Very unclear on the material presented and not willing to put much effort/time into helping students.
This teacher taught the subject clearly and effectively. Her tests are hard with a few curve ****, but fair. A student really needs to understand the subject, not just basic mechanics. She definitly did her job preparing students for the next level.
Not willing to help you very much. She's a bit ****y, not a very good attitude. Her material is fairly easy to understand but she grades the tests kind of hard. Would not really recommend her.
It was my most difficult class so far, but given the lessons she had to teach, I'm not sure how she could have made it easier. Be prepared to not go over material extensively, so if you don't get something either move on or go over it on your own.
She was the worst math teacher I have ever had. I liked the curve on tests & we had open book tests, but I didnt like how she wouldnt answer our ?'s & contstantly made errors on the board. She said that the math lab could answer our ?'s better th
Wanted the class to start class before she arrived-- very strange in my opinion
She is an ok teacher but she has a really bad attitude and does not pay attention to her students. If you are not already in her class I would recommend that you not have her as a teacher.
She is the worst math teacher I have ever had. She teaches everything two different ways so by the end of the lecture you will be so confused. When seeking help she tells you to go to the tutor. She should not be teaching math because she doesn't seem to understand it herself!!
I really liked her. she's friendly and willing to help. I loved that she wrote each step in full sentences on the board so you could copy it down and work the problems exactly the way you're supposed to at home. that really helped me understand things.
beside being late for class every time, she seemed to lack confidence in her lectures, so without her notes she would mess up. learning algebra is hard if you dont get taught, she offered her help, which was good, but with so many problems it was hard not overlookfing it.
Always late, but in return not too strict on attendence; grades the homework like a test. Speeking of tests..they are very difficult, and she doesn't teach the material very clear at all! Lack of confidence, students have confronted her in class, but she probably agrees with us that she doesn't know what she is talking about.
Gave us a surprise assignment where we had to grade another classmate's "story" assignment. can't communicate very well, does not follow her syllabus, and fails to inform the class when a test has been curved (Curves are extraordinarily stupid anyways). She does give out the answers to tests and some homeworks with explanations. NOT RECOMMENDED!!!
This class is not easy. Teacher comes in late and rushes through her lecture. She doen't really have time to answer questions for lecture or homework. But if you get on her good side she tends to help more. If not then off to the math center. 5 quizes and a final. If must take this class she is better than the rest. Good Luck.
this class was very easy.easy A for me.some students made it harder than it really was, they got to technical and it really wansn't that hard. if you pay attention to the lectures and take good notes, you will find it very easy. dont make the class harder than it really is. its just learning how to explain elementary math.
She is by far the worst teacher, her voice is straight up annoying, she teaches really bad, but it doesnt matter anyway b/c everything she does i already know...dont take her i highly recommend it dont you'll regret it
she is very unclear when she teaches, she makes a simple problem very confusing, i can tell she tries but she just doesnt explain things well at all.
she is very unclear when she teaches, she makes a simple problem very confusing, i can tell she tries but she just doesnt explain things well at all. She is late to class.
The worst math teacher I've ever had, she always thinks that what she teaches is "kindof easy", but it never is. She has this thing where she expects things to be easier than they are and that her students automatically understanding everything the first time around. Plus she dosn't help you at all if have a question. DO NOT TAKE HER!
She's not very good at what she teaches. Whenever anyone had a question she'd tell you to go to the math center. She didn't act like she knew the subject at all. She's very nice but not a good teacher. She was very unclear about what she taught and the students would have to correct her alot. She also gave alot of unnecessary homework.Dont take her
HW bonus to make up for low test. Fair and willing to help when I came outside class time. Easy class for me cause I did the homework. Hard for friend who didn't.
Very bad teacher, she does the problems herself and expects students to follow and understand with no explination. She is very bad with grading, never give homework back at a reasonable time to study for tests, she knocks off points for dumb reasons, her voice is very annoying! She isn't helpful at all. Not Recommended.
i really enjoyed this teacher! there were times when she rushed through the math sections, but she was always there with a hand to help! i really learned a lot from her! There was always homework every night, but it was difficult, and if you did have questions on the homework, she would try her best to fit time into class to answer them.
nice teacher
She is a very sweet lady; however, she tends to put tricky questions on her tests, which can make you lose a lot of points. Her lectures are good and she knows the material. I wouldn't recommend her if you are poor at test taking.
She is the worst professor you can have for math class.
She is the worst teacher I have ever had. She doesn't elaborate the materials. She doesn't answer much of students' questions.
her teaching was cruel. she kept telling us to use our common sense, as if we were dumb. her tests are a pain, and homework is only 5% of your grade. she's just a waste of time, if you ask me. i wouldn't suggest her.
Her class was really useful for me even though it was a little bit boring. You have to fully concentrate on her lecture to keep up with her rapid teaching. The test questions are pretty much same as the homework questions, therefore the tests were super easy.Unfortunatelly, you need to turn in your homework every day.By the way,My overall grade was A+
She tries to be very clear and helpful, but she is too strict on attendance, very tough almost impossible tests, and I get the sense she gets sort of offended when I ask her questions during her lecture. However, she did force me to get my act together and when I retook the class in summer I got a B. I recommend students not take her.
She told us that we should sign up for a 42A class and only one of her students that did not sing up pass last year. I think that is BS. Math is easy. I do not think she will be a good Prof. She loves to give out homework but it is really easy. Done HW though ch 3 and it is just the first day. Just my first thoughts. She thinks school is everything
out of control rediculous. horrible grade weighting and the class is too accelerated with assignments for anyone who also has a life haha. i felt like keeping my life, dont choose this professor if you are busy.
She was extremly nice and eager to answer questions. The tests can be difficult but are easy if you do the homework and pay attention in class.
I thought that this proffesor was helpful and overall a good teacher. I do not think that it is really the teacher that people arnt really liking, just the subject. If you keep up on the hw the tests are pretty easy. She also gives extra credit for homework so its great.
She made a relatively difficult class even more difficult and confusing. Her tests were almost impossible. When you ask her questions she gives you an uncomfortable look, and gets defensive. Near the end of the semester there were 5 people left in class and I withdrew shortly after. It was good review, I retook this class in the summer and got a B.
I found her to want very much to provide a solid knowledge of the information. She constantly offered help, but if you weren't participating you would get left behind. She makes people personally responsible but truly seems to want people to succeed. The accelerated time frame was frustrating but not unachievable.
HORRIBLE!!! Everyone drops her class and she doesnt help you worth crap! Dont bother asking her a question you will just piss her off.
Might as well teach yourself. Does 3 or 4 homework examples in class. Does not go over HW questions or exams. We blow through 2 sections a day. I get more out of reading the book.
Do not take this teacher! You can do all the homework, and understand 90% of the material and still struggle with the tests. And the tests are everything! I was a straight "A" student up until this class.
I was in the same class as last 2 posters. I liked the class, but we had to go fast sometimes because the same students would come with questions every class. She worked examples similiar to the book's. When I got hung up I went to office hours for help or e-mailed. The tests are like the HW. Make sure you understand the HW for an A.
I dropped Math 60 in the fall because it went too fast and the teacher was insane. Prof. Ellis took time in class to make sure we understood the sections before we left class. She gave us review sheets before tests and workbook problems to get extra points. The class was challenging and I learned a lot. The tests were like the homework problems
Horrible Teacher! I wouldn't even call her a teacher...she doesn't teach you anything! Comes late to class everyday..gives you 55 minutes to take a test that should take a normal person 2 hours and regardless of your attendance and homework if you fail a test you fail the class! She is ridculous and doesnt teach at all!
Ms Ellis really cares about her students. She took extra time to help me overcome issues with my disability. She encouraged me more than any instructor has. She made math understandable. Tests were predictable from the homework. I will take her in the fall.
She said she's teach us what we needed to know to do well in College Algebra. I took it the next semester and had a much easier time than most the class. I'm glad I took her for Math 60 so I didn't fail 110 like 1/3 of the class did. She was easy to understand as long as I made sure to do the homework. I learned a lot. I hope to take her again
I took her for 60 so I knew I'd have to do the homework and ask questions when I needed extra help. The class was pretty easy since I really knew Math 60. I was able to take 110 at the same time. Although that 110 teacher was easier, I didn't learn near as much as I did in Prof. Ellis's class.
This is very easy to pass class, but if you want a good grade just make sure to do all the homework and you should get at least a B, plus there are extra credit options. Getting an A its not difficult. Office hours help a lot. highly recommended if you are planing to take more math after this.
Assumes all students have taken Math 110 already. Not good at explaining...anything. 50 minute timed tests-no exceptions. Homework is only 3 pts added to final grade. Grade is all based on test scores. Willing to help, but vague in explanations. Covers too much material too quickly. Probably better for more advanced math takers.
Don't take her class. She expects everyone to understand right away. Doesn't wait for everyone to catch up and speeds through everything. 17 students failed the first test and 12 got a D. I have gotten A's and B's in all my math classes except for this one. She has really messy writing which is very hard to understand. She is just bad at teaching.
Difficult to follow in class. She works 3 of the homework problems, says homework isn't mandatory then right before first test says if you don't hand in any homework, she'll request you drop the class. Huge amount of homework, only 3 points extra total. No extra credit.
Terrible at explaining, hard to keep up or keep awake in class. Most of the class dropped halfway through because she makes no sense. DOESNT like kids on financial aid. Will fail you for missing a class. Overall hard to keep up. Not recommended at all.
She is the worst teacher! Do not take her! I am good at math and failed her class because the amount of homework she gives is ridiculous. Going to class is a waste of time but it is mandatory. You can learn more by teaching yourself!
I couldn't handle sitting through her classes. It seems like she is pretty much reading straight out of the book and not teaching...there is also A LOT OF HOMEWORK EVERY NIGHT...I mean the class is still manageable, but if you can find a different open math course, I suggest you do so.<br> PS if you have financial aid, attendance is mandatory for h
extremely hard class if you are taking it make sure you have a personal tutor if not get ready to go to office hours or math lab
does not know how to teach. Always makes constant mistakes while teaching yet she grades her test extremely hard.Only 3 test and a final and she puts questions that most people have problems with. Easily falls behind her schedule so she keeps going at a fast pace. Recommends that no one takes her b/c most of the people who do drop or fail her class
She wasn't the best math teacher I've ever had but her class was very fair. My one complaint is that she tended to make mistakes during lecture. However, she is extremely approachable and will help you if you don't understand something. She encourages students to really understand the material and you can tell she wants them to succeed.
She is very good at math but she doesnt know how to convey that to students. She messes up frequently, at least 3 times per class, which made an already very hard class even harder. I thought her tests were fair, but definitely not easy. Get as much help as you can for this class. I went to the math lab almost every week and I still got my first C.
I've had 4 classes with her so far and its hard to focus on the lesson because her errors are so distracting. She spent 30 mins of our 1hr30min class explaining how to use a graphing calculator. It was irritating. She's a nice lady though.
Great Proffesor I just wasn't prepared would take her again in a second don't know what everyone else is talking about she gave you the informatiion clearly and answered questions well. JA
Awfull. wosrt teacher i have ever had. treats you like you are in middle school and have a learning disability
She is great at teaching
dont take her, she is really annoying and treats you like you are 12. she always makes mistakes and is juts plain annoying. DONT DO IT
This is a college course, you have to do work. She is nice and tries to help you understand the context- if you ask questions. dont be afraid to speak up. She assigns a lot of homework, but it was a good thing because i used that as studying. She gives out a study guide for the test too. I really liked her. It's sad she got a low score.
She is a caring a kind woman and w/o her I would not have passed.Math56 is 6 unit class; be prepared to do the homework and study a lot. She explains the topics pretty clearly and shows multiple ways how to do things. To address people saying she makes mistakes; She does make mistakes here and there, but that is only human. I would recommend her.
Instructor mainly focused on problem-solving methods and does not readily explain the application of abstract concepts. Lots of HW assigned that is not graded but is essential for doing well in the class. Will need to spend 2-3 hours every day on HW and attend office hours. The real kicker in this class is the breadth of material in each chapter and the way that the class builds on itself. If you're keeping up with all the concepts the exams aren't too difficult
Mrs. Ellis is a wonderful math teacher. She's not easy and there is about 2 hours of homework every night. Sometimes a bit confusing during lectures but always takes questions and very helpful at office hours. Tests fair and easy, somtimes even with extra credit points. If you do the homework, study, and come to class you will do great.
This was a pretty frustrating class for me. Although she is a very nice & helpful instructor, she does not get the conceptual ideas across very clearly. The exam study guides tell you the types of problems you'll need to know. Homework is extra credit. Fair class but requires a tremendous amount of time to totally understand the material.
Grades pretty hard on the first two tests, forcing many student to drop her class. But once people dropped, she gave out a decent amount of extra credit opportunities that makes up for it. Averaged an 79 on the first two tests, ended up with an A in the class pretty much speaks for itself
Great instructor. Focuses mainly on theorems and problem-solving. Lectures are a bit confusing. About 2 hours of HW each night. Tests are more lax than HW. Always willing to answer questions. Office hours a must for this section.
At the beginning of each class, she goes over homework questions. She then lectures and periodically asks if there are any questions. She is there for office hours when you need help. She is friendly and intelligent (with degrees in physics and math). I would definitely recommend her. She is accomodating when it comes to your final grade.
Pretty good, overall. However, I found her lectures somewhat confusing. When she derived concepts on the board, I really enjoyed the class, but when she projected notes from her computer I was a lot less engaged/more confused. Tests are very easy, as she always adds plenty of E.C. She is very helpful and wants you to succeed. If you need help, ask.
I had always struggled with math before her class and I was nervous to take her class because of this. She explains topics clearly and sets a strong foundation for future classes. The homework is manageable and really helps on the test. There isn't a reason to not get an A in this class if you persistently do your work. I Highly recommend her class
She is not very engaging and does more solving problems for us during the lectures then helping us understand the material. There is a lot of homework and if you are a good student an A is easily within reach. The tests are challenging but not overly, however unlike most math classes this class is not curved.
HORRIBLE!SHE GAVE OUT 2 HOURS WORTH OF HOMEWORK EVERY NIGHT GAVE USELESS PROJECTS HER TESTS SUCKED THEY HAD PROBLEMS WE HAVE NEVER SEEN SHE TAUGHT NEW INFORMATION THE DAY BEFORE THE TEST ON THINGS THAT WONT BE ON THE TEST SHE HAS A VERY NEGATIVE ATTITUDE SHE EXPLAINS HOW NOT TO DO A PROBLEM AND HOW YOU WILL MESS UP BEFORE TEACHING IT DONT TAKE HER!
She is very nice, but extremely difficult. She doesn't help us very much and the way she explains things is confusing. Her tests are not fair, they are completely different from the practice we do. She doesn't give a practice test, just a page with vocabulary, which does nothing. I would not recommend her. If you wanna fail math, she's perfect.
Very helpful and available to all of her students who seek out help. I love her teaching style. She shows examples that relate to the homework. Awesome lady!
She is a professional lady with a nice demeanor but does her classes in a group setting very difficult if your barley recapping on math. she request students to get help from tutors overall wouldn't recommend.
this teacher has ignored my request for help she has mainly turned the class in to a glorified babysitting session. Mona Ellis has made this class so focused on the Pearson online My Math Lab that I don't even feel like she is my professor. She does practically nothing.
SHE SUCKS! AVOID AVOID! she marks down on tests for ridiculous things. she doesn't teach. we teach ourselves. answers questions, but looks at you like your stupid. MAKES MISTAKES ALL THE TIME! does examples then makes us do homework all class....do online if anything. she doesn't teach.
I got a good grade, so I won't complain too much, but this professor is ridiculous. 10% of the class is her talking, 5% of which are errors she makes, and the other 90% is laptop time. The only math that took place in this class was on the computer. She isn't nice either. I took the 4 week long class and it was BRAINDEAD easy. Take her.. easy A.
I took her for my math 15 class and went into the 2n1 learning community and i loved it. it was such a good way to advance in my math courses. if you need help u definitely need to go to the math lab and that helps out so much. she is also very nice and she doesnt just give you the answer she asks you questions about the problems. love this proff.
She assigns daily homework turned in for extra credit at end of semester. If you're not in class, you won't pass.
She is just a frustratingly bad teacher. She just goes over a couple problems from homework then assigns a ton with most of them not fitting into what she described. You need to be good at math already to do well. Incredibly bad teacher overall.
Mrs. Ellis was a great teacher she explains things so easy instead of assuming you know it all. She gives great advice for math and sometimes just life advice. She is the best teacher I have ever taken. DO THE HOMEWORK! As long as you do that you WILL pass
She is amazing! She made me finally understand and like math. It was my favorite class to go to I never wanted to miss cause she actually made me understand everything! She is very helpful and you work In groups all semester and I think that is very helpful.
I dont know why her rating is so low, shes such a good teacher and explains things very well. I definitely recommend her.
She is a really nice person who is very helpful. The notes in class dont always line up with the homework which can be frustrating. I was one of two who got good grades in class and I can say this was because we were the only two doing the homework. If you do the homework and get help when you need it you will be fine, just dont slack off.
Don't let the poor reviews fool you she is the best math professor I've had. She provides plenty of office hours and time to approach her if you need help. She provides study guides for every test. In order to pass you do have to study, and do homework. You have to work for your grades. Her lectures are very clear and easy to understand.
I really love math. I took her for Calculus II. It was horrible. Her lectures were confusing, she skipped steps and makes mistakes in her examples, she didn't answer questions at the beginning of class, and was often unavailable during office hours. Her tests were long and nothing like homework. I ended up dropping. Would never take her again!
Prof. Ellis like you to work in groups. So if one person in the group understand you can help teach the other students. It was a very fun class to be in, you do problems on the board. Homework is the key for this class, she checks to make sure you have done it and gives you points for completion. Take her for any math class.
I feel like she increased my anxiety towards math due to her brutal grading criteria because everything was based purely on the tests, which she gave a time limit of 50 minutes on and then she graded those harshly taking off points for things like missing units, which eventually adds up, if you're sitting at border grades. Little leigh way.
She does not explain ANYTHING! She skips steps and goes way too fast. Not recommended.
She's not an easy professor nor a hard one. She actually cares about your hw and how you balance study time for math. Although it's all textbook use. I would recommend
She's a nice person, but a god awful teacher. She goes WAY too fast, skips a lot of steps, and does a poor job of explaining. What really bothers me is that the review is supposed to prepare you for the test. Yet she EXPLICITLY tells you that the review is bogus. WTF?! Why not assign something that will actually help us? Don't take her.
One of the best professors I had. She is really nice and she cares about students. Lectures are short and there is enough time to ask questions after class. We have a lot of homework, but all problems on the test are from homework.
Her lectures are confusing, and she is a tough grader. However, she is kinda nice and goes over some homework problems during class. If you take her class, expect a lot of homework and a lot of times where you consider changing your major!
If you take this class get ready to teach yourself!! She doesn't teach you !!!
I'm retaking Calc 1 after failing Ellis' class. In Ellis' class, the first test had a class average grade of LESS THAN 50%. You were considered lucky if you even passed. In my new class, the first test (covered the exact same topics) had a class average grade of around 73%. That should tell you what kind of professor Ellis is.
Worst math teacher I have ever taken, DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS. I am a A/B Student and her class cost me my first FW ( failure to withdraw) because her class was so bad that I didn't want to even show up anymore. Lectures do not match the tests and is not willing to help. Lots of Homework too
Online. Math15. Summer. 8 weeks. Weekly emails, mandatory orientation. All work thru online software. Work way ahead okay. Tons of questions BUT that's how you remember! 3 exams 50-60 questions, final about the same. Excellent MyMathLab software with great lectures. DO NOT wait or delay, get ahead so last exam and final are NOT on same week.
probably one of the worst teachers I have ever had. doesn't give good notes and messes up on her own problems often.
Do NOT take her class. Her lessons have nothing to do with her tests. She will literally give you anxiety. Avoid.
Material is hard but that is expected. As long as you do the homework and take the tests at the appropriate times, you will do fine. She likes to notify you individually about what's left due for you and she does not even need to at all. It's a nice gesture and courtesy on her part. There is no requirements for math lab hours so this class is good.
Professor Ellis does not follow her syllabus. She will drop you the last week of class for not being active for four days. Her homework is right on top of itself and theres no down time. She honestly made this semester horrible for me and she would not work with me on anything. She's not accessible and I would advise staying as far away from her.
Puts the hardest questions possible on a test. So much homework!! The homework does help a lot if you're not doing so good in class. Goes way too fast in discussing sections. skip class? you are not passing at all.
Professor Ellis is a very nice and reasonable person. As long as you do your homework on time and take the tests on time you will do fine. She messages you at least two times a month to tell you how you are doing and what you need to work on. Responds to questions within a couple of hours. Two homework assignments each week and test every month.
Prof Ellis assigns way too much homework. If you had any questions about homework she either told you to go to the math center or tutering. When she graded homework she would only give you credit if you did all of it and all of it had to be correct. The tests were nothing like homework and tests were graded harshly I passed one test
I've already taken regular calc but she does a good job of reassessing the material, helping me to understand the things I didn't in high school. Lot's of homework and the notes aren't online though. Good class for those looking to take their first steps into calculus. Make sure you know your algebra though!
Not understanding, doesnt want you to succeed, and gives mass amounts of homework which barely count for credit.
She was ultimately fine but her lectures are not engaging at all, it was very difficult to stay awake. You can still do fine in the class if you do the homework (and spend time in the math lab). Her tests are similar to homework and in-class examples and she goes over when to expect on the tests at the end of the class before.
Taking her class caused my GPA to decrease. Homework put together only adds up to 3 points at the end of semester. She likes to teach something new and put it on the test the same day (as if the old lectures weren't difficult enough already). Too much work for someone who's major has nothing to do with math. Avoid.
By far worst math professor I've had at PC. Assigns way too much HW. Lectures consist of you having to print out multiple pages before every class or buy a workbook. Lectures are long boring and she makes more mistakes than any other professor I've had making it almost impossible to learn. She gives Timed exams and lectures right after. Do NOT take
If you are looking for a class and a teacher to lower your IQ then this is a perfect class for you. Want to get a lot of homework that are worth nothing? We got you! Want a teacher that coughs every 10 secs and doesn't care about your future? We got you covered! Apply now! No but seriously, the worst decision you can make is to choose this class.
Took her calc 1 class. There is never enough time to finish the tests, only 1 hour. There is an impossible amount of homework but she was lenient with points for it. Gives points for showing work on the tests even if you get the wrong answer. No retakes on any tests. Doesn't curve, also doesn't drop lowest score. Very nice person but not easy class
Dont take her class for Math 140. Homework is worth 15% and the four tests plus final are pretty much your grade. She made me feel dumb when I would ask her questions outside of class. I needed help and she was helping me like I should already know what to do. I constantly got bad test grades and I wasnt ever bad at math until her class.
So if you're not good at teaching yourself the material I just wouldn't recommend this class period! I took this class thinking I can take it head on but first and foremost this class will take a lot of your time and two even if you get tutoring from the math center where its free sometimes they aren't that helpful. You're pretty much on your own.
helicopter teacher! Emails," you bombed your test" when you are .37% away from getting a B. She emails everyone who is "bombing" the class and puts pressure on how the student needs to do better or they will be dropped. Only cares about students doing because it benefits her. Strict drop policy. Very rude. Will harass you with emails.
Avoid Ellis. BUT keep in mind most math teachers are obsessed w/math. Civilizations built on it. Not all of us want to become builders, we just want to get thru math. With that said, all math teachers can fix themselves and be much more engaged. 300 concepts, hard to remember. S/B paid by grade, then you would see adjustments. Not funi 90% fail
Very rude. Do not take her class. She doesn't understand that most of us just want to get through math and knock out a GED requirement instead of learning to be mathematicians. Spare your GPA and transcript.
If you are not naturally good at math, you will struggle in this class. My biggest pet peeve was how much she tells students to just drop the class when they aren't doing well. She will answer any questions you have and is patient during class but you have to be prepared to put a lot in work in this class if you expect to get anything out of it.
In the middle of a pandemic, she told our class to take time off any PART-TIME (not even full time) jobs so that we can have more time to focus on her class... Like, what?? I tried to give her the benefit of the doubt after reading all these negative reviews, but I should've listened.
V. overinvested in our grades: syllabus basically said "if you aren't getting 90%+ on EVERYTHING, you're failing". If you're not as ahead as she wants, you're "behind". Constant harassing emails telling you what pace she wants you to work at. I know when everything is due; buzz off. Makes you feel dumb for asking questions. Hour long "quizzes".
Not sure why she gets such low rating, she is a pretty good prof. Summer class is tough especially for math and she is very vocal about its difficulty and workload. I was injured a week into the class and she was very accommodating and helped me a lot. Ask questions, do your work on time and keep up, shes a good prof.
People that are confused about the bad reviews, you need to understand one thing. Students do understand that if they do all the work and show up to the class, they will pass-The problem here is that she's giving way to many homework and they barely boost your grade if completed-Mona Ellis gave us two tests(chapter test, and finals)on the last day
I was a high school student taking this class during summer. One of my favorite math professors I have ever had! She was amazing! Great at contacting the students to let them know what they needed work on and to give encouraging messages like, "Great job!" It was a bit of work, but pay attention to the videos and it's very simple! Take her class!
I am a high school student and I took her class during COVID. She is a fantastic professor! She sends weekly emails to help you stay on track to the schedule so you don't fall behind because she cares about all her students. There's a decent amount of HW, but all assessments are basically the same questions from the HW. Easy A. Take her class!
i really appreciated having her class, her kinda deadpan/witty humor is fantastic. it might be a little boring but she's a great teacher. i have no idea why people are giving her bad ratings, she was one of my favorites. she is genuinely helpful, and you will pass if you do the work. (i completely earned my C, i was going through some stuff.)
If you do not log into MyStatsLab for four consecutive days, she will drop you. She likes to say, "if you aren't scoring at least a 90% on the assignments, you will fail the class." She WILL send you emails and harass you if u aren't doing the assignments as soon as she would like you to. SHE DOESN'T TEACH, YOU WILL LEARN FROM PEARSON. STAY AWAY!!
Professor doesn't understand when personal things come up. Class has too many assignments that don't matter. "financial Literacy" was an assignment that has nothing to do with math. Homework is assigned everyday along with countless quizzes that don't count toward your grade. Support class has no real purpose but talking about goals. Do not take!
This class caused me stress and kept me from going to sleep. She assigns lots of homework that didnt count towards your grade. Grade was heavily weighted on test/exam. Even if you were to take just this class alone, there still wouldnt be enough time to comprehend and complete the assignments. Do not take.
LOADS of printing if you don't take notes on ipad, some extra credit, grades automatically updated, need to use proctorio, no notes on tests/quizzes but final is open note not open book, TAKES LOTS OF TIME to complete homework so do not take online without having the time to put into it, professor always replies to emails fast
I wish I had dropped this class before it cost me a FW on my transcript. Homework does not prepare you for the tests. The material on the tests are different from what we study on the homework. Class is highly weighted on the tests. Spare yourself the time and pain & look for a different professor to take this class with. DO NOT TAKE. STAY AWAY.
She knows the material but sometimes lacks in how to explain it. Just listen, practice, get on her good side, and you should be fine.
Impossible to complete without falling apart or giving up on most of your assignments. If you are taking any 4 or more credit classes other than this make sure to drop one of them. The homework for this class is insanely high and most are not used in tests. Very unhelpful in most cases. You get 5 assignments (2-3 hours each) nearly every week.
Avoid this class at all costs. Trash teacher
The work load was insane and half the class dropped, there were only 5 students (including me) left by the end of the semester. I did everything she told me to do and still failed the class, took the same math class again over the summer with a diff professor and passed with and A instead of a D which should tell you it wasn't me but the professor.
have to watch lectures outside of class. everything graded very hard; lectures hard to understand needed to go to YouTube to learn. makes mistakes often. tons of hw strict due dates but she takes months to grade hw. Has mercy at times but not enough. ex: gave chance for 30 extra points on test but only 5 more minutes to complete extra 30 points.
WHAT ON EARTH is all I have to say.
Good professor, very accommodating. She genuinely wants you to succeed so be ready to study and do all the homework, the class has a ton of material.
When I read other reviews I thought they were disgruntled students. Nope, its all true. Homework for this class is unreasonably long. Tests are weighted heavily. They're long with a short timeframe to complete. Offers extra credit, you'll need it. Make sure you aren't taking any heavy classes alongside this class. She always shows up late.
this class is the worst class ive ever taken, and its bcuz of mona she is the worst prof ever dont take her classes
Absolutely ridiculous class. You should only take her class if you hate life and want to make your college experience so much worse.
Prof. Ellis is absolutely insane she sent me weekly emails harassing me about work I had already done, but she has no clue how to grade things or use her computer. Also completing work under her format is literally impossible so get ready to spend about 10 years working on the weekly assignments! DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!!!!!!!
I took this class because my math teacher had her as a professor and he was amazing. However, this class was awful! I had to self teach as well as we all had to teach each other because we were all confused and she was no help. She's very test based and if you get one bad test grade you have a higher chance of failing.
I took her class as an 8 week course and worked about 150 hours on everything Tests - 80% Of your Grade (7 Total) Quizzes - 17% Of Your Grade (13 Total) Homework - 3% Of Your Grade (129 Total) Its a ton of work but you can get 100% on homework easy. You cant get behind or you will fail, fun class Tests will make or Break your grade in the class.
This teacher had to have been one of the WORST teachers I have ever encountered. I read the rate my professor before the class so I knew what I was getting into. I said to myself no way she can be this bad, I was wrong. Stay away!!
Seriously an insane amount of homework. Assignments were extremely overloaded with no give in timing. don't expect to have a life outside of this class if you take it.
This professor hosts an online class where she throws a metric butt load of assignments on your shoulder, offers no extensions and hardly provides help during her limited office hours, and expects us to spend 8+ hours on work outside of class, but it turns to 20+ focused hours. Her announcements consist of preaching the class difficulty. Whata joke
Most heavy course I have taken by far. So many quizzes tests, review quiezes, reviews tests , review exams and then exams and then practices and homeworks etc. etc. it might provide deep learning but holy hell this class feels like 8 units of semester work, unnecessarily and unreasonably heavy.
This class with Professor Ellis is no walk in the park. The workload is intense, with tests heavily weighted and homework not always aligning with the material. But using resources like Unstuck study alongside the textbook can make a big difference. Prioritize time management to succeed.
This class is absolute bogus. With math not being one of my strongest points, she made it worse. The homework and quizzes/tests are completely different from each other. Strong lack of passion towards teaching students. Look for another professor because she ain't it.
Are you kidding me? I came into class with high hopes of getting a high score and ended up getting a FW & left in tears. Don't get me wrong, I like math, but her teaching ability did not cater to my needs nor the rest of the class. I am very disappointed with the outcome of this. I don't normally write reviews but couldn't stay silent on this one.
It is with a heavy heart that I write this review. I have made the decision to drop this class, for I no longer see myself passing. The lectures teaches you one thing, but the tests and quizzes are another. I can no longer bare the pain that class burdens upon me. I bid farewell as I look for a different class and professor to collect math credit.
Awful. That's the best way I can explain her. I have been an all-A student with a 4.0 but could not achieve an A in this class even with hours a day in the class. The amount of work of the class was unrealistic and she did not care if you succeeded or not she loaded us with so much work that it was impossible to thoroughly succeed.
I hardly ever rate professors, as the majority of them I have nothing negative or extremely positive to say about. But my god, this is probably the worst class I have ever taken in all of my years in school. There are no extensions,an unnecessary amount of homework to the point where you want to drop out, and not understanding. DO NOT TAKE.
Oh my goodness, lord have mercy. You would think that when a professor gives you loads of homework, it's so you can prepare & practice for the lessons? That wasn't the case with this class. Homework doesn't prepare you for anything. I feel like she doesn't teach to help students, but to stress them out. I'm sorry for all who enrolls in her class.
I took all my GED and transfer classes & waited to take math last because I have a phobia of math and not really good at it. Unfortunately, it had to be her class that I enrolled in. She is really confusing and has no patience with her students. Now, I will have to take a different professor and wait another year to apply for a 4-Year University.
she literally does not teach. all of her "lectures" are prerecorded while the class time is used for doing hw, she calls it a "flipped" class. even then, the video-lectures are dull, and you basically need to teach yourself for the whole class. only saving grace is how generous she is with extra credit, which is how i still got an A.
If you want to waste your time and get an easy F, take this class. You wanna stress and lose sleep? Take her class. You want an F to go on your transcript? Enroll for this class. But seriously, even the brightest of students failed this class. Didn't feel like class, felt more like a torture chamber. She isn't for helping others. Thank you, nexttt.
Palomar needs to hire more math professors because their choices are limited and unfortunately, she is one of them. As my first time taking a college class, she gave me the worst first experience ever. The hw and quizzes/tests don't add up, and she made it so uncomfortable to even ask her for help. I refuse to be silenced. Don't take her class.
I'm so glad the semester is over because this class was pure hell. Her teaching skills didn't accommodate with any of the students, and only a handful passed. Her passion isn't teaching students, but failing students. Do not take her class. This is the worst experience I've ever had with a college class. This class is a dead end and a lost cause.
There were 150 graded assignments. I spent 15-17 hours/week on homework. Tests were worth 60% of the grade, and the final was 20%. Despite being great at math, I struggled to finish the tests due to time limits, constantly fighting to keep my A. She's difficult to communicate with, and the final was on December 23rd. I regret taking this class.
It's so obvious that she got a kick out of failing and not properly teaching her students. I tried so hard to not even get an A, but to even pass with a C was impossible. She treats you like you already know the material. I'm gonna have to enroll in another SD community college because Palomar doesn't have many options, and she's not a good one.
Terrible experience. Too much hw that doesn't count towards your grade, and timed quizzes and tests that consisted of lessons taught on the day of the test. I considered taking a FW but wanted to see if I could pass with a C. Nope. Still failed. Waste of time. This class is a stress cooker and jawbreaker. You will question your sanity. Steer clear.
I have been an all A student but this professor has been the worst I've ever had. The amount of homework was unacceptable without any weight to your grade and the test were nothing like the lessons. She was absolutely terrible and no help at all.
