Dont listen to that guy. He is the worst professor ever!! He mumbles and in comparision with other profs his quizzes and tests are much harder.
pretty straightforward if you read your notes and such. there isn't really need for the textbook either if you take notes.
he is not teaching math 251...
easy and straightforward class if you take his notes, there's no need to do questions or to get a textbook either. i had him for math251 last year and the only problem was that his scale sucked compared to the other profs. Uh, you think that he's unclear? Try Stastna
You will fall asleep in the class but you must stay awake to take the notes. His teaching is not clear but doing his lab is a very good practice. He will give you practice exams which are similar to the real exam. So it is not hard to get an A in this class if you take all the notes and do the lab.
Just average, high school math notes are probably better than his, and he explains the same stuff differently from high school; sometimes easier, sometimes more complicated. Not that great, but I doubt there's any better teachers in the math dept. than him.
You have to work really hard to do well in his class. His notes are not clear so read the book before and after class. His quizzes are extremely hard and the TA even sometimes doesnt know how to do it! Do all the practice questions and dont expect that doing all this, youll get a great mark. His exams are really hard!!
I'm not even good at math and I got an A+, he is not a hard teacher at all, he gives you worksheets with answers and also gives practice midterms and finals that are basically the exact same questions you will see on the real tests with the exception of the #'s used. He is a fine teacher, a little confusing sometimes because material goes so fast.
Easy course! Notes aren't so great and dont always follow the book. During class, its like he's talking to himself so try your best to hear and stay awake. Exams and quizzes are fair, he gives out practice ones with solutions that are identical to the exams. Examples in class are also on tests. 80% of the class got A's, lowest C. I got a B+ :(
Tests were nothing like what was taught in class
The class is the easiest class you'll ever take in your life.
He replaced SNIATYCKI and took over...his quizes are easy!...But then i the final came...hard ahs hell, His final question make you think outside the box so be very paraniod or prepared!
Really nice guy teaching a crappy course. His lectures weren't too interesting, but he got the point across. He always told us exactly what types of problems were going to show up on the quizzes and tests, even the final, and the questions themselves were reasonably easy.
took this class just because it fit my timetable, but ended up becoming interested in linear algebra! aiffa is very clear and concise in class, understand the material, go to the tutorials and do the practice questions, quizzes/midterm/final were all reasonable, with some effort, an A is definitely attainable.
Really approachable and helpful prof. He'll tell you exactly what is going to be on every quiz and exam. Highly recommended.
Horrible lectures, will copy formulas out of the textbook and write them on the board. He barely does any examples and even those are the very basic ones. However i will agree he is very helpful if go to his office. I would say take holland or elsabrouty instead.
Very helpful prof but class was boring and the notes did not really help in studying. The class was only easy because most people have already taken a calculus course beforehand, so this was like a repeat. Quizzes are relatively easy, the midterm was easy as well, the final was a bit challenging but manageable.
He's very monotone when he teaches. He's very approachable and very friendly. However, his quizes are extremely long. But the questions are fair.
I loved this class despite not being a "math person". Aiffa kept the material very simple and the course followed a logical order. He was very approachable and helpful in his office hours as well.
Talks too quietly, mumbles to himself what he's saying. I've learnt alright from him though.
Awesome prof. The first prof of my university career. Over the past 4 years I would rate him as one of the coolest profs ever. Easy, clear. To get a good mark, just do the assigned problems, quizzes, assignments and then you will be good.
He is an alright proffesor. His score is helped by the fact that it is a review course and fairly easy overall. If you do all the assignments and come to all the lectures it should be an easy B+.
He's vanilla. Pretty good if you're not demanding since he's clear and well organized. Although he isn't as cool as some of the other profs, if you get Aiffa, It'll be okay...... he erases the board in a very entertaining fashion...
He's a good prof with precise notes and clear lecture style. Although not one of the more interesting or passionate teachers, he is nonetheless a great prof. Vanilla!
he is a great proffessor, he goes above and beyond to help the students. His notes are awsome, the only notes that I study them for the final for other courses I rather study the book. If you have him, just got to the lecture and no matter what write down the notes.
Aiffa is a great prof! He highlight the important concepts and equations in the first 10 minutes of class, so you have an understanding of what's going on, and then he goes on and talk about what he writes. You can takes his note and example as a study guid, and if you still don't understand, you can go to his office. His there most of time!
does not understand english very well
Excellent teacher, great notes and a very subtle sense of humor
A great prof for summer Math353. Very clear notes, UNDERSTANDS English very well. Do his posted homework problems, didn't use text at all. Quizzes, midterm and final was way easier than homework problems.
he is doin a great work.
Very good professor. Clear notes, very intelligent. You will likely have to practice to get a good grade, but the course is not unusually difficult.
This man is awesome, that's all there is to say about that.
Switch to Elsabrouty's class -- he is fairly convoluted in class.
Makes really good notes and its in your best interest to review constantly. Summer class is a bit fast. Watch out for the midterm, it was way harder than practice! In his words, "Quizzes are meant to bring up your average". Tutorials can be a waste of time if you get someone with half a brain. Overall, good prof!
In my opinion, one of the best professors I ever had. He is usually soft spoken, which is why sit in front of the class so you could hear better to what he is saying. The midterm was somewhat brutal, but the quizzes were fairly straight forward. If you study your notes regularly, getting a high mark in this class isnt very hard. This prof, is alway
You have to be stupid to not do well in his class...Seriously, he makes everything super easy and he gives you what will be on the quizzes! He is amazing!!! Definitely recommend him as a prof!!!
He's okay. Good notes, understandable lectures, pretty reasonable exams. Webworks were impossible. You get out what you put in, and I didnt put my all in to the class.
He's pretty good and knows what he is teaching. His notes amazingly detailed and are great for reviewing or even teaching yourself, if you just jot them down and don't bother to listen in to him in class. Didn't buy the textbook, his notes make the perfect one :) He's not the fastest out there but he's really detailed n easy to understand
Awesome teacher. Theory junkie, but if you think about it enough you will get the problems. He does examples, and does go overtime a bit. Overall he is a good professor.
he is really good and very nice
Great professor! He made a hard class very easy to understand. His notes are great and he goes through a lot of examples. Examples are very similar to his tests so there aren't any surprises. Best prof I've ever had in university!
Way to much theory, rarely does examples.
like the post above me, he's not good for 307. spends 40 mins on theory, remaining 10 mins on examples. every single lecture.
Spends the entire class doing theory and then will do maybe one example. Avoid if you can
Very bad, does way to much theory and will rewrite the same stuff multiple times. He makes an easy course hard
This was a first year calculus course, mainly for engineers. Class is easy if you've taken Math 31, or equivalents in HS. Aiffa speaks rather quietly in his lectures, but is very approachable and helpful if asked; he's respectful and has a sense of humour. Textbook is really useless at this level, but code for Math XL is mandatory.
If you have him, then get ready to take some insane amount of notes. His notes are clear, but VERY VERY long. And people complaining about examples; That is what WebWork is for. Overall he is a decent prof but his notes tend to be quite repetitive and unnecessary long. He is also a bit monotone so you will need some coffee to keep yourself awake.
He is one of the best profs I've ever had!! His notes are very clear and helpful. He focuses on theory because it's part of what we get tested on for the midterm and the final.. Definitely Recommended!!
Aiffa is seriously one of the best profs I've ever had. Although his notes consist alot of theory, they really help you understand the problem so much better. Very approachable during his office hours. If you read your notes and do lots of practice questions you'll do fine in his class. :)
Teacher made class very boring and his notes added very little value. Stopped attending mid semester and focused on learning from the textbook. Would explicitly state which concepts were tested on each quiz (ex. "the first quiz question is on x the second question is on Y). Not too hard but definitely not easy
I attended lectures up until the midterm and usually did not attend class after that point. It's only worth attending the days before a test because he states what is on the them. The quizzes are really easy but you have to put in some serious work for the midterm and final. His midterm and final use a multiple choice format, quiz are long answer
He will sometimes spend too much time on the theories, which has little use on the exams. Look over examples in the lab if you want to practice the concepts he taught in the lectures. Overall, a fairly decent math prof and an easy course if you put in a bit of effort.
Dr. Aiffa is a smart man, he spends A LOT of time on theory more than what we need. But in general is a great professor to have for AMAT.
Okay. He is the BEST!!!!! Math prof I ever had in my life. He is just too good he explains stuff like its the easiest thing in the world. And you actually understand! Even the hardest and the most confusing concepts which none of my older math profs were able to clarify he just explains them too damn well!!!!!
100% agree with the person below. Aiffa is the one you want. Studied one day for the final still got an A ..... .... .
For 307 He was the course coordinator and he did go a bit slower with the material than intended. But it was a good thing because he explains every topic very thoroughly and the best thing is he would summarize almost every method with basically a step by step guide to solving! It was awesome! but the text book became hardly ever useful in his lec.
Explains things clearly. He writes notes on whiteboards only, so if you miss anything you'll have to ask another student. He has very little office hours. Exams are made to trick you.
Great Prof!! Writes and explains things clearly!!
Great prof! Gives good examples
good prof. but he can be hard to understand sometimes because he focuses so much on the theory. his examples are great and the exams are fair. make sure you go to the tutorials and focus on the assignments. he is a really nice guy and wants you to succeed.
Best calculus professor I've ever been taught by.
He gets the job done. Good but not great instruction. Definitely a prof to take a class with. Sit at the front though, he's really quiet.
Pros: easy quizzes, homework sheets are very helpful, explains things to a great extent, quirky sense of humor. Cons: mumbles and talks quietly into the board, goes very slow in lectures then crams assignments into a short time frame, webwork assignments are much harder than any test question, tests are harder than quizzes
Great Prof, good examples, good pace, lots of review. Just make sure to sit near the front because he is quiet.
a great prof.
THE BEST PROF EVER
This prof knows his stuff. He has excellent notes and explains excellently. Just make sure you do not talk in class as this irritates him.
Excellent Prof. Took this course during the Spring and it was taught very well. Quizzes were easy as prof would tell you exactly what was on it. Midterm/Final was a bit harder, so more studying was required for those. Instruction was great with excellent examples and well written notes.
Good professor but focuses a lot on theory. So can be very boring at times.
Pretty mediocre, I've had much better calculus professors. Quizzes are easy but the actual tests are very difficult. Spends a lot of time rewriting complex and abstract theory that is hard to understand.
He is a very good proff. It can be a very hard course so you cant take it lightly. Very helpful.
This was my eighth class in math at the u of c and Dr. Aiffa has been by far the most effective prof I've had to the point he makes any math text seem obsolete if you are attending his lectures. Theory is developed in an exhaustive but succinct manner in class, well-supplemented with examples. Course is well organised to challenge and reward effort
Takes clear, concise notes with a good mix of theory and examples that makes this course easy to study for. Would recommend.
Lectures are very clear. Sometimes mumbles to himself when explaining an example. But overall a good prof.
He's a nice guy but focuses more on theory then the important stuff. Provides insufficient amount of examples and expects you to complete a hard assignment. Quizzes and Midterm were fair but the hardest part of the course is the last 2 weeks of lectures. This is where he didn't do a good job.
Aiffa is the greatest AMAT prof I've ever had. His notes are great and he covers everything you need to know well and in depth.
I took AMAT 219 with him in my first year and loved him, despite not doing too well since I did nothing. He's very grandfatherly and instantly likable but he mumbles a bit. He makes everything seem deceptively easy. Defs my fave prof in the math department. Go to lectures, do the homework sheets, and you'll do fine!
Very, very quiet
His lectures are very dry and confusing. If you want a good grade, go to all of the lectures and labs and read all of the textbook chapters. Lots of work, don't expect to relax in this class.
Never. Never taking a lecture with this guy. He writes something on the board and turn back to the whole class with an evil smile. He knows that he wrote some BS and obviously we didn't get any of it.
The man deserves some serious credit for the amazing notes he writes. they are hand written and he struggles with technology at times but they really clarify every aspect of a topic (sometimes explains topics for too long if you already understand it)almost always does an in class example that parallels questions on midterms and finals.
I bombed this course, first of all, but Dr. Aiffa is very helpful and supportive, and not at all to blame. He writes only handwritten notes however, none of which are posted online. My only problem with this class what that his examples were not of comparable difficulty to any of the assignments or exams. Besides this, he's a wonderful professor.
While you definitely needed to put in a lot of effort into studying and completing assignments he was a good lecturer if a little bit disorganized. Made up for it by being very available outside of class to answer specific questions and help you work through individual problems. If you did the assignments, and the hw it was an easy pass.
I had a different prof for Math 249 and he was awesome. This guy is very nice but not a solid lecturer. Hard to understand, uses hand written notes that can't be read.
Had a hard time understanding him and his lectures were unorganized.
Nice guy, knows calc inside and out. Prof gives very detailed notes but only 65% or so are useful. He spends a lot of time doing proofs, which is useless for a large percentage of the students in the class. Examples in notes, homework, tutorials and exams are brutally hard. Go to every lab, tutorial and OH you can cuz this class is very very hard.
Dr. Aiffa is a pretty good professor that is always there if you need help. He wasted a lot of time in class with proofs but overall he got the message across. This course was not easy especially since I haven't done calculus for 2 years but if you work hard, you can get a decent grade. The second midterm was brutal but the final was difficult.
Aiffa was very friendly and organised. His notes were clear and detailed, however, lacked examples. A lot of theory - which is okay if you're good at understanding theory and applying it, but not so good if you just need to go through examples to get the method. Overall, the class is hard as heck, but Aiffa does his best to get you through.
This class was damn hard to pass, Aiffa mumbles so much that you would have the best nap in lecture. He gives really nice notes but examples were too easy and exams are way too hard
For one of the hardest classes ive ever taken Prof Aiffa makes it no easier by mumbling to himself every lecture while he spits out useless theorems and toy examples during which you decide what is more difficult, staying awake or understanding what the heck is going on. Needs to cover more complicated examples and talk with clarity.
The dude seriously can't stop mumbling, every lecture is a perfect time for a good nap. He was so slow and some materials at the end of the term weren't covered. His notes are amazing but in class examples lack difficulty in order to prepare for midterms or final exam. Seek him in office hour if you can and do textbook questions
He turned this into something completely ridiculous. Literally tested on concepts that we have never seen. Our profs couldn't believe his marking schemes and felt bad themselves. Class averages for the easiest math course ranged from 50-60. What should be a GPA boost quickly lowered once Aiffa decided to coordinate. Bring back Trelford. AVOID!
Super amazing Prof. His hand written notes are incredibly neat which is much better than a lot of other professors. The concept are easy to learn if you review the notes. Really helpful and always available during his office hours. The homework is really similar to the stuff on the test so make sure to do it.
I tried hard to enjoy this class, but it was so boring and I was constantly disappointed. Dr. Aiffa lacks enthusiasm, is very quiet, and is not very approachable or helpful. I don't think he meant it, but he made me feel stupid on several occasions. He seems like a decent guy, and obviously knows math, but I would avoid him in the future.
He's a decent prof and helpful. He doesn't give many examples, notes are mostly theory. The midterm and final are tough so you do need to put in effort to get a decent grade. Don't even need the textbook, they put up a lot of worksheets, practice tests and webwork.
Funny guy, had lots of examples and definitely knew his stuff. Don't buy the textbook!!!! Tests are very fair. Spoke quietly so would recommend sitting near the front
Avoid Dr. Aiffa if you can, his lectures are awful and he always draws useless graphs that don't help with anything and plus no one can understand him because he's always talking to himself or seems confused at times. Using the textbook and YouTube videos works as the test are fair and not too bad if doing alot of practice problems.
Explains things very clearly. Slow, but clearly. Reserved but sassy. Never leaves examples unfinished. Will prepare you for the tests, but this class does NOT prepare you for 267, you've been warned!
Dr. Aiffa was very good with differential equations and his worksheets were very helpful for the midterm and final. His lectures aren't the best but his examples and notes are incredible.
I straight up suck at calculus, barely passing MATH 265. With Aiffa it was very very easy to understand concepts from Calc II. He talks very softly and at times sounds as if he's talking gibberish. He gives many examples to topics making them easier to understand. Problem that occurred for me was remembering formulas, equivalents, and doing algebra
Not a bad prof, but moved almost painfully slow throughout examples. Also did a lot of redundant demonstrations as well. IDK how many times I heard him say "you won't need to know this for the exam", and then continue on with the half an hour example... Cracked the occasional joke during lecture which was fun. Email reply expectancy is 50% though
Good prof, very specific about what you need to know in order to succeed.
although he has a boring tone, his notes, practice sheets and webwork will give you an easy A.. this course in general requires practice and most of his tests were just different numbers than the actual practice questions/webwork/lecture examples. DONT BUY THE TEXTBOOK. the ta's for this course are also super helpful!
Aiffa is the GOAT when it comes to having excellent notes. He is a bit boring to listen to, but if you do the worksheet problems, and read his notes thoroughly and ask questions you will SUCCEED in any of his courses. He teaches phenomenally well. He is slightly sarcastic and cheeky which made lectures hilarious.
Aiffa has a very dry sarcastic humour that makes class and office hours very enjoyable. Don't buy text as he gives one for free. Do take online notes, do the worksheets and the assignments. He explains concepts very well when one on one for extra help. TA's teach contrary to the way he does, so I do not recommend tutorials. Has good office hours.
Hard class. Good notes. Lecture is just rewritting the notes and reading them outloud. Thanks....
Dr. Aiffa was all right but the lectures were boring. His notes are good, the assignments are brutal and the tests are okay. Do extra practice and follow the notes somehow and you'll do okay!
Ok prof.
Lectures are a must attend, however he is extremely quiet and super boring. Since he posts full notes your best bet is not to take notes in class, but to just pay attention and follow along. Use the pre-exam quizzes, assignments and especially tutorial problems to prepare for his exams.
He's a kind guy, sometimes cracks a few jokes here and there, and explains the material well, maybe a little too much... but is monotone and his lectures are overall pretty boring.
Professor Aiffa is one of the best math profs i have ever had. he is clear and organized. his notes are BEAUTIFUL and he is very approachable. Great and highly recommend taking math 211 with I'm if you can!
He needs to fire his grader. Grader cannot see when an answer equates to what instructor gave in answer sheet. He is lazy. Won't post homework until last minute. won't give solutions because he is too "busy". Won't post notes promptly because he is so "busy". Needs a serious reminder that he provides a paid for service.
His jokes are about his being unable to provide students with tools required to succeed. Inappropriate. Waits until last minute to post notes, homework nd practiced final/midterms. Disconnect between lecture, assignments and exams.
I think this is Dr. Aiffa's first time teaching 211 in the spring in a while so lectures were kinda rush. It takes him some time to post up the worksheet (and solutions) and notes which is not ideal for the fast pace of spring. He gives lots of examples in his notes, but personally found his explanations to be sometimes wordy and hard to understand
He does talk alot, but if you sit in the front participate and listen you will understand everythibg you need to know. His assignments are an easy A as you get 5 attempts for most questions. If you do all the worksheet questions and ask questions often you will ace this course.
Cares alot about his students. Always joking around. Never seen him frown.
He's so quiet that he basically mumbles to himself during his lectures to the extent where he is barely audible. Moreover, his notes are very confusing with long winded explainations. Very rude and unhelpful outside of class.
his midterm was the hardest calculus exam i've ever done, also he never replies to his emails, take the class in spring for your own sake.
Worst calculus class.. most of the class failed his midterm and he pretended that its okay and ignored us all, he also never replies to emails and when he finally do he says its too late and we should've emailed sooner!!!!! .. His lectures makes no sense and he literally talks to himself most of the time! .. take the class in spring if u wanna pass
Went a bit too fast with his lectures at times, and is also quiet. However, his teaching style follows that of Elsabrouty, where you may learn from the notes no problem. A funny guy at times with some dry humour. The midterm was absolutely brutal, but he made made it up to us by giving the easiest final in years, in addition to scaling the course.
Worst prof. Doesnt care about students, wont spend any extra min with you unless you insist. Not helpful, not accessible even you made appointment with him, he skips them. And you use some proof technique he doesnt know, he wont even google it, just give you zero
he's a fairly good prof, has pretty thorough and complete notes. my only complaints are that he spends too much time writing proofs that we don't need, causing us to be way behind the other class. he also doesn't respond very well to questions, usually laughing at students who ask them, and only sometimes responds to emails.
If you learn well by having good notes then Aiffa will be a great prof for you. However, if you learn by having the prof teach in class, it's probably better you attend a different lecture. He's super quiet, mumbles to himself a lot and does not explain things well in class. Overall, still a decent prof for 375.
Criminally underrated. One of the best profs I've ever had l.
Notes are alright, neat/organized and posts them on d2l which is convenient. However, his lectures are dull and boring. The final was a joke! He puts only 20 questions all MC(same length as midterm so 82% of the course) for an EXAM WORTH 50%. That means one small mistake on a question, u get it wrong and that makes a big difference in ur grade.
Doesn't have time to put up a practice midterm. Doesn't have time to answer emails. Doesn't have time to provide solutions to the tutorial worksheets. "I don't have time" is seemingly his answer to everything. Save YOUR time and take this class with a different prof.
Dr. Aiffa is one of the best profs I've ever had. His teaching style is thorough and if focused in class (which isn't hard) it's an easy A. He gives tons of examples, and writes notes out clearly with a bit of extra explanation - writing down those side tidbits is also really helpful. He's funny too and it was a joy to take this course with him!
Seemingly nice guy has a dry sense of humour. if you don't like hand written notes you will hate this. Spent most of my time in the tutorial centre getting help. Very behind and refused to teach related rates. Doesn't care about this class at all. Nobody knew what was going on at all. Class average for midterm 1 was 55%.
He is a senior Instructor but he forget the date of our midterm and final. No practice final question because he don't have time post it. No assignment and midterm feedback. Never reply email because he don't have reply. After final test we still not get assignemnt3 and 4 mark and feedback. He shouldn't have this job. Will never take his course.
This man really gave a final exam with content that was never before seen and obnoxiously difficult, all while claiming it was "designed to be completed in 2 hours". Not one student did as good as they thought they would have in the course. Exams are supposed to be a method of showing how much you learned in the class, not just an excuse to fail.
Poorly adapted to teach in 2020. Technology illiterate. Lectures only involved reading notes. During the D2L midterm, he set the wrong duration and tried fixing it while the exam began. This gave students the wrong timer, and many exceeded the time. He was forced to give a rewrite, but made no apology. Hes oblivious to his incompetence.
Dr. Aiffa is a very disorganized professor, he said our final would have 24 questions but only had 20 and our midterm would have 20 but had 18 questions. His homework set is phenomenal for understanding material and concepts, because adds a short summary of each concept in the answer key of the homework set. I WOULD HAVE FAILED THE FINAL WIHOUT IT.
The entire course was learnt by yourself through reading/ watching asynchronous lectures..... He was not very approachable through emails. Doesn't care. Often my exam time limit was wrong.... I got less time then what I was suppose to. Tested material we never learnt. AVOID at all costs.
Worst Prof ever
Caring guy and really knows his stuff, but attending lectures live in the morning will bore you to sleep. His tests are very hard but fair. Make sure to re-do the inclass problems and practice problems to prep for the tests and you should be fine. His notes are also very good, so follow along in class
This man gave us an IMPOSSIBLE test worth 20%, completely changed the format from mc to numerical response with no heads up. Even after completing every single practice question, I still did not get the mark I wanted. The average for the test is about 35%. Class comes around and he tells us that the average is exactly where he wanted it... cruel.
Very soft spoken so hard to understand, moved the lecture time after sign up so I could never be at live lectures. Gets off topic quickly, gives wrong info for tests.
His notes are very detailed and organized making them enough to do decent without the lectures. Although the quizzes were somewhat reasonable, the final was unreasonable as it was mainly made up of fourier series questions and was worth 50%. Not a single person that I knew did really good on that final but he didn't curve which was frustrating.
Simply an amazing professor. A real gem and U of C is lucky to have him.
Not responsible at all, don't care about your grade, won't correct mis-grading because "it is only 10 percent won't hurt"
Avoid this prof like the plague. He doesn't care about your education. He sits at the front of the lecture and mumbles while writing notes that he has copied on a piece of paper with no explanation as to what we are doing. He doesn't grade things until the last minute and good luck getting office hours with him. Avoid this prof!
He does not care about his students.
The midterm and final exams in this class are obnoxiously hard!! I had both exams in person and they were absolutely terrible. Aiffa is the course coordinator and he posts his notes on D2L. Regardless of what prof you have LIVE BY AIFFA'S NOTES! He is the one who makes the multiple choice exams. Do not slack off in this class MANY people fail!
Horrible teaching and testing, hell teach you the same equations and methods to use all term (if you can learn to read his handwriting) and then the final exam is full of equations never shown before and the questions are numerical response for the coefficients in this equation youve never seen before (believe my I checked all the notes after)
Aiffa is the worst prof I have ever had the displeasure of meeting. His exams are impossible and he is the most unhelpful person I have ever met. Just take the class at Athabasca.
In person lecs were bad, barley could hear him. He'd just read his notes at a very low tone. Went to the first lecture and never went back, ur better off just studying off his notes as they are really good.
Has very good notes that allow you to learn well but when you take the midterm or final he will put questions that are way too difficult compared to what he has shown and will not be able to do in the time he gives. very inconsiderate and make the tests so much harder than they need to be just a bad person.
The worst prof I had so far PERIOD!! The midterm and final is extremely hard. Final is 50%. Not enough time to finish the paper. His lecs are very boring, only reads through slides, doesnot reply to emails (had to follow up 2-3 times to get a reply). DONT TAKE HIS CLASS!!
I have literally never met a worse prof in my life, he's all the terrible traits a prof could have. If you have math375, doesn't matter what prof u have cause they all use Aiffa's notes. TERRIBLE at responding to email, don't even hope to get a reply back from him in 1-2 business days, minimum of 2 weeks. Rude and talks to students condescendingly
Don't expect you can learn in his lectures where he only write notes (already posted before the lectures) without any further explanation on the content. Grades are very heavily based on midterm and final with only 20 MC questions. Past exams are outdated and only the answers are provided, without any steps or explanation.
Aiffa's notes had lots of mistakes which made it tough, and lectures were very boring. Assignments were crazy hard and this course was extremely heavy. His tests were fair though and he was pretty helpful with assignments in office hours. My learning style doesn't work with his teaching style.
His lectures were okay, it was often hard to hear him but he explained the content well. His notes were really good and could replace the lectures. The assignments were extremely difficult but Aiffa was always open to stay after class to help for as long as you need. Exams were fair but graded very strictly.
He seems like a nice person, and his notes are well-organized. However, he speaks at a low volume, and some notes contain mistakes, making them hard to follow. Additionally, the assignments and tests are quite different from the notes, including things that aren't taught in the course like proofs.
He looks at his notes reads them out loud and copies them word for word onto the projector. He explains very little and doesn't stop. There is no point in attending class your notes will be carbon copies of his on d2l and the lectures tire you out without any teaching. Course is tough go to Dr Golubnichiy for lec or teach yourself: blackpenredpen
The only good thing about Aiffa is that his notes are top notch and all you need to succeed in 375. Other than that, his lectures are subpar as all he does is recite his notes. His tests are extremely unforgiving with his written response not providing that much room for partial marks.
Aiffa has great notes and his tests ask questions that are fair. He's also usually friendly to talk to. His lectures are kind of lame though, he just reads his notes to the class. The final for spring 2023 was almost fully written response with no partial marks given, which was definitely weird. He's an ok prof.
His only saving grace are the notes he posts online. They are very good. THe course is ony markerd by 3 things, webwork assignments, midterm and final which together take +70% of the total grade. Lectures are pretty bad. This guy refuses to learn how operate the mic properly so we blasted by a mf brown note avery other class. Just do the notes.
The 5 start reviews are all ironic.
Great notes, bad lectures where he just reads his notes. Midterm and final exams make up 82% of your grade, both are all multiple choice questions so no partial marks.
Aiffa gave pretty good lectures and had nice notes. The topics covered in the lectures accurately reflected what was on the exams (although the exams weren't necessarily easy, the final was quite difficult).
Get ready to fail
Underrated professor, If you do the work and attend classes you will ace the class. Caring and good lectures. well-respected.
Professor Aiffa's lectures can be dry, but his detailed notes are essential for success. Use Unstuckstudy and stay focused to ace the challenging exams.
Aiffa's notes are goated and he is so funny and caring. Definitely a more boring lecturer but I love him. His final absolutely destroyed every single one of us but he ended up grading it super fairly and generously. Assignments were good difficulty level and boosted my grade for sure.
how is this guy coordinating one of the biggest courses at the university?? you have to email him numerous times to get a response that doesn't make sense, he forgot to book rooms for the midterm, and was just socially weird when i went to his office hours. also that final was a joke, we never learned half that stuff.
Terrible lectures.Students started not showing up to classes and very hard to understand what he is trying to say.
He is so inaudible, stays at one place and just keeps writing while I have no idea what's going on. You have a MIC, I STILL CANT HEAR YOU. WTH
Terrible lectures. He mumbles and doesn't explain.
You can tell teaching is just a job for him. Choose another prof if possible
Very difficult to make out his words due to terrible mic quality and inability to use it properly.
The lectures were very frustrating. I felt they were not beneficial in cementing my understanding of the topics at all.
Difficult to hear him but sit in the front and you'll be fine. He goes really slowly through the content and you end up learning content that you need to know for the WebWork the day that it's due... He's also unironically hilarious but in a scary way.
His midterm is way too hard, class avg was around 35%
The course is very hard, but the prof is good. The lectures are useful, so don't skip them.
His notes on d2L are amazing but are very content heavy (Cant just skim). 375 isn't an easy class, and his lectures are just maybe an example or two with the most boring and quite voice ever. Recommend doing all the notes by yourself and early before test.
If you do all the practice homework questions, practice tests, go to office hours, and follow along in lecture with his notes, you will be just fine
His notes were uploaded ahead of time, but it can get unorganized sometimes (he removes/adds slides), which can get very messy if you can't attend his lectures and when you want to advance study. I did not like his grade distribution, cus most of it is on the finals. The class average prior to finals was below passing. Good luck taking his class.
Only reads off the slides he uploads. Homeworks and tutorials are useful, the TAs are better at teaching this class than him. The midterm was unnecessarily hard, and the grade distribution is unjustified. The class average was only 35%. Unless he curves the final, most of us will fail.
367 was a very challenging course Room for improvement with lecture delivery Advice: Do each worksheet *at least* twice before heading into any quiz or midterm. Show up to lectures, it helps. Misc: While grading on the online quizzes were tough and sometimes on the edge of unfair, this was contrasted by the grading of the exams which was generous.
