His English is not the best, but you can get used to it. He's also very willing to help if you are having difficulties
he's a good teacher.
His English is not very good but he is still a very effective teacher. He is very nice and very helpful.
You have tests and case studys. No quizzes. Attendance is taken. Smart/funny/nice guy but very challenging course. Heavy accent. I'm bad at math and got a C in the course. He insulted a student infront of everyone one day. Lets you use a cheat sheet for tests. Encourages group work on case studys. Hes Ok, but find easier proff is possible.
Cannot understand, does not explain material clearly.Save headache and take diff prof.Does allow 1pg cheat on summer tests. You must teach yourself when taking his class. Summer horrible experience.
This is a class you will have to teach to yourself because its very hard to make out the material he is teaching, best bet if you want to save time and money or get what you pay for, pick a different professor.
This is an easy class if you really pay attention to what he is teaching. He gives a lot real life examples. Also, you need to have certain math skills. Overall, he is a good professor.
He is impossible to understand and the classes don't provide much...this is a class you will have to teach yourself in. HOWEVER, he is helpful and a nice guy...he allowed me to make up a test because I had to be with mum during her cancer. Work hard and you'll be ok. AGAIN, not an easy subject but nice guy who will work with you.Study hard, kids.
No one can understand his accent; its too thick and he has a lisp and mumbles. You will be lost almost 90% of the time in class.Should be easy, but this guy makes it so difficult you'll feel like it's calculus 3. Assigns too much homework with no concept of how long it takes to do it. Grades hard and the final is cumulative and worth 40% grade!
Very hard to understand his accent and tests are extremely long; no one ever finishes. However he tries his hardest to help out test grades, he posts prior tests to study by and adds points if he sees the average is low. The homework is only 10% but it will help your grade in the end.
Accent is heavy, but will become clear after a few days. Tests are difficult and long, however allows to use notes, (even prior semester tests).
You will have trouble understanding him at first. The tests are intense but he does everything he can to help you understand the material.
Let me start by saying that the class is not for slackers. The work is long and tedious but Professor Sun does a great job of making sure students understand the steps and helps you in any way he can. If you want to pass the class make sure to show up ready to work and take very good notes. Made an A in the class
The class is not easy, and his accent doesnt make it any easier. However, a cheat sheet and the book is allowed during the test and he has sample tests from previous semesters posted on BB which are almost the same as the ones he'll give you. He's pretty awesome, but i hear Massaro is better for stats1
DO NOT TAKE HIM, HIS ACCENT IS SOOO HEAVY I COULDN'T UNDERSTAND ANYTHING!!!!!! - this is even after sitting front row... I wouldn't recommend him just because of his accent... it's not worth spending so much for tuition just to get a teacher you cannot understand!!
Mr Sun does have an accent but it's not as bad as some of the people reviewing here would lead you to believe. This is one of the hardest classes in the business core knowledge and I think he's a great teacher. You do have to show up. To class and study hard but the past exams are online and he gives extra credit. Not a class for slackers
At first hard to understand but you get used to it quickly. lets you use book and notes on test, quizzes are easy and cases are very easy. sit up front because his writing is small sometimes. takes attendance sometimes.
Easy class as long as you attend class and take good notes. He does have a strong accent. He's very friendly and helpful. He gives good example on how to use the material in the outside world.
He does take attendance first off. He is hard to understand at first, but as long as everyone is quiet and pays attention, it's easy to overcome. He did curve, but it wasn't until the end, so I was worried about what exactly my grade was going to be. Practice the previous exams!
Do NOT believe what some of these other reviews are saying. I looked at his ratings when registering last term and it seemed like he would be a great teacher, but these reviews could not be further from the truth. He is so unbelievably hard to understand, he doesn't offer hardly and help outside of class, and his lectures are not helpful at all.
Do not take this professor. Seriously, you cannot understand a single word he says, he is unclear on his grading criteria, he is rude and does not offer any help to students, and assigns homework with no clear due date. The only reason I passed this class was because he allows cheat sheets on the tests and he curves random assignments.
You won't understand much of what he says but he lets you use cheat sheets on the test and puts up past exams on blackboard. Literally you can just go through the past exams (write a cheat sheet on them) and ace all the tests. Doesn't give out much homework either. Attendance isn't really needed but he gives extra points for it. Plus he is a nice.
An A is very possible. I won't lie, the class is quite difficult, but as long as you attend class (extra credit), do the homework, and take the practice exams prior to the actual exam (you can use a cheat sheet), you will do well. He also gives out case studies for almost every chapter that can be long and tedious but only count for 10%.
Got an A in stats 1 and 2, but this guy was not a good teacher at all. He is incredibly genius, however it is his downfall, because if you do not understand it, (and you won't because of his thick accent and immense rate of talking) and you come to him for help, he will not help you. Not a very helpful, or clear professor. Do not Recommend.
DO NO RECOMMEND - GIVES 3 TESTS, 90% OF YOUR GRADE - NO EXTRA CREDIT WORK. TESTS ARE LONG & TAKE MORE THAN THE CLASS TIME TO COMPLETE. NOT HELPFUL AT ALL & NEITHER WAS HIS TA & SI. NOT SURE WHAT MY FINAL GRADE WILL BE BUT I MADE NEED TO RETAKE DESPITE COMPLETING THE ASSIGNMENTS ON SYLLABUS & ONLINE REQUIRED WORK - FOR THE ADDTL 10% . LONG TESTS!
Extremely easy, almost your entire grade is from 3 tests that are open book and open note. Don't need to show up, he posts all his notes online, and posts test reviews that are exactly the same questions on the test, just copy them in your notes and you have all the answers for the test. Lectures are long and has a very thick accent though.
Attendance is taken for a grade, he has a thick accent that is hard to understand, and there is a lot of homework. HOWEVER, there is NO FINAL, all tests are open notes & book, and practice tests are posted up which are exactly the same as the test. Overall, he was a good professor! I would take him again.
Hard to understand at first, but you get used to it. Gives you sample test that are similar to the test. Gives you extra credit for showing up to class. Attend class if you want to understand the material and know what's going on. He was clear, would take him again
His notes are very clear and easy to understand. Quizzes and practice problems come directly from the notes. He provides sample tests from the year before, and they are the tests but with different numbers. The tests are 90% of your grade, but if you do the practice tests you'll be fine. He does have a Chinese accent, but its easy to understand.
at the beginning, his lectures are confusing but eventually you'll get use to it. Exams are almost the same as the sample tests so make sure to study that. Copy all the notes so you can answer the quizzes. Make sure to do all practice problems and quizzes. he gives you a point everytime you show up to class.
Professor Sun is a great professor! He is hard to understand at first but you'll get used to it. Do all your HW, quizzes and attend class. Tests are open notes! He gives sample tests identical to actual test just with different numbers
Professor Sun is a great teacher, don't get me wrong. My only complaint is that we didn't have enough time to take the exams (90% of your grade by the way). Even though he lets you use notes on the tests, do not, i repeat DO NOT rely on them for the whole test otherwise you will definitely run out of time if you keep looking in your notes for help.
Decent professor but a hard class. Very hard accent but if you come to class often you will begin to understand him. He makes the test too long to ever finish and i would study a minimum of an hour a day. He really pissed me off at the end of the semester when i was .23 of a point awayy from a B in his class but he wouldn't bump me.
Prof Sun has a very thick accent that is very hard to understand. He gives you sample tests that are MOSTLY identical to the exams. I was .4 away from an A and he wouldn't round me up. Came in already taking a stats class in high school, and the material was still difficult. I would recommend only to those who are already good at math and stats.
He takes attendance at every class. You should show up anyway if you want to understand what's going to be on the test. He'll post the notes online, but you should still show up because he explains it well. He allows you 1 cheat sheet and you can glance at your notes and book. I would recommend him.
Hard to understand but very funny. Gives you last semesters exam for go you to practice. Sooooo many quizzes and homework. All online. Overall good class to take and pass.
Dr. Sun is very genuine and has the longest tenure of any professor at UTSA. There is no issue with his accent because he writes down & posts, word-for-word, all lecture notes and textbook. Posts all 3 exams from prior semester and changes only the #s for the current semester. Open book, open notes, open previous exams for all tests! Amazing!
The class is made up of 3 exams worth 90% of your grade. He posts every exam with different numbers on BB. The tests are open note and nook. Do the sample tests on notebook paper completely worked out, take them to the exam and get an A in the class. The people complaining on here deserved their bad grade.
Just take write down everything he writes down. You don't even need to understand him, because I couldn't, but the problems he uses in his notes are like his tests. Also, do the sample tests, they are 95% like the test! Lots of homework though, some of the quizzes he gives you are longer than 50 questions, but gives you like two weeks to work on
Professor Sun was one of my most favorite professors here at UTSA. His class is super was fun and his lectures where really good. He likes to make jokes which makes your day better. Don't believe the bad reviews, this guy is a straight genius.
Literally my favorite teacher I've ever had. The only reason I would find his class difficult is because he has a thick Chinese accent
He's trying to finish our class before thanksgiving so he can go to a conference. He's going way too fast in my opinion and all the material is mushing together. This is really frustrating when trying to study for the exam because the material you are learning doesn't match up. Would not recommend him.
Took this class over the summer. I didn't like MS1023 but loved this class. He makes it easier to understand and you can really relate the problems to the real world. He's available if you need help and really takes the time to make sure you understand. His tests are structured like the sample but you have to be familiar with all methods. Take him.
Just show up, take notes, and do your online homework/quizzes. There are a lot of online quizzes, but only 5-10 questions each. He goes through sooo much material each class, so don't be late and don't leave early. 3 exams, but you can make up a cheat sheet or open the book if you need it. Don't take too long on the exam; not a whole lot of time.
Can be hard to understand with his accent. He goes over everything and you just copy it down. Test reviews are pretty much the test with different numbers.
Very thick accent and sloppy handwriting. He is super funny though and clearly very knowledgeable. However I found that he made things WAY more complicated than they actually are. I used chegg and Khan Academy to teach myself (never went to class) and ended up with an A in the course. He provides sample tests that are the tests so just use those.
EXTREMELY thick accent. sit close. 3 multiple choice tests make up 90% of your final grade. 30% each, so dont skip class. no make up tests, or dropping lowest grade. last 10% is online work and attendance. would NOT take again.
This class was an easy A. The homeworks& quizs are a lot easier if you have the textbook. For the 3 exams you are allowed to make a cheat sheet. He is a great professor. He uses iclicker, so go to class. Also, he does have an accent but after a week or so youll got used to it, plus he writes everything down& posts it on BB.
Pretty easy overall. Went to the class for attendance and taught myself the material before the exam with the example he provides from a previous semester. Good option for any MS course.
Both his accent and handwriting are horrendous; I gave up learning in his class about a week into the course. Learned the information from the SI and by reviewing past tests he posts on Blackboard (which are almost identical to the ones you will take). Overall not too bad -- just you do not learn from the actual professor himself.
it was hard to follow his lectures, bc of heavy accent. 200 people started, only 100 passed? Had an A going into final, got a 66 on final exam, Final test was HORRIBLE& i guessed curved to the hilt? Go to SI sessions it's the reason I passed. Tests are HARD!!!! & he takes attendance for a grade. This course weeds out the losers from COB.
I've taken Sun twice for Stats 1 & 3 and I would recommend him. He has a thick accent, but if you sit close you will learn to understand him. Attendance isn't mandatory, but is EC and it helps to write his notes. You're allowed to use your notes on all 3 exams, so as long as you understand what you wrote and how he got the answers, you're golden.
To be fair, Professor Sun, knows his stuff. However, I could barely understand him. I would attend outside-of-class supplemental instruction hours just to try to keep up. The lectures, I would just try to copy his notes but not be able to make sense of them until it was later explained by someone who's taken Stats.
Sun is smart and so pleasant! He has a thick accent, but uploads all his notes so, you SHOULD be fine. His tests are the Quizzes/pract tests, with little deviation, and his homework is hell because of CENGAGE glitches, but he compensates for that in the long run. Set aside time to learn and it'll be a sure A. Excel portion is difficult.
Takes attendance, but for extra credit. Difficult to understand at first, but you become accustomed to his accent. All homework (some time consuming, so be ready) and quizzes are online and he posts his notes from class. Goes off topic sometimes, but is interesting and funny. Loves beans.
He is pretty difficult to understand. There is a ton of homework and quizzes, but he pushes back the dates so we canget it done on time. I felt as if going to the lectures wasn't always necessary. He also let us use our notes and the test review was the same test with different numbers. need time outside of class to really understand the material
I do not recommend professor Sun. Although he is kind, respectful, and caring, there is too many qualms I have with this class and the way it was run. Extremely homework heavy; the homework is ridden with errors, and is unhelpful to prepare for exams. The exams had way too many questions for the allotted time, thus, you will feel unease and rushed.
Sun cares about making sure you understand the material, so he allows you to use your notes and a cheat sheet during tests. There is a lot of homework done online but he extends the deadlines a lot (sometimes at the last minute.) The tests are very similar to the quizzes and the sample tests. He's very sweet but I recommend to sit in the front.
Great professor but challenging material. He will help you pass.
Professor Sun makes his class as simple and easy as possible. He lectures for the entire class period, gives detailed notes on each topic, and works sample problems on each topic. He also posts the class notes to blackboard, along with sample quizzes and tests. The quizzes are the same problems we work in class and the exams are open notes!
This class can be confusing at first due to his heavy accent but if you go to lectures a lot, do your homework and take notes, be understanding towards him he is a very caring professor that is actually concerned with your grades. Extend deadlines a lot too. Will try his best to get you to pass. Test is open notes but make sure you go to class!
Going to class is pointless. Very difficult to understand, handwriting is terrible, & doesn't explain anything clearly. He takes attendance, not just for extra credit but for an actual grade. Not allowed to use excel on tests, only calculators, but he only uses excel for lectures & doesn't explain how to solve with calc. You have to teach yourself.
This professor is a great person, but you will not be able to understand, read or hear this guy during the lectures. Going to class is extra credit but I gave up on it bc other than the one point a class there's no point. Don't miss assignments and study for test (open notes). Review is exactly the test just different numbers.
Super nice guy, but you won't learn anything in class. Your learning will come from the massive amounts of homework online. Its all worth it though because if you do the quizzes and practice exams you WILL make an A on the exams. AND he allows you to bring notes, samples, really anything. Content isn't hard. If you wanna pass with an A take him.
Dr. Sun is a caring professor. He frequently pushes back homework. The exams are exactly like the sample tests he posts on Blackboard. He lets you use your notes on the exams. Everything is pretty much on Chegg. Attendance is for extra credit. The people who are complaining about not hearing/understanding him are the ones who sit in the back!
If you want an easy A take him! I almost dropped this class the first week because I thought it was too hard. IT'S NOT I PROMISE. Homework and quizzes are on Chegg. if you don't have Chegg the homework is easy if you watch the videos it provides. Exams are easy bc the review is exactly like the exam and you can bring it to the tests. Super easy A.
His attendance was extra credit, people say they can't understand his accent but just follow along with the notes and you'll be fine. Tests are all multiple choice so it makes it so much easier. Taking him again for stats 3.
Pros: -Willing to give extensions on everything! -Tests have curves + open notes! -Very caring and genuinely wants you to pass. Cons: -Heavy accent + soft spoken -Went really fast; was not on pace with the syllabus. The lectures didn't match up with the homeworks/quizzes being assigned. -My SI wasn't helpful :
There are HW and Quiz every week. There are also three tests total, he gives two tries on each test, so that was easy. Overall, the class was very easy. I didnt even stress about it, the tests are just like the quizzes in my experience. It was an easy A.
I have always enjoyed taking this class with this professor. Super kind and helps you out. As long as you work hard, you got this.
Not an easy subject but Professor Sun is always willing to help. Pushes the homework and quizzes to a later date all the time, which is helpful to take more time with the material. The lecture notes for the online class could be better.
An extremely nice professor, always giving extensions. Personally I believe people took advantage of how kind he is. He's always open to all questions and people who say it's hard aren't even trying. For the exams I use excel, it helps A LOT! The quizzes are online and don't have a time limit which is great. Practice tests are similar to exams.
If you have questions ask him, he's more than willing to help. Super nice guy, his accent isn't even bad and he puts up captions so that people can understand him more. Overall a great professor
Prof sun is a good prof with a heavy accent, but i respect him for being able to teach still. He lets you have open notes during tests, sends you a review with answers before a test, and he always allows extensions with quizzes and homework. I took him twice and both times he did the same thing i just listed. TAKE HIM if youre taking stats. EASY A
Professor Sun was a great professor, he extends due dates for HW and quizzes all the time. He also gives answers to all quizzes before the test. Very easy A if you do the work.
Great professor once you get past the heavy accent. A little hard to understand but he ensures to make his class as easy as possible. Knows what he is talking about, would recommend!
Dr. Sun was a good professor overall. He shows his solutions for every problem, extends hw/quizzes, gives extra credit for attendance, shows you how to do it on excel and his exam review is almost identical to the exam. The only downside is that he is a bit hard to understand and he's slightly monotone. But definitely a good teacher.
The best and nicest professor at UTSA. Tests are multiple choices and he gives two attempts. Extends the homework every time students ask him for an extension. Highly recommended.
By far one of the best stats teachers I had took, he extended the class deadlines and cares for his students
Took him for stats 1 and 3. Amazing guy. He is who you want to have. Do the homework and you'll pass. The quizzes are like the homework. The tests are exactly like the quizzes, so if you know how to do the quizzes you are golden for the tests. He will extend anything and cares if you contact him at all. Such a good guy. Glad to have had him.
Professor Sun does not teach! He simply posts old lecture videos that are out of order and are impossible to follow. The homeworks are often confusing and what little help he does have, does not explain how to properly do the assignments. The textbook also does not help at all and this class is turning into a waste of my time.
This professor was a breath of fresh air. He made things very easy and even gives 2 attempts at the quizzes and exams on BB. The second attempt has all the same questions also. You still have to work for a decent grade, but it is much easier with him. I wish I could take him again in the future.
Do not expect to be taught anything in this class. His lecture video are so old and of very poor quality. Doesn't teach at all but don't stress every homework assignment was extended and all the test and quizzes are multiple-choice with multiple attempts. I took in the summer with 3 other classes and managed ok.
I wish that his lecture videos/notes were more up to date, sometimes it's hard to hear or see what the person is writing on the overhead. Overall the homework is fine I guess it's all on your own pace. Also for Tutor ME add some more tutors please I couldn't find anyone or even use Thomas Rivera Center no tutors for the semester
His videos are from 2011 or so from what I gathered. They aren't even 720p videos and when he points down to them it looks very blurry and you can't even tell what he scribbles down. This class won't be very kind to you unless you possibly have to go on campus but for his internet class...no bueno.
Professor Sun has a monopoly on this class which sucks. It's also only available during summer. The material doesn't change but the presentation is heavily outdated. Youtube videos and outside guides will serve you better than what he provides. It's unfortunate that this is the worst class I've ever taken.
You will have to figure out everything yourself because his lectures are from 1999, grainy, and he's accent is really thick so he's hard to understand. However, he's very nice and will extend hw and help you when you ask for it.
Professor Sun is a solid choice for this class. He is very understanding that we have a life outside of school, and he will extend due dates if needed. The course itself is very difficult but the professor is definitely there to help, I recommend him and would take him again.
Professor Sun was incredibly structured and organized. He extended deadlines for homework and quizzes which was very beneficial because the content was hard. He was highly accessible and responsive to emails which was a plus. The content was pretty hard for not being a stats major, but I think anyone get can get through it.
The class was average professor extended assignments multiple times throughout the semester at the request of students. Quiz/Homework every week and multiple exams.
The instructor is alright. He always extends assignments based on student requests. His lectures are really hard to understand. He uses both WebAssign and Blackboard which can be confusing sometimes because there are assignments on WebAssign and Tests/Quizzes via Blackboard. I would not take if this course was not a requirement to graduate
As an online course, this class was pretty mid. However, he did extend almost every homework assignment so if you're a procrastinator that's a plus for you. I didn't like it because some nights I'd be rushing or struggling to get an assignment done just for him to extend it every time. This class uses WebAssign with multiple attempts btw!
The lectures look like they were recorded in the first century. The content is extremely confusing and the professor is apparently too lazy to re-record updated lectures. This class is near impossible even if you use chegg or other unauthorized resources. I would recommend taking literally anybody else.
Dr. Sun was a fairly well professor. He always extended the deadlines for assignments each week because he cared about his students. All homework was on Cengage, but the quizzes and tests were on Canvas (and they weren't fairly hard with the necessary resources). Overall, a lenient professor who offers extra credit at the end of the course.
Don't take this professor for online course. This has been the hardest most stressful course I have ever taken. His lectures are so old you can't even use them to learn more from. HW is hard. Tests are hard. He does extend the hw every week if students request an extension but honestly most students need the extra time to figure them out.
One of the hardest classes I have ever taken. lucky I passed. I would not recommend taking this class online. You wont understand a thing. Not saying its the professor, its simply the class is really hard. one super hard homework weekly and 1-2 quizzes weekly. 3 tests
10-wk summer course. Schedule was not consistent, but the workload was not bad. He consistently extended due dates for the entire class. His lectures were unwatchable, but his notes and the textbook were good. Quizzes (2 attempts) are not timed. Three regular tests with no final. He was approachable and communicated with the class. Would recommend.
Nice professor, bad teacher. The lectures aren't even available to use because its so out of date. Do not take this course.
Taken online and contains: 11 modules with a homework assignment on Cengage (multiple attempts) and quiz/quizzes (2 attempts) and 3 test (2 attempts). Easy class and work load is maintainable.
The lectures are outdated but the professor is understanding. Use Unstuck ai along with the textbook to prepare - it really helps make sense of the tricky material.
His Teaching Notes are incredible and helped me fly through his homework assignments.
The lecture videos are about 30 years old, so THAT is my biggest gripe. There is a bit of a language barrier but he is always willing to help you out if in need. He kept adjusting the class schedule to accommodate the students behind which is NOT fair to those up to speed. The material is hard but you have the internet to give you answers.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU VALUE YOUR SANITY. The homework had every single one of us students with faces of abject horror. This class is hard, like very hard. ChatGPT struggles to help you. You may ask why you need this class; no one knows. The math is hard, and you'll never understand it.
Terrible! Weighted grade is way lower than the grade calculated in canvas. He does not teach!
