He's not as clear as he should be when teaching. I recommend a background with AP Calculus AB before coming to this class, otherwise you might get lost.
He explains most everything you need to know in class AND gives examples of every type of problem that will be on the homework and on the exam. Also, he does have pretty cheesy jokes, but they elicit laughter because they're so cheesy.
Excellent teacher. Makes great jokes that keep you interested in what's on the board. Not too hard if you study diligently and regularly, which is expected for any calculus class. Addresses all questions with respect. I didn't really care for math before this, but he is really an excellent teacher.
Great teacher with a great personality and humor. I suggest you have some experience of Calculus before taking this class though. It is an easy A if you study diligently and take notes, as with any other class. I highly recommend him.
I can't stand math, and was very nervous about Differential Calculus. Prof. Akbar presented the material in as clear and concise way as could be possible. Funny, personable and genuinely caring about his students. I enrolled for his Integral Calculus because I didn't want any other professor. Highly recommend.
Professor Akbar is probably the most friendly teacher Ive ever had. I am not in the least bit a fan of math, but I can sit through an hour lecture of his and not get bored. He is one of the better math professors Ive had. The class isnt easy at all, but at least lectures are intereting.
I had never taken Calculus before Dr. Akbar's class so I was worried about it. Also, I had heard from other people that had him before that he wasn't a good teacher. However, honestly Akbar's good at explaining things(especially for people who haven't taken calculus before) and as long as you go to class and do the homework youll do fine.
Dr. Akbar is awesome! He is funny so his class doesn't get too boring. Sometimes he has to rush information at the end of class, but he is super fair.
Akbar is my favorite professor at UTD! He keeps class interesting, and has a very interactive class. I learned a lot, and loved coming to class everyday.
Dr. Akbar is very kind and friendly to his students. He knows his stuff and he is knowledgeable. However, if you take linear algebra with him, you have to be cautious because the tests and homework could be time-consuming and challenging.
He seemed to know the class material very well, but he struggled with passing that knowledge on to his students. In my experience, the problem section, taught by one of his TAs Houssein Assaad, was much more beneficial than his lecture.
Dr. Akbar is an excellent professor. In my experience with him, he went above and beyond to help me several times. He keeps class lively and interesting, and really makes sure we know what to expect on exams. I planned my entire schedule this semester around his class so that I could have him again.
Most helpful Math Professor ever. Love him. Took him for differential calculus and integral calculus. He is very clear and very helpful.
Most clear Applied Cal 2 teacher. Give it a week to get used to the accent. Very helpful to those not good at math. His class usually has highest GPA.
He is so helpful. I absolutely hate Calculus, but Dr. Akbar makes everything more clear. If he had taught me precal, I probably would have done so much better in Calculus. I am also in his Integral Calculus class this year, and doing better the longer he is my teacher.
Amazing teacher. Very nice, very funny, and cares about students. Second test is hard, but he shares tests with other professors so it doesn't matter who you take.
Pros: Great Professor, nice, funny, knows his material. The book isn't mandatory whatsoever. Take Notes! Cons: He gets off topic easily, runs over time because of said distractions. Differential is child's play in comparison to integral however!
Wonderful math teacher and even better human. Wish there were more math teachers and humans like him. He is eminently respectful and clearly puts a lot of thought and effort into developing a solid lecture. Highly recommend.
What a great professor he is one of my favorite at UTD makes the class very enjoyable. He wants you to learn, he is very helpful. If you have a choice take it with him he is such a great professor.
Awesome guy, truly cares about his students. It is a hard class but he will work with anyone to help them out. One of the most caring professors on campus.
Dr. Akbar is by far my favorite professor. He has high expectations for his students, but he is very encouraging and helpful. He makes a difficult subject fun. note: Assignments and tests are determined by the department.
Great professor. His lectures are very clear and easy to follow. He tries to make the class manageable and lightens the moods with funny stories. If you're taking Calc 1 and Calc 2, take Dr. Akbar for sure.
Wonderful professor. Easy to understand and has great sense of humor. Homework and quizzes are perfect study guides for exam. Easy A if you do the homework and quizzes. I would recommend taking him.
Wonderful professor. Very good at explaining things in different ways and also has a great sense of humor. Quizzes and homework are great study guides for exams. I would recommend taking him.
Took him in a summer course and he is really a great and funny teacher. He wants his students to succeed so he gives a lot of hw problems. It's really helpful, so if you do the work, you will easily pass.
Great professor, he cares about his students. He always has interesting stories (ask him about chemistry)and makes a dry subject such as calculus not as suck as much by keeping class interesting. He explains the subject matter well. The only downside, he tends to go longer than class time. I'd recommend not having a class right after his class.
Dr. Akbar is the best teacher ever. I hadn't had a math class in a few years and he was great at paying special attention to and helping me thoroughly understand each concept. He lets you use a cheat sheet for exams, front/back, handwritten.
Prof. Akbar is by far the best teacher that i have ever taken. He made calculus lecture worth coming to. Anyone in his class was envied! Extremely recommend him!!!
One of the best professors at UTD. I will sincerely miss his class, one of the only classes I enjoyed going to. It was also one of the few classes where missing a class really put you behind. Btw, i took a different proffesor for differential, after taking prof akbar for integral, I did better in integral and found it easier!
Integral is so much harder than differential. Make sure u pay close attention to Akbar's lecture and practice daily. Akbar is an amazing person inside and outside the classroom. Extremely helpful and his lectures are enjoyable. Dont plan on taking any class after his though, you'll be late every day or miss important endings to akbar's lectures.
Professor Akbar is the best instructor I've had at UTD so far. Math is not my strong subject, but he is very helpful in class and in his office hours. This is a very difficult class, but if you go to his lectures and do the homework/test reviews, you should be prepared. I highly recommend Akbar!
tHE BEST TEACHER EVER.
Professor Akbar is by far the best math teacher I have ever had. He often tells stories during class and has a wonderful sense of humor that manages to keep the class in a good mood and engaged in the topics being taught. My only problem is that he tends to go over the time when class should end, so try to have no classes right after his!
Professor Akbar was the reason I actually enjoyed coming to Calculus. He's an amazing lecturer and he genuinely cares about all his students; he won't move on unless the everyone in the class understands. He is very funny and adds in his own stories/life lessons throughout class to keep it interesting. Overall one of the best profs I could ask for
He knows the material but does not stay on track. He'll tell multiple stories and give motivational speeches for 40 minutes and attempt to rush everything we were supposed to learn in the last 15 minutes of class. He explains concepts decently and is a pretty average grader.
If you want philosophical business calc, he is the way to go. If you have a hard time with math, take someone else. He is a charming guy but loses focus at times.
Put simply the best class Ive taken at UTD! Because, (1) Dr. Akbar's lectures were pedagogical; (2) he covered similar materials as that of the Univ of Cambridge course -- we even solved the same HW sets (if not harder) as theirs; (3) The class was very vibrant; he would regularly stay as long as 1 hour longer to discuss & cover the materials.
Dr. Akbar is the best professor I took this semester. He cares so much about his students and periodically keeps checking that everyone is clear on the concept. He is always happy to answer any questions in class and outside. Attendance is not taken, but showing up to class is recommended. Would take him again in a heartbeat.
This professor is by far the best one I had all semester. He cares so much about his students and he will make sure that everyone feels welcomed. He loves what he teaches and he is really good at it. I would recommend him to everyone.
He was a great professor for the class.
Dr Akbar is an incredibly smart and charismatic professor. He genuinely cares for his students both personally and academically. He's dedicated a solid 20 hours total outside of class to make sure I understood the material. He also held a final exam study session for a group of students that lasted til 1AM. Hard class but I enjoyed his class a lot
Dr. Akbar was my favorite professor by far this semester. He is very dedicated, even going out of his way to meet up with students to review outside of his office hours. Very responsive to emails and answers all questions without belittling the person. Understands all topics thoroughly. For every unit we covered, he made a handwritten review. Best!
He was a really caring and understanding professor. He's always available outside of class and makes sure that every single person understands the material before moving on. He's also willing to bump your grade if he sees that you're trying and is genuinely an incredibly caring person. By far one of the best professors I've ever had.
Cares a lot about his students and goes the extra mile to explain potentially hard topics using funny analogies. He did a big review for the final on a Friday night and was willing to stay all night to help. Definitely take him if calculus isn't your strong suit.
Actually, i like him. He really is a good prof. He respect his students, encourage students to ask question. Also, he is very knowledgeable, not only in science, he knows literature. I like having his class. Take him
One of my favorite professor on campus. Akbar is hilarious and he genuinely cares about his students, knowing us by name. He constantly made sure we understood the material before he moved on to the next topic. Calculus may not come easy to everyone but Akbar really explained concepts thoroughly and answered whatever "dumb" questions we had.
respectful professor, didactic lectures, i highly recommend him.
AMAZING!! TAKE HIM IF YOU HATE MATH AND YOU WILL FALL IN LOVE WITH IT!!!!
Best Professor EVER!! Take him and you won't ever regret it. It's really easy to get an A as the exams are very similar to the Take Home Quizzes. Do the hw and thq's and you'll be fine. He's hilarious and tells us funny stories when we look bored. He knows everyone by name and always makes sure there are no questions unanswered. Take him!!
It's honestly a really easy class. Just study the quizzes for the exams and you should easily get an A. He's a really funny teacher who tells lots of inspirational stories in class. Good luck!
Probably one of the best math professors I have taken. Really organized lectures, he knows what he is talking about. Explains very well. If you don't understand something, go to his office hours. He is funny so his lectures become interesting. He is a very wise man and cares about his students so listen to his advice.
I took this professor because of the high ratings. I understand that we switched to an online class due to what is going on and maybe that's why the class felt so weird. Many students sent emails about how unfair the tests were and finally, they let us use a calculator. I don't understand why that was even a question to begin with.
He doesn't use any of the eLearning system at all, but instead just send out homework and quizzes via email, and you're supposed to email them back to him with the answers. Check your grades regularly because there might be problems with the TA not getting the hw, and you get a 0. But in that case, just email him with the details. He responds fast.
Professor Akbar made Math 1326 amazing. I always attended lectures because his lectures were always fun, inspirational, and hilarious. Akbar loves to entertain his students and is very lively, always making every situation comical for the class to enjoy. Amazing teacher. Take him! The department however needs to fix its organization issues...
It does not get better than Dr. Akbar. Not only is he an amazing professor he is also hilarious. He cares about every single student and wants you to ask questions (no question is a stupid question). If you commit to learning the subject you will do well!
Dr. Akbar is a great professor. He's really engaging and fun to listen to, but he does tend to go off on tangents, so I would recommend not having a class directly after his. He had lots of opportunities for us to review with him outside of class (both as a class and individually in his office hours) and he's just really helpful all around
HE IS THE BEST MATH PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER HAD! The class is about business calculus, but you will learn more than that. He makes every lecture so engaging, and funny and talks about life lessons/stories. He will go on random tangents sometimes and go over 15 min after class, but I didn't mind at all. TAKE HIM YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT!
Prof Akbar is alright. HWs take forever to do and there is a quiz at the end of every lecture. Tests aren't too bad (only 12-20 MCQs). Grading is lenient (lowest test, 2 hws, 4 quizzes drop). 90+ is an A and 80+ is a B.
Has quizzes due a day after each lecture, and assignments are given weekly and they take 2 hours minimum to complete. The lectures dont cover enough content, so he says to read the book, which also doesnt cover enough content to complete the homework. The professor doesnt do exam reviews. Avoid him! He wants you to dedicate your life to this class
Dr. Akbar is genuine, really caring and fun and he listens to the students really well, but he assigns way too much homework, and the homework is really hard as well. I found myself sacrificing my time for other classes just to pass this class, and my major isn't even physics related whatsoever
Huge mistake in picking Akbar as my professor after seeing his high ratings. He's not a bad professor, but he expects way too much from his students. There should be no reason why I'm sacrificing time from my other classes just to make sure I don't fail this one. Do not pick him as your professor unless you absolutely love physics
Dr. Akbar is very knowledgeable in both math and physics. However, I caution taking this class with other difficult classes. He cares, and gives multiple opportunities for you to bring up your grade. It should be noted that this class in general requires a lot of time and effort, makes you feel like a physics major. You get what you put in.
This is his first year teaching physics but he's good professor who clearly explains the concepts. The homework/quizzes are excessive but its the same for all phys 2326 classes. The lectures are very detailed, not "reduntant" as one other review said, and key to getting a good score. It very much is a class where you get what you put into it.
Biggest downside is the amount of homework for this class - a lot. A quiz due the next day after every lecture too. But, lectures and slides are decent, pay attention to the formulas. He's very nice, drops lowest midterm grade and curves at the end. Unfortunately, 3 midterm exams + 1 cumulative final. Not an easy class, but he is a decent professor
The best professor ive had. His lectures always motivated me to learn. the Hw is all the studying i needed to pass, just do the hw and quizzes, and the exams will be easy. dont use answer searches on the hw if you can help it.
I was scared to take physics because I'm terrible at math, but Dr. Akbar's amazing personality and teaching skills worked their magic and I walked out of this course as a new person. He gives great reviews and his lectures are so informative yet entertaining. Trust me, as long as you go to the lectures and reviews you have nothing to worry about.
Take Professor Akbar. He is a wise man who does care about his students. He fights hard to care for his students and pays attention to each person as an individual, which is impressive when he has so many classes. Dr. Akbar often gives life lessons and cracks jokes which makes classes enjoyable, overall smart and kind man. I would recommend.
This guy makes you want to come to class even if you are depressed about your grade. He is the GOAT. Best class I have had at UTD. Funniest teacher on campus but also an amazing lecturer. An actual 2 for 1 wombo combo. MUST TAKE!!!!!!
Best math professor I've ever taken. Made calc a class that I was excited to go, which I had previously never believed possible. His teaching style involves helpful ways to remember things with entertaining stories that connect math to real life. Take Dr. Akbar, you'll be thankful that you have a teacher that is both caring and skilled at teaching.
One of my favorite professors ever. He is an incredible lecturer and is willing to answer every question 10x over. There are times when he goes on tangents about life lessons or stories about his own life, but there is always enough time to cover all of the material necessary. The 2nd exam is quite a bit harder than expected, so just be prepared.
Dr. Akbar is the best professor in the math department. He is extremely talented and truly shows how much he cares about his students. The course is as difficult as any calculus course would be, but he does an amazing job explaining difficult concepts and ensuring that you understand different processes. Definitely take him if you can!
Dr. Akbar is a truly incredible professor. He explains difficult concepts very clearly and encourages questions. He gives inspirational talks that help his students grow beyond just learning math. Students from his class receive the highest scores on the standardized exam. Absolutely take Dr. Akbar if possible.
Alright, I just wanna say, I would not have taken this course with any other professor than Dr. Akbar. Like I am not even gonna lie, more than a course it was an experience. He was very knowledgeable in what he taught and about life. The one thing that made his class different from other professors was that he gave valuable life lessons.
Great Professor that needs to maintain his experience and knowledge! He is really funny and can answer any questions with details. Quiz is every Thursday because this is mandatory for this course, other Cal 2 might have quiz due every week for the grade as well. Highly recommend Dr. Akbar!
My favorite professor I've ever had. If you're worried about calculus. Take him and put in the time and you will be fine.
Amazing professor! Genuinely restored the love I had for math. Best math professor at UTD hands down.
Mohammad Akbar is one of my favorite professors I have ever taken. I needed his positive energy that he brought to every class, just such a wholesome and caring teacher. Sometimes it may be a little unclear what he teaches, but that is just because of the course itself, not the teacher. He loves when students ask questions and shares many stories!
I hate math, but he made the class enjoyable. He is very positive and supportive, and willing to answer each and every question you have. He also made the subject so much easier to understand. I would 100% take him again for future math classes.
Absolutely hilarious, very fun to learn from!
Literally best professor I've ever had! He's funny, pays attention to his students, and is great at explaining. As someone who is not a fan of math, I've been able to succeed because of him.
HE IS AN AMAZINGGG TEACHER. He lectures so well. I took AP calculus in high school but never understood it in such depth as I do in his class. I would really recommend taking him
Amazing professor, gotta study and practice tho as it is a math class. You'll easily pass.
BEST MATH PROFESSOR I'VE EVER HAD!! He's super knowledgeable on the subject (went to college @ Cambridge), VERY organized lectures (writes on whiteboards & easy to understand), & funny (makes 67 jokes). I'm horrible @ math, if u have a question, he will explain it throughly until u understand. Trust me when I say you will REGRET not taking him.
