She was very hard to understand. Her communication with the class wasn't as clear or up front as it could have been. I doubt if anyone in the class made an A. We had information on the final that she never went over in class (she simply told us to read the chapters). It was a very vague class.
i agree with the comment prior to mine..she's hard to understand and assumes you know everything before hand (when we were wayy off in lec from lab)
This teacher is ridiculous. She is impossible to understand through her thick accent, and very rude and defensive. Don't bother buying the book, she teaches out of the advanced chemistry bookthat you can't get your hands on. Tests are horrible, final is no better. More people failed then passed in my class. Forget getting an A, a C is hard enough.
So unclear... Horrible teacher, cant understand a word she says. Lecture way off from lab. Test are extremely difficult and cover material never before discussed or at least not picked up on due to her thick accent. Had to drop, so as not to bring down my 3.8 avg! Do not take this woman, highest test avg is a 68 for class!
she is very unfair and stupid. diffcult to understand . do not get this teacher unless you are really good at chem.she thinks that 64% for the class average was awesome.
I read the previous comments and am shocked at how mean people can be. This is a difficult class, but what science class isn't? She will help you pass her class. She does care about her students. I have a feeling the other comments were left by people who never bothered to speak to her or ask for help. She goes to the science help center too.
Wow, some of these comments are pretty harsh. If you think you're going to coast through chemistry, you're probably mistaken. The amount of material is overwhelming, but Dr. Uppal more than made up for it. She understands and is very generous in grading exams. I'm glad I trusted her advice and didn't drop. Hang in there and she'll take care of you.
If you already know all there is to know about chemistry...or you have no trouble deciphering her pigeon english...you might be okay. Otherwise you are going to work your tail off. If you give it your all...and hang in there till the end..you will pass the class.
Very hard teacher. No grade curve, make-up exams or extra credit. Diffcult to understand because she has an accent.
It was by the grace of God that I made a B in this class! Which I will have to retake! We were tested on material that was not covered in class or in the book. Alot of trick questions on her exams! Some had more than two correct answers. Counted wrong if you didn't choice the answer she wanted you to choose. Even if both were right.Don't take her!!
Chem is very tough to begin with. Prof Uppal was great at helping out if you asked for it. She was ready to clarify and answer any question you had. I loved how she never gave you the answers in lab, but would would help you figure it out on your own.
You can barely understand what she is saying and she does not teach the material. She just goes over what is in the book
Good teacher. Very flexible with homework. Gave alot of helpful handouts that alot of other chemistry teachers did not give. Very thorough. Does not give away grades. You need to read the chapter, study hard, attend the Science Learning Center for extra help if you want to do well in this class or any other chemistry class.
Dr. Uppal teaches as if its a 3000 level class. Not kidding!I had to retake this class and my prof now made chem so easy and actually fun. What takes 2-3 steps to do, she explained it with 9-10 steps and took the long, technical route in explaining everything. We had to learn every page in the text vs my new prof who omitted things that were useless.
Her english is very hard to understand, but she knows the material very well. Be prepared to take lots of notes and do extensive homework in this class.
DON'T TAKE HER! Dr. Uppal does not speak very good english and is unwillign to help. I dropped her class and retook it with another professor and received an A.
Took her for distance learning.Very helpful professor and well organized.I didn't know much about chemistry but ended up learning a lot.
Such a good teacher! She was super nice and very flexible. I took the online class, but lab was on campus. She gave us reviews for the tests and finals. The pp presentations explained all the important points.I never had any chem before, not even in high school, and I've got an A in her class. I learned so much!!
A textbook was helpful, but not necessary. The class I took was on=line and Dr. Uppal was very organized. I read some of the other comments, and disagree. She was very helpful. This is a course that you have to commit to doing. I like the fact that she wanted us to learn the material not simply pass the test.
Dr Uppal is an INCREDIBLY helpful, nice & considerate person. She WANTS you to get the grade you want & helps you in ANY way possible. Just ask & she will help you understand. This is CHEM, people. It is not easy. You DO have to put forth effort. I didn't have a problem w/her accent. I asked for clarification, MAYBE, 5 times all semester. TAKE HER!
Dr. Uppal is a fantastic CHEM Teacher. I took DL and 1 day lab. She was helpful, and gave everyone the opportunity to succeed! She helps you help yourself learn the information, allowing for many 'Oh wow...I get it' moments. CHEM is hard by nature, this teacher makes it much easier.
Not only that I've learned Chemistry this semester but I always made a great friend Dr. Uppal. If you want a professor that would go the extra mile for you, she is the one. If you put an effort in her class you will get a awesome grade. She will work with you. One word summery "AWESOME!"
This instructor was GREAT! I had taken the class before with another instructor and I hated it. My standards are at a new time high leaving her class. You have to do the work and she will make sure you understand it. She's very flexable but not a push over. WONDERFUL!!!
Very hard class due to her teaching style. Don't get me wrong, she is VERY nice. Dr Uppal is just hard to understand and learn from. She give extra credit as well
Dr Uppal is such a wonderful professor. She SO wants everyone to learn and will do everything she can to help you understand. Extra credit is given quite often but you do need to learn and study. This is chemistry & it's not easy. I took her DL class but I really wish I would have taken her lecture at the campus. Wonderful person and professor.
Dr Uppal is awesome, very helpful and she teaches what you need to know in Chem, its tough but she will work with you,put some extra effort and study hard . I would recommend her to anybody who wants to learn and make a good grade.
Dr. Uppal makes the class as easy as Chemistry can be. It is a difficult subject and you will have to put in an effort, but Dr. Uppal was nice and did what she could to help.
She was very confusing and hard to understand. Her extra credit was worthless to anyone who might struggle and she says she will help you but doesn't. She was a nice person, I wouldn't refer her to anyone who wasn't already extra smart in chemistry. She was quick to say so and so forth while teaching.
I give Dr. Uppal an average rating. She is hard to understand and I felt the book was easier to understand than her lec/lab class. She does make up for her teaching deficiencies by giving you extra quizzes and will remove the 2 lowest quiz & 1 lowest lab grade. I say take it but be honest but respectful if she loses you & she will try to help.
Chem is hard but if you read the book and take notes (which she gives you outlines for) you will do fine in her class. Quizzes are online and tests are basically from the quizzes. Her accent is a little thick, but I got used to it after the first week. Very fair class.
She is extremely nice and helpful. Though, she is a little hard to understand at times, she is always willing to help the class prepare for the exam and even extended one of our exams so we could better prepare. Her tests are just like the online quizzes so as long as you review those and do the online homework you should do just fine!
She can be difficult to understand at times but she tries to help everyone out. Very nice person. Attend class and study is a must.
She is NOT helpful when it comes to clerifying anything. She uses powerpoints with lots of mistakes and when you point them out she becomes verbally combative. In Lab you get 5 mins. for a quiz then you will have an hour of lab time left over. There will be assingments due that she will not cover but expect you to have done a certain way.
Very difficult to get your point across at times. She tries to be helpful and be nice by giving extra credit, but you leave at the end of class having to bury your nose in the books, because you don't really take anything away from class. And print out her chapter outlines. She does nothing but power points and quizzes are online.
Very helpful professor. I would recommend her.
may have a problem w students who need extra help, made me work alone because i was late one day
Accent was a little hard to understand at times. Some of the course material was not as clear as it could have been.
Coursework is lot. Dr. Uppal is helpful. She provides outlines for all chapters. You earn extra credit on exams by doing homework.
She was a great teacher for this class. She really knows what she is talking and she is very sweet. She will email back in a day or less, whatever the question. She gives online homework, and if you miss it she will open it for you if you ask. Her tests are easy if you even put in a little studying and she gives extra credit. 9/10 would recommend.
Dr. Uppal is a great professor. Chemistry is a hard subject but she gives reviews for the test. The reviews have everything you need for the test. Four test in total, two lecture and two lab. I recommend taking her.
This is by far the worst professor i have ever taken at TCC. She's very unorganized & unfair. When i had a Dr. appointment with documentation, she would not accept my work, which caused my grades to suffer. She makes you print out over 100 pages worth of work. She has a bad attitude. Do yourself a favor & don't take her class, find someone else!
I am currently taking her for the fall of 2018. She is incredibly helpful and a wonderful professor. She explains things in detail and she really wants you to understand. She explains labs thoroughly and helps you with calculations. She gives practice questions and sample tests before each test. Plus there is extra credit too!
Mona Uppal is a great teacher teaching a tough class. NE Campus Labs are easy to use & close to the lecture classrooms you MUST DO YOUR HOMEWORK & LAB WRITE UPS BEFORE CLASSES. If you do those things youll pass with at least a C, but if you dont you wont have a good time. NE is definitely the best for chemistry classes of all the tcc campus
Dr M. Is not the easiest professor you will take , however if you actually try and do the work you will pass. She is more than fair when grading and allowing you to turn things in late or if you were absent. She isn't going to fail you for not being in class. Just do the work and study , you will do just fine. Pay attention and complete the HW.
Make sure the lab reports are done before lab or else she won't let you do the lab. She gives extra credit. She is helpful if you approach her in a good manner and she will do her best to help you understand. Do the homework and it will prepare you more for the test.
one of the most incoherent teacher , and just DO NOT TAKE HER
Took Dr. Uppal for lab. She's friendly and helps wherever needed, but she was at times incoherent and made it difficult to understand her expectations. I don't regret taking her for lab, but I'm glad I didn't have her for lecture. Have your reports done before lab. Make sure to study for the quizzes, they are kind of tricky and she grades hard.
Dr. Uppal is a nice teacher. I was little nervous about taking this class because of the math component. She does a real good job helping you understand both chemistry and math. Be ready to do online homework, review her notes and you will do just fine.
Very helpful professor. I learned so much as she was always available during her office hours. Went over all the math in detail and simplified things for me. Thank you Dr. Uppal!
Dr. Uppal is a very caring professor. She makes herself very available to students. The material is hard but go over the reviews she gives and you will do fine. Sometimes she is unclear to what she is expecting, but just ask and she will clarify. She does have an accent but after a few classes I could understand her fine.
I took her for OCHEM and she was very condescending and rude to me and YELLED AT ME IN FRONT OF EVERYONE. She said I needed serious training and to get my mind right and said my best wasnt enough. Shes very pessimistic and CONTROLLING. Her lectures were confusing and she gets MAD if we asked her questions. She hates her job and we can tell
At first, Dr. Uppal's class went pretty smooth, no big deal. Eventually, it just happens that it can be really easy to get lost if you don't keep up with assignments. Her lectures are really messy and confusing, and sometimes her accent makes learning a little much harder. If you can, please take a different Chemistry professor.
Dr. M is caring. I like the classroom teaching and knew it would be difficult for me to continue online due to covid. I was ready to drop but Dr. M encouraged me to stay. Her notes and homework helped me with my grade.
I took Dr. Uppal and passed with an easy A. She gives homework but counts it as a test grade. Go over her lecture notes, do review questions for tests, you will do fine. Online labs had all the directions and videos. It was easy to do your lab reports. She is a fast grader and responds to your email.
This was my second time taking O Chem. It was lot less stressful than the first time. She gives out notes, worksheets and helps you understand the concepts. There were just two major exams and few quizzes. Do the assigned work as it helps on tests. I would take her again!
Uppal was unnecessarily tough on students and not the slightest bit willing to work to help people understand concepts. She constantly was yelling at students for not "listening" to her. She made her tests almost impossible to even finish in the time frame allotted. I've been at TCC for several years and she was the worst professor I ever have had.
Dr. Uppal is very helpful. If you are willing to work for it, you will do well in her class. Gives four tests and drops one. Labs are easy and are with labflow.
I think shes a great professor. Lab and lecture assignments are every week. They are easy and helpful tho. Overall a good teacher. Will help you whenever you need it.
Overall a good professor. Chemistry is a tough subject but she conveys the material well. The lectures are well organized. She releases videos explaining the lectures. She is always willing to meet with students and help them learn. Make the effort, know the problems, do the homework/quizzes and you will be fine.
Honestly, being in her class online was so slow and her accent made concentrating impossible for me. Had to retake the class and got an A+ with a different professor.
She is an okay teacher. She tries her best but it might not be enough for most students. This class is difficult because she is not very much available outside of class. Lack of communication. Barely replies. 5 major tests during the semester. Exam 1, 2, 3, 4, Final Exam. Exam 4 Replaces your lowest grade exam.
Difficult to understand, and not helpful at all. She is tough, and doesn't really teach. Also quizzes and exams don't match the lessons.
Terrible experience taking this class, don't ask any questions because she'll curve the question into something else or give an answer to a completely unrelated topic. She doesn't put in the same amount of work into her own class and expects more from you. Lectures are very boring and she messes up half the time anyway so going to class is useless.
Her lectures are long and its very difficult to understand her because English is not her first Language do your self a favor take a different preference.
Maybe it's because it was online, but this professor was not for me. The amount of work she puts into this one class is ridiculously hard, even for a class like chemistry. She is a very tough grader, and is unclear on what she expects out of you. If you can, please take this class with a different professor.
Best Professor! She provides notes and writes everything on board. I am a visual learner and it helped me learn. Three exams and final, no homework made it manageable.
The class was hard for me but Prof Uppal teaching style helped. She practically writes everything on board. Since I am a visual learner it was easy for me to connect. Her notes and exam reviews worked well for me. Would definitely recommend her!
Pretty easy. Concepts were easy to grasp and formulas were provided on each exam. Dr. Uppal also provides practice exams with the same type of questions that will be on the actual exams. Never had to reach out to Dr. Uppal with any questions since my friend is an Organic Chemistry Tutor.
Dr. M was awesome! Very helpful and approachable.
This class than Gen Chem 1, I took earlier. Professor Uppal was great! She took time in explaining the difficult concepts and did all the problems in class. This was good for me as I struggle with math sometimes. Her exam reviews, and worksheets helped me score well. Labs were 25% of course grade.
Lectures were on Canvas divided into modules. Dr. M worked on practice problems in class. You will do well if you make sure to study the material before coming to class. Lab quizzes are online. Labs are mandatory and are part of course grade.
Dr. Uppal was kind and easy. Her notes were comprehensive and homework were on canvas. She explained materials in a way that made sense and I maintained an A all semester. If you want to learn, i recommend taking this professor's class.
Took the class in summer. It was faced pace but manageable. Dr. M was clear with her instructions. Four exams with lowest being dropped and final. Review sheets and practice exams helped me see what to expect on them. Labs were easy. She explained them well. Nice and very approachable professor.
Took Dr. M for Gen Chem 1 and enjoyed it. She clearly loves teaching the subject. Her lectures and reviews were great! She explains and does all math calculations in class. This helped me a lot!
I have to say the class was very manageable. Sure, there were tough moments but got through it. She provides good feedback and would explain the notes well with many practice problems. As a teacher, she is kind and great. You will have to study outside a bit, but getting an A in the class is quite possible as long as you don't procrastinate.
Teaching style is very old fashioned. Few of my past lectures she goes really fast. Asking her to go back over something she talked about or explaining it more clearly results in you being chastised over apparently "not listening". Very memorization heavy making someone with learning disabilities greatly struggle. Consider this before taking
General Chemistry 1 was hard for me in the past. Professor Uppal's class made it simple with her teaching style. She is kind and great. Getting an A is possible if you do all the required assignments and you are always in class. She is always ready to explain difficult concepts and do difficult problems in class. I highly recommend her.
Unfortunately, this professor was very disorganized and unclear in her teaching. When students asked for help, responses were unhelpful. I wouldn't recommend taking this class unless If you want to mess up your GPA. If you have the option of waiting a semester or taking her class, TRUST ME, wait the semester, and take another class. AWFUL.
Not a good teacher, doesn't listen to students, don't take her if you want stable mental health.
Lab was lecture heavy. A lot of homework. Exams were not difficult unless you didn't study her exam reviews. She was slightly disorganized when it came to finishing units on time. Regardless, this course was pretty easy when studying outside of class. She was available through email or office hours. Overall an OK professor.
Really lecture heavy class and I feel as though her teaching wasn't very clear or digestible. More often than not I'd hear people talking about having to skip questions for every test due to not knowing the answer so I know it's not just me. You have to set aside a lot of time for her class so keep that in mind
You really have to dedicate a HUGE amount of hours outside of class in order to pass. She is very kind on a good day but has mood swings throughout the day. Some of her labs our whole class could not understand, which says a lot. Please avoid...
Good class. The professor helps students and cares. This advanced class needs extra time, but worth it. If you prepare, labs are easier. Be positive and ask questions to learn easily. Recommended if you want to learn and work hard!
The lectures are heavy as she goes fast but everything she talks about in class will be in the exam. Labs where long but if you did read and do the pre-lab before class you will be fine. Exams are long but if you study and do the reviews you'll pass. If you want to learn definitely take her class. Nice/caring/funny professor. I recommend her class.
Dr. Uppal is a great professor. I learned so much from her class. You do have to put in the work to do well on labs and tests. The class isn't easy, but Dr. Uppal is kind and always willing to help students learn and succeed. I would recommend her every time to students who are serious about learning.
