Very friendly and helpful.
What are you talking about!, I never had a worst professor like her in my life before. I had many mean Math teachers since high school, but this one crossed every limit. Very unclear.
She was very helpful for me. Learned a lot from her that was difficult for me at first. I really enjoyed being in her class.
horrible teacher! favors students n her teaching is hard to understand she makes u do a lot of work makes u feel like ur baq in HS dont take her!
she is a good instructor. she gives you chances to make extra points. here tests aren't hard. you have to attend and you have to do your work.
I thought she was a good teacher. She gave a lot of chances to earn extra points and her tests were easy. Of course, it's a lot of work... it's Calculus. I enjoyed her class; I must have been one of her "favorites".
Not a good teacher
If I say what I really think about her, it won't be posted. Enough Said
Worst math teacher at UHD,not friendly, not helpful, does not care, DON'T TAKE HER
She makes it harder than it really is. I took her class and got a D took it over again with anothER regular college algebra professor and made a easy B. She teaches algreba in a different way, with a different booK. All she talks about is "OKAY NAH" I do not recomend her to anyone.
Overall bad attitude towards her students which will kill all your enthusiasim. Doesn't try to adapt to your learning style. Gives almost all assignments the class before they're due. Consistently late to class. Sometimes unprepared. Will write her notes on the blackboard verbatium.
This professor will not help you in work, just tells you to go to the lab if you want help. I like math, but she made it no fun. She was always late and not prepared. She was lenient towards extra points, but it didnt matter your lucky to get a good grade in her class.
If you get to know her she is a good teacher. She is the type of teacher that will not help you unless you come to her. Her test are not hard they usually come straight out of the book. She moves kind of fast as the semester goes on so you have to keep up. You must also go to every class.
Just don't take her!!! She is the worst mathimatics teacher ever.
she and waller are competing for the worst prof at uhd , terrible
Tough, but inherently fair. Go to every class and take good notes. Read the book and study at a steady pace. You are going to earn your grade. Not recommended for poets.
Ms. Nakamura is very thorough in her teaching. However, many students who do not apply themselves find that she is difficult. If the student gives 50%, Ms. Nakamura will give 50%.
I haven't even finished this course and I'm having nightmares about this teacher. Very sarcastic in her comments to students. She don't respect the students. She is very long winded and stays on one subject too long. She also don't teach to the whole class it seems that when she's talking her attention is focused on a particular set of students lik
I agree with the person that posted before me. I honestly have bad dreams of her class. She's very anal, unhelpful, difficult, and rude. She has a very bad attitude. Everyone in class dislikes her teaching style and smart ass comments. She has no pity for future teacher, I know cause I heard her hint it today. Don't take her class or you'll be sorry.
I think those who complained that Ms. Nakamura is hard or questioned her clarity must be really DUMB. I breezed through her classes with no poroblem. Most, if not all, test questions come straight from lecture and she explains well also. (She can be very mean to those who are lazy, disrespectful, and/or whiners)
I don't know what planet the person before me came from but it wasn't Earth. I'm thinking this may be Ms. Nakamura. Because no one I know would compliment this monster. She has no business having contact with humans!!!!
I agree with the posting before me. Who ever wrote that response is a narrow minded freak from another planet. Nakamura is the worst professor I've ever had. I hate that woman so much I just want go postal on her. I've never had this much disgust for a professor before. She's the perfect example of a teacher I don't want to become. Don't take her.
she has a nice heart but sometimes you think she's favoring the smart students i normally dont write on this website but i for her because she is by far the hardest teacher i've had...be warned!!!
Dude she is always referring at herself. She is a hard teacher i made a B and i almost did not study. But she is not cool. The leaders she has for helping the students oihhhhhhh buy that sucks they do not do any good. Ms Nakamira comes from a weirdo planet.

SHe's not that bad...but don't take her...cuz..then you're just doomed
She's a great teacher! You'll learn alot if you just listen and do your work.
Dr. Nakamura is an excellent intructor. The class is hard as it should be afterall it is College Algebra which in combination with Plane Trigonometry are prerequisites for Calculus. You need to come to class prepared. Her lectures are straight forward and she knows her stuff and is very helpful.
She gives out taugh exams for a college algebra class. Don't take her if you are looking for an easy professor.
A demanding teacher. Study hard and do your homework. If I had study throughtout the semester I surely would have passed.
Yes, you have to work hard in this class and always do your work but that's when you know a class is well taught. Ms. Nakamura is an awesome instructor and yes, she's only nice if you work hard but that's how the real world is. Work hard. You eventually get what you reap. I finished this course 3 weeks into the semester..and I'm not naturally smart
Her class seemed to me more like an online course...she gives no lectures!! Everything is based on a software u r given n u basically learn from that!!
She also makes you feel like the only way to pass is working yourself out. And if you choose not to wear your brain out, especially if you have other classes to take; she makes you feel like it’s the end of you aiming at success. She's too stressful! She makes math so difficult to understand,&gives to much homeworks that always leads to incomplete.
I would not recommend her. I think you can learn a lot from a professor without feeling like your not smart just because you're not catching on quick enough for her. This is an education class and I don't think she is the example I want to display in my classroom.
Honestly, I liked Professor Nakamura. I just don't like the way she teaches. I was in her class every single day & I spent every free minute I had in the Math Lab. She is not always clear. She expects you to be a math genius. I gave this class my all and I still failed. I'm taking it with another professor currently and I'm making an A. Go figure.
I liked Ms. Nakamura but she was a very difficult professor. I tried so hard, attended all classes, attempted to do all the homework assignments(a ridiculously large amount) and still came out with a D. Nothing personal, but I WOULD NEVER TAKE HER AGAIN AND WOULD NOT RECOMMEND HER.
Very disorganized teacher. She is hard to understand and expects you to love math just as much or even more than she does.
I understand that every professor has its own way of teaching, but Ms. Nakamura's way of teaching is out of the norm. Her lectures are not clear for students to understand. I hope that she'll able to change the way she lectures in the future.
AVOID! Why does UHD have her teaching? They need to read her evaluations b/c this is not a good teacher! Does not help, does not teach right and doesn't curve even 1/4 of a point even if you do all the homework and always attend class.Avoid-Avoid-Avoid-Avoid. Worthless teacher!
Extremely difficult professor who is not willing to work w/ her students. If possible, take another professor who will teach. She is the worst! Agree w/previous ratings - do not take - run and avoid. Useless! This is not what college is about- no learning here as there is no teaching or cooperation.
DO NOT TAKE! NOT HELPFUL, HARD TO UNDERSTAND AND YOU WILL BE IN THE STUDY LABS ALL THE TIME! DOESN'T CURVE, DOESN'T HELP, NOT A GOOD PROFESSOR! LOOK AROUND-THERE ARE OTHERS, BUT IF YOU HAVE HER - DROP HER!
Very nice person but do not recommend her. Difficult to understand, her teaching methods lack although she is brilliant. Will not work with the students evenif you are struggling. Find someone else.
Whew! Let me say this, you need to have a lot of time to dedicate to homework if you take her. you don't need the txtbook but you do work out of my math lab and she does not curve at all! a 69.99999 is a d, bottom line, but she does allow you to use an index card on the test (tho they don't help AT ALL) i made a B but it was the hardest B ever!
Good teacher, very hard-nosed. She really wants you to learn material but you have to meet her halfway i.e. must try to do homework before she will help and must go to her office or stay after to get help. If she sees you trying she will help you, if you aren't she won't. She is very nice once you get to know her.
2 tests 1 final no curves +10 pts to test grade if you do the online hwk which really prepares you for the test. Don't have to go to class but she takes attendance. Quizes every so often that are easy if you do the hwk. Tells you to read but her lectures cover everything if not the hwk does. she truly cares about students so can always talk to her
SHE WILL NOT HELP YOU. THE EXTRA POINTS I DID ALL MY HOMEWORK AND I HAVE A'S FOR ALL OF IT AND I ONLY GOT 9 POINTS EXTRA.COULD NOT PASS WHAT I LEARN WAS FROM THE PROFESSORS AT THE MATH LAB IN 9 FLOOR NOT BECAUSE OF HER! DONT TAKE HER IF YOUARE NOSTRONG IN MATH.
Ok this professor does really want you to love math as much as she does. Homework is too much and useless. She can be nice but she does get her attitude on students once a while (She gave it to me just cuz I asked her when is the final). Does not help students at all. Man I dont recommend this professor at all! She puts so much info. on one test!
This professor will not go over what will be on quizzes or test. She will just tell you to go to the math lab. There is no middle ground with this professor. If a student shows their work on a quiz/test, and the answer is wrong, the professor will not give you credit for knowing the steps to arrive at the answer. The answer is automaticlly wrong.
THIS LADY IS OFF THE CHAIN!!!!! SHE DOESN'T HELP YOU LEARN ANYTHING. SHE TEACHES (IN ANOTHER LANGUAGE) AND THEN IF YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND SHE SENDS YOU TO THE MATH LAB. I HATED IT AND I FAILED EVEN THOUGH I WENT TO EVERY CLASS, DID ALL THE HOMEWORK AND TOOK ALL THE EXAMS. RUN....RUN FOR YOUR GRADE!!!!!....LOL
Man. I don't know who these people are that can't pass her class. She has lots of passion for her work. All you have to do is express interest! She will help you! What loser comes to school and wants the Prof to hand them a grade while they text during class. Did your mommy pack your lunch for you too!!!
This proffessor is mixed. Sometimes she helps and other times she does not. This is not a lecture class even though it is considered one. The class is easy if you do your work on time. For those who struggle with math it would be better to take a real lecture class.
She is tough, and she expects a lot from her students. But she lets you know that early on. She knows what she's talking about and if you want to learn take her class. You wll get what you earned from her, but she will help you if you need it. Took her in the spring and still remember some of what she said.
Even though this is not a regular lecture class I enjoyed being able to work on my assignments on my own and be able to move ahead when able. This course takes some self-discipline in order to achieve that 'A'.
I took a computer based class and really liked it. You have to have a lot of self-discipline and not procrastinate if you want to get an A. You have to do the homework online and get a 100 to be able to do the online quiz. After the online quiz you have to take a written quiz which is why attendance is mandatory. She provides help and tutoring.
best professor at uhd she is very helpful if u want to learn this is the class to take not easy but very helpful i have taken her for two semesters for math 1301 and 1305 she gives many examples, offers tutoring, extra credit on some occasions
she is terrible.her accent makes it wrose. her lecture does not follow the book or coursecompass homework AT ALL! she says if you do the homework you will pass the test NOT TRUE i got all 100's in the homework but her quizes and test are way off. ido not reccomend her if u struggl with math.
Ms. Nakamura is very nice and takes time to explain the material. she is very patient as well and gives the opportunity to earn extra points. If your lazy, don't do your homework, and don't show up for class you'll fail. Put a little effort in and you'll earn a good grade and actually learn the material.
This was a difficult course and i just don't think her method of teaching is helpful. For the final other Stat students received a detailed review from their professors and we just got a series of problems we should work out from the book.
This is one of the worst professors I have had. She won't help you at all. On course compass you miss a due date because you were busy with other things, she doesn't care and she will make you jump through hoops just to get the darn thing unlocked and she is mean about it. I do not recommend her at all.
Not good in math, DO NOT TAKE HER! English not clear At All! She talks too fast! You will not pass her class even if you do all the homework and get all 100's.
Pro. Nakamura is extremely tough. She does not give you slack whatsoever, but she is fair and if you work hard you may actually learn something. I had to work hard and study a lot but I made an A in her summer business calculus course. I would recommend her, but it will not be an easy A.
THIS PROF. WAS REALLY NICE ALTHOUGH SOMETIMES I COULD NOT UNDERSTAND HER SHE MADE SURE WE UNDERSTOOD THE COURSE AND THE LECTURES, HOMEWORK ETC. VERY WELL SHE WAS A REALLY SWEET WOMAN I DID HOWEVER FAIL THE COURSE BUT I TOOK IT AGAIN AND USED THE THINGS SHE TAUGHT ME TO MY ADVANTAGE.
stay away from her. she gets lots of mistakes while teaching and then students get confused. her english is not the best and it contributes to students getting confused. get ready to copy the 8000 words she writes on the board. dont ask questions because she will simply reply "Yeah" and then she moves on. Read 2 chapters for every class.
Mrs. Nakamura REALLY cares about the students that care. You come to class and your best you'll pass. She gave extra points on the test for the people that showed up to class. You care she care. You don't care how can you expect her to care??????
Basically if you don't keep up from the begining your basically trying to play catch Up. I work and have other classes full time student and full time job. It's all in MyMathLab and if your don't finish in time she makes it super diff to get the assigns reopened which slows you down even more. It's super stressful if you have other priorities.
I will be fair with her. She explains well, she gives you her expectations, and she will make you work for your grade. However, she does play favorite with the scholars academy kids. I really mean favorite, as in they can do no wrong and they are the example to follow. It gets annoying as the semester goes on.
She's a nice lady but her tests are tough. I took this as a hybrid and the material was just too difficult for me to get a decent grade. Her lectures are long and she moves fast. She has an accent that makes it a bit more difficult to understand her. She doesn't give test reviews but will answer questions before/after class. Wouldn't take again.
She' s in my math class as a sub. Her accent is so bad you cannot understand her. She works way to fast and if you cannot keep up she won't go back. She has a whole bunch of notes that you cannot comprehend on what she is trying to teach. Don't take her you will surely fail guaranteed!
Grading- Straight forward criteria. Doesn't curve. Lecture- Gives just enough information for course. Accent maybe problematic to some. Speed at leisure pace may be issue. Accessibility- Available outside class. Recommend talking to improve class. Attitude- Friendly, sometimes casual. Relatable Summary- Recommended though course may be slow
I PASSED THIS CLASS BUT I REALLY HAD TO WORK HARD FOR IT.
If you actually show up for her lectures it would be very difficult to fail this class. She does a good job explaining things and was very friendly.
one time i asked her simple questions and she would not answer them . DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR . VERY HARD TO COMPREHEND WHAT SHE IS EVEN SAYING . THREATENS STUDENT IN A FRIENDLY WAY AND KEEPS THEM UNDER CONSTANT PRESSURE .
She is very good at answering difficult questions. She is the hardest working professor and the only one who allows retest. I have an A so far
An amazing professor. Had her for the scholars academy freshman seminar class. She will teach you and you will have to learn. DO what she tells you. BE on time.
She is awesome! She goes sort of slow but gives you everything you need to know for the exams. Like any math course, you need to put in the time but she is a very thorough professor in teaching the students.
Lots of group projects and individual work. She's not a hard professor though. I don't understand why these reviews claim she has an accent; I was born and raised in Texas and she's really clear to me. Very well organized professor and very engaging even when online.
I took her for MATH 1301 Online . It was tough to understand her instructions because they are not clear. She will get mad if there isn't much participation during online lectures. During midterm week my mom was hospitalized and she did not try to help me. I had to take the test at the hospital. Also, told me to get better math and reading skills.
I hated her class so much. It was literally so boring. Her grading is SO STRICT. on math tests/exams if you type in the wrong number in the hundredths or thousands she will mark it wrong. She is not flexible at all. The website we use for tests crashed mid test for me and blamed me for the crash. She didnt let me retake it. Worst Professor ever
She is not the worst teacher but also not the best. What I didnt like about her was that she was very strict with the errors in your exam she takes the whole answer as wrong, in my opinion that's too much. Also, its very hard to undertand her, sometimes she gets mad because you ask something. In my opinion I would not taker her again to be honest.
She's huge on constructive criticism. She's not the kind of professor that forces you to participate but heavily encourages it. If you don't participate, you're pretty much setting yourself up for failure with her. She's also pretty nice and respectful to her students as long as you are as well.
Tests are too hard and complicated
Took every opportunity to make this class more difficult than it needed to be.
Horrible professor, class is an absolute mess and very unorganized, hard to understand and makes you do tons of work that is more than what actual classes require. Gives a bunch of work and does not let you know how to do them and instructions for them are hard to find if even available.
Avoid at all costs. One of the most disorienting and unnecessarily difficult courses I have taken. She is very cutthroat about assignments and is very boring.
Please take another professor. No need to make the lecture more difficult as it is. She wants responses to questions in a certain way. Tough grader. Had a friend who was taking the same course with a different professor and her course material was easier to understand than my course material. Won't explain everything in class that is on the test.
She's an extreme tough grader and will mark up your tests if she sees something she doesn't like. There were certain things on her exams that she did not cover in class which made it more difficult. I would not take this professor if you don't have enough self discipline to learn and study how she wants you too.
if you're taking discrete math, please look for another professor. you're basically on your own, when you ask her for help she will just tell you to look over your notes. it was not a difficult class, just a difficult to deal with professor. she reuses questions from the notes on exams
I would advise you to stay away from this professor. Her tests are too difficult and were not related to the HWs, but more related to lectures. Does not completely explain what exactly will be covered on the tests and does not give test reviews. She is also a really tough grader and answers have to be in her way or she will mark it wrong.
avoid this instructor. she only read the Powerpoint. The tests are very difficults and you need to do a lot of homeworks.
Great professor at UHD. I took her summer course for Linear Algebra. It was a lot of work, and homework took hours. The homework problems were more difficult than the exams, so those were a breeze. I will be taking her Analysis I course in the spring, and I can't wait!
avoid this instructor. she only read the powerpoint slides. the tests are very difficult.
She sets strict grading expectations and seems determined to ensure students fail if they don't meet them. Her approach is often harsh and discouraging. Rather than helping students understand the material, she focuses on enforcing compliance with her demands.
Took for Scholars Academy freshman seminar Fall 2024. Bad reviews on here are from lazy students. Put in a little bit of work and stay organized, and she will give you an A. Group research project mentored by Nakamura is focus of this class, potential to present at conference (very good for resume). She's very nice to those who put in effort.
Toughest grader ever if you get a question right but dont answer the way she wants she marks it wrong and you have to show work for everything even writing your name
