She is very funny. She is gives study guides and easy HW.
hard tests
nice intro course
Not the kind of geography you think it will be. HARD tests, but good teacher
Interesting lectures. Easy tests...Never read the book and did well.
anybody who has trouble in this class, its because they didn't go.
have to go to class-3 midterms-no final-easy to understand
hard tests, but if you study inclass notes you can do good.
Very boring! Too excitied about class! She is alright! She knows geography well!!
tests are pretty hard, class is super boring
power pt notes, difficult but big curve, and very helpful and want you to pass
Very clear lectures, and enthusiastic about the class, makes it interesting!!
very boring, tests are hard, must read bk. along with notes
nice instructor, knows her stuff, exams are reasonable
understand concepts, key terms, tests on applying knowledge, interesting stuff
Class is reasonable. Tests aren't too hard and nothing is culmative. She loves geography and it shows. She's pregnant this semester so I don't if she will be back for Fall 03 but if she is take her class it's the best geo class.
Pohl is very excited about geog, easy to listen too but definately boring, notes are the key to her tests, curves grades at the end
Incredibly enthusiastic, almost wakes you up from the class before....almost. Go to class take good notes, study your notes, and you'll do fine. Tests are somewhat difficult, but nothing out of the ordinary.
tests are hard. class is boring. but she's nice and loves to teach.

Good teacher. Pretty textbook. Knows her subject very well. Tests kind of hard. Hot lil tot.
Refer to Molly Pohl. Costello is her married name. She goes by both.
Hard class. Lots of reading and class discussion on readings. Many projects. No tests at all! Just for this class tho. Field trips are awesome. Challenges you. It's hard and is a lot of work, but you learn SO MUCH! It's beneficial for you.
Boring class, but really nice lady and she is enthused about the subject so it helps a litte. clear in her explanations and always will to help when you ask for it.
Although her lectures may be a bit boring, She is really, really HOT.
shes very nice and opens her office to anyone so take it and anytime possible go to her office and go over the previous lectures with her (thats how i got a B or else i of got an F). honestly, tests are super hard because of questioning to ask her questions during the test, and if you take her you MUST GO TO CLASS AND STUDY FOR ALL OF THE TESTS!!
hard class
This course was surprisingly very difficult. The teacher was very enthusiastic but her lectures were very long and it's one of those courses where you have to copy down ALL of her notes. She says "kay" A LOT. We counted over 200 times in 60 minutes once! The lectures contain KEY info on the tests. GO TO CLASS.
kinda hard. go to class. shes helpful if you want it. pretty hot as well
Really understanding teacher. She will help you if you seek help. Tries to make class fun although it is very boring. Her powerpoints are helpful and she tests basically out of lecture and reading. 3 tests and 3 assignments, that's it. Shakes a lot and seems nervous but she tries to relax and be cool. She's very interested in topics and explains.
This class is not easy!! if you are trying to fufill GEs look elsewhere. This class will require you to study. It is interesting. and she is soooo nice and hlpful. just its hard!
great teacher! really cares; must attend class because her lectures are where the tests come from; only 3 tests, no final (last test is worth 40%)no homework; it actually is a hard class but it helps a lot to go to her office hours; also she grades on a curve
very sweet woman. I thought the class was going to be easy, but it actually is hard. She really wants to help everyone tho. She set up study sessions during office hours (really helps with the test) and is willing to meet anytime! curved the class. Tests mainly on lectures (not posted on line) The nicest, most caring teacher Ive had!
Easy A if you go to all the Lect. her pwrpoint isnt availible to students, it should be considering they hold tons of info. Very nice lady. ~5 hmwk assignments. ~3 exams, moderate difficulty. Not a bad class, good gpa booster.
AMAZING!! she is a really good teacher and she really likes her subject. she isn't an easy teacher but she is also very helpful and very understanding. she is great. i wish i could take another class with her.
Extremely fun and interesting. Whether you consider yourself a "meteorologist" or not you'll enjoy it and won't be able to escape becoming enthusiastic about the topic. (She is also definitely one of the sexiest professors on campus.)
Sweet, Enthusiastic lady. Class is VERY information heavy. Exams can be overwhelming due to so much detailed material. 3 exams, 3 hmwk assignment. Grade almost entirely based on exams. Attend lect (they are power point) for best results. A lot of memorization, material for a 100-level course.
Very good professor. She tries to keep everything in class understandable. I recommend her, even if her exams are pretty challenging.
Great professor! Makes class as interesting as possible; makes the material understandable and teaches it so that it relates to everyday life. Incredibly helpful, really nice, passionate, energetic. Tests are challenging but if you pay attention you'll be okay. Highly recommend taking her.
The easiest teacher I've ever had! I scored a 54% on the final and still ended up with an A in the class :P. She's hella chill!
She is a really GREAT professor! She tries her hardest to make sure her students succeed :) I hardly used the book but it does help, buying it is up to you. Your grade is made up of 3 tests and 4 assignments & she curves BIG TIME!! I should have gotten a C (lol) on a test and I got a A after the curve! thats w/o studying!! TAKE her class!! :)
I don't know why people are saying this is an easy class. Take my word, it is way harder than a GE class should be set up to be. While Costello is a good professor, she expects too much of the students when it comes to exams. When the class average on all three exams is around a D, there is a problem with the style of the course.
Challenging GE course. Love the professor. Material in lecture is straight forward but exams are difficult and complex. Textbook is not mandatory although it helps. Only a couple assignments and 3 exams. She curves a little. Don't take this class unless you are ready to study.
DO NOT TAKE IF YOU'RE LOOKING FOR AN "EASY" GE COURSE. The test are extremely hard, she expects way too much from her students. It's suppose to be an intro class but the test seem to be as if they were meant for an upper division geography class. She's nice but it's a really hard class.
Hands down my favorite professor at SDSU. It may not be the easiest subject matter in the world, but she explains things very clearly and makes it as easy as it can be. She is really helpful and really sweet and somehow makes weather and climate really interesting!
This class is not easy at all! There is so much material covered. You don't have to attend class, but if you don't you will miss a lot. Your grade is based off 3 tests and 4 assignments so if you do poorly on just one test your grade will be effected dramatically.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU WANT AN EASY A. The professor is very kind and she does care about her students. Take this class if you are willing to take the time to study A LOT. She is very willing to work with you to get the grade you want, however her expectations are way to high for a GE course.
Molly is super enthtusiastic about what she teaches. All of her tests are based off of her blackboard lectures and you can get by without buying books. workload is minimal, just review her powerpoints before exams and your good. she even curves her grading. i took geol 101, 103 and now 401 with her. great prof
I love professor Costello! She is fun, adorable, nice and very passionate about the topics. She is fair and very knowledgable and makes the class easy and interesting. You go on fun, interesting field trips and have very doable homework assignments. TAKE HER! You will learn and enjoy your time in class.
I LOVE Dr. Costello!! Easily my favorite professor I've had at SDSU so far. Loved her so much I decided to take her hydrology class this far. Took this class as a sophomore, didn't buy the text book, and still got an A-! PowerPoints are posted to blackboard, attendance necessary but makes class fun and worth it.
I love Dr. Costello! She is super enthusiastic, making dry class material interesting and relevant. You must study for exams, they are tough. She gives study guides. Her powerpoints are online, but class attendance is still very important. She balances exam scores with reading responses, math exercises and either a group project or research paper.
Costello is very enthusiastic about teaching meteorology! The few tests she gives are multiple choice & only contain information from her PowerPoints & lectures. Workload & participation are minimal. If you pay attention in class, you shouldn't need to study or even buy the book. She also curves her grading. Overall a good class & good professor.
Very enthusiastic and will work with you until you understand the material. I would recommend the topic and professor to other Geography students
Absolutely amazing class, although challenging. We took 3 field trips (including Yosemite!) to be able to experience the material in the real world. Lots of material but she is so dedicated to her students and will accommodate anybody's needs. Highly recommend!
10/10 would recommend
Inspired me to attend Grad school
So so so sweet. She says that once someone described her as a grizzly bear disguised as a care bare which is completely accurate. 500 level class so you have to work hard but she makes it clear when she expects and as long as you deliver you'll do fine. No textbook or exams but a 10 page research paper.
I love Costello. She is one of the best teachers I've had at SDSU.
Take her. Shes funny and a great teacher. I learned alot and enjoyed going to class.
Dr. Costello is so knowledgeable and passionate, always willing to answer questions. Lots of information in lecture. 3 noncumulative exams. 5 homework assignments, some require going to a thing. 2 field trips, 1 mandatory (or alt. assignment). Amazing. Take this class! 10/10
Provides ample study material in the form of lectures and study guides. Had extra review sessions before the exams that were helpful. Weekly homework were concise and helped cement conceptual understanding. Textbook and reading homework is assigned but not necessary, her lectures are the most important for the exams. There was no final.
Molly's GEOG 370 class was fantastic. She lectures a lot, but every topic she covers is jaw dropping. I genuinely looked forward to class and was amazed by the material that we covered. There were 4 assignments that each took me about 90 minutes. Her tests directly cover the material in class and she uploads all of her slides. Very easy, fun class.
Geog 370 was my favorite class I took at SDSU. Molly really knows her stuff and everything we learned in class is relevant to real life!
Challenging class, you definitely have to attend class to get the most out of her lectures. Dr Costello gives really great lectures and explains everything really well. Class included field trips to tie in everything learned in the class room. Exams are tough and one final group paper is due at the end, which isn't bad when split between 3 people.
What a class! Molly makes a seemingly boring subject so entertaining. Difficult class but worth it for field trips & context. Dont need to buy book if u go to class + pay good attention! GO TO her office hours!! So helpful and will give awesome advice/ resources. Tests are T/F, write-in, and essay questions so you have to know the material.
Dr. Costello is an amazing prof. She is super engaging and stays real current with the weather happening around the U.S. She has very clear expectations and is super helpful during off. hours. The exams are no joke (study hard) and weekly homework is a must. 3 extra credit lectures for attendance through the semester. Just go, you learn a lot!
Dr. Costello is hands down the best lecturer at SDSU and overall the best prof I've ever experienced. She is very kind, funny, and smart. She makes lectures fun and entertaining while also teaching you a lot. She will do her best to help you succeed. Attend lectures, as the exams aren't super easy, but you are given all the opportunities to prepare
The best professor I've had so far! Dr. Costello is very caring and understanding. The tests aren't easy so make sure you study the powerpoints well. Attendance isn't mandatory but go to class because she really tries her best to make it interesting and fun. She grades homework easily, I put minimal effort in overall and almost passed with an A.
Professor Costello's grading and attendance system is unconventional. Professor will mark your grade down for attendance if you leave class early or even arrive late! Quizzes and homework are polar opposite assignments. Basically taught myself the course the whole semester, no extra credit, would not recommend.
Professor Costello is a great professor. She is knowledgeable and caring. Attendance is NOT mandatory - it is for extra credit. The assignments are straightforward and the textbook is not required. Everything on the tests are from the lecture. She records her lectures. There are extra credit assignments if you need them. She is very accessible.
About one homework and quiz each week to recap and expand on the lecture material. Lectures are interesting and updated for current year data and analysis. Also offers extra credit. Professor Costello is a must take professor for SDSU Geography students!
Absolutely love this professor. Makes a boring subject sound fun because of her enthusiasm and passion for weather. Not the easiest material on the quizzes, but she definitely works with you and tries her hardest to help you pass. Emails back pretty quickly and does not overwork her students. Good amount of work with no final or midterm exams!
Dr. Costello is awesome! I took her for 370 and decided to take her again for 570 because I enjoyed her passion for the subject so much. There is A LOT of reading and writing to do, but hey it helps you work on your critical thinking skills. I'm sad I didn't get to get to take this class in person and go on all the field trips!
Dr. Costello is amazing, took both 303 and 401 with her. Her classes are by no means easy, but her enthusiasm for the subjects and drive to help her students as much as possible makes them absolutely worth taking. Very easy to contact outside of class, responds to emails within 24 hours (usually faster). Take her classes, its worth the effort!
Don't get me wrong, Prof Pohl-Costello is super sweet and shows obvious enthusiasm for her lectures, but I don't recommend, at least not for someone outside of the geography major. Her tests and even homeworks were difficult, even if you show up to class every week & read the textbook. I've always been an A student, but I really struggled.
Best professor of my first semester at SDSU!! her hybrid style class makes it easier to pass, and there are weekly assignments and quizzes rather than huge tests which I appreciate. Overall very down to earth and she's funny :) loved learning from her and I hope I can take another class with her!
Prof Costello is great! Good lectures and she's very passionate. I will say, this class is a tough class to get an A in. I'm a good student (got straight A's this semester), but I ended this class with a 94.78% (cutting it close to an A-) and I put a lot of work in. So if you want a solid A, don't slip up lol! Do the reading & go to the field trips
Dr. Costello is an amazing professor. Not only does she do field trips, but she keeps her class content up to date. Really great for getting feedback as well, will always help you out as much as possible if you're polite! She is there to help out students, just make sure to study hard she makes her questions a bit tricky!
An assignment and quiz every week. Assignments are easy points however the quizzes are a bit difficult, approximately 70% mean on all quizzes, and no curve. Has a few opportunities for extra credit that will bump your grade up by 4% if you do all of it. Overall a great professor, clearly passionate about the subject, and eccentric in lectures.
Professor Costello is brilliant and made this the most enjoyable course I've ever taken at SDSU. Even though lectures can last up to nearly 3 hours, the material is always interesting and you will learn so much. Field trips are also offered and they are amazing. There are weekly reading responses and a final group research paper/presentation.
Excited about her material. The field trips are fun, and you usually have time to just enjoy yourself too. She is shockingly understanding, and group projects can have individual grading so don't worry about slackers. One person in my group told her "I lost my wallet so I can't do my part I've had for weeks" and she actually gave an extension.
Dr. Costello is very experienced and intelligent, and always conveys lecture material in a clear/easy to understand way. She schedules field trips (Yosemite and Anza Borrego!!) bc above all she really wants you to succeed and have fun understanding geomorphology. She is the most passionate professor you'll ever meet, take her class if you can.
Costello is so great! I really enjoyed her lectures and the class was really rewarding. She always related things we learned and homework we had to real world examples. It was one of the only classes I took where I felt like it would actually help me in the real world. highly recommend for sustainability students needing a 500 level class!
The professor is so nice/caring, but if you are looking for an easy A, don't do it! The class itself isn't very difficult, it's just a lot of work for a GE when there are so many easier classes you can take. Weekly quizzes and assignments, no large tests/papers, but rarely are the assignments anywhere online & questions are class-specific.
Although attendance was never mandatory her lectures were always very interesting to listen and important for the exercises! Consists of an exercise or quiz weekly. No midterm or final and a few extra credit assignments to help. Grades were curved at the end. Really passionate and cares about teaching. A little harsh but easy if you pay attention.
