, her final exam is killer
final exam was so hard !!!!!!!!!!!
Prof. Min Shen has good commend in English compared to many others. Not PPT, instead uses her own notes to run lectures. You will need to be serious to do well in class. If you are invested in her class, you will learn a lot from her. 2nd exam after the withdraw period. She is nice and good-looking. Wish she teaches higher level accounting classes.
She's not sweet at all. I've been to her office and she will criticize you like no tomorrow if you ask her a question. Her first test is a killer compared to the others. Also, she takes a lot of points off for small mistakes. Her accent is heavy too so it'll be hard understanding her. I worked so hard and still only ended up with a B+. DO NOT TAKE!
Took her because of all the good reviews she had on RMP. Her lectures are clear but there is just way too many material to remember. Her tests are extremely hard. Be prepared to study on your own.
A lot of material to memorize which makes the class difficult. She posts an outline of the notes that you have to fill in so you must attend class to get everything written down. Very tough grader, I scored slightly above average on the 2 midterms and was in the top 5 for the final and still ended up with a B.
I've just started studying for my CPA exams and although I took Shen's class more than 2 years ago, I still remember every little thing she taught us (LT contracts, LCM). Her notes are priceless too. So quit complaining and start studying. It's not going to get any easier at Baruch. She is no doubt one of the best accounting professors at Baruch!
extremely easy professor. Tests were easy. She is a must take professor! only MC, no T/F or short answer. if you want an A-/A take her! Other acc3000 professors are horrible because they are much harder.
I took her last summer. No doubt, summer is quicker than regular semester but its almost like study and work by yourself and come in for the test.
Whats the point of her being a teacher is a majority of what she says is "this should of been covered in your intro class"
her exam are hard a lot of material to memorize !!!!!
We just got the first midterm back and 40% of the class failed. 60% got below a 70. Even though I studied for at least 20 hours, I still did badly. Way too much material to memorize. GPA killer.
If your looking for an A or A- be prepared to put in a lot of hours since her exams are very difficult. She even warns you about it on the first day. But honestly if you really want to learn then take her because her explanations are great and uses lots of real world scenarios.
Take if you have A LOT of free time to study for this class. So much material to memorize. You will spend more time trying to keep up and fill in her notes in class than actually understanding the material. Has somewhat of accent. Very hard.
She's alright. I've learned to review her notes for the quantitive questions on the test, but for understanding concepts I listen to other lectures online. It's not that she doesn't teach the concepts, sometimes she skips parts because she assumes we learned them in intro. I find the explanations of other profs are a lot more simple, too.
It's hard there's a lot of material to memorize but I don't think it's her fault-it's just a hard class. However, I did feel she was fair with my overall grade considering I bombed the 1st midterm and did just decently on the other two exams. You MUST start studying her packets from day one! Keep several copies of each packet and refill them out!
She is a good professor. The class is not so easy, a lot of things you have to study. But it is the same with any prof. and any acc class. She gives you well-structured notes, goes over the problems that you'll see in hw and tests. There is an extra hw which I suggest to do. I got an A and never even opened a book.
2 midterms and 1 final - Not Easy Course. Save time from other courses to study this course, Understand the tricks involved in questions. I spent huge amount of time to study this course.
She's tough. So is the accounting program. She'll make you work for what you get and for sure make you a better student and accountant. There may be easier professors, but i doubt there are better. Getting an a from her will be hard, but a Stay in the top 40% and you'll have a B.
3exams&few HW. You'll be fine, as long as you focus on the lecture notes and understand all the examples. Reply to your email timely. Very kind professor.
Her class was very difficult. I wouldn't take her class with another accounting course because you need to focus on her class the most. Lots of packets and I never had time to finish studying all the material. Her class gave me terrible anxiety to be honest. definitely a class that will "weed out" people not fit to be accounting majors.
I think a good professor should inspire, encourage and motivate students, and make the material connect with the real world, make the course more interesting and enjoyable. Shes very organized with lecture, but less explaination and enlightenment. financial acc3000 is just the beginning, i wish she could have simplified the course, step by step
Acc at Baruch is tough so you will have to work hard for your grade. I think her lecture notes explain most of the topics necessary for the exams. She doesn't take attendance but I recommend you to go b/c her note packets have blanks spaces for examples or explanations that she will fill in during class.
It's the hardest course I have ever took during my college life. If you choose this professor, be ready to go extra miles and do extra exercise in order to get decent grade. Test bank is recommended for the exam. Final is cumulative. Exam question is not easy. Lecture is heavy in my opinion. However, you will definitely learn a lot from this course
When she was like "I can give maximum 20% of A- and A, but I can give less than that if I want, maybe 5% or 10%." Indeed, she gave 1% of A- and A. And the rest 99% is B, C, D, F.
Now she was a good professor however if you slack you definitely wont pass the class. That being said I would recommend her because unlike other Acct professors she will actually teach the material. Exams are difficult if you dont prepare fully. Overall she was a fair professor since she tells you her expectations in the first class.
This is a very difficult class, but it is possible to do well. Her notes are very helpful, but also try to read the textbook to gain a more complete understanding of her noted. Try not to slack off. If you stay on top of the material and start studying early, you will do well.
sweet professor, textbook was useless if you read her notes.
ACC 3000 isn't an easy class even though it is the first financial accounting class. However, it is doable in Prof. Shen's class because she prepared helpful and useful lecture notes for us. It is better to have read the textbook ahead before come to the class. Prof. Shen has a very clear class schedule, which made me follow her step much easier.
She did mention that she would be a tough grader from the get-go, but is extremely inflexible. You can email her, but she might not email you back and she's quicker to leave the classroom than most of the class. Be prepared to actually study on your own. "This should have been covered in your intro class" but that was like a year ago+...
She acts like a computer. Her course notes are heavy and very hard to keep continue with her. All the time tou will have to reamin busy to complete her course notes as she post her notes half complete on Bb. If you get below 50 in her xm what maximm 30% students get will tell u to drop. Warns u throughout the sem she is not easy going nd tricks lot
I recommend to avoid her class if you think acc is your dream career because she will change your mind my destroying that dream, sadly this prof doesn't care about students and she has no consideration whatsoever if you are struggling instead of advise she will tell you to drop the class, the exams are very difficult and she explains very fast.
If you don't want to ruin your GPA don't take this class sadly prof Shen doesn't show any consideration or caring for her students and will not help you to pass her class, her exams are difficult and her classes are long and difficult to understand since she explains everything as if she were in a rush, and is the first person to leave the class.
This is a professor that will not help you if you are struggling in her class, sadly her classes are difficult to understand since she makes many wrong calculations and sometimes is confusing. If you got a grade below average in the first exam she will tell you that you failed the whole course do not take this class if it's not your priority.
If you are taking more that 2 classes I recommend not to take this professor since she requires priority you are basically on your own in order to pass her class you need many hours of tutoring and dedication because she will not help you whatsoever and tell you point blank that you will fail without consideration. If you like acc dont take her.
Great professor I hope I never get a professor like this again
Get ready to learn everything on your own. Brings in typed up notes on a word doc and fills things in during the lecture. Goes too fast. Doesn't explain things clearly. Biggest pet peeve is she types up calculations on a word doc. For a class with so many calculations, it's impossible to follow along when all the math is typed in a straight line.

Easily the worst professor Ive ever had.
just hate her. the worst prof i have ever had in my life
she is not helpful at all. it seems she dislikes her students and makes the question extreme hard.
When I decided to take her, there were some positive comments, so I figured I can handle it. Big mistake! Worst professor ever! Please DO NOT take. And if youre still thinking, Ill just try the class and study hard, good luck. You will regret that decision greatly!
even if you give 299 percent afford ther is no surety that you might pass. Fina is comprehensive with almost everything. Doesnt give feedback and tricks 98% of the qs. Will make you depressed and at some point will destroy your life. She is a disappointment. I regret taking her dont let her ruin your life.
Just awful. Dosent help at all and her qs are not doable, super tough. On the final at least 6 stduents took F abd rest if the students suffered. Throughout the sem threatened she would make the qs hard nd kept her words. Incompetent professor.
Pros - D+ got curved to a B- thanks to the ranking curve - A lot of the questions are from a test bank - Gave me one heck of a wake up call Cons - Goes too fast - Types her calculations in a word document or (seriously) MS Paint - Acts annoyed when someone asks her a question or clarification Very sink-or-swim, I should have studied more.
Those who think her class is test bank had a rude awakening when she switches one word and the whole question suddenly changes. Also, I was a straight-A student, however, her teaching style was not for me. She talks too fast, types calculations from her notes, doesn't explain numbers and is incredibly hard to follow. Average test grade high50/low60
She knows all the calculations' answer before class, but she doesn't know her students doesn't know the answer before class. She literally did all the answer extremely fast and make you can't follow her.
I have never had a professor who couldnt careless about her students like miss Shen does, if you ask her for help youre wasting your time and go to tutoring or better drop the class when you can or is an easy F.
This was a horror class to take, the prof wasnt prepare for her own lectures, she made everything impossible to solve and understand in each of the exam it even looked that she hated her students. Do not make the same mistake I did dont take her or drop before the deadly she is not worth your patient
Please avoid this professor for your own sake, this is an automatic F even if you give your 100% you wont be able to pass this class without cheating and studying your brains out because she will not help you or explain what will be on the exams her questions are tricky lectures are boring and confusing
This is my first time writing a review for a professor. Please do NOT TAKE HER CLASS. She does not follow Baruch's curve and it will end your GPA. She does not answer questions regarding grades which means you'll have to go in person. She does not care for the students at all. Despite scoring top 30% of the class, I ended with a C in my final grade
Read the book before the class and focus on her notes before each exam. Then, she uses the Test Bank. If your grade states around the average, you will be fine, specifically, you could get around "B" at your final grade.
This class was def one of the hardest classes I've had at Baruch so far. That being said, the prof did a great job teaching the material. No need to read the textbook, all the test material is based on her lectures and class notes. Best way to study is to do the test bank at least twice before the test. The final is super hard, and hw takes 4 hrs
TBH I personally didn't like her method of teaching she works extremely fast and at times her accent get's in the way. If you someone that learns purely from class notes take, but if you don't and you learn from reading the textbook and doing online homework avoid at all costs because the only way your gonna do well is by reading the class notes.
This will definitely be the class thatll tell you if youre suited to continue in the accounting field. I literally had to drop AIS to solely focus 3 hours a day studying the class notes. Forget about your social life because this will be one heck of a class to manage and if youre not ready to give up whatever it takes then you aint it boss.
Dont take this professor because if you do Ill guarantee you will fail, the professor does not care about you and does not help you when you have a doubt.
she only uses curve when most of the class got high grades. opposite circumstance.... nope. you get what you get. class average of the first midterm exam was 56%. I've got all other business class at least A- and I was like what the hack is this. If you want extra unnecessary challenge, take her class.
She always talks about how hard her class is. In fact, she's confessing how she's bad at teaching
Terrible experience overall. She uses Microsoft Word for notes and lecture?! she makes mistakes on them all the time, and it looks very confusing when there are formulas and explanations written in one line. Coursework is heavy and she skims through it quickly without clarity. straight A's on all ACC classes except for this class, avoid this prof.!
Her accent made it a little difficult to understand the topic when she's explaining examples, but her notes are easy to understand and you can follow along that way. Tests are really hard and long. She tries her best to give you the best grade possible though, for that reason, I'd take her again.
Her teaching isn't good. She tries her best & her notes are ok. Her exam are much more difficult and different from her connect hw and notes. A lot of self-learning to do due to covid. Connect hw can be difficult as it isn't clear on textbook & video. She doesn't give practice test bc she think the students will say why it's different from exam.
Pretty tough to understand. Lectures are really painful. Take the academic vernacular and throw it in a blender and that is how the course is taught. It's profoundly disappointing to have such a sub-par instructor on what should be a critically important foundation. Highly recommend taking another professors class if available.
I was trying to give her the benefit of the doubt but she doesn't do anything to justify it. Lectures each week are these 3.5 hour blocks of her talking really slowly and typing on word. It's so, painful. Even if you do the 1.5, 2x thing, it's still painful. For the data analytics project she said, it's not her job to teach "excel". Thanks prof!
Avoid taking this class with Professor Shen. She doesnt explain when asking for help. Hard to understand her prerecorded lections. Took this class for credit, withdrawed halfway through. She doesnt care about her students at all. Very important material becomes a torture. Want to pass skip taking her.
I was forced to take her class cause lets face it, all the ACC professors suck and you just have to choose the lesser evil. Asynchronous, so she'd post a lecture on YouTube (like almost 2 hrs long) for each chapter that was based off her personal notes. 2 Midterms and a departmental final. If there's another option, please take it. Don't take her.
she is very strict and careless professor ever. The mid term and Final are have a very limited amount of time. I prepared my Final for two weeks to reviewing all the notes and lectures she posted, but I still got a bad grade. The test are all online, She doesn't care if you have successfully log in to the system, there is nothing she can do.
Look its not her fault the department makes the hws and the exams completely different from each other. So it's honestly hard for her to prepare for us for the exams. Try to find past exams or sample questions as they helped me a lot. Important note, she curved A LOT, she gave way more As and A- than she was supposed too, I went from a B to an A-.
ACC 3000 is a hard class and Shen is a decent prof. Her lecture note handouts are good and the lectures are a bit long and were honestly a pain. Grade: HW 12.5%, Data analytics project 2.5%, Midterm 1+2 50%, final 35%. Hw are nothing like lecture or test questions. She gives a very generous curve, went from B+ to A, another went from a C+ to B+.
Class was in person but she provided a zoom link to use. Tests were open book, from home, and definitely not like the homework. Less about journal booking and more about understanding terms and calculations. She doesn't lecture. Class would be much more difficult if she didn't allow for open book. Good course if you want to pass, not learn.
Not the best professor if you actually want to learn about accounting. She doesn't answer questions clearly, instead she'd make you seem like you didn't pay attention that's why you didn't understand. Tests were online and mostly conceptual. Overall, I didn't really study for it but I think the class wasn't too bad if you understood the concepts/hw
She has two midterms and one final exam. She doesn't have any curve. For one of the midterm, she gave 40 calculation problems for multiple choice. No true/false problems. Only 100 mins for 40 calculation problems. The time is not enough. PLEASE DON'T TAKE HER CLASS! SHE IS A GPA KILLER!! (it's my first time write professor review, please trust me)
She is not answering anything you ask. She only tells you to look at the recording that she put on blackboard. Not teaching anything during the class. She taught the exercises during class time, not the concepts about the chapters. Need you to take lots of your personal time to study. Don't think you can learn anything from her.
I took this course ASYNCH with pre-recorded lectures. 11 HW (1 drop), 2 midterms + final + Excel project. ALL ONLINE AT HOME. Do not expect a curve because online savvy people will get high grades. She respond to emails as long as it's not begging for extra credit. Maintains strict fair grading policy. Great for GPA bad for learning. Got an Easy A.
Don't take her if you want a good grade or learn well! She doesn't care about the student, not even uploading necessary material on Blackboard. She posts the grade to Cuny first without letting students communicate with her about the final grade. The three exams have a lot of calculation questions and a time limit which is super hard.
Legit best option among the accounting professors. she's not a tough grader. Tests online open book . Homework multiple attempts. Presentations effort based. Idk why ppl are complaining if you do the work it's legit fine. Yeah you prob won't really learn too much but let's be real ppl want the A and it isn't hard to get it with her
By far easiest in the accounting department. Also seems really sweet as a lady. The vast majority of these negative reviews are talking about her being hard to email but there are two teaching assistants to reach. First time rate my professor came out opposite for me than what I saw
She is such a gem and honestly a fun class . Half of it is presentations in groups , the other is the
She is such a nice lady. The course is a lot but the tests are online and half of the class consists of group presentations the other a lecture . It honestly is an easy A if you do the work.
