She's really fair and uses PowerPoint mostly. Everything you need to read she posts on the Aces. Do the readings and pay attention in class and you will get an A. There are no tests or quizzes, only 2 papers, 3 question packets that are answered in class, and one other grade that you can get a 100 on for just showing up!
I've never been interested in history until I took her course. I'll be taking her for US History 2 this summer. Her course is packed full of info but the way she presents it makes things easy. Highly recommend her!!
I am currently taking her in a Maymester which are normally difficult with homework everyday but she is super easy. The midterm and final are take home, you have to do one presentation and one essay (2 pages double spaced). It is very easy and she greades easy. I would take her again.
very nice lady, helps when you needed and very understanding. Great teacher keeps class interesting.
Took her maymester course. Made History interesting. I would recommend this professor any day. Doesn't hurt that she's pretty either!
all you do in the class is review her powerpoints. when i took her class you had to write three papers 2 pages long, and that was it. just show up and watch powerpoints. made an "A"
I took her for maymester, thinking this class would be hard. But this class is an Easy A. She had power points when teaching, take home test, one presentation with a paper 2 page doubles spaced. We also watched interesting movies in there class that helped us get a concept of what she was teaching. There is no reason why any one would fail her class
Excellent class. Easy work. Comprehension question which she reviews with you in class. Best two of three papers.
Loved this class! Really you have to be dumb to fail..such a sweet lady too! You can tell she really loves history and knows what she's talking about. Just go to class, do your questions, and turn in all unit paperwork and easy A!
She is great. Just do your reading and assignments and 2 short papers of 2pgs and you will be just fine.I would take her again if she taught 1302 history.
If you attend every class you will get an A for sure. All she does is 3 sets of comprehension questions(about 100 questions each), but we review it in class while going through power points. No textbook is required. You have to turn in 1 3-5 page paper. Midterm test is a take home test and so is the final. Has extra credit too.
This was a pretty easy History class. I took her for 1301 and I got an A. Just show up to class,do your group presentation, answer the packet questions which are given in class, and do your take home tests. There was no book so everything was done on a powerpoint. She was very easy to talk to, and really sweet.
Loved this teacher! She was so sweet and helped you on anything. Work was easy and she made it interesting because she really injoyed talking about the subject. she always made the stories intersting and the tests were easy easy take home tests. only two papers and she didnt grade very harshly. Would deffinently recomend her class.
Great teacher, and very helpful.
She instructs by powerpoint, gives a large packet of comprehension questions which she answers during class, assigns one group project, and two major papers. She doesn't grade hard and is helpful if you need it. Excellent teacher!
I really really enjoyed this class. After recently returning to college after 17 years, she was a professor that lets you work at your pace. Just do your work and follow with the syllabus and you'll get an A. I highly recommend her class!!
She teaches through Powerpoint. Need to complete three 100 question packet taken from information on Powerpoint lectures, two essay papers and two tests and one oral presentation. Her class was very interesting and I really enjoyed it. Taking her for HIST 1302. Take her class you won't be disappointed!!
The best teacher and class ever. She is very helpful. She made the class very interesting. I will recommend her to anyone. I will take her again for 1302.
I was worried about this class; only because I don't really like history, but this instructor was easy to understand and was very helpful. her class was lead by powerpoint and was easy to get work done.
Mrs. Sitterud is one of the best teachers ever. We had two tests, one presentation, two easy papers and two 100 questions questioner. Her class is a power point so you do not need a book. Her class was very informative. I enjoyed her classes very much. I also took her for HIST 1301 spring 2013 and I got an A. Take her you will not be disappointed.
Mrs. Sitterud is one of the best teachers ever. I totally recommend her. You will not be disappointed.
She's very nice and and a fairly easy teacher. 2 tests, 2 essays, 3 100-question packets, quite a few comprehension reading assignments. Easy work, but her class is very hard to stay interested in. If you are better at self-studying, take this class and study the power points on your own time because she her voice can get to be a bit much...
I loved having Mrs. Sitterud as a professor. She's very passionate about what she teaches and she is extremely knowledgable on everything she talks about. She's very good and helping you individually if you don't understand something. Everything she teaches and all assignments are written in her syllabus so you always know what to expect.
She was very knowledgeable, you can really tell that she loves history. You have an assignment due every week. She gives 3 essays where only 2 are mandatory and at the time they are due so will a packet of questions that you answer in class. She TALKS ALOT and only teaches with PowerPoint. Other than that the class is really easy.
Easy A class. She talks a lot and can veer off the subject at times, but just show up for the attendance grade and pass. There is quite a few homework assignments but they are all online and self explanatory. Her tests were take home tests and she assigns 2 papers per semester. Very passionate about History and get ready for PowerPoint lectures.
Friendly & fair grader. If sitting in a dark room watching powerpoints and listening to lectures puts you to sleep I would not recommend - otherwise all the homework you can answer simply by paying attention. All files are on Canvas, too so u can review. A couple essays. No textbook! She loves history & it shows. Would absolutely take her again
She teaches off PowerPoint and posts the PowerPoints online, I kind of felt like I was taking an online course at the school, which I kinda didn't like. Anyway, she was a nice lady and the class was easy. She gives take home tests & always offers extra credit.
very annoying teacher. She sits on her phone for the first 5 minutes of class then starts calling attendance. She then just reads straight from her power points and repeats herself over and over. She also says "umm" every other word. The homework assignments weren't hard, just a lot to do. Only two essays. Had two 100 questions lecture assignments
She's alright. Good news is that she gives extra credit and the course isn't that hard. Bad news is that she demands the students to read multiple assignments and excerpts from many difficult to understand books. The way she speaks is also annoying, and she really pounds her opinion into your head. If you want a teacher who is objective, then pass.
Mrs. Sitterud is a very nice lady. Her class was not hard at all. As long as you show up and do the lecture notes, also the weekly homework you will be fine. There are 3 quizzes. 2 come with essays but it's only 2 pages for both.
Class is fairly easy as long as you do your work. Class is Mandatory if you want to pass. You also need it for the lectures. Just do the work and class is not hard.
Easy class, easy work Her lectures were an everyday thing, and she uses the word "Um" And " Like" way too much. It throws off the flow. I wouldn't take her again. If you're looking for an easy class, I'd take this one. Just know it's a lot of words but she grades more on completion. No final exam.
Professor Mindi is great! Show up to class every day ready to hear her lectures. Keep up with your lecture questions and make sure to complete your weekly homework assignments. She grades homework assignments based off completeness so, as long as you make an effort, you got a 100! We had 3 take home quizzes, 2 essays, 1 five page paper & NO FINAL!
Such an easy class! As long as you show up, answer the lecture questions, do the weekly homework, youre almost guaranteed an A. The textbook isnt required, she uploads the weekly readings into Canvas. Exams are take home. You can tell shes really passionate about history.
Lecture based class but its really not bad. You do have to fill out lecture questions which you will turn in midway and then again at the end of the semester but they're easy plus she uploads the slides from the lectures. HW is graded off completion. 3 quizzes and a paper if you need extra credit which you shouldn't if you just show up and do HW.
Great teacher. She definitely knows her stuff. There isn't much work, you do lecture questions that show your participation, and 3 quizzes over the semester.
This professor talks way too much during her lectures, and you will live off of her super long power points. There are multiple weekly assignments. She does not care to synthesize information. Her voice is annoying. There is constant note taking during each lecture from what she talks about.
shes pretty dry, mostly just reads straight off the powerpoint
Honestly, I don't see why she has so many bad reviews! There is NO FINAL for this course and she only grades on attendance (plug in headphones and you're good) , 3 take home quizzes, hw (completion grade) and lecture questions. The lecture questions are straight from the slides she posts online and she mostly grades for completion! PLS TAKE HER!!
You have homework questions due every other week, 2 sets of lecture questions, and 3 different quizzes that are done at home, 1 paper, and no final exam. You don't have to buy any books because she posts all the reading on Canvas. She is very sweet and helpful. The only thing I didn't like was that she said "umm" often.
No final, all quizzes are take-home, only one essay. Super easy homework which is the majority of your grade. She covers everything you need to know for a quiz in her lectures. Take this professor, you won't regret it for sure
She's super chill and really understanding. Homework is due once a week and she posts all lectures online so you won't miss anything. All her classes are lecture based and she has a packed of lecture questions due but its super easy because if you don't finish, all lectures are online.
I've never been more interested in learning history before. She's a great teacher and it is obvious she loves teaching and is very passionate about history. 10/10
This is a real college course not a glorified high school course. Those who complain about reading & lectures should rethink the decision to be in college. Shes a phd. She knows her stuff. Every class is like storytime. I loved how she related history to the present. She is respectful. Its not a hard class to pass but dont expect an easy A.
I loved Professor Sitterud! She is so knowledgeable about history and the world. I always hated history in high school but she made it interesting . I would definitely take her class again.
3 quizzes, weekly homework, lecture notes, group discussions, writing assignments. Not hard, not easy. The teacher is social and seems to repect everyone. She makes history more interesting
Miss Mindi is great professor. If you do the homework & come to class, you will probably pass. Shell make you work for an A though. I liked the lectures . I learned something new and interesting every lecture. We did group work but I didnt find it as beneficial. The quizzes are take home. I do recommend Miss Mindi
I know its a lecture class, but ALL she does is talk from start to finish. Theres no class engagement whatsoever, no group projects or discussions/activities. Its so hard to even stay awake let alone pay attention to lectures. I wish I had better things to say because I was really excited about this professor at the beginning of the semester :(
This was not an easy class but she is fair and she provides opportunities to make up points. I learned a ton! Very interrsting. She is knowlegable and explained why things in history are important.
I learned a lot from Ms Mindi. She is very knowledgable about history and things today. The tests are hard but she lets you do extra credit to make up points. Youll work for the B and A but I dont know how anyone fails this class. Great professor!
One of the two best classes Ive taken at Vista. Mindi is overeducated for this job! She tells you on day one if you come to class, do the work, and put an honest effort into your learning experience, you will pass. I found this to be true. I didnt get the A but I did earn a B and learn a lot about America.
Awesome lessons. Best history class every taken!
Second course from Mrs Mindi. She is a great professor! Very nice and approachable. Very intelligent. Willing to help if you fall behind. Only a slacker would struggle to pass. You will have to work for the A tho.
The course involves lecture, discussion, group activities, reading assignments, & take home quizzes. Unless you just slack off & dont come to class, I dont know how anybody gets a bad grade & becomes jaded. I found the lessons always interesting. She also teaches at Incarnate Word and has a doctorate degree. Yeah, its a real college class!
1st class w/Dr Sitterud and I wish she was teaching more than 1301 next semester. I was never interested in history until this class. I dont think it was hard. Well, maybe the quizzes were but she has extra credit. Just do the homework, go to class, & do the ec if u need it. I loved the lectures because she tied things to today. Super nice lady!
I liked this class. I missed a lot because of work but it was always interesting when I made it. She tried to help me catch up. Shevemailed to check in. I just couldnt catch up on my homework. Im retaking next semester. Super chill and nice professor.
Good class. I recommend.
3 quizzes, notes, reading assignments, attendance. If you miss, the powerpoints are posted. 5 star class. No complaints.
I was one of Ms Mindis students at UIW last fall. I loved her early US class. She stressed human stories & how complex history really is with like different experiences, viewpoints, & motives. She tied in relevance with present issues. I didnt find her grading too rigid. She expects attendence, completed work & progress but shes not a ballbreaker
Shes a good professor. I feel like I learned a lot and I wasn't too bogged down with work. Shes very nice and knows alot about history
History 2 was a great course. I learned a tremendous amount of history. She made it interesting and important by showing how it related to things happening today. Everyone should take this course
Mind blown. As a retired military nontrad, Im embarred to say I had no idea about many topics covered by this class. Prof Mindi has really brought home where America took some bad turns and the uphill battle we face to turn it around & tackle the National Security monstrosity. I recommend this class to those serious about learning, not just credit
This was a good choice. I had a hard time on the quizzes because you have to think about bigger issues than people and terms but a low quiz score wont kill your grade. I think She cares about students. Instead of just leaving me with a low grade for not making the final paper due date she contacted me with an offer of a 24 hour extension.
I took Professor Sitterud for History 1 and I loved it! She is a great history professor and wants her students to pass. Open note quizzes so just make sure you take good notes and you will pass.
Mrs. Sitterud is an incredibly nice lady, however her teaching style is not the best. She doesn't ever engage with the class and everyone would just sit on their phones and not pay attention. So far, she's the most boring teacher I've had in my educational career. No homework assignments, only quizzes/tests. However, she's lenient on grading.
Ms Mindi definitely helped me to see history and today from a new angle and understand issues. As far as grading, I think she really wants everyone to pass. If you attend class, take the effort to understand the material, and do the homework, youll do fine in this class.
Id take another class but shes only teaching 1301s next semester. Very nice. Definitely not out to fail half the class. Interesting lectures and group stuff. 2 take home exams. Homework: usually 1 a week. 2 papers. I liked her and feel like I learned a lot!
Good professor. Not an easy A but knowledgeable and reasonable grading criteria.
I took 1302 from Professor Sitterud-McCluskey last semester at A&M. Shes amazing!
I didnt think I was a history person but I really liked this class. The professor is really knowledgable. She makes things interesting. I think the grading is fair. She is respectful to everyone and friendly. Yes I would recommend.
I took 1301 & 1302 from Mrs. Her grading criteria is clear. Most weeks you will have a homework assignment due. Most are pretty short. Theres also a couple reading assignments and exams but the exams are take home & you can use your notes. She lectures but its history right. I found it interesting especially 1302. Shes cool and easy to approach
Good class. I have recommended her to friends. I learned quite a bit and it was not hard to get a decent grade. She is very sweet and easy going.
Interesting lessons and group activities. I for sure got more out of it than in high school. She tries to show how things connects to today. I liked that she went over schedule every class. It was easy to stay up on things. There is homework and take home exams.
Miss Mindi is a great professor. Yes she lectures for part of the class and some people dont have the attention span to listen for 30 mins but I liked how she took the time to explain the history other professors make you read from textbook. There are weekly homework readings due but they are interesting. My class had good discussions and actvities
papers, quizs, homework, lecture, group discussion, video, and if you dont finish the class enraged at JP Morgan, inspired by Doctor King, and disgusted at American racism, poverty, imperialism, propaganda, and police state you did not pay attention. Her course question "what has freedom meant in the US" turned out much heavier than I firstexpected
soft pitch voice that make me fall a sleep every time.
She is sweet but lectures the whole class. Overall shes not too bad.
I think shes a good professor. She really seems to care about students and what she can do to get everybody through the course since we went remote. I have enjoyed the lessons. There is always something interesting. I got a lot from this class.
Solid class. Her instructions and expectations were clear for both live and remote. She was very understanding on the COVID thing and not strict about due dates to help people adjust. Remote meetings were all recorded for students who could not attend.
One of two professors I had this semester who made the switch to remote teaching clear and easy. She was very understanding about challenges some people had with the switch & took late work. If you could not make the Zoom meeting, she made it available for later. I feel like I learned a lot and got a good grade without too much stress. Good prof!
Professor Sitterud is a big picture type of professor and really cares about her students. She listens to you and she tries to help you succeed. She's one of the best professor I have ever had and hope to take more classes with her.
Prof Sitterud-McCluskey is great! Yes, you should take her classes. I was amazed by how much I did not know, important history we need to hear today. She is very intelligent, a lil spunky, and also very kind. I got the feeling she really wanted to help everyone make it to a good grade. Not all profs are that way!
Reasonable amount of work. Worthwhile class. Laidback and helpful professor. Take-home midterm and final (maybe just cause remote tho). I recommend.
One of the best classes Ive ever taken. The midterm and final exams will prob kick your butt if you dont take notes on what she says is important to know but both exams are take home, open notes, not timed. She gave us a whole week to do it. I really liked this professor.
I thought I would hate history but this class was really interesting. Very caring and reasonable professor with all the covid drama and remote learning going on. Glad I took the advice!
Yes you should take a class from this professor. Prof Mindi is very caring and easy to work with on due dates and complications. This mattered to me because I work and actually had to work more after covid. I thought her lessons always had relevance to today and were Interesting.
I recommend
This class was much easier to follow and complete than the other classes that went remote. She made the changes and expectations easy to follow .
Great class. I just enrolled in another course from her again in the fall. I like that she made connections between history and the present. I feel like I understand things like BLM better now. I also liked clear instructions and grading.
I took her before covid. She was very lecture heavy & lots of people fell asleep during class but I thought the material was interesting. She's obviously very intelligent and passionate about history. Quizzes were take home and not hard if you took notes. Offered extra credit for good lecture notes.
This class was not easy but it was a 5 week summer class so I dont know what her regular ones are like. Shes very nice and caring tho and she will work with you if you are struggling.
I liked this class I learned a lot! I liked how she connected history we covered with the protests breaking out across the country & todays foreign affairs. She really explains the historical roots & issues. She asked for recommendations for how she can make thecourse more interactive in the fall but I liked it as it was. Not easy, not overwhelming
5 week class, questions packets for lessons, homework documentaries, writing exercises and essay, discussion board. No tests. Easy going and caring professor. Very interesting material. Reasonable amount of work. Yes I do recommend.
I loved Ms. Mindi! She was very nice and really understood that this was a summer class. She accepts late work with a 10 pt. penalty. She has it to where she uploads one module at a time. This helps me know what is due and to not miss any deadlines. Her lectures are very inspiring and interesting. I highly recommend her to anyone.
For this being my first online course, the instructor was very helpful and available. The class was also very interesting and not extremely hard. The instructor is fair and caring.
Im glad I took this class from prof Mindi. She was so caring and helpful. She worked with me down to the wire to pass after I got way behind cus work issues. She is also very knowledgeable about history and how it relates. I feel like the craziness of right now makes more sense because of this class.
Solid choice. I liked this professor. She is very friendly and easy going and helpful. She made doing school online this summer not as frustrating as some of my other classes. I did not bang my head on my desk once. Clear instructions. Cool stories.
I recommend this professor. She showed me why history matters and how it relates. Clear expectations.
Even if you are enrolled in this core course just to complete a basic credit, this instructor, who also happens to be a PhD level historian, does expect you to reach a ridiculous standard as though your major/career path equates to that of hers. The amount of course material for what are meant to be simple assignments is unbalanced and unfair.
Professor Mindi is super sweet and easy to talk to, she's here to help students succeed. The lectures can be very long but they're usually very interesting and enlightening.
This has been a very interesting class. I think it would have been better if in person. She had a hard time getting people to participate online and not feel awkward but she tried and I learned alot. She brought past and present together & asked good questions. There is homework every week and essays but grading is clear and she is chill.
For the first time I actually got into history. The way she teaches and what she teaches really resonated with me. Good class. Enrolling in part 2.
Take Hist 1301 from this professor. You will need to put in the work for the grade but I never felt like she didnt want everybody to get there and pass the class. Put in the work and you will learn some real US history to make you think and see things in new ways. Exams are take home essays where you use course materials and logic to respond
Good class. I like that she makes it very easy to follow online and know whats going on and find stuff. The way she sets up the class online. The things she taught were interesting to.
I recommend. Shes very nice and knowledgeable and fair. She can be funny too. I received B from her snd that was fair. I could have done better but I work so I couldnt always get the weekly homework in. For remote she does a mix of discussion time and lesson. You will answer lesson Qs, once a week homework, and a few essays.
Yes, take this professor. You will learn a lot.
Mix of lecture and discussion but more lecture and I loved it because I learned things I didnt learn in high school that make you think about big questions and how it relates today. Not everybody will like so much teaching and truth. It depends on if you are there to learn history I guess but I plan on taking another class. Well Worth my time.
I took Professor Sitterud for HIST1301 and 1302 and she has a great teaching style! If you're interested in learning more in-depth and getting optional resources for deeper learning outside of class, I couldn't recommend her enough as someone knowledgeable, kind, and willing to work with students on any curiosities they may have! A+++!
I am glad I took this class from Prof Mindy. It gave me a lot to think about really changed some of the ways I see the world. Very interesting stories every week. It was challenging but I dont think its hard to at least earn a B or C from her. She is also easy to talk to if you fall behind.
took as a 16wk course via zoom. very nice and understanding professor. She does give a lot of busy work and you have to write 2 out 3, 4-5 page essays. if you arent a history person, I dont recommend.
Reasonable expectations, and very interesting material. Being a remote class, you get out of it what you put in. Shes not a cop checking to see if you are sitting at your computer ever minute. She teaches and discusses with people there to learn.
I learned so much in this class. The professor presents material in ways that makes it easier to understand history and how it is relevant to our time. She is very nice and approachable
I do recommend this class. Just be sure you understand she is a history phd and teaches real history like a real college professor. Theres 3 exams that are multiple choice and essay. She drops the lowest score of the three. That means you only need to do two. There is no final exam. There are a weekly homework assignments. I think all were inter
I really like how professor focuses on the history of ordinary people such as slaves and workers and how they fought for their freedom. The rich men you learn about in history classes all your life dont come off looking so good and freedom loving. Prof is very likable. Like others say she is approachable and makes history relatable and real.
This was def one of the most interesting classes Ive taken. And she’s really laid back and super easy to talk to. Her knowledge about history and the world is amazing. I wish i had taken this class sooner so I could take another.
The first history class I enjoyed and actually learned a lot from, shes real. I wish the class was longer because of how much new stuff I learned and have a better understanding about. I really appreciate this professor.
Prof. Mindi is a great teacher. Her lectures are more like conversations with the class. She made me interested in history for the first time.
Her lecturing style did not align with me academically at all. I retained minimal information, despite being engaged for the entirety of class. I felt like I was being talked at. During my second history course with a different prof, I got a high "A". If you prefer stimulating work rather than a lecture heavy class, take a different course.
While Ms. Mindi was a very fun teacher for my first semester, she tended to drone just a bit in her lectures. Some points can go on long enough to where you begin to forget what the initial lesson was. Despite this, I still enjoyed her class; she clearly cares that her students are learning. Easy class if you can commit yourself to the work.
Loved her 1301 class, but her 1302 class was a lot more workload. We had Mondays off and would only come in on Wednesdays for lectures so we could have more time to work, but the amount of work was too much to me. We had documentaries weekly with maybe 20 written?'s and slides w/ another 20?'s paired with it. 3 unit test w/ 50?'s and one essay.
Her way of teaching is death by powerpoint and I struggled to stay focused and retain information
Professor Mindi's class was engaging and informative. The workload was manageable, and she was always available to help. Unstuckstudy was a valuable study tool alongside the textbook.
The professor was very good. I was interested in the material taught. She made it relevant. She treated everyone with respect. I like that she encouraged discussion while she taught. The work was reasonable
