For any of those who do not like her do not belong in this class because she is an awwesome prof and using real life examples for us to understand... i am glad this is my major with her teaching it....
AWESOME PROF!! Dr. Foster's lectures are interesting, and she is easy to listen to. She has excellent class notes, and really knows what she's talking about. She answers questions without making students feel stupid. My favourite class by far...
A nice teacher, her classes are funny but she does seem to have some bias against men that I have noticed. Still a fun class though, it's very informative since I'm just taking it as an elective and have little interest in psychology.
I think she's an awesome prof! she uses overheads for notes, uses real life examples.. i really like her :)
Dr. Foster knows her stuff and is an above average professor. Could use powerpoint to make lectures more interactive and easy on the eyes.
Dr. Foster is my FAVOURITE prof at laurier! She explains things so well and really cares about whether the students understand...i.e asks for head nods, always answers any questions, etc. She's funny and personable, and she makes psychology interesting!

Excellent course to take with Dr. Foster. She made me want to go to class everyday. She kept it interesting!
She's hilarious and actually writes notes on the board...very personable but talks about dogs wayyy too much

I love the overheads she uses. I find them very useful and always gives good realistic examples when teaching.
Such a cute woman. I never went class and my mark reflected it. However the three times did go I always love her optimistic look on life. What a cutie!!!
what a cutey pie! shes so sweet and funny..and her lectures rock..very interesting..notes r awesome on the web..what can i say..i totally love the class..keep up the good work! PS-all the guys think shes a hottie..and yeah ..she totally is!
I loved hearing about her dogs!! She's like Pavlov...
I loved how she did her notes. They really help and she always gives clear examples
I was one of the few guys taking femminist psychology. It turned out to be a favourite class that semester, because of her. Marked the final project awful hard, though!
She is THE BEST prof in Laurier campus! I loved her! I loved the way she taught, her notes were organized, and most of all she was FUN! she was never a dull moment! she makes the lectures more interesting then the txt book! Best prof, if you have her as a prof, stick with her! Highly recomended! =)
this prof is unreal! she's funny and keeps everything interesting, consider yourself lucky!
solid prof
Aww.. she's so cute! I love her... <3
Excellent prof. Favorite class. Friendly.
I used to like her but she isn't very accomodating and can get rally moody
Excellent Prof! Clear, interesting & fun... fun course, fun prof...
adds much interest to the topics at hand, just dont be noisy in her class :) (and yeah, definately hot)
One of the best Psych profs at WLU. She made a full year class fresh and interesting each day. Also the exams were pretty easy. Too bad there were not more like her.
The multiple choice tests were hard but the class was enjoyable. Some people thought mindi treated the students like grade 2's.. I like her teaching style. She was very responsive to questions and emails.
The most amazing proff at Laurier!!!! You get so much out of each class. She is very clear and well organized. I learn so much and fully understand each lecture.
I would never take a class with Mindi again. She is not very accomodating and gets very moody. I don't think she enjoys coming to class to teach, and she's not very helpful. If would take this class with Morgenson if I had the chance to do it over again. The class material is interesting, and her exams are alright... pretty easy if you've studied.
Mindi Foster was a GREAT first year psych prof! Very clear, made everything seem really simple and straightforward, used relevant examples, and tried to get everyone involved as much as she could. If you attend lectures, you're bound to end up with at least a B. If you read the textbook and go to lectures, you'll get an A or A+ guaranteed!
Excellent teacher! She makes class interesting and covers the material thoroughly and actually uses the text book. Shes kinda cute to boot =].
Really interesting. Good examples. Funny.
Dr. Foster is very approachable and her lectures are interesting. The lectures follow the text chapters nearly to a T so attendance is not mandatory, but she does use IClickers which count for a portion of the grade. The tests and final exam are multiple choice.
Very good prof. always organized for lectures and explains the concepts of the course with a great deal of clarity. I would take other classes taught by her if given the chance.
Mindo had absolutely no concern for her students. She was sarcastic and rude. I would NEVER recommend taking a course she teaches. I was too late to withdraw, sadly... She relates all psych to her dogs and peanut butter cups. I AM SO DISCOURAGED AND FRUSTRATED. NEVER EVER AGAINNN
No idea what the comment below me is about! She's extremely funny & easy going! Whenever I had a question she'd help me figure it out & followed up with me. Her lecture overheads are every clear & she tells a lot of personal funny stories which makes the content easy to remember. I would love to have her as a prof again! Tests are fair enough too.
Mindi Foster is god. I went from an arts student to psych all because of her, she related everything back to the real world, got personal with us by using family experiences and always cracked jokes! She did make it clear Ps100 was not what she would chose to teach but she did fabulous! Her slides will forever be helpful:)
lazy, gives a bad name to professors and is never there.
Awesome teacher. She was really clear in all her lectures She is really helpful and very approachable.
super nice and teaches really well
In terms of teaching was a good prof but I just could not stand going to her lectures. Her personality really put me off. She`s nice, though, and knowledgeable. And hot!
She was a great prof for psych. Knew her stuff and was able to give relatable examples when talking. Although it may have been annoying at first, the overheads she uses end up being better than power points bc they keep you alert, and busy writing down her additional notes instead of sitting there following along, almost falling asleep. MC exams!!
She is really boring, she uses overheads and I found it a lot more useful to read the textbook even when I went to every lecture.
Adored her as a prof. Knew her stuff, overhead notes were helpful (even though annoying at first, as stated below). Gave great examples. Made class interesting. Exams are all MC and straight from the text, however going to class helps alot too (because of her examples). Switched into her class for 102 b/c I liked her teaching style so much.
Foster knows her stuff. Plain and simple. And this comes out through how she uses overheads. Best method for teaching, I wish all my profs did notes the way she does. They're easy to follow, concise and easy to remember, because of how engaging it is. If you have the choice, take foster, by far.
EXCELLENT PROF. ONE OF THE BEST
AMAZING KEEP IT UP!!!!
PS101 is definitely not a bird course. She was an amazing prof who had clear explanations and was willing to answer questions and have discussions. During the fall 2011 term, her dogs were sick and she was not here ALL the time. That was the only down side. There was a sub. prof, but she wasn't as good. The exams are not easy, as I did bad in them.
Awesome as a prof, clear explanations. But not a good academic advisor. Doesn't bother meeting up with you when you need help.
Used overheads, which were concise and easy to follow. Used a lot of personal examples which help, most of which were about her dogs. Missed the last month so we got stuck with substitute prof's...
She's a really great prof, tried to keep the content interesting by using humour and her overhead slides were very clear and to the point. The only negative thing was the she was away for 3 weeks because she kept injuring herself
Dr. Foster was an amazing prof; she was really helpful and didn't hesitate to answer questions when students had them. She made psychology 101 very fun, but she was away for 3 weeks due to injury, so it got confusing at the end because we didn't have a consistent substitute; kept changing. Overall, a wonderful prof for a usually boring class.
Do not like her as a prof and I seem to keep getting stuck with her due to too many students in psych. Talks about herself a ridiculous amount... I just find her incredibly annoying. She also is not helpful one bit and if you email or ask her for help she will just blow you off.
Great prof! The lectures flew by. Also, her hair looks like ramen noodles. 4 for you mindi, you go mindi!
Good prof. took things slow which is usually good and was often good just sometimes one example is enough. Made things very clear. In doing so i found the class seemed to last forever. All in all good prof.
She writes all over her slides and it is very confusing to follow. She does use a lot of example though which helps
this rude prof only cares about her dog and fails to actually care about teaching her students. She could a least bring her dog into class and let us play with him if she was going to talk and obsess about him all class . Her notes are horrible and her handwritting hurts my heart.
Love Foster's way of teaching. The way she teaches made me more interested in the material that she was teaching. Now I want to minor in this Psych!
Great prof, giving"skeletons" for students to write notes on in Microsoft Word before class, then writing notes on the slides on her IPad during class keeps the pacing appropriate and makes it very hard to miss information unless you really aren't paying attention. Always cheerful, and gives an abundance of examples that solidify the ideas
Awesome prof, but her lecture notes or "skeletons" are awful. She uses a stylus and writes points down on an iPad... so not good for anyone who has a hard time reading handwriting. Make sure you read the textbook, considering she covers 34 of each chapter MAX in lecture.
I love Mindi! She gives many examples to aid your understanding of the material in unique ways. She's also funny, quirky and knows her stuff. I would recommend her to anybody. I tried to teach myself some of the material but it wasn't as effective of going to class and actively listening to her lecture.
Really engages the students in the lectures which make them go by quicker. Her style of having skeleton slides but filling them in as she progresses through the lecture is good as well because you're made to pay attention but don't have to do too much writing. She is friendly and approachable, and wishes the best for her students.
Her notes are messy and are not recommended for use to study with really, so you need to make your own from the hefty textbook. Overall, she's a decent prof that does show good examples in class at least. Didn't really like that she used her sister for so many examples in class tho...
Favourite prof! Provides great examples in class, cracks jokes which keeps you more interested. Also writes the notes along with you so you're not rushing to catch everything she says. Apply readings to things talked about in class easy A on tests. Grade on participation quizzes online don't matter as long as you complete them
good prof except the fact that notes arent clear (liam)
Dr. Foster is pretty funny and has a big personality. Her notes that she posts online have stuff that needs to be filled in in class, and the formatting isn't the greatest - it's best to bring your own notebook and take your own notes. This course is not hard, just do the online practice quizzes and you'll be fine.
I've never had a prof who's encouraged and made it so easy to do well in a course before. She made everything easy to digest and showed on a daily basis that she really cared about each of the students in her lectures and genuinely wanted all of us to succeed!! would HIGHLY recommend taking any of her lectures
I think Dr. Foster is, in other courses, a pretty good prof. She is fair, helpful, and wants her students to do well. Regarding the third year stats courses, however, it's a different story. Lectures were complex, long, and dull, and Dr. Foster frequently tried to engage the class by asking questions, which would be met with a long, awkward silence
Had her for PS-394 (Linear Models), which is apparently the only class she's awful at teaching. Criteria was so specific and tough, and material was very tedious. Otherwise, the class isn't too difficult - but shes frustrating to listen to, and kind of all over the place, which makes a difficult course even harder.
Assignments are really easy as long as you follow her lecture & the lab instructions. Tests are very specific, but if you study and memorize the biggest concepts you should be okay. Honestly she's not as people say but you do have to put in some effort for an A.
Email responses were vague and responses always felt forced. Avoid if possible. If not, you can manage through, but try to switch.
Not the best communicator.
Dismissed my concerns. Not professional most of the time. Lots of reading,.,
poor listener, and I dont understand why she dismissed my email, no responses, tells you a lot. The subject was interesting though
Does not seem to care about students success. We have a whole group chat complaining about her. She's more paranoid about potential cheating than helping those who are not doing well in the course. Does not give proper feedback after exams and assignments. We found her twitter and tik tok that she uses to bash her students. Not professional.
This professor relies on you reading the textbook in its entirety and memorizing every small detail. Tests are hard and not much time given. However, the class was manageable. Not my favourite psych prof.
Her slides are useless, you need to memorize the entire textbook word for word or else you're gonna do bad. This is the laziest way to teach a class, got a warning saying I was cheating because I didn't have a mirror available to me. Thanks for making me want to never take another psych course again and screwing up my gpa.
Made difficult concepts easy to understand. Cares for her students. Super friendly and so easy to approach. Yes, you got to work hard - I think she wants you to become an independent learner which I appreciate. Tests key concepts from lecture. Although reading the textbook is helpful, it is not necessary. Just make sure to attend lecture.
Such a friendly prof, who is super easy to approach. Breaks down complicated concepts and makes them easier to understand. You won't have to do any math in this class. Tests mainly key concepts from lecture, multiple choice and short answer. Reading the textbook is helpful but not necessary (there isn't much to read). Just make sure to attend class
Pretty much the worst online prof I have ever had. Gave no form of review or any indication of key concepts that would be tested. Did not return/review tests afterwards leaving students unsure of what they got right or wrong. For these reasons I felt completely unprepared going into the final exam.
Mixed feelings. When it comes to delivering content, Foster is a great prof. Concepts are explained clearly and thoroughly. However, she provides little to no feedback on homework assignments/tests, and is very unprofessional when communicating with students. She is not as bad as others make her out to be, but she definitely could also improve.
Mindi Foster is a great professor, she breaks down difficult concepts and does not move forward with learning until all questions are answered and understood. She is very easy to get a hold off outside the classroom. She intends to make lectures fun and engaging. Her tests and hw assignments are straight out of her lecture notes.
I find Dr Foster to be an extremely intelligent professor and she has laid out the course to learn all the content effectively. I find her tests to be difficult so study for them. Only thing I would change is the style of her notes. The notes can be sloppy at times and all over the place. For me I like them organized
My main issue with Professor Foster was that she gave zero review content. I had no idea what to expect for tests. She gave no information about anything. Also, her lessons are useless. Near the end of the course, I realized that the tests were based ONLY on the textbook. So make sure to memorize the textbook chapters if you want to do well.
I literally got an A+ in this course, but it had nothing to do with the prof. All I did was read the textbook, and do the tests which were all multiple choice and directly based on the textbook (her weird written "lectures" provided no info the textbook didn't already). She was really a useless prof, but you can still get a very high grade easily.
Dr. Foster made statistics way more digestible and easy to understand than usual. Her lectures are very well planned, her notes allow u to follow along and really understand the content. Genuinely cares ab students, asked for our feedback a lot. Tests require really understanding of content, but assignments are easy if you follow her notes!
Extremely kind when replying to emails and very helpful! She gave many opportunities for bonus marks! Marks came from tests ( 2 midterms & a final) and discussions. Her notes can be scattered but her content and tests are based out of the textbook so I relied on the textbook & textbook chapter summaries the most. Excited to take more with her!
Confusing & abstract course structure. Students expected to learn material independently, in lectures we meet w/ group members. Multiple things due per wk. Little concrete course delivery. Purposefully writes confusing test questions. Students are tested less on knowledge of material & more on how they would word explanations of material to others.
Dr. Foster is great at what she does. I really appreciated that she made the course hybrid and recorded the videos as the content can get confusing. There's just a lot to remember during this course and it can get overly complicated at times. But if you can stick to it it's not too difficult.
Dr. Foster is a very knowledgeable prof. However, because it is stats, I wish that she was a bit more hands-on. She doesn't really teach us, it's very individual learning. I did appreciate the hybrid approach however. She also gave us many opportunities to do well in the course. Group work isn't the most ideal though.
Amazing prof! Her feedback is amazing and she is always available during office hours for more feedback! She really cares about student success. If you can get a class with her I definitely would recommend it!
Least helpful professor I've come across. Online "lessons" were extremely minimal, and test content was solely based on long and bland textbook readings. I'm sick of paying thousands of dollars to teach myself. Do yourself a favor and opt for the in-person class.
Although it is very textbook heavy, the course itself gives a lot of flexibility. The midterms are hard with no enough time but she gives a free 5% after if you complete a post midterm quiz with unlimited attempts. For the assignments she is an easy grader, if you want to do well on the mid term and exam get ready to study the entire textbook.
The course is easy, the professor is not great. She is quite sensitive with her claim of "how the scientific review process would affect my self-esteem", which is obviously her own problem. Although she certainly did use her self-esteem that day to grade people's assignments. Nonetheless, the course is easy because midterm and exam are online.
she overcomplicates everything for no reason. Very confusing expectations. there is a million things posted at once and you have no idea what to look at first because she overwhelms you with unimportant information. Horrible teaching style. dont take her class unless its mandatory
The class is heavily textbook-based, but with some flexibility. Midterms are challenging, but the professor offers extra credit opportunities. For good grades, be prepared to thoroughly study the textbook. Unstuckstudy can be a helpful study tool alongside your readings.
Worst prof I've ever had in my last four years of university. She overcomplicates everything for no reason, her lectures aren't even lectures, she just says random words and expects you to follow everything she's saying. Gives zero explanations in her "lectures" all she does is scribble on the page
teaches spss through 2020 pre-recorded lecture videos without detailed instructions in the second half of the course. Prepare to self study. I hope you have an ipad to scribble along while watching the videos
The amount of good reviews feels like propaganda. If you have to take PS395, take it with someone else but you probably won't have a choice. Her notes are so awful to look at that it feels like she does it on purpose to overcomplicate things the way she does with the wording on her quizzes.
she doesn't teach; you watch pre-recorded videos, then come to class to answer questions with your group or work on group assignments. content is sometimes wrong or made up (i.e., she'll say "but that's not how it works IRL"). lots of busy work (2 quizzes per week, biweekly graded self- and peer- evaluations). very vague explanations and feedback.
Very unprofessional. If you are not on the Laurier Waterloo campus she won't even acknowledge your campus. She changed the structure of on online asynchronous exam a month into the course to be on paper, in person and don't bother asking which campus it will be taking place on because her response will just be the Laurier campus. How helpful.
Very vague, to the point you are unsure of what's relevant information and what's just random word dump to make the lectures look long and in depth. Upcoming exam has no information, no clue if it's cumulative or the last couple chapters. Prof now refuses to answer any more exam related emails....?
Doesn't seem to care about her students unfortunately. Her test questions are wordy and many have errors.
genuinely the worst bro 😭 absolute nonsense half of her lectures, and gives NO help studying for tests, and is super rude and condescending if you ask her questions.
Just take 101 with a different prof. Her lecture style barley helps you understand the content and her examples most of the time are just flat out weird. When people ask her questions she's condescending. Overall, she's not the worst, however if its a required course for your program than don't take it with her.
The lectures are USELESS. All the midterms and final were solely on the textbook. Basically if she taught it in class, then you can ignore it for the midterm/final.
Lectures were useless, went from 800 ppl at the start of the year to like >100 ppl by November. exams are solely textbook based, whatever she says in lecture you can 99.9% ignore. Very easy to do well though if you just take notes from the textbook and do the learning activities and other minor quizzes.
Her lectures are useless and horrible. She has no review content or advice for exams, and her exam questions are odd and challenging. You will do well if you read the textbook, but the textbook is insanely wordy and hard to read. She also doesn't post her filled-out lecture notes or have any slideshows in lecture or post-lecture for review
The lectures are actually useless she does not teach anything... theres no review material you have to learn the entire textbook on your own if you want to do somewhat well in the class!
barely teaches in lecture, mid terms and exams not hard, if you don't read the textbook though then you're cooked. You'll have to teach yourself mostly everything.
Not sure why other reviews say her lectures are useless, given that her midterm and exam are a mix of the textbook and lecture, with some questions being specifically from the lecture. I performed much better on the second midterm when I studied BOTH her lecture and textbook. Compared to the other PS101 profs, many people agree she's much easier.
doesn't care about students and has bad attitude. straight up told us not to ask her questions. lectures are pointless, rambles on about reece's pieces chocolate. like there was questions about them on the midterm and final. she also makes odd sexual jokes that are uncomfortable to sit through. don't take the class if not mandatory.
She can be somewhat unorganized and occasionally goes off on tangents that feel unnecessary, but she is very understanding. As long as you complete the basic requirements, it is very manageable to pass the course.
