Easy going attitude but can be condescending when answering questions he feels"we should know."Also underestimates the time we'll need to complete an exam, maybe because he's a TA for the PhD program at UCLA.Unrealistic expectations from an introChem10 class and the final was nothing like he said and much harder that the dept final.Exams are tough.

Condecending. He assumes you have a full understanding of subjects before he's explained them. Very difficult exams do not relate to what he tells you to study. If you don't understand something, he repeats the exact same thing, but louder. Like we're deaf.
very nice guy and a great professor
Very cool guy. Not easy, but I think he's one of the best teachers I've had. Very patient, and relatively clear, considering our class is not easy to explain things to. wish he taught Chem 11...
This guy's a chemist. Not a teacher. He needs to find a new job.
if you need this class as a ge or as something else that has nothing to do with your major then dont take him. however, if you wnat tobe a chemist by all means go for it! his exams are hard and have nothing to do with what he goes over in class, he wants you to "think outside the box"
awful
His classes are fast pace; he'll teach one concept, then move on to another concept, then another, but if you couldn't do the first you'll never learn the last. He raises his voice when asked questions, as if he's annoyed by the simple questions being asked. He doesn't take the time to explain a subject well before moving on...tough to learn from.

u cry babys instead of complaining u should be studying. If you really want to understand chemistry, take his class. Good teacher, seems intimidating, but very approachable, however, his tests r hard. Must Work hard to get good grades.
If you really want to learn, take his class. He may come off as a bit condescending at first, but once you get to know him, he's really a nice person. His exams are not easy, but if you attend every lecture and do your work, you should do fine.
HE is the worst teacher ever. RUDE, HARSH, DRY , SARCASTIC..... dont take him
this man hates teaching and hates students
WARNING: DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!!!!he's too hard and he's a**** talker...he talks bad about schools and only lieks UCLA. he should stick to being a chemist in the lab not outside of teh lab cause he cant teach. he's young and inexperienced when it comes to teaching. dont waste your time!
The best
his labs are fun and easy but the exams are sooooo hard. the practicals are okay, towards the end they get harder but its ok. but like i said his exams are crazy, he's crazy and rude. he's mean and doesnt explain things properly.
Thank God he is gone from SMC this semester 2006
Not as bad as everyone says. It's just a difficult subject. He is very understanding and nice. This is one of the best chemistry teachers I have ever come across. I would without a doubt recommend him to every student that is willing to do the work and wants to succed in science. He is approachable and willing to help you with assignments.
Prof Abbani was very committed to helping each student succed. The material is not easy, but if you do the work (homework assignments and labs), ask questions and show up to class you should pass. Prof Abbani's poor ratings by other students are not really warranted and these students were obviously not seriously committed to doing well.
This dude sucks. He may or may not be a good chemist, but as a teacher he is TERRIBLE. All he does is copy the textbook onto the whiteboard, and does not spend ANY time explaining. He has no office hours, does not respond to email, loves to use trick questions on exams, and does not curve. You are better off reading the book on your own. AVOID HIM.
HORRIBLE! DO NOT TAKE. CAN NOT TEACH AND IS VERY CONFUSING. MOST OF THE TIME, DID NOT KNOW THE ANSWER TO PROBLEMS. HE LOVES TO TRICK THE STUDENTS AND NOT TEACH THEM ANYTHING. HE DOES NOT WANT TO TEACH SO FINISHES BASICALLY ONE CHAPTER PER LECTURE DURING AN 18 WEEK SEMESTER. HE IS UNHELPFUL. BE PREPARED TO LEARN CHEM 11 ON YOUR OWN.
Prof. Abbani is a HORRIBLE teacher!!!! He does not know how to teach. His lectures are confusing and not helpful. His tests are extremely hard! Without the solution manuel, he wouldn't be able to teach! Basically, you are teaching Chem 11 to yourself because you don't get anything out of his lectures! DO NOT TAKE THIS PROF.! YOU WILL REGRET IT!!
great teacher, admits he doesn't like teaching but is helpful if you are willing to ask and learn the material
Prof Abbani was very committed to helping each student succed. The material is not easy, but if you do the work (homework assignments and labs), ask questions and show up to class you should pass. Prof Abbani's poor ratings by other students are not really warranted and these students were obviously not seriously committed to doing well.
I took his chem 11 class last fall semester and I got an A. He is great at teaching and is very nice. His exams are a little bit challenging, but if you attend class and do the homework you will get an A.
confusing
lots of maths.. n he do the example in txtbk in class.. not helpful.!!
Doesn't provide examples or illustrate concepts well. Expect to be learn most of the material on your own.
Abbani said it himself: he hates to teach. This is clear from day one. His class consisted of him reciting the textbook and copying it to the board (he made a lot of mistakes even at that). When someone asked a challenging question, he got angry and ignored it. I got an A, only because I ignored his lectures and studied on my own. Avoid him.
omg...this prof is soo bad..he hates teaching..makes students feel stupid and shuts them down wen they ask a general ques...very unapproachable!
He is an incredibly intelligent man. Chemistry is an incredibly difficult subject, but he makes it easier because he is friendly and always open to answering your quesitons. If you get through his class, then you'll be much more prepared for your following chemistry classes.
Even the simplest chem concepts he makes so complicated. Badly explains problems and is totaly confusing. Makes mistakes on exams, very sloppy. We had to correct him in order not to loose points. Hates to teach because he doesn't know how. You are never sure with this guy and what he will come up with on exams and quizies. Has no integrity.
Not clear in his lectures at all
Terrible. He even admitted that he hates to teach. Constantly makes mistakes, is very unapproachable, and if someone asks a question he can't answer he just dismisses them. Basically, he's a NON-teacher.
Worst professor I've taken at SMC. Totally incomprehensible. His powerpoint lectures are useless. Get ready to teach yourself chemistry. And I really mean it.
The most helpful teacher I've had. Urges you to ask questions. VERY ORGANIZED AND DETAILED with lectures. Expects alot because he gives alot of himself. If you do your part, you'll do well. If you want to learn, TAKE HIM! If you want an easy A take someone else.
Not the greatest teacher. His tests and lectures are very different from each other. His powerpoint presentations are not helpful when it comes to learning chemistry. His lectures are 99.9% powerpoint. He needs to remember his stuff, instead of relying on powerpoint presentations. I think he is also pretentious and condescending.
His lectures are not very helpful. He breezed through the powerpoint presentations, leaving most students struggling to catch up. I think most of us taught the material to ourselves using the textbook. His tests were fair, but be prepared. I think he is better suited for a research position instead of teaching.
Chemistry is a difficult subject, and Dr Abanni is very helpful and will answer all your questions. His tests are pretty hard, but definately doable. He prepares you very well for the departmental final.
He is not that bad,as everyone claim he is! Guys just do his homework, and do problem at the end of each chapter and you should be find I got an A in his class
Too hard and TOO EASY at the same time. If you are into Chemistry, then you'll just totally enjoy the things you learn in this class, although I must warn that the extensive amount of information can be very overwhelming. I've never spent so much time on any other class before. Any A will have to be hard earned.
Prof. Abbani is a very intelligent man, but he doesn't know how to share his knowledge with others. His teaching style is pretty bad but the class is definitely doable. Also, he is pretty lenient with points. If he sees that the majority of the class isn't doing well, he gives extra credit. I worked my butt off and got an A. He's a great guy too.
Professor Abbani is the Aladdin of your Arabian Chemistry dreams....
Prof Abbani's class is not as bad as I expected. After reading the reviews on here I was nervous, but it became clear that I could do well as long as I stayed on top of the readings. He will answer any question asked, even the ridiculous ones. He also gives extra credit at the end,and curves the class. P.S. review all the tests for the final 4 an A
Abbani is a good guy who comes off a little harsh early on, then mellows & lets you see his fun side. Tests quite conceptual, but MANY people earned A's. Must read the book! You will learn most of the material from your reading, not from class. I agree with reviewer that said review previous exams to do well on the final.
Twelve people out of 52 finished this course.....Twelve!! Smart, but a terrible teacher. Should be teaching biochem. I had this class ten years ago at UCLA and it was easier there.
goes totally from the book and does not even teach. He does examples straight from the book, tests from examples that he has never even gone over, he does not teach he just lectures and you are totally lost unlerss you the class just recently in high school. Would not recommend him for chem 10. It is like he is talking trekky?
Abbani is willing to help students who are struggling but doesn't waste the time of those who get the material. Save your $ and don't buy the textbook, just go to class. Lab is cake, and again he doesn't waste your time like other prof's. Ideal class for students with a day job. Curved Scantron tests. Easy homework, very manageable to get A, B's
he is fair I LOVE HIM
I have to say that I think he is the best chem teacher, I already had chem 10 and didnt pass but when I took Abbani I did....You have to study hard and do all the work but in the end it+s worth it...great teacher!!
He is great but you need to study!
I almost dropped this class three times. Professor Abani seems unapproachable. He's not. Don't fear him. Ask questions even if you think it's a stupid question. Show lots of interest. This man actually has a sense of humor. It takes a little energy to find it. He actually has a heart of gold. I will be taking his CHEM 11 class next fall.
I used to love chemistry yet he succeeded in making me hate it. His only interest is to test students on the things they don't know, on problems that are exponentially harder to the ones in the book. And while I understand that this, in normal circumstances, should help the student - it doesn't since the student doesn?t have the knowledge platform
professor Abbani is the most unapproachable professor ive ever had. His tests are impossible and doesnt work with the student to help them succeed AT ALL. he makes you feel dumb for asking a question. i taught ALL the information to myself and made this class my life. NOT an easy A. be happy if you get a C. avoid this class.
Dr. Abbani is a very good professor. Chemistry is hard to understand as it is but he breaks it down and will help you if you need it. His test are hard. Though his test are hard, at the very end, he gives you enough opportunities to earn points and it's alos curved so it's not so bad. Because his test are hard, the dept final is a piece of cake
Dr. Abbani comes off at first as being unapproachable, but he quickly loosens up. He's more than willing to help if you ask. His tests are very hard, but he gets you prepared to move on to higher chemistry classes. Lots of extra credit offered, but you still work very hard for your grade. I feel like I REALLY earned my A in this class.
Mr.Abbani goes totally from the book examples during lecture. He seems unapproachable at first, but he can answer questions during break or before the class. His tests are very hard looks like problems are from Jupiter and he doesn't have office hours. He lets class early every day which is not helpful because you do not learn for the test from his
Chemistry is a very difficult subject in and of itself. Abbani really seems to care about his students and tries to help them when needed. Labs and homework are easy. His tests are hard but doable as long as you study, but don't just memorize; you must have an OVERALL understanding in order to solve the questions. Not an easy A.
Horrible, does not know how to teach just reads off projector. Tests are very hard. Never replies to emails never and get ready to make time for the labs when it is convenient for him. Forget about your class schedule. You will need to attend when he wants to come to SMC.Good luck
Bad experience. He does not know how to teach just reads really fast off the projector. Never replies to email. Never gives your labs back. He tries to trick students and he is mean. Be ready to come to lab when it is convenient for him Has 2 sections on the same day for lab
Honestly, this teacher is amazing! clearly explains things and actually makes you enjoy Chemistry! He's not too hard because he explains things well and if you do your homework you'll be alright, highly recommend if you actually want to learn and understand chemistry favorite chem teacher thus far! you won't regret!
Professor does not explain information well at all. Stood on soap box for over an hour, twice, telling students his job is to teach problem solving and that it is achieved by "testing conceptually". Okay, but he does not teach conceptually. Abbani does amazing work in his research field, but his abilities there do not transfer to academics.
By far the best professor ever!! I hated chem before I met him. If you take him, give it some time before his teaching style sinks in...after a few class sessions, you'll be flying. He makes chem very enjoyable. He has a true passion for teaching. Wish I would've taken him for chem 11, I should have dropped my current class and taken him again.
I spent a lot of time studying outside of class, more than I did than for any other class this semester, in order to do well. His lectures aren't especially helpful since it's pretty much just him reading off powerpoint slides, exams are mildly difficult (you MUST understand the material for them!), although the homework is easy.
Abbani is definitely one of the better Chem teachers at SMC. Holds his students to a high standard. talk to him after class during office hours when you need to, do your homework, you should do fine. The material is challenging but he is fair. Good teacher.
Great teacher. Tough class in general. I liked that he was to the point. I learned a lot from his class. HW everyweek, 4 Tests and he drops the lowest. Final is cumulative.
Tests ranged from not too bad to way too hard. Lectures consist of going over the lecture pdf files you print out off ecompanion. I was always lost in the lectures. I felt he went too fast, and was not good at breaking things down into simple layman's terms. I learned at home on my own. Do as many extra HW probs as you can, & use the sol manual
Professor Abbani's lectures did not clearly convey the topics being taught. It was not easily understood how to work out problems. His average grade for the class was in the high 50s or low 60s.
If your the type who gets off on make-up tests, you better find another teacher. If your willing to work hard, show up to class and learn chemistry, go to Abbani! I struggled the first few tests, but I honestly didn't learn a thing in high school chemistry so I ended up with a B. I hated chem, but Abbani teaches so well. He is great.
Abbani is one of the worst chemistry teachers. He is too lazy to teach, and not organized. I got a B but I had my brother teach me the stuff and I attended other teacher's lectures. I think SMC without Abbani is a better place.
once I asked Abbani to write the answers of the problems on the board. And, he said that SMC doesn't pay him enough to do that. Horrible teacher, not recommended at all, unless u wanna get a C or fail the class.
Abbani is a cool person and has a funny dry sense of humor. He's not the best chemistry teacher but he improved as a teacher towards the end of the year. Although the class was getting 50's and 60's on tests, most people got B's in the end. Almost everyone passed. Your textbook has to be your best friend for this class, & watch youtube chem videos!
HORRIBLE PROFESSOR. he's lazy and couldn't care less for the students. He's clearly there for the paycheck. not interested in the students success whats so ever.
He is tough. However, he mirrors the chem department's orders. For some reason, they believe discouraging students motivates them. I would never teach like this. Ever. Chem is hard enough without these introverted bullies coordinating impossible exams, and taunting each failure. Especially in today's world, you'd think they'd have a heart. Nope.
He is extremely helpful. He breaks down things easily and is really patient! however the material is hard. He does his best to make it clear, but be prepared for some serious studying.
His test questions can be tricky but they make the final(which he doesn't write) seem soo easy. Lectures are clear and if you ask him questions he won't feel satisfied until you understand. He talked to my class a lot to see what he could do to make us do better. I recommend taking his class.
As long as you put forth REAL effort, you will be okay. He's very perceptive (he can tell if you're trying or not) and will push you, but that's the way it's supposed to be, right? It wasn't easy, but I'm so grateful I took his class.
Not as bad as ratings say but not great either. He seems inapproachable although he repeatedly says to ask if u have ?s. Tests r hard but reflect material covered in class. Labs r easy but dont help ur grade. Limited EC is offered. Dept. final isnt too bad compared to his tests. He communicates with class to see how he can make tests more fair.
Dr. Abbani is professional and charming. He uses PowerPoint and everything important has been explained thoroughly in the lecture notes. His course is helpful, not only on chemistry knowledge, but also on how to study. He likes to test how much you understand the knowledge so it's fun to face with somehow challenging exams. Study his notes!
He is a man. Straight to the point. Makes lectures fun when he is in the mood. Ignores dumb questions most of the time. He is a professor of choice if you already know chem and just need to get a grade in it.
Do NOT take him! I repeat, DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!
He is just too smart to relate introductory material to students who have no knowledge or education in Chemistry. If he was your instructor for third year, fourth year, or post grad Chemistry class, he would be amazing... Just not for Intro to Chem. He is a genius, but that makes it a bit difficult to follow him from time to time.
Prof. Abbani should not be teaching Intro to Chem. How are we supposed to succeed if he is not open to questions and does not simplify the material? His teaching style is too complex and he would be well suited for a more advanced chemistry level.
Abbani gets a bad rep with students who don't try hard enough. He is a great professor that truly wants his students to learn and understand, not just memorize to get by on the next exam. It takes work to get a good grade. Pay attention to HW due dates. Exams are not backbreaking, but require a lot of study time.
He is awesome. Just took him last semester Winter 2013. Even though it was quick semester he made it simple easy. No quizzes, surprise tests. All he counts is the home work and lab and 1 final. That's it. That's his new policy. He has completely changed. Taking Chem 12 with him this semester Spring 2014. Must try him
Don't take him if you can. He doesn't teach thoroughly but instead goes through power points and no solution to problems so you wont learn enough. He is also not approachable and quite temperamental.
This professor is simply horrible. Yes he is knowledgeable but the way he presents the material is very poor. He is very cocky and intentionally makes the material harder than it should be. His tests are not representative of the overall material he has presented. He is VERY UNAPPROACHABLE yet says he is happy to help. Avoid if possible.
Big Ego. Has something to prove. "65% of my test grade for basic understanding of material". Doesn't believe in reviews. Doesn't live up to his word. His lectures are cool but way too in depth for general chem. Tests are unnecessarily difficult. Average test score for class was a D. The only thing that prevents you from failing is Lab&HW.
Took him in spring 2015. He is really a tough grader. More than half of the class was gone after 1st midterm. Too much ego and makes tests unnecessary hard. He expects too much, even though its general chemistry. He tends to be very tricky in the exams. Grading? 3 midterms and final +lablabreports (which he grades them tough)
Professor is relatively good. Very knowledgeable, he does have an ego but is very accomodating to feedback from students. Will make you sound dumb if you ask a question but he will definitely make sure you understand afterwards. Tests are based on lecture slides, so there's not much need to read the book. Overall great teacher
extremely tough class. you need to devote at least 3+ hours everyday to studying and practicing problems. exams are very tough. Abbani is trying to challenge you and makes you go the extra mile. you will need office hours. i barley got a B, but guarantee i knowunderstand 10 x more then any other chem 11 student. if you want to learn take him.
Professor Abbani has a huge ego & is seems as though it makes him happy to see his students fail. His personality is very harsh & he is unapproachable. I don't know what he's been through in terms of academics, but it really seems like he has something to prove by making his class super difficult when it doesn't need to be that way. Stay away.
really needed this class and had to withdraw due to illness, but would have left sooner do to his lack of helpfulness. He is extremely insulting and makes you feel dumb if you ask a question. That is not teaching. And of course he is leaving the teaching profession to go into consulting. So, avoid his class if you really want to learn chemistry.
If you do not have a thick skin, you are going to have a hard time being in his class. He's an intense person, and he really does care about your success. Def. Don't be afraid to ask questions or of him. Because of his intensity though, I was able to stay awake and pay attention. Great story teller and wants to inspire you to learn.
If you care about your GPA don't take this guy. He will challenge you and his test will be difficult. A little too difficult if you ask me. I wish he would have been more approachable and dedicate more time to his office hours.
He only cares about your exam scores. Doesn't seem to care if you understand the material. I would recommend taking another professors section if you can.
I took him last Spring and completely regret it. Although knowledgeable about chemistry, he is unapproachable, rude, and unnecessarily difficult. He is an extremely tough grader and does not provide students with the tools they need to succeed.
Professor Abbani is by far one of the Hardest professors I've had. He is extremely knowledgeable in the subject as well. He can come off strong and offensive but its just his ego. He gives 4 exams, which are all out of 33pts (usually). If you pass his exams with a B or higher the ACS final will be a piece of cake.
He's one of the hardest professors I've had. he explains everything in detail, it's easy to miss important information if you get distracted. He is willing to go more in detail if your question is valid, not if you ask for something to be repeated. This class is very helpful if your goal is to learn the material. Chem 11 becomes almost too easy.
Dr. Abbani is an intimidating man that may seem unapproachable at times, but do not be afraid. He demands you understand the concepts, but if you show him that you are dedicated, he will go out of his way to help you. If you are not committed then don't bother enrolling in his class, but if you want a fulfilling challenge, this is the one for you.
A fair guy in terms of grading. Tells it like it is and despite some bad reviews on his character his heart is in the right place, you will learn off him. That said the content is massively advanced and shouldn't be an into class. My friend works as a chemist and was shocked at the level of difficulty. Do not take if you are not comfortable at math
6 week class. he said no quiz because its short term. You have to be very strong in math to be successful in his class(sig figs, finding mole). 4 tests and a final(all mc). tests test you if you actually understood. lenient in lab reports. just keep the units right. Easy if you already know the material.
I started off the semester loving Professor Abanni, however, as time continued, I started see the real side of him. His class is extremely hard. I only took one other chem class in high school. Abbani wants you to learn but he is very condescending. If you dont understand, he will call you out in front of the class. DO NOT RECCOMMEND.
When he "calls people out" in class, it is only when they are not prepared. Not a big issue if you come prepared to class, & If you keep things lighthearted, he will 100% turn the situation into a joke. Study, and you will pass...A 65% is a C in this section, so you can make it. No homework, just study! I got a B.
Prof Abbani is a real character. He kind of has this worldview that everything from bananas to your cellphone to deodorant is killing you. It's honestly really funny. As a teacher, he's a little on the hard side. He goes into more depth than a lot of other profs, but its definitely worth it if you need to know chemistry.
Abbani is a really great but difficult teacher. He teaches you more than you actually need to know for the course, but in the end, you come out grateful that he did. If you ask him for help, he will try his best to help you, even if sometimes he comes across as condescending. I honestly don't know how I got an A, but if I could, then you can too.
he's cool
chem 10 overall is a hard subject, he's not the easiest teacher on the block, but if you study and keep up with classes, go for tutoring when falling behind, its a very doable class. hes a very smart guy and really knows his stuff, so your not gonna have it easy with him, your gonna have to work for it and he teaches u more than just chem10.
If you are taking chemistry for the first time then you should take him! He definitely explains himself in a very articulate manner. Read the textbook or don't. Mainly study off lecture notes and the homework problems. He has a strong personality but he is a very nice genuine person and professor! Ask for help if you need! Really helped me learn.
He can be pretty intimidating at first, but he really cares that everyone in the class understands the material covered and will stop and go out of his way to make sure everyone gets it. His lectures are great and you can tell he cares about each one of his students. He just gets frustrated when people can't wrap their heads around a concept.
He makes the tests really difficult. He told us that it is because he tests on mastering and not comprehension. So basically, the tests were harder on purpose. Lots of homework, no leniency for late work. THIS CLASS WAS SO HARD!!
Class was way harder than expected maybe due to distance learning. Tests can be hard you need to study really hard and if you fall behind good luck catching up. Wouldn't take again! He is really easy to get a hold of and responds really fast, but the class is really tough for what the material is. If you want an easy A don't take this it's not easy
Best professor I've ever had. He pushes his students, which ultimately created a better, more hard-working student out of me. That is something, not any professor can do. If you love science, you will love this guy. Don't take his class if you want an easy A.
He is literally one of the worst Professors I have ever had, he is super unfair when it comes to grading. When it comes to exams or quiz's do not trust anything he says in what will be on the exam or quiz it will be most likely something you never covered or something you only discussed once. The class average is always 30% - 40%.
Professor Abbani is an amazing professor. He encourages you to ask questions whenever possible, and wants you to succeed in knowing chemistry rather than just getting the grade (or as he said, the grade comes with understanding the material, which is very true). The class itself is EXTREMELY difficult, so be prepared to work hard every day.
I think he forgets that students are learning this for the first time, and this is not a review class. He loves questions but can get frustrated if you don't understand the first time. His pre-recorded lectures were not very helpful, but the homework he assigned helped. The test average was always below 60% and he didn't curve. UTILIZE THE TUTORS.
Honestly, I really really like this guy. I think he's a remarkable person who really cares about his student's education. Devote yourself to this class, and you will better understand chemistry than any other student. He is challenging, his tests are probably 3-5x as hard as the department final exam. Show him you care and you will love this class
He's crazy smart and passionate about lecturing. Also he likes students who interrupt and ask tons of questions, so make sure to make the most of your class experience. A lot of the time he gets carried away on intellectual tangents and stuff which are kinda fascinating.. make sure to do all the work and study hard! tough class but worth it fs
I did take a summer class so it was much harder, but I liked Abbani. He was probably the first professor that showed that he cared for our learning, his lectures were also entertaining. I definitely feel like I learned a lot from the class even though I got a bad grade.
Some of the material can be tricky at times but the professor cares about students learning the material and wants them to succeed. This class is very fast-paced as a summer course but definitely manageable. Make sure to ask questions if you're confused about a certain topic.
Professor Abbani may seem harsh at first, but he genuinely wants to help his students succeed and learn. I really enjoyed his class and would definitely take another class of his in the future. He gets a bad rep but as long as you apply yourself and are willing to put in the work, a good grade is certainly possible to achieve.
The class requires a lot of reading and staying on top of the lectures. When it comes to the test, that book he mentions has no value. There are a lot of questions on his exams, and he says it himself his exams are hard and they are! Just not an easy Chem class.
If you are international student, don't even waste your money on his class. 70% of information he was telling was absolutely not related to the course of Chem 11. Spend too much time on answering unnecessary questions. Didn't give any homework or quizzes, so your grade is based only on your exams and labs.
Professor Abbani is challenging but cares about student learning. His lectures can be fast-paced, but attending and asking questions is key. Use resources like tutors and Unstuckstudy to stay on top of the material. Tough class but rewarding if you put in the effort.
DO NOT TAKE!! teaches class like his students already know chemistry, and when you ask questions he just reiterates what's on the board and doesn't expand. unless you can teach yourself don't take. You also have to do pre-lab assignments, summarize the lab, do lab, post-lab assignments, and buy a textbook to do other assignments on top of this.
I take his class in Summer. He pretends students to know topics that they haven't learn. He doesn't like to answer questions.
I took Professor abbani for my first semester at SMC. This course was very challenging and I studied more than I ever have before. The thing that I really love about his course though, is that he seems to really care about the success of his students. This is not an easy A but if you want to understand, take him. He also has many online resources.
