Lectures are less than useless. You have to learn everything from the textbook but still waste time with mandatory attendance. MP homeworks are about 2-3 hours long every week and reading the textbook is the only way you'll learn anything. Nice guy, terrible class.

Professor Velkovsky is not a good lecturer, as he goes on long tangents and is very boring. The weekly Mastering Physics homework assignments are very long, but he is very understanding about giving extensions. Although the exams are online, they are three hours long and very hard. I would not recommend taking his class if you don't have to.

He is fine. Not a good lecturer, but exams are virtual and open note/internet. He's way too smart for his job teaching intro physics. Pretty available for office hours.

Lectures are boring, but just show up, as participation is 8% of your grade. 3 mid-terms and a final, all take-home.

Dr. Velkovsky is very passionate about physics, but he is not the best lecturer. He would go on tangents and spend all of class on 1-2 problems that were very hard and confusing. Exams were really hard but online. The homeworks were long and difficult. Attendance isn't mandatory but you need TopHat credit to drop the lowest midterm.

Simply put, the man is a terrible lecturer in a class that is already somewhat complex. Lectures are mind numbing and class requires an unreasonably large time commitment.

I have no idea what this man was talking about in my entire semester of going to class. There is so much homework, and exams are on mastering physics. Physics 2 is incredibly difficult. Good luck!

Let me put it this way: if I was preparing for his exams and was given the option of 5 hours alone with Velkovsky where he would answer all my questions or 5 minutes with a cereal box, I would choose the cereal box -- because at least then I'd learn something. Yes, Velkovsky is VERY kind, but he can't teach to save his life.

Professor Velkovsky is not a very good lecturer. I genuinely think that my time would have been better spent skipping class and reviewing on my own, but there are TopHat questions that count for a participation grade, and I didn't want to lose those points. His lecture was somehow tedious and uninteresting while also shallow.

A very nice person, but a very unengaging lecturer. Lectures had little to do with the homework, and the textbook had convoluted content. Almost entirely self-taught. Asking him for help will leave you more confused than you started out with. Though, he was generous with homework attempts. There are in-class TopHat questions for participation pts.

Professor Velkovsky is very kind and passionate about physics, but he simply cannot teach at the introductory undergraduate level. The class material is manageable and genuinely interesting if you read the textbook and self teach. However, his lectures are pretty much counter-productive to learning physics.

DO NOT go to his office hours and make a pun with his first name and tell him that he should tell his mother, "Mom! Chill!" He will actually kick you out and never speak to you again.

Nice person but the worst prof I've had at Vanderbilt. E&M is already insanely difficult & his tangents / contradictions made it even harder to follow along. Taught myself off YouTube b/c his lectures actually left me more confused instead of less.

His lectures are extremely drawn out and the 75 min feels like 3 hrs. There are times though when we talked about some really interesting stuff especially towards the end of the class. Tests are online and take home. Hes accessible and a kind person so dont be afraid to go to office hours.

HUGE mistake taking Velkovsky over Dutta. If your fine with cheating and learning nothing, this is your class! If you want to learn physics all on your own because the reverse-classroom lectures are useless and confusing, please sign on up! Velkovsky is a nice old guy and at least tries to help out in office hours, but overall waste of my time.
