Dr. Aly is a professor who would like to see everyone pass. He would actually review all of the lecture notes at the end of every class and 50% of those reviews would appear on the test exactly as he discussed them. If you go to class and do the assignments you will pass easily.

Professor Aly is amazing! He makes this class very understandable. I enjoyed most of the topics and learned a lot from the class although I am a non-major student. Dr. Aly is very respectful and very fair in grading and treating students. He is very knowledgeable and his class materials are very well developed and organized. Highly recommended.

I learned from Dr. Aly about geoinformatics and geohazards much more than I learned from all my other classes. Very smart, very knowledgeable, and awesome professor. His take-home exams were tough and a bit long but I even learned from his exams. Dr. Aly cares a lot about his students. I wish we could have more faculty like him in the department.

If you want to learn fundamentals of geology, take this class with Dr. Aly. He knows what he is teaching. Very thorough and fair in grading. He is always busy so be very specific when you talk to him and be brief and specific when you email him. Follow his instructions and you will get the grade you deserve. Awesome professor!

Geology isn't an easy subject but Dr. Aly makes this class very understandable to non majors. I took this class in 2013 with another instructor and failed - she was terrible. Attend Dr. Aly's lectures, take notes, do assignments on time, and you can get an A. The concern is that he teaches this class only in fall semesters, so you may have to wait.

Very fair professor in treating (malefemalemajornon-major) students and grading exams and assignments. Just follow Dr. Aly's instructions "How To Do Well In General Geology" and you will get an A easily. He explains everything you need to learn in class and posts all materials on Blackboard. He is always busy but really a very nice person.

My favorite professor at UARK! I always worry about my grade in classes of big enrollments, but this was not the case in Professor Aly's class. He is very fair and impartial. Every student gets the grade that she deserves. Moreover, Dr. Aly is a great scientist. I never expected that geology is so important and I learned a lot in this class.

GEOL1113-001 is now GEOS1113-001. I just learned that from a friend who was waiting since last fall to take this class with Dr. Aly. I took General Geology earlier with a grad student and failed to pass, but she was really awful and I slept in her class more than I slept in my bed! Dr. Aly makes this class understandable especially to non-majors.

This is the best science class you take at UofA. Professor Aly is such a great person and instructor. Really awesome professor. Most of the topics are interesting. I worried about my performance in the beginning probably because of the big number (+200) of students, but everything went well. Dr. Aly did a great job in making the course content understandable. GIS Analysis and Modeling is the best GIS class on campus. At the beginning of the semester, I wasn't sure that I will learn something new in this class because I have taken all GIS classes available at UofA. I disagree with the one mentioned that Prof Aly just stands there and reads the slides. This by far is the best class I have taken at UA so far. I suggest that Dr. Aly writes his own textbook because his lectures and course materials are much better than the class textbook. This class is excellent for good students. Average students still can manage to do well, below-average students will never do well in any science class.

My sister took this class with Dr. Aly and I'm taking it now based on her recommendation. It is a very big class (200+ students) and that is the only thing I don't like. We are a group of 14 friends taking this class and expecting As and Bs. You get the grade you deserve in this class. I'm doing my PhD in Geosciences and Dr. Aly is one of our beloved faculty. He isn't actually teaching GEOS5011 (Colloquium). He just gave the first lecture in the seminar series this fall and that was the best and most interesting lecture I ever attended. I'm proud that we've Dr. Aly here in the department.

This prof is very thorough and it is impossible that you can trick him or cheat in his class although it is too big. He knows all the tricks! Good things mentioned in here about this prof are true. Unfair reviews are most likely from failures who don't want to blame themselves. Some students were really so stupid and deserved the Fs they received.

My BUT review: This professor has very firm class policies BUT he is hilarious, the class is a bit tough to non-majors BUT it is still interesting and doable, everything in this class is done electronically BUT that isn't a problem. I recommend this class BUT be aware the lab is separate and is thought by the TA.

I took this class because of the good reviews on this site and decided to get back and give my fair review. Professor Aly is awesome and his class is amazing, however you won't excel in this class unless you study hard. This how science classes are. This class opened my eyes on our fascinating planet earth. The textbook has lots of unnecessary details but Dr. Aly provides his lecture notes on BB, which are focused on what you need to learn. Very helpful and very well organized.

I'm from the Honors College and recommend this class. Lectures are amazing, Dr. Aly's notes are excellent, the online homework is very good, the eTextbook is good, the TA is (not really needed). This class has a wide variety of students (200+) from different disciplines. It's magic that Dr. Aly can teach all these students in one classroom.

Prof Aly is the best instructor I ever had. The class demand is very reasonable. Attendance is necessary but helps a lot in absorbing the science details. Homework assignments are not difficult (open time and open book). Exams are directly from lecture notes, homework assignments, and review sessions. The comprehensive final exam is optional!

I hate big classes but geology was an exception. I enjoyed listening to the lectures and never missed a class during the whole semester. Take general geology and the geology lab in fall. It'll be much easier to take both in the same semester. Dr. Aly doesn't teach labs at all and teaches his general geology only in falls. I took both classes in my first semester and did well.

I've taken most of the GIS classes available on campus and can tell Dr. Aly's class is the best. Dr. Aly is one of my few favorite professors at UA. He's sooo smart and very very knowledgeable. I recommend GIS analysis and modeling to grad students. It could be a bit difficult for undergrads.

UAF is leading higher education in Arkansas and Professor Aly is a leading hero of geospatial technology at UAF. His GIS analysis and modeling class fully changed the way I think about my graduate research and future career.

Dr. Aly knows that most students in General Geology are non-majors, and he treats the class as such. Tests are almost straight from the review questions and Mastering Geology questions, and we were given an opportunity for 60 bonus points throughout the semester. He wants his students to do well.

Professor Aly was great. His lectures were extremely boring, but the homework assignments were an easy A. He gave an extra credit assignment after every exam that could potentially get you up to 20 points. You have to show up to class the get the extra credit password. The exams were just like the homework and the review questions given in class.

Dr. Aly is a hero! He did a wonderful job in making geology understandable to non-major students. I enjoyed the class and learned a lot about earth science. The only thing I hated in this class (and in every intro class) was idiots who didn't study and still were expecting As in the class!

You DO NOT need to attend this class. Study homework / review questions for test and you will make 80 minimum. There are 20 points of extra credit offered after each test. Dont miss a homework and study quizlet sets for test and this is the easiest A youll get all of college. Dr. Aly makes it easy for non-major students to succeed in science.

This class is delivered remotely this fall which makes the lab a bit difficult, but the lab is actually a separate class and is not taught by Dr. Aly. This is a great class if you can take it online and Dr. Aly never leaves the Zoom sessions without answering all the questions in the chat room.

He specifically states that the course is designed for non-majors to easily understand. 80% of the exams come from review questions he gives us and homework questions. He is very knowledgable about the subject and always asks if we have any questions at the end of class. Definitely an easy A.

Hands down one of the easiest classes and professors I have ever taken in my 4 years here. 80% of the exams come from the HW and review questions, no trick questions at all. If you fail then it's truly because you just don't try. He gives you all of the resources needed to pass. He gives a lot of extra credit as well. He's a great professor.

I was taking 5 classes this fall and only Dr. Aly cared to modify his course material to suite online teaching. Absolutely the best professor at UA. I feel sorry for the poor reviews posted by failures who want to pass without studying.

If I took this class in my first year, Id have switched my major to Geology based of Prof. Alys teaching! I entered this class knowing nothing about Geology and gained lots of knowledge within just 3 months. This professor knows how to simplify science to non specialized people. There is no question that he cant answer.

Take this class from Professor Aly but beware that he teaches it only in fall semesters, so you may have to wait a whole year. Be careful when you choose your lab and ask for recommendations. Labs are taught by too many TAs and some of them are terrible. My TA was not good, so I cannot recommend him.

The professor: one of the best at UA. The class: not the easiest but professor Aly makes it doable for average students. The lab: this is a separate class and you do not have to take it unless it is required by your college.

Physical Geology and Professor Aly are wonderful but the class is offered now online. If you do not like online classes, then wait till it gets back to normal after the pandemic.

Dr. Aly is very passionate about Physical Geology and natural hazards. Enjoyed going to class every time and never missed a session. He is a busy professor, so be very specific when you email him. The layout of this class is perfect.

I do not like big classes and this class is huuuuge (200+ students), but Professor Aly has very good control on everything and everyone in the class. No one can breath without his permission! Course materials are very well developed and organized. Good class for good students.

Dr. Aly is not only a brilliant professor but also a wonderful gentleman. I had to interact with him due to a family emergency and he was very understanding and accommodated all my needs.

this is the only low-level geology course professor Aly teaches. sad that i cannot take more classes from him.

I recommend this class to engineering students. The professor and class are excellent but you have to attend and take notes if you want to do well. Beware this is a 200+ class.

Probably the best science class on campus. Geology is not my favorite subject but Professor Aly made this class interesting and understandable to nonmajors.

He is very intelligent when it comes to science. Never try to trick him because he knows all the tricks! I learned this the hard way.

You cannot get an A or a B in this class by luck. NO WAY! The professor makes you work for it and he is very fair. Without hesitation, I would take any class from Dr. Aly. Such a great professor.

Attendance is required and he does not give points for perfect attendance, but you cannot get a good grade in this class without regular attendance. Most topics are interesting and I enjoyed going to class. This professor has very good reputation.

Tough grader but honestly the best professor I have ever taken. Always willing to re-explain things in many different ways to make sure you understand the science.

Dr. Aly is one of my best professors and his class was very organized and well developed. The only thing that I did not like was using Respondus for online exams; other than that everything was great.

I recommend this class to students looking for a good science class. The professor is super genius and knows how to teach geology to non-majors. I do not recommend this class to students who cannot attend class or do not respect deadlines.

This class is weird. There are hundred of assignments that "should" be done. However some of these assignments take hours and hours. But, there are over 1000 extra credit points that you can take to boost your grade by complete letters. If you are interested in the topic than yes, take this class. If you are not however, then definitely don't.

Having taking 4 of Dr. Aly's classes, I can attest to his profound science knowledge and outstanding teaching abilities. His classes are very well organized focused on the specified learning objectives. Dr. Aly brings invaluable real world expertise to the classroom ensuring a comprehensive and practical learning experience for his students.

Dr. Aly's intro to geospatial applications class was a great introductory course that was not too hard. There is lots of extra credit presented, so it is fairly easy to receive an A, but some of the assignments can be challenging. I did not talk/email with him very much, as he has TAs that practically lead the course.

I took every class taught by Prof Aly and just got a wonderful job offer. During my interview, I came to realize that Prof Aly's classes and excellent reputation were the reason I was considered. Thanks my best professor for leading the education of geospatial technology in Arkansas. Sooooo proud of you Prof Aly!

Dr. Aly has significantly modernized and improved the online GIS classes. My sister took similar courses a few years ago with a different professor, and when she reviewed my course content, she immediately noticed how much Dr. Aly has enhanced and updated the material. Thank you, Dr. Aly, for making these excellent online classes available!
