He made the one girl cry in my class.
This man changed my life. He makes me want to be a professor.
He yells at you and makes fun, but it's all meant in jest. Not an easy prof, but teaches very clearly.
best teacher i ever had, hope to be as good of a teacher myself one day
Dr. Alikhani is one kick-ass teacher, for calc 2, it's important for a student to study on a regular basis...what makes alikhani cool is that he's always helpful and he has a desire to make sure the students learn the material
Class is very fast-paced. Prof yells and takes cell phone calls during class. Very knowledgeable, but arrogant.
Sure he yells. Sure he makes you cry. But hey! That's half the fun! Math is a pain in the butt, yet he provides an environment where you are rarely bored. He is the best math instructor I have ever had.
Incredible teacher, 3 1/2 hour class and never even THOUGHT about sleep; the most interesting and fun teacher I've ever had. Hands down. If you are not a completely DULL person, you will LOVE him as a teacher.
Best teacher there.... worth taking a 630 pm class for!!!!
"A baby could do this", "Have you lost your Brain" "You are a goofball" The teacher that is Ansari, never has there been one like him and never will there be another. A true scholar and man of integrity, anyonewho is lucky
Professor Ansari has fun with all of his students and i have had 3 classes with him in three different Math courses. He is hard, but if you work and not be a "goofball" he will respect you. Plus he will always be there to help you life or in mat
WOW ARE THOSE HARD HARD HARD TESTS
unfortunately, I had to drop his class due to hs difficulty, however he was the fist and only teach who got me to do my homework. That takes a lot of effort and I commend the man for his warm hearted, yet difficult to understand humor towards his class.
I love this man.
good teacher: you definetly learn in his class. The funniest thing was when he threatened to kill someone in the class if they got the answer wrong.. that was great.
Dr. Ansari is HARD, but not impossible...he is a VERY GOOD teacher if you're willing to work hard.
Had him 10 yrs ago for 4 classes - EXCELLENT TEACHER - very, very hard, but you will learn!
Great guy hard as hell! Insane exams its all or nothin. "Go to the board and fly" "Use common sence, Commone sence = some tricks" "You are worse then him! You are nine feet tall and can't add!!"
Had him for Math 140, 141, 220, 230, and 251. After those classes and years with him; I walk away with a part of him with me : very nice, very smart, and always knows what he is talking about. Luck to have had him for a professor.
my best teacher yet
I can't imagine why people have given this professor a good rating. Personally he is the WORST teacher I have come across at Penn State Berks. Not because of his ability to teach, but the way he insults and berates his students. Two thumbs down
I am from "planet University Park" as Ansari would say, and he is better than almost every math professor up there. He is the best
Had him in 1997. The worst. Was not amused by his constant belittling of the students. And the class was hard.
One of my only prof's to care about the progress of the students in general. Although very hard he makes you earn everything the way it should be earned.
Unhelpful. As an adult student I will not tolerate someone that belittles me. It appears that this professor has a love/hate rapport with students. This is not the type of person a student paying hard earned money should have to deal with.
tough professor. The need to work hard in this class is well understated. If you aren't good at math, don't expect to get very far, or anything much higher than passing. World class professor, best i've ever had, extremely helpful!
Doesn't put up with crap, excuses, lateness and idiocity. Unless you show him you try your best he won't care about your grade. You show him effort he'll show you goodness. Weird sense of humor but still funny. wants you to learn and succeede
this professor is mega^2 hard. i asked to move the third exam test a day early so i have the option to drop, which i probably will. being assistant prime is not fun. he's always hurting our feelings and making us feel bad. if i were miss time keeper i would be most wonderful.
haha...if u can find anything do describe this guy, i will bow down to u and ask you teach me that course.. i hate that course.. please.. dont take him as ur professor... he is so worst as a professor. ...i wish that i pass this course so that i dont have to tolerate this guy again....
I sit in the back of his class and he constantly talks to me or about me. I am sick of this treatment, and I hope you take my advice and find another professor. His tests and attitude is unreasonable, and I don't pay hard earned money for harassment. Thank you for your time, Sincerely *****
You need to teach yourself in this course to fully understand the material. Also the exams are way to long for the time given to complete them (4X4 matrices and larger on exams). This course shouldn't be this difficult. If you want a real challnging course, take this one.
Very nasty and rude at times. Rarely shows any concern to certain students when they are having problems. All around tactless.
he's a bloody genius, but that doesn't help me much
Math 251 is a differential equations class. I managed to pass all of my calculus classes with at least a B. I will fail this class. It could be me, I may not have tried as hard as I could have this semmester. However it is an eye opener. Luckily my last math professor teaches this next semester.
WOW, I hate this guy so much. Worst teacher I have EVER had. Completely unable to communicate. He is very unhelpful. The concepts learned are not hard but somehow he makes the class impossible. He puts all the students down and makes you feel stupid everyday. Horrible! DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!!!!!!!!!
i don't recommend taking it with him.
Terrible man,My class started with about 40 and after the second test we were left with 13 remaining students and who knows how many of us passed.Def. dont miss class, one day i had a flat tire and he called my phone to tell me that i will be losing 10 percentage points b/c he thought i was skipping
HIGHLY underrated. Is one of the best professors at PSU Berks. If you're serious about math and school, take his class. If not, don't take his class, or you'll fail. Great personality once you get to know him. Expects you to do your homework before class, and justly so.
I agree.. highly underrated.. you must be serious about what you are learning.. you will learn an insane amount of math from this guy if you pay attention and truly do your homework. you must put a lot of time and effort into his classes but if you do it will really pay off!
Those who give poor ratings are those students who want an easy class and do very little work. This is college! You have to do your homework and study if you are going to do good in his class. Great personality once he gets to know you. Never a dull moment in class. Keep track of your bonus points!
DAMN this man is hard but YOU WILL LEARN WHAT HE TEACHES. I had to drop half way thru and retake 220 at UP. The whole semseter at UP i didnt learn a thing, i leanred it all in a half semester from ansari
Well, he won't do anything to help you...at all :( His tests are HARD and couldn't care less. He belittles pretty much everyone in the class. More than half of your class will fail (or drop) if you take him (we think he gets commission for drops, haha). Alikhani is hard to understand but worth it
No Comments
I couldn't stand Ansari at first. He really does belittle everyone, saying: "Freeze! Why are you late!? Stop babbling, you goof! Minus Five!"However, I realized that he is one of those profs that make or break you-The choice is really up to you, depending on how much work you are willing to take on.
Between him and Alikhani, I love the math department!
Definitely the best math prof i've ever had, but don't expect it to be easy. DO YOUR HOMEWORK!!! If you do hmwk and know your algebra and previous calc courses, you'll get the easiest A ever. Exams when i did my hmwk: 100 or more; exams when i didn't do my hmwk: less than 70. he's got a great personality too, every friday is grandson day!
Does not respect students.
Worst teacher ever.... Avoid at all costs.
dr. ansari is soooo money.
"The" worst teacher ever.... Extremely nasty and rude to students and rarely helpful, no office hours. He also teaches in a manner to which no one can relate of understand. Shaparenko is far superior to him in terms of helpfulness...

Rude! Worst professor ever. I'm not a baby...n i therefore apparently cant get calc
Very unfair teacher... Does not grade fairly on anything. Is never around to help during office hours... Avoid, go for Shaparenko!!!!!
I have had Prof. Ansari for two classes now and have done bad in both. He dosen't respect students at all! His teaching skills are deffinatelly nowhere near his math skills. I highly recommend trying to get a class with Ms. Shaparenko.
Definitely the best math prof i've ever had, but don't expect it to be easy. DO YOUR HOMEWORK!!! If you do hmwk and know your algebra and previous calc courses, you'll get the easiest A ever.
He is what I expected college to be like, except his strict attentence policy. attention to detail is a must
I had Dr. Ansari for several calc classes in 92/93. Dr. Ansari's classes are not easy and he has very high standards. He attempts to approximate the reality of working professionally - there are CONSEQUENCES for inattention to detail. If you can't handle the stress of his teaching style, you should reconsider working as an engineer or scientist.
assumes we remember everything from previous classes , we should know these things but refreshing of the material wouldnt take long and would raise scores, I recommend alikani or shap
Ignore the crybabies. Ansari is the "New York, New York" of professors - if you can make it there, you can make it anywhere. He starts out as tough but fair. Once all the whiny future business majors have dropped out, he flips the switch and becomes an ideal professor: helpful, clear, funny. He loves math & he loves his (hard-working) students.
"FREEZE!...UR LAAAAAAATE!!!"this guy is really loud lol. He's MONEY though.Solves tonnes of problems on the board.Sometimes doesn't explain some of the material that appears on the test but then he ends up giving everyone 5 points to make up for for his mess up.
he's the hardest grader out there. If u have one ****ing mistake he cancels the whole page out
"Why are you crying?" Dr. Ansari is by far the most effective teacher I have ever had. Stop being a baby and man up. Getting an A in his class will be one of the most satisfying events in your life.
This guy is fairly unhelpful. When I went to his office-hours for help...he called me "stupid."
Extremely
failed second time around. guy is crazy hard grader
This is by far the hardest class I have ever taken. If you pass his class, it's quite an accomplishment, if you can get an A in his clas, consider yourself a god among men.
fun class
Great Man, with great personality and high expectations for his students! A man of integrity and honor. Very smart and knowledgeable and proud.
second time around i got a D learn to speak english. he talks to fast to understand and he just goes on and on. not helpful penn state berks is horrible with math teachers.
I will be taking MATH 230 with Dr. Ansari in Spring 2008. I've heard the horror stories from sophomores and graduates alike. I don't believe he's a bad guy. He wants you to succeed, but he has the mindset that since a mistake in the real world could cost lives, he doesn't award much partial credit. Study hard and you will make it through his class.
This guy is not worth your time or money. He is rude and that kind of attitude will not help u learn a thing. His tests are ok but he is never around to help you out. He really made my 3 and a half months a nightmare. GET SOMEONE ELSE!!!!!!
Fairly clear, covers material well. Keep class interesting. Very hard grader and tests can be challenging but not unreasonable.
Avoid him at all costs. He favor certain students and it does reflect in your grades. His lectures are reasonably clear but is a VERY hard grader on exams. Very rarely do you get partial credit on problems. He constantly insults his students and has a strict attendance policy, 30sec late and don't count on being let in. Good luck.
Dr. Ansari's class will make or break you. Respect him, address him as Dr. Ansari or "sir". Don't talk, sleep or come late to class. DO NOT CHEW GUM in class. If he is incorrect with something, be sure you are right then correct him, he will thank you. All these negative reviews are because they didn't study. He's a great professor. Recommended.
The key to not letting him get to you is simple submission. If you try to maintain the "I have rights, dammit." attitude, he will hate you. When he scolds you, admit your fault and say you are sorry, after he says something to you say "Yes sir." Don't be weak, take his criticisms and insults like a man (or brave woman).
Dr. Ansari is strict and isn't EASY, but he's definitely not difficult. I barely worked at all for his MATH 230 class and walked out with a B. Spent my finals week playing poker instead of doing math.
I had him for two semesters. He wastes a lot of time, proves none of his assertions, and presents difficult material too fast and easy material too slowly. Instead of preparing for most of his classes he demands that the students ask questions out of the book for him to solve. I got good grades, but I would never want to have this professor again.
Seems to have an attitude of extreme elitist ****baggery. Consistently insults students for various mistakes. Skips numerous steps, rushes through difficult material while coasting through simple. Ignores syllabus; forces every problem for each of three sections as homework for the next morning (6-week summer course).
I HIGHLY suggest you don't take the 6 week summer version. I did nothing else for 6 weeks other than calc. Exams aren't difficult, problems on the exam are straight from the book or given in class, no tricks. He hands out extra credit like it's going out of style for stuff like doing problems on the board. He will call you "a stupid idiot"
His test is unreasonably hard. The questions on them are not represent vie of the problems from the home work and in class. No partial credit on test if the final answer isn?t right he just crosses it out and doesn?t look at it. Plays favorites among his student tend to give people he likes bonus points for things like erasing the chalk board.
He is a cool guy when you get to know him, but he will stop at nothing to try to scare you off on the first few days. Just study, and you should make it out of the class alight, but probably with a lower grade than you would have hoped for.
The material is hard as it is seem and he makes them a little clear. Only downer is he is a little out there with remarks. Need to make the exams more define and clear. Its easy but unclear. But not bad.
Please DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME TAKING CLASSES with this moron! He can't teach, and is mean to everyone! Forget about his office hours also, he's never there. He's driving his black BMW around the parking lot trying to be cool! 95% of the student body hates you! Please stop teaching so more people will learn something instead of wasting tuition
Is really hard and mean at first but then tends to lighten up a bit after most of the business majors drop. Tends to work out only the easy questions in the homework then puts the hardest questions he can think of on the exam. If he's actually around for his office hours be prepared to be yelled at and called an idiot.
Ass. Had him for the 6-week summer class. All I did was do calc all week. Goes over harder, abstract problems than what is on the test so you don't really get all that much use to test type questions. Gives out a lot of extra credit in class but tends to pick favorites who end up with 15+ points while others have less than 5. Try for Alikhani.
He doesnt care at all about his students and ridiclues and humiliates them. He also teaches horribly and speeds through the course material with little care for how well the stufents understand it.
Dr Anasari is not that bad once you get to know him but for the first month he will problably scare the**** out of you. His class are hard he makes linear algebra seem like diff Q, more than half the class failed. But he does try to curve stuff and is not totally unresonable.
He's cool to talk to. He will crack you up with some of the stuff he says.
I always had 100 in math, but got a B with him. Doesn't explain anything just solves the problems, and expects you to know how he got the answer. Great person, BAD teacher. If I knew him before I had to take class with him, I would take it with someone else. Calls some people Idiots, others Mr/Ms Wonderful. He was really funny most of the time
he put material on the test that he said would not be, he not only yells at you when your wrong he makes it so you stop liking math all together.
Very challenging. Do the homework even if it is not graded or else you will have regrets when the exams come. Try to avoid him if you are sensitive to insults, he might make you cry. But you will feel great if you survive a class with him because he teaches you a lot, even if you don't realize it at the time.
Very Very tough teacher. will not give you half points if you made a small mistake. he normally can rate people quickly, and makes fun of some people, and leaves others alone. very helpful if you ever need to email him or get ahold of him. he will try to get you a good grade, you must know math like you know the back of your hand. no excuses.
He is tough calculus is tough. He will test you and perhaps break you. You will have to dedicate yourself to his class. He is kindhearted to those who truly care and give full effort, he shows no mercy for the ones that don't. His grading is very harsh. He will jokingly taunt you (take your insults and shut it). Only the strong minded should apply.
Sometimes his lecture moves a little fast, but make sure to ask questions to slow the pace of his notes. Follow the rules, be a good student, and his class will be a joy to attend. He is very funny. Don't take this class if you can't take a joke at your expense, because he is never seriously being mean, though it may seem that way.
A really great teacher. You need to realize he plays by certain rules, and as long as you follow them, he'll like you. Certainly not an easy teacher, but his notes are clear and he'll do a lot of examples if asked.
Dr. Ansari. 15 years ago. I still have nightmares. "Even a baby could do this!" He's tough but fair - very fair. If you want to understand calculus, take his class. He is the best and most memorable teacher I have ever had. He has a passion for math and it shows. Take this class.
If you are not willing to work you don't deserve to be in his class. You have to truly earn your grade so quit your complaining, this is college and your grades aren't just given to you, you earn them. So work hard and you'll see how intelligent you really are.
Excellent teacher. Maybe a bit rough-edged in manner but that's incidental to his expectations that students will work hard. If you are diligent in studying then he's great with you.
Full class at start of 60 students. Down to under 30 in first month. Course has 30% pass rate excluding drops = 9 students out of 60. Math 141 has lowest average GPA of all courses at Penn State Berks. Recommend taking math courses elsewhere.
He's probably my favorite professor at Berks, he has a great personality and will help you out when you need it. As long as you do your work and pay attention you should be fine. Although you may need to do a lot of work for the class if you do not understand the material, but in the words of Ansari "It's so easy a baby could do it!"
He's probably my favorite professor at Berks, he has a great personality and will help you out when you need it. As long as you do your work and pay attention you should be fine. Although you may need to do a lot of work for the class if you do not understand the material, but in the words of Ansari "It's so easy a baby could do it!"
He follows rigid and straightforward methods for each topic that are very easy to understand. People say he is a disrespectful guy; but after being in his class for a semester, I got to think that he is the teacher in Berks who cares about his students the most. He wants you to do good, but you have to work very hard and do your part.
Dr. Ansari is a great guy. Try to get on his good side, and definitely do your work- every single homework problem he gives. If you don't have time to do a lot of work outside of class for this course, do not take it. He is in no means an easy professor, but he is very helpful and really funny.
I've had Dr Ansari for three classes. He is by far the BEST professor I have ever had. You should all take his class even if it's not for your major. He is absolutely wonderful. He is by no means an easy professor, you will have to work very hard. Totally worth it, take his class!!
Math 141 is extremely difficult but Dr. Ansari does a great job teaching it! He is very funny and gives very thorough notes. If you don't understand something, you can go to his office to get extra help. All of his test questions come from the notes or the homework, so as long as you do your homework and study the notes, you will be fine.
Math 141 was difficult but Dr. Ansari is alwasy happy to help. He keeps class interesting too.
Before taking this class, I was apprehensive because of the negative ratings on here, but Dr. Ansari knows what he's talking about and is more than willing to help. He wants you to succeed. The class is a lot of work, but if you attend class, do the homework problems, ask questions, and study the lecture notes and homework you will be fine.
Dr. Ansari is very full of himself and comes across as rude. I would not recommend taking his class.
This is a fantastic man who seriously cares about his students. Yes he is loud and may seem rude, but you will figure out he is kidding eventually. He has a great sense of humor, and I promise you that you will NEVER have another professor quite like him. No his class isn't easy, but Calculus isn't meant to be easy. Highly recommend.
he is an amazing teacher. though his class is not easy, he does everything he can to help his syudents succeed. he is tremendously funny, though it may sound rude, he means well. he is very devoted to his students.
I earned an A- in Calc I and it meant nothing when I took Dr. Ansari's class. He is extremely intelligent, but does not convey the information in a good way. I would recommend taking the class elsewhere/different prof.
He does not explain anything well at all! He also gets mad at you if you ask a serious question. He seems very stuck on himself and he gives NO partial credit.DO NOT TAKE!
Dr. Ansari's class was very difficult, but he is always willing to help you if you are actually working hard and treat him with respect. He seems brusque sometimes, but he's usually just kidding.
Let's face it. Calc is hard but Ansari truly does care about his students. He is willing to work with you if you're struggling. He is a great teacher. You truly do work for the grade you receive in his class.
He gives no partial credit, makes several mistakes in his notes, and just makes for an uncomfortable class room. If you have the chance, take any other professor.
Dr. Ansari is an intelligent professor, he knows what he's doing. His tests are hard, on 3 exams this semester each had a class avg of 57%, 64%, and a 62% respectively. He does not give any partial credit. Unfortunately he is the only professor who teaches MATH 251 at Berks so good luck.
Entertaining in class but doesn't explain anything. The class average on 3 exams were below failing but he waited until after the late drop date to tell the class there would be a curve. Go to office hours if you want to know what's going on in class because he doesn't announce anything.
Don't act cocky, talk back, write neatly, and does as he directs you to. The smallest things things can set him off and put him in a terrible mood which makes for a very awkward and stressful environment. If you truly don't understand what he is teaching then ask him and he will help you but don't ask stupid questions about algebra or something.
Amazing at presenting the coursework in a very easy-to-understand fashion. He gives you everything you need to succeed, you just have to put in the work. Tough grader on exams, so pay attention to the details. A little bit full of himself at times, but he is still one of my favorite professors at berks. Too bad this is his last year.
Dr. Ansari is the best math prof at Berks! He does make you work for your grade, but he is always willing to help and he cares. Don't let him intimidate you and ask questions in class! He does give partial credit on tests (the rumor that he doesn't is false) and he makes the 2 hour lecture entertaining. Can't wait to take him again for Math 230!
Ansari is probably the best math professor at Berks. You will be successful in this class as long as you put in the time outside of class. He gives you all of the information that you need to be successful, and will help you if you seek him out. Make sure your calculus, trig, and algebra fundamentals are strong bc he won't answer dumb questions.
Dr. Ansari is a very good Professor. He has dry humor which can be tough on some students. He expects you to be fluent in past math courses so be ready to recall skills from your past courses. He is very understanding and wants you succeed in his course. Contrary to what students say on here, he does give partial credit and many bonus points!
Best math teacher at Berks! But be warned, if you show up late or dont do your homework, he will fail you! All of his quizzes and exams are open-book and open-note). The exams are generally not that tough if you know the concepts. He provides extra credit and a decent curve on each exam.
Initially, Professor Ansari seemed harsh, however, after a few weeks he really was an amazing professor. Prepare to work hard and participate in class, he does not want slackers in his class. He gives many quizzes and other extra credit opportunities as he really does have his students in his best interests.
Please don't take him, save yourself!
Ansari leaves me conflicted. He is extremely harsh and brutal in the beginning but once over 1/3 of the class drops he is very generous about grades. He is very strict about his rules in the class so BE ON TIME, DO NOT USE YOUR PHONE, AND MOST OF ALL DO NOT TALK BACK TO HIM! Just sit down and learn at HIS FAST PACE. You will learn if you keep up.
He makes class interesting by yelling loudly. A little unfair with grading IMO. Some kid got a 5% and didn't deserve a 5% . If you have never thought about being an idiot before, just raise your hand.
Dont take him, even if you say I study Ill be fine, Ansari will screw you, he makes mistakes not stop and it shows all over his notes. Then when it comes to the test he expects a perfect or you get a O% . I had a 97.8% going into his final and finish with a C+ as my final grade. Hes an awful graded with zero partial credit and a bad teacher
Unhelpful. Insults you harshly. Goes thru lectures way too rapidly. Only grades are the tests, which he makes way harder than the material being taught. Does no partial credit. I Have a 3.5 gpa & spent multiple hrs a day studying, but had to drop this class. Unfortunately hes the only 251 prof on campus so i suggest commuting somewhere else for 251
He insults students so much I never raised my hand. If you ask him a question that isn't a perfect correction of his notes he'll either insult you or ignore you, it's very frustrating. I dreaded going to every class. If you can avoid him by any means, do it. I hear he's a little better in lower level math classes, but I think he's the worst prof
He goes through material extremely quickly, so sometimes it's hard to keep up, but once you get a feel for how he teaches his classes are pretty straightforward.
I learned a lot and I enjoyed Prof Ansari.
He lectures way too fast. The only grades in the class are tests, no homework. He makes the test questions way more challenging than anything he goes over in class and doesn't give partial credit. He's also very rude and condescending. I had to drop the class because it was impossible even with a tutor! Overall, he's just a terrible professor.
Dr Ansari has a few rules for his students: attend lectures, study the lecture notes, and pay attention in class. He was a fun professor to take and really makes you work for your grade. Extra credit is given out in class and there is usually a large curve to the test because they are quite difficult and there are no "easy" questions on his tests.
He isn't the best professor for this course. He humiliates you if you have a doubt in front of the whole class. Not helpful at all. Do not take this course with him !!
