read-read-read - she gives quizes everyday over the matterial you are assigned to read. she grades pretty harsh on your essays. she has assistant teachers that do breakout sessions on thur. Get MS. SHELNUT for that-SHE'S GREAT!!

Hard class

One of the best professor's at the school in my opinion. Made me interested in things I normally wouldn't have been and instilled in me a want to write about things I normally would have shunted. She is my first and highest recommendation when taking any English course

Mrs.McFarland is a wonderful teacher, she is very enthusiastic about teaching, she is very hepful, and I love her to death. She makes English fun, but she is a hard grader, but ifyou seek help you will do fine. I have to warn you she is like the energizer bunny, who keeps going and going, because she loves to drink VAULT!!!!!!!!!!!

She's very sweet and personable. SHe likes to help her students. She is a harsh grader. IF you have trouble writing your essays make sure you do go to her office for help. Although sometimes that will not help you as much as you'd like.

i loved her! i tried to take her again the next semester but she was full. if you have a hard time analyzing, then shes not for you & she is a hard grader.

I think she's a really great teacher. She explains what she wants for her papers before hand. Need to be good with analyzing though.

Shes a very nice teacher and very helpful. Youll do 4 essays in the class, 1 of which is inclass and 1 that will be a research paper. Not a hard teacher but be prepared to analyze the texts. She will take you through examples on what good analyzis is. Shes not a strict grader, but dont BS your essays. I recommend her for students who arent lazy.

Tough grader, but really helpful as far as writing papers is concerned. Definitely pushes you to analyze a text. Attendance is also kinda strict, so make sure you make the effort to go to class. All in all, not a class to slack in, and you'll undoubtedly get back what you put into it.

McFarland is the best teacher to take hands down. She teaches you what you need to know for other English classes, and helps you one on one. Anyone who complains about her class just did not pay attention. She's my favorite professor at the school.

She is a great teacher willing to help just grades a little hard but she is great she lets u miss 3 days final is optional and u have to write 3 essays.. shes at the writing center and have office hours always willing to help great teacher she help me alot

She's a really good person. Enjoyed everything we read, but she grades very hard. And she's very religious so don't write a paper relating Jesus to a drug dealer... it was a good paper.

By far one of the best professors I have ever had. I didn't do well in 1101 but made all A's on my papers in her class. She is extremely helpful one on one and taught me so much about how to improve my writing. Super supportive and awesome professor!

She was super helpful with writing papers. I got a C on the first one, but I went to her office hours and she explained her expectations and I made an A on the next one. Some of the required texts suck, but she lets you pick your own topic for the 25% research paper.You might not get an A, but you will learn and improve writing skills

One of the most helpful professors when it comes to writing papers. She's always willing to sit down with you and talk about your papers and give you very helpful suggestions and feedback.

I had her for two classes, Practical Criticism and Grammar 4300. She was and is awesome! She helps you improve how you analyze texts and does not look down on anyone. I wish I could have her and the three other professors that I really enjoyed for the rest of my college experience. Prof. McFarland rocks!

Awesome Teacher!!! She is very helpful and you can go to her office at any time! She is also in the writing center as well! Although the class is hard, if you attend class and seek help you will be just fine!

I loved her as a professor! She keeps you interested in the texts, and is always willing to help with papers. She is a VERY tough grader when it comes to papers though. If you attend class regularly and meet with her for help (office or writing center), you should do just fine!

I love her so much!! This class was awesome. Everything we talked about in class connected to the papers we wrote. She helps you think critically and teaches you how to write a college-level paper. She is happy to help her students and will allow you to come to her office if you need it. I made an A in this class and I wish I could take her again.

She has a great personality. However, if you struggle with writing then I would not recommend her. I only struggled in her class because it was hard to please her. She is very passionate about her work. I wouldn't go to outside resources when writing her paper because it is hard to think like her. Go to HER for help.

McFarland was one of the best professors that I had. Her class was not easy at all whatsoever, but it did present me with a challenge which I liked. She is very willing to help you and is very flexible. If you struggle with analyzing I don't recommend her but I really liked her class. Never a boring day with her, she's really goofy and funny!!

Hands down best English teacher! This class was very insightful, texts were interesting & diverse! Lots of analyzing & depth! Participate in class discussion & voice your opinions, she likes that. Papers were challenging, but interesting topics to write about. She genuinely cares about her students and is inspiring! Wish I could take her again!

OMG! I don't think I have loved a teacher so much. She's witty, fun, and so clear on exactly what she wants for the assignment. I can honestly say that I get sad when this class is canceled because she's someone you just want to listen to. MUST TAKE!! This class will only benefit you for the future. Love love love!!!

She is THE best teacher I have ever had. She is sweet, funny, and entertaining. Her class made me think about my past opinions and look in depth into social norms. She is always willing to help you through the papers so you can get good grades as long as you talk with her. The analyzing can get tough but she will really open your horizons.

I loved her class. She very passionate and insightful about her job. I would take it again and I not even a big fan of English classes. I'm probably going to get a C but that was probably because I did not seek help knowing that I need it (my fault). She does offer her help so do go if you need it. Overall she is an awesome professor.

Go to her office hours (or visit her in the writing center) she will help you with your essays; participate in class as its class discussions and they give you ideas on what you want to write about; must read the texts or you will not do well on the essays but overall its not a hard class.

Professor McFarland is definitely an amazing professor. She gives such great, positive, and helpful feedback. My writing and critical thinking definitely improved because of her class, and she opens your mind about how and what you actually plan on teaching. It was a great preparation course for teaching, as well as strengthening your skills.

Awesome teacher that forces you to think outside of the box and find meaning in things that are normally overlooked. If you aren't able to think creatively then your'e going to have a tough time with the papers assigned.

Best professor I have had! Extremely easy going and caring, but also makes it a bit challenging. She is also very open to different opinions, as long as you can back it up. I wouldn't take any other professor but her!

Professor McFarland has been my favorite professor by far! She's easy to understand and takes time to talk with you about anything you need. I made an A in the class and made A's on all of her papers. Really an awesome professor that I would love to take again if I get the chance!

McFarland is amazing. He is so nice and so willing to help you. Hes a pretty easy grader so you dont ever have to worry about bad grades unless you just dont try. Would definitely take this class online if you can. The books are also so easy to read.

I was really worried about taking college level courses, but Professor McFarland explained everything really well. She was a tough grader, but gave credit for the assignment if you deserved it. Before class, she would lecture on what to look for in homework and go over it the following class. (Print out your homework before class).

Prof McFarland's course was not easy. However, if you put in the effort for the papers, you will pass. I knew nothing about writing college papers, but by the end of the semester, I was a better writer and student. She takes the time to help you in any way she can. Answers emails and is very understanding as long as you are transparent with her.

She is the BEST! She is passionate, helpful, and provides clear expectations. She is easy to reach and beyond willing to meet you outside of class to offer assistance. I was literally sad when class ended. I cant recommend enough!

She's an extremely tough grader, but her expectations are clear. If you write like an elementary schooler, you will be graded as such. Communication was difficult as it often takes 24+ hours for a solid response... Other than that, she's VERY understanding. You MUST read the textbook to make the grades.

I loved Professor McFarland! She is funny and really tries to engage with the class. She does ramble sometimes, but it is about the subject. If you follow the rubric on assignments then you will make easy As on the essays, because she does follow the rubric to the letter. But she made the class enjoyable and I would love to take her again!

I loved her!! She wasn't too harsh of a grader, just follows the rubric exactly. she was so so sweet and understanding when I was having a tough time with mental health. she also tries so hard to engage with students and make class enjoyable. she made me a better writer and i'm sad about class being over.

McFarland does ramble on a lot in class, but overall her class was enjoyable. She is difficult to reach but had office hours. Shes kind of a tough grader at first but towards the end of the class she gives you many opportunities to revise and get extra credit. Shes very caring for her students. Put forth effort and you will end this class with an A

She was amazing! I missed a few classes for personal reasons, but she was very kind and understanding. She was helpful when it came to giving good feedback on essays. We had assigned reading from a textbook, but she provided the PDFs of our needed chapters online. As long as you show up consistently, I think you'll like the class.
