Saber knows the material, but is not good at relaying that knowledge to students at all. His lectures are all over the place and confusing. He is a nice guy, but has been confusing so far.
He is absolutely terrible at lecturing, I never understood a single thing he was talking about because he wasn't clear and didn't explain things for students to understand. He gives so much homework that is too easy compared to the test so I'm really out here spending 5h a week on chem and then it's not even useful.
This was Dr. Saber's first year teaching CHEM 107. This meant the class was exceptionally hard this year as there was no prior exams or resources. He knows the material and does a decent job at being able to relay the information. The first two tests were exceptionally hard, with a few A's. Homework is time-consuming and overall, not relevant.
Saber is a very intelligent man and definitely understands the subject, however he does not properly relay this information during lectures. It feels like I am sitting there for 1 hour and 15 minutes without learning anything. The homework we are required to do is completely unrelated to what is covered on the tests. But, he is a super sweet prof.
This class wasn't too bad. There was a lot of online homework but it is manageable. I found the SI test review sessions very helpful because he didn't have any past exams for practice. Saber is really nice and knows a lot about chemistry.
Saber is a great prof who knows alot about the material taught. He has tendency to go in depth as his test do not cover half of the stuff gone over in class. His test are very manageable and is only over the very basic concepts of the chapters. Overall a very good prof who presents a great challenge for any student looking to become an engineer.
Dr. Saber is a nice guy. Got a B even though I failed all 3 main tests and got a C on the final. If you don't get an A in his class, you aren't trying. That being said, he does give a lottttt of homework. There was 1 extra credit assignment. Tests are a lot easier than his lectures make them seem. Do all the work, go to class, study a bit, easy A.
Dr. Saber is a very tough professor. His lectures are straight from slides and he makes it very difficult to understand the concept. He has 3 tests and 1 final which are very, very hard. His lectures are a brief summary of what is on the test, but the tests are way more in depth. Would not recommend taking him if you want to understand chemistry
His class is hard but as long as you show effort he is willing to work with you. He offered me help to understand the material, he really likes when you ask questions to show him that you are invested in the class. He also makes sure that he pays attention to his students. His tests are difficult but the SI sessions and his office hours are helpful
If you're willing to work for your grade it is worth it to take his class. He is very smart, cares about us doing good, & loves teaching. There's 3 exams & a final which he curves heavily. There is a lot of homework on OWL but it helps prepare you for the exam. He also gives lots of i clicker points helping your grade. Study and you will get an A!
If you have the option to switch professors, I would highly suggest it. I learned nothing from his lectures and was purely there to answer clicker questions. He may stress that you need to know certain things for the exam, but the probability that they are on the exam is slim. I learned everything I needed to know from my SI. Do OWL before lectures
worst professor Ive ever had. I showed up to all the lectures, did all the hw, read the textbook. his tests are completely different than what he teaches in class, and hes terrible at explaining. He is extremely nice tho. passed the class with 1 F n 2 Ds on tests and a 53 on the final. Do the HW and clicker qs, they will save your grade a ton
Prof. Saber is a very kind and caring man, if you put in the effort he'll want to watch you succeed. That being said his lectures are a complete waste of time, but be there because the clicker questions really boost your grade. The class is intensely homework heavy and that's where you'll have to teach yourself. He curves all tests to help everyone
The lecture PowerPoints are pointless, but attendance is mandatory because there are clicker questions everyday. A+ tutoring was very helpful in preparing for the exams. He will curve each exam as well.
If you do the homework and attend class you will make an A. Saber is the best!
The class is hard and you have to be on top of it because he glosses over huge amounts of info very quickly. The lectures are hard to follow and he goes on without explanation even if asked usually. Basically, he's very nice but doesn't offer much help in lecture. You've gotta read and work to understand it.
His accent makes it hard to understand what he is saying during lecture. He is also terrible at explaining/teaching the topics so you're best bet is to go to SI and review sessions. His TAs teach better than him. Clicker question's suck but do well on everything else so you can skip class and only have that bring you down
Professor Saber cares about his students, but he has 1000 of them so that makes things more difficult. The class can be pretty difficult since the tests cover a bunch of material. He has curved some of the tests, I recommend reading the book and going over homework questions for studying. His lectures are completely useless, but you have to go.
I honestly think that some of his ratings are not actual students because his class was very monotonous and boring. It doesn't help at all that he has an accent and does not speak loudly and enunciate. He does not curve the tests like one person mentioned. Clicker questions do help but all chem professors have them.
Unlike some of these other reviews, Dr. Saber was a good professor. He will answer any question, and everyone seems to take for granted his test are the easiest out of all the CHEM107 professors. His lectures sometimes are pointless as the homework goes so much more in depth and have prepare you better for the test.
His tests are very straightforward and related to stuff covered in the lectures. The owl teaches you most of the math though. He's very sweet and frequently curves harder exams. His accent is really not that bad. If you do all the work and pay attention, you can easily get an A!
Honestly feel as if a school like Texas A&M can do alot better with their chem professors. Prof Saber is a nice person but a terrible lecturer. You learn nothing from lecture and his plans are all over the place. He was unorganized many times throughout the semester and it was embarrassing. You will learn best by doing the online hw.
Dr. Saber is a nice guy, but is primarily here to do research. That is not to say that he doesn't care about teaching though. All tests were multiple choice, and he tries to avoid curves as much as possible. He cares about whether or not you do well on his tests, and will help you as much as he can when going over an exam. DO READ THE TEXTBOOK THO.
Dr. Saber gets a bad rep from 1.) those who don't attend class, and 2.) those who don't put effort outside of class. Saber is a very caring man and goes out of his way to make sure students understand. His lectures are very fast but that is bc of the volume of material covered in Chem 107. Attend class, work ahead in OWL, Extra Credit, A is do-able
Saber is alright but he blows through his lectures making attending class not worth it (besides clicker questions) since you have to go and relearn everything at home. He assumes we know the topic basics so he doesn't go in as much depth as he needs to. He does answer questions well though and is a really nice guy who cares about your grades.
Saber is a very caring individual. However, As a teacher, he tends to zoom through most of the harder parts of the chapters. Be prepared to learn chemistry on your own time. If you do decide to take his class: Do all the practice exams he gives you, read the textbook, and practice. Come to class because he asks clicker questions. Easy to reach.
Dr. Saber is definitely not the best CHEM107 prof, and definitely not the worst. Has an accent but if you sit at the front there's no issue. If you had exposure to college level chem in high school Saber will be fine, otherwise it's going to be a lot of work to make the grades. If you already know what's going on, Saber's a great prof to take.
This was honestly the hardest class I've ever taken. That being said, I improved on every exam and made a B in the class. Saber is definetly a caring professor, and while his lectures are not too helpful, you still have to go. If you put in lots of studying and work hard, you can do well!
Dr. Saber is a terrible professor. The class was incredibly disorganized, multiple mass test regrades. For the final, he told my section, that had to take the exam 5 days before his others, that the exam would cumulative. The night before the exam he sends out a slide that says the exam be 45% just from the final 2 chapters. The exam was at 730 AM.
Worst professor I could've had, do not take his class. Tests are so hard and lectures are so not helpful. I only went for the clicker questions. Could've skipped every lecture and it would've made no difference. The only thing that help for this class was outside tutoring. Overall, just a terrible teacher and would 100% NOT recommend.
His lectures are not very helpful and it's a lot of learning by yourself. That being said, if you REALLY PUSH yourself, you can get an A in this class. Go to as many SI sessions and do as many practice exams as possible. There's tons of help for this class. His lectures are good for getting problem solving methods down AND CLICKER POINTS. Take him
Saber is a very fast lecturer however, that is mostly due to the sheer volume of the information discussed in the course. His powerpoints have all the relevant information and are always accessible. Despite this, you should go to class as there are clicker questions that count towards your grade.
Worship the PowerPoint slides you are given. They are the single best thing to study for the tests. Admittedly, they still won't be enough. You can read the textbook, but it still won't help. Expect a TON of online homework. The tests are crazy, the class is disorganized, and Saber doesn't care whether his students pass or fail.
Prof Saber basically lectures off of the powerpoint and there're at least two OWL assignments every week. Doing well on the tests isn't too hard if you pay attention/have a good high school base and there's one extra credit q on each test. A lot of studying/understanding of the concepts is required.
Saber is a teacher that is passionate about what he's teaching and I do believe that he cares about his students. However, his lectures are fast-paced and confusing, homework is usually lengthy, and office hours are always packed and disorganized. If the lectures don't make sense, read the book. If you get him, don't stress too hard, work hard
Though very kind, professor saber's lectures move far too quickly for someone entirely new to chemistry outside of a basic high school class. Further, his lectures and homework pale in comparison to the difficulty present in his exams, so relying on either as study material felt foolish at best. Finally, his office hours were utterly insufficient.
I know it sounds strange, but Dr Saber is a great person. His class is very hard, but I have to say that he is great teacher. He is a 5/5 teacher, but his class is also a 5/5 difficulty.
His lectures were not very helpful, so I attended APlus tutoring which helped a lot. He is a very nice guy and is willing to help you during his office hours but they are only for an hour. There is a lot of homework assignments and most of them have A LOT of questions. There are clicker questions in each class so attendance is mandatory.
Proff Saber is a caring person. That being said, he is a horrible lecturer. It is hard to understand him, and his lectures are more like a review than an actual lecture.
Dr. Saber was a pretty decent teacher; I'd only had one basic chemistry course in high school and was fine. Most engr students take chem their first semester of college and don't understand how to study, so I'm guessing a lot of his bad reviews are from people that expected to be able to just come to class with no outside prep and do fine.
Has an accent but isn't too hard to understand. Exams are wild cards; some were based on lecture and homework, but others were based on the book. The average for the midterm was a 62! However, he does curve when the average is low, and changed the final because of the low midterm scores. Do the clicker questions, there's no reason not to.
This professor just reads off of the powerpoints and solves some practice problems. However he never posts the workout part when pe puts the slides on ecampus. Half the time he doesn't know what he is talking about. The tests are basically the review and that's the only reason I passed the class.
currently taking saber for the 10 wk summer session and so far he's been really thorough with his lectures. now that everything is online, tests are entirely based on the sections covered in the book and the hw. dont skip lectures bc of clicker questions through reef. he doesnt respond fast to emails but when he did he was helpful. he curves tests!
Everyone who took Chem 107 had a completely different experience than if you took Chem 119 with him. The labs are easy but the teacher expects a lot out of you with infrequent to no reminders about anything related to a grade with the exception of tests. He does not care if the class fails. Overall he ruined my love for chemistry if Im being honest
This prof has a heavy accent. This prof is a good enough teacher, but he has little patience for people who struggle with the material. This prof frequently makes errors grading that will often go unfixed even if you email and go in to ask him to fix them. Not your worst prof, but pick someone else if you can.
His lecture videos are hard to understand, therefore you basically have to teacher yourself.
Saber cares, but I do not believe he understands how to communicate to lower level courses. The real issue was with his TA. He literally does not care at all how you do and can barely speak English. His due dates in class and in ecampus probably won't be the same and he'll blame you for his faulty ecampus use.
Will not meet you outside of office hours or respond to emails at all, so you are screwed when you have other classes during his hours. When I didn't have a class that day, sat for 30 minutes waiting in his office hours for him to not let me in or discuss anything-had to leave for another class. Awful- never take him.
This is Prof. Saber's first year teaching this course, and it's been a nightmare. After paying for tutoring and going to all sorts of tutoring sessions I still have to talk to my advisor about dropping this class. Mistakes in exams go unchecked, there's no extensions/makeups for illness, and his office hours are soul-crushing at best. A real shame.
This class was an absolute nightmare. Not only is he hard to understand but he overcomplicates the subject matter and gets angry when people ask questions. I went to tutoring, did all the homeworks, spent hours studying, but the class simply felt impossible. You basically end up teaching yourself everything. DO NOT recommend taking him.
save yourself and your GPA and take literally anyone else. very unhelpful and disorganized way of teaching. you'll learn more from someone helping you that has another bio prof than you will from him. halfway through the semester I've done 90+ hours of ALEKS homework, find a professor that wants to teach and isn't just here for research.
He's cool and accomodating.
I'm taking his online class in Fall 2020. He uses iClicker and ALEKS, and his class overall is manageable. I have an A right now, the labs are pretty easy, and he gives you 2 practice exams that are nearly identical to the actual exams. Not bad. Just don't procrastinate on homework, do the practice exams, and review his lecture videos before class.
One of those professors that acts like you should know the material that they've been teaching 20 years. Unless you had an amazing chemistry foundation from high school, don't expect to do well. Exams are pretty much all short answer/fill in the blank. Lectures are all monotone and his handwriting is difficult to read. Does upload lectures though.
A lot of people did not like Professor Saber. However, many of these students did not put the work in to be successful. In order to be successful I had to spend a lot of time studying outside of class. Every night before lecture I printed off his slides and did the examples in the PowerPoint using his videos. He gives AMAZING practice exams! DOTHEM
This is the worst class I have ever taken. You will end up teaching yourself everything. Don't miss a class because he does clicker questions which count as a grade. All exams are free response and he doesn't care if the class passes/fails. Saber is a caring person but not a good teacher at all.
Saber is a solid professor who gives every student the resources to be successful as long as you use them and put in the work. He gave two opportunities to make up test points and lowered iClicker (in-class problems) and homework required percentages to help people's grades. All general science classes in college are difficult. Just put in effort.
All of the test are open ended, and he hardly gives partial credit. You can't skip class because there are iClicker questions during lecture that are apart of the grade. If you want to get the iClicker questions right, you have to watch his lengthy Youtube videos before class where he shows how to work the problems. His handwriting is hard to read.
I honestly dont know why his ratings are so bad. You really just need to put some effort into this class to pass it (do the homework, answer iclicker question, go to SI reviews). Tests are pretty straightforward and based almost 100% on the reviews he gives you. He also pays attention to class averages and gives extra points.
Dr. Saber has a very specific teaching style (be prepared to watch lecture videos before class to do iClicker questions in class) He does try his best at the end of the semester to make sure that everyone passes by lowering reef and aleks cutoffs. Not a bad professor, just has a very unique teaching style.
Dr. Saber was a great professor! He posted lecture videos to watch before class and did examples in class which was great for asking questions. A lot of students felt this was not effective but it worked for me, just depends on your learning style. You really have to apply yourself to do well like all chem 119 classes. Read and take good notes!
Saber is a very knowledgeable prof who cares about the success of his students. He let us all retake the first exam because the average was low and is generous with ways to improve your grade. He posts practice exams before each exam that are similar in content, length, and difficulty. He prepares his students really well if they out in the work
I switched out of his class, and it was my best decision. He seems like a great guy, however I could simply not learn even the simplest concepts from him. With a class this difficult, having a good professor is key. Id say im a pretty easy going and adaptable learner, however this was definitely not the professor for me.
I was scared about chem, but Saber was great online. Both sides had some figuring out to do, but over time things became more clear, and you knew what to expect with each test (practice tests help A LOT). Occasional curves. Uses ALEKS (not bad), iClicker. Mostly calculations, sometimes conceptual. Very caring, wants students to do well. Don't fear!
A lot of people have bad things to say about him due to the rough start at the beginning, but he's a really nice guy. He truly cares for his students and will put in the work to see you succeed. He always posts practice tests before each exam, and they're always the exact concepts on the tests. Any bit of effort goes a long way in his class.
Professor Saber was a good professor. He is an understanding man and he works with his students to make sure they do well in chem. You do have to attend lecture because he gives clicker questions and you have to put in your share of work to do well in the class. His practice exams are like the exams so do those and you'll be good for exams.
Dr. Sabers class is very challenging like any other chem class. His lectures can be hard to follow but he tries to help in many ways. This is a homework heavy class and there is clicker questions that are used for attendance. Overall you get what you put in to this class, he rewards your hard work at the end of the semester by curving grades.
Great professor. A lot of work has to be done outside of class but as long as you do the work to the best of your ability you will be fine. He brought down the grade cutoffs at the end of the semester which really helped a lot of people. His practice tests are all exactly the same types of questions on the real tests.
If you are willing to put work into this class, you can get an A. He drops clicker questions and lowers grade cutoffs to help students. His exams are practically the practice ones. I found reading the textbook helped with any questions I had. Make sure to watch the videos he posts before lectures, he goes really fast in class.
Not the best, but he definitely tries. Toward the end of the semester he was very accommodating and adjusted grades generously. Lecture attendance was mandatory (clicker questions) as well as several videos needed to be watched prior to class. ALEKS is used for hw.
Probably one of the hardest classes I've had to take, and having Saber as a professor definitely did not help. He seemed to get mad at people for asking questions and got frustrated when we didn't understand the material. He is also not very good at using technology which is frustrating considering it was an online class.
To be honest, he is not a good teacher. But if you took CHEM AP in highschool you'll be fine. Practice exams identical to the exam, he lowered cutoffs and curved a lot, generally very sweet guy just not a good teacher. Do the ALEKS hw, and reef questions in class, that is what stopped me from getting an A.
He was a very nice man but had trouble teaching hard concepts over zoom. He made really good practice tests with answer keys that were basically the same as the test. Those helped me do well in the class. Make sure you read textbook and hw. He curved a lot of the grades at the end of made the point cut off lower because he saw a lot of us struggle.
If you took Chem AP in high school, this class is a literal review of that. Lectures were important since there were REEF questions that contributed to your final grade. Saber made practice tests that were similar to the real tests so that helped out a lot for studying and what to expect. He is a great professor overall.
This course is difficult and WILL challenge you, keep that in mind. For me he was kind to give extra opportunities to the class and was not bad at first, but at the end of the course he ignored my emails when I ran into technical difficulties and never really helped me there, which cost me an A. I'd highly suggest off-site tutoring to perform well.
I took Prof. Saber's Intro to Chem last semester as a freshman and thought he was a decent teacher. Looking back, I'm realizing he was mediocre at best. I did well in his class, but only because I taught myself the majority of the course. Sweet man, but I wouldn't recommend taking from him if you don't have to.
I took this professor my freshman year and he honestly scared me from ever taking any chem class from A&M. He really wouldnt help when ever someone would ask for help. He is a nice person but overall avoid taking any classes with him.
I took him during the pandemic in Fall, and although he seems to be a nice guy who cares, his teaching style confused a majority of the class. He would curve our exams, but only because the averages were always failing. His lecture topic videos were hard to understand. Now that I've taken Chem120, I realize how much better this class could've gone.
You can tell Dr. Saber knows what he's doing, but he doesn't know how to teach it to a class. I learned most of the topics of the year through the online homework. Super confusing lectures but go to the TA hosted supplemental instruction sessions and you will do good.
Lectures are long and drag on. He's extremely hard to understand when it comes to new material and you will struggle to follow along with what he's talking about. Wouldn't recommend when looking to have a clear understanding of chemistry and come out with a decent grade. Class grade is based on a 10 question quiz every 2 weeks, lab & like 2 exams.
I would not take professor saber again. I had him for chem 119 this year. He is a nice guy, so I don't love writing about him like this. but his lectures were hard to follow, very inconsistent in grades, does give extra credit. The homeworks took up every single bit of free time I had. Chem is supposed to be hard, but not this hard.
Professor knows what hes talking about but doesnt know how to teach it
So much homework. I have no free time. Exams are multiple choice mostly but his lectures dont explain anything.
Saber is a great person in general and has funny moments in his lectures but do not expect to learn from his lectures. He goes slow but it is still just hard to grasp concepts. His grading can sometimes be unforgiving and I would just not really recommend him if you already struggle with chemistry
This class has THE MOST unorganized deadlines for both in-class assignments and lab deadlines. Not only is stuff unclear, weekly assignments may have different deadlines each week like ALEKS and quizzes. While the concepts are pretty easy if you took Chemisty in high school, Professor Saber is very monotone and bad at explaining these concepts.
Professor Saber is a great guy! His lectures are hard to follow though and you have to do an insane amount of outside learning in order to do well in his class. It is possible, but maybe not the best route for gen chem. If you work hard, a good grade is possible! There is a textbook, but practice problems are the most beneficial.
Professor Saber seems like a well meaning guy, but his lectures are almost incomprehensible. Very slow but tough to understand, and if you aren't that familiar with chemistry you will have to put in an exorbitant amount of work to pass. Not good for an entry level class. Also, his due dates are seemingly picked by throwing darts at a board.
Dr. Saber is really a nice guy. I like him a lot and maybe if I attended class more often, Id have a better understanding of chemistry. It was very hard to stay engaged in lecture especially with everyone just as confused as me. I recommend starting ALEKS topics before attending class to be able to follow along. Only 2 tests: Midterm and Final.
Overall, Saber comes across as a guy that's probably too smart to be teaching an intro class. Sometimes the lectures are confusing because he overcomplicates, but you can tell he loves what he does. Homework is easy, both tests had practice tests that were pretty close if not the same as the actual test, and the canvas quizzes are tricky but doable
He was not helpful at all. When you would go to office hours to get help he would ask if you "had a specific question" when you were reaching out to better understand class material. I feel like unless you are already super good at chem this class is impossible. This class will take all your time.
Professor Saber is not the best lecturing professor but he is very lenient and wants the best for his students. The key to succeeding in this class is to do the homework and drill the topics. Quizzes are not too hard and he drops the lowest quiz grade. While attendance is not mandatory, participation is graded.
Dr. Saber is nice professor, but very difficult to understand with a heavy accent. ALEKS, the homework / online learning program, was a major pain, but is required for all CHEM courses. He would conduct experiments during lectures, which was pretty neat and sometimes dismissed class early. I take him again semester and plan on earning an A.
Dr. Saber is a great professor and clearly very knowledgable about his craft. Sometimes he would over complicate things, but as a whole I think he does a great job teaching and providing resources. Grading is tough, quizzes/exams determine your grade, little leniency, ended with a 87.5 (88A) and had to take a B. That is my biggest disappointment.
Saber is a caring man but he cannot teach. Any chemistry course will be hard but prepare to teach the whole course to yourself. Lots of hw, but again thats any chemistry class. Expect to be studying heavily for this class.
Professor Saber was a good professor. His rating does not do him justice. He provided many opportunities for students to redeem their grades. He tried to make lectures interesting, and there is a lot of homework however all CHEM classes have that. I would take him again but his lectures do not match my learning style.
Saber's class is not extremely test heavy since there is only a midterm and a final. With that being said, quizzes are extremely important as well as completing/staying on top of the online homework (ALEKS). His lectures aren't very helpful, and it is a lot of studying/learning on your own.
Dr. Saber is a great person, but is not the best professor. His lectures were sometimes difficult to follow, but is very willing to answer questions. However, if you took AP Chemistry in high school, this class should be an easy A. Practice quizzes and exams are almost identical to the actual ones. Very lenient with iClicker cutoff percentage.
If you have taken AP Chemistry before, this class should be very doable. There is a lot of homework, but it does make tests easier. Expect a quiz about every other week or so. They have a pretty big impact on your grade. So long as you answer the participation questions asked in class and stay on top of the work, an A is easy to get
Saber gets a lot of bad reviews, but honestly, he's not too bad. You won't learn much from this class but he is one of the only professors who is willing to help his students pass his class. You can tell he wants to help out. His quizzes are all multiple choice, and I think that's pretty good compared to all the other chem professors.
I took him for CHEM 119 because I needed to take the class and his class wasn't horrible. He was super sweet and changed his expectations, as class went on, to match how we were doing as a whole class. He was very lenient but was very confusing, hard to understand at times, and if you have the chance to take another prof, take them.
OMG please do not register for Saber! I am saving you from having to deal with poorly instructed lectures, teaching all of the material yourself, unorganized deadlines, and tests that do not correspond with his review material or countless quizzes assigned.
He's a great professor if you seek him out. Hard to understand sometimes but he is very patient and willing to work with you. Midterm and final only, quizzes every two weeks that are not similar to the practices.
Worst professor I have ever had. Doesn't care if you pass or fail. It's obvious that he's a smart guy, but he's an awful teacher. He'll say a sentence and expect you to know it with no explanation at all. Never again.
Absolutely ruined my first semester. I thought about chemistry 24/7 and started having nightmares about this class. Did not explain whatsoever, rushed through lectures, gave so much homework. He was pretty nice and pushed back some due dates if multiple people emailed. Class groupme was the only reason I ever knew what was goin on. Good luck...
The main reason why people complain about him is because they don't use their resources. He assigns as much work as all the other CHEM 119 profs, and was lenient with the deadlines was in order to help us, due to so many people procrastinating and then complaining. He was very kind and always catered to us, extending deadlines multiple times.
I was a little wary of Dr. Saber after looking at his rate my professor, but I found him to be a fantastic professor! His lectures have a lot of information but are clear to follow, and he works out a lot of problems in class so you get a lot of practice. Dr. Saber is really nice and cares for his students. Both his mid-term and final had reviews
