Makes chemistry as easy as it can be. Trys to tell you what will be on the tests. He can be hard to understand but other than that, if you have to take chemistry, take him. He is highly qulified and trys to give everyday life examples.
He needs to practice his English. Nice guy and he knows his stuff though.
He is a great chem teacher, especially if you have a hard time with chemistry, he tried to use examples that were relavent to us and would be useful in the future.
great class, teach is dedicated to make sure you'll do well in the class. Go to class, listen actively, take notes and ask questions.
He is a nice professor but he needs to practice his English...so hard to understand.
This guy is super fun to listen to and to watch. He's hilarious. His tests though are the hardest thing you will ever see! 15 multiple choice questions and 2 pages of problems you must work out.
He's a style mogul, what can I say. His hair has some purple in it this semester - who knows what it will be next. He is such a cute guy and so funny. But careful - he calls out random names in class, so if he ever says your name, he probably doesn't know you even exist!
He is the funniest man to watch and listen to, even though he is hard to understand. He is a genious when it comes to chemistry, but his tests are very close to impossible so study hard!
OMG I HATE THIS TEACHER!! he says that he is always in his office, but he's never there. his tests are supposingly on the discussion papers, but it's not true. he also makes alot of mistakes when he's teaching and grading.
READ- Quarky man yet extremely knowledgable teacher. People blame their bad grades on his accent; he is 95% understandable. Semi-difficult tests; just study (you can argue for some pts.) Because he has so many classes, he's wrapped up in grading/organizing--sometimes hard to reach him. I RECOMND!
Very good and caring teacher.Truely wants all his students to pass and offers extra credit if you attend discussion classes. He is very helpful. Most people complain about his accent (he can't help it), but in reality if you get a bad grade its because you didnt do YOUR share of studying the material
The most caring professor ever. He teaches 5 days a week, holds seven discussions, in and out of the labs and on top of that he always has time for his students to explain to them anything. At times, it is difficult to understand him during the lecture, but that's why we have the book. If you study,
prof. shamsuddin is a riot. it may be hard to understand what the hell hes saying, but hes an all around great teacher, such a funny little old man. class isnt easy, but entertaining.
He is very hard to understand and does not help you if you go see him in office hours. Because he is so involved in all the classes, grad students grade your tests and they are very hard graders. You have to study A LOT just to get a high C or a B on the test. I would not recommend him.
The class was very interesting and the labs as well. There are several tests due, and no homeworks except the lab papers. Professor is very funy, helpful, and clear and not a hard grader. Class is not that hard.
He Loves Nursing Student ! We love him too ! His a funny guy, his very helpful with explaining material and really want you to do well.
He is hard to understand even if you are sitting in the front. He writes very small even when asked to write larger, so invest in a pair of glasses. Makes lots of errors when writing on the board, so recheck some of the formulas from your notes against the text. Not always in his office when he says he will be, so phone first. Not a good teacher.
He is a funny teacher, BUT you can hardly understand any word he says. Whenever we had class, you would just hear blah blah blah blah, then a joke that pops out of nowhere. He definitely knows the material just not how to teach it.
you eever hear charlie brown's teacher? i think i found him... all i can make out is wahwahwahwuhwah..and ssomee jokes..not very understandible but quite funny
No Comments
he may not be the easieest teacher to understand, but is very very nice and understanding. He tries really hard to help out. if you put the effort im, you can do well in his class. i would recommemnd him as a teacher.
Mr. Shamsuddin had a very clear and organized teaching style. He gives partial credit on test questions and offers more than enough out of class time for extra help. He's a sincere and funny guy too.
Ok, at 1st Dr. Shamsuddin seemed to me very funny. But once i saw the test i didn't think so nemore. The point is if u study u will do well. Helps if u need it. Can be insensitive sometimes. He does luv Nursing students but thinks they already knw everything. That's not good if u haven't taken Chem b4!
he's a really funny guy and if you ask for help you'll get it. he increases his office hours before tests and sometimes has study classes before them as well. he is hard to understand, but you get used to it after awhile! I recommend!
funny... but you gotta really pay attention to get the jokes
Shammsuddin is awesome! He's a very funny man and tries to make chemistry interesting. He's extremely helpful with any questions you may have and gives a lot of his time for students. You may think he's hard to understand b/c of his accent, but after a while you get used to it or maybe even like it cuz it's different
Shamsuddin is a very good teacher. Helps out a lot. very knowledgeable on the subject. overall a very good teacher. best teacher i have this year.
Completely uncler. Accent has nothing to do with it. His sylabi are rediculous to follow. He'll focus a ton of class time on say Citric acid cycle so you think it's on the test and study really hard for it and it's not. For one test, the whole class said we studied the stuff that wasn't on the test and he still wasn't willing to change. Confusing
His accent doesnt bother me. Go in for notes, cuz they will really help you. He went over things when we didnt understand. His tests are really tricky. I think its the way they are worded and sometimes you think its going to focus on one thing, and it goes in the other direction.
Professor Shamsuddin is a very nice man and he cares about his students. However, he is extremely difficult to follow during lecture and very very very unorganized. It was pointless to go to class because you got nothing out of it. You basically have to teach yourself everything out of the book and if you want to do well.
Mir is a good teacher. People that don't like him are those that think they can get by without doing any work. Sure he can be confusing at times but he's very helpful when you need it. And if you open your book and read (whoa what a concept) you can easily get an A. Don't rely on lectures for tests-most of it comes from the book so read.
He is horrible! His lectures have nothing to do w/ tests. You have to learn everything on YOUR OWN. Class is just a big waste of time the man doesn't follow the syllabus, doesn't speak english, thinks everyone was born an ORGANIC CHEMIST. I never skipped a class, did all work, studied basically worked my ass off and barely managed a C+ I blame hi
He did not use blackboard and was hard to follow during lectures. His tests did not reflect what we learned in class.
Very helpful teacher. sometimes hard to understand
I am very bad at chemistry, but I studied from the packets he gave us and went through the books, and I'm doing well. I thought I failed my first exam and cried, but as long as you know what you are doing, he cuts you a lot of slack when grading. You can argue your grade, and he will tell you what is on the exam in his office hours. Go to class.
Very thick accent so sit close to the front if you want to understand him. Office hours are very helpful and so are discussions. Material is rough and if you want a good grade you will have to work for it. Knows his stuff and uses silly examples.
He is one of my favorite professors. I don't understand what people are talking about.... He is not hard to understand at all and I loved his teaching style....i did really well on his exams just by listening to his lecture, asking questions, reading my notes, and the book.I loved Chemistry because of him....He rocks!!!!!
Professor Shamsuddin is definitely a great professor! Chemistry is a hard subject, but he tried to help us all understand it well. He's really knowledgeable and genuinely wants to help his students out. People complain about his accent, but it isn't that hard to understand... and if you don't understand, just ask him to repeat himself!
He is probably one of the best teachers I have ever had. He made jokes and tried to help people understand things and apply it to everyday. Sure, at times he has hard to understand but it was made up with how much he cared. Plus, I loved his Air Jordans and suit.
He's a great person, but it is hard to understand what he's saying also when you ask a question he doesn't always understand you so the question may go unanswered.
Mir is such a cute little man. He has a thick accent and doesn't always explains things very well, but I am glad I had him. He is so nice and funny! After an examine go to him during his office hours and he will probably give you more points on your test.
I love him! he is so cute and funny! the tests are difficult so studying and taking good notes are important. However, it is possible to get an A.
He is a really good professor. Chemistry is a very hard subject, but he helps you a lot. You definitely have to read the book.
The first thing he said in class was everyone should pass my class, don't be nervous. that calmed me down so much, because chemistry has always been so intimidating. Honestly, it's not an easy class, but he will help you and he really cares about the students.
good take his class
If you care about your grade then you will do fine. Sit close, listen carefully. If you go out and party and let your schoolwork slip, it is not his fault. He is a great teacher.
i really enjoyed this teacher. Very laid back and very enthuastic about his material, which makes me enthuastic! Does his part well in teaching the class. Though, at first his accent got in the way, i overcame that issue. If you ask a lot of question and you attend all discussion classes, you will get the A.
The class is fairly hard, but if you show Shamsuddin that you are trying by going to him for help or on the exam writing extra information that might have been on the exam on the side, you'll be able to pass. He's a really nice guy, pretty funny, who does not want to let anyone fail his class because he knows we need it in order to continue.
i showed up to mayb half the classes. i read the book on my own, did his study guides, and got a B in the class. people stressd too much about this class. you could have written a cocktail recipe for an answer on the final and hed give you 8/10. if you wrote the right answer, hed still give you 8/10. do the study guides. class HARD to follow
very good teacher
Mir is very nice- but makes class difficult. If you find a study group and practice, you should do fine. He doesn't use blackboard. Go to class and discussion! Lab is easy and he will help you if you need it. Pay attention and ASK QUESTIONS! He may be intimidating and unclear, but he is really helpful when asked.
Difficult to understand at times but if you read the book, do practice problems, attend lecture and discussion you CAN get an A or B.
Not bad at all, just go to class, take notes even if you dont fully understand whats going on because it will most likely be on the test, youll figure it out eventually.
I would stay STAY AWAY but if your a nursing student, thats not possible since hes the only friggin teacher!!! I dont care if hes a nice old man.he does not know how to teach and that should be what matters. The people who say otherwise are either "Brown noses" or have taken AP chem classes in HS.
sham is a good guy but a horrible teacher. as a nursing major i had no other choice but def stay away if you can. you cant understand him and his tests are hard. plus the TA's for lab have no clue what they are doing.
Sweet old man. Chemistry is hard, but if you read the book ahead of time,do the practice problems, you'll be fine. Easy to earn points back on quizes n tests. Sometimes Sham teaches things wrong, don't be afraid to correct him. Don;t slack in this class. It's hard and rigorous but an A or B is possible.
Shamsuddin is da best!!!! Even tho he has an accent and the subject is hard, he is very patient and sweet, and tries his best to help u. He is extremely nice! Tests are doable if u study, and he ends up curving it in the end anyway. Just try ur best and he'll pass u with at least a C. Take him. He is a good teacher.
He's good.
You are in for a real, long and hard year. Mir is a very nice man,but this is something you need to always study. Mir does nto present the information very clearly, so you really need to rely on the book and his packets. His tests are very difficult, so study.. HARD! also, go to his office hours, if he sees u care, u will pass. hard class, study!
Like others have said he really is a sweet old man! Advice: read book for background b/c what he writes on the board sometimes seems like another language, see him in office hours for pts back on tests, attend all lectures and all discussions because it's extra credit. MEMORIZE THE PACKETS FOR EXAMS! And good luck nursing stuents!!!
Mir is a really fun professor. His tests aren't a piece of cake, but completing and understanding the discussion packets he makes will get you an A or a B for sure. I feel he is very liberal in grading, giving me a few points that I didn't really deserve on tests. He put a 4 point curve on one test, so he is very fair. Just put some effort in!
Yes, Mir is a very nice guy, but this class is stressful. Cannot understand his notes or his accent, so you basically read the book and teach yourself. Covers so much material and you never know what will be on the exam. You will pass, but I felt like I didn't learn anything and it hurt my gpa for sure.
Since there is another teacher for this class take him instead! you are an idiot for taking this class. tests are impossible and i never went to class because i didn't understand anything he said, had to teach myself. save yourself! he's nice yeah and you can get a c if you go to all the discussions and lab. but don't do it!
I found it very hard to understand him. His lectures/notes are all over the place, unorganized , and unclear. Yes, he does give 2 or 3 extra points on test if you go to his office hours, but I'd rather have a teacher who explians the material well and actually doing well on the test, rather than just earning some pts. Do not take!
Nice guy, but not a very clear professor AT ALL! Chemistry is difficult enough as it is, and having a PhD in it is not qualification enough to teach it in m y opinion. CHEM 151 is a required course for nursing students, and I suggest you READ THE BOOK, MEMORIZE, and go to his office hours regardless of what the other people say on this site.
Shamsham is one of the nicest teachers I've met at Loyola, perhaps his tests aren't the easiest but he makes sure you're well prepared. Ignore the naysayers, this class isn't hard if you pay attention, read the packets he gives you and take really good notes. He really cares about his students and makes chemistry interesting.
OMG!!! Best Professor evaa! He is sooo fyne. I love Shamuuu! He's da best. lololol. <3 <3 <3
Fantastic professor. Such a kind, little, old man. He certainly does have a thick accent but by the end of the year you don't even notice it. If you attend class, see him during his office hours, and complete the discussion packets, you're completely capable of getting an A. He wants his students to succeed!
I really dont know how he is still teaching. You can barely understand him and by the time you do you realize he doesnt really understand what he is saying either. Hes so sweet and harmless and im sure he tries his best, but you teach yourself. Get ready for tutoring and reading the book because for this mandatory nursing class, theres no options
He has a heavy accent that makes him very difficult to understand during lectures. However, he knows a lot about chemistry and is very helpful during office hours and discussion. Read the book, go to discussion, do the worksheets, do online homework and you will be fine. EASY GRADER- if you have the right idea, you will get full credit on exams.
Good class, great prof. You learn a lot. Just be sure to read the chapter your going to cover in class, it makes things a lot easier since he has a thick accent. So adorable, but he get's confused sometimes. Tests are hard, he gives a very general idea of what is on the test. Not an easy A, takes time to love him. Good luck.
He is the cutest professor ever! (tiny, short, and chubby guy who has a thick Indian accent). Its hard to understand him, but over time you'll get used to it and his jokes are hilarious. Always read the chapters before class. Do all the discussion worksheets and online hw. Go to his office hours. I have an A so far, and always go to class!
Best Chem teacher ever, he really knows what he is talking about and is very willing to help you get it too. He does have an accent but people make it a bigger deal than it actually is, you won't have a problem understanding him. He puts up a lot of examples during lectures which is sometimes boring but really helpful. Overall... a great teacher
MIR! He's the sweetest old man. It takes a little time to get used to his accent but he actually is a good teacher. You just have to form your questions in a way that he can understand. If you go to office hours he gives you points back on your tests. Sweetest old man ever!
He is nice, funny, but thaat accent is a problem. At the tuition we pay at loyola the least we deserve is to have a professor we can understand. He helps whenever you need help, good professor, but during lectures you have to concentrate more on understanding the words coming out of his mouth than the actual material.
Shams is the cutest little old man ever! Make sure he knows you!! If he knows you he grades your test a little easier. Go to class. Don't worry you'll get used to the accent. Go to his office hours, or talk to him during discussion. He is always willing to help. If you go over a test with him he gives points back so DO IT.
Very Sweet. MAKE SURE HE KNOWS YOU. if your one of his "friends" you get more points. not even lying. If you talk to him about your test he DOES give points back. He is hard to understand but after 2 semesters you get used to it. Good luck!
Good guy, good intentions. good study habits are a MUST before taking his class. Lectures are repetative and he dumps 100 pages of charts and figures for you to memorzize the day before the exam. Got to be on top of your game to get an A in this class.
I love Sham Sham!Always go to discussion they really help clarify what you learned in lecture, you can also ask more questions there. Always do your mastering chem homework, he gives extra points for that and it actually helps you. Take very good notes because he doesnt really use the book. Gives out a lot of handouts. Nice guy though.Get tutoring!
At first, this class comes off as difficult and you need to study well for the exams and quizzes. The professor offers help when you need him, also, like others have said, become friends with him, it will pay off. To do well in this class, read some of the textbook and also study the handouts. Difficult, but good class overall.
Sham was a great guy-but that's kinda where it ends. Definitely have to be friends with him in order to pass. I failed one of the tests and went to his office hours and he gave me 40 points back. So absolutely get to know him and go to his office. Very hard to understand-used the book to teach myself-tutoring is a must. Attendance is essential
I LOVE SHAMMY♥ He's such a cute old guy :) He's an easy grader and gives points back after tests if you justify your answers! He's funny and smart, even though he has an accent. You'll get used to it :)
I love him!!! He is soo adorable!! and funny!! and smart!! and he gives points back if you explain yourself! and he is just a great guy! <3
Ohh Shammy, His class is an adventure on its own (in a good way)...But if you pay attention and read the chapter before class there should not be a problem, the test and quizzes are not hard at all, they are just like his discussion packets, and he will give points back on tests, and make sure he knows your name : D
Complainers will never pass this class. You have to take notes and focus on what he says, not the book. Do the discussion packets and understand what he's saying. The discussion packets and old quizzes are a GREAT study guide for the test. You have to be hands on, and ask him a lot of questions so that he knows you're trying.
Dr. Shamsuddin is cool. He's nice&funny. Everyone says he gives points back on tests if you go in: TRUTH IS you need to go in consistently and know what your doing. if you justify your answers or prove him wrong, you get pts back. if you go after failing a test expecting to all your pts back, NO. Also, he grades easier if he knows you..just saying.
Wouldn't exactly say attendance is mandatory, he's hard to understand w/his accent but you get used to it. He's a sweet old man, but his teaching is dry. Your better off teaching yourself. Taking book notes will help alot. He plays favorites if he knows you, so get to know him if you barely know what you're doing. The Orgo unit is hard, good luck.
Oh shammy! This guy is hilarious. His teaching methods I wouldn't say are the best, but he does sometimes say helpful things. I find that taking detailed book notes and making notecards w/explanations and examples are most helpful. Sometimes he says the most random things, lol. He's a sweet guy but the class is challenging. STUDY STUDY, STUDY. :)
He is reasonable most of the time, but randomly he'll be super stuck up about points. Even if you get questions right on tests that he marks wrong, he'll fight you and say that you're ultimately wrong. First semester was definitely easier. Second semester is completely unreasonable.
Shammy is a total sweetheart. nevertheless, the class is kinda unbearable. his lectures are confusing and he skips over main ideas. as long as you are okay with teaching yourself, you will be fine. an a is definitely attainable; you just really have to work hard for it.
He is a super sweet man! However, this class is difficult. You must go to class and take good notes, most of his questions come from lecture. Go into his office hours and get to know him! He favors you if he knows your name!
His class is super hard. With that being said you have to keep in mind the grade scale cause his A is a 94 up. His test/quizes are examples (similar) from class... so study those. I barely used the textbook.. maybe share with someone?
