In a course that I had taken at another school and HATED, Prof. Kelly made the course interesting, engaging, and fun. Lots of interactive discussion and activities.

He's not only a really great teacher but he makes himself very available to help his students and you can count on him for more than help academically. He treats his students like individuals and not just faceless people.

Mitch is one of the best profs at this university, if you ever have a chance to take one of his classes, do.

Extremely helpful, makes himself available to students, and is a generally nice person! I would recommend taking a class with him if you get the chance, especially if you are thinking about going into teaching or psychology. Extremely "real" and down to earth...and not bad looking for 40 years old!!

By far my favorite professor. He's very warm, down to earth, fun, and caring. Loves what he does, so it makes the class that much better. The class is the best one i've taken so far at the university.

Great class! If you have to take ed psych, definitely take it with Kelly. Very interested in subject matter and loves teaching the course. Pulls in real world examples of how you'll used what you've learned, plus brings in guest lecturers at night (Dan Gable was one Fall '04 semester)

He makes you care about the class. He also gives you practical information for when we become teachers.

Favorite class I ever took. Loved him. He made it interesting. And explains everything very well.

This guy is good stuff. An excellent professor. He used real life examples, brings in guest speakers, and is rather funny. I really enjoy going to his class 3 days a week, even at 9:30.

Dr. Kelly is a very responsive professor who reaches out to students even after they have left his class. If I have ever have a qustion about academics,whether it deals with education or not, he will answer me the best he can. He goes above and beyond, and I view his personal stories as a way of making the materal relavent.

GREAT teacher. He really does care for the students and is always willing to help. I am having a tough time in the class, but I still enjoy going. Hard work pays off, and he will show you that.

Mitch Kelly is one of the best professors I have ever had. He encourages students to open up and experience the material in various ways. He cultivated my interest in teaching and he still keeps in contact with me. He is caring and enthusiastic and knows how to teach very well. I would highly recommend him to any student.

Dr. Kelly is the best professor I have and probably will ever have. Like other comments have said, don't take this class with anyone other than him! He is so genuine in what he does, and really cares. Would recommend and urge ALL majors to take this class.

Super great! His classes are filled with funny stories from his family and when he was younger. The class is like 50% stories, 25% discussion, and 25% actual book work. No homework, except for a final paper. If you read the book, you can easily get an A-/B+ on tests without any heavy studying.

Professor Kelly was a really good teacher. His stories always somehow tied back into the lessons and were really interesting. He made you feel like he genuinely cared about you. Great class, definitely take it.

Dr. Kelly has been an inspiration. His classes are always very interesting and the stories he tells are very cool. I really enjoyed his class but make sure you read the book! and study for the tests. The final paper seems very intimidating but if you need his help he will help you with anything!

Dr. Kelly did an amazing job teaching this course! He is so relatable and his stories only make you want to listen more. He is willing to assist any student who needs help in and out of the classroom. He genuinely cares and one can definitely tell he enjoys teaching. Class is fun and interesting. Best Professor I had while at Iowa and I encourage everybody I know to take him. He is genuine in his concern for his students and in his love for education. Uses personal stories to teach so it feels more like conversation than lecture. Truly an amazing person.

Dr. Kelly is by far my favorite professor I have ever had. He is always willing to help anybody who asks. He is big on participation because it is a 40ish person class, and its very student based. His tests are very fair, even easy if you study a lot. I enjoy going to his lectures. He knows all names and definitely notices if you are not there.

I have never taken a better college class. Prof Kelly is amazing at what he does, and he makes students WANT to learn what he's teaching. Lectures are funny, filled with personal stories and other real-life events. Students get to participate without pressure. Exams are extremely doable, provided you've read the chapters. Study guides provided.

Kelly is amazing. He talks a lot but what he says is meaningful and helpful to the class. You should read, don't take class for granted. If you don't read the tests will be hard for you.

Dr. Kelly is incredible. Genuinely cares about his students and their education. It's very clear he's passionate about what he teaches, so it keeps you engaged. I've taken three classes with him now. He's hilarious too! Longish readings, and pretty much the only way to get good grades on the tests. I would strongly recommend taking his classes!

Dr. Kelly is the best professor I expect to ever encounter. I wish I would've gone to office hours more so we could've gotten closer. You should read the book, it'll help you out on the tests but I got by just fine without reading. His class was the perfect way to start out every week; he's so funny, his lectures are amazing.

AMAZING teacher! Uses lots of personal stories that connect to the readings in the book. Know the terminology for tests but its ALL about knowing examples of what a term means and being able to identify them. If you just know definitions you won't pass the tests. Puts lecture slides online but stories & examples aren't on those so attend class.

Dr. Kelly is an amazing prof. I had him for Educational Psychology and Measurement over the summer and he made learning fun and coming to class enjoyable. I am going to India to study abroad with him as my prof and I know it is gonna be amazing.

Most relatable, funny, and caring professors I have had. I thought his tests were a little rough. I strongly advise you to do the extra credit, it goes farther than you think. Creates a great environment for a semi-early class.

Mitchell Kelly is easily one of the best teachers I've had. He is very inspirational and teaches well beyond the syllabus about real-life topics. Mitch has great stories and I enjoyed going to each and every one of his classes. Many of the teachers I had in high school took his classes in college as well- Everyone loves him.

Dr. Kelly is probably my favorite professor. His lectures are hilarious and interesting. He also tells a lot of stories that are applicable to the topic and they help teach the material. You do need to read in this class, but if you happen to forget you will also be fine. His classes should be an easy A.

Dr. Kelly was the first professor when I started at the University of Iowa. Him and I had similarities right off the back, and I found myself consistently going to his office hours. He was more than willing to write me any letters I needed, including to get into the Teacher Education Program.

Best professor you will every have. He is hilarious and makes a point to get to know everyone on a personal level. Class is easy, the tests are all multiple choice and not too difficuly if you come to lecture. Cannot stress how great he is enough, take his class!

Easily the best professor at the UofI. Respects all his students and is really enjoyable to listen to. Class content is fairly easy and exams are all multiple choice. If you have to take this class take it with Professor Kelly. You will not regret it. Also, an amazing source to go to for help once you start needing recommendations.

This was taken during an online semester, so I like to think he went easy on us, but he only had 2 tests, and 1 major paper and I received a 96 or above on all 3 assignments. Really kind and funny guy and when I did show up to class, it was always a highlight of my day

Dr. Kelly is a good prof. Hes very laidback and assignments are easy if you just pay attention. I dont understand the huge fuss about him; hes just a good professor and the class itself isnt difficult.

Easily my favorite professor that I have taken a class from at UI. He is an amazing storyteller and uses a lot of real-life examples when teaching class content. There is only two exams, a final paper and a final exam. He is super understanding about student's mental health and observant of cold weather, so cancels class when necessary :)

His seminar was by far the easiest class I've ever taken. There is only one major project for the class and you grade yourself on it. He was fun to talk to and loves to get involved with his students. He is caring and provides great advice. 10/10.

Dr. Kelly is a wonderful professor who actually cares about his students and enjoys using humor while teaching. The lectures were very informative and you rarely need the book except for the one paper we wrote. He uses a lot of personal stories and talks about his family or others a lot which I thought made the class more enjoyable.

Class consists of giving life lessons. Class is very fun and enjoyable. Only three exams throughout semester and he bumps up everyone's grade in the end.

He was able to convey important material very easily and is very good at making sure the information is understood by all.

Take Educational Psychology with Dr. Kelly!! He is an amazing professor and an even more amazing person. He makes lectures interesting and engaging by tying his own personal experiences. Tests are online and can be a little challenging, but he rounds grades in the end. Dr. Kelly truly cares about his job and his students. Highly recommend!
