Peace Be Upon Him. Drops lowest exam, 3 lowest quizzes, 3 lowest labs, and some lowest HWs. All of this AND a curve. The course is pretty difficult but if you put in effort, he will give you a passing grade.

Dr. Almekkawy is a fairly good professor. He provides advice on how to succeed in this course, as well as in your future career/studies. The lab assignments are easy if you work to learn Verilog. He drops a lot of the grades, but I did not see the effect of the additional curve at all. His quizzes could have been more spread out over the semester.

Professor Almekkawy is a great professor. He provides excellent lectures and I learnt a lot about Computer Vision techniques in this course. One can get a good grade if sincere efforts are made by attending all lectures and solving all homework problems diligently. Projects are very interesting. I definitely recommend this class to everyone.

Professor Mohamed Almekkawy is one of the best professors in the computer engineering department. His lecture is pretty detailed. Even if the topic is hard, you will study a lot if you pay close attention. I super enjoy his computer vision class. It's pretty useful.

One of the best professor in the CSE department. CMPEN 331 is a hard course, but there will be a huge curve at the end. So just take this course seriously, go to the lectures and prepare for the exam and you will be fine.

The course content is difficult but the professor definitely cares about his students doing well. Lectures are very good. Start the labs ahead of time to use office hours. There is also a generous curve at the end of the semester so don't feel discouraged if you do poorly on a quiz or exam.

Sometimes the grading can be harsh and the material is confusing but Almekkawy understands. He drops many exams, quizzes, and labs and pushes back deadlines when necessary. His lectures are good but the textbook is even better in my opinion. The exams are generally much harder than the practice exams but he provides a great variety in examples.

For those that are currently enrolled in CMPEN 331 this semester, please do the SRTEs ASAP! Need to do them by Sunday 4/30 11:59pm. If 90% of CMPEN 331 students complete them, he will drop lowest exam, lowest 3 hws, lowest 3 quizzes, and lowest 2 quizzes. A lot of people really need the grade bump and doing the SRTEs would be very helpful to them.

Extremely qualified to teach. Cares greatly about his students. Labs, tests, quizzes were fair. Drops stuff to make the grading fairer. You will learn a lot if you keep up to date on lectures and go to office hours when you are stuck. He is good at explaining tough concepts. The only negative is that the lab instructions can be hard to understand.

He gives very hard quizzes and exams that the averages were so low, but he understands and drops the lowest 3 quizzes and lowest exam to save people's grades. Labs start to get harder during the 2nd half of the semester, and the project builds up on those labs. Also gives a curve such that the minimum for a passing C is around a 55, but A is 89.

Prof Almekkawy is awesome. Ensures you learn through a rigorous course, but then makes sure your grade does not suffer unfairly bc the difficulty of the course. He is a very likable person, who does a good job overall with the class.

Never went to a single class through the semester, only showed up to quizzes (which are announced a couple weeks before). Truthfully, I had no business passing. Scoring 30s across every exam he handed out, skipping over half the quizzes. My only saving grace was the labs which I only did because they were fun and is a good resume builder.

Professor Almekkawy will throw a lot of content at you and the labs, exams, and quizzes will be pretty difficult. However, I feel like this forced me to learn a lot and develop a strong understanding of the course material. He drops a lot of your lowest grades at the end of the semester so if you put in effort you'll finish with a good grade.

even if you put limited amount of work you'll still get a decent grade; he drops one exam (usually the 2nd since it's the hardest) but doesn't tell you until the end of the course.

I'm not a CMPENG student, but this was still one of my favorite courses I had to take. Professor Almekkay puts great effort into keeping his lectures engaging / interesting and is really looking for his students to succeed, so the grading is fairly forgiving. The labs and exams are challenging, but by no means unreasonable.

Even if you mess up the exams, submit labs late, or miss quizzes, you can easily pass.

The lab is my favorite part of this course, he drop many stuff at the end of the semester, so you won't fail on this class. But the really annoying things are that midterm 3 grade and final grade scale are determined in final week.

Quizzes were pretty brutal and I didn't pass most of them, you just have to do the labs, try to be about average on exams, and the curve should take care of you. The professor genuinely wants everyone to succeed and pass so just do the work and he'll make sure you pass. "You have to try to fail this class", in his words.

Weekly quizzes and exams are based on lectures/book readings and are very difficult. I felt like I failed almost every one. There are labs and reading assingments where you can make up points. Try to hit slightly above averatge for each assignment and you will get a decent grade. He drops 3/8 quizzes, 2/5 labs, etc. Final project is easy too.

He makes sure you understand, and answers questions in class. He uses analogies, which helps. Quizzes&exams are hard, but you just need to study slides&practice qs. For labs, he has tutorial videos that you can just follow. Grading isn't too harsh, and you get quiz, exam, homework and lab drops on top of a curve so there's no reason you don't pass.

Professor Almekkawy genuinely cares about his students and wants them to succeed. He explains difficult concepts well, drops the lowest grades, and even pushes the deadlines when needed. Although the labs are difficult at first, once you get a good grasp of Verilog, they get much easier. Overall, Professor Almekkawy does a great job with the class.

I had him in Spring 2025. nice guy, dropped 4quiz, 2lab and 1mid in the end, and the avg grade for an A was around 90. However, he was normally 30 minutes late for classes, and probably not showing up on Thurdays when we had quizzes. And the exams and quizzes were really hard. Labs were also hard. I got an A and had no idea what I learnt. Good luck

Mohamed Almekkawy is one of the best professor I have ever met. His lecture is very clear and informative. He always explains those tricky concepts more than one time to make sure you really understand it. Meanwhile, he also gives good advices in career and life.

Good professor. Weekly quizzes so you are kind of forced to keep up with the material which is kind of a good thing. Quizzes and exams are most of the grade. Video lectures weekly. Important class.

CMPEN 331 is a challenging, work-intensive course, but Prof. Almekkawy teaches it in a clear and structured way. He explains complex architecture concepts well, is approachable, and values consistent effort. The workload is heavy, but he applies a very good curve at the end citing the students' efforts, making the course fair and rewarding.

Professor Almekkawy explains the material clearly and keeps the lectures well organized. He is approachable and helpful when students have questions, and overall the course was a positive learning experience.

The only thing that helped me on the tests and quizzes was reading his slides; I had no idea what I had learned in class SP25. Since quizzes were far more difficult than exams, I honestly had no idea what to do. You can achieve an A if you simply place in the top 10% of the class; it's not impossible if you work hard.
