Professor Rabinovich is a very sweet woman. She is hard to understand at times, but she is helpful and understanding. She spends a lot of time explaining the lab and why we do it. Skim over the lab before class and take notes during her mini lecture and the labs will be super easy!
Not a good teacher.
One of the sweetest teachers on campus. She truly cares about the well being of her students and knows her entire section by name. She can be hard to understand at times and sometimes needs to pause to figure out the answer, but she's genuine. She'll help you for hours if you need it. The class is VERY easy to score well in.
She is spanish so you cant understand her, and she doesnt review for her test and you have to rely on the homework and she always pops in trick questions on quizzes and tests
Horrible Lectures. Never learn anything in class. Makes frequent mistakes in examples during lectures. Excessive amounts of homework. Exams and quiz's are full of trick questions, which makes them impossible. She never responds to emails. Good extra credit assignments, which is the only positive thing about this professor.
Mrs. Rabinovich...I went to her for help on mastering chem HW and she gave me 5 out of 5 wrong answers. Half the examples she does on the board she does wrong and half the class laughs at her and the other half tries to help her. She should not be a college professor at all.
All Chem 1200 classes basically have the same test and layout so no matter what professor you get it will be a hard course. Out of all the Chem 1200 professors Rabinovich is the best. Once you get used to her accent, she is the organized and thorough one of the bunch. She helps students and offers around 5 extra credit assignments.
Don't get MRS. Rabinovich confused with MR. Rabinovich! When I signed up I thought I was taking her husband. I ended up staying in the class but it was SO hard. She does try hard to teach her students, but personally I found it hard to follow her lectures - they were extremely confusing. If you're really good at chemistry maybe you'll do fine.
She is unclear and does not know the material herself. Makes frequent mistakes on the board. Her accent is not too bad once you get used to it. She loves giving pop quizzes and does not review for test. Test are hard with trick questions in them. You have to be willing to work, if you are she will help you.
Do all 5 extra credit assignments throughout the semester, and do them well!! By the end of the semester it brought my average up an entire letter point.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!
Poor lecturer and does not have a commanding voice which means she does not do well explaining the fundamentals of chemistry. For tests and quizzes, she will leave open-ended answers and unless you answer the exact way she wants it, you will lose points.
I actually really liked her. If she knows you're trying and that you are serious and not just messing around, she will help you out a lot. If you go to the problem sessions, not only will she help you prepare for the tests but you'll get extra credit. Lots of extra credit opportunities! There is a lot of homework but it helps you and your grade!
She is an instructor who is there for you if you work hard, which is good, but she can be very unclear about certain parts of the subject and tests. She wants everything done the exact way she wants it, no questions asked. She expects you to be spending a lot of time on her assignments, and it can help you to an extent. Do the extra credit!!!
She has a thick accent and is hard to hear sometimes, make sure you pay close attention. She gives a lot of extra credit opportunities make sure you take them all because any little extra point here and there can really help you out.
The WORST professor I've ever had, period. Completely unorganized, routinely makes mistakes, gives pop quizzes with very vague directions while looking for a specific step-by-step answer, terrible with communication. Do all you can to avoid her.
I don't why she has bad reviews, overall the class is generally easy and she does explain the material well. She gives us online quizzes before every exam which is for the most part identical to the exam. Overall, friendly and good professor.
She is not a very goof professor. She is not organized at all and is late to every class. She gives quizzes at the end of class with less than 10 minutes to complete when they need at least 20 minutes. I would not recommend her to anyone.
this class is easy if you have a decent chem background. Gives pop quizzes like 5 mins before class is supposed to end which is annoying and quiz questions are always harder than exams(very easy if you review/study) and take about 10 mins or more to finish.
Miryam Rabinovich is probably the hardest professor on campus. She does not explain the content well at all. Most of the time she doesn't know what she is talking about and students have to correct her. She expects that you use all of your time for her class. Her tests are very difficult. You definitely have to study.
She is hard to understand and can be rude. A lot of online work but drops lowest grades at the end of the year. Tests range from easy to really hard.
She will give you the respect you give her. I think the main problem in her class is the disruptive students. The quizzes are harder than necessary, but the tests are very easy if you study for them and do the homework. The final is even easier. I would recommend doing all the extra credit and finishing all the homework on time; it's not too much.
She's great!!! She can teach chemistry to a CRICKET, if you get anything less than a B you need to fix your study/school ethic
Mrs. Rabinovich is a good teacher. If you ask for help she is likely to help you, and she gives lots of extra credit. She likes to see that you're excited about learning in her class. On the downside, her accent is very hard to understand and lectures are often confusing. If you want an A: read the book, do practice problems, and memorize.
She is awful. I made a B, but that was because I taught myself. Getchemistryhelp dot com is really helpful to an extent. You have to go to class because she counts participation and doesn't tell you when she is giving quizzes. Offers extra credit, but lab notebook is not worth it, only two points for hours worth of work. Final is mostly terms.
Her class was alright
She is an all around average professor. She puts out way too much info on moodle so you have to filter out all of the crap. The quizzes are way to harshly graded but the tests are easy. She gives extra credit, but it is not even worth the time to do for the credit it is worth. One-on-one she is a great teacher. Her English is terrible.
She loves if you go to her office hours. Quizzes every other class
Her accent is sometimes difficult to understand. Doesn't really care about student opinions or whether or not you are able to do well. Repetitive teaching of basics. LOTS of pop quizzes. Plenty of online assignments. Rather rude at times as well...
Prof. Rabinovich is my favorite professor at UNCC. She is kind, helpful, and cares deeply about the academic achievement of her students. She wants you to learn the material and she will give in-depth demonstrations until she is sure that you have grasped the concepts. I would take her class again in a heartbeat. She is an amazing teacher & person.
She was not good at getting students to understand the information and when she gives you pop quizzes on things you just learned that lecture sometimes. The class would have been better if the quizzes weren't pop quizzes. I understand the logic behind it but I don't understand why we get quizzes on things we barely had time to look at.
She is so rude, she yelled at me because I didn't know where to get my quiz. And she is very repetitive with her teaching and give quizzes on things you just learned in class. I advise you guys not to take her.
Barely speaks English, constantly shows up late to class and is extremely disorganized, lots of pop quizzes, not friendly. By far worst teacher when it comes to the subject manner I have ever experienced.
She's rude, uses improper grammar, gives you quizzes every class and will not tell you what's on them. She doesn't give study guides. The extra credit assignments are ridiculously long and time-consuming with little reward. She's cold hearted, hates people. No wonder 25% of the class dropped out! She taught chapters FOR an exam AFTER doing the exam
The worst professor I have had in my entire life. She was very difficult to understand due to her heavy accent. She would often mess up while working on a problem and needed the help of students to give us the correct answer. I never walked out of class feeling like I've learned anything. She also would put things on exams she hadn't taught yet.
The people that rate her terrible probably just didn't go to her class. The first day she says a lot of scary stuff, but after that it gets easier. If you read before class, the lectures are easier to understand. If you aren't willing to put in some effort, you can't complain about not getting the grade you want. Highly recommend sitting up front!!
Overall, she's not a bad person but I don't believe she should be teaching chemistry. She rushes through the lectures and usually there is not enough time for quizzes. Do the extra credit, it will save your grade. 15 quizzes, randomly takes attendance, and five test. Final is cumulative. Willing to help if you ask.
Chemistry was a tough class, I definitely should have read more but this professor was my least organized. The quizzes were given directly after we learned the material, and they were graded harshly. She didn't have the respect of the class. They'd pack up early and you couldn't hear her over 100 kids leaving 10 minutes early.
She was a horrible professor and difficult to understand at times with her accent. I would usually attend class only for pop quizzes but read the textbook there on my own because I could not learn from her.
She has a thick accent so it is very difficult to understand her at times. She is rude and firm. Gives a lot of in class quizzes and the smallest mistakes will result in points off. Uses improper grammar and spelling. She gets confusing a lot based on her word use and is difficult to follow.
She speaks low, not towards the class, heavy accent. Has issues, gets quite insecure if your attention isn't 100% nor feels respected to her delusions; she doesn't respect her students, rude, emotional and irrational- will ignore & not understand you. She can't teach. Uses many filler words "uh" "right?" "um"- no confidence. She gives me anxiety.
One of the hardest classes I have taken at UNCC. It isnt because an introduction course to chemistry is difficult. Her grading is so harsh and rules are so strict (basic calculators and NOT graphing, mandatory solution maps for answers through simple math) that it is impossible to pass if not done her way. The material is easy, her rules are strict
She waste most of the time fussing at the class and when asked for help even going to office hours she doesn't help clear things up . The practice questions she gives are nothing like what's on the test and her lectures are very boring. . She gives quizzes every single Thursday and they're are easier to fail then . Worst professor I've ever had.
She's absolutely horrible. Gets her own questions wrong and won't rewrite notes despite her error. Cough in her class? Shell be sure to publicly humiliate you in front of the whole class. Lectures are helpful but she honestly makes too many mistakes to be teaching. AVOID HER AT ALL COSTS
Just don't take her class if you don't have to. You'll thank me later.
Do not at all costs take this teacher. I had to withdraw. She can barely speak English and I is impossible to understand. She constantly messes up on the board 20 min into an example and restarts the problem making you re-write the entire thing. Also if you miss the smallest grammatically error on a quiz you will get it wrong. STAY AWAY
She's not a horrible teacher, she's strict. Which you should expect from a chemistry professor at a university. If you do your reading and homework then lecture is easy to understand. She is willing to answer questions if you just ask. She does give a lot of quizzes and she's quite specific on her grading. Be sure to put your phone away.
if you want to do well in this class you have to be on top of things from the very beginning. There are a lot of extra credit opportunities but they are a lot of work and can't be done at the last minute. She has a strong accent and makes a lot of mistakes during lectures. Get a tutor in the beginning! Take any other professor for this class!!!
She overall is a great teacher if you listen and study.
Not a good grader, bad administration of time for tests, makes too much mistakes in lectures and grading.
I can't tell you the exact reason why she suck, because I don't know why. She seems to hit all the points. The lectures aren't bad and the pop quizzes shouldn't be hard, but at the end of the day you'll end up getting a 65 when you should have gotten a 80+ along with a bunch of other students. It's like her class is cursed or something.
Be sure to pay attention and read a little!! She does make a lot of mistakes. Quizzes are very tough. Although the extra credit is lengthy, it helps in the end. The solution maps used in her class are not used in following chem courses, so they seem pointless now. She came in very late all the time. Very nice outside of class though.
If you put in the work, you will do well. The quizzes are frequent, but not so much pop quizzes as the first day of the course she tells you there will be 1-2 quizzes each week. The next chem level has a high fail rate, so she needs to be rigorous to ensure students are prepared for the next (and harder) course.
Worst teacher I had freshman year of college. We've been in class for weeks and she continues to give us the wrong access links to the eText. She spends half an hour in lecture going over one question, then gives you a quiz at the end and expects you to complete it in five minutes. AVOID PROFESSOR.
She is one of the worst professors at the school. Avoid her at all costs. She spends majority of the class on one problem. She gets an attitude when answering questions. There are quizzes every week and they aren't how she taught the lesson. She is constantly late and inconsiderate of people's time. She makes so many mistakes.
Prof. Rabinovich is very tough when it comes to grading any quiz/test. She wants you to OVEREXPLAIN things when it should just be a simple yes or no question. I would not recommend at all to take her for intro. She overexplains topics during lectures that will leave you more confused than when you started.
This professor is not great. She makes a lot of mistakes that students have to correct, she always asks what time her own class ends, comes in late, makes the class harder than it should be by wanting students to over explain simple problems, gives quizzes every week that even if you are prepared for will fail and shes hard to understand. Avoid!
Rabinovich is an amazing human being, very nice and sweet. However, you do have to prepare yourself to work hard for this class just like any other class in college. If you put forth the effort and study well you will do good in this class. Sometimes here lectures don't make sense but it is always good to go back over the textbook or get tutoring..
By far the worst professor I've had. Very rude to students. Seems as if she learned the info the day of teaching it to the class. Tended to grade many questions wrong on tests. 10/10 don't recommend.
She relied heavily on a system called ALEKS, which is like mastering chemistry, but 100x worse. We taught ourselves everything through aleks, and then when we got to class she would tell us we could not solve the problems the way aleks showed us, which made the class even more confusing.
She came into class late EVERY SINGLE DAY. She can be very rude to the students when they would ask questions. She is also very particular in how she wants you to show work on exams. If you do not over explain everything, she will count the whole question wrong, even if the answer is right.
Quite possibly the worst teacher/professor I've had in my lifetime. Over explains just about everything, goes over maybe 3 problems within an hour and ten minutes and then gives you five minutes to complete and 20 question quiz. The worst professor I've had. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!
She is absolutely terrible.
She is technically the Lab professor but I have only seen her once, she was only present when she heard our class and came in to reprimand our actual lab teacher (a Graduate Student). Our lab professor was literally just trying to help us. She doesn't allow phones or allow talking. She is the only lab professor, she lets graduate students teach.
Great professor. Has an accent but it didn't bother me. She makes minor errors during lecture and doesn't really like being corrected as much. Her quizzes are the MOST confusing ever, the wording just doesn't make sense. Holds office hours and helps students out as needed. Don't disrespect her please!! Pre-class hw posted only 2 hours before class.
Just dont take her, Im warning you now.
Get to know her during her office hours and she will help you with whatever youre struggling with
This class was tough and is not set up for the students. She does not care whether students pass or fail and confuses students in lecture. We are given ALEKs work which does not help. Overall this is a course I would not recommend taking with this professor.
Absolutely horrible teacher. She's clearly a very smart lady and knows her stuff, but she doesn't set up her lectures or homework to go along with the exams. The ALEKS modules are useless and just busy work. Expect quizzes almost every class. Check canvas like your life depends on it otherwise she never says what quizzes are or whats due.
More times than not, she showed up more than 10 minutes late to Lab, but if you show up late, you get a 0 on the quiz. She is a very sweet lady, but it's difficult to understand what she wants from you in class.
Professor Rabinovich is very nice as a person but I wouldn't take a class from her ever again. I withdrew from her chem 1200 because there was no way I was going to pass. She gives useless homeworks that take 6+ hrs daily to complete. Her tests contain material not covered in class. Gives too many hand-outs. UNCC needs to do better!
she's not very detailed in her lectures
She was very disorganized and doesn't know how to explain things. When someone asks a question, she doesn't know how to answer that question. Also, she doesn't speak loud and her class is very boring. She doesn't even try to get the student's attention. She just speaks in monotone the whole time. Oh and also, after exams we would have a lecture.
I cant even understand her more than half the time. Lecture makes sense & she over explains things to the point of boredom, BUT BEWARE the exams & quizzes are HARD. I have an associates in science & I think this class is extremely hard. WAY too much homework, literally hours of work assigned at a time, that she does not tell you about.
LITERALLY THE WORST PROFESSOR AT UNCC. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. i took her for 1200 and she failed me and i took 1251 this semester and i have an A.. she purposefully fails people and makes FUNDAMENTALS of chemistry difficult when it shouldnt be. i have her for chem lab now and she is very inconsiderate and rude. i dont know how she still works here.
Very unprofessional. Ignores emails. Class is planned poorly, and you have one week to do a major assignment using specific software.
The content of this course isn't difficult, but there was a lot of homework. We had 5+ hour assignments every weekend. You will be graded on having the correct work on quizzes, not just answers. Tests were all multiple choice. Read the textbook, make sure you understand the problems on homework assignments, and you'll be just fine in this course.
Professor Rabinovich is much better than people make her out to be! She truly cares for her students and does everything she can to make her students succeed in her class. If you do not understand a concept, go get help from UCAE or her and do not fall beyond. If you stay on top of your assignments, study, and work hard you will be good to go!
Worst professor I've ever had. Over half my class failed, she gave us between 4-10 hours of homework every weekend and would only open the homework assignment the Friday before and it was due on Sunday. She doesn't understand the content she is teaching. When you ask questions she completely ignores the question and goes on rants about other topics
AWFUL!! I would not recommend this professor to my worst enemy!! She does not care at all about her students and does not know the material very well. She teaches everything straight out of the book and is corrected by a student at least once a week for an error she made. If you have her as an instructor, GOOD LUCK!
I'd rather roll down a hill in a port-a-john than take her again. Tests were too hard, chem homework due every night, half of my class failed the final and class and it was only the intro to chem... I did great in high school in chemistry however taking her made me feel like I was stupid.
This professor's lectures are very boring but very easy to understand and she gives multiple examples and resources. There is no reason why you shouldn't do well in her class. If you're scared of taking chemistry you should take Dr. Rabinovich's class!
Probably the worst professor at UNCC by far. She doesn't care about students and makes it her personal mission to fail as many students as possible. She does not trust us at all and goes to extremes to enforce policies. Also assigns way too much hw for an intro class and doesn't give enough time for hw and quizzes and tests. DO NOT TAKE HER.
I didn't mind this professor or class until the switch to online. While in person she did cover lots of material in class that was useful, and while there is a lot of homework- it is beneficial. However, she made this class 10x more difficult once we switched to online. Nothing was posted/graded on time and the final exam was open response- not MC.
Professor Rabinovich was a wonderful professor. She was caring and very helpful. She gave a lot of homework but she cares about her students. She tries to help her students in the best way she can. She has taught me a lot in Chem 1200. It was not easy, but without her I would not have been able to push through.
Professor Rabinovich is a solid professor. She loves to answer questions and is always willing to help especially in her office hours. You do have to put in effort into this class. The quizzes in her class were difficult but the exams were a little easier and weighted way more. Peer Assisted learning was also very helpful to pass the class.
Worst teacher ever! Takes points off even when the answer is correct. Tests and quizzes are really heavily graded. Tutoring provided by the school won't help because according to them she's skipped over too much material. Tried study groups and everyone was struggling. And if you try to ask her for help shell insult you.
The worse individual to ever... she is always late uploading assignments to do. Everyone has lives also, but she extends due dates making us have to work around our own schedules out of the blue. Seems like her lab instructors are scared of her. Worse class and person to take.
she is just horrible
Literally the worst professor/teacher I have ever had. She barely responds to emails. I basically have to teach myself. She uses WebEx and writes using her mouse and the numbers are hard to read. Shes been going over SigFigs and Scientific Notation for the past month. Takes forever to put in grades. Everything one would want in a teacher isnt her
The professor doesnt teach all the material you need to know for her exams. You practically have to teach yourself chemistry. When she does teach, she usally has the class more confused at the end of the class than they were at the beginning of class. She is also fairly rude to students when they ask questions. 1/10 do not recommend
For a introductory chem class this is the hardest class ever. she does not review anything thats on the quizzes and tests , wont own up to her mistakes, but instead puts the blame on the students. Has no problem insulting students and refuses to help students when needed. Does not answer emails , chats on webex, and you cant communicate with her
She is nice, but she does teach an intro course to the hardest subjects so students often feel overwhelmed. She can be a little inconsiderate when it comes to grading and homework.
I am never one to write a bad review but never have I ever met such an irresponsible professor. She wouldnt teach the content, and then when we did get the question right, she would accuse us of cheating. She was never available outside of class and 2 months later, she has still yet to respond to any of my emails. Please avoid her if possible.
Worst teacher at the school I promise. Doesn't even review all of the material for the tests and expects us to know everything. On top of all that, I don't even think she can fluently speak english. Hard to understand and doesn't even review the material for exams. Don't take this teacher I promise you will regret it.
Really not in touch with her students or with what is expected from her as a professor. If possible, avoid taking this course with professor Rabinovich, her class will be harmful to your success.
I ended up withdrawing to save my GPA and due to the fact that Im switching majors completely, but she was very sweet and understanding about Covid and attendance. However, some topics were hard to grasp and quizzes/exams were way harder than they needed to be & touched on things we hadnt done yet.
Taking this class as hybrid during covid was awful. She has no idea how to use technology and simply open pdfs we submit for free responses on test. She has wasted class time to yell at students and her TAs are the only remotely helpful people who even still have not enough communication with her to teach us.
Worst chemistry class I have taken. First, her assigned work and the lectures do not match up, so you will be doing work on stuff never covered by her. Second, her accent makes it near impossible to fully understand. Third, all the TAs grade differently so tests are graded wrong and harshly. She does not offer extra credit nor curve her tests.
Wouldn't wish her on my worst enemy... not sure how she's still able to teach here.
She is just awful. You won't actually learn anything in this class even if you attend all of the classes and put in the work.
She spends so much time on one topic, and then when it comes to the quizzes and exams they're nothing like the assignments. The TAs are more helpful so I recommend attending the problem sessions. The exams and quizzes are really hard but if you study you should be fine.
Shes the only option for this class. She is disrespectful and not helpful at all.
To get started off, we did not have a single test in the class so far where she didn't seriously mess up one of the important questions. She also didn't respond to several of my emails and the ones she did respond to, she was disrespect and extremely vague. Personally, I learned the majority of the class through the homework assignments
She was never available and was just terrible overall, although we are in a pandemic she was the only teacher i had problems with. Lectures are horrible, the exams didnt correlate to what we were learning. Do not recommend at all.
This is the worst professor I have ever had. She is not understanding at all, lectures were boring and they dragged on, and she was not available for effective help outside of Zoom lectures. I ended up having to drop the course entirely because it was so difficult to understand what she was teaching. Relied too much on online homework to teach.
I recommend not having her as a teacher, she makes you do work way ahead of her lectures so when she's teaching she is teaching stuff you did last week or two. she barely responds to emails and does not care for a single person. are whole class is barely passing yet she will not curve anything, she does not understand its peoples first time online.
This was the first lab course that I took in college, and it was online. The TA literally does everything. The labs don't even match up with the lessons that are taught in the lecture portion. Overall, this wasn't an awful lab experience, but I wish the teacher interacted more with the students. A lot of the students struggled through this class.
ABSOLUTE WORST TEACHER EVER! Do NOT take her class. I had her in person and online and she does not teach well AT ALL. Canvas wasn't letting me submit a free response to a test and when I emailed her about it she didn't care and gave me a 0. This dropped me from a B to a D. Everyone complains that they have a horrible grade and learned nothing.
Never again... she can't teach at all and it's so hard to work around this professor and all her guidelines
She does not care about her students success. During her lectures she would mute everyone and not let anyone ask questions so you had to type them. She would then ignore your questions in the chat. Her grading is borderline cruel with hyper specific detail that nobody would be able to do. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!
You basically teach yourself. The TA does all the work so it depends on who your TA is. I had Jared Meadows. He's not good at explaining or answering emails. Class was literally all just youtube videos and Weekly lab worksheets. A lot of math. Be prepared to teach yourself for Chem 1203 Lab.
She ruined my gpa. If you don't like your gpa go to her to screw it up. No teaching sense, can barely understand what she's saying. Doesn't let questions be asked created fear to ask what we don't know. Pretends to be strict but actually doesn't know how to teach. Most horrible college professor I've had. Don't take her. Teach yourself chem instead
Miryam Rabinovich may be the worst teacher, professor, educator in the entire NC school database. Her classes are important and yet she makes them feel like a joke. She neglects to teach or help in any way. Dont take
Literally the worst professor ever. It's an embarrassment from the university to have allowed her to teach for this long. You can get the CORRECT answer on quizzes/assignments, but you will still get points taken off if it wasn't done HER way. She is extremely inconsistent, unorganized, unprofessional, and overall not a good teacher. AVOID HER.
Very well might be the worst teacher/professor I've had in my 20 years of living. She's rude to students over Zoom and on email. Not helpful at all when it comes to questions from students. Changes your grade without telling you why. Very unorganized and just lets her TAs do everything. I'd rather be taught chemistry by a high school freshman.
She is not understanding at all. Really hard class
Honestly don't think this woman has a heart, most uncaring person i have ever met. material is already difficult to understand but she makes in a hundred times harder than i should be. If you can avoid her class i would.
The worst. She is very rude and she is not good at answering questions or explaining things. She changes things last minute or will randomly change grades without proper explanation why. Even if you get questions right on quizzes/exams if it's not formatted the way she wants you can get the entire question wrong. I just ended up withdrawing.
One of the hardest classes I have ever had. I have never been on the verge of failing a class. One on One she is very nice, but everything else is unprofessional. Be ready to teach yourself! AVOID THIS CLASS
One of the worst professors I've had. She is hard to understand due to her accent, she barely teaches all the teacher's assistants (Alumnin's) do most of the work. Rarely replies to emails in an urgent manner. Grades very strictly, a lot of homework, talks very very slow, quizzes are harder than criteria taught.
Save yourself the trouble and take 1251 with a different professor, it's easier than 1200 anyway.
Grades are heavily dependant on tests, which always contained some aspect of error. Almost every test had to be regraded or modified because the test questions were wrong or were missing information. Grading is extremely specific but feedback lacks clarity. Overall teaching style is tough and unforgiving. Lectures were repetitive and didn't help.
Professor Rabinovich has a short temper. She does not like questions and will often not even answer them. The quizzes are graded way too harshly. The TAs are out to get you.
not sure why she is the only professor teaching this class; not thorough with teaching, doesnt actually go over prerecorded lectures; only goes over specific things in problem sessions; very rude replies to emails and isn't helpful at all; makes you look think the grade you have is all your fault; always late with posting assignments and grades
Not accessible at all to clarify her directions on the labs, as they were not explained well.
Arguably the WORST professor at UNCC. She doesn't care enough to explain in detail, grades tough (takes full points off if one thing is slightly different), doesn't respond to emails, and overall just terrible all around. UNCC clearly doesn't care about having bad professors, considering she still works here. Avoid her at all costs for GPAs sake!!!
As for Prof. M. Rabinovich last semester we started a week late and this semester we started two weeks late. Our exam was also scheduled on April 30th, the day of remembrance. It then had to be rescheduled to Saturday May 1 which inconvenience a lot of students. I do not feel that she is capable of being the lab coordinator, she is very unorganized
NEVER EVER AGAIN. Avoid at all cost. This lady will ruin your semester. Last minute lecture posting, was over a week late getting class started. Relies on TA's for everything, half the time in which they do not know what they are doing. Don't even take Chem1200, go straight to Chem1251. I withdrew from this class in March, a majority did aswell.
PLEASE AVOID HER. I knew I was getting into a bad experience when I saw the ratings from last semester, however, she was the only professor to teach chemistry lab. I am a good student and I STRUGGLED IN THIS CLASS. We had quizzes that were 15 questions, with 2 free response, and 10-minute time-limit (no going back once you have answered). AVOID!!!!
Very difficult class for an introductory course. Very hard to communicate with her, as it felt like she just did not know what she was doing. Did not express a lot of empathy with students considering the nature of this course being in the middle of a pandemic. I genuinely wish we had other profs that taught CHEM 1200. Like seriously, anyone else.
Horrible Professor. Makes countless mistakes and then blames it on students. I would give a 0 rating but i have to give at least a 1.5 so that should say enough
I would not take her for a Professor. Shes very caring, but her ways of teaching is not good. A lot of students fail her class cause a lot of the times shes not even ready on the first day of class. She will post assignments very late or very early when students are sleep. I got a lot to say, but if you can avoid taking this teacher do so.
Not good at all. Posts assignments the day before the due date(8:00 am) very inconsistent with responding to emails. Not understanding by any means. No late grades. A lot of the class is more self taught because her teaching style is confusing and very hard to pay attention.
WORST LAB INSTRUCTOR EVER. Took this course online and it was by far the biggest mistake of my life. The labs never have clear instructions. The quizzes is fairly easy if you pay attention to the notes and videos. Overall, they grade really tough on the labs and most of the time you will feel lost.
Prof. Rabinovich provides plenty of study material and expects you to show up to class, participate, and do the work. If you're looking for an easy A then she definitely is not the professor for you. Her pre-lecture hw/ quizzes are harder than the actual exams, so if you do well on those then you'll do great on the exams!
Most horrible professor to take. Very disrespectful and don't care about the student grades or learning. Would highly recommend not taking her
Literally the worst. My work hasn't been graded in over 6 weeks. Little material to help you learn. DO NOT BUY THE MANUAL. Literally just printed the labs and worked from there.
This course began a week later than the beginning of the semester and was dispersed into several groups and not taught directly by Prof. Rabinovich. There was a quiz at the end of each week, you couldn't go back and review answers before submitting the test, and the one time I directly contacted Prof. Rabinovich, she was very dry and rude.
This class was very confusing. A lot of the labs didn't have clear instructions so it's normal to feel lost a lot of the time. The only thing you're graded on are the quizzes and labs, so one bad grade can really hurt you. Don't buy the lab manual, the lab worksheets are already provided to you.
Rabinovich is one of the worst professors I have ever seen at a university. She not only cannot teach a course and is pretty much out of the equation the entire semester, leaving everything to her incompetent TA's. If you get lucky enough to find a TA who gives you an easy 10/10 on each worksheet, be thankful. Otherwise, you are doomed.
This professor not finish teaching all the material. Was left confused on the final trying to figure out how to solve certain problems without any knowledge of doing so. Another thing, this professor has anger issues towards the students, common typos and does not stick to her word.
Her course is extremely hard, you can barely understand her. I pass honor general chemistry in high school with a 92% but barely passed this course. Most of the topic were similar but she didn't take my work because the answer was right but the work was not the one she thought it.
This class was completely online and there was barely any communication from the professor. Deadlines were extremely strict and missing just one assignment could tank your grade. We didn't finish the course material and the exam was difficult.
Rudest professor ever. Takes full points off for a small mistake on the problem solving submissions, will tank your grade. Beginning of semester the MyLab quizzes were usually around 15 questions with only a 10 minute timer. Horrible teacher.
Ignorant, rude, lazy. Said she would post work on Friday in Canvas and when I emailed on Monday asking she called me stupid saying to check my email when she hasn't sent out an email explaining why nothing has been posted. Ive never met a more selfish and rude professor in my life. Dont even bother taking her. Avoid at all costs
She spelled her own name wrong in her first email to my class. She doesn't know what she is doing. Even the simplest questions a fourth grader could answer she cant. Worst professor in the world by far. I really want to know where she went or her degree because I don't think she even has one.
This professor is not able to work with or for her students. She does not believe in leeway or in commandeering circumstances. She is rude and disrespectful to students. The manner in which she speaks to her students makes them feel as less than and she treats them as if they are a five year old in time out for mistakes that happen to everyone.
Very rude and condescending to students. Avoids answering questions. No communication. Responds to emails after weeks.
RUN! Do not take her! Avoid at all costs! She is by far the worst professor I’ve ever had. Very unprofessional when talking to students! Has major anger issues as well. Doesn’t like to help kids and is not afraid to call them stupid. She has no patience and is a harsh grader. If you’ve ever had her I’m sorry
This professor doesn’t want students to succeed. She has no respect for others. When you email her be prepared to be faced with attitude. She’s very defensive. She grades us only on quizzes which test us on subject we don’t cover in her class. She doesn’t teach either, just TAs who she doesn’t communicate with.
This professor is terrible!!! She doesn't care for any student when it comes to technical issues, despite relying solely on TA's to teach her class and using canvas a main source of quizzing. I had a technical issue for a worksheet and my submission failed, resulting me in a bad grade and her response was essentially "suck it up."
WORST PROFESSOR EVER!!!!! Be warned. She is the meanest and cruelest teacher ever. Absolutely no remorse. She forgets to open assignments constantly which leaves us with less time to complete them. I once had to stay up till 4 am doing a worksheet because she forgot to hit publish until midnight and it was due at 8 am in person.
Worst professor Ive had yet by far, regularly spends up to two hours explaining a lab that takes 20 minutes, leaving no time to finish and thus giving everyone late grades. Hard to understand and confusing.
WORST PROFESSOR EVER!!!! Literally takes 3 hours to explain an experiments directions and grades based on how she feels that day!!!
TERRIBLE. My TA and her were absolutely awful. I got a 79.87% in the class and she refused to round it up to a B. she said "there is nothing to do" no extra credit no help nothing. absolutely ridiculous. They ruined my gpa for what? Also, takes points off literally for fun. If you have this class I will be praying.
Rabinovich is the rudest, obnoxious, and most annoying professor. Her labs are confusing and have little to no instruction. The TAs are unprepared and don't know what we are expected to do. Be prepared for quiz questions that you weren't prepared for. Unfortunately, if you're Bio, Chem, Nursing, and need this class you're stuck with her. Good luck
Please if you can avoid this professor... AVOID them! This was one of the most difficult classes I had to take this semester and I'm surprised I got the grade I did. I have accommodations for assignments and she ignored them until she finally listened to my advisors. There are so many things I could say so just don't take her class!
I didn't actually have this professor cause I took this Chem lab a semester apart from the Chem class, but my instructor was very awesome. Adam was a great instructor and helped out the students whenever they had questions.
This was by far the worst professor I have ever taken. She wasted one of my days waiting for a zoom I scheduled with her. There are many stories I could tell from the partial class that I took. She is extremely mean to all students and makes nasty comments. The course is extremely unorganized and the grading is insane. Do not take her classes.
For a 1 credit class she gives wayyy too much work. For pre labs we would have to write out the ENTIRE lab procedures, introductions and all this garbage "in our own words". There is absolutely no reason for doing this, its pointless busy work and it would take a long time. Professors like this are awful and ruin learning for students
First off I did not even know my professors name. I have never seen her. The TA teaches everything in this course. The TA even does all the grading. The material is not hard but you have to pay attention to the little details. I wouldn't give the professor the credit. The TA does everything for her.
Honestly, this class isn't bad at all. She has the TA drop the 2 lowest pre-labs, 2 lowest experiments, and the 2 lowest quizzes. It's not difficult to get an A in this course. Make sure you do well on the quizzes though.
I had the professor herself for the lab. Personally, she's kinda so-so, not the best but not the worst I've seen at UNCC. You're not able to skip the lab at all or else you end up failing so SHOW UP. The class itself and the quiz/assignments she gives out isn't bad. I wouldn't ask her questions, she comes off kinda harsh and made me feel goofy af.
She spends an excessive amount of time explaining how to do it. You also aren't allowed to miss a single day of class or your grade will drop 10 points. So even if something comes up good luck. For the previous semester the students were allowed to miss a class and have their lowest grades dropped but not anymore.
I had Prof Rabinovich herself as the lab instructor & not the TAs. She spent a lot of time reviewing what we should know from lecture but it's not bad bc she ends up telling you answers to most of the questions on the worksheet you have to do. Quizzes after lab were sometimes hard but doable. Pretty lenient grading on prelabs and worksheets tho.
I'm not even done with this god forsaken class yet and I can already tell you never even think about clicking this ladies name.
Class has ALOT of homework and you got to know what you are doing. You have to be on your A game in lab. If you get Rabinovich herself, she is a very good teacher so long as you care about the subject. Follow every rule to the T and you will do well.
No make up labs, but if you miss one lab your grade will drop by a letter grade. But good attendance does not affect your grade in any way. Very rude and disrespectful to students. Has yelled at students before. Pre-labs are generally 11-17 questions, but most of the questions have multiple parts. You have to print out your own lab sheets.
Rabinovich was my Chemistry Lab coordinator and Sara Salamat was my TA and it was pretty bad. At first I thought I was going to have to change classes in anyway but the more you do the labs the more you get a hang of the class. Outside of your resources there is quiet literally no help given and there was a lot of verbal negativity towards students
Not great, but she's the only instructor for 1251L. She didn't respond to emails and was rude to students the few times she came into our lab session. The TAs use her grading system, which is harsh. Pre-labs are tedious but helpful in the long run. Labs later in the semester had extra credit opportunities. Don't miss class.
It started after the add/drop deadline or I would have dropped it. Grading is harsh, with 50% of the prelab for every question wrong and a supposed letter grade deduction for absences. Despite being 1 credit hour, pre-labs took anywhere from 2 hours to 9 hours to do. Hope for a good TA, or you will struggle. This class is designed to fail you.
Some of the prelabs were ridiculously long, we weren't allowed to print them out and had to write the questions by hand. A lot of the quizzes were hard for no reason and weighed a lot. I recommend taking it with Punnya, she was very helpful and not a harsh grader, avoid taking it with the actual professor. Extra credit opportunities available.
The lab has a lot of tedious prelab assignments, but the professor breaks down the material well if you attend class. Use unstuckstudy and other resources to ace the quizzes. Avoid missing labs - attendance is mandatory.
Ms Rabinovich isn't bad, its the TAs that could use some improvement. I knew more about the material covered in lab than my TA did. Ms R seems intimidating, but is nice once you talk to her or email her. She comes across as passive-aggressive in emails but I think that's just how she writes. The pre-labs sucked, but they did make labs a bit easier.
