Very nice, but very tough. Go and talk to him often, it boosts your grade A LOT

A very nice professor, smart and easy to talk to. Study and you'll do fine.

This man tests on completely irrelevant material. Hard to follow.
The guy thinks he should be a stand-up comic. Entertaining lectures but little substance. Basically on your own to learn the material. Personal note: an egocentric, pompous a**.
He is quite clear on what he expects from you. You are to learn the material. I found the overwhelming majority of what he said relevent as it was expanding or clarifing the material. One of my most engaging professors. High expectations of you.
Mohey has been the only teacher I have ever had that really challenged my learning methods, and he greatly improved them. People mostly say bad things about him, but it's only because they didn't put the hard work/effort towards achieving a good Grade.
Should be a comedian. Hard to follow, doesn't go over what he tests. Trick answers on test. Seems like a decent guy and helpful.
I got an A in his class but still thought he was way out there with test questions. Tests not on material in lecture or text. Was mean to some students in my class. Told one girl who asked a question that she had ruined his moment.
Mohey is a great teacher if you are a motivated learner. If you don't really want to learn he doesn't really want to teach you. He's an exceptional person if you are willing to listen
He's hard, but interesting if you can get past the accent.
Not a big fan of this man. Hard to follow with the whole accent thing. Treats some students like crap and makes them feel worthless. He likes to pick his favorites and praises them.
The class wasn't too hard, but playing his guessing games on his tests sure was! Is the answer a)no, b)not yes, c)a and b, or d) all of the above. And his 'prezies' don't help you, he just takes those of the final score. Now go do that voodoo that you do so well.
I sincerely enjoyed being made to feel like an idiot just because I couldn't play the guessing game he refers to as a test. I didn't make the favorites list so instead I had spent the semester avoiding being singled out and blamed because I don't find his rantings engaging. You're welcome! Be Well!
I did very well in his class but his tests were ridiculous. Puts questions on the test that ARE NOT covered in the book or lecture despite what he says. His freebies don't help. Wastes 1st 2 weeks of class on his own personal philosophy. Extremely rude to certain students & plays favorites. HORRIBLE
Dr. Mowafy was one of the most engaging professors I've had. This is an upper level class, don't expect to slide by. His tests are extremely hard, but if you study the notes and study the book, you'll do fine. Overall a very interesting, intelligent professor, challenges you, but you learn alot.
Mo is a big moron. I asked for help and because I wasent one of his favorites he pretty much blew me off. This made me not want to even go to class anymore. He covers to much crap and it dosent even sink in to stay. It stays just long enough to take the tests then leaves.
Hard class...study lots...get to know him...go to study groups...and by all means don't sleep! Pay attention...If you want to work your ass off take him!! I enjoyed him and learned more than my brain could handle!
very intresting
He is by far the best teacher I've ever had. I really stay interested in his lectures and he always wants to make sure you are understanding everything he is going over. Although the tests are hard, it is possible to get a good grade if you pay attention and study. He doesn't spoon feed you information. A lot of things you have to figure out and make sense of yourself. That is the point of it being an upper level class. He's a great instructor.
I have been out of his class for a year and here's what I still remember: All of the dumb quotes he would say all the time, the way he was rude to students, and the way the tests were half his teachings and half the book material. What I don't remember? The material he covered. When the student is ready the teacher will appear, ha. When the student is ready Northern sends in Mowafy. Be well.
Rude, disrespectful. Hard to understand (accent)
He's inspiring and very intelligent. He cares about his students and works hard to get you to care about your education.
Very disrespectful. Seems to not like nursing students. Very unclear on test questions. Demeaning when don't understand something that he feels one should easily understand. Just overall a bad experience!
Mohey Mowafy is the best prof. that I've had at NMU yet. He explains what he does explain well, meaning you remember it the next semester, unlike profs who shove information down your throat. He explained DM better than any other! He could go lighter on the test questions. Rock on Mohey!
Mowafy is a great teacher... just very intimidating (Don't get caught not paying attention!) Tests are tough - write down every word he says.
He asks questions on tests about his personal life- name of his son or cat, for example- these count as points, too! Validation is that you need to pay attention. Rambles on and on about some things and then skims other topics. I really didn't enjoy his lectures.
Mohey is The greatest teacher I have had the blessing to encounter. It is unfortunate that many students have become stale and can't respond to his enthusiasm. Sit in the front, find out why you got the questions wrong that you did (yes go to his office) take control of your learning, it is Your responsibility. And have a sense of humor!!!
Mohey is a genious!! Best teacher I have ever had, I had to take his class twice, the first time I didn't understand his style of teaching, and just didn't try hard enough, the second time I knew what to expect and actually listened to his advise on how to do well in the class, and it works. I think you either get him or you don't.
Not a good professor overall. Had favorites and his tests are not over what he covers or what is in the book. the questions in the tests were over non-class things. some questions were *free* as in 'pick me' these didn't really help. hard to understand with the accent just lectures the entire time. hes the only professor for this class be prepared
take notes on printed out powerpoints but the bes prof i have had at NMU great guy, helped me out with my personal life too!
Awsome
He's tough on everybody and requires your attention at all times. Anyone who has a problem with this won't do well. He wants you to get the most out of it. If you take advantage of this, you'll do great!
I took his class for health professionals. His tests are tricky, go to lectures and take notes. Has powerpoint slides..didnt read the book. Main thing is talk in his class. He grades easier on ppl who talk. And if you have a question, go ask him. He'll basically tell you whats on the test.
I am currently taking human nutrition with Mowafy. I enjoy each and every lecture, have yet to miss a class. It is important to attend a class, but it is not mandatory. I often find myself integrating several things that he says into my daily life. I find him very insightful. I hope to take classes with him in the future.
Mohey is a wonderful teacher. As long as you make sure to go to class and stay involved, you'll do great. He is always willing to help, especially during class and at his office hours. A very respected and personable instructor, as long as you make the time to talk to him.
Dr. Mowafy is Brilliant! He is inspirational and supportive to all those who are enthusiastic and serious about understanding how to fuel there bodies and others. Attending all his lectures with personal motivation to succeed is a must. NMU would be a better place if there were more professors like Dr. Mowafy.
Mo wants you to pay attention, show up, and participate. Reading is secondary. He knows his topic (and many others) inside and out. If you go to him due to confusion or outside conflicts, he'll help you out. Great teacher, one of the best I've had at NMU.
Dr. Mo is great! Iam in his nurtrition class I really like the class. Mo is funny at times. He is really easy going as long as you attend his class, pay attention and particapate. There is alot to know about nurtrition he makes the learning interesting. I have applied alot of what I have learned to my daily life.
Mo is a very inspiring professor who enjoys teaching. He tries hard to keep the class interesting through personal stories and relating nutrition to everyday events. He frequently makes jokes to liven the class and enjoys class participation. Tips for this class: attend every lecture, participate, and try to live what you learn!!
Mohey Mowafy will require you to think more than most teachers! He will give you the basic ideas/principles but test you on real life scenarios. Its hard but practical. If you do poorly on an exam go to his office and look at it. He has been known to make mistakes. *He is not really mean he is just so busy it sometimes comes across as mean.
He offers the pricesless knowledge of experience everyday combining life lessons and philosophy with every nutrition discussion. He encourages everyone to talk and pay attention. I go out of my way to make sure never to miss a class or even be late because I really feel that I would be hurting myself. Plus he's funny and keeps the class focused.
Dr. Mo is an awesome teacher. His lectures are really interesting and keep you thinking. He is very helpful in many ways. I had some problems with my personal life that affected my performance in HN 210. Mo was understanding and very helpful through this. (I don't know many teachers that would have done what he did.) Mo's GREAT!
He teaches in a way that makes you think on your own, he speaks in terms that have higher meaning that you have to piece together on your own to understand. You really need to apply yourself with him as a teacher, he does not spoon feed.
One of the hardest professors that I have come across. Uses powerpoints, but you need to be there to understand what he is talking about. On tests, he uses things talked about in class, no matter how small it was. you cannot just read the book and expect to do good. somewhat fair. hard to understand. use a recording device, it will help out alot.
Dont buy a text book, you'll never use it. All his tests were based on the lecture. You really have to pay attention in this class and take lots of notes. I earned an (A), but this class ranks on my top 5 most difficult classes in 4 years of school. Excellent teacher and individual!
This was the worse class I've ever taken at Northern let alone didn't understand the professor one bit. I sat in front and when it came to his help...received nothing
I took this class in the summer, the first college class I took! Tough class, but interesting. He is full of himself, but a smart man.
Best prof at NMU by far! People who don't like him are not motivated to actually learn anything. You will appreciate his methods down the road if you get through the class!
Mo is a very great teacher. He keeps me very mindful as he would say.You learn a lot take notes and attend every class and you will for sure come out with knowledge.
I was very interested in this class and love the material. He is a good teacher, but too full of himself and unorganized which makes learning from him difficult. He tends to be rude to others by calling them out in the middle of class for perhaps asking a neighbor a question or typing notes on your laptop. Not very nice and very uncalled for.
To clarify, Mo will call you out in class, but only if you are not paying attention (sleeping, daydreaming, talking, on your laptop doing something not related to his current lecture). He does this to bring your attention back to the class, to help your grade. So that you dont think he tested on something he never said in class that he did say.
He knows ALOT & is very excited about the field of nutrition. However, I feel he isnt very good at lecturing about it. He loses his train of thought often & becomes sidetracked. His exams are extremely tough. By far my hardest (& by far LEAST FAVORITE) prof at NMU
An excellent teacher who makes his students actually learn something. Attendance is a must in order to do well. If you don't like learning and just want a good grade w/o working don't take the course ..simple enough. Call students out for not paying attention, so if you feel like doing something else while he is teaching don't take the course.
Oh my God go to class and you'll do fine. He goes fast and his tests are little nit picky but really if you just absorb what he says you'll be fine. He sometimes misunderstands your questions so just ask him again or restate the question. He's a cool cat really. Don't buy the book it's a waste of money you never touch it.
KEY: Pay attention. He explains things that relate to actual cases to understand concepts. He really is a wonderful professor- the best class I've had in college by far. In his class you actually learn and retain the info rather learning and forgetting. Ask questions if things aren't clear. Use the book as a reference if needed. Highly recommended!
Professor Mowafy is by far the best teacher I have had in all my years of schooling. His lectures seem to fly by! He really knows what is is talking about. Some people do not like his tests, but if you attend every class, do not surf the internet and actually listen to his lectures, you will have no problem! He is a kind and fair professor.
Best class I have ever taken taught by the best professor I have ever met! The information is very interesting and useful! This class was by far my favorite class to go to. Do not suffer silently, ask questions and you will do well ! You will never learn so much from one class. Without a doubt I would recommend this class!
Mo is AMAZING, I hear people complain about him and they are typically those who sit on their laptops and Facebook or anything but pay attention in his class. He has called people out, as they say, because they are distracting fellow learners and he gets offended by it as he should! I recommend Mo. He has so much life experience to learn from
Mohey is a great professor with great intentions. Many people don't like him because he will treat you like an adult and not a child. Take care of your business ( actually study), go to class, treat him with respect and you will walk away from the semester learning a lot more than you ever thought.
AMAZING. WONDERFUL. Mr. Mohey Mowafy's class has changed my life for the better. I have never been influenced by a teacher to this extent. If you go to class and be engaged, you'll do great! MOHEY MOWAFY ROCKS!!!
AWESOME!!! GREAT TEACHER!! favorite class, to attend!!!
I've had Mowafy for more than one class and I think he's an excellent professor. He encourages you to ask questions and have a mind of your own! You must go see him on his office hours if your would like to ask questions or get to know him better, its a great opportunity! I strongly recommend his class.
If you are in school to learn, this is the place to do it. Yes you have to show up and pay attention. Yes you have to think for yourself. In the end it is your money and you get a quality education from this professor if you just be apart of the experience not just along for the ride.
NOT an easy class. If you want an A you'll have to work for it. The tests are definitely hard and require critical thinking. But thats what Nursing S. is like so its a good prep/weed out course I suppose. Yes Mr. M. is arrogant, but he is a very smart guy and if he can see your trying, he's very helpful. Tough class but I did learn from it.
I really like the way he teaches. He really makes you think about what you are learning and I learned so much in his class. Even though the class is a lot of work, I definitely recommended it
He is tough, but I learned more in an hour than I did in one semester of any other class. He is extremely smart. If you want to do well, attend class and talk to him after every test. Tests are all essay, no book - so take good notes!
MO is one of the most influential teachers i have had. His teaching method makes the material easy to understand. However, if one does not show up everyday to class as well do not desire to learn then they will not do so well. He is always available to assist students if needed. What one learns in his class is beneficial in everyday life.
Was my first class with him. Great presentation, and good sense of humor.I met him briefly, and I like him.
HN 301A first semester with Mo and he is awesome!! I think he is the best teacher I have ever had! He is beyond intelligent, interesting, and so funny. I will def take him for more classes because I think he is that great. He has changed my way of thinking and eating for the better :)
Mohey is the most caring, interesting professor I have had at NMU. Not only does he expect students to think for themselves, it is a requirement in order to do well. He pushes people to think outside their comfort zone, gently encouraging and integrating his life philosophy in all he teaches. I recommend taking multiple classes with him!
Mo is such an amazing professor and person. Not only does he care about the material/content of what he teaches, he really genuinely cares about students and what they have to say. Brilliant guy. People whine about the class not being about food, but Mo brings food in occasionally to spice up his lectures on what is really "food for thought".
Dr. Mo is one of the best professors at NMU. He is very caring, loving, and inspiring man. He isn't like most teachers and reads off the power points. He actually makes you use your brain. His quiz's for Hn210 are tough, but college isn't easy. I do not see how some people can be so against this man. He is an amazing person in our school & community
Mo is by far one of the best men I have ever met. Not only does he "TEACH" you what you need to know if you can only take the time to listen, but he also offers valuable insight that if you truly think about can change your life forever. Mo is like a sage. He has so much more to teach you then what he actually teaches. Just listen to what he says!
Doctor Mowafy is by far one of the best professors I have ever had. He is very interesting, as well as interested in what he is teaching. He not only provides us with valuable information, but also is able to give us life lessons. I feel he has provided me with great insight, and has made going to class a great experience! I strongly suggest taking
Amazing. This course is not meant to memorize test material but to develop the mind. Mohey simply asks you to think instead of trusting the word of others. Those who come to college for bare-minimum work and letters behind their name may not like him; those who come to learn, enjoy. I only wish I would have met Mohey earlier in my college career.
Outstanding. Mo teaches with more passion than any professor I have ever met. The class is not meant to be easy but is well worth it if you are actually interested in learning. He explains things like they are and some choose to take that as irrational but he is the best professor I have had.
He is a hard teacher but as long as you show up to class and pay attention you are fine. He lets you know from the start that he is going to call you out if you ask someone a question or aren't paying attention. It helps to go in after tests to look over them because he might have missed something. Best teacher to have you learn though!
Mo does a fantastic job teaching this stuff. He knows it, and opens your mind to the reality of nutrition as opposed to what society believes. He challenges his students to think, which as generations develop, thinking somehow becomes harder to do, and therefore students won't like Mo, but as long as you use your brain, you'll do well in Mo's class
Mo is an amazing professor; I have learned so much in such a short amount of time. 301A is harder than B because he makes you think, but if you're looking to be in the health field (think House), you need to be able to take bits and put them together to form a whole picture, or diagnosis. Office hours almost every day, very helpful after class. A++
Dr. Mowafy is awesome. Anyone who says otherwise is not any sort of a serious student. If you go to class, pay attention, and take notes, it is astounding how much you can pick up from his lectures. If any of Dr. Mowafy's classes meet a requirement for your major, I strongly suggest you take them.
Very good and challenging prof.
Mo is a great teacher who really cares deeply for his students, and the material he teaches. He will always find time to meet with students to help with problems. His classrooms is a very learner friendly environment and he is a very learner friendly teacher.
Mo is a great teacher. His class is not easy and will require you to work for a good grade. He is very willing to help his students, all you have to do is ask. I have learned more from his class than all of my other college courses combined.
Mo is an outstanding teacher always ensuring that the material is understood and clear. He goes beyond just giving material and broadens your mind to stretch your ability in understanding and questioning the subject."Students dont take classes they take teachers".he has had a positive lasting impact on my knowledge, integrity and goals.thank you mo!
In Mo's class, not only do you learn the necessaries about human nutrition, you learn so much more about like and being an active learner in general. His tests are only hard if you don't pay attention or go in and ask for help when you need it or in class. Mo is always ready to help a student who WANTS to learn.
Mohey Mowafy has a unique way of presenting information regarding human nutrition. He provides "out of the box" explanations & presentations and engages students in a way that I have never seen before. Mohey is very approachable and is very dedicated to his profession. Mohey turned a subject that I had no interest, into something that I use daily
Mo is a great professor. Stay engaged in class, go to his office hours, make just that extra bit of effort and you will do just fine. One of the few professors who attempts to actually get to know his students. Tests come directly from lecture, so go! Lectures are thought-provoking...this is the type of information you'll be excited to talk about.
Mo is an excellent professor who presents students with a boatload of interesting material and invites them to "dig a little deeper" and incorporate new ideas into their lives. His classes are a challenge, but they are also fun, rewarding and useful. It doesn't hurt that he seems to really care whether or not you come out of there better prepared.
Mo is a rarity in the University setting, his lectures are given with the intent that you form your own thoughts about the subject matter. The material can be difficult, but it will only remain that way if you refuse to ask him to clarify it for you. Mo is the kind of prof that you wish for, he will always help the students that are willing to ask.
Mohey Mowafy is the best teacher I have ever had.He is filled with wisdom and it would be a shame if you did not attend every lecture intently and absorb everything he has to teach. When he asks you to let go and think for yourself just do it. It feels great. I have learned more in one class with Mohey than all of my other courses combined.
Mo is a great teacher! If you are having a problem or struggling at all, he will help- he wants to help. If you don't understand- ask him. To be a true learner, you must take a class with him!
I had never taken a HN class before and dove into this 400 level for my senior year out of the box experience. It was everything that I hoped for. All I had to do was be interactive, and make sure I kept base with him. It is an intense class and you will walk away with a whole new understanding of life and HN.
I Had Mo for three classes last semester. Hn 210, 301b, and 415. To say the least it was alot of mo, but I couldn?t have had a better professor for it. He is incredibly helpful outside of the class and is always willing to help you. He provides a sense of care for his students unrivaled by any other teacher iv ever had. Use him and you WILL succeed
Mo is by far one of the best teachers I have had during my time at NMU. If you attend and pay attention during lecture and utilize his office hours outside of class, it is nearly impossible to fail.
Amazing professor! He is excited to teach as well as to help his students learn. It would be a difficult class to pass without showing up. Proving to be engaged and present in Mo's class is key. Act interested, ask questions, and be involved however dont underestimate the class. If you put in the time, you'll be fine! Best professor ive had!
Wholelistic method (see big picture)via metaphor stories. Alot of article reading. Tests NOT easy, if you skip class you will not pass, as tests are directly from lecture. Get help if you are struggling. Mo will help!
Took just for nutrition B - you have to work for your grade. go to class, test from lecture. Start getting bonus points ASAP, go into his office he WILL help you! He seems overbearing and intimidating in class but he's super friendly and helpful in his office. **no textbook is a bonus too**
You may get called out in class; but it will ALWAYS be warranted. Making sure you're paying attention is really a service to YOU. Everyone who says that the tests cover things he never spoke about is WRONG. They weren't paying attention. If you're MINDFULLY present during lecture- you'll do great. If you have no will to learn, you won't succeed.
Mo bases the tests on what he covers in class.Make sure you listen to what he says, and ask questions if you have them.He prefers communication between students and teacher, and will reward you for it. His tests are fair, but you need to study for them. Go ask him questions during his office hours.Very interesting class and very enjoyable teacher.
Mo stresses that he is not an instructor, he is a teacher. He wants his learners to go beyond what is said in the classroom. He is a unique individual and whether you like him or not, he leaves his mark. The best professor I've ever had, his lectures are just the basis of information, he supplements with articles and current events. Look elsewhere if you are looking for an 'easy A' with Mo, you get what you earn!
Mo is the best professor that I've had during my college experience. His passion for teaching and his students goals is something I greatly admired. I enjoyed that he challenged me to be engaged and to apply what I had learned in his class to the other aspects of my daily life.
You will learn far more than nutrition in this course. Mo legitimately cares about his students and wants you to succeed. The more you put into this class the more you'll get out. Attendance is definitely necessary, but his allegorys make it fun!
Dr. Mo is extremely helpful and understanding. He uses personal experience and analogies to explain concepts that would be completely boring otherwise. You can tell he really cares for his students. He makes no apologies for having "favorites" but all it takes to be a favorite is to be engaged and "present". Mo's personality makes this an easy task
Dr. Mowafy is more then a teacher. Excluding the subject that he teaches Mowafy actually cares for the students. I was having a rough time in my life and he took interest in me and helped me,more then academically. I owe Mowafy more then gratitude. I truly believe he saved my life. Thank you Dr. Mowafy. you are a great man. I will miss you!!
Yes some say hes hard, some say he goes off topic, and some say he tells a lot of storyâ??s but its these that I admire him for. Although he is hard: you learn, although he goes off topic: itâ??s always for an example, although he tells stories: they are for a reason. Everything Mr. Mowafy does is for his students. He is a very compassionate person.
Prof. Mowafy has been my favorite teacher for sure. His enthusiasm and level of engagement with the class were always top-notch and he always laughed with us. The course material wasn't the easiest but just attend & take notes. Regardless of how people do in his class we all love him. Much regret that he won't be here next semester (retiring).
Mo is an absolutely incredible teacher. He is one of the best professors I have ever had and I'm definitely going to miss him! I've learned so much in all of his classes and it's because of him that I'm focusing in the nutrition pathway. He's irreplaceable and will be missed at Northern. Thanks again Mo!
Mohey represents one of those pivotal moments in my calling to pursue a profession of teaching. This moment happened to last an entire semester. His class challenged me to dig deep and bring forward my true thoughts in reflections and essays. His method of teaching is going to be a large influence in my future career. He is a great teacher!
I always found it perplexing that there were students struggling in the class. Mowafy, does everything in his power to make learning so easy and enjoyable. Passionate about the material, while being even more passionate, made learning a rewarding experience. I appreciated his ability to challenge me, push me, and support me in our class endeavors.
Easily the best teacher I have ever had! The class is difficult, but this is college not high school. He treats you as an adult and challenges you to do better.
Very passionate and a great teacher. He is also very understanding with non-traditional students. I had to bring my young children in to his office once to ask questions and not only did he encourage their questions (they talk A LOT, he taught them about mummies. They still talk about mommy's "school" and his office. I'd recommend him to anyone!
I learned alot in this nutrition class. The supplemental materials were all very interesting and informative. I was introduced to many new things and ideas and all are very appreciated. Professors like Mo make attending university a pleasure and I consider my time well spent. Thank you for the enlightenment. The above rating categories lack depth.
I loved this class, especially the use of essays to test our knowledge and effort. This is the best professor I've ever had because he teaches students to think for themselves.
He is very interesting. I enjoyed his classes. His accent can be a little hard to understand at times. His tests were hard because they were a lot of critical thinking, and those are the only grades he uses. He also singles people out in front of everybody if they use their phone or fall asleep.
