I had Professor Pumar for Math 215 which is mathematics for teachers. Don't skip any class so that you can understand all concepts. Really helpful and explains everything. Study from the notes he gives and you'll be fine. Used the books only for homework assignments.

False rating are given to this professor. Makes Calc 1 a very hard class. He makes the class more on conceptual stuff rather than "math" itself. Wouldn't recommend him take schwesky or someone else.

I didn't think I could like math again after Precalc but Pumar made Calc 1 fun and interesting. Unlike previous Math courses, Calc 1 relies more heavily on concepts rather than algebra so it can get complicated at times but he relates them to real life situations which I found very helpful. I will definitely be taking him again in higher maths!

Professor Pumar is very good at explaining and breaking down the concepts of Calculus I. He is always willing to help his students and goes over problems during office hours to further break down any concepts that students are struggling with. I would definitely recommended taking him. I took him during the summer so he might be easier in reg sem.

Lecture notes are online but you still have to show up for class since you will be having a quiz every time you meet (sounds scary but it's very helpful) . He will "drop" your worst test grade and replace it with the Final if you get a better grade on that. Homework is online. Lectures are very easy to understand. LEARN HOW TO USE YOUR CALCULATOR!

261 is hard in general, but his lecture notes are great. If you ask questions he'll explain. He likes to make the class explain things to each other so he can gauge our level of understanding. I personally really enjoyed his style of humor, very ready for banter and sarcasm.

Pumar teaches really fast, so don't even think of falling asleep in class. No calculators were allowed most of the time. He let us use it for 1 test and 1/2 of the exam. you have to print the lecture notes before class, which is A LOT. His tests are just okay and he curves a lot, which makes your grade really good.

Pumar is awesome and has great sense of humor, not to mention good looking haha! But his class is great he has amazing study guides and lectures a lot (sometimes it's a little too fast) but he is definitely fair and will explain if you don't understand. Stats isn't very easy but he is a good teacher you just have to really study . Got a B in class

Great lecturer. He wants you to have a strong grasp of the basic concepts. He will cover everything but move fast; but, he is always accessible outside class and super helpful and arranges extra meetings. You have to work really hard for an A, but you'll have an amazing concept of Calc1 if you do the class properly.

The lectures are a bit fast but he always leaves room for any questions . Teaches really well and his lecture notes are accessible online. HW every night but it's not that hard, just tedious. Reading these comments I'm not gonna lie, Pumar can be a little sassy sometimes and I could see how his tone may make you feel a little stupid. But when you really get to know him, he's actually a really great guy who cares about his student's success. His lectures are beyond helpful and he can be really funny sometimes. Pumar can get snarky at times but he's one of the better math professors. His lectures/section notes are better than the book so don't skip class. Difficult tests (the final was easier) but curves if necessary. Go to office hours because CAS wait times suck. Form/join a study group the first week if not the first day of class and meet regularly.

let me start by saying that if you're taking his class just to pass, and play around then don't. Professor Pumar is an amazing instructor with a sarcastic sense of humor. Started off the first day with a mean girls reference and I knew it was gonna be a great semester. One of the best math teachers I ever had but he talks a lotttt about baseball. Tests are pretty hard but he is generous with curving and if you study the final will be a breeze. The study guides are lifesavers so do them!!! Overall it was fun!

I've really liked Pumar's class so far. He makes his lecture notes available on Canvas, and so far they're super helpful. He holds long office hours, and I've found him to be really patient and good at explaining things when I've gone in and asked questions. Weird seeing people call him rude (he can be sarcastic, but he's usually funny).

Pumar will breakdown each step for you if you ask. Very funny and passionate about the subject. No textbook needed only MyMathLab and all notes can be printed out. If you pay attention and do the homework you'll definitely pass his class no doubt about it.

Prof. Pumar is an amazing instructor. I struggle in Math and he made the class fun- for being a statistics class. You have to do the homework on Statlab if you want to pass the exams. Greatest Professor for Math, offers plenty of extra credit to help boost your grade and will work with you for things you do not understand. Has three exams in total (including the final), quizzes every week, so study and homework assignments for nearly every chapter. Make sure you have enough time to study for everything, especially for his exams!

Stat is not an easy subject. It's math and English combined. Pumar explains clearly and tries his best but you also have to put some work. He is chill and talks about everything so the class is not boring. Pay attention, listen to him in class, do the homework and review the notes, you'll get an easy A, Curves a lot. I took Prof Pumar in the summer. He was simply awesome. Its so nice reading these reviews from all the lazy students who came to A MATH CLASS thinking that this is the same as their sociology lecture. In a MATH class you study all day all night. Thats just normal. His class wasnt even that hard. He kept asking us every 2 mins if we have Qs.

Math classes are supposed to be hard, but professor Pumar made it really easy. If you do all the problems from the study guide, its an easy A.

He is cool, but NOT easy. His method of teaching is way different (not old school) than the other professors in Math department. His tests are difficult because you would never see such questions neither in his homework nor in his study guides. If you want to challenge your math skills then take him. Professor Pumar is an amazing professor. He is passionate about teaching math and he is creative with the questions when it comes to the exams. He offers extra credit and curves the grades. You should have a quiz for a chapter, 4 exam and 1 final. The final is cumulative. It's not an easy class. You must learn hard to pass this class with an A. He knows it's hard so he does curve your grade, gives extra credit. He answers any questions you ask, so don't hesitate to ask him. He is amazing. Take him if you're interested in Statistics.

Somehow Pumar made Statistics a very enjoyable class. He's knowledgable on the subject, yet relatable and good with class banter. This subject definitely isn't easy, but if you're willing to ask questions and put in even a little bit of effort, Pumar will break things down and guide you in the right direction.

Great Professor! His lecture notes are very helpful, and his study guide questions resemble the quizzes. He does move at a fast pace, and this class is not an easy A. I worked my butt off and got an A in his math 260, and I'm currently in his math 261 class. He's big on curving quizzes/tests, and is very fair.

He goes a little fast, but nothing too drastic. Also, the worksheets and homework are easy points and are amazing practice for the tests/quizzes.

An amazing professor. For lectures, if you miss a class for whatever reason, he uploads the notes on to canvas for you to refer back to. It is VERY helpful when studying for tests. His tests are straight forward. As long as you do the study guide and understand it, then you will get a guaranteed A on the exams.

Very great guy. My only hangup is with his exams sometimes including things we never covered in depth in our homework and study guides. It comes out of nowhere almost. Say you cover multiplication and division and get square roots in your test. Just confusing. But otherwise very awesome and fair grader.

Prof Pumar is a cool guy, but does not really check hw extensively (only for credit) Tests should be the crux of your grade and you should REALLY study hard through doing the problems from the hw to know how to do the problems for the tests and the study guides. Final replaces one of your tests as well. Overall, just work hard and you'll get an A

This is my second class with Professor Pumar. Trigonometry was no walk in the park thats for sure and Professor Pumar constructs his class in a way that really challenges his students. His study guides are wondrous tools that actually help you pass your tests and understand the material. Hes very welcoming and always ready to help. Hes amazing!

His notes are helpful and going to tutoring is KEY to passing his class. He's a really funny guy and has the most patience I have ever seen from any professor in my life. The lectures go by really quick! Luckily, if you missed a few problems in class you'll be able to find the problems done step by step on the online posted notes. Your grade is nearly dependent on your test scores but there are opportunities to boost it by doing homework and study guides. Overall, a great professor. I would take again.

You can tell this guy is very passionate about math. He's funny and totally gives fair lectures. The more you make time to go to lectures and office hours, the better. But beware: you have to give effort to pass! (This isn't a walk in the park. His quizzes and exams are also more in depth than the notes.) This means YOU HAVE TO READ THE TEXTBOOK!

Pumar's been super helpful since we went online. He literally sent us a study guide that was very close to his exam. Everyone I've talked to is doing okay on the exams.

Took this professor twice! Enrolled in 240 and 260! From the start, he lets you know what you should expect. Uses his iPad to teach which surprisingly helps a lot as he later uploads the notes. And, your grade reflects on what you put in!! COVID-19 really made the material difficult for me but I know in-class I would've been a better experience :(

(Originally an in-person class prior to the coronavirus) We used a free interactive textbook in class which was a great resource + video lectures. There was a LOT of coding in this class with the program R. He replaces your lowest exam score with your final exam grade if it was higher. He was also VERY generous with the curves on each exam.

Professor Pumar is a really good looking man and hes very kindhearted. He is very respectful and gives a lot of feedback, and a lot of opportunities for extra credit. He really loves what he teaches and he wants all his students to succeed. If you dont do your work you will fall behind. Attend office hours and take advantage of CAS tutoring.

Took Professor Pumar in a 5-week summer course. He lectures thoroughly and assigns hw for credit, not for accuracy, which is the sensible way to do it. Beware of pop quizzes. Grading's a bit test heavy. Highly recommend for his lecturing style and competence as well as empathy, which makes all the difference in upper mathematics courses.

Math is hard. Professor Pumar makes it easier by providing you with the completed lecture notes, and if you pay attention during lecture, tells you most of the things you need on quizzes or tests. He does occasionally want you to conceptually connect past concepts with new ones so some questions may seem brand new and require a bit of thinking.

The only criticism I have is he can sometimes be very linguistically complex because of his math major background compared to other explanations of the same topic, that you can find on the internet or with other professors. Aside from that he gives out complete lecture notes and is more than happy to review during office hours.

Very good professor. Explains concepts very well and is very lenient for online COVID classes. There is a quiz every week with the homework for that quiz due. Most quizzes were done in groups/partners. There is a lot of homework though and it is very lecture heavy.

5 week summer course which I dont recommend unless you're already familiar w/ PreCalc. He uses an iPad to teach and provides his notes w/ solutions for each problem. Has pop quizzes, gives extra credit and there's a lot of HW to help you get familiar with the material. I DEF would take again and would get higher grade in a normal semester

Pumar is a great prof. He lectures using his tablet and you do the classwork on a separate sheet of paper. He does a good job of explaining the material. Tests are tough but fair.

You can easily pass calc if you work for it! Pumar is so generous with grading, gives EC, partial credit, and prepares you well for quizzes and exams with the huge amount of practice problems and hw assigned (if you do them). Stay on top of the work/study, and youll be fine. Hes definitely a huge math nerd, but good lecturer nonetheless ;)

Math is not my thing and somehow I managed to get an A in his class. Great lectures and his practice tests are super helpful. Do those, the HW, and the extra credits and youll be prepared for his tests.

Pumar is a pretty good teacher. He isn't too big on hw, there are 4 hw packets that get turned in every 3 weeks. The tests weren't hard either, he gives packets of notes and a study guide that is very similar to the open note tests. Zoom meetings are also recorded and posted later. One of the best math professors I've had! (Online cuz COVID btw)

Calculus is hard, and he makes the best of a class some are destined to fail. He's clear and a solid teacher but fast paced, make use of his office hours and tutoring if you're not fantastic at math. Lots of quizzes and regular tests that can be tough, but not in any unfair way. Solid teacher, tough class, the usual.

I took calculus 1 over WINTER and I feel that Professor Pumar did the best anyone could do to teach calculus over the course of a month. There was a lot of homework assignments along with 3 tests and a final. He goes over every problem during lectures and holds office hours for any help needed. This professor is great, calculus is just tough.

Professor Pumar is a rarely incredible professor. He build a very organized class because he wants wants his students to to succeed with little stress. He plays music during breaks and is consistently patient and empathetic when explaining difficult concepts. I took calculus 1 with him during the 5-week winter session and am so grateful I did.

When I took this class , Professor Pumar said there was going to be a lot of pop quizzes. He wasnt wrong. Almost every class we had one but honestly they were easy. I took his 8 week class online and it was great. A lot of work since it was a short time but still professor pumar took time for anyone who had questions. Study guides were given to us and extra credit opportunities as well. Do the work and follow along you should be fine.

Lectures are clear and thorough. If you don't understand something, he is available to help either in class or in his office hours. There is homework for every chapter segment as well as a study guide that counts as extra credit. It seems like a lot but it really helps you prepare for the tests. I took Professor Pumar's class for 5 weeks in the summer and did well. At times there was a lot of homework (always do it because it helps on tests) but it was not too bad. He records lectures and always has office hours after class. I had to miss a week of class but he was very understanding and accommodated my needs.

Very awkward and funny and does really good lectures. Study guides count for extra credit. Uses Wiley plus which is awesome. He doesn't use class time very effectively, will sometimes give us 20-minutes to do a 3-minute problem and we just sit in silence for that whole time because he never has us do group work. Pretty good teacher otherwise

For Stats homework was on wileyplus, with unlimited attempts. Do the study guides, they are extra credit and really do help to prepare for tests. His tests were not that bad, he curves if the average is low.

I enjoyed his class. I usually don't do well in math but with the help of Professor Pumar, I was able to pass the class. Attendance is crucial. Miss one day of class and you'll have a hard time catching up. Study guides are worth extra credit on tests!

His class was a bit difficult. However, it is doable. He tries to make the exams as easy as possible. He curves every exam. There is a good amount of homework to do. He gives extra credit for exams by doing the classwork and study guides. I recommend not procrastinating in this class. He seems intimidating but he really cares about his students.

Professor Pumar is one of the best math instructors Ive ever had. He makes you download these packets and goes over them in lecture and explains them throughly. If youre ever confused go to his office hours; hes willing to help with any questions and hes super friendly. His study guides can be turned in for extra credit.

Calc is hard but Pumar made it doable. I had him during the summer session and it was also my first class at Pierce but I feel like his lectures were really thorough and he gave lots of examples. His tests are hard but he gives partial credit and usually curves them. Honestly, he's a great person and just wants you to do well, 100% recommend him.

Papa Pumar and his fill-in sheets make it so you only need to write down the important stuff. his tests are fair but can have a couple of curve balls. his curves on a bell curve. his tests have an above-average rate of conceptual questions rather than a million "show me you know how to use a calculator" questions. final is easier than his tests

AMAZING PROFESSOR!! I took him over the summer, for Calc 1 his 8 week session. He is quite possibly the best math professor I have ever had. If you have the opportunity to take a math class with him, HIGHLY RECOMMEND. He has study guide's for each of his exams, and their extra credit on the exam. Professor Pumar is one of the best math teachers I've ever had. He has great lectures and tries to make sure you really understand the topic. He gives extra credit and study guides to practice for the test, he really wants you to succeed. He is a great teacher but also a fun person to talk to. He's kind and even gave us donuts before the final.

After abt 6 years from my last time taking a math class I took the summer course so I found it to be very challenging to get up to speed, but Prof. Pumar goes above and beyond to help students understand the material. Do the homework, extra credit assignments, and go to office hours. Nice guy, and a great teacher.

I had drop Calc 2x before him. I took him for Calc 1 summer, 8 week session. He is the best math professor I have ever had. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND. He has study guide's for each of his exams (do them for help + extra credit on the exam). Could've gotten a B if I'd slept before Exam 2. His notes were helpful, explained really well, and Answered all Q's.

It was a hard class and took effort to succeed. I think I could have gotten an A if I had put more effort in at the beginning. I would %100 choose a class with him again.

Best professor I've had. You will learn a lot in his lectures by showing up, taking notes, and seeing how he solves example problems. Before each test, you have the chance to complete a study guide and additional worksheets. Do the homework on a consistent basis. He holds office hours outside of class, so ask for help. Ended up with a 95%, easy.

He makes you feel like you're in high school, which is a great thing.

I took Math 261 over winter which was my mistake. Professor Pumar was a great teacher and made learning fun, however because of the winter time frame I had to drop the class as it was moving way too fast. If he taught in spring I would definitely take him.

Trust the process with Pumar, he's a great professor and a great guy. Also, he's not "judgemental" like some of these reviews claim. Simply a man who's got jokes, people just need to learn the difference between fun sarcasm and rudeness. If you can, take him! Not an easy class if that's what you're looking for but if you want to learn, this is it.

I took him in the Spring of 2022 and he was honestly the best math teacher I have ever had. If you attend his class every day and do the homework because your grade in the class relies heavily on what grade you get on the exams and final. He also replaces a bad test score with whatever you get on the final if it was better! Great professor!

Took him during Winter session which was difficult but he made it far less stressful than it could have been. His lectures were all written out beforehand with space for information and examples. He cares about his students even if he's tough, and even brought the few of us remaining coffee and donuts for the final. Funny too. Really love this guy!

Professor Pumar was an amazing Calculus 1 Professor. His class is difficult but if you adequately utilize his study guides for exams and complete homework on time it is manageable. Exams were always easier then study guides. His office hours are very helpful and frequent, even when he had to cancel his normal hours he made time for new ones.

Professor Pumar was a great math professor. I took him during the winter session so the class was heavily truncated, but I still learned a lot. There's one homework packet due each week with an exam at the beginning of the following week. There are also study guides that you can do for extra credit. His notes and lectures are outstanding. Take him!

Amazing professor. I didn't try in this class, but for those who put in minimal effort I promise you this class is great. He's kinda test heavy but his tests are rewritten questions from the study guides he provides. Study guide completion is free extra credit. Homework is easy and he's always available during office hours.

this professor is honestly the best he goes through everything and makes sure you understand it. he does give a lot of homework but it helps a lot for the exams. he honestly is the best I would take the professor again 100%. he also gives examples for concepts so that it is easier to understand.

All the homework is given at the beginning of the unit and you have until the due date. If you are struggling take advantage of his tutoring at CAS! I failed this class the first time I took it and was able to get an A when I took it with him. Just pay attention, try, and you will do fine! Making friends in class to work together also helps a lot !

This professor is easily my favorite. He is a tough professor but so worth it to learn from in the long run. Be prepared to work hard and give this class your best. He will always be there to support you and provide humor to soften the mood. He always has good office hour times and responds to emails within a good time frame.

I had Pumar for Calc 1 and knew I needed to be in his class again for Math 262. He is extremely caring and is one of those professors that just loves what he teaches. Being in his class has taught me far more than calculus, I have come to appreciate the hard work it takes to achieve something. If you want to learn calculus well, please take Pumar.

Pumar IS a teacher in the truest sense of the word. Very willing to help until you understand. His expectation of performance is made clear right from the beginning and does not change. Follow the notes and study guides. I took 260, 261, 262 with him. I started out thinking I was not smart enough and left with 3 A's and a love for Math. Thank you.

Pumar is truly a great professor. Thought I wouldn't be able to pass this class but I stayed patient attended all office hours and tried to learn the subject. He's caring, funny and gives you the grade you deserve depending on the amount of work you put in. He sent me off to UCLA with an A! Not only a teacher but a very cool person.

Had professor Pumar for Calc 1, liked the way he taught so I took him 262. IMO, you'll need to learn how to think differently. Amazing teacher, breaks hard topics down very well but it's up to you to practice it during homework time and come to office hours with questions for a better understanding. You will learn math, and have fun along the way.

The course is overall difficult however he would explain things clearly. He would crack jokes and honestly, I enjoyed taking his class. He would give various breaks during the lectures. I do not recommend taking it for the summer like I did unless you're willing to study, do homework, attend office hours and prepare yourself.

Professor Pumar is the GOAT. Attend his class, do not skip, and you will pass with an A easily. Take your notes, go to his office hours if needed. He is available for 4 days a week for more than 3 hours. Really nice professor, I love how he mix his lecture with some of his hilarious stories.

He is tough, but more than fair. Solid workload, but not insane. He truly cares about his students, holds daily office hours, and talks to you like a person. But I'm writing this because, when I fell apart for weeks after escaping an abusive relationship? He was there for me, and gave me the time & tools I needed to get back on my feet.

9/10. I'm taking off one point because he could be a bit more chill and make things a little easier. The class is hard—so are the homework and tests—but he gives you a lot of PDFs and explains the material really well. If you put in some effort, you'll be fine. One of the hardest yet most rewarding classes I've ever taken.

Great professor, gives ample practice, decent amount of homework but nothing extreme and it definitely helps with the understanding of the concepts. Professor Pumar is one of the best math instructors I have had in my life, he explains topics extremely well during his lecture, gives extra credit if you complete study guides for exams, drops your lowest test score with the score that you get on the final (if its higher ofc) and he has a great sense of humor.

I have never been exposed to Calc 1, and this amazing mentor showed us the ropes. We broke through each concept together. He provides notes to fill out, good practice in HW, and the tests are fair. (Nothing crazy, no trick questions, straight up- did you actually put in effort to study?) It is a very hard subject and this Professor teaches well.

Greatest math professor I've had makes learning enjoyable, explains concepts clearly, available for office hours 4 days a week, no insane amount of homework. Exams can be difficult, but just like the study guides he provides, your grade depends on what you put into the class. If you truly want to learn the material, I strongly recommend taking him.
