this professor is ridiculous in the fact that he expects there to be so much prior knowledge and lectures like you already know it all. stay away from this professor if you can, class is impossible to get an A in.

HIGHLY avoid this teacher!!! Goes way too fast in lectures and is not very helpful in office hours either. Believes in testing on "general concepts" but the tests are full of small details that are impossible to study for.

Terrible lecturer. He doesn't define terms and uses complicated examples to explain simple concepts. The questions on the test are obscure and only tangentially related to the lectures, and not at all related to the material in the textbook.

Absolutely horrible. He is terrible at explaining concepts, and he moves too fast. I pretty much had to learn everything myself. And his tests are only 25 questions, so there isn't much room for error. No curve either. Avoid at all costs.

I have learned nothing from Mitch Singer. Everything I have learned has been on my own. I wouldn't go to class if it wasn't for the clicker points. He is just terrible at explaining everything.

Awful Professor. Impossible to absorb any information from lecture. He becomes flustered and angry when asked any questions. Inaccessible, he has 1 office hour per week and runs off after lecture without answering questions. All material must be learned form the book and internet. Yells that you are wasting his time if you ask the wrong question.

Avoid this guy. Really really bad lecturer. WAAAYYYY too fast. One simply cannot understand him. Test questions seem random, not pertaining to lecture. I'm serious, this professor makes me want to pull my hair out.

Class was mandatory due to clicker questions. Literally taught nothing during the lecture, so you are forced to use the book. Tests were extremely difficult and not curved. Very cocky attitude. I'd rather pay $4,500 and stay an extra quarter if the final class I need to graduate is with him.

No amount of studying is enough to prepare you for Singer's random exams. Just memorize the lecture slides and you should be able to get a C in the class, or a B if you are very good at Bio. Avoid, very annoying professor that is disrespectful to students.

Wow. He doesn't care about his students whatsoever. If you have technical difficulties when trying to submit online work, he literally tells you "that's life". He also assumes everyone knows certain information, which basically makes everyone in class completely lost. Class is a joke.

Slides lack detail and are confusing just like him, his style of teaching just doesn't work...his attempt at explaining genetic mapping was a complete failure. At office hours he is aggressive, condescending and difficult to approach.

Where do I start. This class is unbelievably difficult. I admit this professor knows his stuff, but does not know how to communicate these points clearly. The tests are difficult to pass and even more difficult to study. The fact that the average grades on the midterms are not even passing grades shows that something is clearly not working.

Worst professor ever. Rude and disrespectful toward student. Audio intense lecturer and thinks everyone knows what the hell he is talking about. No practice midterm. Random exam which you can't be ready for. All in all, worst professor I ever had. I had to work my butt off to get a B+. Doesn't curve even though exams average are low D's. AVOID!

WORST PROFESSOR AT DAVIS. His tests are ridiculously hard and he refuses to curve the class even though the averages are at a 60 percent or below. He is confusing and his lectures do not help even though he makes them mandatory with clicker quizzes. Hardly gives any extra credit even though people need it.

Brilliant mind. But I think he needs to stay in lab though, because teaching doesn't suit him. I won't complain about his course work, it was fair. But he needs lessons in writing tests. He needs to understand that we are students, not scientists (yet), and he needs to be patient with us. He is rude, unapproachable, & humiliates students. BEWARE.

Extremely unorganized, unsympathetic, and unclear.Course homework, lectures, labs, and the midterms evaluate you on different materials. Do not take this professor. If you pull through the work load, think about it this way. He's so bad it will affect your other course study time and bring down those grades too.

rude and unhelpful. much of our grade is based on prelecture quizzes on things that we LITERALLY HAVEN'T LEARNED YET. powerpoints are pretty much useless because most of the information comes from him explaining things (confusingly) in lecture. for the love of god don't take this class

Not as hard as some people will lead you to believe; that being said, if you don't have a fairly rigorous HS background in biology, you'll probably struggle. Bring earplugs to (the unfortunately mandatory) class. You'll get a better grade if you don't listen to him at all - lecture usually consisted of him spewing nonsense and confusing everyone.

He is the horrible professor, doesnt teach much, expect students to know everything before he teaches, and extremely mean to students but grading is not bad. I got F and C for midterm and D for final but I still got C+. discussion, plq,pdq and assignments are more important than listening his lecture, and try to .

THIS IS THE WORST PROFESSOR AT UC DAVIS. Do whatever you can to not take him. Take the class later or anything! He is not worth your time. He is very arrogant and unhelpful. He went home early thanksgiving week and told us "thats what you can do when you have a graduate degree." So the head TA had to lead lectures that week. No curve. Just awful.

If you are a genius then it is possible for you to get an A in his class. If not, I recommend take BIS 2A in next quarter..

This class is incredibly difficult and Singer does not make it any better. His lectures are very unclear and expects you to know so much information. I guess pay attention to his lecture slides but even then it is pretty hard to do well in the class.

He was the only instructor teaching BIS2A and I feel he didn't do the course justice. He spent way too much time on his own research and neglected the basics and fundamentals. I'm not sure why he is a main instructor of this course, his tests don't make sense and lectures are useless and I'm a very good student. He curved at the end, so I got an A.

This professor is undoubtedly the worst professor I've ever had at UCD. There are so many assignments we are forced to rush through, none of which pertain to what we discuss in class. His lectures are uninformative, and the discussions don't coincide with them. Tests are impossible to study for. Wo a study group, you'll learn next to nothing.

Because of how large lectures are and how quickly he talks and expects you to learn, expect to teach yourself basically all of the material. He claims to care but I think he cares about his reputation. He can't fail everyone. Ruined bio for me. And my GPA.

Worst professor on Earth. You will only be doing assignment after assignment and teaching yourself. Every midterm has had errors and never has grades posted when he said he would. Puts up study guides to midterms, but no answers. Take an extra quarter if you need to, just don't take his class. Will snap on students.

His tests aren't bad once you learn how to take them, but the only way you'll pass is by forming a study group since you won't learn anything in lecture. I actually got more confused by going to lecture. He gives you assignments and quizzes before you learn the material in class, but when you turn to the TAs for help, they misinform you.

He is terrible. I'm pretty he thinks he is the most incredible person who has ever lived. He doesn't teach you, he just confuses you. I found him rude, since he acted like I was stupid whenever I'd ask a question and tried to push me away. He sent out mid-class evals to try to improve the class, but instead twisted our words and made it worse.

Hi! I'm a transfer student who did perfect in a good community college. I'm a very good student! BUT, this class totally tortured me and I probably will receive my first C or first F in my life! Biology is great, just not with Singer. Condescending and, if you criticize him, will retaliate like a little girl. Lectures used to be mandatory until too many people complained about how useless they were. Tests aren't bad once you get the hang of them, but I only did well because of a strong bio background and good TA. Text book is essential.

Hard to do well; some tips- Write down obscure points he mentions, go to review sessions (if he's not leading them), read the book to get general ideas, because he expects the base knowledge. I had a hard TA and that combined with wrksheets (which directly contradicted laws of chemistry and multiple TA explanations) can bring down grades quickly

Singer is basically the worst professor I have ever taken. Those who say that the class is not that bad, failed all 3 midterms and the final. Only thing that saved them was discussion. Lectures were absolutely useless. He's a nice guy but a terrible professor.

He is literally the worst teacher i've had in my LIFE. Says there is no curve, but curves a little. Rude to students after class and in OH. Too many hws & quizzes. Expects you to know hard material without teaching you the basics. Lectures are messy and he fell behind on syllabus multiple times. Midterms are cumulative (3 + final) none are dropped.

Go to TA office hours, but do NOT rely on them for wksts. Lectures are confusing. They are more harm than good, but go bc there will be test questions relating to them. READ THE TEXTBOOK. Ignore the syllabus, it will change at least 5 times throughout the quarter. Don't talk to Singer, your mental health is worth more than anything he has to say

This class was a mess. The TAs were completely incapable of answering simple questions, and the couple of times they did, the info was conflicting with what we would be told at another timeby another TA by the professor!The professor does not teach out of the book, so there is nowhere to reference for further clarification. I go to every lecture and every time I leave lecture more confused about the subject matter than I was before I walked in. This is a general biology class, and I feel he makes everything far more complicated than it needs to be. I will never take this professor's class again if I can avoid it.

Get ready to self teach. Super boring lectures and not very coherent. His tests are based on test taking strategies rather than the actual stuff that you learn. He cant understand his own questions. Hes redundant which makes class fall behind. I learned more from TA's. If you are an incoming freshman, take bis2c in the fall then 2a next quarter.

Singer is very egocentric. He talked about him asking questions and not being liked by students at the first class. He really thinks this is the best way to teach no matter what feedback he gets from students. Doesn't give answers to the short answer part of the exam and some practice exams. He just wants you to teach yourself everything.

He is a terrible lecturer. Honestly, discussions will be where you actually learn. The reading he gives are short and vague, so it'll only give you a brief idea about the topics. His first test is the toughest, but you'll get used to them eventually (hopefully sooner than later). In his class, you really have to learn how to teach yourself.

He is very confusing to understand, does not thoroughly make the concepts clear to the class. Test has nothing to do with the Nota Bene. He is very unprepared for lecture and if he stops early, the next lecture he doesn't go back to what he missed, he'll just skip it

Singer basically just goes over information that he thinks you learned/remembered from high school. You will realize that he doesn't even teach anything. Take at least Che2A before taking this class! Literally skips over covering stuff we need bc "you already should have learned it in HS". If you never took Bio or are a transfer who graduated years ago-AVOID. Tests not based on the convoluted, unedited reads, lectures are only good for iclicker points. TA taught us how to take his tests, its the only reason I am passing the course.

Worst class I have taken at Davis. If you did not take biology in high school you are doomed because Singer teaches you nothing. Horrible.

For other lower division classes, I usually spend one a day to review before midterm and probably get a B+, but for his class, I have to spend a week . No midterm sample would post before midterm. exams are super hard and he will test something that is unexpected. Avoid if you can.

Avoid at all costs. He is unorganized and slides only scratch the surface of what he tests you on. Read the text book he even says that anything in the textbook is fair game for the test. So read!! Also the textbook isnt the most enjoyable book to read. Very information heavy and he expects you to know it all!Tests are also very specific and wordy

Worst bio class ever taken. Will try to take points off anywhere possible. All learning / test content is in ridiculously long readings you have to annotate for credit. Says he won't test on specifics, but does so anyway. Posts a tiny midterm review and half the answers in the key are wrong anyway. Don't bother.

Lectures are disorganized and only cover surface level information because he assumes youve learned it before. Readings are assigned before every lecture to be annotated and you pretty much learn from those and discussion. Test questions are way too specific and can drop your grade quickly since each question is worth so much. Would NOT recommend.

Grading rubric is unclear, goes at lightning speed and covers nothing during lecture; pretty much only useful for clicker points. Annotating long passages 3x/week for credit; this is the only way you'll learn anything. Midterm/Final reviews are GRADED? CAN AND WILL take points off everywhere, even on DRAWINGS of cells... AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

Singer was one of the professors for my BIS 2A lecture and I did not like his half of the quarter. He was very confusing and did not explain topics well at all. His midterm was very difficult to understand and it felt impossible to ask questions because he was so unapproachable. AVOID IF YOU CAN!

This is one of those classes in which your better off just doing everything on your own. The lectures are more like reviews and they expect you to come to class knowing everything from the daily reading assignments. The only helpful thing was discussion, in which you actually get taught. This course is already hard by itself, Singer makes it worse

Singers lecture is not enjoyable or make sense. He always goes too far on one topic. They are not a lot of practice you can do for test

Do not take Singers class. He is most unorganized professor you will ever have and refuses to work with his students. The online modules that he posts for his class are no help and do not give students an accurate representation of what is due when its due. You have to SEARCH through Canvas to find assignments/tests/worksheets.

He is SO BAD that it's 2 weeks into the quarter and I'm already SO DUMBFOUNDED at how bad he is at teaching that I have to a write a review now. If you haven't taken chemistry GOOD LUCK because I only know what's going on because I learned it last year. worst attitude I've seen from a professor. lectures are very surface level, and readings are very deep in detail. use his lectures as overviews. The worst part is the terrible attitude he has - prepare for passive aggressive remarks when asking a question during office hours. Take another professor, or rely on others to learn. I have never written a RMP review before but I had to for Singer because he's easily the worst professor at Davis. He doesn't know how to teach and he suggests that his student google answers to questions we ask during OH instead of him answering them himself. Literally the worst teacher ever. Don't take him. I learned more from the person who subbed in for my 4th grade teacher when she was recovering from surgery than from Singer. He explains things using terms he's never taught us before. Says "um" at least 4 times per sentence making it impossible to follow anything he says. Everything I learned from this class was from the textbook.

Goes through topics incredibly fast, you're paying UC rate tuition to teach yourself bio. Lectures are incredibly boring and confusing, seems to purposely be trying to confuse us. Honestly if I had a shot every time he said, "um" in a 20 minute lecture I would be drunk enough to forget how painful this class is. I lied, I would be at Sutter.

HOLY MOLY IS HE BAD. Review sessions were shallow because students were afraid of his attacks. Calls people out and tells them to google answers rather than ask him. His lectures were awful and it felt like he was trying to show off that he knows a lot rather than teach us. You need a 95% in the class for an A and it isn't curved. 94.9 % is a A-...

This class made the PHY7, CHE2, and CHE118 classes seem like a lot of fun. Singer lectured haphazardly and his slides contained no information. Also, this class was set up in the most unenjoyable way because of all the busy work and all the clutter on canvas. The only memorable thing from this class was him burping during his review session.

Please avoid at all costs. Very DISORGANIZED and does not know how to lecture at all. It's so bad. His tests were textbook based so they weren't too bad. He would attack students for asking a simple questions. Very rude and unapproachable and doesn't know how to lecture. Expect to teach yourself the material.

Always disorganized. Lectures were usually boring or confusing. Lecture and readings rarely connected for a given day. Took the honors section of the course where we had group presentations and left comments on libre text readings. Neither were helpful in understanding the content. Only helpful resource was the TA but he was also a bit disorganized

I commend Dr. Singer for being truly terrible, I had no idea being this awful of a teacher was even possible before him. He truly doesn't care whether or not his students pass and even boasts about how many of his students fail. Get ready to read 20 pages of information a night and still have little to no idea what will be on the exams. Good luck!

Singer gave me an anxiety attack before the quarter even started. He treats us like kids, is incredibly unorganized, technologically inept, and refuses to learn to improve. We were behind since day 1. He blames students for petty mistakes, is unable to make clear what information is important, and didn't say the iClicker was optional until bought.

Just a FYI, some of the really nice comments left here were done by his daughter to boost his ratings. Singer is one of the most disorganized professors I have yet to meet. He mixes up his words, and expects us to understand what he is saying. He doesn't even know what he's saying, and ends with "you know what i mean." no we don't. we really don't.

BIS2A was not a mandatory course for me and I was taking it for fun, but this professor knows how to take all enjoyment out of academics. His lectures are obnoxious and don't convey much information, and are in general severely disorganized. If you're committed, you will do fine, but unless you are required to take this course, stay far away.

I can only echo all the negative feedback by everyone else here. Extremely disorganized and rude professor who doesn't care about his students and role as a teacher. His lectures and slides are all over the place, and his tests/homework assignments are confusing. He claims that he wants to further our learning but refuses to learn anything himself.

Where do I even start with this man? He acts condescending and is just downright rude to students. I have personally never talked to Singer but I would overhear how he would talk to students when they asked him questions. Also, his office hours were mostly entertainment as he would sometimes be driving and yelling at others. Would not recommend.

Lectures/practice exams are no help to exam preparation. If you want to do well in his class, pay attention to the online readings and do those 3 times through before the exam. Participation took up a good portion of your grade though so that was actually really nice. His exams are really hard and are not to be taken lightly.

Tests were very tricky and I found online practice tests and resources more helpful than lectures. Extra credit was offered on tests and the class has no curve.

He's just not good. The class was okay because only about half of the points came from exams and some points were given back on exams. As a professor, Singer does a bad job just read the rest of the reviews, they're unfortunately true. If you have to take him, you'll survive but it was unpleasant at best.

Yes, he is a bad lecturer with disorganized slides. Yes, he is rude. But his tests are very predictable. He has post-lecture practice questions that are often directly on the test. His wording may be tricky, but you'll learn to outwit it. Make sure you have a good study buddy and TA (doesn't have to be yours!) you can rely on or you won't survive.

Took during brussels summer session. Goes off on unrelated tangents all the time and doesn't finish lectures. Rest of the stuff is our problem. Whole textbook was fair game for exams. At least it was open notes. Take any other professor.

Had him as a guest lecturer for MIC162. Didn't use the MIC, gave only pictures in his slides, and did not speak clearly. Made it tough to understand. Take anyone else.

ALL of my learning in this class was thanks to the TA's (Hottub, Usman, Itai thank you). textbook very dense but helpful. test questions similar to final and midterms. very little curve and few dropped grades. somehow got a 100 on the final to save my grade.

Singer is a bad professor and a worse lecturer who gives unclear, poorly written exams. Avoid if possible.

Uses Tophat to check attendance. Don't show up late (he'll yell). Constantly changes due dates without announcing and falls behind quickly (meaning the HW piles up). Contradicts himself a LOT, doesn't like answering questions, and told us to google the answer to a complex biology question :| Pray you get a good TA.

Singer is a joke of a professor who misleads students about material on tests. If you can take any other professor, do so. He is bad at lecturing and frequently gets mad at students for his own inability to manage class time. His slides are unhelpful and he is defensive at best. Avoid Singer for your own sanity.

His midterm was NOTHING like the practice, many things we've never covered, he didn't provide an equation sheet or redox tower like he said he would. He changes due dates OFTEN (always go with the earliest one, or you won't get points) and doesn't tell you. Inconsistent deadlines as well, canvas says 10am, syllabus says 11am, and NB says 9am.

Singer is a horrendous professor who gives extremely ambiguous exams. His lectures do not align with test content at all. He claimed the practice test would be the best resource to study from, but a grand total of ONE practice exam question was similar to what he put on the first exam. He's also very unapproachable. AVOID!

He doesn't round grades. I got an 89.95 but still ended with a B+. Do the extra credit, it bumps up your grade at least half a percent. If it weren't for Namekawa, I might've bombed the class from how many tangents Singer went on in class. His slides also have almost no information on them which makes it harder to know what's on the exam.

Bro he's actually terrible...goes on random tangents in lecture, learning is done entirely thru hottub and ta's. He misleads us with test material, claimed the final would be 'cumulative' but was majority advanced gene expression that he never went over. Easy to pass the class but you definitely have to work your ass off for an A- or A. Smh

If you look up a**hole in the dictionary, you will find a picture of Singer. He is constantly rude, and you can expect him to yell if you ask a question. His lectures made no sense because he was constantly going on endless side tangents.The tests are vague and poorly written (if he even wrote them himself)! For your own sanity, take anyone else!

Singer is an incredibly difficult professor. His lectures are so disorganized and are mostly pictures. You just have to pick up what certain things he talks about. His tests are very very hard. Very rude when answering questions. Also messes up and confuses himself on what he is saying. Tests also have mistakes and include things he does not cover.

I disliked Singer for his inadequate teaching practices rather than his attitude. I love having a snarky teacher that complains about everything, its entertaining. hw was keeping up with reading and posting peer comments. Which I thought was most unproductive I learned nothing form writing my own comments. Tests were written SO ambiguously.

The professor has their charm from time to time, but I simply don't feel like they do a good job at teaching at all. I found the TA's to be instrumental in my success in that class. I only passed that class because of them, not because of the professor.

RUN AWAY!!! Stopped lecture to stare at late people coming in. Threatened to make Exam more difficult when people asked questions. Nothing taught in lecture was on any of the exams. Exams all MCQ and needed corrections to answers after he read it for the first time after the exam. Lectures are just sidetracked rants. Complete luck I passed at all.

Very unclear expectations for the class. Would consistently make policy then go back and change the policy when people would follow the policy he implemented. Class was not difficult in any way, but Singer always had a way of making you feel bad about doing things he specifically asked you to do.

He's always slightly passive aggressive or pompous when a student asks a questions. Additionally, his lack of knowledge when it comes to operating technology is extremely... questionable. Tophat is a relatively simple website to navigate. Lectures are disorganized and mostly consist of pictures and incoherent ramblings. Listen to the people. Drop.

This professor is absolutely awful. His slides don't have words on them and you have no idea what to write down. The organization of his slides are all over the place and you don't know what connects to what. He's always in a bad mood too.

He is pretty rude both in person when you ask questions and when you email him. It took him 3 days to get back to me and just responded with the word "No." He speaks too fast and his lectures aren't organized, even though I attend all lectures I still have to rewatch the videos to understand.

Take another professor! He makes it clear he does not care about his students telling them directly to their faces in class, someone asks him to put captions on the screen because we couldn't understand him (bro thinks hes a rapper) & he said no, extremely disorganized, review session was pointless. You ask a question he repeats what you said back.

DO NOT TAKE THIS MAN! Is never clear about what's on the test nor material and if you ask he will lose his mind. Says a whole lot of nothing during lecture and makes it mandatory for no reason. Terrible attitude and even worse of a teacher. You will be teaching yourself most of the time, and pray what you know is on the test. RIP if you take him.

I do not recommend him. His lectures are a bunch of nothing. Went to class every day and learned nothing. The only time I learned anything was in the discussion with the TA. He speaks in such language that you don't understand anything he is saying. Run as far as you can from him. I have never wanted to kill myself more than in this class.

By far the worst professor I have ever had. Horrible review session, tells us to memorize nothing. Midterm practice has so many errors, (CO2 can never be an electron donor!) he rambles on lecture learning absolutely nothing. He expects us to be almost experts on the content we read before class. Hopefully Namekawa carries us!

wants the class to be based on asking questions, but then doesn't answer the questions the students ask. Claimed from the beginning that he isn't mean, he's just loud (red flag), but NO HE IS SO PASSIVE AGGRESSIVE AND MAKES NO SENSE I HAVEN'T LEARNED ANYTHING. If you are FORCED to do so, rely on the LA review. And good luck, you WILL NEED IT.

an amazing professor if he wasnt my professor and instead I was able to just watch him run around yelling at students. The practice midterm hasnt changed for two years, yet the answer key for questions that are literally the exact same copy and paste have changed several times...

While I don't think he's mean, he is an objectively difficult lecturer and his practice exams have errors all over them. Students can't do well when you're feeding them the wrong answers. Relied a lot on LAs. Singer seems like he'd be a fun uncle, but not a great professor.

Gets so pissed when any cell phone goes off during lecture when its always his diabetes monitor. Has explicitly said that he cares more about his research than teaching his students, which shows in the resources he gives. Anger management issues. Berrates students for asking any questions. Cold calls people at every lecture.

By far the worst professor I ever had at UC DAVIS

The slides are pretty disorganized and there isn't much room to write new information. You will need to self study pretty much all of the material to do well in this class. There are readings before each class and you are required to write 3 comments. Lectures are mandatory and graded by tophat (location based). Tests are fair (rely on your TA/LA).

Worst professor I've ever had. He expects us to read AND absorb information from the readings (given for every lecture) and gets upset when students don't know the answer after they've been randomly called on. His slides are full of google diagrams that have their own text, yet there are no annotations or comments. Lectures are awful, self study.

I would literally rather get ran over by a Unitrans bus then enter this lecture hall ever again. His midterm scores were genuinely so devastating because he teaches like he's trying to indoctrinate you into a cult. DO NOT TAKE HIM. EVER

I swear this dude hates us. His first midterm had an average of a FAILING SCORE, and he does not curve at all. His lecture slides are very empty, and you have to essentially write down every word he says in lecture, which is very hard because he talks fast. He's pretentious when he answers questions, and has a generally poor disposition. Bad class.

I would rather get ran over by a bus than be lectured by him. He teaches you he's trying to make you join a cult about biological science. He never ensures that students comprehend the material correctly—rather, he rambles on about what he enjoys about. Unfortunate, since he's quite funny. Plain & simple, avoid this man. Funny guy, but god he does not know how to teach and just rambles and hopes you understand. The amount of readings is insane. I am teaching everything to myself through the text, which is very time-consuming. I also learn nothing by going to class, but attendance is mandatory??? so I just waste 3 hours a week by simply going to class.

I have never made a review. However, I fear that it is my civic duty to let future students know: DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. He's a funny guy, and a great conversationalist, but he is a TERRIBLE professor. His lectures are all over the place, and his exams are SO confusing and NOTHING like the practice ones. DON'T TAKE HIM. SAVE YOURSELF!

Terrible profressor. Claims numerous students were cheating on the first midterm and instead of dropping the midterm punishes the whole class by making over the top rules. Tests are impossible if you are not Mr singer. Overall just rude and a really unenjoyable professor. DO NOT TAKE AT ALL COSTS.

I agree with the feedback everybody else is leaving on Prof Singer. His tests are so confusing and it feels like they're written to fail you. The readings are so tedious, and I felt like I didn't learn anything from both the lectures and the reading. I had to rely on Khan Academy. I also sat in the front row, and he was lowks stinky...

Dr. Singer's lectures are confusing and slides are unorganized. It's so easy to get questions wrong because I don't understand what he looks for in an answer. I have to spend extra hours before midterms self-teaching. Luckily, some knowledge from chem saves me from MT1. This's the only bio course for my major so I'm done.Good luck if u have to take

Please do NOT take his class. Took his class with Dr. Namekawa who is amazing. He gives wrong information in class, refuses to answer questions (okay with him being loud but why refuse to answer a question relate to class content?). Give wrong answer keys, write confusing questions. He is passionate but if you want to do well, don't pick him.

Quite honestly the worse professor I have ever taken at Davis. His tests are extremely hard and he asks questions that were never taught I doubt he even knows the answer to them. Lectures are all over the place as he is just talking with zero train of thought. I am constantly teaching myself all the material and watching videos to barely scrape by.

He spends lectures focusing on topics he doesn't test. Test questions try to confuse you. Give SDC students their test grades/packets later than others and doesn't include them in his assessment of a possible curve. The head TA, Usman, doesn't allow other TAs to see test so they can't reveal concepts but gives his discussion sections the answers.

Everything you've read in the other reviews is true, DO NOT take this class with Singer. His lectures often turn into tangents, are super disorganized, and it feels like he's out to get you when he cold calls. Plus his tests are VERY hard. His questions are just paragraphs with unnecessary information and are written to confuse you.

By far the worst professor I've encountered in my life. He is an active barrier to any learning and had absolutely no part in my passing. He claims people think he's mean cause he's from the East Coast -- I have to imagine he means the East Coast of Hell. Would be more effective if he communicated through ASL and faced away from the class.

He's the worst professor I've had at UC Davis. You'll need to teach yourself everything to understand his lecture which is supposed to be the opposite. I recommend to attend the LA lectures — they may seem overwhelming at first, but they actually explains the concepts AND aligns with Singer's lectures and quizzes.

horrible professor, learned everything i had to know from my TA in a once a week 50 minute discussion. goes off on tangents about his research or other complicated things that we don't understand. answers questions with more questions leaving everyone (including himself) confused. slides just have random pictures and the textbook has typos.

he's rated a 1 for a reason. goes on random tangents and is not clear as to what actually needs to be known for exams. tells you that "you have to memorize everything." when you ask a question, rudeeeee and cannot teach. namekawa saved and is probably the only reason I have a chance at passing.

Avoid on own, Namakawa saved me. I got 65/125 on his portion of the class' exam.If it weren't for the required TopHat questions, his lectures would've been empty. Bane of my existence. I left his lectures feeling more lost on the material than I was before, my discussion TA explaining everything from lecture was the only reason I passed his half of the class. I felt too anxious about getting randomly called on during lecture to even listen to his rambles, and the NB mandatory annotations felt useless.

Unclear what hes going to test on. Wackadoodle questions. Yells during lecture. Doesnt respond to emails until you cc' the deans office on them. very unhelpful. lost my midterm and final exam for a week.

He outright said that students are not a priority for him. Namekawa's the only reason people did decent in this class, his test average was far better than singer's. Singer's lecture slides are just images taken from google. Doesn't teach much during lecture, and test questions are crazy wack. They changed the grade cutoffs by 2-3%

Singer does not teach😭 His midterm questions are nothing like the practice. I have no idea where he gets them from! The second half of the course was with a diff prof. and it SAVED me and all my friends. They required attendance for 4%, MT1 12%, MT2 16%, final 35%, discussion 10%. GO TO DISCUSSION the TA teaches and answers questions CLEARLY.

This dude srsly had 7 versions of the syllabus. Also be warned, her daughter apparently gives good ratings (3-5) to inflate his rate my prof rating. He's near bottom when it comes to biology profs at UCD.
