Very good teacher do the work and participate and you will probably get a good grade
He is rude and not very helpful. The class is unorganized and his lectures are boring. i do not recommend taking him.
Class was easy, very intelligent, yet lectures were very unorganized. He gives handouts with the terms that end up on his exams. Just showing up and participating is 20% of your grade. Take him for an easy A/B!
This was the worst class I ever took at CSUS. He works on whims and doesn't follow his syllabus. There was no need to attend class as ALL lectures were straight out of the book. When asked questions to clarify topics his answer was "It's in the book". The tests were a bit on the hard side but not too hard to pass, particularly if he likes you.
Very funny. Lectures sometime boring but I hate history. He's the only professor that actually talked to me and made me think about things.
Good professor. Easy if you take good notes and do the reading. He talked to us before class that helped to make the class fun.
We have one large paper at the end of the course, and 3-4 "pop" quizzes which are sprinkled throughout the semester. He is very unorganized, He prefers calling his phone rather than e-mail(since he doesn't know how). He also has a tenancy to put down the CSU system, even though he works at one? He clearly has favorites, and will point them out.
This class is easy, the only work that is required is to show up to class and take notes. There is only a mid term and final, and extra credit if you need it. No other papers due or quizzes. I recommend him
I liked this class, professor was very intelligent and a good lecturer. Easy to do well, just two exams, pay attention in lecture.
I had Mitch last semester for HIST 51 and it was a fantastic class. He is immensely intelligent and is a fantastic lecturer. But best of all, he actually talks to the students and wants you to understand what he is talking about. If you want to learn, take him.
Not a big history person, but i enjoyed prof. numark's class a lot. learned a lot.
Come to class, take notes, pay attention, take a couple of exams, get a good grade
Very good professor. I would recommend him to anyone.
Great Professor. Easy if you take notes and study.
Good professor. I like his poetry.
Easy class. I got an A without reading a word of the textbook. His tests are only on his lectures.
Love this course. Lots of reading. I would recommend him.
I recommend him. Easy class. You have to go to class because the exams are only on the lectures.
Easy class. Movies were good.
He is inexperienced and his teaching style is bland. He singles out and embarrasses students unnecessarily.
Dude needs a huge piece of humble pie. He did most of the talking, even though it's a "discussion class" and then criticize us for not participating in discussion. His quizzes were stupid. I learned nothing in this class.
This class was intense. I couldn't ask questions, I didn't dare go to him during his office hours, and how he explained some of the readings was very unclear and confusing. Also, as a Christian, he offended me on several occassions. He needs to stop teaching and find a career at a prison.
Great teacher who truly cares about the topic and has a wealth of knowledge. Will go out of his way to help you if you are putting in the work. He is a hard grader, but fair. His classes are lectures so take notes, study and you'll do fine because the tests are based on the lectures.
It was hard to follow his lectures because he jumps around a lot. There was no room to ask questions without feeling like you were interfering. There was so much information to cover that it should have been more organized. Numark knows what he is talking about.
I actually cried once the semester was over. I am so glad I never have to see him ever again as long as I live. He is just a horrible person. Simply horrible and wretched.
Midterm #1 25%, Midterm #2 25%, and Final 50%. Don't buy the books they are useless for ALL 3 exams. PAY ATTENTION DURING LECTURES!!! Exams simply ask you to REITERATE what you heard during lectures. Choose 3-4 key terms, 500+ word essays for each one. Simply put your notes in paragraph form and you will get an EASY B/A. Quantity over quality here!
The most BORING class you will ever take! Numark just likes to hear himself talk. He will put anyone in the class down and super hardcore about using cell phones and computers. The test are all essay, but it's hard to understand the information because when he lectures he won't follow the outline. DO NOTTTTTTT take this class!!
I don't know what people are talking about. Dr. Numark is easy and interesting for a history teacher. He was really nice to me and helped me prepare for exams.
My friend told me that people said mean things about Dr. Mitch. I thought he was great.
Good class. Good professor. 2 exams and a paper.
I loved this class. I learned so much about India.
The class was awesome. The professor knew so much about India. I think he lived there for 3 years and loved it. My favorite part of the class was the presentation week. Some students cooked food. Some students played their own Indian music.
Professor Numark is so funny. Every day he made the class laugh. You have to do a lot of reading because class is mostly talking about the reading. Not much work except for reading and participating in discussion.
He is so funny. He makes fun of himself a lot.
Mr Numark had his favorites. I was not one of them. I asked him a question in class once, and his answer was to humiliate me in front of the other students. I walked to my car crying... When I think of Numark, I think about how badly he made me feel everyday that semester.
Professor Mitch made history fun for me.
He was a alright teacher. I got an A basically because i did the work and came to class. however, i do not like him. He humiliated me in front of the entire class during my presentation. i loved history but he basically sucked the life out of it from me.
DONT LISTEN TO THESE COMMENTS! let this be your WARNING. i made the mistake of listening to the comments and ended up w/ a horrible teacher. I guarantee any of the good comments are written by him (no joke)! scattered lectures, fast, unclear, intimidating, NOT FUNNY! book is useless cause 5 lect. are covered in one paragraph of book.
It may say that you dont have to go to lecture. And this is true because he doesnt take role. But if you dont go, then you are screwed! whatever he talks about in class is summed up in a simple paragraph in books bought.WORST PROF IVE HAD YET! get any other one you can.
I have read the comments below and really don't know why people think that of him. I thought he was a great professor. He is really passionate about history and that is shown in his lectures. He has a good sense of humor. He is strict: miss more than two classes and you fail, but he is not the monster people have made him to be.
I actually learned a lot from this class but I don't really care for Prof Numark. He makes a lot of weird jokes and innuendos and thinks that he is hilarious. He is very knowledgeable but he is a Jewish man teaching about the history of Christianity so he is a little biased. Go to class, take good notes, name drop during exams and you'll do fine.
worst teacher ive ever had in the history of college. Only class i have ever dropped! He is a total dush. Not to mention is not vauable for learning whatsoever. Do your best to avoid this class.
Dr. Mitch makes you do a lot of work. You have to read a lot and do research. I like him. I learned a lot. Take his class if you wan to learn.
I <3 Mitch! Lol, anyone who says Numark was a bad prof obviously didn't go to class. He didn't make us waste money on a book, instead everything was from lecture so we knew what we were expected to know for the exam. Numark moves kind of fast, so you need to be a good note taker, but he knows his s***. Don't be a slacker and you'll do great
Really good professor. If you want to learn take Dr. Numark History 100.
Professor Numark made me feel that I was actually in college and not Shat State
I learned a lot. The reading mostly sucked but Dr. Mitch made class really fun.
Easy. Go to class, take notes, study and get an A.
Go to class and take really good notes. All you have to do is study those notes and you will do well on the 2 essay midterms and final.
Huge Little Man complex. Enjoys ridiculing students when he can. Anhilates his own lecture skeletons by skipping around. Expects you to write 1200 word essays on every point covered in lectures in one hour FLAT. He doesn't even grade his own papers and has his "grader" do it. He's a jerk - avoid this professor~!
Has to be one of the worst professors EVER. Any positive comments are probably him going on here pretending to be a student. This guy loves to listen to himself. Berates people who ask questions maybe to make himself feel like a big man (looks like he's 5'1") and don't believe the easy grade-dude doesn't even grade his own papers!
WORST professor I've ever had. He is a mean, small man. He likes to embarass people. He skips around his lectures. He tells you off if you don't address him as DOCTOR Numark. Ass. He makes a grader read your paper and he marks you off on crap he says is not important on his lecture. So do yourself a favor SKIP this professor and class!
Unbelievably rude, obnoxious and pretentious. His lectures are fast and highly unorganized. He doesn't even follow his own lecture guides, his grader is an imbecile (he doesn't grade his own papers! it's beneath him). He barely showed up to his own class - absent 4 times! I should have dropped but its not my style. AVOID!!
I dont understand the negative comments. He gives no homework or quizes. He only gives 3 exams and that's it. The class is very funny and always a pleasure. If you just come to class and take good notes there's no reason not to get an A. You really have to want to fail to do bad in this class.
If you posted a negative comment for this professor then it's probably because you didn't study for the exams. He is a great professor and recommend him to any student. His lectures are one of a kind. He makes the class exciting and very funny.
If you are looking for a fun, exciting and easy class, then take his class! He doesn't give out any homework. There are only three exams and he tells you exactly what to study before the exams so you don't study the wrong topics. If you posted negative comments it's probably because you didn't come to class and study for your exams.
Great teacher in advance classes - he will test your logic and make you back up your opinion. He's too smart to be a professor at Sac St
Numark is the kid of professor that you'll always remember, for better or worse. Out class was pretty divided, but I thought he was a pretty decent guy. Very animated, and completely invested in the lecture and discussing with students. Somewhat abrasive, good overall, through not for everyone.
Sac State has lots of really good professors. This is not one of them. He was not a very kind man. I agree that he was abrasive and I don't feel like he treated people fairly in class.
I LOOOOVED this class! Dr. Mitch is one of the most relaxed, fun professors that I've ever had. Do the readings, focus on your research project (if it's a 100 class), and interact with the class and you'll be fine. He's amazing, don't be deterred by his approach at the beginning of the semester.
Dr. Mitch was one of my favorite teachers. He took the time to go over a paper with me in detail. Thanks! He is passionate about history and made it interesting. Best part, you DON'T have to buy a textbook for his class! How great is that? Dr. Mitch set the bar for me, as far as history teachers go. I highly recommend him.
Second time taking one of Dr. Numark's classes. One of my top five HIST. professors. Great Professor! He will not require you to do petty assignments, but he will require you to display your knowledge of class materials through discussion. Participate in class, read the assigned chapters, and you will do fine. Good sense of humor too!
great professor and great lecturer! make sure you go to all the classes cause theres no powerpoints just him talking so if u miss a day your screwed. his outlines are easy to follow and all his tests are essay format. very easy class and no hw or textbook! i would def recommend him!
This class is very easy if you come to every class and take good notes. The class is solely based off of his lecture so write everything down. Also the only tests are midterm and final and no other classwork. Attendence is not required but again if you dont come you probably wont pass. He is disrespectful though and hates electronic devices.
Third class with Dr. Numark. He is a teacher for history majors. Very reasonable demands and asks you to support your arguments which apparently is challenging for some people. Great guy even though he comes off as caustic at first to frighten off "pretenders". Highly recommend for anyone who takes their career in history seriously.
Dr. Numark comes of VERY intimidating with a very strict no electronic device policy to maintain a tradition University environment. However, he is a very nice guy, meeting with him during office hours will show that. His exams are essays based on his lectures which are interesting as he is passionate about history.
WILL scare you on the first day with his strict guidelines but is a chill professor. one midterm and 1 final NOTHING ELSE attendance not madatory but helps if you want an A.
A little offbeat, but an excellent instructor. Follow his rules and attend the class and you will be fine. Do not think you can get over on this professor; you cannot!
He tries to act tough but he really isn't. He's pretty clear but will definitely state things wrong every once in a while. Go along with his rules, go to class, & take notes and there is no way you won't get an A.
If you didn't pass this class then you didn't show up once. 1 midterm 1 final all lecture based so you don't have to buy any books. He acts tough by saying you have to know all the lectures but he told our class the week before the exams so as long as you take good notes, go to class, and study you'll do fine
1 midterm and 1 final, nothing else. both are essays so they're easier than mult. choice. awesome professor and his lectures are really interesting. no textbooks. i never liked history until i took this class, and i got an A.
The BEST history Professor. Come to class take notes youll get an A. Pretty easy grader no surprises in his class one midterm one final both are essays.
this teacher totally made the class seem really really hard at the beginning of the semester but make sure to pay attention and work hard. don't buy all of the little books he mentions at the beginning of the semester, i did and i didn't even use them. the best advice is to practice, practice, practice righting your essays for the exams
Dr. Numark is the kind of professor who makes class enjoyable without making it a joke. He is a generous grader for underclassmen who are taking his lower division classes. He has zero tolerance for electronics, so have everything turned off and put away before class starts.
This is pretty easy as long as you show up and take notes. No homework, your grade is based on two exams (Midterm and Final). For each test, you have to write about 1200 words on one topic, not hard as long you take notes. He has ZERO tolerance for electronics. He tries to make lectures exciting. Attendance is not mandatory. Don't buy the book.
Dr. Numark, now that's one interesting individual. The first day he tried to scare off the students & was pretty much being a complete A hole, but after that day he never acted like that again. Only 2 test, a Midterm and a Final. Each is about 1200 word essay on a topic he gives you in advance. I showed up to his class 6 times the entire semester.
Strict cellphoneelectronics policy. 1 miderm and final both the same in class essay based on lectures. Come to class to learn the lecture and he tells you what topics for midterm and final. Offers extra credit - too much work to get. Practice essay writing.
Don't get on his bad side and you will be okay! He can be a bit intimidating but that is just to weed out those who are not serious. He is always available for help and will assist you with your writing. He is an extremely easy grader and definitely worth taking!
I really enjoyed the subject matter in the class beforehand, so I took this class for fun. The lectures are super interesting and I took tons of notes! There's 1 midterm and 1 final (blue book/in-class on lecture info ONLY). I was really confused because I got an A on my midterm and thought I did well on the final, but ended up with a D overall.
The class is solely lecture based, with no supplemental power points, reading, or homework. Your grade is comprised of the midterm and the final, both of which must be a minimum of 1250 words and are expected to be hand written during class time. The "outlines" he gives are spotty at best, as they only follow about a third of what he talks about
Numark is a really good professor, your grade is based on two things (midterm and final) which are both in-class essays. For my class he told us the topics that were going to be on the essay so it made studying really easy. Show up to class everyday, take really good notes, and practice writing your essays multiple times to prepare for the finals.
Not a lot of busy work. Easy if you go to class. Gives you outlines of lectures. Great lecturer. Just need to study for the midterm and final. Practice practice practice writing essay exams.
Dr. Mitch is a bit weird but he is totally hilarious. You have to do the reading for the class but it isn't much although some of it I had to read several times. He is sort of crazy about cellphones. He is really interesting, passionate, and funny. I would take him again. I liked the movies better than the readings.
Dr Mitch is an amazing professor. I usually hate history but DrMitch made it really interesting. His lectures don't make me fall asleep. He sort of like a funny nutty professor. He drank someone's water and spit it out because it wasn't his. He walks around the class and lectures. Just take notes and and study for tests and you be fine.
I'll start with saying that Professor Numark is obviously a great historian. That being said, he's incredibly pompous and tells you almost every class how accomplished he is. He constantly cancels class, which gives the impression that he does not care about the class, but has extremely high expectations. I've had much better Profs at JC.
Thinks he's funny and by swearing a lot I don't know if he believes his class gets any better. He's often late and will notify you a few minutes before class that he's running an hour late. A wierd sense of humor and personality. Made us buy 5 books we only used perhaps two. Just stay away from this professor if possible.
Worst professor I've had at Sac state, he gives lectures that are all over the place, no powerpoint at all, and are very fast. Only word you recognize is the F bomb every other sentence and it gets annoying. One midterm, one final, that's it grading wise, in class essays 1,250 words. I taught myself on both essay topics. Take someone ELSE.
Easy just 2 exams that's all. Read one chapter of book French Revolution.
Great Prof. He's very animated. He told us what on tests and made it easier to study. I didn't read the textbook.
Dr Mitch is best history teacher. He's really entertaining. Gives you outlines. He said he wouldn't give us topics before tests but he did. Practice writing topics. I didn't read books and I got A.
Professor Numark may seem really strict at first but he really isn't. He pushes you to think about things. He really help me with my paper when I met him one on one.
I loved this class. After this class I watched Showtime's The Tudors in a totally new light. I loved everything about Tudor England except Henry the 7th. The Tudor history book was dull, but Professor Numark's lectures are totally amazing. I got an A on midterm and final and I only read a little bit of the books.
Dr. Numark is a professor who communicates the reasoning why History is important. His courses rely on class participation; he wants you to read the material, be able to discuss and support your analysis and thereby grow from the experience. Classes are lively and thought provoking. His expertise is thorough and he will call you on BS. Grades fair.
Dr. Numark wants you to understand the importance of events not just memorize the dates. Class dicussions are interesting and articulate. If you follow his instruction you will not only know the material but be able to discuss it intellectually. Easily one of my favorite teachers on campus. Watching him call out lazy students is the best.
Loved the class. Mitch is funny, intelligent and legitimately wants students to pass. He's not going to coddle you though, read the material and raise your hand in discussion. Really accessible at office hours as well. Great for Non history majors too.
The professor is really hilarious. He really wants students to succeed. He spent a lot of time helping me find a topic that I liked.
super funny guy that curses every three words.
Dr. Mitch is an incredible professor, his lectures were amazing even though he can be rude at times. But if you dont say or do anything stupid you shouldn't be humiliated by him, 2 tests, no homework, dont need to read. Studying will be a drag, you need to be prepared to write about 5 pages on each test. If you take notes & study you should be good
There's 2 tests. There is a midterm and a final. He will most likely give you the topics before hand to study. You will need to be prepared to write about 5 pages for each test. He can be rude but is extremely funny.
Great teacher with in depth knowledge of his class topics. Great teacher not too large of a work load, very fair, and accessible outside of class! Take Dr Numark
good professor, talks like a regular guy, relates to students with great tv shows. only two graded assignments: the midterm and the final. both are in class essays. if you go to class and take good notes you will pass for sure.
If you want to take Professor Numark's class for a GE, I highly recommend it. It's really easy, and all you need to do is show up to his lectures and take good notes. He grades only on Midterm & Final, but as long as you remember everything from your notes you'll be fine. Don't need textbook. He's really nice & funny, and DON'T EVER use your phone.
I took Doctor Mitch for GE. He's a good prof. Walks around class and talks. He told us topics to write on.
Dr Mitch's class made me feel like I really was in college. I learned so much about India. All of the names were difficult for me at first but the discussion of the Ramayana and the movie were really great. The final day was a lot of fun with students presenting some food or something else from India.
Professor Newmark class was really amazing. He walks around and talks about European history. My favorite lecture was on the American revolution. Make sure you go to class and never use your cellphone. Go to class and study for the tests and you'll be fine.
He brought his dog to class. 10/10.
Dr. Numark is an amazing professor! Hands down the greatest man I've ever met at Sac State. At first I was intimidated by him, but overtime I learned many new skills only through his teaching and he allowed me to develop a mind for writing history truthfully. Please do not listen to negative comments about him. He is the best teacher at Sac State
Dr. Numark is one of the best professors I've ever had hands down. He definitely teaches you the tools on how to be a historian; from reading materials properly, writing papers efficiently, and how to treat primary and secondary sources. Absolutely a great guy and if you just cooperate with him and do your work, you will be just fine.
Funny teacher, definitely tries to connect with his students. His class is 50% midterm and 50% final which sounds stressful, but if you show up to class and take notes on the outlines you'll pass. He gives you the outlines on what to write for the midterm and final and gives a minimum of 3 topics for the midterm and final, so you know ahead of time
His lectures are pretty heavy but if you take good notes, you'll pass the class. Studying is definitely mandatory though. Its 50% final & 50% midterm, so just do good on both & you're solid. He also makes awkward jokes.
