this man is the ebst math teacher, period.
he will help you not be afraid of algebra, he goes above and beyond
guy rocks! i did horrible on my tests but came everyday and he gave me an A a real nice teacher
No Comments
Very cool teacher/nice guy, makes jokes and is even funny when hes not trying to be. A little hard to understand cuz of his english but goes over lots of examples. Good thing is he doesnt try to trick you on tests but you gotta at least know da material.
Worst teacher. Extremely disorganized and unprepared. Tries to make everything up as he goes along, and ends up contradicting himself a lot. Lectures are him babbling while he tries to do problems from the book and messes them up. Barely knows calculus
Nice guy, but isn't prepared enough to teach upper level math. Does not present material, only does problems from back of the chapter. An easy grader, but you'd better be able to teach yourself from the book to get any real understanding.
This guy shouldn't be teaching! He's unorganized, unclear, and a self-admitted procrastinator. His lectures seem to be more of him proving that he knows how to do the work, but he doesn't take much time to make sure that the students understand! You're better off reading the book.Avoid at all costs!
he's nice but very misleading and procrastinates. Although he does use up the whole class time going over dozens of problems, you won't learn much from his lectures. The book will give you a much better understanding.
lazy guy. he procrastinates very badly. he also is a student himself and my class had to constantly correct him on mistakes he would make during class. on the positive side, he kind of knows he sucks at teaching so he grades kindly.
i'm not going to lie. he is hard to understand, and is a procrastinator. but if you pay attention just like every other class, and STUDY. you should do fine. believe me, everyone is just being a baby, and taking advantage of how leniant he is. Mr. CAN IS A GREAT TEACHER.
Mr. Can is a good math instructor. A little to fast for slower learning night classes, but very good at "wanting" students to stay in class and understand what math can offer us. As others have said, "Attend, take Notes (even if he's errassing the board you're on),Particpate in class, Attend Lab, and Study...You'll pass! Thanks Mr.Can!!
Mr Can Rocks!!! Attend class regulary take all tests & quizes and you'll pass!! He does lots of examples but you really learn on your own out of the book. Take his class!!
this guy is fun. take him.he does what the students want he will take the test back if students ask him to do. does help u will u are taking test. he gives u hint on the hard problem. and guys who dont know the graphs there are no graphs on his test. take him he is easy his lectures may be boring but he is nice and test are open book.
this guy is perfect for you. Trust me. Easy A fosho
He is a nice guy, but when it comes to teaching.. He just does stuff on the board so fast that I can't keep up.. He spends 2 minutes explaining how to do something and he sets us free to do 20 some odd problems without any questions asked. He even took a personal phone call during class one night.
definitely the best teacher i've ever had....EASY, funny, and nice
Easy professor with a good attitude, The problem with ratings for math professors at community college is the fact the mos tthe kids drop class the first week due to the fact they have jobs at burger king and cant make class. I can attest to the fact that if you stick with this class and sweat it out you will get a good grade. Ming ROCKS!
He is very helpful but you have to ask alot of questions. He does not go through all the steps to solve a problem on the board. His "tests" this last semester were just the test from the back of the chapters. If you go to class and do the work you'll get an A. Don't be discouraged the 1st 2 weeks if there are alot of people. 95% drop the class.
great teacher. u hav to be willin to bear his language barrier but he makes up for it through out the course. i got an A.
He is a nice guy. Not hard, sometimes hard to keep up with notes. I got an A. Likes to talk about his personal life a bit. The stuff he talks about is rather funny. He has interesting habits like having whiteboard markers to stand up on his desk. He has a vietnamese accent. Wasn't too hard for me to understand but my relatives have the same accent.
If you want to get an easy A but dont care about learning calculus, take his class. he gives out 3 exams. the first one multiple choice, second and final were take home exams. his lectures were boring because you have a hard time understand him and folow his lectures.
his grading is weird, if u want an A just make sure u stay after class everyday to talk to him so he knows u, u can skip as many class as possible as long as some1 signs ur name in then u're good. Exams r straight out from the book so BUY A SOLUTION MANUAL BOOK & copy from it during exam, he lets u! will not learn much from this class 4 sure
Easy A, tests were open book, open notes. For the final test he just came in told us to open the book and and do problems #'s.... the answers were all in the back of the book. Only way anybody failed our summer class was if they never showed up for any tests. Only thing is he has an accent, and comes very unprepared again easy A
i got an A in the class and i defintely didn't deserve it. now im having a difficult time in math 3b with chen. if you want an easy A first semmester and want to die second semmester take can.
THIS IS AN EASY ''A'' BUT YOU WILL NOT LEARN ANYTHING
you wil waste your time if you choose him. He was the guy usually late to class and took on his cell phone during the middle of the class. Don't take him.
Yeah, you don't learn anything, but for students who just want to get their math requirement over and done with, take it with can. Only attended class 5 times entire semester and passed with an A. Took all tests and final. EASY!!!! He's great and funny. If you ask him, he will explain in detail.
I'm not a math fan. My goal in this class was to get the best grade possible and get out. If you feel this way too, Can is your man. If you say hi, strike up a conversation, and at least pretend to care about the subject, you'll most likely get an A. Also, he lets you take group tests & final! Not recommended for math majors/lovers.
doesn't explain things clearly, hard to understand what he taught.
didn't explain things clearly, hard to understand what he said. if you want a easy A just took him.
If you're in math major, or you will take other math classes after, DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. Though it's easy and high grade because the grade of whole class is extremly low, and he gives curves. But that will gives you a trouble in the next math class, you will be lost, struggling, or only can retake the class.
Terrible teacher! Cannot understand him. Easy tests, but he does not have his act together. If you need/want to learn anything DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!
(-: I LOVE HIM. HE IS LIKE THE BEST TEACHER AT IVC. TAKE HIM :-)
Great teacher, best math professor I ever had. You will learn a lot. It is easier than other math classes because he teaches so well. I took the class Summer of '07, but I never got around to commenting on him. Be sure to attend class and study hard, it is calculus. Thanks for teaching us Mr. Can! You're Awesome!
can is for people who have trouble with math. i would not recommend him for math major/engineer because he spends too much time on the basics for people that shouldn't be in this higher level math class in the 1st place. helpful though and easy to contact through email if you have questions.
Mr. Can is a little hard to understand. By a little, I mean a lot of people will drop his class in the first week. He is obviously very intelligent and knows he needs to improve his teaching skills but overall I think he is great once you get used to his learning style. He does contradict his policies sometimes, that can be confusing.
Easy A class if you just want math credit. He is the chillest teacher ever. Test are open notes/book and the grades are curved. If you don't pass a test he'll give you a extra credit opportunity worth 50 and up.
Does not teach, he only solves problems on the board. He obviously knows the material but his "teaching style", if you can call it that, is bad. He hands out worksheets and solves problems without explaining.
This guy is really good. I'm not good with math as well as lots of others in the class and he's slowed down considerably to accomodate us slower students. I work hard in the class and he will give consideration for that. He offers private tutoring before other classes. If I don't pass this time, I'll take him again. Real nice guy.
Bad teacher. He knows how to do the work but cannot explain it. He says to meet him before class for extra help but he doesn't show up. He does not explain how to solve problems. You have to learn it on your own. The problems on the tests are more advanced that what the book gives you. Avoid if you can.
Don't expect consistency from Mr. Can but he does allow open book tests and lots of extra credit. He will tell you a test date but then not show up prepared, that can be quite frustrating.
THIS GUY IS RIDICULOUSLY CRAZY. i swear! His tests are SOOO EASY and he's soo lame that if the majority of the class teams up on him about something he'll give in and listen to them about anything such as moving the test date back or whatever. yeah it's EASY, but you don't learn ANYTHING. you have to TEACH yourself pretty much.
He is a joke. 1/2 the class dropped the 1st week. I dropped b/c I don't have time 2 teach myself all the material @ home. He would do 5 problems in 2 hrs & then tell us 2 4get 2 of them b/c he does not know the answer. Avoid this guy at all cost. His test procedure is ridiculous. He will say it's scantron then on test night say nevermind. He is ver
YOU WILL HAVE TO LEARN EVERYTHING ON YOUR OWN. DOES NOT EXPLAIN THE MATERIAL CLEARLY AT ALL. NOT HELPFUL. DO NOT TAKE HIM! HARD EXAMS! THIS CLASS LOWERED MY GPA. I'M REPEATING IT NOW.
I thought he was fine. Nice guy and curves the grades on most of the tests.
he is pretty easy on the tests and doesn't have any mandatory homework assignments to turn in. not bad if you ask me!
He does not know how to teach. He puts problems on the board and expects students to be able to understand it. Does not explain anything. He is also very disorganized and talks constantly about nothing of relevance. Avoid him.
I thought he was a nice guy and he was funny. He has a very thick accent and cannot pronounce X. But he was overly fare on his grading and testing policies. If you want a good grade but arent too concerned for retaining the info, take him.
he was wonderful
Not recommended! he doesn't teach anything, he just comes to the class and starts solving the text book problems without explanation and when you ask him a question his respond is not clear. he thinks that you already know everything and this is just a question solving class! terrible accent on top of everything! I studied everything on my own!
This guy is pretty worthless. Most of the lecture is his mental masturbation (does it by himself). He doesn't tell you/focus on what is important, explain his reasoning, or invite questions. He thinks/writes in a non-linear fashion and has a thick accent to boot. All around very hard to follow. Better be very dedicated/gifted to learn the material.
You won't learn anything from him, but it's a SUPER EASY A. He likes to do most of the work in his head and likes to write down the formula after completing the problem. Just ask him to show all his work and show formulas before hand. Open book & open note tests. He said if you get D's on all the tests but show up every day, he'll still pass you.
if this class required for your major do not take it with him unless you want an easy A.
this guy is so nice and humble! he tries to be helpful, but you may not understand until you go to office hours or read ahead. don't blame him. he really is a good teacher, just study. tests all multiple choice for math 3b. again, very nice and humble!
I'm currently enrolled in his class and am waiting for IVC's site maintenance to be over so I can drop. I was hoping Mr. Can would explain the process for solving the math problems, but he does not do that. He gets to class and immediately starts working on the problems with very little explaining. Accent is too heavy, I will not take him again.
his accent isn't as bad as people are making it out to be! you have to be retarded to if you can't understand him when he talks. he's really nice and humble as others have said! but the class is self taught - he just does problems on the board, no teaching at all :( good things: easy tests, very lenient, approachable. STAY HUMBLE MR. CAN :D!
He's so nice. He truly cares for his students & he's ALWAYS reminding us in class of how much he believes in us & our ability to achieve. He's not that great at teaching though. He doesn't explain problems that well & if you ask him a question, you'll probably be left more confused than before. Easy though, curved the test score & my D became a B.
Very nice teacher that cares about his students. He is willing to allow you to take tests later if you have a pressing personal issue. Also very funny, although many don't understand his humor because it's very South-East Asian. Overall great experience.
THE WORST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER HAD! Can is ridiculous. i can't believe he is still allowed to teach. unless u are some kind of math genius, you won't learn anything from him. you'll pass, sure(he told us he doesn't fail people or give them A's)are are literally guaranteed a B or C so don't bother working too hard. useless and sooo frustrating!
Doesn't provide a calendar in the syllabus so nobody knows what's going on in class unless you show up to class every day. But there's no point to show up to class because you won't learn anything, and you could be using those 3 hours to teach yourself instead (you'd get a lot farther that way anyway).
This guy is the man. If you don't get an A in this math class then you should just quit school because it does not get any easier than this. If your decent at math and remeber highschool algebra you'll ace this easy. He curves the tests, and really tries to give everyone an A. You have to be a stright idiot to fail.
First and fore most i have to clarify that this guy is good hearted and seems to have the best intentions. With that being said, HE CANNOT TEACH. If you're looking for an easy grade then by all means go for him, but you wont learn squat from his lectures. You teach yourself at home. To our benefit however, all his tests are multiple choice.
This guy cannot teach! He makes no sense. If you ask her for help he will make you more confused. He knows a lot about math but SUCKS at teaching it. Take some else or spend countless hours teaching yourself.
Horrible teacher, can't understand him and he does not teach the material. Waste of class time. On the other hand, he will pass almost everyone. Homework is not worth points, and the 4 tests that make up your grade are short scantrons. If you want to pass but do not want to reatain any of the material, take him. I took 8 week summer class got a B.
He is very nice and sweet. He has an accent, but will clarify if you ask. He wants the best for everyone and wants everyone to pass. TAKE HIM!
He doesn't explain well but as long as you study with your book then you will get a b for sure.
The good thing about him is that he wants to pass everyone, and will curve your test to the point where an 8 out of 20 is passing. The bad part is he can't teach at all. He is hard to understand and doesn't teach you the lecture at all so you have to use the book to learn. If you do the homework you should pass easily.
His class was definitely the easiest class I've ever taken in my life. He is really nice and he really tries to help you. But his class is really boring but the good news is he doesn't take roll. His tests are super easy because they're so similar to the practice tests he gives you before the exam. Overall an easy A.
I am 100% sure if you take his class you will get an A,even if you don,t study very hard.
Professor Can, is a nice guy and easy to approach for help he trys his best to help his students understand the material. His class is easy and so are his exams. There are about 9 chapter exams all multiple choice, homework due the day of the final only odd problems.
Stats is not the easiest class. Mr. Can takes the time to really explain concepts and works with you until you understand everything. There were times when I was confused in certain chapters and he would be in the computer lab early to help other students. Nicest teacher, I recommend him! Thanks Can!
Nice professor but can not teach. I passed the class when I was 100% certain I was going to fail. You are bound to pass this class whether you've failed every test, quiz. He speaks extremely softly. He doesn't fail his students. The lowest grade one can get is an C. I got an B.
I loved Mr. Can! I am NOT a math person, and this was actually my third time taking this class over, and I passed his class with a B. His class is easy, homework is due at the end of the semester, tests are scantron and we can use calculators. The only thing that was a little difficult was it was hard to understand him at times. I HIGHLY recommend!
Mr. Can is AWESOME!! Brilliant professor! Very helpful and very flexible. If you are not a math person, I highly recommend you take him. Don't torture yourself. Just show up and try your best. He is a very nice man and cares about his students.
Professor Can is the worst teacher I have ever taken. He is very disorganized. He would email us telling us he is going to send out the homework and we wouldn't get it for another week. I feel like teaching isn't his priority. In class he doesn't have notes and he just does the homework with us thinking that it teaches us.I would not recommend him.
Just Take Him for an A!!
He is easy and that's all,
Simply, Pr. Can = A !! He's so funny, take this class if you wanna get an easy A !!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS PROF. HE IS SO CARING AND HE REALLY ENGAGES WIH HIS CLASS A DEFINITE EASY "A" IF YOU DO TE WORK AND SHOW INTEREST
This class is a joke. I's easy because the tests are open-book, open-note but you still have to teach yourself everything unless you can understand anything from him during lecture which most people dont. He speaks in this low-key inaudible voice and pauses a lot. it's impossible to follow with what hes saying. If you can teach yourself, easy A.
I'll start by saying I hate math. Yes, Mr Can has an accent, but it's NOT impossible to understand him the way some people on here make it seem. He's kind hearted and cares about his students. He will help you as best as he can. Just go to class and take notes, you'll do good.
EASY A. EVERYONE TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. Honestly, never taken an easier class. Exams are open notebook and they're extremely easy. Prof. Can is the sweetest guy and really cares about his students passing. Have homework which is due on the day of the final (odd problems from each section of the book).
Mr. Can is a teacher that truly cares that the student does well. He likes questions so that he knows you understand. This way he is able to get instant feedback on whether or not he is explaining as best he can so that you understand. Math 140 is not easy, but Mr. Can made it easy. Keep up the good work Mr. Can.
Easy A
He doesn't respect his students He is usually late to class If you ask him to go slower or explain the problem better, he tries to blame it on you for not understanding it better I remember doing all the chapters for my homework & he gave me 40 out of 50 because I didn't have a folder. He get's side tracked a lot during his lectures
Mr. Can is the best professor around. You must take him to understand his awesomeness.
Professor Can is the best stats teacher at ivc. Seriously, take him if you want an A. He explains how important school and math is to you and he does get side tracked often, but his tests are pretty simple as long as you come to class and do your study guides. Test is open book and homework of all the chapters are due by end of semester.
Don't want to learn math? All you need is a C? This is the class for you. 3 Exams, 1 "cumulative" final that focuses on 3 pre-specified chapters of the book. Open note, open book. Looonnnggg study guides given. Homework: Every other odd problem in the book due at the end of the semester, so tons of busy work.
the best prof ever
To be as accurate as possible, Professor Can has a very thick Vietnamese accent and appears to be struggling with teaching Stats making it nearly impossible to learn. About 4-6 usual students who come to class, most of the class don't bother and only show up on test days. He compensates by allowing open note, books, laptops and phones on exams.
3 tests plus final. hw turn in at the end of semester, no paper. doesnt take roll. gives out practice questions before tests. tests are pretty much from those practice questions but different numbers. tests are all multiple choices, open note, open book, even final. so kinda easy A. grades very fast. would recommend!
Best professor ever. Loves math!!! One of the best teachers at Irvine Valley College.
He's a super nice professor that cares about his students. All his tests are open note, open book, etc. You can even use your phone and laptop. His tests are directly from his practice problems. Take this class if you want an A. He doesn't take attendance either. Just show up on test days.
Just finished taking his Business Calculus class. If you simply want to get a passing grade, take him. He's not the best teacher around. However, he passes anyone so long as they show up to class and give a little bit of effort. Grading consists of 4 tests, attendance and homework (collected at the end of the semester). Take if you need to pass.
Take this if you want an A. He is very kind and lenient and understanding.
Professor Can is the best math teacher I've taken. He has three exams and a final. Each one is only 20 questions and they're all multiple choice. The only other thing he grades is homework and he just grades for completion. He lets people use their phones, books, notes and basically anything on the exams. If you want an easy A, take this class.
There are 3 tests which each have 20 multiple problems. Study guides are given. Some of those questions will be found on the tests or similar but with different numbers. You are allowed to use your notes, technology and book for ALL tests. There is plenty of homework but its graded upon your neatness and completion. Easy A.
Give him by the second day of class to adjust to his accent. Its a very easy A course, especially for those who want to transfer. 3 Tests. Each have 20 multiple questions. 10 chapters to cover. Study guide given. Open book, notes and laptops are okay to be used during tests. I would recommend this class during the summer because of how easy it is
If you hate maths and need to take Maths as a requirement, then Professor Can is your guy! He is super laid back, and really cares about his students success! Easy A! Lots of homework, but all he does is flick through the book at the end of semester, so don't worry too much about being precise with it all!
It's difficult to understand his English through his thick accent, and his teaching methods are unorganized and he never gives clear direction. He never taught us the proper ways to solve problems, he would play it by ear until he got the answer that's in the teacher's manual. He assigns problems and will teach on them after HW is complete. AWFUL.
Awesome! He is the best math instructor I had at IVC. Many who complain are probably the ones that skipped lectures, or left halfway thru class, very disrespectful. I highly recommend Mr. Can.
He is superr boringgg, u cant understand a word he is saying, it looks like he's talking to himself you wont learn anything, you dont have to go to class, if you want easy A take it with him, you have to study on your own you wont understand anything from him. I would NOT recommend him.
