Very easy class!!!
Dr. Percival is an awesome teacher. She is always telling funny stories and tries to make sure we are getting the material. She does tend to get off course easily and she shys away from violent conflicts in history. But she gives an insight into the humanitarian aspect of Amer History. She's also very interested in Thomas Jefferson and Ben Franklin
Shes hilarious , she goes over the quizes the day before the test basically gives the snsweres , as long as you go and she knows your face , your golden
Not funny! Class would go by alot less painful if she stuck to teaching and stopped with the annoying standup act.
Dr. Percival knows her material very well. She does tend to go off subject sometimes. She goes over the test the day/clas before with time to study. Just take notes and read the book. Other then her jokes it is a pretty good clas.
BEST TEACHER!!extremly easy as long as you goto class!!! highly recomneded!!
she is a delightful instructor, off the wall, crazy and fun.
Complete scatterbrain, attempts to be funny, goes off topic, fails to abide by her own syllabus. These are just a few problems I've encountered with "Dr." Percival this semester. With finals right around the corner, I couldn't be happier to know that I will never have to attend another one of her pointless lectures.
she is VERY unorganized, goes off topic all the time, and forgets everything. she is nice and funny but this was a waste of time, she does not follow the syllabus. the best thing is that the semester is over and i will never have to take her again:)
Gets off-topic sometimes and tells corny jokes but is otherwise an easy teacher. Provides study guides with 100 things and pulls the tests (50 questions) from that. Textbook helps but it's a lot of text to read even when it's a small number of pages. Study the study guides/notes and you'll AT LEAST get a B (reading the book on top of that = A)
Thankfully I am done with this class. I would not wish this class on anyone. If you have even a remotely good sense of humor, you'll feel like every lecture is torture. Her impressions, jokes, etc. are extremely unnecessary and unfunny. I am almost completely convinced she wrote all of the nice comments herself.
Thank god I am done with this class. I would not wish this class on anyone. If you have even a remotely good sense of humor, you'll feel like every lecture is torture. Her impressions, jokes, etc. are extremely unnecessary and unfunny. I am almost completely convinced she wrote all the nice comments herself.
Unprofessional, unorganized, and off topic. A complete waste of a class.
Best teacher ever! loved her class, very easy and she's hilarious. Highly recommend her, looking forward to take her for future classes.
Dr.P is a great professor if she does get a little scatter brained. She is a lot of fun and gives great test reviews.I thoroughly enjoyed her class and can't wait to take another one of her classes.
Dr. Percival, although highly educated, can sometimes fool you as she often rambles severely off topic. Pay little attention to the book, as the tests revolve around her unorganized, yet interesting lectures. Outspokenly liberal. Beware of highly subjective exam questions, and don't be afraid to challenge them. Easy class.
I'm so glad that this class is over.I wouldn't take this prof. never again. Not recommended.
Notes give area to concentrate information from book. Studying notes=easy B:Study notes & book= easy A.Gives test reviews. Sometimes funny, always interesting & helpful. If you can't get a B in Dr. Percival's classes, you are either lazy, stupid, or both. This is my second class (also WOH2040) with Dr. P. and the teaching format is the same.
She is an awesome teacher. She understands and gets to know her students. She basically tells you what to study to pass her quizes. The only way to fail is to not attend class and not take notes. She makes History interesting and makes coming to class worth it.
Dr. P is who to take if you want to have fun learning History. I cannot believe I actually retained and enjoyed History!
I thought she was funny, and very knowledgeable. Yes, she goes off topic, but fine by me. How else can you survive a 3 hour history class? Attend classes, do the study guide and u r guaranteed an A!!
I just took Dr. Percival for a second time, and drove 60 miles round trip, twice a week to do so. She is incredibly helpful, caring, and engaging. She is by far the best History professor out there.
With Dr Percival you definitely know where she stands on various issues! She teaches in such a way that you will be able to connect history with what's happening today. If you show up and pay attention you should do well. If you actually read the text as well you should get an A. She also gives an overview/review before each exam.
Dr. Percival is the BEST teacher!!!!! She has one of the best teaching style I have seen yet at this school. She teaches in a way that makes you retain info more and its more fun. She is more than qualified for this job. BE THERE FOR THE REVIEW!!Her reviews are the key to your success. Study the review and pay attention. She doesnt have tedious ?s
Dr. P is seriously the best teacher I have had! She is so passionate and makes you understand the real history of life. She uses current events as well. Make sure you go to class because you learn a lot, and tests are easier. She has so much knowledge that its a shame she can't teach other subjects. TAKE HER DEFINITELY!
Dr. P is a wonderful teacher with a vast range of experience and knowledge to pass on to her students. I've had both American hist and World hist with her and I got an A in both classes and i'm no history buff. She just makes it fun and interesting. I definitly recommend!
She is hilarious! At first I was nervous she would be too eccentric to teach History but she is funny, loves her job and makes the information easy to understand. I recommend that you go to class if your taking her, her test has a lot of Q's from the movies in class. She's a huge Music fan and I absolutely loved being in her class! Enjoy
Dr. Percival is the best history teacher I've ever had. I failed history twice before I took her class. I HATED history. She makes it fun and interesting. She is a little out there sometimes but she is awesome. I actually retained the things she taught us and barely even had to study for the midterm!
Love her!
She is a wonderful person and a pleasure to be around, but didn't teach a lot. I learned most from studying the test reviews online.
She may or may not be the most amazing person/teacher I have ever met. She wants her students to do well. That means a lot. I didn't understand her personality at first and now I wish she was my adopted mother. It's not everyday you get an Oxford student as your professor at a state college. She makes me want to change my major to History. :)
Amazing teacher, class is SUPER easy. I would sleep through her class and when the test came pass because she would tell you exactly what to study for the test. Shes very funny and i love her as a lot wish i had more History classes to take:/
Very easy class, took it as my first College class a dual enrollment student and it was the easiest A I've ever gotten. Just read the book.
Dr. Percival is an AMAZING Professor. LOVE HER and highly recommend her. She really cares about her students. She knows what she is doing, gives a complete study guide for every exam and makes learning history fun. If you dont do well in her class you are not even trying. we need more professors like her.
Great professor she really helps out alot,A must take for all the history classes she teaches. And yes this is my opinion of her,but trust you would be a fool not to take her!
Had her for both AMH2010 & 2020 in the summer. I thought she was great. She actually made a three hour history class fun. I had a 100 going into the final in both classes (Hi, Dr. Percival). Provides study guides, but you really have to know your notes, too, because the study guide doesn't cover everything. I'd recommend you read the book.
She's cool.
Dr Percival is really cool, a little off her rocker sometimes but thats what makes her fun and approachable. I had her for two classes so far and looking to take a third class as an elective. It is really easy to get an A as long as you are there and take good notes. She only tests on what she teaches so attendance is more important than the book.
I love Dr. Percival!! HSe makes history so much fun; basically tests you on movies and clips she shows us in class. Don't have to read the book at all, just copy the review(notes) she types during class and you'll be good for the test. Don't take advantage of her, she's TOO funny & nice.
Dr. Percival is an awesome teacher! I highly recommend her class to anyone! She is passionate about history and makes it fun. Attendance is mandatory. She teaches from her lectures & movies/clips she shows in class. The book is helpful to clarify with your notes, but not necessary, take good notes. I plan on taking her again. You rock Dr. P! :D
My Favorite Teacher So Far!!!!Not even because she makes it easy but because she is a simple person who is always positive and very funny.
Great teacher. Her teaching style is all over the place but she conveys the right information and even gives the test questions in forms of statements as a study guide.
You have to go to class in order to have any idea what's going on, she doesn't teach from the text book. She is a nice woman but her notes and everything are scattered and there is no structure whatsoever. She's funny but her tests are about movies and books shes read, not what we have read. Not a hard class, it was just confusing.
Dr. P is an exemplary human being. She teaches her students in a manner that is truly one of a kind. At the moment I am a few weeks from finishing my third class with her (AMH2020, WOH2040, AMH2010). To succeed in her class, attendance is imperative! If you are looking for a dry professor who lectures from a powerpoint run far, far away from Dr. P!
Yo she be hilarious though! Real talk show up to class (cuz youre paying for it) and be chill, read the book, and memorize the study guide even tho not everythings on there. Stuff from the book is. Easy class.
She is by far the best college history teacher ever. She puts history in a way you will understand. she does go off track at times but if you show up to class review the study guide you should be all set and the movie reviews are a big help so make sure you do it:) Dr.P is the best!! if she taught more history classes i would take her :)MUST TAKE!
Dr. Percival is one of the best professors I have had the pleasure to take. Funny and enjoyable class and the mix of videos and lessons make this class easier to understand. If you show up and pay attention and read your book then you get the grade you deserve. I am holding off on 2020 so I can take her again. Great Teacher and person!!!!
Professor Percival was all in all, a good teacher. She goes off topic quite a lot and doesn't really use the book. Her test reviews are helpful and the tests are fairly easy. Her actual lectures consist of her googling documentaries and videos based on american history topics and showing them to the class.
She never used the text book, the only way you know what's going on is if you go to class. All we did in class is talk about movies and books from the time period we studied. The notes were horrible it was basically a list with no details. I do not recommend this teacher
Dr. Percival is not a traditional professor. She is very wacky and engaging. Haven't opened the book since day one, but she is very straightforward. Utilizes a lot of media to help you learn. Overall, a great learning experience.
Requiring a textbook which I have yet to touch, watching her take up to 10 minutes to do menial tasks with a computer, which she relies on, and a constantly changing list instead of physical notes are just a few problems. Personally, I think she is a wonderful person with a lot of knowledge, unfortunately focus is not one of her strong points.
I have to agree with a previous review, Dr. Percival is a very sweet woman but not so great at teaching history. She is very unorganized every class and scattered in topics. I had a very hard time learning anything in her class because she's all over the place.
DO NOT TAKE- Completely all over the place and unorganized. Knowledgeable yet every class is yahoo videos where she pauses every other minute. Zero textbook use and the test reviews are HORRIBLE. You can master the reviews and still receive a mediocre test grade. The review itself is a list made and added to during class.
Be ready to teach yourself.
Word of advice, if History is not your best subject to begin with don't take it with this professor, you're preparing yourself to fail.
Not a good professor to take if you're not good at history.
Dr. Percival may be different and use almost solely videos, but if you pay attention and watch them you'll learn something (or sleep like my friend and you'll pass too) and if you want a non-traditional teacher and an easy A, take her. No matter what others say, I did learn and I would take her again.
Not your normal professor but she is entertaining when it comes to history. Test is made up of movie and notes. Best history professor I ever taken in history and is not boring.
Dr. Percival is a very upbeat, funny, and fair professor. She teaches with short videos, movies, book references, and inputs notes on the overhead (NOTES ARE THE TESTS). If you show up to class, listen, and take notes you will have no problem getting an A. I would recommend her, especially if you are a visual learner!
Mindy is a very sweet lady. Her teaching styles are different. She is very into lecturing and attendance is important if you want to pass. I suggest reading the book. I enjoyed her class none the less. She is very passionate about what she does.
Dr. Percival is the bomb! Classes are really informational and if you pay attention to 50% of the class with a basic knowledge of history you'll pass.
Dr. Percival is one of the best teachers I've had at irsc she she's not an ordinary prof. keeps your entertained but also make you learn I learned a lot and I've tried taking other professors but none of them compare to not many test the one essay you do I thought was fun and its due at the end she's awesome I would recommend her to anyone
Mrs. P's one of the best professors at IRSC. She knows American History and isn't going to just teach you about a bunch of dead white guys. She's tells the story like it is - the good and the bad. She seems extremely smart, and she's funny. Seriously, don't take any other professor for AMH. Just show up, listen, and learn, and you'll get an A.
Dr . P is the worst professor I have had at irsc . Every time I came to class , I was quickly reminded that irsc is a community college . The classes consists of her pulling up random youtube videos and adding her commentary in between .You will get an A as long as you show up , but will be disappointed if you want a quality teacher .
Dr. Percival makes American history fun and enlightening and very easy to remember. She is well versed on the subject and loves teaching. Awesome. If you want to pass the class with a good grade show up and pay attention. I would take another class with her.
Dr.P is the ideal professor. She makes history interesting and re-enforces her lectures with visuals so that you can remember. If you show up you pass not because she is easy, but because she makes it memorable. I would definitely recommend her to anyone needing to take any history class.
Worst IRSC teacher I have every had. Possibly the worst teacher. Good luck trying to contact her when you need her. She is a pretty funny teacher and she shows a lot of videos.
If you struggled with history this is an EASY A. She likes to talk a lot and shows a lot of videos - some irrelevant. But she only teaches you the big picture so you can remember, instead of all the seemingly useless details. Every note she gives correlates directly with the test. I highly recommend if you don't want to struggle.
Dr. Percival was the best history teacher I have ever had. She is very well educated and teaches history in a way so that you can remember it. She does ramble a lot about her opinions of things and shows a lot of videos. The videos made the class interesting. Her tests were so easy if you study or payed attention in class.
Dr. Percival is a unique professor. Very knowledgeable about history but gets lost a lot on tangents. She is very funny and very real. Definitely need to read the book on your own in order to pass the tests as she tends to only cover a few specifics in class. Wastes a lot of time in class looking for stuff online but overall it was fun and easy.
She is absolutely one of the worse professors I have ever had. She has no respect for religion, the military, or America. She pushes her extremely liberal beliefs on you. She doesn't update black board so you can see your grades through out the course.. Her tests are poorly constructed. Be prepared to feel offended all semester long.
I struggle usually with History it is not one of my best subjects but Dr. Percival made it easy enough to understand the material and do really great in the class. If you come to class pay attention, do the extra credit whenever offered , study the notes from the board you will get an easy A
Most of what we were tested on were from videos and lecture that were shown during class so it would be extremely difficult to get a good grade if you didn't attend class; however, that is really all that is required. We never cracked open our textbooks. If you show up and pay attention, this class is an easy A.
Worst professor I've taken at IRSC thus far. She not only goes off topic constantly, she is also bias and unprofessional when she is asked to explain something. I see a lot of previous comments about how knowledgeable she is on the subject of History yet she relies on Google for the for the majority of her lecture. I strongly do not recommend her.
Dr. P rants a lot and can get sidetracked by her own stories. If someone debates with her she will feed into it. She does give you the notes needed to pass, but can forget to go back to ones you may have missed. Reading the chapters helps somewhat.
Dr. P was a really easy class. Our testing was a little messed up being a summer course, but 2 tests are take home and 2 tests are in class. Her notes are a little confusing so you might want to try and listen to her lecturing. She has a final exam review, so that's not a big deal. An extra credit movie report is given at the end of the semester.
Dr. Percival Mindy is just a sweetheart. Very respected. There are four exams, 2 are take home but something came up and she put exams 2 and 3 together and it was take home. The final was easy. No book necessary just her notes. For the final, if you get the first 33 right you get 100. The most you can miss is 5 questions and still get an A.
Dr. Percival is so broken hearted from what she has been through in her life but she just wants to help others. She's an eye opener, makes u see what you couldn't have before. Her passion is clear. Come to class and don't leave early, she puts secret questions on the tests about what she has said in class, so if you're not there or u leave, sucks.
I took this class in the summer and Percival had some medical issues and missed a class. She made it up to us by making all of our test 33 question take home tests. She wants to make it fair for everyone. You do NOT need to buy the book I got an A and just used her notes. Write her notes in pencil because she changes them as she goes.
I did not learn one valuable thing from this professor. The whole class was her rambling and nothing had anything to do with history. I had her for AMH2020. One of the test questions on the final was "How many ingredients are in the McRib?" All of her grading does not show up on blackboard so you will have to calculate your grade yourself.
Dr. Percival is a great teacher who really cares about her students. She is not the toughest professor, but mainly her only grades are the exams. She is engaging and while I differ from some of her political opinions and views on U.S. History, she is fairly neutral. Would recommend taking her as I feel like I honestly did learn the material.
All of her notes are on Microsoft Word & it would confuse me sometimes. No textbook use since we look at our notes for reference. She is also hilarious and different in a good way. Also, she does not post grades on Blackboard... you would have to wait 'til grades are posted on IRSC.. yikes. But do the extra credit and you will be fine.
Easy class. 4 tests, 2 simple writing assignments. Tells you exactly what you need to know. Pay attention, take notes. She rambles about other stuff and offers her own political and religious views but can be entertaining. Unorganized which can be frustrating. She is very nice and cares for her students. Doesn't use the book.
Super easy, just come to class and study your notes and you will do fine.
I just really want to know how this woman became a teacher. She acts more like a fourth grader.
she's a really great teacher but horrible at putting grades in on time. theres no homework or assignments through the whole year, only 4 tests.
Dr. Percival is great. She is easy going, understanding, and very informational. Her exams follow through with her lectures. I never touched the textbook, just came to every class and passed with an A. I took her for AMH2010 and 2020 because she was such a good instructor. She gives extra credit and works with her students to help them do well.
Dr. Percival is a great insructor. She is kind and wants you to pass the class with the best grade possible. Her lectures and notes is exactly what is on the test. Pay attention and you will pass with a high grade.
One of my favorite professors. I had her for AMH2020 during Summer Term A. I only needed one more History Class for my major. Unfortunately, this professor was not teaching anything except AMH2020 during the Summer B Term, as I would want another class with her. She is a very great professor. I traveled far to her classes, but it was worth it.
Her class was easy. Most of the notes she gave us was on the test. there would always be a few questions that she didn't go over cus she is very unorganized! She constantly changes the notes which was very irritating and relies on Google for most of her Info. If you're a history major DO NOT take her!She does give a take home test&few extra credit
This teacher is literally one of my favorite teachers at IRSC. I do NOT like American History and she made it really fun and easy and actually really interesting. She was so nice and such an awesome teacher. I would totally take her. Her tests were exactly the notes and what she said in class. She wants you to pass and does not have it hard at all!
Show up to her class on time because she may give 3-5 points extra free-bee answers on tests, copy the notes she gives because they are exactly the test questions. She's a little sarcastic and funny in my opinion.
After taking her class, yes I learned a lot about American history, but I also feel like I learned things from her that I can use based on everyday life. What kind of person I strive to become and how to be a better person for this country, and really, the world! Sad that this was her last semester teaching at IRSC. Thank you Dr. Percival.
I would gladly take her class again
Sooo glad she is no longer teaching at IRSC. The history of the mcrib and economic inequalities of today were not relevant to the American history (reconstruction to ww2) class that I paid for.
