Wonderful Teachers who teaches because she wants to and enjoys it.
Fabulous!!

She was good especially for the sexuality class
She was great
Dr. Stombler is an amazing professor. I took her sexuality course, and it is by far the most interesting course I have taken throughout my college career. Some think she has hard tests, but she gives study guides and holds study sessions to help everyone
Extremely interesting and personable. Relates favorable info while getting her point across. provides xtra credit opportunities and assistance for exams. thorough. compared to most classes, i've learned the a lot from her concerning a number of issues.
She was an amazing professor. I attended every class because i just didnt want to miss anything. She's wonderful at listening to student feedback, and she is very helpful with anything you might need extra help or explaning with. Take this class with THIS teacher, she really knows her stuff.
wonderful teacher but she test on the readings which might be a little boring, other than that i LOVED her class
She is a demanding person - must know 5 things or 3 things for tests and it's unclear sometimes what her lists consists of also muct be worded exactly. Think she is so demanding unreal. Do NOT take this prof.
I had Dr. Stombler for both intro and the Sex & Society class. I wish I could have her for EVERY class. Her lectures were very clear, very informative and extremely fun to be at. I highly recommend taking Stombler for anything you can.
Dr. Stombler is fantastic. The class is fun and interesting and she gives you every opportunity to make a good grade.
Great, funny teacher! Covered a lot of info but she did a great job
Dr. Stombler is a very gifted professor. She knows the material very well and is more than willing to help with any clarity matters involving the material. The readings are little heavy, exams specific, and she does have a tendency to talk a little fast. She does give a very helpful study guide, which I recommend you know every detail to make an A.
Great teacher, loved going to her class. Her tests come straight from the lecture and some questions from the articles (which can be hard).
EXCELLENT!!!!!
One-sided point of view. Makes it hard to have discussion class. Feels like she is mocking you.
This woman is hilarious! Her tests are demanding and you WILL be tested on the readings. Most of the articles are good though and shes open to you telling her that an article sucked. No word is taboo in her class and she'll know you by name if you ever talk to her. Woman also has some style and some kickass skirts. She's one of those few professors that you wave at and make a funny comment with when you pass them on campus. She's burnin' when it comes to Sex & Society.
Dr. Stombler is an absolute joy to share a learning experience with. She challenges the mind by challenging all these stereotypes and "boxes" that we tend to live in. I wish I could have a teacher this enthusiastic for every class I've had at GSU.
Such a good teacher! She made the class fun and was easy to relate to. You do have to write reading reviews which are graded kinda hard, but she drops the lowest one and it's worth it! It'll be a class you'll look forward to goin to!
Easy easy easy. Read the books, read the text, pay attention in class and you've got yourself an A. She makes lecture fun and she really opened my eyes to several social problems!
Its an easy class as long as you follow the rules. She makes the class very interesting. And I would recommand anybody to take her. its and easy A-B. attend every class and you should have no problem. :)
Very upbeat teacher. Requires lots of writing. Coming to class is a joy. Lots of fun, but stick to the rules. I recommended her and this class to most of my friends. Come to class, take good notes and stick to the rules, you'll get an A or B.
Dr. Stombler is awesome! She really made the class interesting, relative, and fun! I wish I could take it again!
Great Teacher, Really! You will like going to class. If you want an A go to and take notes in class. The paper assignments are not hard if you follow her metric. Course reading load is interesting and not at all overbearing. She is extremely knowledgable and makes the class fun and interesting, put simply you can't help but pay attention.
I don't know why people are lying about this professor, she is aweful!!! Her tests are hard she gives you to much to read, she act like her class is the only class you got with all the reading!!!! She is boring and one-sided, and she thinks that what she says is so true, but it''s not. I hated her class.
Dr. Stombler is a GREAT professor! She keeps the class very lively and interesting. She's very intelligent, and she's hilarious! I actually looked forward to her class. And I learned a lot. Her tests are on the hard side, but you'll be fine if you do the readings. TAKE GOOD NOTES on her lectures and the readings, and you'll be ok. An "A" is very do
Dr. Stombler is so awesome! The class is fun not like going to class at all. Just take notes and you will do great! I hope to take her again!
By far my favorite class throughout college. It is a very interesting topic...of course! There are 4 exams and 4 papers (2-3 pages each). You get to drop your lowest paper and exam grade. You will leave the class knowing things you would have never imagined! Definitely take her!! I'd take the class again if I got credit!
Dr. Stombler is one of the best professors out there; she easy to understand, her class is extremely interesting and you'll leave realizing you actually learned something. If you show up to class you should have no problem with her exams.
In 18 yrs of college over 4 diff. schools, Dr. Stombler is best one I ever had. 10% of grade is just being in class for easy writing assignments. 4 papers (lowest dropped)3 exams (lowest dropped)&1 final. If you don't like this class you want "A" just handed to you & you should take your spoiled butt out to CA w/rest of the self-indulgent brats!
She's wonderfully fun! Her class is interesting and very informative. The reading is not overwhelming, but necessary in order to do well on tests. Class attendance is not mandatory, but attentive note taking is extremely useful!
Incredible teacher. Fun, enthusiastic, extemely knowledgable. On Haloween, dressed as a nun, talked about sex toys, passed out candy.
I love this woman!!! The class was fantastic and fun! She makes you think and come outside the box. I've taken every class she taught! Best Professor ever!
A straight forward teacher... you take notes and and do the reading you'll be fine... it is alot of reading to do though!
AWESOME!!! she made the class so much fun and interesting!!! i went to every single class and each time there was something new. she is very helpful and the class is not hard at all. i would recommend this class to anyone and i have to a lot of my friends!!!
THIS PROFESSOR IS BY FAR ONE OF THE BEST IVE HAD! she teaches the material well and incorporates material that she knows will catch our attention. Class isnt mandatory but she does have surprise writing assignments which are fun. go to class and read selected readings and youll be be fine! tests come straight from lectures and book GREAT TEACHER
she's freakin awesome... makes whatever class she's teaching interesting... love her!!!
I've taken Dr. Stombler for two different classes, and i have to say... I absolutely loved her classes. She's AWESOME... She makes the classes so interesting. All you really need to do is pay attention, take good notes and read the assigned readings...
Great teacher. She maps out what you need to do in order to get a passing grade. Just follow her advice and you will be fine. The class was very enjoyable.
Great class. My only advice to future students (especially if you take pride in your writing): you need to write every essay with this mentality "I am Mindy Stombler and this is what I would write and how I'd write it." Then you will do well. My advice- "tell 'em what they wanna hear." There is no room for creativity and she will tell you so hersel
Study Tips=Read Chapters early,Start a study group,Start writing papers early,Go to the writing lab,Borrow other students notes,Underline in book while reading,Get to know professor & TA,Put the time in and work hard,Exchange emails with a few students first day,Read notes daily,Do you homework, Don't study night before test,Sit in the front row.
Stombler is very nice and really knows her subject. Just remember, just because its a sex class doesn't make it easy. You read alot and the test and papers can be difficult. Get to know her and the TA's. Follow the directions on papers exactly. Read chapters twice and underline while reading. Study hard & smart.
She's a great teacher, very down to earth. Make to sure to read the readings and your notes to pass on her tests. You'll definitely look at sex and our stigmas of it in a different light after this class.
She is a very good Professor; however, very explicit as far as sex.........Also, this is not an easy A, Dr. Stombler requires a lot. My advisor recommended this class as a easy GPA booster, I don't know what she was thinking!!!
Very funny and interesting teacher. She def knows her stuff. Not an easy A because though attendance is not mandatory you HAVE TO GO TO CLASS TO PASS. She gives a lot of information for the test in class and you can't find it in the book. She also asks that you write 4 papers and they are just about back to back. but she is very interesting.
Stombler is NOT an Easy A. Funny lady but she talks really fast and you will not get all the notes you need from the book, YOU HAVE TO ATTEND CLASS. She has 10 POP writing journals for participation. Notes are extensive- 4 exams, drops the lowest but not the FINAL.4 writing papers back to back. I met with the TA to go over notes i may have missed.
NOT a GPA booster!! Interesting class but it can be difficult. Really nice and fun lady, but content of the course can get cumbersome(4 tests & writing assg. and 10 in class writings) Doesn't lecture from the book AT ALL, YOU MUST READ because content from the book will be on tests in addition to lecture notes. Her innuendos are pretty funny :)
Worst class to take if you're not a Sociology major. Business majors have this idea that it's an easy A, but seriously think twice before taking this class (there are plenty of other non-RCB elective courses to take). If you're a guy, seriously think twice as this class is not helpful or worth your time. Information you learn is useless. SERIOUSLY!
Don't listen to the advisers!! This isn't an easy course. If you're a business major pick something else! Class was never boring but trying to keep up your grade in the class is hard!! She talks pretty fast too.
She is my favorite professor of all time! I loved her class and looked forward to attending. The syllabus outlines exactly what you need to do to make a good grade. I made an A and I really didn't think it was that difficult. Read. Study. Go to class.
GREAT teacher!!! Take her class!
Best teacher I have ever had! Her class is very interesting and she makes it so much fun!! I recommend taking her class!!!
I loved this class. The content was interesting and Dr. Stombler is SO fun and interesting. My class was at 9:30AM and she actually made me WANT to wake up early and come. I loved her. However, DO NOT skip/blow off this class. The material isn't hard but if you blow it off it will come back to haunt you. If you want to take Sex&Society, Take Her!
I DID NOT LIKE THIS WOMAN, but the class itself is pretty interesting, but don't get the misconception that it is common sense and think you don't have to study. You will need the book and you MUST ATTEND & PAY ATTENTION IN CLASS, u will work for your GRADE...PERIOD
Dr. Stombler is kind and hilarious!! I have enjoyed her class this semester. Cons: Reading reviews are graded rather harshly by her teaching assistants. Be 110% prepared to study for all tests or you will not do well! Pros: Subject matter is interesting & fun!
Really good teacher - very passionate about sociology (she wrote our textbook). The class is very labor intensive, however. For each of the four exams I had about 30 pages of lecture notes then she assigns 150-200 pages of text which accounts for about 25% of the tests so you have to read them. Extra credit offered too.
I officially love this woman, in a platonic way of course. Very passionate about her work, very thorough and fully able to make fun of the topic and be personable. Seems more like a day time hobby to her than a job. Loved her class. Kinda wanna take the class again to have her as a teacher
Awesome! You have to read the textbook, but just do it! The articles are fascinating, the class is well organized and fun. Recommend this class for pretty much anyone.
Great class. Amazing teacher. She is extremely well versed in this subject and in all things related to gender/sex issues. Read the articles from the book, but dont wait till the night before the test. ATTEND CLASS. her notes are important and its fun.
One of the best professors I have EVER had! She is hilarious & open to introducing students to sociology and thinking about sex sociologically. You have to go to get the notes. A LOT of reading from the text book. Three mandatory (3pg) papers. U'll never think about sex the same again. U haven't had sex until you've had it with Dr.Stombler.
Very organized, clear lectures. The study guides give you all the information needed to get an A on the tests. Not, a hard class, but you need good notes and need to read all the chapters. Also, attendance is a must as there are in-class writing assignments. I don't think she's very helpful 1 on 1, but a great lecturer.
I was worried at first because she doesn't use slides or powerpoints, but she is the BEST lecturer I've ever had. She keeps you entertained, tells you what you need to know & what you don't! I LOVED this class, I wish I could take it over again! Dr. Stombler is amazing and should teach every professor how to properly teach a class! Take this class!
An amazing teacher!Class is not required, but if you don't have notes for that class, you'll fail the exam. However, each class was a joy and I learned alot.As one review said, you never had sex until you had it with Stombler. This is a class all GSU students should take. The work is not hard, all it requires is your effort, but it is worth it!
Took this as an elective and LOVED it. She is such a great teacher. She is always prepared, organized, and lectures in a way that you don't get bored! Of course the class is interesting on its own, but she does a great job at opening minds to new topics and making you think. There were 4 exams and 4 papers, but we got to drop 1 of each.
One of my most favorite teachers at GSU. She is funny and makes the class super interesting. I actually wanted to go to class. She is very straight forward in her grading and what she expects from you. If you have a chance to take Se and Society, you MUST take it with Stombler!
This teacher rocked. She had a great attitude and really owned the material she was teaching. 10 pop writing assignments throughout the semester, 4 reading review papers w/option to turn in drafts (easy), and 4 exams which for me were absolutely impossible. Must read a lot and study hard.
BEST PROFESSOR & CLASS AT GSU! This should be a required class. The most fascinating and eye opening class I've ever taken, & Dr. Stombler is amazing. Class isn't mandatory, but you're gonna miss a TON if you skip. There's a lot of reading & writing, so don't put it off til the night before the exam! Book is mandatory, she wrote it. Take this class
Dr. Stombler is excellent. She is really good at what she does and you can tell she loves teaching. I would take the class again if I had the chance, I completely recommend it. The only issue is that it's an elective and there is a ton of reading and writing to do. It's not easy by any means, but you will enjoy learning the subject.
I loved Dr. Stombler! She was very passionate and interesting. Her lectures were energetic and never boring. There are 10 random writing assignments throughout the semester. They are easy and you just basically whatever you feel. There are 4 easy reading reviews and she drops one. Make sure you take good notes bc exams based on notes and articles.
She is awesome! Take her
Much harder than you expect - turn in drafts, meet with TA, writing consultants, organize study groups early, and you will learn a lot and LOVE this course!
Stombler is cool but this was an elective for me and I did not like the demand of the class. If your are a sociology major please buy the textbook, do ALL 4 papers drafts included to better your grade. Take notes and STUDY...the book is hard to read but try to get through it. Attendance is high because of 10 writing assignments. P.S.no extra credit
Can someone please tell this woman shes teaching an elective class? Why are you giving 10 writing assignments, quizzes, tests, AND 4 papers? Nice lady but made an easy class way too difficult. Beware, u will work way harder than you are supposed to. She will give you a C- too if you arent careful. Reconsider
Attend every class, read the chapters more than once, record the class lecture, study early before the test, get several people to edit papers, get to know her, sit in the front row.
Do NOT TAkE !! It's too much for an elective ! Interesting topics but no bueno!
She is great. She expects college level work. MUST take good notes in her class and read whatever she assigns to do well on the tests. Tests are not tricky, you just need to have a good understanding of the lecture and reading. Clear about expectations, lectures are clear. I suggest typing notes in her class. She's fun - Just do the work!
I put forth A level work but received a B (whatever). I would not recommend this course for sociology and women's studies students. An extremely unnecessary and copious amount of reading assigned. Didn't require much thinking just a lot of work and memorizing.
I loved her! She obviously loves what she does which makes for an interesting class. There are many article readings so get ready to read. There are only 4 tests which are not that hard to pass. DO THE STUDY GUIDE!!! Extremely helpful
LOVE Stombler!! She makes the material extra clear and is happy to clear things up if necessary. The material is interesting as it is, but she makes it better with her evident passion for the subject. She is so helpful and goes out of her way to make things easier for the students. Love the class and her!!
Stombler is passionate about humanity. Her lectures are engaging. It's important to attend class in order to make sure you are aware of all of the material she covered. She does NOT post notes online, though she does give a concept list before each exam. She also has a teaching assistant who is very helpful.
Dr. Stombler is my favorite professor thus far in my college career. She mostly lectures, but she finds a way to make them engaging and interesting. She very much cares about what she teaches, and it shows. Attendance isn't mandatory, but we have "Social Change Essays" every now and then, so it's in your best interest to show up every day.
Dr. Stombler is one amazing professor! She makes lectures interesting, and is extremely friendly. Her class consists of 4 exams (8-10 questions from readings, the rest from lecture), 4 photo projects (illustrating social problems), and 10 in class essays (simply show up to get credit). You HAVE to put in work! But the material is fascinating!!
She was hilarious by far the best teacher I have ever had!
Takes a really awkward subject, and somehow manages to present it in a way that's professional yet fun. Very inclusive of a wide range of sexuality. This class was recommended to me by so many people - and didn't disappoint. You do have to read to do well, but the text book (by Stombler) is engaging and sometimes even titillating. Best Prof!
Class is interesting you learn about how different cultures view sex, things you'll be shocked about some are kind of gross. YOU HAVE TO READ. no way to get around it. theres like a reading everynight and their kinda lenghty ( she wrote the book) few test directly from readings and lectures. plus like 8 writing assignments based off readings.
I Love Her To Death! She Is So Passionate About Her Job, The Best Class Ever
Dr. Stombler is hands-downs the best professor at Georgia State. She is sweet, helpful, and she has a never-ending wealth of knowledge when it comes to her material. Attendance wasn't taken, but I never missed a class because she makes you want to come to class. Dr. Stombler will inspire you to want to change the world.
Dr. Stombler is a fantastic professor. She made every class interesting and exciting. Course consisted of 4 exams that all came from notes (no book required). One of the first three exams was dropped. It is very important to take detailed notes and show up to every class.
Class was extremely interesting and Dr. Stumbler is amazing. Reading the book was mandatory to make A's on the tests. Take detailed notes and and read the book and you will make an easy A.
She was an awesome teacher! I learned so much. I would take her again. Her assistant gave exam reviews which was really helpful. She gave study guides, however you have to read her articles bc she doesnt include questions from the readings on the study guide! However, she is always available for help! Go Stombler! :)
She is a very good professor! You will have to read but the readings are usually interesting. She is extremely helpful! You will get an A if you study for her tests and do the readings. She gives out a concept list before each exam which guides you on what to study. She is also super sweet and nice.
Love, love, love. She is awesome, funny, and fair. She knows how to relate to students and she's super smart.
This class is amazing. You do have to take notes and be attentive in class. Honestly if you do that, this is going to be an easy A for you. The subject is very interesting and she makes class really fun. She doesn't give that much homework. She gives study guides too. Take this class!
This was by far my favorite class in college so far!! Dr. Strombler makes this class beyond amazing. I was actually sad when class was canceled one day because every day get me intrigued! You have a lot of reading to do in this class to get A's on test and you must be in class to pass. But all the work isn't hard and I would do it all again!!
Stombler was absolutely amazing. She is very clear during her lectures and will make the class very fun. As long as you listen to her lecture and read the articles she gives, which are by they way very interesting, then you will do just fine.
I suggest showing up to every class. She gives 10 "pop" essays and paying attention/taking good notes is really all you need for the exams. Expect to read A LOT of articles, there are 10 questions per test about them. You'll also need to take pictures of social problems and explain them, so be prepared for that. Very interesting class :)
Dr. Stombler is FANTASTIC! She lectures very well and her readings are moderate. Pay close attention, sit in the front, ask questions, do assignments, and do study guides and you'll live. The issues presented can be witnessed in the world right now so class content is very relatable. Would take again! No complaints.
My favorite professor I've ever taken! She makes class enjoyable which makes you want to show up to learn the material. There is a lot of reading but again, they are interesting and easy to pay attention to. The tests aren't hard as long as you do the study guide and read the material. If you're willing to put in minimal effort its an easy A+!
Best prof EVER! Dr. Stombler is so passionate about her job and makes her lectures VERY enjoyable. Attendance is mandatory but totally worth it. You have tons of interesting reading to do if you want to make an A in the class. Class is easy if you can manage your time properly and put in the effort. I would take her again if I had the opportunity.
Dr. Stombler is the best professor that I have had at GSU. I'm taking another one of her classes simply because she teaches it. Her lectures are great and she's hilarious. I would definitely recommend her.
A lot of reading
Stombler is funny/GREAT sense of humor! READING IS A MUST. 4 reading notes due, Those aren't so bad. 3 test (M/C 50 quest.) AND a final, lowest grade dropped if everyone agrees as a class. 10 EASY in class writing assignments (opinions 2-3 sent). The reading is A LOT b/c she co-wrote the book, GO to class notes are extensive! No attendance policy
great professor! lectures are amazing. test are based on lectures so go to class and read the assigned readings because questions on the exam about them. readings are long. post a concept list before each exam. 4 exams multiple choice. 4 picture projects. easy class if you put in effort.
She is an amazing professor. Her course material is very straight to the point and easy to comprehend. She makes sure all her students understand the content and often opens the class for discussion on topics discussed in class.
The semester isn't over yet, but I just had to get on here and say that Dr. Stombler is AMAZING. She is by far my favorite Professors at GSU. She knows her stuff and explains the material in great detail and not to mention she is HILARIOUS! There is a lot of reading but the chapters are VERY interesting and you will learn a lot from them. TAKE HER!
I really enjoy this class with Dr. Stombler. Her lectures actually make sense and the info is useful outside of class. I like the she's actually engaging with class discussions and doesn't just read off a powerpoint slide. Hopefully I can take some other courses offered by her.
She is a great professor. Buy the book, read everything that is assigned and show up to class. The way she sets up the syllabus makes everything very clear. It's an interesting class to take if you're into sociology or are just a SJW lol. She's very nice but if you miss and exam or anything there is no way to make it up.
Best teacher at GSU! Her lectures were always interesting and she is hilarious! Definitely do not want to miss class, very important to show up, you will miss a lot of information. The tests, photos, and readings you have to do are fairly easy, you just need to pay attention and make sure to do them! Will definitely take her again.
This is my second class with Dr. Stombler. I LOVE HER. She's knowledgable in her subject areas, stays up to date with statistics, and has captivating lectures. Pay attention, take notes in class, and do all assignments/readings to make an A.
Amazing instructor. She really cares about her students. Her lectures are very touching. She gives "social change essays" randomly so attendance is mandatory. These "essays" are just a paragraph or two about the topic you've discussed. She grades it on completion. Reading her book makes a a huge difference in test scores! Must read the book.
She is the best instructor at GSU! Her lectures are amazing and informative! She's so good that her class should be mandatory. This class is very eye opening. Attendance is mandatory. But you won't want to miss her class anyways lol. She really cares about her students. The lessons you learn in this class can change your whole life. Amazing.
I love Dr. Stombler! Her lectures are amazing and she's clearly passionate about what she is teaching. She does have little pop quizzes/mini essay things that you might miss if you chance missing class but other than that she's great!
This class was my favorite class of the whole semester. Dr. Stombler is really an expert in her field, and you can tell based on her lectures. In this class its important that you read the assigned readings, because about 30% of the test comes directly from those readings. You NEED to go to class and take notes, she pulls questions from lectures.
unnecessarily hard. lots of readings, some are interesting, most are boring. her lectures are fun tho.
Great professor but the assignments were annoying. We would all usually make a C/lower on the HW assignments cause we never understood what she wanted exactly. The papers we wrote in class almost daily are pop quizzes. She is funny, & nice one on one but you NEED to read the textbook or will fail the exams. Come to class or you will fail.
Stombler is terrific. For the lower level social problems class, she gives random in class essays. They count for a letter grade, so go to class! Lectures are interesting anyway and Stombler is a really cool professor. There's a curve on your final grade (ex. 78.5 80) and the exams are easy if you read the book. BUY the book! It's useful later
TAKE HER CLASS. You won't regret it. She makes lectures genuinely interesting and I always look forward to going to her class. 10 in class participation grade essays, 4 photo submissions with descriptions, and 4 exams, the 4th exam replaces your lowest test grade. Make sure you do the assigned reading. It is vital to the test.
I found her super annoying and obnoxious. She makes her TA's do all the work. She only posts study guides 3 days before test and study sessions are not on the day or time of the actual class, which makes no sense. She just blabbers during lectures thinking she's so fun and relatable, but makes the TA do all the work. I have no respect for her.
THIS PROFESSOR IS AWESOME. Before signing up for Sex and Society I read her reviews. Nearly all were positive and the negs seemed to be grade-related. You do have to read the readings, study, and come to class every day to earn an A, but you will enjoy all of it. This prof knows her stuff and makes the class a "sex-positive" environment. Cool.
Second class with this prof. Love her. While Sexuality class was fun and enlightening, Social Problems is sadder. But you really get a sense of what is going on in the country and I left ready to get involved. You don't have to attend class, but you'll miss in-class writings if you don't and they can't be made up. Tests are MC.
Dr. Stombler is one of the most inspiring professors I've had at GSU. She is an engaging lecturer and knows what she's talking about. Take her class, you will learn a lot and it is a fairly easy A as well. You can also tell that she really loves teaching.
I LOVE THIS CLASS! The class is lecture-based so you must take detailed notes and make sure to pay attention to her lectures. Also, make sure to read the textbook our you won't do well on the tests. She grades hard on photos but the tests are easy and are basically the study guide. The social essays are easy 100s if you come to class.
Stombler knows her information, however her grading is extremely anal to the point of irritation. She has unrealistic expectations for her students that they'll be able to rad 40 articles just for her class. Very superficial as well. Interesting class just would not take it with her again.
She is aweosme!! would take her class again, only thing that sucked was her test were kinda hard becaus eyou have to read the assigned readings but overall amzing professor!!
Lectures are entertaining and engaging but make sure to take notes on everything she says even the stuff she doesn't write on the board. It helped me to watch her as she was reading things off of her computer to know what to write down. A lot of reading but it's interesting stuff. Unannounced in-class essays(1 page) so show up to class.
Dr. Stombler is an incredible professor! She really cares about the course curriculum and her students. The lectures are interesting and to the point. Id make sure to take a lot of notes and study like crazy for her tests. She is very friendly, approachable and silly, but an all around amazing professor. Anyone would love her course.
This class was pretty sad but also inspiring at the same time. The lectures are really interesting and about 40 questions of the test come from the lecture and videos watched in class, so don't skip. It is pretty reading heavy but the articles are really not bad once you accept how long they are. Photos are graded harshly but the assignment is fun!
She was honestly kind of arrogant to me. If you aren't super liberal your opinion doesn't matter and she doesn't encourage free thinking. The atmosphere was kind of rude. She's a good teacher though and she knows her stuff. The photo assignment was nearly impossible to get full credit for. Lots of reading. Random participation essays. Lecture heavy
This was one of my favorites classes to attend. Everything spoken about in the class is very interesting and keeps you engaged. Dr. Stombler was very organized in the way she taught and ran the class. She does assign 12-15 readings per test which is mandatory to read if you want to pass the tests, but they are interesting and fun to read.
Difficult to get an A+ , exams are hard
Really great and caring woman. Funny too. Her lectures are fun and you learn a lot of woke things. 10/10 would recommend
Stombler has a photo project that just isn't clear. It's graded difficultly and just seems impossible to appease her satisfaction. You are limited in characteristics to describe the photo, which in turn, limits one on their ability to convey a true "analysis". She also teaches out of her own book. YIKES
Dr. Stombler is my favorite teacher at GSU. She is crazy smart about her work, she even wrote the textbook. She doesn't post lectures online, it' all by word of mouth so if you don't go to class you'r screwed. The tests are on all of her lecuteres plus book articles so be ready to read a lot. The class takes work but she' amazing and makes it fun.
Shes an amazing teacher. Go to class, take good notes, do your readings and youll make a good grade! She makes learning so fun! Def would take again.
Her tests are soooo haaaaard . If this is an elective class for you do not take it
She seems like a great person but her class is definitely not an easy A class. The photography project seems simple but she grades very hard (even though she claims she doesnt). You HAVE to study for her tests and take good notes from her lectures. Make sure to look at her concept lists she posts too. Difficult but passable.
Dr. Stombler is AMAZING. Her lectures are long but she doesnt make them boring. Grading criteria is pretty clear, doesnt accept late work but gives ample time to get things done. Tests are relatively easy if you take good notes.
She's a good teacher and is certainly knowledgeable. But, she does not give high grades easily. You cannot afford to miss a single class even though attendance is not mandatory, because her notes are 90% of course material source. It's kinda weird that she teaches from her own textbook- which by the way isn't as efficient for studying as she feels.
She's a great prof and super knowledgable about the material. The class is super interesting and you'll definitely learn a ton. She lectures the entire period so if you skip class or don't take good notes you won't get an A on her tests. There's a lot of at home reading from the textbook which she'll also test you on so get ready to read.
If you pay attention in class, maybe youll survive but if you get the chance to leave, do it. My time was NOT worth it in this class and i just barely passed.
Amazing. Her syllabus was clear and she was always available outside of class. There is a lot of reading; I would suggest knocking it out in big intervals maybe a week before the test so the material is fresh ( not the best advise but it worked for me ). I loved her class and her teaching style. No late grades or EC but I passed with a solid A.
She makes a rather easy class difficult. Do not take this class as a "layup". She will not work with you and doesn't assign extra credit and pop quizzes you every other day.
Great professor! Just remember to show up to class and READ THE SYLLABUS!!
Dr. Stombler is a great professor! Her lectures are very informative and interesting. Take good notes in class and study! you will do good on the test, for extra help there is study sessions. Attendance is not mandatory but you dont want to miss info or in class essays (which are SUPER easy).
I took Dr. Stombler's class in Fall 2019 and I absolutely loved her. Her lectures were very interesting and she was always clear about what we should take notes on. Very detailed study guides before exams, simple projects, and engaging class discussions. Lots of readings from her textbook but as long as you stay on top of it you will pass the class
She has readings, lectures, four photo assignments, your choice of five out of ten essay prompts, and four exams exams (no cumulative). Her lectures are interesting and easy to understand. She is professional but friendly. She responds to emails quickly. She really wants you to learn. Make sure to listen to her lectures.
She is an amazing professor. Her lectures are very eye-opening and help you realize the things that happen in our world that we may overlook. She responds to emails quickly and tests are very straightforward as long as you READ and take DETAILED lecture notes! She's a fair grader and is willing to give helpful feedback (:
Dr. Stombler is an amazing professor. While her exams are based mostly lecture based, her lectures are interesting and detailed. If you watch her lectures and do the readings and take notes, you'll do well. Considering how we are in a pandemic and most classes feel meaningless, Stombler's social issues was the most fulfilling class I've ever had.
So passionate and knowledgeable- she can back up everything she says with data. The tests ask questions about anything from textbook articles to stats she brought up in the lecture so be ready to take detailed notes on everything. SO interesting and relatable and caring. very few non-stressful assignments. study ur readings! study guides provided.
Lectures are interesting, sometimes, but too many readings that she never goes over. Her grading on photo projects is ridiculously strict and her expectations are way too high for a class that is mostly filled with freshmen.
She gives you so many readings each week. Exams every two weeks. She gives out a content list way too close to the exam date so not much time to properly study. She grades everything like your life depends on it. Exams are worth 78% of your grade, which is ridiculous. You have to take detailed notes every day in class and the exams are specific.
Dr. Stombler is a very nice professor and offers help when you need it. Her lectures are interesting, however if you miss a class you will miss a ton. If you do not do the at-home textbook readings you will not do well on exams. She grades her photo projects very harshly and almost impossible to get an A on them.
So inspiring. Dont miss the lectures. Sure I had to put some time in to get a good grade, but the material and how she teaches it is so great. My favorite class so far.
Shes literally the best. She was my favorite this semester.
Interesting class and teacher. Don't miss the lectures; they're the vast majority of what's on the test. Take good notes! And remember to follow the rules of the photo project. I found this class pretty easy- as long as you make an effort and show up you should be fine.
Read the textbook. If you don't there will be about 10 questions on the exam that you'll have no idea how to answer. No extra credit! The professor does a great job of giving enough time and chance to get assignment completed. From my experience Dr. Stombler does a great job on covering sensitive topics respectfully. Definitely a must take class.
My favorite professor and class! but in order to pass this class you NEED to take good notes and do the readings bc the Exams weigh a ton. The essays are really easy but take the photo projects seriously bc shes a tough grader on those and they can help bring your grade up if u dont do well on the exams. No extra credit so make this count
she is great. Because of Corona, her lectures were online. Make sure you take ABSOLUTELY DETAILED notes. Even something she might have said in passing, it will be on the test But you get to use your notes for the test. We did 5 essays and 4 photography assignments throughout the semester. Final exam not cumulative. took her fall 2020
A nice professor. Attendance is not mandatory but recommended. Take good notes, and study exams are worth 85%, easy assignments, and exciting classes.
Exams are worth about 80% of the grade. Easy essays and activities and engaging classes, but if you are not good at reading and memorizing tons of lecture information, you are likely to fail on the tests. I got a B on every test but failed 1, leading to my B. Completed all other activities. Dr. Stombler is great, but the exam being 80% wasn't.
Professor Stombler was overall a great professor. Although attendance wasn't required, it is highly recommended to pass her tests. We had a total of 10 essays and you only had to complete 5, small in class activities, and the majority of your grade would come from the 4 exams which were worth 83% of your grade. Take good notes and do the readings!!
exams are 82% of the final grade, do good or don't do well in the class. exams ask questions like "in this lecture what did I say?" which is ridiculous. If you ask her for any HELP or EXCEPTIONS the answer is NO and ask your "team groups". NO EXTRA CREDIT AT ALL! go to class or you will fail the exams which are every few weeks.
This was one of my favorite class! It is really interesting! Professor Stombler is awesome! However, the readings can be long some weeks (up to 30 pages a week). The tests are easy if you attend class, know the data she gives and do the readings.
If you don't come to class, you probably won't do very well. Coming to class and taking notes on everything she says will get you a good enough grade on the tests. I got a B on all the tests by just doing that, without doing the extra readings. Good professor, but she was very messy and all over the place when she wrote on the dry-erase board.
Honestly was harder than necessary. had 4 exams worth 82% of your grade. If you missed even one class you would fall behind. She was charismatic and kind but the exams were worth so much that I do not recommend.
The 4 exams in the class are worth 80% of your final grade, so it's important to prepare for them. You also will have about 20 readings to read for each exam which are normally on the longer side. Doing the readings and getting good notes from the lecture are vital to doing well on the exams. Overall, she's a nice professor.
Professor Stombler's class was engaging and eye-opening. Attend lectures, take detailed notes, and use resources like Unstuck study to ace the exams. The workload is manageable if you stay on top of the readings.
I loved Dr.Stombler's class! Her lectures are so interesting and engaging, and on top of that she is very caring towards her students. Attendance isn't required but it's recommended because majority of her tests are lecture heavy. Don't walk... run and sign up for her class!
The professor is extremely caring and really shows she cares about what she's teaching. The tests are very lecture heavy so going to class is recommended as you'll a miss a lot of content if you do. The class is also very reading heavy from the textbook. Also she does not provide any extra credit opportunities.
I loved Dr. Stombler! She is an amazing professor. Her lecture style is very casual, and she writes the notes you need to know on the board! No guesswork. Going to class is a MUST to pass. Everything from lecture is on the exam. Go to class, write down notes alongside her, do your readings, and you're set to pass with a pretty good grade.
I loved this class! The topics do get very deep and dark sometimes but that was the point of becoming aware of social problems. READ! You must do the reading as they do have a good portion in the test. the test are a big chunk of your grade, however if you go to all the lectures and take good notes YOU WILL PASS. Ask for help if you need it.
Dr. Stombler is a great professor and person in general. I would say my experience in this class was great but I wish the exams weren't worth so much. They're worth 75% of your grade. I got 3 A's and 1 C on the exams, which substantially lowered my average. If you take this class STUDY STUDY STUDY for those exams!
My queen Dr.Stombler was one of the best professors. You can tell she truly cares for everyone of her students. As long as you attend lectures and do the readings you'll be fine. If you need help making sure you're notes are good she is open to meeting during office hours.
If you cannot attend classes, it will affect your grade. it's not that she grades for attendance she gives in-class activities that go toward your final grade. So if you missed a couple of classes, the doctor's note won't do anything. She doesn't give extra credit or homework. It takes a LOT of reading and exams are 75% of your grade
I took Dr. Stombler for intro to social problems, the class was alright. There are a couple of in person group assignments so make sure to show up for those. Make sure to take good notes and read all the assigned readings for the textbook, as there will be questions on the test based on them.
Great class with interesting content but be PREPARED to do lots and lots of work. This is not an easy class as you'll have to truly put in the work. She expects a lot from you, but she is nice and hopefully you get a TA to help with the review.
She's a good professor, but the readings/vids are super long sometimes 30 pages plus and lecture notes on the board are all over the place, super hard to copy down and keep up. There's a lot of group work, so be ready to collaborate. Attendance isn't required, but going to class helps you keep up.
Make sure you're never absent even if you're sick its going to affect your grade anyway. She also doesnt "believe" in extra credit lol

Dr. S. is a serious professor but she is funny and cares about students. She doesn't play, but she also tells you what you need to do to succeed. You just need to do it. I learned a ton in the class. Really eye-opening. Not a blow-off but worth it.
I took Dr. Stombler for Hunger in Atlanta-course number wasn't listed here. The professor wanted us to do well and gave us lots of chances and good feedback. She took good care of us all summer I learned a ton about food insecurity but it was actually fun.Perfect more chill vibe for summer--half the time we volunteered. Great prof and course.
The courses she teaches are extremely political, she makes them that way at least. I prefer a non-partisan style of learning so it rubbed me the wrong way. Overall, the course is your average college level material. Read the material, show up to class, and take good notes and you'll do fine!
She is such a sweet professor but I do not recommend taking her class. Her exams and tests are confusing and rely heavily on you being extra attentive in class (don't skip anything or you'll fail). Even if you go to the bathroom you will miss a good portion of her content which she does not repeat. There is just too much content to read too. 0/10
Very lecture heavy and does not do any recaps or post anything so if you miss a class sorry for you! No extra credit. Asks bizarre questions in her exams. Very easy to fail if you're not 100% attentive and taking notes on EVERYTHING. I wouldn't take again
Shes cool and all but its just a lot of reading and im not much of a reader. You also cant miss class because some of the questions on the test ask about videos shown in class only, so if you dont go your fried. The test questions are also structured in a way that if you dont thoroughly read and take notes you'll do bad. Please just take online!!
DO NOT MISS CLASS. Even if you are sick try your best to attend class because if you miss a single thing you are cooked. Try not to even go to the bathroom mid class because if you do, you can miss a good chunk of her lecture which she doesn't repeat but TRUST it will show up in the exam. There's also too much to read and it can be overwhelming
Get ready to read and dedicate 90% of your time solely to reading her content. I would not take her again. She's nice but she does not play. There is no extra credit so if you fail or something, GGs.
Professor Strombler had incredible lectures, and I found myself to be highly engaged in her class. She is very caring; however, it is crucial in this class that you are disciplined. Tests are not difficult at all if you go to class, take notes, and read! No homework aside from reading which was manageable! I would highly recommend her course!
WOULD NEVER take this teacher if she wasn't required. I would have dropped or withdrawn but I needed the credits. She's known to fail people. Save yourself
