smart but totally approachable
smart, funny, approachable, obviously loves subject.
this guy is truly amazing.
Good lecturer, a bit fast, but clear, thorough & approachable
Seems like a really nice guy; manages to make a 3hr HA class interesting...
Very genuine guy...he appreciates life, and you can tell! (a nice change)
Great guy, hip, not pedantic
cant stay awake thru all 3 hours of lecture. at least he starts with a joke
really nice and funny guy! great at teaching the material, awesome class!
amazing man. his courses are refreshing. brilliant.
Pretty good teacher, lectures are a bit dry though. Long class, can be difficult to stay alert through a boring movie! Awseome TA Karen Kasner!
So funny, manages to make 3hr lectures interesting, really great guy...but exams are ambiguous until right before you take them, and he talks reallly fast during lectures.
I actually learn from his lectures. I like going to them. Good movie selection. What makes this class so great is that 420 club which meets right before HA 295 starts.

I had to give this guy a hottie pepper beside his name. Sophistication oozes out of him and he is incredibly sexy.
This guy is wicked. An amazing dry sense of humour makes this man damn sexy.
Mitch is the coolest, most amazing teacher of all time. Not only is he easy to understand and funny, but he's willing to answer you questions and explain things at your pace.
Very personable and supportive!
Very personable. Makes good effort to so anything he can to engage you in the class. Has great command over such a big group. Great sense of humour, good explanations of everything.
prob my fave teacher, knows his **** and is funny and i actually like goin 2 his class...good flicks usually too
BEST EVER! Mitch is absolutely great. I'll ask Dr. Mitch any time.
Excellent Prof, one of my favorites!!
He is my fav prof. Hilarious, interesting, witty, intelligent, kind, and extremely sexy.
HIs teaching style is so endearing because his awesome personality comes through it - interesting films and totally helpful comments and discussions makes me wanna marry this guy! I love you Mitch!
Mitch is the hottest thing ever..haha or is that just because hes a prof with power over me..and soo much...LOL great prof tho..netime ur feeling lonely mitch just lemme know ...good movies fun class too...

Best film prof ever, no question. Funny, knowledgeable, hip, helpful. Great selection of films for a survey class. HEY UVIC KEEP THIS GUY!
best prof i have ever had. I would take any class Mitch teaches, he's just that good.
first art history class...wow! is all I can say.....I was very afraid before...now I see the light! awesome prof...uvic should have this guy asa perm. instructor!
Mitch is good times, really funny, and HA295 is a very interesting course. He actually cares about his student. If you're going to take the tutorial, Karen Avery is key.
Okay, he's cool for a guy of his age, but more importantly he can teach.
I'd make a "home video" with Mitch (& maybe that hot guy from the front of the class) anytime! Seriously, he's a great teacher who gets the message across & touches upon many areas of study in his lectures. Class is fun and assignments are mana
excellent course and parry really knows his films. work load is not too demanding. i got an A and was usually sleeping off a hangover for my fri. morning tutorial. really though, what more reason do you need to watch movies in class?
I hope Mitch will stop getting nervous breakdowns. He and Hendricks are both great.

Took a class that often lacks credibility and made it a legitimate field of academic study. And someday, just maybe, he'll get his confidence back. He deserves it.
Mitch is a good instructor. He needs to improve on his lecturing style, but he is a fair marker. Mitch also needs to pick a better selection of movies to watch in this class. The majority of them were awful! This class also had a lot of hotties, which was a major bonus.
I love Mitch, he is great, he loves film and does a great job lecturing about concepts. He makes a 3 hour lecture bearable and chooses interesting films. He is a cool guy for his age, and has a wicked sense of humour. I would take another class with him anytime.
A really nice guy, his lectures are totally entertaining and interesting despite what he says about them! However, I could never figure out what he wanted me to say in the papers and on the exams, i got a B+ consistently no matter what i did :( but work load is light and the class is fun!
Parry is fabulous. Uses his noggin, great sense of humour, not afraid to exhibit his various neuroses. He's the sort of guy I'd love to have for an uncle, a brilliant yet goofy kind of person. If you're aiming for a film studies minor, this class is a must-have - fun yet challenging.
I've taken Mitch and Hendricks. Definitely take Mitch. Hendricks is a petulant baby; he draws weak writers of personal crap who refuse to remove their training wheels and be academic. Mitch, on the other hand, actually knows film. I always loved choosing topics and writing papers for his classes--which persuaded me to minor in Film Studies. Bravo!
Mitch is HOT!!! He really knows what he's talking about & what he's teaching. I'm so glad I took his courses. His lectures were so much fun and his personality is so awesome it made me interested in film even more! He's not only a great prof but also a caring, warm person. I love his jokes & sense of humour! Take his courses fo sho!
GREAT professor, very genuine. Cares about his students and them doing well. I appreciated him being open to various interpretations of the films -- I felt very comfortable in a very foreign discipline (for me.) Definitely recommend!
Mitch was one of the most helpful and knowledagble teachers I've ever had. Humble and intelligent,he taught me to really understand and apprecite film. I am now in filmproduction school in Vancouver, and will have a long career in the entertinment industry.
Very enjoyable class, Mitch creates a great learning atmosphere covering the course material and joking his way through lectures. Always prepared and on the ball, I highly recommend taking his class if you are interested in film studies.
one of the best profs i've had at uvic.
Mitch is the man. There's not much else to say about it. After 4 years of post-secondary education and a degree, I can safely say Mitch Parry was the best professor I had. Period.
Very knowledgable, yet provides an interesting and informative introduction to film critiscm to a layman.
Very nice and helpful with assignments, but sometimes confusing and hard to follow lectures
ok...Mitch has a radiating personality that makes him unbelievably attractive...you know what I'm talking about ladies! His classes? extremely interesting...his lectures..what the? He spent one entire lecture talking about cheese...well worth the time tho...you NEVER know what you're going to get!
Mitch is a good professor. He presents complex material to the layman effectively. He's also extremely humble about his own extensive knowledge and shares it often, but sheepishly. My only complaints would regard reluctance to crack down on those taking his classes for easy As and behaving disrespectfully during screenings. Fairly easy marker.
Informative and entertaining.
This man is incredible! His lectures stimulate interest and are very clear and straightforward. His jokes and babblings are extremely entertaining. Knows his stuff, for sure. I would recommend that everyone take a course with him at some point or another! =)
Mitch's excitement over this class's content was contagious. He's so aware and concerned of how he teaches and if it's interesting. The movies are good about 80% of the time and the papers are very straight forward. If you study efficiently for the exams then they're also a breeze. And yes, Mitch is also so very adorable.
I LOVE THIS MAN.
Great prof!! Very charismic ;p
He is a great prof, definitely someone who can make a 3 hour class seem worth the effort. His movie choices thus far have been pretty interesting, and I'm not regretting taking this as an elective. He has a weird obsession with Salma Hayek though... She's hot, but seriously..hahaha :)
Mitch is a cool guy, and delivers better than avg lectures... his movies are decent and the assignments and midterm were very easy. But, he teaches film at a very introductory level so most concepts are common sense and anyone who has taken a film class before will have an easy A. The only complaint is the chairs in the room were uncomfortable!
He left the class very open so that students who wished for an easy grade could get one and for students such as me who wanted to learn more in-depth, the material was there, we were just not tested on it.
great guy who's got a great sense of humor. The class itself was a bit of a joke (first time running it at UVIC) but Mitch did his best to make it interesting and find enough content to make into a 40 question final... I'd be interested to find what other courses he is teaching
Hilarious prof who provided an entertaining and interesting course. The course was really easy. Could have done a little better with the guest speakers. Overall a fun class.
somtimes funny, but i thought his lectures were really boring and really useless. film choices were sometimes good and mostly dreadful. TA's were nice and only thing that saved this class. likable guy but just tried to hard that he made most lectures drag on and confuse me. exams were fair although some questions were random and frustrating
An exceptionally talented man. Most of the marking was done by TA's, however. Still, worth going to the weekly screenings just to hear him talk. He's clearly passionate about the subject, which makes the 3 hour class much more interesting.
A really great prof. If possible he made me more interested in film. He is extremely knowledgeable, helpful and funny. Don't hesitate to go to his office hours, he REALLY is helpful.
Great prof. Although his lectures were a bit confusing and superfluous at times, his constant humour and his real interest and love for film made the course great. Knowledgeable, funny and interesting prof!
One of those rare profs who are funny, interesting and helpful. His lectures can feel a bit off topic at times but you can learn a lot through the process of writing for him. Definitely go see him in his office hours, he is extremely helpful. All written assignments (which he marks a bit hard but he is fair). Participation marks too. Loved him!
he was hilarious and really interesting
My favorite prof hands down.
I took Mitch for Books and Film and it was great! He chose wonderful authors to study, and he made class interesting. He is absolutely hilarious. But a little self-depricating. Easy tests if you atleast read over the material before hand. Make sure to attend all classes, as it's only once a week and every class holds something important!
Absolutely amazing, can't think of a thing that needs improvement. Knowledgeable, entertaining, mericulous - truly remarkable guy. Extremely helpful outside of class. Fair marker. Chooses odd but great movies for class screening. You can't graduate UVic without taking courses with Mitch!!!
Mitch is an amazing and inspiring prof. He is articulate, knowledgeable and fun. I can't imagine a better prof for film studies!
By far my favourite teacher at Uvic! For my degree I needed a certain amount of History in Art credits. His classes we one of the only ones that I found interesting and actually worth my time and money. He has a great sense of humour and always keeps the class captivated. he is a super nice guy, very approachable and has flexible office hours.
I was extremely disappointed by Parry. I took the class based on his awesome reviews on here. However, his humour was inappropriate, he had little control over class discussions and his choice of films was dubious. Although I got an A grade, I would steer clear from his classes if you actually want to expand your film knowledge.
Class: Documentary Film. Easy: all you do is a film journal, an essay, and a final take home short essay. He is funny, the class is interesting, I learned from him.
Nice guy. Totally disorganized, and not particularly insightful though: his lectures on films, to give their backgrounds, are like listening to spoken Wikipedia entries with some non-sequitur humour sprinkled in. Pretty easy, but could benefit to be more insightful and thought-provoking in lectures and discussions.
I love Mitch. His humour is hilarious. He tries really hard to know his students and their names. I took HA295 with him which has about 50 to 60 students and he walked up to me and said "you were in my class before right?" which shows how inviting he is. He is approachable and generous in his markings. I recommend him!
Mitch is very approachable and helpful when you ask questions. He is weird in a passionate way, meaning that there is a lot of hand motions involved in lectures. His film knowledge was extensive and the course material was well structured.
Funny. Knowledgeable. Lectures well organized and clear. Great film selection.
Awesome guy to have as a prof! Mitch has an awesome dry sense of humor, and combined with his knowledge ms, makes for an awesome 3 hour class every week. 295A was definitely the easier course, whereas 295B had way more writing assignments, however your grade will ultimately depend upon who your TA is.
Mitch is the my favorite HA prof. He is amazing. I feel so sorry that his class is the last HA elective I need to take... He is helpful, funny, and the lectures are really interesting. You will feel very lucky that you can take his course.
Awesome Prof
clearly loves film and will make you love it too. a mix of travis bickle and woody allen
Awesome Prof, take him every chance you can. Very nice and funny and knows his stuff! They don't let you pick 5 tags or else Respected and Amazing Lectures would be selected too! Want to do the movies? Learn from Mitch!
I love Mitch Parry, if you take any art history classes make sure they are with Mitch. He never skips a beat with his awful dad jokes and he makes coming to class genuinely enjoyable. His teaching methods are great and easy to understand. 10/10 prof
I had Mitch for two semesters in a row, AHVS 295a/b, and he's fantastic! I learned so much in these classes, especially 295a. He makes his lectures entertaining yet concise. The movies he chooses are really good and tie in well with the topics. And the quizzes/exams are almost word for word what is on the Powerpoints, so it's really not that hard(:
Mitch is a hilarious professor who is clearly passionate about making film understandable and accessible. The course gets a bit heavy in the last two months, but the criteria is clear and dependant on your TA, the marking is honest. Mitch's lectures are inspiring and the films he shows are amazing.
Mitch is my absolute favourite prof! I did both sections of AHVS and loved them. His lectures are engaging and interesting. Also remember that they are 3 hrs since we watch a film every class. Theres around 3/4 major projects and 2 exams that are all very clear and doable. My only concern about this class is his TAs, theyre pretty dull.
Mitch is a beauty! Really funny, gave good lectures, knew his stuff and was very passionate about his work. I took this class out of interest and Mitch allowed it to grow. He picked terrific films to screen and his accompanying lectures were thought-provoking and fun. The assignments/quizzes were easy and allowed for creativity. TAKE IF YOU CAN!
Mitch is a great professor. His lectures were engaging and funny, and I was able to keep up even though I had never taken a film class. Some of the movies were dry, but he was able to make them as interesting as possible. His honesty about stuff going on in his personal life made me respect him even more and his ability to make every class fun
Possibly the best prof at Uvic, an absolute joy to be in a class with. If Mitch Parry is an option for one of your classes (specifically film studies) PLEASE TAKE IT. There is not many profs as great as him, it was a highlight of my day to be in class with Professor Parry.
Mitch is an awesome prof! His lectures are super engaging and entertaining, and you can tell he really cares about what he is teaching. He has a great sense of humor, and makes class a pleasure to go to. I took both AHVS295A and 295B with him, and would highly recommend both. Unfortunately, your grade is determined solely by your TA.
Mitch is awesome! His lectures are my favourite ones to attend out of all my classes. He cracks really good jokes, is very passionate about his teaching, teaches important topics such as deceptions of race, gender, and indigenous peoples in the film with great accuracy, and is genuinely just a very nice guy. Loved the movies he picked!
Mitch is the most hilarious, caring and intriguing prof I've ever had. You can tell he is extremely interested and passionate in what he teaches, which makes the class so much more enjoyable. His lectures are clearly formatted and coherent with the weekly films. Take 295A before 295B and if you have the chance to take any class with him, TAKE IT!
Such a funny prof!! His humour is def very unique! I highly recommend this course. I look at all the films i watch differently now!
Caring fellow. Good Class, for sure.
Mitch is possibly the greatest prof at UVIC. He's constantly funny and yet still informative with his lectures. It's clear he has a passion for the material but also knows not all students are in the class because it's their favourite. Class was easy but also gave me a lot of fun and useful information. Would definitely recommend.
Intro to film analysis (AHVS 295A) with Mitch is easy, entertaining and inspiring. I would recommend taking any of Mitch's classes to anyone! Amazing prof!
Mitch slays
Mitch is great, his exams are right from the slides so study those and you'll be good. There are two papers which are pretty straightforward but are worth 60% of your grade. His lectures are hilarious plus you get to watch movies, I 100% recommend Mitch!
Mitch is a funny guy and his lectures represent that on most days. I do feel like compared to 295A that this course felt a bit less structured and at times all over the place which caused some of the lectures to feel like they were dragging. I think Mitch prefers teaching 295A to 295B.
Mitch is an amazing prof - his lectures are hilarious and engaging. The course content is straightforward if you keep up with the slides and films. I found unstuck study super helpful for exam prep alongside the textbook.
Mitch is so funny, and he is super chill. Great guy! Loved his class.
MITCH THA GOAT
Mitch is awesome! If you get the opportunity to take a film course with him, you should. He is so passionate and engaging with lectures, and his film choices are niche but always very entertaining!
Mitch is the best. Hilarious in lectures and quizzes are extremely fair. Grades are dependent on your TA though. Would 100% reccommend a class w/ Mitch. He is extremely insightful, passionate, and has a great taste in films (duh). He would occasionally become confused/scrambled though, I hope his health is okay.
