She used to be nice but I think she's turned to the dark side. She seems to be on a power trip these days. I wouldn't recommend taking her class unless you have A LOT of time. If your a procrastinator absolutly do not take her class because you won't make it out alive.
Okay so, it's pretty obvious anyone that's had a problem with Molly is just ridiculously lazy and/or retarded, right? I'm both of those and I still do alright. p.s. I have a dog named Molly.
Molly can be cool. Unfortunately, she's also moody as hell. She likes to be more of a friend than a teacher and this can be problematic/conflicting. As far as class goes, though, she is well-educated and knows what she's talking about. I'd recommend her if you aren't into structured lectures.
Molly was tough, however, fair and helpfull
Even if she is very easy one the eyes she is not a good teacher. Never was really shown how to wright a paper. And the 30 day project is nothign more than a cop out to teaching. I do not recomend her, stay far away from any class she teaches.
she is an awesome teacher.. she keeps it interesting.. i hate writing papers ..molly took the time to help answer any questions i had.. she will make you think, its not easy but well worth it.. only take her if you are ready to talk and have an oppinion..
She was a good teacher in the sense that she was pretty lenient and stuff. We didnt learn much so if you're going for an english major i wouldnt recommend her, but if your going to eng 103 just cause u need it to finish gen ed, i recommend her, she is nice and very easy to get along with. Good Teacher!
Best english teacher I've had. Period.
Molly is a great tacher. My class has never met for the whole class time and she lets us decide on what we want our papers on. She is very helpful and always has her office door open for questions. Don't BS in her class because she can tell!
Molly is a great professor. She has a pretty laid back teaching approach and always encourages opinions. If you don't understand something, she is more than willing to explain papers, tests, etc. I recommend taking her class.
Easily one of my favorites, I'll take any class of hers. Very laidback teaching style, work can be hard, but relevant. Little text use. Incredibly smart and funny, though her tests are hard and she doesn't grade easily (you will earn everything you get, promise) her classes are well worth it. I learned so much from her, and she's very supportive.
Tis true, she is very funny and laid-back. Has great taste in movies. You get to study a lot of interesting movies and books in her Film As Lit class. However, it is not all fun and games; she is definitely one tough cookie. She expects a lot out of her students. The tests are hard! Take english 101 first!! Procrastinators, stay away.
Molly is an awsome teacher. She treats her students like adults. She is fun and almost motherly and truely cares about your well being. She asks that you e-mail or call her to let her know your not coming to class. Overall amazing human being!
Shes a really gooood teacher! I really enjoy going to this class and its defiantly somethint that ive learned and had a great time!! :)
She is an awesome teacher. The style is so different and she has not forgotten what it was like to be in college. She is very considerate of she students. Her assignments are easy. She didn't require a book this semester. I've always been a little nervous with English classes but I seriously love this class!
Didn't get papers back for a long time. She is super nice though! Her 30 Days project is hard, so beware! She is very helpful! :)
Molly is a wonderful teacher. She will respect you if try to do your best. Do beware, Get off on the right foot with her and you will love her.
I had to drop this class because of how bad the teacher was. The volunteer project is a joke. You do understand that college students have a lot of homework and work don't you Mrs. Sides? Teacher also lazily came to class often, I didn't want to be there, just like her.
Molly is an OUTSTANDING teacher! She is easy to talk to if you need help. Her 30 Days Project fits an ENG103 course perfectly, but it is a difficult project. Don't take her class as an 8 week course unless you are prepared to work your ass off! The courses she teaches that are not ENG103 are some of the best. She is a great Professor at Rock Valley
Professor Sides is the best English teacher I have ever had. Your whole semester revolves around a final 10-12 page paper, but each week a small assignment is due that, when added up, make the final paper a breeze to write. She is a little detached but if you approach her with questions she clarifies everything and has GREAT ideas.
If you are majoring in English OR love to write I'd say take this professor, but if you taking it because you need it do not take Mrs. Sides. The 30 day project is ridiculous, and you don't know your grade until the end of semester. LOVELY
SUPER AWESOME FORGET THE H8ERS
FAVORITE TEACHER EVER!!! :)
I had Professor Sides for Eng 103 and really enjoyed the course. She was a little disorganized grading-wise, but she really made the classes revolve around the 30 day project and structured them to help you out the most. She even dedicated a whole class to helping you write your thesis! Awesome professor if you are comfortable guessing your grade
She was nice at first but you are guessing what ur grade is the whole semester. I worked my ass off in creative writing and barely got a B. Easy class but if ur poems aren't up to her standards, watch out. She nitpicks everything.
Sides is one of the best teachers I have had at rvc! she truely sticks to her unique 30 days projects. It makes for a truely well rounding experiance that makes people who really don't care all that much about english want to come to class! If you don't want to be in a boring stuffy english class TAKE HER!
I honestly hated this class and the professor, she was all about a 30 day project which was ridiculous, she was very unorganized, and very scatterbrained, English is not my favorite and she made it way worse, you have to guess your grade, overall very bad professor and experience.
I took creative writing from her (I forget the class number). She's a pretty good prof. overall, she makes pop culture references constantly. She favours certain genres a bit. You do have to guess at your grade but she's not a hard grader. She's one of the more personable teachers at the school.
i thought molly was intimidating. i did not like her. she goes off on random tangents all the time. she is not organized and its hard to follow along with her.
Consistently late. Sets a general syllabus so that she is not committed to a schedule of what she will cover in class. You never know your grade. Things she has graded she does not support with comments so you never know how to improve the next paper and there is no rubix. Expects alot from students but doesn't hold herself to the same standards.
Very nice and very helpful however, I was not a fan of the thirty days project.
Molly is an alright teacher, however, the movies I was forced to suffer through are films no one should be forced to watch. They were mostly artsy, with bad directing. The kind of film critics praise, but end up in the bargain bin at Wal-Mart.
I really liked her class, it was really laid back. It was an easy "B" for me. There were no exams in her Eng 103 course, just a few papers. The first day of class she brought in oranges and we wrote a paper about them, it was the most fun I've had in college. Not sure why there is so much negative feedback, I'd recommend her.
Molly Sides is awesome. If you did not do well in her class you must not have cared enough to try! She is aware that not everyone is a "writer"; she just asks that you try your hardest. She gives everyone equal opportunity to succeed in this course. We did not End up following the syllabus exactly BUT this is college..you never do
She's ok, but I wish I had another professor. She talked too much about her personal problems.
she was a wonderful teacher and honestly even if you aren't an English major if you show up and do the activities (which are fun) you will pass.
She is nice and understanding about personal problems. But she had us do very strange assignments. We learned A LOT about different cultures which is cool but this is an ENGLISH class!!! Also we wrote a TON of papers and I found her to be a harsh grader.
Prof. Sides was okay. Received an A so cant complain too much. I took her hybrid class and we did a semester long research. She is a slow grader and talks a lot of random crap about herself which annoyed me. Seems unorganized at times.
The class itself was stupid. She really loved using pictures to tell stories so not much writing was done. Do NOT take her. She is picky and she blamed my class for not knowing how to write when she hadn't taught us a thing
Professor Sides is really nice, motherly, and tells lots of stories about herself. She is willing to help whenever possible.
Great teacher who is really nice deep down. My best advice is if you have any trouble just be nice and respect her and she'll do everything in her power to help.
Very cool, just seek her help
She is nice but her I would not recommend her class at all. Although the topics were interesting I spent HOURS on projects that were a waste of time (mindless tasks). Copying and pasting almost an entire chapter of the book, googling faces, etc. Hours I could've spent studying/learning something... Also consistently behind on grading.
My experience was very good. As long as you've spent time writing your essays, you'll do fine. Alongside the essays, she has this literature, research, and discussion about various multicultural authors.
prof. was extremely arrogant, angry, and childish. She used the class as way to promote her political beliefs and enlighten her "ignorant" students. The workload was extensive and pointless, but she kept singing the tune of "mother knows best". She took attendance as if students were in elementary school. late returning papers. Avoid at all costs.
Prof. Sides was intimidating when I started the class. Honestly, I did not think I would care for her. That being said, by the end of the semester I really grew to appreciate her. Yes, she is slow at grading (she admits it!) and yes, she is a hard grader but she helped me so much with writing/critical thinking. I left her class a better student!
Honestly, taking Prof. Sides was the worst decision I made at RVC. She is condescending, arrogant, and doesn't teach anything. She assigns tons of homework, but instead of teaching the class how to do it she relies on hand-outs with the information so she can use the class time to tell stories and go over the same material again and again.
She is a nice person and all but I just don't have time to do 5 assignments at once. Maybe if this was my only class it would be better, but I am doing tons of work and not learning anything.
I honestly disliked her method of teaching and i do not recommend her. I thought english 103 was about papers and research based off of them not a reading course. She does not explain things well and is very strict and judgmental when it comes to grading. DISLIKE.
Do not take this class unless it's online. Professor Sides had not put the grades in for assignments I clearly turned in. I do no recommend her also because she seems nice, but doesn't stay on topic in class.
Tough but fair. I feel she grades to ability. I read some of my peers' papers, and let's just say that she's a saint for even reading some of the drivel she gets from students. Conversely, the students who are already writers WILL become better. She's kind and understanding.
Did not explain things well at all. Very condescending when it came to feedback and the class. Very frustrating when you ask for clarification and you don''t get it. Avoid this professor and find another or take the class elsewhere.
I honestly really liked Professor Sides and her class. Yes, she is a tough grader but I got A's on every paper. If you are willing to try hard, you will get a good grade and will learn alot about writing creatively. She is really nice if you are respectful!
Don't care for her teaching method, you basically have to teach everything to yourself. Learned way more about her personal life than anything to do with English.
Don't waste your time or money.
I really liked Professor Sides although I do understand how she might not be every ones cup of tea. If you need a teacher to hold your hand through every step of the writing process shes not for you. I had a fairly good writing background, and found her essay topics to be unique and her expectations to be very clear. I enjoyed her class.
Professor Sides is very understanding. Very tough grader but will show you how to improve on your papers. The first 4-5 weeks of class you have alot of homework. She has either a quiz or paper due every week. If she falls behind on grading she will extend due dates on assignments. Her class was very interesting. I would take her again.
I had to fight for my Grade. Very confusing. Didn't give good detailed instructions. I had to ask what exactly she wanted because the first assignment she said I missed the point of it but yet said I did what she asked me to do. I still do not understand what she meant by that.
Professor Sides is one of my favorite professors at RVC. She made going to class enjoyable and she was always available to answer any questions. I did well in her class, but I also put quite a bit of time into the papers she assigned. Overall though, she seemed to grade well as long as the criteria was met and as long as you put the effort in!
An easy class. If you show up to class and pay attention, you'll pass. She has a great teaching method. She likes to help, you just have to ask for it. Her lectures are something I can relate to, which keeps me intrested.
Multiple papers as expected in an English course, so no surprise there. However, took far too long to grade papers after submission. I had submitted three papers before getting feedback on the first, that wasn't productive for development. It seemed that the professor had taken on too many courses in the semester and couldn't keep up.
I feel like I haven't learned anything! She is a great person. She doesn't teach us much but expects us to remember every rule in writing. SHE IS SUCH A TOUGH GRADER. I always got A's in my papers, she has given me low B's. I even got help from an english major but she still finds a way to take take points off.
She is an understanding teacher if something goes wrong, but in class she is a terrible teacher. She gets off topic all the time and talks about her kid the whole time. Very tough grader on papers and she takes a long time to return papers. Would not recommend her.
Professor Sides was fantastic! She did a great job explaining everything and takes personal interest in you and your grade. She was very easy to understand and made the class very easy. She also had a great sense of humor. Great prof, I'll definitely take her again.
Professor Sides is a fantastic teacher but you should expect to work for your grade (after all it is college). Professor Sides does not give paper-pencil tests (no final exam), instead your grade is based primarily on three papers. If you are looking for a great English professor she's the one for you, but you must to be willing to work.
One of the worst experiences taking a class. The assignments are not clear, and she was no help at all despite half the class asking her clarify what the assignments were. She got mad at the whole class that we kept asking the question.
She was the worst teacher I've ever had. I had her for an online class. She takes days to reply to your messages asking for help or clarification and when she does it is no help at all. We were assigned a paper at the beginning of the semester and it was not graded until there was only week left of the semester. Tough grader. Wouldn't recommend.
mid term paper was not graded until closer to finals. there is very little clarity given on assignments. 2 papers carry your grade. I was beginning to write my final paper with out knowing my mid term paper grade. when receiving a b on my mid term paper she gave no feed back... Feedback was important because I could have gotten an a in the class
AVOID THIS PROFESSOR! She offers little clarity on assignments. Don't expect grades or feedback on your assignments, until close to the end of semester. If you ask a question, expect a rude comment in response. This course was taken online, she will add assignments without warning, due within 24-48 hours. She's unorganized and inconsistent.
She interrupts students frequently, always to put in her word. Her normal talking voice is stern and sounds like she's mad all the time like a parent giving a lecture. It's annoying to listen to. You will frequently hear her talk about her own success or how brilliant her children are. She grades slowly. She is proud and it is obvious.
Professor Sides is one of my favorite teachers. I took her 206 & 207 classes before 101 &103, so I knew her going into 101 and what quality of work was expected. The best thing you can do is get to know your professors and show interest in learning from them. Side note, Profs have lives out side of RVC so don't assuming reasons for their actions..
She gives a lot of freedom on papers.
I had Professor Sides in Eng101 once a week. Her class was really worth it. Helped me gain my full potential in my essays and I learned so much about respect for others. She would always give her opinion on things and she had strong evidence to support herself which made others see her points of view. Easy and fun class to be in. Would take again.
One of the worst professors at RVC. Not clear at all, and can be condescending with feedback. Her overall rating should be much lower than this, as it makes it look like she's a slightly above average prof, when she is clearly not. Slow with communication, and poor feedback.
Sides is not very good at giving feedback and what little she does give back is condescending and not much help. She takes forever to grade assignments and is a tough grader.
Takes forever to grade papers, and gives terrible feedback.
I personally didn't think she was good. She never gave us work and that doesn't help much with your grade
I had Professor Sides for an ENG101 hybrid summer course, and I absolutely enjoyed it. She gives a lot of freedom with papers, and doesn't give a ton of homework. There are strict guidelines and high expectations, but as long as you go along with them, the class will be a breeze.
Molly is very caring about her students and is very knowledgeable in her field. She is a single parent, so you need to be patient because she has a life outside of college too.
I liked Professor Sides. Her class features several smaller essays, as well as two larger expansion essays. The large essays are a big part of the grade, be careful. She gave an extra credit assignment which really padded my grade as well. Also, there are discussions and online quizzes. As long as you stay on top of things, getting an A is doable.
Professor Sides is AMAZING! She is one of my favorite professors. She truly cares about her students. I had her for Eng 101 as well. She definitely challenged me with my papers. She is a tough, but gives great feedback. Work hard and show up to class, you'll have no problem passing.
She is no good to put boldly. She is a very tough grader. I sent her an email wanting to revise an assignment and she never responded. Immature and unprofessional. She also told our class that we were the whiniest class of her semester; I shook my head. She also gives vague feedback that does not help you improve your writing. She was always late.
If you want a professor who actually cares for you this is it. What she may like in organization she makes up in flexibility. Extensions while not encouraging you to request them are given under the right circumstances. The material is clear and the class itself is very free and flowing. Take this class if you want to be a better writer!
Where do I even start? A harsh grader to the point where even when I did get help from the writing center and tutored from people who are retired English teachers, it still wasn't good enough. She would still find things wrong with everything I did. It one of those classes where "its not me, its the teacher" kind of moment. Run!!!!!!!! just run!!!!
Shes okay. Her class is well organized, with quite a few good examples to help with assignments. Youll do 2pg papers every two or so weeks, fairly easy. 2 expansions (extended from your 2pagers) that are tougher. She grades tough, but you can get an A. The text isnt necessary, use it maybe once, to review for the final.
She is a very tough grader and there is a paper every 2 weeks. There are 2 paper expansions that are heavily graded. She does not provide feedback at all. She told us she will not write our paper for us. She directed me to upswing tutoring and the tutor told me my paper was good and helped me correct it and I still received a low score from.
Professor Sides is an awesome professor. She may be a tough grader at times, but I never noticed that she graded unfairly. She truly cares about and gets to know every student in class. There are a decent amount of papers due throughout the semester, but her expectations are always made completely clear. I really enjoyed her class!
Professor Sides is not only a great teacher, she also understands and cares about her students. Yes her class has a lot of writing but its english thats what you do in an English class! She is one of the best.
She gives horrible feedback, takes at least a week to answer almost all emails, she grades absolutely terribly. I asked her multiple times why I got grades I did and was looking at the rubric and I deserved a much higher grade, she said to "look at the rubric" I did that and I didn't deserve half of the low grades I got. Worst English teacher ever.
Below average emotional professor. Avoid her at all costs.
I don't get why a lot of people don't like Sides. I took her during the Summer and loved her and her class! She'll go easy on you if you show up to class everyday and put in literally the minimum effort. She assigns articles, so you don't have to buy a textbook. There are a lot of papers but the majority of them only need to be a few pages long.
Professor Sides was not very helpful in class and liked to talk about herself and her family which got annoying at times, but overall her assignments were very easy so I didnt really need her help. She was very forgiving once quarantine happened but in her normal classes she did not mess around when it came to attendance and turning in papers.
This instructor is not accessible at any time. Assignments are not graded in a timely manor, so you are never sure what your grade is going to be.
Takes forever to grade papers. By the time you're working on the Project 1 paper, the first 2 have just been graded, giving very little time to make the requested adjustments.
She gives many papers and offers little to no feedback on it, and takes forever to grade. Like we will have completed 3 papers, and she still did not grade the first. On the papers she does not explain why she takes off points. Additionally, Molly Sides never once talked to the class about different topics we were writing about. Overall the worst.
You never know what she wants
She was strict and tough, and it was a long semester of hard work. However, she helped when I reached out and explained everything. It was hard work, but I was able to get a good grade.
Does the bare minimum. Doesn't teach just tells us what to do with minimal feedback. At the beginning of the semester, I had Oaks and he was amazing, then at midterms, they switched and my grade dropped. Also doesn't grade things until the end of the semester so your grade drops all at once.
She is horrible! Her grading is poor. I spend 3-4 hours a week completing her assignments and it's never good enough. You never know what she wants. I have never struggled with an English class so much. Don't bother emailing her for help she will make you feel bad or will just simply not reply. I do not recommend her AT ALL! Run as fast as you can
Did not help at all and did not provide feedback. Assignments were graded after a month of turning them in.
Molly sides was the absolute worst English teacher I have ever had in all my years of education. Her class was honestly fairly easy but she made it much more difficult. She rarely had things graded on time, most of the time assignments would be returned 2 weeks after completing them. She is impossible to get in contact with, she rarely responds
I wouldnt even call her a teacher. I would ask for help and she would basically resend the directions to me in her own words which did not help me. There are almost essays EVERY week if not every other. The entire semester she never had anything graded so I never knew what my updated grade was. I was close to passing and she failed me on thefinal
The only negative I could say is that she takes forever to grade but she makes it clear on the first day that she is a single parent and puts her kids first. I love the way that she made a strong connection with her students. As for the bad ratings on her- I have no clue where they come from. Maybe they are bad at writing and took things personally
If you're a student who wants clarity of what the lesson is or ask questions, then this professor will not fit your needs. Find another professor that will meet your needs.
One of the worst professors I've had at Rock Valley. The class is just too much and she is an extremely tough grader. She will also take the entire semester to grade your essays so you won't know what your real grade is looking like until the end of the semester, but turning in anything a day late is just "unacceptable." Avoid at all costs.
Terrible communication, not clear at all on how to do assigned work. Got mad at students asking questions. I signed up to be taught and to able to ask questions if I didn't understand something, but it was the opposite.
Easy class as long as you participate. Don't understand the complaints whatsoever she assigns the easiest assignments and gives you weeks on end to finish with class time every week to do it. Easy teacher, very nice, very easy class assignments and step by step instructions.
Professor Sides is one of a kind. Even though, she has a busy and stressful life outside of school, she tries her hardest to provide for her students. She is strong, caring, and dedicated. I have never connected to a professor like I connected with her. I am very grateful to have started my college career with her and I hope to see her again!
I took ENG-108 (Intro to Creative Writing) with Professor Sides and am taking ENG-109 (Creative Writing II) with her this semester. As a professor, she is fun and easy to communicate with. The materials in class are always clear and the expectations for each assignment are written out in a way that is easy to understand.
Professor Sides would take forever to grade major assignments and when she would finally get to them, she would provide little feedback and you would get random points docked off. The course itself was easy, but she is the worst professor I've had so far. Do not take this course with her
She takes a long time to grade, which can be frustrating if you're not sure you did the same type of assignment well the first time. Her lectures only consist of her posting material from Master Class or other sources. I did a lot of research independently and learned more from there than from this class.
I took this class
I took this class to grow as a writer. I received no feedback, no direction, and ultimately learned nothing!
Great professor! I loved taking her English class!
Just a simple English class. I myself am not a big reading/writing guy so it was okay but Professor Sides was a respectable teacher.
I withdrew from the class because it was so repetitive and honestly stressing me out. People warned me to not take Sides and I wish I listened. She is a very harsh grader and made me feel insecure about my poetry. She also takes a very long time to grade and give feedback. The feedback is not even helpful. I would not recommend taking her.
Taking this online, she was very hard to contact. She took forever to grade assignments, so you never knew your true grade in the class. When grading papers, she didn't provide feedback; she just gave you a grade for it. Overall, the class was not hard, but she was slow at grading, and you were unable to get in contact with her at times.
Professor Sides seems like a nice and caring person; however, she provides very minimal feedback, docks points without elaborating, can sometimes come across as passive agressive, and takes a while to grade (although I understand life gets in the way). I don't feel as though my writing skills have improved. Not too bad though.
