This is his first year here at UNCC apparently, and maybe because of that he seemed pretty nervous and awkward. Hard to understand, his voice has an accent and also he talks very meekly. Aside from the timidness, the course itself is somewhat boring, I mean, learning to click stuff? I could have learned the subject matter with a book.
Overall, he's a good professor. He can be a bit hard to understand at times because of his accent but he wants to make sure you understand everything and he encourages questions. You don't have to read the textbook but you understand the material more when you do.
Most students won't give him a good rating but he's not that bad. He talks quietly and his classroom management skills are a little lacking, but he's a decent prof teaching a class that's very straight-forward. He's willing to help during his office hours. Stay off facebook in class and PAY ATTENTION. It's not hard to make an A in this class.
Partially online. The other part it not actually taught by Huang- but teacher assistants. Never actually met Huang. Not a hard class at all. Dedicate maybe 2 hours a week and you will get an A, unless you don't already know the basic concepts of computing... then you might need to dedicate more time to it. Very easy, good class.
Not a good experience. Mainly you will have to rely on yourself since this is a partial online class. If you do have a class it is a class that is there for you to ask questions. Usually your questions will not be fully answered, or will be helpful to you. Did not feel like this was an intro class but a little bit more advanced for newer users.
This was a "self-paced" course. There was no actual classroom instruction. The lab time for questions was lead by teacher assistants. The language barrier was an issue. When questions were asked, the TA would simply do it for you or tell you where to reference the textbook. This class is designed for students with prior knowledge, not beginners.
If you have experience with Excel you will do fine. Some experience B or A. No experience C or B. Treats it like a second level computing not intro class. Tests are tough ( all SAM-Cengage). Projects are easy if you know what your doing, if you don't start early and Google each question.
I took Excel & Access classes in HS and this was by far the easiest class I have ever taken. All work is done on a computer module and graded that way. Make sure you take the exam training a couple times and memorize it because the exams limit your clicks. Other than that the class is easy as long as you keep up with your online work.
The material is very straightforward but he is not. You only have to show up for the exams but if the material doesnt come easy to you, you will have to go to class and he is a little tough to understand sometimes. I don't like the people that bash professors for having accents but he does have one and it can be very difficult.
Could not understand a word he said, nor could he understand what I was asking when I would ask questions. Had to rely on TA heavily for questions about how things were graded, material questions, etc. Class itself is easy.
I cannot describe accurately how ridiculous this class was. You can't understand a word. He has no idea what he is doing. With 2 hours of studying for this class I got a 47 on this past test. This class is a joke. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
Ming-Chang Huang's accent is ridiculously hard to understand and he does not understand English very well either. With that being said, I could not take in anything he taught in class and had to teach myself. Test were way harder than homework and projects so it was very hard to prepare for. I would suggest taking professor Silver for this course.
You can't understand a word he says he offers no help to you when you ask for it you do not have enough time to take each test because he does not allow enough time. Would not recommend taking this class probably the worst teacher I have had.
Probably not the best teacher for this class. While you do get used to his accent, he mumbles very badly making it almost impossible to here in class. If you have the option, take this class online, you pretty much do the teaching yourself. Tests are tedious and misclicks can result in wrong answers even if you know the material.
Probably worst teacher ever. His accent makes it hard to understand. He doesn't care. If you have a question he won't help. You basically have to teach yourself in order to pass the class. I DO NOT RECOMMEND taking his class. Although the material is easy and the class shouldn't be hard, he makes it a very hard class.
Yes he has an accent, but he is really cool guy. He gives homework for extra credits, you so do not need to buy a book, everything in the excel slides. We had about 5 progects, which not hard if you have made your trainings in time. The attendance is mandatory. And to get A is easy even if you do not have an experience.
At first I thought this class was fairly easy until about the 2nd test when they were nothing like the study guides. I thought I was maintaining a B the whole semester until he updated the moodle grades the last week of class; so I'm just now finding out I have a D in the class and its the last week of school. This class is not for beginners!!
If you can get another teacher, do. He is the hardest person to understand. The class is just him going through an example you will have on the exams. Very boring, but try not to skip. BUY THE TEXTBOOK!
You're on your own, though teaching yourself isn't too bad if you have the book and a couple friends in that class. Trust me, you need all the help you can get. Do every training, tutorials, and projects to get cushion for grade and do study guides. He also offers extra credit too, but they're tough unless you pay attention in class. Good luck! :)
You basically have to teach yourself. He mumbles and has an accent so you can't understand him that well but he goes pretty fast. The only real issue is that no one can understand what he is saying, but unfortunately, all of the Excel teachers are foreign so it is hard to understand any of them, so I guess you just have to deal with it.
Terrible, terrible, and terrible. Has an accent so you'll never understand what he's saying. Makes everything hard to do, AVOID HIM!!!
He's not a hard professor. He gives out extra credit so do them. Do your homework, it's easy. Show up to class and follow what he is doing & you'll pass. His first exam was easy, it was exactly what we did in class. Ask him to repeat if needed. Never touched the book. 3 quizzes & 3 exams. Final exam is optional. Missed class, watched online video
Almost impossible to understand the professor. Takes attendance. Tests aren't too bad if you go to class and pay attention. Final exam is optional (replaces lowest test grade). Homework is easy and takes 10 minutes. Wouldn't take this again because he is so difficult to understand!!
The class itself is incredibly easy and has very quick and easy assignments. He talks fairly quitly and has a slight accent, but isnt that hard to understand. Gives extra credit just for following along in class. Very nice guy and the class is an easy A as long as you attend.
The class was mostly online and the only time there is class is for a review for a test or a project. Truly an easy class and if you still do not get the materials you can just youtube everything really. Put in a little work can get an easy A.
Stay far away. You will not pass any classes. Extremely hard to understand what he is saying. He does not teach, he just shows you how to scroll from left to right.
Easy A. Pay attention in class and you will do well on the quizzes and tests. There is homework but it takes 5-10 minutes max and the program explains how to do everything. He has an accent but you can understand him as long as you try and listen. Make sure you go to class, there are attendances quizzes at the end of every class. Extra credit too!
I don't understand the low score. He gives tons of extra credit and drops some of the lowest quiz and test scores. The homework and online projects give you multiple attempts. He almost covers the homework exercises step by step. If you make less than an A, you weren't paying attention and are lazy. It's a good class and professor.
Good instructor, knows the subject. Ready to answer all your questions.
Super easy class as long as you show up. Very nice and funny professor. Always answers your questions and helps you with things you dont understand. Gives atleast a week to do every assignment. Optional exam
Very nice guy, but the modules are very time consuming and difficult. What he goes over in class is completely different on the test. I have taken excel classes in the past and have never been so confused in a course. The tests are long and graded harshly. I would not recommend this professor.
Honestly, do not know why this score is so low. Each class he just goes through an excel workbook that can be submitted for extra credit. Most of the assignments do not take long at all and the tests have a great study guide.
The professor isn't terrible, but he is very hard to understand and it makes the class impossible to pass because you have to know what you are doing. The tests are ridiculously hard and they count for 75% of your grade. Would not recommend taking his class.
He's really nice. If you don't know anything about excel whatsoever he goes really slow to make sure everyone catches on. However if you pretty much know what your doing already you'll be pretty bored. It's an easy A. He goes over all the homework and projects in class, so it is almost impossible not to get a 100 on all of them. Optional Exam.
If you are a computer science major or someone technologically inclined, I would recommend this class. The excel projects are incredibly easy if you do the required training exercises and already know a bit about excel. The class is test heavy and I can definitely see how you could do poorly if you had no prior knowledge going into the class.
Very difficult course. choose a different professor. I tried my absolute hardest and made an 80.06, barely putting me at a B.
The professor is nice and friendly but he is very hard to understand. He goes over the homework and projects in class, so attendance is pretty important if you are not experienced with excel. I was sort of loose with my attendance and did not try very hard but ended up with a C.
Professor Huang is super nice but has an accent which makes it a little hard to understand him. He does the assignment with you in class but goes way too fast and when you ask him to go over it more than once he gets mad and says I just did it.
He is nice but has an accent and is very hard to understand. Attendance is taken every class. You have three test which are heavily weighted compared to the other assignments. No extra credit. He will get mad if you ask him a question or if he has to repeat himself. Optional final.
English is obviously his second language so there is some difficulty with that. Does not give any practice. Already expects you to have coding experience, for which the majority of the students do not. Exams are bogus. Copies text from the book, and uses it as his lecture slides, and fails to effectively teach material. Use youtube and scrape by.
hard to understand
He is nice and means well but I can not understand him at all. I tried really hard in his class, but he is very confusing on top of the fact it is difficult to understand from his microphone
This class is easy but understanding him is the difficult part. He does have a thick accent and the microphone doesn't help that. If you need him to repeat a step, just ask. If you have a question, just ask. He posts videos of him doing the steps on canvas so it should't be hard to get an A on the assignments. attendance is mandatory.
Hard to understand but the class is easy. I never studied for the tests and still got an A. Make friends in the class who will send you the attendance code if you don't want to go every time.
He's a great funny guy. He is a little hard to understand at times because he is soft spoken but dont let that deter you. His exams are very straight forward, and learning chapter concepts, coincide very well with the content. You cant passively learn the content, but the content isnt terribly difficult if you learn chptr defs and learn with others
By far one of the nicest teachers I have had. He is not respected in the classroom and its a little sad because he is such a caring person. Overall, assignments are pretty easy. You can watch his videos online and complete them with ease. He is a little old asian man, but you can understand him after two classes. His attendance codes are hilarious!
Good class. Teacher not so good at answering questions. The class is easy because simulations would just show us how to use Microsoft Excel. Exercises, projects, and tests are exactly alike. You definitely need the online textbook.
He is the WORST professor or teacher I have ever had, and I have had some pretty bad ones. He is honestly rude and does not care about his students. I have had family issues while taking his class and he did NOT care or cut me ANY sort of slack. I regret taking this class so much with every ounce in me.
I wouldn't take him if I had another option. He literally reads directly off the slides word-for-word and has very little dialogue outside of class. Why am I even required to attend class if I can read the slides on my own? You are pretty much teaching yourself when taking his class.
Hood class was very easy. Literally walked you through the weekly assignments. The test werent that hard you just have to go to class and do your weekly work. He can be hard to understand at times though
The class itself isn't very hard, but the professor is hard to understand because of his accent. He does the homework for you in class and posts the class lectures online if you miss class. There are at least 3 homework assignments every week. There are 6 tests if you take the optional final, but they aren't hard if you've done the homework.
Class is graded by about 4 or 5 tests, optional final. Ming is a really nice guy but can be dry and confusing at times. Tests are pretty straightforward, he doesn't try to trick you at all. Paying attention and keeping up in class is enough to do well on tests
The course is pretty much easy if you come to class. Much of the case exercises and practice exams are similar to the exams. Most of the class is spent working on case exercises.
He is very hard to understand, but you can tell he cares about his students. He usually curves the exams but you definitely need to read the questions from the textbook and the PowerPoint on Canvas if you want to do well.
He is an OK professor at best. The test were rather difficult because they had nothing to do with what we learned. Projects are vague so ask him exactly about what he expects. Ended up getting a C after failing the class for most of the semester. The final, presentation, and extra credit assignment saved me.
Lectures are hard to understand and the projects given for homework are confusing, difficult, and never-ending.
Ascent is hard to understand, but nice guy. Make sure to finish all the hw and small projects then you will be fine.
Most of the students rating here couldn't understand him due to his Asian accent which I believe is not something he should be rated for. The course is designed for the students to learn C# and it's tough for students with no coding experience. Overall self-study and doing programs is the key to getting good grades in this class.
This professor is very unprofessional and hard to understand. He is not very understanding of people's circumstances. I would not recommend this professor to any of my friends.
Unwilling to accommodate due to illnesses ect, even with proper doctor's notes. If you have a problem going to him will make no change. Very hard to understand, doesn't know what he is talking about himself half the time.
This professor is not very respectful of or understanding of his students, who are typically grown adults. He doesn't teach in an effective manner and is extremely rude and petty when it comes to things that are not a big deal like attendance, even though we are paying to take his horrible class. Overall would never recommend.
he's a nice guy, but you cannot understand him. it's not his accent either, he's had surgery or something so his voice is hoarse and quiet. i am so confused and lost and when i ask questions, i cant understand the answers so there's no winning. im prepared to fail this class because how can i pass if i cant understand the prof
Professor seems like a decent guy, but he has a throat infection or some condition that prevents him from speaking clearly which makes it nearly impossible to understand him. The exams have coding problems which are ON PAPER. The lack of debugging or ability to test your code makes these sections incredibly difficult since you don't know what works
Professor is almost inaudible. Seems like a nice guy but I have no clue what he is saying. Only doing well in the class because the modules explain the material. He uses a microphone since his voice is quiet and horse but it only seems to make it worse. I never understand him when he asks a question, which makes it impossible to learn from him.
This class has been ridiculous, to say the least. Firstly, exams are harder and more strenuous than he makes it seem. You cannot understand him at all because he had throat surgery that hasn't healed after more than a year. The way he teaches the chapters isn't in depth, but he assigns projects as if you were a Senior Systems Analyst.
The unfortunate part about this review is that there aren't too many professors that teach the courses he teaches, so you will ultimately end up with him no matter what. His classes consist of lectures that last the entire period, and no one pays attention to him because, quite frankly, he is incredibly hard to understand.
Never in my 16 years in education have I had a teacher as bad. Why not show us how to use the programs instead of hours of lecturing that's hard to understand?
I'm not sure why his rating is so low. He is a good professor that has a passion for what he does and cares about his students. Pay attention and do your work and you'll be just fine. He curves the grades and provides ample explanation if needed. I've taken two different courses from him and I would do it again. One of my favorite professors!!!
Honestly I feel bad. He's inaudible and I can understand him 5% of the time. He had throat surgery last year but nothing changed (Took him before the surgery) Exams are long and hard to finish, you need to study everything cause though he gives a guide, it's massive. Lots of projects that build off each other too, but his feedback makes no sense.
Prof. gets more hate than he deserves. He gives you at least 75% of the exam ahead of time with his study guide and he will say in class what examples will be on your exam. Exams are 60% of your grade--just study and pay attention to what he says. 35% of the grade is group projects--nothing that difficult, but don't procrastinate on them either.
Professor Huang was a decent professor, you can do well in his course if you show up and pay attention. The Professor is unfortunately very difficult to understand due to a medical condition. This can definitely make it difficult for some to excel in his course. Grading wise there is lots of opportunities to ensure you do well in this course.
I feel bad for the professor, as he had a surgery that makes him almost impossible to understand. The class is easy and he provides videos on how to do the case exercises and answers for everything. Take online if you can, in person is a waste of time since you don't need the lecture to complete the work because it is all online
He has speech problems and can barely speak English. Cannot understand a word he says. Stay away
Can not understand him. Doesnt care to explain things when you ask. The overall class is repetitive and tedious. The tests and final exam are very hard to score high in. many weekly assignments that are very long and take up so much of your time. All of that work to have my A in the class dropped to a B because the tests allowed no time.
Prof was lowkey was a super villian. Lessons were hard to follow because you CANT UNDERSTAND HIM. Pretty sure he has a conditon but hes literally inaudible and sounds like hes speaking in tounges (no shade). Though responsive to emails, he didn't offer extra credit or flexibility. People in other classes passed while many of my classmates failed
He is a decent professor. Although it can be hard to understand him, as long as you show up to class and pay attention, you will do good. He also will take the time to answer any questions you have.
He is a genuinely nice guy but his deadlines are very strict. He tries to teach but because of the vocal barrier, people cannot understand him. His study guides are half of the exams and notes will definitely help you succeed.
Because of his throat surgery, its really difficult to understand anything he says. His attendance is also graded, but coming to class is kinda pointless. Other than that, assignments and project are easy. Just make sure to study for the exam because its in person and proctored. Missing class might take about a point off your grade so nothing major
Very hard to understand, but he does his job and that's pretty much it. Although if you're interested in learning C# beyond class materials, he is not the guy who will help you with personal projects. He's just there to do his job and leave. If you have a real interest in coding, you should probably talk to someone else. Easy class though.
my advice to you is to take another professor if possible, because this professor thinks that the world is about him and his class. he's very strict on attendance and grading. tests and homeworks are hard as hell, he expects you to be a professionel programmer or something.
Hard to understand him (throat surgery + foreign accent). Lots of programs (hw) and practices. some pop up 1 or 2 days before due date. Lot of quizzes. 3 Exams. Group project with very unclear instructions. Would not recommend.
Good luck ;)
This guy should not be teaching. Literally cannot understand a word he says. He is not reasonable at all
This guy should not be a professor, if the dean some how runs across this please evaluate this man in his position because this class in the summer is the equivalent to banging your head on a brick wall!
"Easy, Right?"
Professor Huang is a very sweet and a great professor! He is willing to help you with anything you may need! The work in his class does take some time but it is multiple attempts so if you don't do good the first time you can always retry! Would recommend this professor!!
He is really not that difficult to understand, the class is all visual so just watch the board and you'll be fine. Class work is not difficult but can be time consuming. The test are done outside of class and have multiple submission attempts to let you know what you got wrong.
This class was very hard to grasp on. You can hardly understand him when he talks as he's has voice surgery and all the excel things were pre recorded so be ready to take another 30 minutes to an hour to understand what he said. The grading scale was okay as the final isn't worth a ton but all the main assignments make up most. Not lenient
Class was entirely online-based, with clear-cut grading criteria and course schedule. Inexplicably, however, Dr. Huang took attendance every class. All of the material was about using Excel, and was very easy to self-teach. To make matters worse, lectures were nothing but study hall since his demonstrations on the board are utterly useless.
