A great professor with lots of real world experience
No Comments
This guy doesn't know how to teach. Thinks pausing every three minutes of speaking is "public" speaking. Don't know how I paid attention. Asks for same assignments multiple times, sends some e-mails that make no sense. Overall, confuses students.
This guy is one of the worst teachers I have ever had. He is constantly handing out homework, but never giving due dates. Not to mention that since last friday there wasnt many people in class he decided if you miss friday you get 25% off your total grade. Look out for him
Hard Exams. Doesn't work through examples, which really gets annoying. We all know how to start problems, but how do you finish them?
This class is the biggest load of**** ever. We come to class and find out that day big homework assignments are due. Coming to this class is the biggest gamble. Some days you have stuff due and other days you have stuff done but its never due. This professor shouldnt be allowed to teach.
you never know when anything is due. he assigns stuff and never collects them. he never will work with you on a problem. bad teacher
He has been the worst teacher I have ever had in my life. He doesn't explain why your homework is wrong, that is if he ever gives it back. He is not a bad person just a horrible teacher
bigest waste of time ever spent, no sense of teaching style. No due dates, no examples, he expects everyone to know how to do everything after he mentions it once in a lecture. Terrible teacher...
He is a really nice guy and has really good stories. He just has no idea about the material he teaches, but most teachers at Tech are no different.
Likes to use the "throw you into the pool to teach you to swim" approach. Not much of an actual teacher. Sometimes likes to preach at the class, which can belittle you.
Mir Sadri is a saint!! A saint!! He is an inspiration to me and every single person I know. He has an open door policy and I consider him to be a friend.
Mir was a great guy. i don't understand a lot of these peoples problems with him. he could lecture very well, just hard to hear thoughout the whole class. threw you at what you had to do, but you learn best through doing anyways. never had a problem find him for help either.

I really don't understand the bad rating. This guy is a great teacher. He might be a bit absent minded and a little hard to understand, but he makes sure you know the material, he's lenient on grading, and he's extremely helpful if you have a problem. Ignore the bad rating, take eng with Mir!!!!!
Mir is the man!
Good guy, a bit absent minded. You can tell he is a very smart guy, just not cut out for being a teacher. Doesn't really know how to use programs he teaches you in class - he said so himself.
Great teacher. Easy to understand, helpful, and he understands how to answer questions. However, beware if you haven't had statistics, he isn't too good at teaching that. He has a good teaching style with lots of interesting stories.
He was so funny! I loved him! He deserves a better grade than this!
Mir shows that he is interested in us doing well in our careers, so he does make us teach ourselves a little, because it will happen in the job market (and later classes). If you ask for help you will get it. He is a great career counselor.
Mir is kick ass. He is very knowledgeable about the professional world. His downside is he is a bit disorganized, but that's minor.
Mir deserves a much higher rating than this. He is by far the best prof that I have had so far. He is very knowledgable and always willing to lend a hand to those who are struggling. He forces you to learn the material though, which is an excellent thing, in my opinion. Excellent Professor!
very nice and caring. hard to know what homework is due though.
Really cool guy, went out of his to help his students.
really cool guy, tells you from his experience about engineering. Also gives u tips on aspects of engineering for the future.
Nice guy - makes class fun.
This class is difficult if you don't pay attention. Mir is pretty cool and he will help you out if you go to his office hours. He is very understanding and lets u turn in things late if u have a good reason. But due dates are very unclear and exams are crazy-hard. Just pay attention to every little detail (take notes!) because its all on the exams.
Real Nice guy... Unorganized, unhelpful, and more ofter than not clueless...Real nice guy though.
great guy, good teacher, likes to make you figure it out like it is in industry. sometimes not as clear as you would like, but his lectures are entertaining. he is "clear as mud"
double check that he assigned the homework, because sometimes it unclear
good teacher, but his exams suck, he gives you a lot of problems to do in a very little amount of time.
nice guy, easy to talk to out of class, very helpful if you made an effort
His focus was more on real life aspects than just reading you the class power points. I actually learned how to use the software because he constantly made us play with it. He held my attention during class and I was prepared for the exams.
One of the nicest guys ever, just not the best teacher. His exams are crazy hard because he never covers most of the stuff. If you read and understand all the assigned reading, you should be fine though.
Very interesting stories. However, his exams are hard, and he doesn't do the greatest job at teaching to it. You will listen to him when he was an "En-jin-eer" but he'll never lead you into what you should know. The class is "clear as mud."
I thought he was one of the best teachers I've had. He related all of our material to real life applications and made class very interesting with all of his stories. The exams were a little hard, but I think you will do just fine if you go to class and do your work.
He was fun to have as a teacher, but never really explained much of how to do stuff.
cool guy, funny. not too hard. alot of my friends said he wasnt that great of a teacher, but i did not think he was bad and they liked his class too. i would say he is the best for eng 1101 and doug oppliger is the best for 1102.
I would be willing to bet that Mir is one of the better Professors for 1102. He is an interesting speaker and very helpful outside of class. Half of class time was optional with the later half being dedicated to getting fluent in matlab or UGNX. Show him that you "think outside the box" as he says and you are guaranteed a passing grade.
I'll talk for fifty minutes about important stuff, but let you learn the material I'm going to test on.
Fun, unclear on some assignments but gives you plenty of time to do them, sometimes. lots of team stuff. and get used to hearing "clear as mud?"
Nice guy. TERRIBLE TEACHER. If you want to learn about life and hear entertaining stories, take his class. If you want to learn the subject material of the course, take it from another teacher. He rushes through his slides, and sometimes skips whole lectures.
Great teacher. Read your materials and do your work (not like there's a lot) and you'll pass for sure. His real life stories teach more than the others' powerpoints. Go to him after class hours and you'll be amazed at how much more you can learn from him one-on-one.
Don't expect to learn much in class...lots of studying outside of class is needed to do well on quizzes/exams. Seems more interested in preaching than teaching. Pop quizzes make attendance mandatory, but you're quizzed over stuff you've learned that day which hardly seems fair. Overall, a nice guy but a really bad teacher.

It would be nice if he taught what was going to be on the test and in life.... Not about what happened to him. There are fun stories but not everyday
Had Mir for both ENG 1101 and 1102. He's a great professor. Keeps your attention, funny, and very helpful if you ask him for help or ask questions in class. Could do a better job of covering exam material and gives plenty of homework, but he's well worth it.
Mir Sadri is a great engineering teacher, he is clear to understand, was always around his office on weekends to give extra help. Gave the opportunity to build the a really fun project. He does give homework, but its college, get used to it.
By far the hardiest professor for ENG1101 but you will appreciate after the fact that Mir made you work as hard you did. He definitely has seen it all and knows his stuff. Work hard and he'll be more than willing to help you when you get in a bind.
Very approachable. He wants you to learn something and you can tell he's trying to make this a learning experience. He'll tell you what you will get out of this class and why you'll need to know this stuff later (i.e. the FE exam).
I feel like I'm in church when he teaches. He preaches and goes off on useless tangents all the time. Important material is rushed over and you are expected to learn it on your own time. Exam material is poorly covered. Makes facts and figures off of the top of his head like it's his job. Class makes me feel like he doesn't respect my intelligence.
Absolutely useless when it comes to helping students in class. Super confusing and convoluted answers to student questions and doesn't know how to help students with their programs. Never in his office when he says he'll be. Exam topics barely touched on, but his 'life experiences' are even though you'll never be tested on it. No idea how to teach.
Always has stories to tell -- funny guy.
well he is an extremely helpful guy makes random jokes in class but the man also knows his stuff go to his office make him think you care and do the homework you ll be fine..he gives loads of hw though watch out for that
Really good prof, knows what he's talking about. He's there to help you, make the most of it.
He is great, fantastic, and I am serious about that. Not only does he know tons, but he teaches this to us and gives us a challenge. By far one of my best professors yet!
His stories will keep you entertained when the work is boring. Extremely helpful and has a lot of experience. If you get a chance take his course.
Excellent teacher. He may not be the best in the field he teaches, but he could inspire you and give you the right direction.
He was a great teacher. He was hard at times and expected a lot out of everyone, but really taught me a lot! He has very enjoyable lectures. If you have trouble with anything all you need to do is meet with him and he helps a lot. Just show him that you are trying, and it is easy to get an 'A'.
Awesome guy. Super helpful
Constantly changed requirements, made it confusing to do anything. Project directions were rather ambiguous, but he never followed them anyway when he was grading. Avoid for ENG 1102, just because he can't tell you what you are supposed to do on the project
Our team project this semester was to build a solar tower. Mir did a very poor job handling this. Homework was returned late consistently. He is somewhat willing to help in person, but not in emails. If he forgot to post work, he just added it to the already high workload for that week, rather then move it back. Do not recommend.
All he does is tell stories and never explains anything
love the Teacher but clarity and understanding a big issue. don;t be afraid to ask for help. i love's to help and is a awesome but freely guy.
has alot of life examples and is great outside of class. Alot of time is required outside of class to read texts and do projects. Definatley the hardest 1101 teacher but class is entertaining.
Mir is probably the best Engineering professor. The professors for engineering fundamentals at Michigan Tech are pretty awful, but Mir is among the best. He's very willing to help, and if you go see him, he will do his best to help you.
In all honesty if your an incoming freshman he will ruin your tech experience and make you drop out of engineering. Don't get stuck with him. His project is double as hard as any other professor, he doesn't know the material, doesn't prepair you for exams, can't explain his own quizzes, and gives more life lectures than teaching.
Considering the horror stories I have heard about other eng professors I actually really like Mir. Isn't always very clear about whats going on but is very willing to help you. He makes projects a little overly hard but is glad to help you figure it out. Tells stories to help keep you engaged and learning. If you put in the time, it's fairly easy.
Mir likes to tell stories. I called them "Mir's Life Lessons" and liked them; some people found them annoying and just wanted him to do more problems. Sometimes he got mixed up when trying to rush problems on the board, but he was always willing to help students in his office. He gives frequent quizzes, which are helpful motivators to do homework.
Great philosopher! Not the greatest at instruction. The tests were for the entire engineering sections and he failed to cover a lot of things.
Mir is an extremely smart professor and has a lot of industry experience. He brings a lot to the table of education for beginning engineering students. Take his class section for 1102 or 1101 and you won't regret it. Also, his accent is not too strong and will break you into listening and learning with an accent.
Mir is easily the worst teacher I've ever had. If you care about your GPA at all, don't take his class. He is always unclear on what he wants done in the team project, and is always changing the due dates without telling you. He doesn't seem to understand what he's teaching, so he'll just tell you stories instead. Oh and there's a quiz every day.
If you really want to learn something, never take his class.
He is nice, though he is a bit unorganized. He gives chance to resubmit memos and stuffs. And he uses curves in his class. I got an easy A in my summer semester with him.
Nice guy and if you're looking for life advices take his class otherwise if you're looking to learn engineering fundamentals take class from another instructor...
Mir very busy man, but he will be willing to meet with you if you need help. I would highly suggest talking to him after class since he can take while to communicate via email. He has plenty of knowledge from in the field along with educational stories.
Mir is a relatively funny and relatable person. He has some great life advice. However, his teaching skills are not on par. He did not teach me much about engineering fundamentals, and his lengthy (unexplained) projects and poor organization skills caused plenty of headaches. Avoid Mir if possible.
He tends to tell more stories than the actual material. He would frequently assign hw so you were kept quite busy. His group project is MUCH harder than any other courses. His accent isn't too bad either. He gives quizzes over matlab and won't stop giving them until everyone's average is above a B. So if you keep failing, expect a bad grade.
Mir is an excellent instructor and has had a lo of experience in his field. He really knows what he is talking about and will help you when you need it.
Such a confusing professor, I do not recommend.
Mir is the type of guy that you would want as a friend but not a prof. He's a helpful guy with so much advice and life skills, but he will give you a headache for a fundamental engineering class, specifically because of a terrible final project w/ no guidance. He made my first semester pretty awful. FYI, You can skip some classes pretty easily.
Mir is a nice, semi-helpful guy, and I never felt that his class was extremely challenging. Where he lacked, in my opinion, was simply not providing students with what he should have. I feel that other professors may have taught more or better to their students, who may have learned or retained more than his. Not the worst prof, but not the best
Mir is by far the best professor I've ever had. He makes sure you learn the material and understand it. Mir gives in class quizzes almost every day once you get into the MatLab portion of the semester, but these quizzes prepare you so much for the exam. The exam MatLab questions are a breeze after all of the quizzes.
Mir is exactly what you need for a Engineering Fundamentals course. He has great real world experience and great advice to pass on. Quality lectures, as well as frequent quizzes help students with Mir to have the edge on peers with other professors. Definitely take if you have the opportunity to. If you put in the effort, you will get the grade
Mir is a great guy when it comes to being friendly, however as a teacher he lacks in announcing things that are important: quizzes, hw, etc.. He is very understanding, and you can always be honest with him. When I decided to change my major from ME to CNSA and he asked why he completely understood my decision process. He cares for success.
He's a cool guy and has lots of engineering experience and understands everything he teaches very well. Matlab takes a while to get a hang of but he is willing to help or repeat himself if he needs to. There are tons of assignments in the class but they're not unbearable which makes it not so bad. He seems to genuinely care and want you to do well.
Really cool teacher and cares about his students.
has great stories
Mir is a great teacher. He is extremely knowledgeable with MatLab and NX. He will go out of his way to help if you ask. He has great stories and tells them quite often. Fun professor and a great guy. He is very disorganized but I highly recommend him.
Mir is kind of unorganized and all over the place, but he has amazing stories to share in class.
Mir can be a bit scattered, but he deeply cares about the success of his students and has amazing stories from his experiences. If youre ever unclear of how to do something, dont be afraid to use his office hours or to ask him questions in class.
The only reason I go to class is because of Mir's stories. The most important thing to remember is shy people first.
Mir was the most unorganized professor I had my first semester of freshman year. Students have to scramble to find out what is due and when. Mir has a good heart, but his organization skills are mediocre at best. If you have no prior knowledge of coding you may struggle. I would not take this course again because I did not learn anything useful.
A lot of group projects in this class. That's basically all it is. Prepare to not get grades back until the last week of the semester. He is really interesting at times because you can tell he has had a lot of experience, but sometimes he just gets carried away.
Mir lacks organization skills, however he truly does care about each students success. He doesnt want any of us to fail and provides support if you need it. The course itself is difficult if you have no prior knowledge to MATLAB, but if you put in the hours it can be done. Overall Mir is a great guy. Can be confusing, but he means well.
Good teacher, talks a LOT about his time in industry, which can be helpful but sometimes he gets a bit too sidetracked. However, his stories are pretty good and he is a pretty good teacher. For ENG1102, it is mostly modeling in a software called NX, and if you used modeling software at all in high school, you should be fine as long as you show up.
Mir is interesting. He's a pretty fine guy but the assignments are very vauge and grading is consistently a month behind. He does give extensions occasionally and the grading is usually not bad. The class is not hard but some assignments will take 6+ hours to complete. Also, the textbook is completly unessecary; you literally never use it.
