Mindy was excellent, her labs are extremely clear and very well organized. She is also a huge help one-on-one and truly cares about each and every student. The labs a marked fairly - watch out for small mistakes. And the formal report is taken very seriously. All in all, she is certainly one of the best lab instructors.

She is one of the clearest professors that I have had at Dalhousie so far. She loves what she does and brings an overall passion of learning the material to her lectures. I would sign up for a class that she is teaching any day.

She's the only professor about whom I've never heard a negative comment, seems to want to get to know all of her 900+ students.

As everybody notes, she's a very nice and helpful person. Very approachable with questions. The pre-lab quizzes are very easy, and she has all the labs on Blackboard so you can just use Command F for the answers, and the lab exam is easy. The lab is marked hard though!

A professor that's willing to go out of her way to help you. The labs are modeled after what might happen in a real research lab, and are very interesting, especially because Mindy is always very energetic in the lab. Be careful with your lab report though -- it's marked very hard. Probably one of the best professors I've had or will ever have.

Mindy McCarville is an AMAZING professor! Her slides/lectures are always detailed. She does a great job of teaching biology, especially in a class of 500+. She makes connections to real-life situations to help you understand the material. Also, she makes audio lectures for you to listen to if you miss class which is above and beyond awesome.

Amazing prof. Goes above and beyond with her lecture recordings. Her lectures are laid out nicely, and are engaging and interesting. She allows for an easy transition to University Biology for first year students. Watch out for those "Two of the above are correct" option on Midterms & Finals.

I had joined the course 2 weeks late, but the support and encouragement I received from her made the material doable. She's sweet and genuinely cares about her students. Also, her explanations and lectures are quirky and fun. Great prof!

Had her as a lab instructor for cells. Great prof. Online pre-quizzes are hard, does not give you a lot of time to do them in. So you really need to pre-read ahead of time. Lab was super cool, and lab final was fair. She is always willing to help and meet with you if needed.

Didn't know how great of a lecturer she was until she left. Was so incredibly knowledgeable about the course material. Slides do not have a lot of text so be prepared to take good notes. Really appreciated the review sessions she had for cell biology.

Mindy is great, she really cares and spends a lot of time reviewing concepts! She also records all her lectures ahead of time in case you can't make it to class (but it's better to go she emphasises things and shows videos in class). Watch out for tough tests and start studying early. Great extra help

Best lecturer I've had and the recordings she posts online are super helpful for studying. She makes complicated concepts seem simple; her cell biology lectures for BIOL1010 were my favourite part of that class.

Professor McCarville is very enthusiastic about cell biology. She genuinely cares about the subject and cares about making sure students learn the material. Her lectures are clear and easy to understand (lots of relatable analogies!) and she records every lecture at home as there's an extra study aid. Great professor!

Mindy is an amazing teacher for what I consider a very difficult class. She is really enthusiastic about what she teaches and goes slow to make sure students understand. The only thing keeping her from a 5/5 is her tests which I find incredibly difficult and very specific. Many questions are more applied and not gone over in class.

She made confusing things easy to understand and was always very organized. Her lectures were relaxing and interesting. Make sure to study absolutely everything for the midterm because the questions are very tricky unless you know exactly what you are talking about.

Mindy is an excellent teacher who really cares about her students. SHe puts lots of effort into her slides to make them well organized, easy to follow, and engaging. Her tests are a bit hard so be prepared to study for the midterm. I blame this on the difficult material more than her teaching ability, however. All in all, Mindy is awesome!!!

Tests are hard, but it's only because she wants you to really understand the information, and it's not at all because of her teaching abilities. Mindy is by far the best professor Ive ever had in any class. She can explain things in an engaging and fun way that is really easy to understand. She explained signal transduction in a 50 minute lecture better than my profs did during an entire semester of cellular neuroscience. The exams were not bad as long as you listen in class and study.

Exams are not difficult whatsoever as long as you read her questions VERY carefully. Tons of resources to study off of, including test like mc questions.

Mindy was my favorite prof in first year bio. Even my mom is a big fan of hers after listening to her lecture recordings. This year is a bit different. Tests, espeically the final, are very tough. The labs are graded so harshly and presumbaly the final as well that they seem out of place in regard to her personality and the whole virus situation.

All your work in her unit comes the midterm and your labs, so there is not a lot of chances to redeem yourself. She is very bubbly, and her lectures were decent.

Mindy is incredible! Cell Bio is a seriously tough topic, but she simplifies difficult concepts into a (dare I say) enjoyable way! She's always available after class and during her office hours for chats and is very concerned for her students learning. 10/10 would take again!

I took cell biology with Mindy as it is necessary for a Biology degree, the class is lecture heavy and a lot of the material sounds very similar so it can be really confusing. If you stay on top of it, you can do well in this class up until the final exam, the final exam is near impossible no matter how hard you study. So start reviewing early on!

Mindy is such a wonderful person and professor. Although her lab assignments can be tough and the final lab exam was challenging, she is always willing to help! Her enthusiasm makes online labs so much more engaging. I would have liked to get more hands on experience this semester, but I stilled learned a lot from Mindy online.

Mindy was super engaging, funny, and obviously cared a ton about what she taught. The lecture slides were very well done. My only critique is that the midterm test was absurdly hard. It asked about very specific terms that had only been brought up one or twice with no real emphasis on their importance. Besides that though, she was very entertaining

Mindy is a good and engaging lecturer. Each lecture, she asks a few questions that are similar (but not identical) to midterm questions. She provides ungraded online quizzes that ask things about every lecture (also similar to the exam). Her midterm wasn't as hard as everyone says; I made flashcards on the slides and did the quizzes, and got an A.

Mindy was an interesting and engaging teacher. She was fun to listen to and definitely had a lot of knowledge on the subject. Her exam was detail heavy and did try to trick you but if you make flashcards and focus on memorization, you can succeed in this course well.

I found Mindy to be an amazing professor. Her lectures were engaging and she was quick to post the recorded lectures after classes in case you missed any. Plus the lecture videos were short which was beneficial. The midterm exam was doable as long as you knew the content well from the lectures. I suggest making flash cards as that helped me.

Mindy is truly caring about the success of each one of her students. It was Mindy's encouragement that inspired me to study hard and find success in this pretty difficult course. Even though it was at 8:30am, Mindy was a ray of sunshine every morning. She explicitly stated the difficulty of the exams, and there were so many practice questions.

Mindy is an amazing person. She is so sweet and caring, both in lecture and in lab. BE WARNED, her exams are SUPER difficult. Her classes are super lecture heavy, meaning every little detail matters. My final destroyed my mark.

While Mindy herself is a great lecturer, the class average of C+ says enough about the difficulty of the exams. I was hoping for the lab portion to boost my grade but that part was graded roughly as well. Will be retaking the course...
