You do not really need the book. You can probably get away without it. Professor is really cool and laid back. You absolutely must show up to class and you will even be spared from taking the final if you show up. You mus do two presentations
Great professor. Attendance is not mandatory but highly recommended because he gives unannounced quizzes. He?s pretty good replying to E-mails and providing you the answers you need in a timely manner. There is no curve in the class but he gives you opportunities to earn extra credit.
Hands down, Mr A is one of the toughest YET most enriching professors I have ever had. His class is NOT a breeze, u will definitely have to work ur behind off for that A but it's well worth it! Learned more in his class than any other classes at CSUN. Highly recc, top notch, high quality prof. Not for lazy students only for those who want to learn.
His class is not an easy class at all. He doesn't curve grades or anything like that. There are way easier finance 303 classes than his.
Afandi is very passionate about finance. The class was tough, but you get 1 cheat sheet (full page front and back) for the midterm, and 2 for the final. The tests are very difficult. Do the hmwk, show up for the pop quizes, and read the chapters! HINT: Write out the examples from class on your cheat sheet - great for the exams. An A is possible.
I took him at CSUF and his class was very hard. The final was extremely difficult. My final grade was a 73.69 = C- so I have to retake the class. Do yourself a favor and think again before taking this instructor if you work full time.. No curve at all.
Very good teacher, who has ability to explane material very clear. It is not an easy class at all, but he cares about his students. He makes you understand the material, and if you come to class and pay attention you will be fine. There are 2 exams and multiple quizzes that are given in class, they help a lot for the exam. I recommend him.
Professor Afandi cares about one thing: That his students learn the material so they can use it in the field. He explains everything in detail and overall, is VERY fair but firm. Highly recommend this instructor to any dedicated student who is willing to work hard.
As a Finance major I am so glad I had taken him for my first Finance class. He is really helpful, lets you use a cheat sheet on exams which I ended up not using them because while I was doing them I learned so much. He is a great professor, if you have the opportunity to take a class with him do so.He cares about his students and class.TAKE TAKE!!
Very good professor, attendance is mandatory; I took the class over the summer. I learned a lot. You have to read the chapters, because you might have surprise quizzes. His grading is fair and he gives some free points. If you want to learn the subject I would recommend him.
He has pop up quizzes so you have to keep up w/ the class. Have to read the book front to back. He has PPTs he goes over in class and is very helpful at explaining everything. Tests are based on book and lectures, no surprises. Take him if you actually want to learn and don't just want an easy A because the class is def a lot of work and not easy.
Afandi, is one of the best professors so far I had at CSUN, he keeps you focused and engaged. The subject is hard, but I liked it. you will have suprise quizes,so you have to read the chupters he coverd. He dropes the lowest quiz and give extra points. Take his class if you want to learn the subject...
Professor Afandi has been by far the best professor I have taken at CSUN. This is the type of professors CSUN NEEDS.He really cares about his students' success. It's definitely a challenge but at the end you will feel great to know that you actually LEARNED FINANCE!!I got an A but it wasn't easy.
He was honestly one of the best professors I have ever had, if not THE best. If you are looking for an easy A, he is the wrong professor to take, however if want to actually understand non-easy financial concepts, he is the best! he is extremely intelligent and overall a great person/professor
HARDDD!!! BUT BENEFICIALL!!!!!
Very blunt. Don't get on his bad side and be respectful. Very strict and yells a lot. I found his teaching to be just ok but everyone is different. Gives easy pop quizzes, just keep up with the reading. Easy homework and decent quizzes that are identical to it. Tests are hard and he does curve them. He won't curve final grades to save a life lol.
Hands down the best professor at the business College maybe even the university. He's not an easy A but you want that. For Corporate Finance you need a professor like him. His lectures are amazing, he's blunt, hilarious at times, & makes you really inspired. You're going to work but you'll rewarded when you realize how much more you know about Fin.
Highly recommend taking him. He is a great professor. I signed up to take another class of his next semester. First day of class he tries to scare students about being late, but later in the semester you realize he really cares about his students. If you can take him.
Wow! This guy is hands down the best finance professor I have taken at Csun. You will learn from him. He truly cares about educating his students. If you want to learn take him. If you are looking for a easy grade, look elsewhere
He is the best professor at CSUN. He truly cares for his students, so he might seem tough at first but you learn a lot from him. He is not an easy grader, but he teaches beyond the course. Best professor ever!!
The class is very demanding but also very helpful for your future career. The teacher is also one of the best at CSUN, however, be aware that you only get one excused absence. If something unexpected happens and you become ill the syllabus is designed to punish you by taking 5% of you total grade for each absence even if you get a good grade.
He is very knowledgeable in any business field you imagine. So you can not escape anything. he is a harsh grader. however, use his feedback for next case and you will be fine. work on your writing since the last in class essay is 20% of your final grade. Good Luck
It's very demanding class and he is a harsh grader. Do well on your final exam and cases. Together it's more than 50% of your grade. The other portion is from quizzes, and work plan, and etc. You can ask for help only after the case is done because he doesn't give answers quickly. His background is diverse. Therefore his coaching is very detailed.
You will work very hard for good grade.
Best professor I have ever had. I took him a few semesters ago, for Advanced Financial Topics.
Like all the gateway courses, nearly your entire grade depends on your group work. Afandi is a tough grader, but very knowledgable. Go to class, go to his office hours, make an effort, do your part and you'll be fine.
GREAT professor if you really want to apply what you've learned to real life applications. He's extremely clear on how he wants his assignments to be submitted. This man does not take any BS. Off the bat, he comes off as extremely professional and will expect nothing less from his students. His grading curriculum.. NOT EASY. Learned the hard way.
Very hard grader. VERY hard. Very informative and very enthusiastic. Doesn't give out too many, if any, As.
he's probably the funniest, realest and most intelligent teachers iv ever taken. However he is an EXTREMELY tough grader. My group and I met at least 8-10 hours outside of class every week and couldn't get anything above a 79% on our assignments. Pray you end up with a good group, otherwise drop the class immediately.
I LOVED Afandi! At the beginning, he appears to be a devil sent from Gateway Hell but as you progress in the class, he turns out to be an amazing teacher! I look up to him and you really learn how to think and cooperate while in a group. Your grade really depends on the connections between the case and your previous materials.
You will have to work very hard to get a decent grade! If you have a terrible group good luck!
Afandi initially seemed like the worst person ever! However, he truly cares about his students. He chooses your groups, so beware. Attendance is mandatory and he will deduct 2% of your grade if you're absent more than twice and tardy more than three times. He's a tough grader but gives good feedback so you can improve. Be honest in team evaluations
Afandi is the hardest grader I have ever had in life. But he is truly caring and one of the best teachers I have ever had. He has so much knowledge and is super willing to help. Please take advantage of the office hours. I wish I would have earlier, but overall, he is a great professor, and be ready to work hard if you do not get a good group.
Professor Afandi is NOT at all an easy grader, he'll definitely make sure you're working hard enough for the grade you want in class. He seems way too intimidating on the first few days of the sem, but eventually as time goes by you'll know how much he cares for the students in class. He is funny. He knows his stuffs. So get ready to work hard!
Do not take this class if u want to pass this class! BTW, I'm a hardddddddddworker! And our group was the best!
Excellent professor. Very organized. He will not let you free ride. I am so glad I took him for gateway. You have to write three reports and make two presentations. He covers materials beyond the course that helped me pass the gateway lab. Lazy and non committed students should stay away. Your grade is based on you and how the team members rate you
At first, you'll think this guy is the biggest jerk ever; however, after a while you'll get to realize that 50% of the time its just an act. He expects nothing but absolute professionalism. Expect to be beyond challenged and frustrated- but in the end he is one of the best Gateway profs because he really looks out for his students.
Seems mean but he's a very nice guy when you talk to him one on one. Tells you what he expects from every assignment and tough grader. If this class wasn't only based on group work I would have done way better. Every assignment, except for 2 of them, are group assignments. Every Bus 302 class has group work so be prepared. I recommend him though.
Hardest grading teacher I have ever had! He really pushes you to work hard and earn your grade but you will learn so much from him. He seems harsh at first but he really helps you out in the end. GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS ( it will really give you a better understanding of what he expects) and follow his directions EXACT for the case analysis.
Let me just say, I have never had a professor like Afandi. You must work extremely hard to earn an A in this class, but you can do it! Fingers crossed you get assigned with a hard-working group, if not.. well you have your work cut out for you. Class consists of several cases, quizzes, and an ethics essay (at the end).
Very organized and focused professor. Tough grader. However, he is consistent and fair. The class has many projects. Attendance is required. Attend class and visit him during office hours. You will hard for your grade. However, you will learn a LOT.
Pay attention in class, take lots of notes. I would highly suggest you go to his office hours before assignments are due for guidance and to make sure you meet all the criteria. For the group work be honest on the evaluations, and don't let anyone free ride, because at the end of the day your grades are going to be affected by it.
This class like a prison and you must work very hard to pass. I don't recommend to take this class. Very stressful class ......... hard grader
Very organized. He does not curve. Most of your grade is based on your own efforts. Lots of quizzes and activities. Tough grader. You will work With a group of 5 other people on 4 cases.
Afandi is a great professor because he knows the material very well and is able to teach in a way that all the students understand the concepts really well. However, when it comes time for grading pickup your bags and run away, because this professor is probably the worst and toughest grader i have ever seen. he expects only professionalism.
Professor Afandi is the toughest person I have met at CSUN. He explains material perfectly and is very smart person but his grading system is too complicated. There are too many factors and there is always a way to decrease your grade. The only thing I want to say is to avoid taking him. Don't make my same mistake. He's gonna ruin your GPA.
I took his class in the summer, so the course was condensed material down to 6 weeks. Afandi is insanely tough early on, but he really lightens up as the course continues. He chooses your groups, and you work together complete 4 cases, one case right after the other for 4 straight weeks. Your teammates will sometimes get underneath your skin.
Professor Afandi might be better than any other BUS 302 professor when it comes to teaching, but BEWARE he does not do curves nor gives you any mercy on grades, so don't take him if your GPA is at risk or don't want your GPA to go down. Aside from that, be prepare to work with your assigned groups in cases and make sure you read them before class.
Professor Afandi is great compared to other BUS 302 professors, but you must be dedicated to work harder because this professor gives no mercy nor curves on grading. Be prepared to work in your assigned groups on cases and read them all before class lecture because he will pop quiz you on it. If you're GPA is at risk, don't consider of taking him.
I'm not even really sure that it's possible to receive an A in this class. He's a really tough grader. Every assignment is done with your group besides the quizzes and the ethical essay so pray that you get a smart and available one. He really makes sure you know your lower division courses though and he's extremely organized so the class is fast.
Worst professor ever, I am an A average student but I received a C in his class. Avoid him at all cost.
You will not find a better finance professor. I took his finance course at CSUF. This guy knows his tough. He demands your attention and he will get it. Extremely engaged throughout the whole lecture. Keeps you on your toes. I changed my major from Marketing to Finance. I fell in love in finance after I took his course.
Sweetheart, but comes across as harsh. If you show him you're willing to learn, he will do all he can to help. Just taking the course bc you have to? Take someone else. I saw many students like that fail. 4 group case studies, in-class quizzes using a "clicker" that costs $70, group exercises. A is possible.. He's very picky, so listen to ALL detai
AVOID! he creates your group of 7 without considering schedules and expects hours of weekly group meetings. Your group will get the same grade regardless if people don't contribute equally. He grades ridiculously tough without explaining or providing a sample of his expectations. You can't ask specific questions or question a grade. AVOID!
Every assignment has a rubric with clear grading criterias. All gateway classes require team meetings for every case. He requires each team member to complete a peer evaluation for every case, which he uses to grade you. You will not get the team grade if you do not participate in the prep of each case. Very fair. Learned a LOT from this course.
One of the best professors I've ever had. Although he might seem like a jerk at first, he is a great guy when you come to office hours. He really knows his stuff, and is always willing to help. Mostly group projects. This class isn't for slackers, he will call you out & takes peer reviews very seriously. Highly recommended and well-respected.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!! Avoid this professor at all costs. He grades way too hard and creates a hostile classroom environment. Save yourself the stress and dodge this professor. I rarely complain about professors but this guy is an exception. Please believe this rating. The highest grade in the class was a B- even after 10+ hours per week!
If you take Afandi, make sure your work is perfect. One subjective mistake will cost you greatly. As long as you try, it is possible to walk away with a solid C. Not sure I would take him again. Have to retake because I failed the course, oh well.
He is kinda nice but is just a bad teacher. I got marked down on a presentation for wearing the wrong shoes. You complete the first project and then two weeks later the next project is due and its even harder. Then dont feel relieved because two weeks later another project is due and is again even harder. Pointless and a waste of valuable time.
if you are willing to ruin your GPA take him! Overall Bus 302 is a difficult class, lots of group projects. if you take it with him get ready to work 24/7 and get very low grades. the class becomes more interesting when your teammates are not contributing anything and neither you, din or the professor will replace you or your teammates.
Professor Afandi is a really, really tough grader. Group projects can be agonizing if your group sucks- so be honest on the evaluations. Attendance is key and can tank your grades. Just make sure you read directions well because getting solid B's on all the cases is VERY possible. Afandi can come off as mean but he is a funny during class.
I would only recommend taking this professor if you don't lie your GPA, and want unfair grading. He seems nice in class but is a extremely hard grader, that doesn't really teach you the correct way for success (and this is for his own class). Save your GPA, and take a better professor.
Worse experience of my life. The only reason i took this teacher is because i needed 302 and he was the only one available. limits you to a 10 page case reports, that will doc you 20 pts per page over, but docs you points for for not explaining in full detail. simply put grades you as if your going after your masters and for summer treats it as reg
GUYS LISTEN TO ME! DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. He is probably the worst professor I've ever had. If you're someone who doesn't take school seriously then you will have a hard time in this class because he's a VERY STRICT GRADER. If you're someone who enjoys school, this will be ok for you but will most likely cause stress. DONT RECOMMEND.
Lot's of group projects. However, I really liked how organized this professor is. He explained every project and provided a rubric for every assignment. Follow the rubric and you will do fine. Hard grader but fair. He requires team evaluations on every group project. Therefore, you will not be able to free ride in his course. Would take him again.
He is very strict. I cry
Easy class, really-really tough professor. Extreme with his grading and expectations.
Apparently he is a good guy but it does not help you to pass the class. The rule of prison exist and you have to attention to him. No go outside for emergency, no any extra talk, no question when he talks... His pop quizzes are easy but you have to answer about five minutes by the device that he offers before. Hard grader but fair on presentation.
I won't recommend him to anyone at all he is so difficult professor the way he teaches is like the 70s he forces the student to keep the camera open for the whole semester even when I ask the admission we shouldn't be forced to open the camera but he will drop you if you don't open the camera btw you can' be absent at all because he will drop u
This man is very passive aggressive towards his students. His class is very, very difficult to receive an A in. He is the hardest grading professor I have ever had. Class average for our projects were low Bs. He is very critical so if you don't have a good group good luck. Makes you leave camera on and gets angry if you turn it off.
I fell really regret taking this professor's class very hard graded, and unrespectful for his students plus if you looking for an A you wouldn't receive it not even in your dreams. all the class complains about his way of treating students university like CSUN shouldn't have a professor like him honestly
Never take this professor he is the worst ever . Very hard grader and he is very mean to his students , if you dont want to hate your life and the school for the rest of your life just dont take his class go with anybody else ..
I learned finance from this guy. He uses excellent training platform. Three valuation projects and a midterm. Great class!
Prof. Afandi may be a good professor for another class, but he is a below average BUS 302 professor. He is very unclear with his grading criteria, barely teaches. and a strict grader for no reason. Expectations aren't given clearly. You're paired with 6 other group mates for 4 cases. The highest he gave on any of them for the whole class was an 84%.
Ugh this guy. He spent most class days just reading rubrics for assignments and hardly taught anything. He gives ridiculous feedback on assignments and flip-flops on criteria constantly. To all you straight A people, dont expect to get one because he marks you down for the littlest things. The highest grade he gave anyone was an 82%. Just avoid!
Dont expect to get an A in this class. Professor Afandi is a very knowledgeable man and I Learned a lot from him, but taking this class was very stressful. You must attend class and have camera on at all times. A lot of group projects which are time consuming and hes a very tough grader, he will mark down for minor things.
He is a very tough grader, does not really give good feedback wants you to figure out on your own. There are reports he assigns that utilizes econ, stats, Acct, and Blaw concepts. He has one case that he goes over, but will not help you on your case. Very nitpicky, has quizzes that are 50 points, final is ethical essay. Would not take again!
First of all he has an ego. Tough grader, doesnt help that well on the cases he provides, and expects you to know the cases well with min knowledge. He gives a PowerPoint that explains the cases so that was helpful at best. Pay attention, must attend zoom meetings with camera on, and be ready to be on top of your teammates. .
He doesnt really teach anything. The class is made up of group projects so u better hope u get a good group. I had a great group and we did everything he asked for the assignments and STILL got cs on assignments. Hes a very tough grader and doesnt really explain why he took of certain points. Please avoid him if you want an A.
This class is based entirely on group projects, so you better hope you have a good team. By far the HARDEST/ TIME CONSUMING class at CSUN, TOUGH grader too. Looks at the smallest things. Be ready to not have a life.
Bad character. In his mind, he is the gatekeeper of your success but fails to realize group projects have no real meaning other than unequally distributed work load. He will not inconvenience himself at all and is quite a selfish, money oriented (do the job and get paid) type of professor. If another class is available, go that route at all costs.
Expected you to add things to your work when it's not even on the rubric then gets mad when you ask him about it. Would not take again highly recommend you take another professor if available.
Excellent professor. The course assignments are the same for all classes. He provided extra coaching on each case and several extra credit opportunities. Almost 100 points were based on surveys and extra credit points. I do not know how could anyone fail his course. Lot's of group project. Hope you get a good group.
The only professor in the gateways courses who offered extra credit. You will learn a lot. Group work is a problem. Had a horrible group. Luckily, his syllabus is designed so that group work only account for half of your grade.
If you can try and avoid this prof, he's a hard grader and doesn't answer questions he makes you work for the answer. He take attendance right at 8am and if you come a few minutes after he marks you absent. A lot of group work and a limited time to get it done. He expects you to meet two times a week for two hours with your members.
I recommend avoiding taking Professor Afandi. He's rude and intolerable, and he doesn't help students that ask him for help. The primary assignments are Four Cases, and there's a final, in-class ethical Essay, which is heavily graded. You are required to be in a group of 5-7. Most assignments are group work. He chooses who to pick for the group.
Tough grader & good luck if you get a bad group. You could get perfect scores on all the assignments and still not get an A because of the heavy weight on group projects. He can be rude to curious students and will yell at you if you dont respond to him in the online lecture. Some days hes helpful, sometimes hes selfish and mean.
Afandi does a terrible job of teaching. Throws you into a random group in the first week of class and you are stuck with them for the whole semester. You have 4 case reports. The ave grade on them was at most 70%. I am sure many people failed the class. Avoid if possible, if you MUST take him it is possible to pass, just be aware its tons of work
If you don't already hate group work, this class will definitely change that. Whole semester was just him explaining stuff poorly, getting mad at clarifying questions and grading incredibly hard without regard to class confusion. I think he prides himself on this kind of power play but it's really just sad. Extremely rude and condescending. AVOID!!
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. I only took this class bc he was the only prof. left. I had a 4.0 GPA, thanks to him I have a 3.9. He is arrogant and thinks being a decent person or even teaching his own class is a "courtesy" to you. He is a harsh grader and belittles you for asking any kind of question. There are so many things wrong with him! Stay away!
You must work with your groups 24/7. After long hours working with your groups, you cant get a good grade. Hard grader and his lectures don't help to analysis cases . He makes business 302 harder and harder. CSUN DOES NOT have a good business professor, and all of them are the same. If you can avoid this guy at all costs.
Allows for solo work to affect the grade, extra credit, knowledgeable about zoom learning, SUPER strict grader, over brutal. Does not listen to students if they aren’t thinking like him. Success relies on group, but even with an amazing group he's just too harsh on grading. Not worth the risk, even with extra credit.
I don't know what he wants from his students. If you go to prison, it would be better participate in his course. He makes business major stressful. Hard grader and his lectures don't help to improve your grade. You must work with your inmates 24/7 ..... welcome to CSUN BUSINES PRISON!
Participating in this class is equal to give up your life. The guy is so rude when he cant answer a question students ask. His lectures are nothing to learn a new thing in business, and he blames students for every mistakes that he does. I don't recommend to take this class with this man and it was my big mistake I took.
Horrible personality and full of stress in his class. He pretends know about business major but he is not. I asked a question but he couldn't answer the right answer. He grades on papers very hard and his feedback is useless. I think MBA courses are much easier than this class, he and tries to make harder the course.
I have been @csun for 4 years and I have never felt the need to write a review for a professor Hands down the worst professor I have ever had He is robotic and has a terrible heart Annoying Stutter Cases have really vague written instructions and canvas page is a maze He will say the words "raise electronic hands" 50000 times per class STAY AWAY
Horrible class! He is very tough person for participation and working with the team. I don't respect him because he is very rude and impolite. You must work 24/7 just for ridiculous materials that you will never used in your entire business life. THE class is like a prison ....
Awful professor! If you make a mistake, you will be punished by his ridicules class rule. He does not know how to treat students and encourage them. Make sure before participation in his class go to restroom because you are not allowed to do.
PLEASE LISTEAN TO ME! Ignore all good comments about this guy. One of the worst business professors at CSUN. HE is talking about cases that you will never encounter entire your life. This class just wasting time and money . Avoid him at all cost.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROF at all costs. He is a HARSH grader the highest grade he gave was to our group a B. NO ONE got an A. AND please get ready to have no free time outside of doing work for the projects. If you care about school and classes then you need to be ready for this class to consume your entire existence...
He is not good overall because of his strict class regulations. I LEARNED nothing because his cases were so confusing and nobody understands it. I don't recommend take this course with this guy because later you would be regret. All good rating about this guy is wrong.
Do not take him, worst prof!!!!! He will ruin your GPA. Deducts points more than he gives, late 3x=10 points, absent = 20 points every time. He doesn't grade based of what he tells you to do, you can only get an A on an assignment if you go above and beyond what he tells you and he doesn't tell you what you need to do to get an A on an assignment.
A RIDICLUS class and materials that you have to study! His cases are not useful to use in business major and entire class is wasting time and stress. IF you come late in class, you would be punished by points. He does not encourage students and not giving good feedback. Prison is better than his class.
Remember his name Afandi! One of the worst Business professors at CSUN. The class is full of stress and disappointment when you are working on his cases. Participation is very important even if someone is in emergency there is no excuse. Please don't take Afandi class !
If you are a "A" student, skip him He never gives A. highest grade on all projects was 89.5. no one in the class received A He always asks more does not matter what you did. he always finds the reason to grade lower. 3 presentations, 3 reports and one ethical essay. gives you deduction for each absent (-20/0 if you don't have serious reason for it)
Warning! Please listen to me! The class has very strict rules to pass the course. If you want to learn about BUS302, THIS is not helpful. He is very rude and not explaining the cases completely. If someone has new idea, he wants to prove that his idea is better. You must spend your time 24/7 to pass the course.
We have done the final essay on May 12. Today is May 22 and still no grade. He is waiting for the last day maybe to grade us so no one can ask him for passing grade. His first words on the final was. 69.9 is D. Worst grader in my life.
Afandi is a terrible grader & is not lenient. He explains assignments in detail but grades as if you are expected to be the next BUS302 professor. Course is meaningless and intended to lower students' GPA's and this professor is here to uphold this agenda. End of semester essay with no opportunity to question the grade. Take a different professor.
I TOOK with this guy and it was my big mistake. His class has strict rules for BUS 302 and you must be on time coming to class. He deducts points for every thing during the class and no good feedback. The cases are so hard and confusing and your chance if you have a good team member. Don't take this course with this crazy guy.
Please don't risk to try this class with Afandi! He is rude if someone asks questions through his lectures. The first day of class he shows his bad behavior. There is couple of cases that you have to work with your group. It is very hard class and you have to prepare yourself for hard exams.
This Professor ruined my 4.0 GPA by giving me an A-. Compared to even a business honors class which grades so much easier compared to my Professor. I would have gotten an Easy A on other Professor! I highly suggest to stay away. If you want to get an easy A or your schedule dictates to take him. No.
Not reliable class to pass the course easily. His class rule is like a prison and I m not recommending to take this course. No free rider in this class but you have to work hard for nothing. Business is not based on a couples of ridiculous cases that he enforces student to learn. Business major at CSUN IS SUCKS.
He is a rude person and no good feedback. The course with this guy is so stressful because of his ridiculous expectations. I passed the class by my own knowledge that I had not based on his materials. Hard grader ! Avoid at all costs.
Took this class over summer. A lot of work to do in six weeks, but the professor is very helpful and seems to want everybody to succeed. Offered some extra credit and was very in depth when he taught the projects. Not an easy class by any means but he was a great professor.
He is not a good person for BUS 302. He talks about business in general not related to the course materials. If you are ready to work 24/7 without a good grade take his class. The professor is very rude if you ask a simple question and deos not like other ideas from students. It is wasting time and money. Avoid at all costs.
Do not take this professor he gets irritated very easily and will call you out call you out on the slightest things if you don't follow his class rules. This class is all about group projects and it all depends how your group does well in the class. If you do bad on presentations he does not discuss your grade with you which is really unfair.
If you are not ready to spend more than 24 hours OUTSIDE of class time with people he assigned you, you will fail this class: these were his exact words. He is very difficult to work with and does not let you leave the classroom, not even for the restroom. If you decide to take him, you will regret it.
Please avoid taking this class with this professor! He is always irritable and does not care for students' well-being. Back-to-back group projects (wants you to spend 15+ hrs). Expects perfection and grades brutally but gives vague feedback and doesn't want to answer questions about it. He prides himself on having a low success rate in his course.
He is pretty clear in what he requires, but can get mad pretty quick for the smallest things. He is a decent professor, just do the work on time and show up to class.
Don't listen to all of these reviews. This class does not really depend on the professor, it depends on what kind of group you're working with, so if you get a bad group, you're most likely screwed. Afandi is very straightforward and his lectures help a lot when working on the cases. He gives some extra credit and is hilarious too, just a bonus.
Although he is a tough professor, he is a great teacher. He is very strict so no phones or talking in class. All of his classes are lecture which can be boring at times. This course was very heavy and is mainly group work and presentations and will only be less stressful if you have a great team. He does provides great feedback to improve on cases.
Professor afandi is not great at all, he is rude and always believes everything he says is important. 4 cases to do, 3 reports and 1 presentation and an ethical essay at the end of the semester. He grades 50% from group work and 50% for individual work. Class is fair but expects to much and you feel like dropping out half way into the semester.
Ratings with the 5's are fake. A lot of students complain about this professor and have trouble passing his class. He gets irritated easily making it hard for students to truly enjoy the class. It's very unprofessional the way he talks to his students saying "look at me" in such a harsh tone, trying to intimidate you which is very uncomfortable.
Very clear lecturer. Explains group projects very well. One of the toughest graders I've ever met. Will find any reason to dock points. Refuses to give anyone an A. Very strict class rules on attendance, phone use, etc. Entire class involves group work so pray for a good group. Gracious extra credit offers tho. Good guy cause he actually teaches.
Professor Mohamed is a very very tough grader, if you mess up once and he docks point because of it you will not be able to recover them. The classes are very long for no reason, he sometimes go on long tangents about random things. Laptops are only available for use during half the class time, he becomes mean if things don't go his way.
Mr. Afandi's class attendance is mandatory. He takes roll before class starts and after the break and deducts 20 pts for each missing session. If you are ready to do lots of work during the semester take his class.Cell phones are not allowed at all times while class is in session and laptops are only allowed when he gives permission.
Awful professor. Speaks to students very disrespectfully. Grades very harshly and gives vague feedback. Does not support students whatsoever. Majority of grade based on group projects and very likely you will end up with a bad group. Avoid him at all costs. Take another professor.
The class is definitely difficult and entirely reliant on the random group you will get assigned, you're going to to work regardless but getting a bad group means you'll be very stressed, Many group presentations/essays and one final ethical essay which is quite easy and is a lot of points, definitely doable but get someone else if you can.
I shouldn't have taken him. He gives some extra credit opportunities, but is very strict, no devices allowed in class. If you're late, absent, or get up to use the restroom you get points deducted. He is very knowledgable and can be funny, but most of the time he was rude and condescending. I dreaded coming to class. For your sake, don't take him!
This is a real class with a real professor. He posts grades quickly before your next project is due. Therefore, you always knew where stood in the course and used his feedback for the next project. My other professors took forever to grade a multiple choice exams. He takes attendance and hold every person accountable for their own grade.
He is not easy professor at all and would be nightmare for everyone. Your points are deducted if you are late, sick or go to restroom. There is no difference between a class and prison. You must work 24/7 even after spending more time to get a good grade because it depends on your group. The tests and presentations are very stressful.
Class has many projects. He provided helpful hints to solve every case. Very strict professor. If you want someone to hold all your team member accountable for their grade, then he is your best choice. He makes you evaluate every team member on every project. You will not get away with anything in this class. Very professional business setting.
WARNING. Do not take this professor unless you are desperate!!!! He is beyond awful. Good luck getting a good grade in his class even if you try your absolute best. He is not respectful to students yet demands respect. The other bad reviews are on point. Listen to them.
Wish I took a different professor. He's a terrible grader. Has random mood swings depending on the day. The feedback he gives on the business reports are basically non existent. For some reason he only gives feedbacks on the presentations. If you go to his office hours he makes you feel worse by lecturing you in a condescending manner. Good luck!
He is a tough grader. However, he provides a great and lengthy feedback on both presentations and reports. He gives even more feedback on the reports. He very strict and will not give anyone a special treatment. Very fair and consistent. He takes attendance too. This is a real class with a real professor. Too many projects though.
Everyone dislikes BUS302; however, Professor Afandi is actually one of the better professors despite the ratings. He gives more resources than the other 302 Professors to students to be successful in the course. This class is group based, and you need to work hard to earn your grade. He is a tough grader, but in the end, it will be worth it.
Much of his explanations are hard to understand so you have to work extra hard to understand what to do. His feedback is often unclear and explanations don't really explain anything. Also, he provides the same amount of resources as any other professor, and sometimes even less for some explanations. However, he is very caring and tries his best.
Avoid professor if possible he is a tough trader and no give good feedback he literally copies and paste feedback he has prepared before If you decide to speak with him about his feedback he will not admit if he made an error He is disrespectful to his students yells at them as if they were kids I welcome challenging courses but I regret taking his
This professor is a tough grader and takes daily attendance. Previous students stated only 50% of their grade comes from group projects. I would say that's false. In such regard, I would say that group projects really revolve around your whole grade. Gunther and Abrams are professors that I have heard great things about. So choose wisely.
Professor Afandi grades very harshly and the whole class is group work only so make sure to contribute to them. Also, he requires you to evaluate your teammates and needs you to be honest in them. I would say that his class is time-consuming because you need to meet with your group every single week in order to get the project done.
He proves to be a superb instructor, especially for students who appreciate a well-defined framework and adhere to course policies. All the gateway classes have same requirements (five cases and two additional projects). 50% of the grade is allocated to group projects. students hoping to "free ride" will find it impossible.
No matter what prof you take for this course you are unlucky. Your group is EVERYTHING, but you cant pick. Pros: Gives more hints to help you than those provided in the standard university slides that every class uses. 50% of ur grade is individual work. Cons: Extremely tough grader and very strict.
Do not take him by any means. Does not teach anything, rather, hands out group projects and expects 6-7 students to teach each other while maintaining and extremely tough grading criteria. Has a mandatory attendance policy were you will be deducted almost an entire letter grade for missing class (even if you are sick). Seriously, avoid him.
So glad I took him. He treats everyone the same. He does require attendance. However, he will excuse up to three absences with valid reasons and allows you to be tardy three times without any penalties. He runs the class like a business meeting, will not let disruptive students impact the class, and requires you to rate your teammates on projects.
4 presentations, 4 quizzes, an essay for a final. Great professor but is super strict! Before the final I had a B+ so we'll see. Overall he is great at explaining the assignments. Lets you be absent 3 times before it hurts your grade, treats the class as business professionals so he will call you out if you are on your phone
Afandi uses an AI to try and form teams who make up for each others faults but it lacks crucial data like how dedicated students are. Deciding factor is how much time you and your team put into it meaning who you get paired with can make or break your grade no matter how much effort you put in yourself. Most of it is self-guided too so good luck.
So GLAD the course is over. Too many group projects. However, all gateway classes have the same projects. Professors do not have flexibility to change the requirements. I so GLAD I picked this professor. He is strict but fair. Does not allow anyone to free ride in the course. Only 50% of your grade is based on group projects instead the typical 90
He is a stern professor but he is very clear about what he wants. There are in-class presentations and papers. However, he essentially tells you exactly what he is looking for with coaching. He's a stickler when it comes to grading the written papers. Just make sure it has good grammar and accurate data. He's a good dude, no major complaints
The only professor who offers extra credit assignments in the Gateway course. Tough grader. However, gives lots of good feedback. The only gateway class that group work only weighted at 50%. No one can free ride in this class
He transformed this challenging class into an enjoyable learning experience. His teaching methods are clear, consistently emphasizing critical thinking in each lesson. I greatly benefited from his teachings, particularly the principles of muscle training, which I believe will benefit me for a lifetime to overcome difficulties.
He is by far one of the worst professors I have ever had. DON'T TAKE HIM. BUS 302 is already a hard class & he will make it worse. You do mostly group work and get graded on presentations/reports. The issue is he forces attendance to be mandatory and when he "grades" your assignments you get no feedback on anything to improve on and just gives "B"s
Tough grader, but fair. He tries very hard to help students understand the group projects. He demands participation and attendance. Will excuse you if you are sick or have something important. Very organized.
Gets angry easily, he expects students to already know everything. Grades super hard and expects everyone to show up all the time, doesn't allow students to use the bathroom without asking. He does not give good feedback after reports and presentations. His "coaching" slides and lectures do not help what's so ever.
Very structured. Expects you to attend, but will excuse few absences. He used class time for us to meet to solve cases which really helped reduce the need to meet outside class time. He allows people to attend late few times, but he will not allow you to abuse this policy. Gard grader, but fair. Treats everyone the same.
He is not a good professor at all. The class is full of stress and discourage students to learn. This class is completely wasting time and you learn nothing.
Best professor! Went through the cases and provided extra credit points.
Very specific grading for each case, but he makes it clear. Is always available during office hours to offer extra support. Attendance is fully required. Gives you class time to meet with your group for the projects.
He is very clear on everything he does so there are no surprises even down to the grading.
Attendance is mandatory, can't even be late, but he will excuse it a few times if you have a valid reason. Has a solid grade rubric. The groups are made up randomly. Overall he is not a bad person but not the best professor, sometimes expects you to know everything. Cases don't help with the lab exams at all, so would have to study for them alone.
I wouldn't recommend his class and would suggest you find another professor. Overly aggressive and rude demeanor. I understand being strict, but he was plain rude on several occasions (to the class). The only positive aspect of his grading system is that he makes it difficult for people to free ride in group work. Nice person outside of class.
Strict and organized. His syllabus make it impossible for anyone to free ride. This was important because almost the entire course is based on group projects. Gave extra credit opportunities. Extremely knowledgable and professional. Required attendance, but excused few absences. Take him if you do not want other group members to free ride.
Professor Afandi may come off as a harsh grader and teacher, but his lecture style is very clear; he is willing to explain concepts again if asked. He encourages students to visit his office hours and is a very caring person. I learned so much in his class and don't regret taking it.
He is not good guy at all. His expectations is too much, and he creates stress in the class. No helpful notes or explanations to help students to pass the class. I passed the class based on my knowledge not his .. .. Don't take this class with Afandi because later you will be regret.
Very organized and fair instructor. He used rubrics for all the projects, which helped me and my group solve the cases. Tough grader. Wish for a good group. The course was full of projects. He gave easy extra credit assignments. So glad I took his class.
Tough grader, but fair. Hope for a good group. He takes attendance and does not allow for any free riding. Organized. Has rubric for all assignments. Lots of cases in this class.
This course has several projects. Hope for a good group. The group projects were worth 50% of the grade. This is low when compared to other professors. The other 50% were based only on individual assignments. He required an evaluation on every teammate for every project. He also gave many extra credit assignments. Very organized.
He always made sure to help us during and outside class. He provided clear rubrics for all projects and ran the course like a business meeting, sticking to the syllabus and being fair to everyone.
Not the professor you want if you really want to learn. Professor doesn't allow students to talk to each other. No questions to classmates. Very outdated methodology of teaching, phones and iPads are not allowed. Individualistic form of teaching. Students need to be able to talk and network among each other not be robots trying to learn in silence
An excellent professor who maintains high standards. He is very strict. He ensured that disruptive students do not disrupt the class by talking to each other during lectures. He consistently offered valuable feedback and was always well-prepared for every class. Class had so many projects. Hope for a good group.
Tough professor, but very organized. Lots of group projects, but he has a clear grading system. Attendance is mandatory - no free rides allowed. Leveraged unstuckstudy and ChatGPT for efficient prep.
Do not waste your time taking his class if you plan on not attending or interrupting class by showing up late or leaving the class during the lectures. He allows students to show up late few times and miss class for emergencies. Extremely knowledgable and organized. Lot's of labs, many quizzes, 2 exams, and one group project.
Attendance is mandatory. Will call out students for goofing off or talking with others, and ask students to silence their phones. Deduct points if you use your phone and will ask to meet with him after class. This is a very serious professor, he is not here to befriend anyone, so do what you are told to do.
The course has so many labs that are very helpful. I used what I learned in his class in my own business. 2 exams, chapter quizzes, and one group project. Great course.
He is a no-nonsense, clear communicator who ensures students know what's expected. His detailed syllabus outlined assignments, deadlines, and grading criteria, leaving no room for confusion. Very organized and fair. Many lab assignments, few quizzes, two exams, and one group project. Assigned developmental assignments that were easy and worth 5%.
The best way I can describe Professor Afandi is firm but fair. He may come off as abrasive, but he is actually very kind and he cares about his students' success. The bottom line is that BUS302 is a difficult class regardless of the professor. However, if you do the bare minimum (showing up to class, turning in assignments, etc.), you WILL pass.
My only issue with this professor is that he hasn't explained the group project properly. And it is the most important thing about this class
I learned more about excel than my finance course. This professor means business. Very tough grader, but very fair too. He treats everyone the same. Dropped two quizzes and several homework assignments for everyone. he assigns one project with clear step by step instructions right on the course website (10 steps). No one was able to fee ride.
Professor really knows his stuff—super smart and fair. He drops some low quiz/homework scores and gives extra credit. You need to show up on time, but you can miss 3 classes if you have a legit excuse. Don't be late too often or leave during class—he takes off points. No favorites. Learned more here than any class at CSUN. Not easy, but worth it.
Loved his class. He's strict but fair, very knowledgeable, and treats everyone the same. No one was able to free ride, and the dropped quizzes and labs applied equally to all.
I kid you not when I screamed with joy when I found out I passed the final exam for Afandi's BUS312 class. He goes over things extremely well in class and is open to any questions, however it felt as though he was yelling at our class all the time. The group project was a joke as his instructions are extremely vague. Hope you get a good group.
Extremely knowledgeable instructor—I became proficient in Excel and Tableau. He is transparent and shared class averages during the semester, consistently above 80%. He assigns one project with nearly 8 weeks to complete and step-by-step guidance. Take him to master Excel/Tableau; avoid if you cannot attend regularly or be on time (deducts points).
This class is a mandatory attendance before he deduct points (hurts your grade). He does have nonsense rules which also cause deduction points so check his syllabus.Exams & Quizzes are easy if you study and practice on the smartbooks. He drops the lowest 2 for the labs and quizzes.
