Nice personality, willing to help students with any problems. I really dont like his method of teaching at begining of semester(reading from the slides), however, his teaching has improved a lot later, we even have games on the lecture! Great Job Prof. Deng!
Professor Deng is a really good professor, I highly recomend taking his class. He is very clear when teaching and is always available outside of class in case u need extra help with something.
he's one of the most understanding professor I have ever met in my college carrer, very helpful and clear, he also gives sample exams b4 hand.
very nice person. i took his class during summer time. HW were fair, and midterms were similar to the practice one, except the final. most exciting part was that i did not use the text book bcz he already explained everything @ class. i will take him if he happen to teach higher acc.

I went from an F to an A with this guy, he is super easy and very helpful. He went over anything we didnt understand and his tests were almost the same as his practice tests (same problems, different numbers). I would take him for 2203 also, but he doesnt teach it.

Hard to understand, if you are not sitting within the front 3 rows, you will not be able to listen or pay attention. Midterm is fair and final is way to hard. Has weird rules and is not very clear with his grading system.
Midterm (25%), Final (35%), 2 online quizes (15%), online HW (15%) & presentation (15%). Seemed like a fair teacher throughout the midterm and the semester until the final came....Had an A going into the final exam, got a 50 (Class average was a 60%). Gave out a sample final which was nothing like the actual final... Started out well, ended ugly
HE DIDN'T MAKE THE FINAL! It was the department final and out of everyone's surprise, it was almost impossible to achieve a decent grade w/o understanding the entire book thoroughly. But he managed to give out big curve that made my final grade lookable. Ming made it clear of his grading system which was helpful. Teaching style I'd give 7/10.
Just read the book. I did well on this class because i was interested in the material! Lecture really did not help much, my recitation professor was better than him at explaining. Overall he was not a horrible professor, but his lectures were bland. Take him if you are willing to put the effort and learn on your own.
The professor's accent is TERRIBLE but it really doesn't matter. Go to recitation and read the textbook and you will understand everything. Only drawback was that the midterm was almost identical to the practice one he gave but the final was completely different and difficult.
when he reads the slides,it's too fast and not clear.the midterm and final was nothing like the problems from online hwk. midterm was like 20-ish questions ABCD options. final was 50 questions ABCDE option. hard. 40% of the class got a D/F grade. the final exam average was 60%. there are 2 online quizzes,3 types of online hwk.group recitation proj.
What can you say about a class that almost everyone failed in? But I can say one thing though; the professor is not to blame. Professor Deng is a commendable man. He listened to all my needs and got me from a C- to a B+. If you speak to him during his office hours, he will see you are trying. But you need to study from day 1 and split the material!
This professor worked really hard in order for every student to understand the material. He gave great examples during class, gave us practice midterm and finals and even curved the grades. Accounting is not easy, but if you put in the effort you will definitely succeed in Ming's class. A brilliant man, and an excellent professor. Highly recommend!
Professor Deng is the best! He is one of the hardest working professors and he cares about his students. Gives 3 assignments every week, but they really help you to understand accounting. Sent us an email after every class. Answered every email, could be reached during office hours. Overall, he inspired me to become an accountant.
Lectures-300 ppl.Recitation sessions are in smaller classes,&helpful.A midterm and Final are super hard.Most ppl scored low 50s on Final and lower.Professor curves, though.However,you won't know it until you see.Each gets some weird calculation of the grade.Personal preferences or something.Be in this list and get 10 points more than others.
People who say this class is easy are joking.Midterm/Final are very hard.Online HW and lectures on Connect are easy but time consuming.Honestly I don't think this has a big influence on your grade even if you try hard and everything gets done (100%).This is for your own practice.More than a half of the class failed the exam.Curves isn't consistent.
He said accounting was very difficult in the beginning of the year and to do well put in at least 10 hours a week. Those who are complaining obviously didn't listen. It wouldn't be easier with Deng.
This is a difficult class. Exams are designed to make you fail and grades are competitively determined. Professor Deng gives thorough lectures but they are very monotonous and his accent is thick. If you need a very clear teacher, find someone else.
Avoid! This professor cannot teach. He read off from slides and his exams are made for students to fail. Have to self-learn and go to 3 different tutors to learn. This is ridiculous!
His accent is horrible. I had trouble understanding him all semester. the recitation teacher was much better than him. I once asked him a question after class and he wasnt helpful. he said just refer to the textbook
This was a very challenging class, and the professor isn't the problem. It is designed that way, so he just has to follow the grading rules. Midterm was doable, final - very hard. Try to redo all Learnsmart modules and h/w before the exams - will be beneficial. Otherwise, I liked the professor - very nice and helpful!
His accent is a bit rough but he's helpful if needed. You don't learn in his class because it is impossible to learn accounting in a 300+ student lecture hall. Read the book.
Like everyone said he teach a 300+ students. He always respond to emails and questions if you have them. He is really monotone but if you just read the book and practice as much as you can than the Exams are doable. Some were tricky but it really up to you in putting the time. This class isnt hard at all just based on how much effort you will to do
Great professor, give clear direction, do practice problems in class for each topic, the test are similar to what is explain in class. There are no surprises. If you attend class and listen, takes notes, and do the homework you will be fine.
this professor isn't a bad guy but his instruction is hard to follow sometimes and his clarifications don't make sense often enough to aid material comprehension
Prof Ming is a great teacher. He has an accent but you'll get past that. He uploads the class notes onto Blackboard and it helps A LOT. His explanation in class could be better, but it's not bad at all. Always available to help you either through email or office hours. Would take again.
Professor Deng is a good at what he does. He provides notes for every chapter, but studying based on his notes will get you like a C+. You know accounting is based on the department's forced distribution. If you put the extra effort of READING the book, doing his PRACTICE exams, and EMAILING him to clarify any questions, then B+ to A is achievable
Professor Deng is arguably one of the most fair professors in the Accounting Department. He uploads lecture notes (make sure you read the book as well because there's material that goes in depth) and practice exams on Blackboard. He also responds to questions and concerns quickly. If you put in the effort, an A is definitely achievable.
I can't understand this guy at all. This is a lecture class and it's impossible to understand what comes out of his mouth. He has such a strong accent, that it's very difficult to distinguish what he's even saying. He rushes through his slides while most of us have no clue as to what he's saying because we can't understand him.
I can't understand a single thing this professor says in class. His notes are all over the place and one class we even took more than an hour going through the same thing over and over. The orion assignments are horribly hard, especially without the proper information learnt from the lecture. textbook doesn't help either. unnecessarily hard class.

He is an okay professor. His lecture is kinda messy, and I really have a hard time to concentrate in his class. However, if you study for the exam, and understand everything that is on his ppt, you will be fine. Just do the work, you will pass.
THIS GUY'S ACCENT IS EXTREMELY THICK. Sure he doesn't take attendance, but you can learn more from studying on your own than attending his terrible lectures.
The lectures were understandable and was easier to understand than the textbook. But reading the textbook is still a must. He responds to emails quickly and is willing to help. His accent isn't even a problem to be honest since I usually give up trying to understand people who have bad accents.. This class isn't too bad as long as you work for it.
His accent isn't that bad to me, his lectures sometimes help but honestly I learned more in recitation. I would suggest to just self study and do a lot of the orion questions. 2 quizes, 1 midterm 1 final (departmental) the grading policy will be explained on the first class, only 15% of students can get an A as per the accounting department
Professor Deng is a very dedicated teacher and is more than willing to help his students. He comes to class prepared and his notes are very detailed and concise. His lectures are helpful in understanding the topic better, however you need to attend Recitation and read the textbook as well as self study if you really want to do well in this class.
You can tell he puts a lot of effort into teaching as he his notes for class are so well made. He always sends emails after class to go over what we have learned. This class seemed daunting at first, but actually wasn't as long as you follow along and study. It is just not easy to get a A as only 15% of the class will get As.
This professor may be caring in the social aspect but in the academic aspect he is severely lacking. Must learn how to speak english in order to teach a class of 300 students. Ridiculous grading hierarchy that downcurves students. Lectures not helpful at all. Honestly learned everything needed in this class from my recitation class.
Run! If you have no choice but choosing this professor, take it another semester. He's responsive to emails, but doesn't teach any conceptual work to help you pass squat in this class. The class is hard, but aren't professors supposed to be there to teach you the concepts of knowing what you're doing? Don't expect to learn that in this class.
This class was fair... except the final was HARD. I mean... Professor Deng is a good professor, but the material is hard to understand unless you put in the extra work. I mean if you end up stuck with him just study hard because he is not that bad.
Terrible professor. AVOID MING AT ALL COSTS. It's rather appalling that this man was given a teaching job at an English speaking college. I can't understand a word this guy said. Had to self teach practically everything, as I learned more from the 50 minute recitation than his 2 hour lecture. A lot of homework that doesn't really help for the tests, and the final was unbelievably hard. Avoid.
Two exams. If you fail the midterm, hmmm,he will still help you pass the class. Super fast email responding. Dont be afraid to ask him anything. He will reply as soon as possible. want a A? study as hard as you can. Take him, no regret.
ACC 2101 is a difficult class, no matter what professor you decide to take. Professor Deng does try to teach as much as he can in the time available, however there must be self-study as well. Try to ace the homework assignments/quizzes, because the final is departmental and extremely difficult (he curves). Keep in mind the strict ACC grading system
I HATE ACC. Finance major here this class drops my GPA. But midterms were fairly easy and then you have the final which is hell. My recitation professor was amazing though tu something was his name. Prof Deng has a super heavy accent Im asian and I have a hard time understand. STUDY, TUTOR do whatever you have to cause it's base on a curve.
GPA KILLER- My 4.0 was killed by this class. I was doing super well in the class up until the final- ming found a way to stray from the departmental exam and make his own insanely hard and unfair final. I failed the final despite the fact that i did well (over 90) on the midterm and studied nonstop. Ended me with a C+ and destroyed my GPA. AVOID!
Professor Ming is somewhat though to understand due to his bad English combined with the fact that it is a jumbo class. No matter your professor, accounting is competitive at Baruch, period. Take use of homework+textbook and the recitation class, they are very important. Pay attention to what you recitation professor lectures and ask questions.
This class itself is not too bad. But realize, this is accounting at Baruch. Baruch has to maintain its competitive position in the business world, so this class can be insanely difficult depending on how well your peers do. Lectures were pointless. All I did was read from the textbook, do the practice ORION questions, and I got an A.
You probably won't understand 90% of what he says in lecture straight up. I'd recommend going to lecture because the more you are around the material the better even if you only learn one thing. You have to pay attention in recitation and read every chapter. Also do a TON of Orion problems they will help and are similar to whats on the tests.
I went to class twice all semester and still got an A. Just read the lectures everything you need is online. Study! Material is tough, but he explains it well. Heavy accent!
Accounting is a tough course and this professor doesn't make it any better. His lectures are so dull and confusing that most people just cut the lecture. Recitation will be your savior in this course. Read the textbook because it'll definitely be better than his lectures. Always do the Learnsmart and online assignments. Overall, professor sucked :/
Worst Professor I've ever taken. His lectures are so boring and his heavy accent makes it more difficult to understand if u sit at the back. Mostly he's not prepared for his lectures, so you have to study on your own for the mid and final. Recitation sometimes works but not always. If given the chance of taking this professor again, I would drop!

Unclear speech, huge lecture hard which makes it hard to even want to pay attention, hard midterm and final you must put in all your time and days into study for accounting if you want a really good grade. Messed up my gpa
All accounting classes at Baruch are difficult. And this course is no different. Lots of online assignments, excel projects, very difficult midterm and final. I believe Professor Deng did his best trying to explain difficult concepts to a large auditorium of students. Do the homework, go to class/recitation, study, and the tutoring center helps.
His accent is bearable. ACC is very difficult!! He doesn't take attendance but it is better to attend classes b/c he would go over examples of how to record an entry. The midterm& final was extremely hard. You MUST READ the textbook. The interactive lec helps, I read the transcript instead of watching the whole video.
He is very nice. Not easy to understand his language at all. They claim grades are based on ranking however that is including the students that drop the course. The lectures are very hard to understand and most people stop showing up after a few weeks. If you can't learn the material on your own or have other hard classes you will need a good prof
The course itself is difficult you cannot blame the professor. He is hard to understand at times but he will clarify if you do not understand. If you want to do well in this class you have to study. He even said that students who study 10 hours a week have a better chance if getting an A. Attendance is not mandatory but going helps.

He says you should devote 10 hours a week in order to get a good grade but we have other things to so ofc that wont happen. The course itself is challenging. Just sit in class and listen to what he says. Your recitation professor can make a huge difference in what you understand. The midterm and final are departmental so they are much harder than the material that is covered in class. The curve helps to bring your grade up but makes it a lot more competitive.
His grading policy is clear and the grades are curved. The course is challenging so it doesn't help that his lectures are sometimes straight from the powerpoint. You can still do great if you do the online assignment and practice problems by yourself.

He explains the main topics clearly from each chapter. You can learn from his lectures and save the time for reading the book to understand. If you don't wanna read the book, I will say don't skip the class even he didn't take attendance.
this was honestly the most challenging class i've ever taken. however, if you read the textbook it is easy to understand. the tests are extremely difficult though no matter how much you think you understand the topics. grading is based on a curve and depends on how you do compared to others. good luck :)
Hardest class I've taken, but possible to pass with a good grade. I failed the midterm with a 45 but ended up passing the class with a B. Granted I studied for the final for weeks as soon as I got my grade back from the midterm, the other homeworks and projects brought my grade up. Just make sure you go to class, pay attention, and seriously study.
Difficult class for most in general cause they just want to get it out of the way. I loved his lectures, but he doesn't take attendance, so most people wouldn't come. He cares, and may have a thick accent, but if you care and pay attention to him, you should be good.
Mainly graded on online assignments, midterms, and final. Class is graded on a curve so definitely hope your class is not that smart. Professor Deng is hard to understand and your recitation professor will likely be more helpful in teaching accounting than him. Don't go to the lectures if you don't want to because there is no attendance taken. 5/10

Fully online course - performance is based on your own effort. Did not interact with the professor often, but when I emailed him any questions I had, he replied almost immediately. If you do not study, you will NOT get a good grade. Overall, take this class if you're good at teaching yourself. Only 15% of the class can get an A/A-.
It's online, so you essentially have to teach yourself. There are Illustrated Lectures, Learnsmart assignments, and HW, all of which have different due dates, so if you don't keep track you'll fall behind. Study the PPTs and the textbook and do the practice exams if you want even a chance of passing the midterm and final. Both were ranked.
Take an E-permit. Not worth it if you actually care about your GPA. Nothing you can do to get around it. Unless you can teach yourself, dedicate extreme amounts of time to this class, and read the textbook, I wouldn't recommend this class. Otherwise, knock yourself out.
You basically teach yourself because the videos he posts are the same ones the textbook provides you with which just explain an overall concept but aren't good for fully understanding the topic. We used Connect instead of Cengage which I think was a mistake because you get no feedback and basically have to guess until you get the right numbers.
Accounting is hard so you have to work hard if you want a good grade. The class was completely online. Your grade is based on online HMW, midterm and a final. The online lectures are good and prepare you for the exams. Professor is accessible outside of class. Take him and study hard. You won't be disappointed
I took the online class for the course and essentially you have to teach yourself all the material. All HWs are due every Wednesday but you must study each HW chapter to even pass. I studied a decent amount before the midterm and final and my grade got curved to a B+.
I took this course online and if you're responsible and able to self-study, you'll get an A. 1/3 of the grade is based off of the weekly online homework. Professor Deng sends encouraging emails every time he uploads homework grades like "You're doing great!"
I'd say this class is a true test to see whether you can teach yourself or not. If you're not consistently attentive or start getting lazy, then most likely you will struggle. I did decent in this class, but I wouldn't take it again. I felt that it could be taught a lot easier; so much conceptual problems which ends up being confusing for tests.
With ACC2101 get. ready. to. read. ��. Class is not easy, very difficult in fact as its usually your first introduction to accounting. The key to passing this class? BUY THE BOOK AND READ IT. I cant stress this enough. Prof. Deng provides study slides but its hard to understand and impossible to memorize due to how accounting works. Hard class!
You will essentially teach yourself the entire class but if you commit to it, an A is doable. The lectures weren't helpful for me but you have to read the textbook and take thorough notes. Go to review sessions if you can. The prof gives out plenty of resources. Just take advantage of them and you will be fine. Good luck.
If you can sit down and study every week for 3-4 hrs this class is an easy A. There is no live class so all the material needs to be self-taught. His lectures are awful and useless, but if you put in the effort to read the book (necessary) and do the online assignments (35% of grade), one can easily get an A. **A lot of office hours!!
The class is essentially self-taught. I never watched a single lecture tbh all I did was do the video hws, hws, and quizzes which were easy bc you had the check my work button. For the exams, Id do the practice exams and watch the video solutions for those. Theres ode office hours available so its really a grade based on the effort you put in
Not very flexible, especially considering the circumstances. In general the course was overloaded and there's not even a live lecture online. Just a review on the weekends. Many of the issues I have with this course stems from the Baruch Acct Dept as a whole, but the professor was not any better.
Seems like a sweet professor and even gives reminders if you didn't submit hw yet and the due date is approaching. Definitely have to self-study and use the textbook.
This is a very straight forward ONLINE class. You're pretty much teaching yourself. Everything is provided to you (review packets, review videos etc) you just have to put in the work. This class is very challenging and dense. The summer version is a lot of material in a short amount of time but its s doable. If I had a choice, take it in person.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. THEY WILL NEVER ANSWER YOUR EMAILS THEY WILL NEVER GET BACK TO YOU. LITERALLY IF YOU GO THROUGH ANY ISSUES WITH CONNECT (WHERE YOU DO HWS AND EXAMS) HE IS USELESS. YOUR GRADE WILL BE MESSED UP FOR STUPID ERRORS ON THAT WEBSITE. USELESS PROFESSOR IF THEY IGNORE THEIR STUDENTS EMAILS!! I WISH I COULD REPORT THIS PROFESSOR.
One of the worst professors at Baruch, out of 1300 students majority only score in the 70 range on the midterms. This guy should be fired, his voice is unclear in the lectures, a sin to the accounting dept
The textbook will teach you everything . If you are taking this class asynchronous he posts lectures but textbook is priority. Do the practice problems in the textbook too. They are excellent to prepare you for the exams. It is a lot of content, so be sure to study regularly. HW is easy as long as you did the textbook reading.
dude is paid $100,000+ to sit there and basically just put in SAM grades since everything else is automatically graded.

So many Assignments, SAM, HW, Videos, Quizzes, midterm, and final. I really thought I would pull off with an A or A- by doing very well but ended with a B+. When I emailed him he says, he understands and can't change the grade bc if he changed it for me then he would have to change it for everyone else as well. That makes no sense, as I deserve a A
The grade you receive is based off the final, homework and midterm mostly. The class was hard. I would avoid him.
He is a very nice professor; he responds to emails and is very understanding. I definitely would retake him, but the class is very challenging. Be ready to spend a lot of time working on your own and teaching yourself
Asych class, so you're going to have to teach yourself. This is for most of the ACC courses. He was a nice person who responds to emails fairly quick. The class is challenging but that's not his fault. You have to put in the effort to do really good. I'd take him again since he was very transparent and clear with his announcements. Be ready to work
This course was asynchronous and all of the work and tests were done online. The homework was basic and tedious, though I have to admit that it was somewhat useful to learn from. I didn't really need recitation meeting or lecture videos because the homework and textbook were enough. There was no extra credit or exam curve.

Accounting is pretty hard as a whole but Professor Deng is very supportive and helpful in making sure you understand the concepts.
There are pros and cons. First of all, when you ask Professor a simple question, he'll flip it around and ask you sarcastically instead. He cannot express a concept in a clear and concise manner. I recommend teaching yourself early on, the connect HW's are super helpful and have videos. Acc2101 is not tough if you teach yourself!! Good luck.

I genuinely spent a week studying practice exams for this class, and I still failed the final. Do not take him for a 4 hour class on a Friday because he will make a quiz due every week basically. He doesn't do extra credit, participation isn't counted (the quizzes though), but hey the curve was good.
If you study, an A is achievable. The lectures are really long but he does highlight material that's going to be on the exams. Weekly exams but attendance is not mandatory. Very understanding professor, answers emails.
