Very difficult to understand, enjoys using the fact that he has more power of midshipmen than he would have over students at a regular school. Avoid him at all costs.

This guy cannot teach, cannot speak english, nor do anything remotely related to either. No one can reason with this man, just for the fact he has the power to do so.
Very hard to understand. I've taken college chem 1&2 and I still had a hard time understanding what he was trying to teach. Doesn't believe in partial credit, which is murderous on chem exams. Not a bad guy. . . but not a great prof to put in front of a syllabus either.

this guy will**** you in the ass. if you get this guy just start packing and leave the academy right away.

must learn english
Doesn't know english very well. However, that is not his buggest problem, he will quiz you at a high rate even when he hasn't lectured materials. Gives NO PARTIAL CREDIT.
Understand the material, just doesn't teach it very well. To get a good grade in Chemistry you must read the book and do practice problems. He is not a bad teacher, just unfair sometimes.
Those who say that they can't understand Professor Islam are retarded. If you pay attention and listen to what he has to say, you will find him a helpful teacher. He wants to pass students. Give him a chance and you will find his class worth it. Make sure you study for his exams. They are not easy.
It isn't so much too difficult to understand him, just obnoxious to hear him speak. He is pretty intolerant, and the fact that he's an instructor gives him a power trip that he has no problem exploiting. He didn't teach the material too well (and I had a chance to compare him directly to a good professor when I retook Chem II during the summer). If you get him, switch classes somehow, even if it means kidnapping another mid in a different section and assuming his identity for the semester.
He seems nice at times, however ive been told "ive already taught this." when ive gone up to ask for help. He finds new and creative ways to make the labs harder than they need to be and its just very difficult to leaern from him. Everything ive learned in this class i learned in my spare time.
Good teacher, always makes himself and the resources available that you need. Tests/quizes can be a challenge, but are nothing that's not in the book. He's a fair grader who teaches the material well. Our class average was always above the average of the others on common exams, so you'll know what matters.
Very hard to understand his accent and very difficult to work with.
Though he is a little tough to understand at first, he's still a very good prof and actually pretty funny. Don't believe all the rumors you hear.
Don't believe the rumors you hear, Dr. Islam although tough is a great teacher, he gives you a lot of material to make sure you are well prepared. If you are lazy don't get him.
Islam not great but not ridiculously awful. He is difficult to understand, and often the way he organizes his lectures is difficult to follow. While I know he knows the subject well, I think there is a significant language barrier. Most importantly, he really respects and awards effort. Show him you care. He genuinely does not want to fail anyone.

didn't learn anything... have fun teaching yourself from the book!
he's a legend here for being the worst teacher. if youre not a nerd then do whatever you can to get out of this class. i didnt learn anything in class but he rarely takes attendance so i was never there.
He is getting better. Reading the book helps so one can follow his lectures and know what topic he will be talking about.
He is not all that bad. I have him right now and I'm getting a C. I don't do anything and really haven't tried too hard in his class. My grade is improving because he rewards hard work. Don't believe the rumors because he is a decent prof and pretty funny at times. For the most part, you will have to rely on the textbook.
Run Away.
This guy really is great. He cares a lot about his students and really tries to make sure that you get a good grade. He is a little hard to understand at times but just listen to him. If you do the homework that he assigns and take the notes that he gives you will have no problem getting a good grade.
Dr Islam is awesome. He understands that he has a bad reputation and has turned everything around. HE DOESNT ASSIGN OWLS! HE is the man when it comes to extensions, his labs are EASY! great prof
Dr. Islam was the toughest teacher I have ever had because he is not leniant on grades at all. He's hard to understand and always makes labs harder than they have to be.
This guy was incomprehensible, didn't offer partial credit at all, and was a very hard to follow teacher overall. Learn to teach yourself from the book or just Avoid at all costs!
He's a tough teacher because he expects a lot from the students. However, he will help if you ask. He'll even have class fiday evening the weekend before common exams.

Dr. Islam is a horrible teacher. He doesn't teach clearly, and when you ask him a question, he tells you that you're stupid because you didn't understand. His labs are pretty easy if you follow directions, but the quizzes are insanely difficult. If you get him, run!
This is quite Possibly one of the easiest classes. Compared to others, NO OWLs, No bookwork and quite funny. If you can get beyond the fact that it takes a while to understand him, you can actually enjoy the class. I switched schedules into him for SC112 because of his willingness to help and ease outside of test. Prepare for quizzes and test!
At times, he appeared to know what he was talking about, but he was generally unclear in his explanations. His lectures had little organization. When going over problems, he often skipped around too much. If you read the textbook before his lectures, he’s a bit easier to understand. However, you should expect to teach yourself from the textbook
OMG GET THIS TEACHER
who ever rated this guy as good is dumb. He is by far the worst teacher I have ever had. He never structures lectures and when you ask him a question he refuses to answer them and says you should already know them. His quizzes are like test and he has a bad attitude on everything. If you get him get out of his class or be prepared to teach yourself
not as bad as everyone says. lectures can be difficult to follow at times, but overall the material is presented very well. tough quizzes but i was well prepared for the common exams
Either get out of his class, leave the academy, or deal with a terrible semester. I would rather face plant off a building then listen to him run his stupid mouth for one more min. Enjoy!
He's actually pretty damn good.
The rumors do not reflect the true nature of the teacher or his class. Prof. Islam knows his stuff and is more than willing to help his students. If he finds that his style of teaching is not working then he finds other students that can help explain things more clearly. Class is usually humorous partially because of his accent.
Don't believe what most of these other guys are saying. Islam is a good guy and cares about his students. Yes his quizzes are tough but the tests are a joke in comparison. Anyone who is complaining about him just didn't try hard enough
Some people say it's not that bad...well, it's not if you already understand what's going on in class. He teaches to the students who already understand, so for anyone who is a little behind...It's going to be tough "catching up". He plays favorites for sure and also picks a couple that he makes sure the class knows he doesn't like. have fun!!
Definitely one of the worst professors on the yard. Expect your grade and understanding of Chemistry to drop significantly. Hard to understand and gives his students the bare minimum required.
Not nearly as bad as everyone says. His quizzes are very well written and prepare you for the test, even though they are hard. Also his teaching style forces you to read the book, and do some work on your own. If you struggle that is your fault.
I have had Dr. Islam for both semesters of plebe chemistry and he is an amazing teacher. Although his quizzes are hard, they make the common exams look easy. He gives out alot of practice work and optional EI sessions. Has told us he wants all of us to do well. DO NOT BELIEVE THE RUMORS! Getting this teacher will be the best decision you make.
Prof. Islam is a fairly good prof. despite what other people may say. His quizzes and worksheet resemble the test very well, making his test average for his class well above the other teachers. He is also available for optional EI alot.
He is a horrible man. Avoid him at all costs.
He starts off the class with explaining how he understands how he is rated poorly, and he wishes it wasn't so. Do not fall for it! Do not feel bad! If I did not go to NAPs I feel like a B would of been impossible to maintain. I did the OWLs and it helped me make it through because understanding him or his chicken scracth notes is hard. Avoid him.
Despite what students say, he is one of the nicest professors I have had. Professor Islam will answer any questions you have and will schedule as much EI as you need. It is true that you need to do a little research and studying on your own, but it will pay off in the end. The common exams will be much easier for students who have Professor Islam.
Despite what students say, he is one of the nicest teachers at USNA. He will answer all your questions and provide as much EI as you need. It is well known that students who have him do better on the common exams and the final. Don't be afraid..Professor Islam is a great teacher. His class is enjoyable as well.
I would rather circumsize myself. He can't pronounce certain *important* words correctly...be prepared to hear "eequibrimiahn" a lot (exactly, wtf?).
Dr. Islam gets a bad rap, but if you actually read the book, do the OWLs, and pay attention in class, he's actually a pretty good teacher. His quizzes are a lot harder than the test, so you will be definitely be ready for the common exams.
He is a good teacher for those who understand the subject. I could have learned more in his class but I still managed to scrape by with a D. If you get Dr. Islam TRY TRY TRY and WORK WORK WORK! If he sees that you are trying he will help you a lot. No sympathy for those who do not.
Great prof. He really cares about the students and wants them to learn the material. His quizzes will prepare you for the exams. He is also very lenient on your final grade if you work hard. He grades labs easy and will let you turn them in late. He mispronounces words but that makes the class funny. I highly recommend this teacher.
Overall good teacher who understands Chemistry perfectly. It is usuful to read the book in addition to taking notes during his lectures. Islam rewards students who work hard and complete their OWLs. If you show some respect and don't get annoyed by his English, this Chemistry class is easy to get a B or better in
Great Professor who spends his time making sure that the students understand the material. Quizzes can be tough but they prepare you for the exams extremely well. Overall good professor that rewards good grades to students who work hard. He is very reasonable and understanding.
He is hard to understand at first but if you give it a few weeks you will understand him fine and enjoy his humor. He gives very helpful EI sessions when it comes time for tests. His quizes can be hard but he gives you a chance to still get a good grade and it better prepares you for the exams. He will help you get through this pain of a class.
Great overall teacher who really cares about his students learning. If you work hard and take notes, it is a very easy class to get a B in. If you put in extra effort and attend EI sessions, an A is easy to obtain.
Prof Islam is hard to understand at first but it gets better. He is a really nice guy who wants to help students who care. If you show him you care and work hard you have nothing to worry about. If you try, you really shouldn't get anything less than a B. Quizzes are hard but they keep you ready for the tests. It was great having him in the spring
I began Chemistry II with absolutely no interest in the subject for the first grading term, and my grade reflected it with an F. Dr. Islam was quick to offer frequent EI; as a result my quiz average rose. I failed the the 6 and 12 week exams, but was able to pass the Final with a Low C thanks to Dr. Islam coming to review the day before the exam
Do not go into Professor Islam's class with a negative mindset. Anyone that is willing to work hard and listen in class should get an A. He is a genuinely caring professor that wants to see his students succeed. I would definetly take him again
If you get stuck with this guy change teachers immediately. His clas will ruin your gpa. Some people will say that he ended up not being that bad they were probably really goood at chemistry. I was only a decent chem student and his class was ridiculously hard. I gave 100% effort and still failed every single one of his quizzes.
Dr. Islam is a kindly man, but not when you are struggling in class. He teaches to his favorites and those who already know the material...so if you didn't take AP chem or NAPS guy, then it will be tough!
Prof. Islam is a very nice and smart professor who gets a bad reputation. He expects you to work and read outside of class and lectures are more of reviews of the book's reading. If you work outside of class, it is easy to get an A or B. He gives extra credit to boost quiz scores at the end of the semester too. Just keep a positive attitude.
He is an interesting teacher. Because of his bad reputation people assume his class will be bad. You just need to enter without any sort of bias or misconceptions. He works very hard and is always willing to provide E.I. and work with the students. Towards the end of the semester he is much easier and lightens the work load to accommodate everyone.
He is a good teacher. He will definitely make you work, but if you are willing to do so you will be fine. If he sees you have been working hard, he will definitely help you out.
Professor Islam is a very helpful professor. Although his quizzes are generally hard, it helps prepare you better for the chemistry finals. He literally knows everything about Chemistry. The grade you get is the grade you deserve - it's proportionate to the effort you put in. Great professor, would definitely take his class again.
Dr. Islam is a good teacher. He is soft spoken and has a bit of an accent, so it is beneficial to sit in the front. His reputation is harsher than he deserves, he is friendly and willing to help, he may just be a bit too smart for chem 1.
Reading comments prior to having him scared me a little, but there is no reason for it. In class, he is a little vague on some chemistry concepts so expect to have read the book. His EI is very helpful! If you get his as a teacher be thankful because many in the chem department are much worse. Seem like you like chemistry and he will like you.
Cannot understand his accent or handwriting. He is a poor teacher, not organized and unhelpful. All of the rumors are true. Switch out if you can.
Very nice, genuine professor. His class is hard only if you have a negative attitude. Despite a bad rep around the yard, he is an excellent prof. Once you get used to his accent, you will learn to appreciate his classic "hard nosed" teaching style. Do all the HWs and labs, study for quizzes and you will not get below a C, prob end up with a B.
Doesn't speak English well. Gets angry when asked questions. Avoid getting him at all costs. Try to go to his test reviews though.
He's hard to understand, but if you can get help from outside, you'll be fine. Go to EI, get help from classmates. He's not a bad teacher, just try to get a front row seat. I thought I was going to have a bad experience, but it turned out fine.
The rumors your youngsters told you are all true. FLEE.
This was one of the most challenging courses I have ever taken. He is very hard to understand and I found myself not focusing in lecture. If you get him, you will need to find outside help. I started out with an F, but I went through so much help with other teacher EI's and practice tests that I pulled it to a C. Do not slack off, work hard.
Great Teacher. Humorous professor. He cares a lot about his students; unfortunately a lot of students have a poor attitude in learning chemistry and will blame their laziness on the teacher. He is a great teacher and is always available for extra help.
He is possibly the worst teacher I have ever had. He is not nice, he does not explain questions, yells at you for asking questions and doesn't care about you if you don't do well in his class. He will not help you, he is not a good teacher, he may know the material but he does not share such knowledge with us. He is rude, tired, and old.
Don't ever expect a nice notes handout like the other professors give out. He simply pulls out a stack of paper and starts writing where you can't see on the projector and even if you can see it his handwriting is so horrendous it's impossible to read. At least he will give EI if requested.
Hard to understand. Won't answer stupid questions. He will schedule EI if you need it though.
Great guy! Just a little hard to understand.
Professor Islam is a great guy. He is very funny and he really cares about students. Sometimes his class lectures are hard to follow, but he really knows his chemistry and if you ask for help he is very willing to help. He wants students to succeed.
He's a good guy. Lectures are boring, and long. Sometimes hard to understand, but overall cares about his students and is a funny guy.
Funny guy, offers plenty of EI, but sometimes tough to understand the first time around.
A tough class that will take more effort than any other. He is very difficult to understand which adds another element to learning the already difficult concepts.
His accent is hard to understand sometimes. Practicing problems online and in the book are essential to passing this class. It's very tough to do when you don't have much time.
Dr Islam challenges us as students but in doing so allows for us to learn the material very well. Dr Islam makes his students earn his grades. He is very fair in the grade he gives. It is also very evident that Dr Islam genuinely cares for his students. He is available outside of class and always holds group EI sessions before tests. Great teacher
Dr. Islam is a tough but fair grader and expects his students to rise to the challenges he offers. He gives students the opportunity to improve through hard work, and is extremely helpful and available for EI whenever needed.
He is a fair professor and a great dude. He can be frustrating and first but stick with him and he will help you with whatever you need. He doesn't like stupid questions so think about what you are asking. He's an awesome professor especially if you use him as an EI resource.
Great professor. He was a hard grader but really felt like that prepared me for the common exams. Rare in that he actually cared about student learning. Wish him the best of luck in retirement.
