Worst Teacher Ever. She makes her TA who doesn't know english teach lecture. She NEVER responds to emails. I had a death in the family and she would let me take the exam even the same day just in the morning. She stopped giving notes because her TA says in india they don't give notes so why should we get them? Worst Class EVER!
At beginning of course had powerpoint notes, which were helpful to teach yourself the material. But then she started to teach a lecture that contains at least 100 students regularly by writing everything on the overhead. Talks too fast, TA is lost. Teacher doesn't have office hours, and is very inconsistent. The worst ever.
If you want to take this class, be prepared to teach yourself. I would sit through the lecture and try to understand concepts, but to no avail was only tought by my book. She would attempt (the TA) to teach through example test questions, but would say the right answer and move on. Not why one was not correct. poor poor class.
Look, if you take the time to read the chapters you should be golden I aced all the tests no problemo
WORST CLASS EVER!she started the semester by telling everyone to basically not come to class...then she completely pulls a 180 and decides that the class is going to be emphasized on the lectures but doesn't go over the material in a way that students can understand...if you can AVOID this teacher!!!!!
very easy if you read the book or goto class probably easier if you just read the book
pretty boring, but if you go to class and pay attention you should do fine.
This professor is horrible! She's a nice professor..but she teaches horribly! She's boring and she doesn't write clearly during lectures!!
She is a little loopy, but she knows what shes talking about. Just READ the book and understand the diagrams she draws in class and you should do well. She curves also! I got an A on every exam and was exempt from the final exam.
Great professor...by attending class you really learn a lot and are well prepared for the exams. The text questions are also helpful for her exams. Somewhat loopy but makes the class go by fast. Always willing to help during office hours.
Shes a good instructor, is clear during class... answers any questions if you have any! Very open, knows what shes talking about, just make sure that you listen, and understand her diagrams, then its simple
she doesnt type out notes before class. she writes on a projector, has messy writing and squeezes things in after she writes them. she has no train of thought either. her test questions come out of nowhere.
nice professor. But i learn the course by myself in the day before the exams and get A. i dun know why i dun wanna go 2 her class. she should make some slides be4 class.
A very good professor. Go for classes and listen attentively to what she has to say. Also, read the texbook very well. Dont try memorising, just try understanding the concepts (diagrams, Terminologies e.t.c) and you should be fine. I got an A on 3 exams and was exempted from the finals. Lastly, she curves very well.
her tests are not easy, but she gave a big curve everytime. there was 3 tests and a final, two hours class a week. even if you mess up all three exam, she would consider more about your final like 25% of overall.
Tests are hard but there is a good curve. Read the book. Never went to recitation. Review Sheets don't help with exams but if you do well you're exampt from the final :-D
She's a very managable teacher, def take her if you can. 3 tests and a final. Go to class, pay attention, read, and do the multiple choice questions and its an easy a. Just but so effort in and you'll do fine.
her exams are hard, but with big curves (last one was like +17 curve). her lectushres are kinda confusing and boring at times. but she's manageable.
Not a bad teacher, i just studied material on my own, and got a b+. attendence to lecture isnt really necessary. recitation was always canceled. she curves the exams extremely well.
She is good, she speaks loud and clear. I mightve done a little better with a different teacher, but she is good and enthusiastic. I went to every class.
She is nice and a decent teacher. The material i found fairly difficult. There are three tests and a final. Ace all the test you get out of the final. She gives huge curves, one test we got like 25 points added on. Overall she is a good professor for the course and i would suggest takin her.
If you don't want to end up doing all your hw online (in timely fashion, really annoying and the website is really useless) don't take take micro with her.
AWFUL TEACHER. She cant write neat, is too hyper and doesnt stay on topics needed to learn the material. I hate aplia..stupid questions. Questions on test has nothing to do with material went over in class and if it is its irrelevant. Horrible grading system. I should ahve taught myself so i wouldnt have to resign the class. DONT TAKE HER!!!!
Not the best but not bad, I went to class and did almost all the aplia, which is a **** but can't really be avoided. She uses a projector and transparancies while you write the notes on the print-offs. She can get annoying and her handwriting blows, tests are in the middle all-in-all she not too hard if you put some effort forth
horrible teacher. handwriting and spelling suck, it's hard to concentrate on what she's saying because you spend so much time trying to decipher what you need to write down. Her thoughts and notes are not organized in the least. I ended up teaching myself offline and did a lot better than I did when I wasted time going to the lecture.
She is terrible!! Her examples in class & from homework do not help prepare for exam!! Her exams are difficult, even with big curves. She made lectures confusing and boring. Her handwriting sucks but she refuses to use powerpoint! My test average was B-/C+ (without the final) and I ended up failing the class.
She's not very clear with what she's teaching and how she's teaching it. Her exams are so different than class material.
intelligent woman who clearly explains all material in class. You don't need the book because her note sheets are great. 3 MC tests all semester with a review sheet that clearly outlines test. Office hours were no help because she doesnt answer questions she just gives you a 2 minute lecture then sends you out. But, she is interesting and a ****+++
She is SEVERELY unorganized. Lectures are a joke. She copies word for word off of a sheet of paper. Her hand writing is way past illegible and it is nearly impossible to stay awake. About 5 minutes into class she'll tell you shes almost done but dont get excited because she WILL go to the very end of class time. APLIA SUCKS! Can we say busy work?
absolutely the worst class ever taken in UB. Bad lecture quality, no sense of teaching, not helpful at all during office hours. If you are new to this school, AVOID HER!!
Worst voice in the world. She doesn't realize she has a mic and screams the most annoying sound you have ever heard in your life, its pretty bad. Very unorganized, no control, i felt like i was in high school with a substitute every class. But the exams are easy so its a pretty easy class if you teach yourself
very nice person, terrible teacher. if you need comprehensive notes, this teacher is not for you.. the hand written notes would have been easier to read and understand if they were upside down and in chinese, and she speaks fast, making it that much harder to understand. all exams were a test of your reading comprehension, not economics
she is really smart, so she assumes that you know things without explaining them thoroughly. i got an A- so im not complaining. She was helpful if you went to her office hrs and asked questions. she does scream into her mic but its easy to get over. the class is kinda hard but she is muchh better than the other eco181/182 teachers. and kind a ****
This teacher is great! She's fun and interesting. Her tests are easy if you go to class, do the pratice exams, do the multiple choice questions, and read the read the book. P.S omg she is sooooooo hot!!!! It's my favorite class to go to
This class is horrible. she has the worst voice, handwritting and spelling ever! she is very unorganized, never knows what she is doing. She uses horrible examples in class makes the material more confussing then it has to be. Tests have nothing to do with the stupid aplia assignments. Do NOT take this class with her!
She is completely useless. Her tests come from the book and the book only. Everything that she goes over in class doesn't help. Memorize the formulas from lectures (if you go) and read the book and you'll do fine. She doesn't explain anything in detail. she basically answers you: "let me answer you by asking you this". she's pointless.
Not a good professor. If you can get a different professor do it. Going to class doesn't help that much considering, the notes she writes are a jumbled mess of garbage. You have online assignments every week, and they are quite annoying because she constantly changes the due dates, so even if you were going to do them you can't.
dont listen to all the negative reviews here- they're just lazy freshman. THE TRUTH is that while she is a tad eccentric, she's not a bad professor; print out the notes and pay attention in lecture and this class isn't hard at all. She sometimes goes a little too fast but she is not bad!
this class is horrible. her tests are extremely difficult and long. her lectures makes you dont not want to come. aplia assignments are completely useless and annoying. however she does give big curves but still not enough to get a decent grade aviod her class!
Hi, i'm a lazy freshman and i agree that she is a nice person but dosn't grasp the concept of a grading curve. She kinda just tacks 5 points onto everyone's grade. Aplia sucks, but you can discard 5 of them (aplia is online HW that is erratically assigned throughout the semester) i do like how she lets us drop one out of the three tests though.
She's loud annoying and very short tempered. She doesn't really know what she's talking about and wears these awful outfits that show too much cleavage and legs, which would be okay if she weren't all leathery from over tanning when she was younger. She unprofessional, her homework assignments are useless and the tests are hard. 2nd test is evil.
she only repeats the textbook
spends too much time on homework problems that nobody does anyway because they are not mandatory. uses an overhead and has very messy hand writing... not legible
Do not take her class, even though she gives big curves on some of the exams you can still easily fail bc the exams are extremely hard. the lecture and homework are useless. she tests you on nothing that she teaches in class. if you dont read word by word from the book you are gunna fail.
aviod her class!
One of the worst professors at the university, should be fired. got a B in the class and its only bc i didnt pay attention to her in class, just read the book. Her lectures have nothing to do with the test materials and aplia sucks. Avoid her if possible.
horrible teacher. going to class is sooooo pointless. tests are hard. overall, just bad!
Honestly the worst class i have ever taken. don't bother going to lectures they do nothing, you sit there for an hour and a half and learn absolutely nothing. her hand writing is horrible and she changes her mind about every subject, i dont even think she knows what she is talking about. just read the textbook.
SHE IS HORRIBLE! I GOT A D+ DESPITE MY HARD WORK!!! TESTS ARE RIDICULOUSLY HARD AND THE FINAL IS WORTH 55% OF YOUR GRADE. SHE'S ALSO VERY PSYCOTIC WITH AN AWFUL ORANGE TAN. PLUS SHES VICIOUS AND SNAPPY! AVOID THIS CLASS!!!!!!!!!!1
Her class is a waste, you might as well teach yourself micro.
The ppl be4 me whine probably because they go to class and sleep there. Her handwriting is not good but if she always says wat she is gonna write. And if you cant read, ask her, she will say it out loud. Her notes are good, dont even need textbook. Recitation helps lots with understanding. Exams are ok, as long as u understand, u r fine. I got 3 As
If u r lazy to do ne work and not going to class, this is going to be very hard for you. But if you actually try and listen, do all the work, u get 3As on 3 exams easily and will be exempted from the final. Barely used the textbook, if u understand her notes, u r good to go. Overall, she is an awesome econ teacher :)
had a 91 test average, including the final. ended up with a b-. DO THE ONLINE HOMEWROK and READ THE ONLINE TEXTBOOK. avoid if possible
She is not that good of a teacher. you cant even understand what she is writing half of the time. I would not recommended her. Very hard, tests are really hard. Goodluck with her.
This class is not that difficult if you take the time to read the book. These people who say that she is a horrible teacher have no idea what their talking about.
easy A if you go to lectures. i never used the textbook once. there are 3 exams and online homeworks that are pretty easy. she exempts you from the final if you do well on all 3 tests
Dont listen to all of the negative stuff... Anyone can do well in her class. She is always willing to help and she is upbeat.
take her for both macro and micro in the same semester if you can. She is a good teacher
Yes, she can be kind of nuts sometimes and her handwriting is hard to read, but she's very nice and always happy. As long as you go to lecture and take the notes you'll be fine. There are only 3 tests and a final (which you can be exempt from if you do well on the tests) and they're always curved.
Cherry is a good economics teacher, her tests are a bit on the tough side however but she makes up for it with the curve. Also your lowest test grade is dropped so you can skip one all together if you want. The homework is a little annoying as it is all online, but its fair. Overall you could get away with a B in this class if you study.
The textbook for the class is awesome. (way better than the one for Macro by Bernanke himself)Except for the later chapters everything is written so 'stoned slackers' like myself can read it.Cherry..lets just say I did better when I read the book than reading her notes. Honestly. I dont mind shes annoying. But her premade note-taking does not work
Good Professor, go to class, take notes, do your online assignments, and you will do great.
She is a good professor, don't listen to anyone who says otherwise on here. If you do the work and study you will be fine. Economics is not my subject and I ended up with an A in the class. She always curves your tests, very approachable for extra help. Online homework aplia is hard but it's only worth 15% of your grade.
I found her to be a great professor. I actually learned in her class. Her exams can be a bit hard but she gives a nice curve. As long as you pay attention in class and take notes you'll be fine for the test. The homework is helpful but its mostly all on the notes.
She wasn't too bad. You only need to know about 80% of the material to get an A in her class because she gives 10 point curves. Aplia is annoying, but easy.
Good teacher, very easy to understand. Makes things clear and is always in a good mood. Take class.
terrible handwritting!!!!
Good teacher, very enthusiastic although she may come through has being a little crazy. The tests are somewhat difficult but there is always a large curve. 3 tests and a final (she drops one). Online hw is nothing to worry about its pretty straight forward.
She means well, but is sometimes off the wall. Stopping in middle of lecture to get attention of talkers is annoying, as is trying to read her handwriting. Still, she tries to make the material as easy as she can with students' interests in mind. Classes can get dull but that's the nature of the course. Textbook mandatory for online homework.
terrible at what she does. too caught up in her "beer" and "chocolate"
she's a fairly good teacher and goes over the material well. you need to pay attention and study and will do well on the tests. she is a bit vague sometimes with the notes, aplia is pretty damn easy. her tests aren't so hard if you put effort into studying and there is usually a curve.
This teacher has the worst handwriting ever. You have to sit in the front to get the notes. Online hw is easy but the class notes gets confusing because online it states that its one chapter then on the notes it states its another..shes not clear with her work. You would have to study hard for this one! IF YOU HAVE THIS TEACHER DROP THIS CLASS!
Appears to be strung out during many classes, but teaches alright. Lecture not mandatory but if you go it is dull and somewhat boring. She is somewhat off the wall and randomly interjects throughout notes with very wacky innuendoes.
Lecture is definitely helpful to attend, however it is hard to follow along as she seems to be perpetually flustered and not able to collect her thoughts. First two tests are very easy, third test hard. Drops the lowest test. If you get all As on the tests you will not have to take the final.
She is a really nice professor. You can get an A if you do mot miss classes. Especially, you can drop the lowest score out of 4 exams. If you get stratight A for 3 tests, you do not need to take the final exam. It is a great oppurtunity to meet him to study ECO 181.
Take this class!! You can fundamently understand concepts of economics. If your major is ECO, you must take this course. I highly recommand her class.
I don't understand why Professor Cherry has such a low rating--because her class is so EASY! Attend class and, most importantly, read the textbook. Her notes are often times ambiguous (because she hand-writes them); therefore, reading the book helps a lot. It's an easy "A."
Ok teacher, goes off on tangents and is pretty wacky. Everything is derived from the notes. Tests are ok...big curves. Aplia's are good to really try and understand the information. I did the aplias and studied before the tests and ended up getting a B, I NEVER READ.
Before I took her class, I heard about a lot of bad things. However, she was better than what I heard. She is always open to the questions and Online assigment(Aplia) is annoyting but helps if you try to understand the material. I would say reading a textbook is important to fully understand the material. Tests are mostly not bad, but sometimes har
Light workload! only online homeworks due 1-2x/week. Nothing difficult. She drops close to half of the lowest assignments and one of the four exams. She's great!
extremely helpful lets you drop the lowest test grade. do not have to take finals if u are in the top 10% of class. Do not have to goto recitation. Final test grade were curved by 20 percent. There is no way you can fail if u listen to her talk
She is very good teacher. Sometime she makes Confucian, but it is not big deal. I got A in this class. I used to review her notes for exams. You have to do online assignments which is very simple. Take her class if u want to study.
I love Monica Cherry! I am signed up for her eco181 for this fall because she is so great.
She is disgusting, she looks like a monkey. She thinks shes better than everyone and doesn't explain anything well. Dont get her i was forced in her class after registering for someone else. I dont go to lecture just read the ebook.
"Crazy" but not in the best way. Definitely an easy course for an independent learner . Her overhead lectures (annoying due to bad handwriting) are much more useful if you have taken notes prior.
Really easy class, although she is a bit nuts. Aplias and tests are easy. Take this class!!!
Professor Cherry is a good teacher. I bet all negative reviews are from people who never opened the textbook and never went to lecture and they failed because of it. She is hyper, especially if you have her in the morning (once saw her drink a 1L Mt. Dew in one class) but she is always there if you need help during her office hours. Take her class!
This class is extremely difficult and challenging. Her handwriting is impossible to read and lectures are very boring. Don't be fooled by her consistent happiness. This class is best for an independent learner. 3 tests-drop lowest, challenging final exam, and annoying useless aplia assignments. Attendance not mandatory. AVOID CLASS AT ALL COSTS!
She makes economics frustrating, and I LOVE the subject. Her handwriting is bad,so it's hard to read her notes. Her notes are like nothing in the textbook, which is easier to learn from, and her exams are convoluted and obscenely complicated (she wants us to 'think'). Be prepared to teach yourself economics.
She is awful. Might as well get used to reading the book because it is the only helpful thing she does for you all semester. I read the book and did much better on the last two tests than on the first test, when i actually went to lecture. lecture is not helpful at all.
She is really helpful. Aplia-online assignments are easy. The class material gets really harder in the end though. Classes are not mandatory, but I recommend you to go to the classes since there were some exam problems from her lecture.
Aplia homeworks are the best part of the class. That's where I learned the material. She's a crazy person who is insecure with her teaching ability. Her tests are wordy and are more critical reading than anything else.
she is an awful teacher...the class overall isnt so tough but u will have to do the learning all by urself...her lectures r of no use at all...only gud thing abt her is tht she gives huge curves...so even if u get 70% of the questions rite u can still end up getting a 100 on her xams....if u can teach urself little bit of economics its an easy A
Don't even bother attending her classes since is so boring. As long as you read the book and do Aplia then you be fine. Got a 90 on the first exam, 105 on the second 1, but the 3rd exam got a 84. I have to end up taking the final which is kinda hard. So end up with a A-. She is boring but is an easy A or A-!
She teaches the material good, but tests them very hard. She will find any way to trick you on the exam. There are usually huge class curves because the students all fail the test. The curve still doesnt help me. Do not take this class for an easy A.
Mind numbingly simple. Try to get a better professor if you really want to learn macro. If you want an easy A, then by all means...
She is weird she goes off on tangents while teaching and seems to confuse herself then says never mind and jumps back into teaching. Class was very boring, she has terrible hand writing so some of the notes were hard to read and understand. Aplia homework assignments are your best bet for learning the materials. test are tricky because of wording.
She is a very fair professor she gives you every thing you need to get an A in the class, although you dont have to come to class it may be a smart thing to do if you want to get a good great she clarifies alot and makes your life easier.
most of her lectures are very informing and interesting, even though you don't really have to go, I want to go anyway's because I love her class!!
her class was SUCH A TOTAL WASTE!! her teaching habits consist of class notes(that i never stay awake for) and online assignments. she's awkward and not helpful at all.. =/
It's easy to point her flaws, such as illegible handwriting, but in reality she isn't that bad. If you do the online assignments, look over the notes, and study you will do fine. She weights the exams like crazy and even gave some students an exemption from the final. Could have been better, could have been worse.
Incredibly grating on the ears, every other world is "ummmm" or "alriiight". Lectures are snooze fests, she just fills in the blanks on the notes on the overhead. Also, I hate online homework. Class is a requirement, try to find a different teacher. If you get her and get change, you'll have to make due.
I like her as a person but the classes were so boring and very hard to stay focused in. The entire course was just her filling in blanks on an overhead and losing her place in what she was talking about. :/
If you go to class, listen and fill in the blanks on the notes, you don't have to read the book. You don't even have to go to recitation. She makes everything perfectly clear in class. The hws on aplia are helpful and clarifying. Took macro with her last semester and now I'm in micro with her as well. I would recommend her class to anyone.
Tests are fairly difficult but if you do the homework, a lot of what they cover will help you with the exams. Class or recitations are not mandatory but they're helpful if you have questions. She's kinda crazy but very knowledgeable.
she thinks shes funny and makes the tests about things she doesnt go over
If you took AP Macro in high school take this teacher. She is so easy and her tests are extremely easy with curves. I got exempt from the final. She just explains the concepts terribly
Class was easy enough, though the explanation of the concepts was a bit wonky. Book was not required, just online APLIA. Moderately easy A.
boring as hell needed to read the book in order to pass the test
not an easy class, but it the work load is extremely reasonable only have two online assignments peer week they are not long at all, but can be a bit difficult. she gives 3 exams and a final. she drops the lowest grade out of the 3 exams if necessary. and she always in a good mood. if you study hard do the hw and go to class you should be fine
Class isn't mandatory. Easy A if you read the book. Curves on test so it's really easy to do well.
Very good professor. As long as you pay attention in class it is an easy A. Even got exempt from taking final
have three exams and one final, u will exempt form the final if the average of three exams is above 92.5, you need to do the assignment online for every chapter that she taught
Extremely boring off topic lectures. Then makes test which are intentionally incredibly hard, several questions had double and triple negatives in order to trick students. Also frequently comes to class smelling of alcohol and clearly hung over. Friends reported this same thing from other years/semesters. Avoid if possible
Professor Cherry's class was pretty average. It wasn't overly easy but not hard either. She sometimes has an attitude with students and would randomly snap at people who were talking. Lecture were boring and the tests were straight forward. OK class.
This was by far the easiest class I had last semester. Attending class is unnecessary especially if you have a friend who can show you the notes. This class is extremely easy for students who can study on their own. When I paid attention to her I had no problem, but I read the textbook as well. Do well on the exams and get exempt from the final. A
Great prof can be a little too energetic but great! A little challenging but if you pay attention you are good. Encourages class participation there is a crazy curve for her class. On the 1st exam there was a 10 point curve. She posts notes online, practice tests and review sheet. Will answer any question that you might have. highly recommended.
Easy class with notes that you fill in as you go. Nice curve on the exams. Gives you a lot of chances to keep your grade up. Pay attention and do the work and you'll get an A.
She is probably one of the worst professors I have ever had. Completely confusing and always makes mistakes on notes. Do everything you can to avoid taking her class.
Pretty regular class. Online homework, 3 tests and a final. But if you get an A on all tests she you are exempt from the final. Online homework on APLIA twice a week, and if you go to her office hours, she helps a lot. One of the TAs, Eugine i think? He is really hot... ;)
The class is easy, and has ridiculously high curve. I get exempt from final, but it is not what I am expect for an economic class.
Very good professor. Fill-in the blank notes, and easy, straight forward tests. Even got exempt from the final because of getting A's on all 3 tests. There's online Aplia homework, but those are very easy too. Overall, great class and easy A.
really liked her fill in the blank notes. hard to pay attention though in class being that it wasn't mandatory. sometimes she is all over the place but she really does know the material well. i would never take one of her classes again, but she is nice
I think as long as you go to class, do the homework, and review the materials regularly, you have no problem getting an A in the class. The final is fairly easy, I improved my grade by taking the final exam.
She is entertaining to watch but the course is difficult to pay attention to. She uses fill in notes which are nice but they make it harder to focus in class. Exams are difficult. Don't expect an easy A in this class. It takes work.
Very enthusiastic and interesting lady. Very approachable and helpful. Posts notes online. Attendance not mandatory. Explains concepts poorly but fill in the blank notes are helpful. Online hw Aplia is easy. Weighs tests too heavily but has extremely high curves. You can get exempted from final if you have 92.5 average on all 3 exams.
Not very helpful or clear when teaching topics. Snaps at students for talking in a 400 person lecture. Purposely makes tests hard and tricky, decent curve. Online homework (Aplia) is fairly helpful.
Makes tests extremely difficult for an easy subject. Makes the questions very tricky in order to confuse the student. Do not take her because she makes an easy class difficult.
She tries to help during lecture answering some questions but the test are still impossible. I study for 3 days before each test and still receive 70s without the curve. Luckily, everyone else bombs the tests too so the curve is usually over 10 points. Not a bad class, just boring and takes a lot of studying
Where do I begin ?? Well I went to her class maybe 3 times, saw her handwriting, and decided that going to class and reading her horrific hand writing wasn't for me. The notes are confusing and sloppy. All I did was read the Aplia text book, much better than her boring/horrible lectures.
Don't buy the text book. She posts her notes online so there is no need to go to class. However tests are hard and don't relate to the class/homework. Inputs her own opinions all the time. Simply does not make sense.
Tough professor. Makes up notes. Her "reviews" aren't helpful. Her class has no correlation towards the tests.
Her class was boring, had to fight sleep constantly. Her notes are fill-in the blank notes. Memorization is definately not needed. YOU NEED TO UNDERSTAND THE MATERIAL. Tests were super hard, but high curve. failed 2 tests, dropped one of those two, passed final with a curve, and recieved a B- on course.
This class really isn't bad, I found that reading the book was the best tool for learning the material and performing on the tests. Only went to the classes where she reviewed. Just read the book and you should do fine.
I had Cherry last semester for Micro and for some reason I decided to take her again for Macro. By far my most regrettable decision yet. Cherry is probably the worst economics teacher at UB. Her lecture notes are sloppy and her exams are worded so confusingly. Do NOT take this class whatever you do!
A useless and pointless teacher. For our last test she only gave us a 10 point curve because more than half of our class doesn't show up… even though attendance ISN'T mandatory and we have the option to go to her later lecture. Unfair and makes the tests way more difficult than they should be. Don't take Cherry's class!
Her notes are confusing and messy. Often have typos. Does not explain any better than the textbook. Her review sessions are pointless. Review sheets do not help at all. Practice exams have nothing to do with the actual test. Her tests are super difficult. Lecture attendance is not mandatory. All notes are posted online. Lectures are pointless.
Exams are very easy if you read your notes several times. Each exam gets curved which guarantees your A. Notes are a bit messy but if you just read then you can understand. No final if you get an A on your each exam (3 total)
Curves the test but makes the test really wordy. Really hard to get an unless a lot of people in the class fails the test. Messy notes especially her handwriting. She's not really that organized.
Mrs. Cherry is a very nice lady adn will any student with any questions they may have on the material. As others have said she is a little confusing with teacher the stuff and her notes are a bit messy but as long as you go to class and pay attention and go to the discussions you should be fine. Plus all As on the three exams means no final.
Terrible teacher... confusing and disorganized. Notes are pointless and sloppy. Tests are way too hard for a basic economics class. Constant typos on tests. Practice exams don't help and don't even bother with review sessions... waste of time. Don't take this teacher.
Cherry is a HORRIBLE teacher and I honestly couldn't stress that enough. She does not explain things well at all. Her practice exams are pointless because they are NOTHING like the actual tests, so don't even bother with them. The final is crazy hard (as are all of her tests). So basically, do NOT take her
Her notes are very unclear and hard to follow, especially when you look over them after class. She adds strange clipart that is badly formatted on microsoft word. There was way too many economic terms that she didn't take the time to teach; if you don't teach them to yourself in the beginning you will be lost throughout the whole semester.
WORST teacher I have ever had in my entire life. Should not be able to teach 1st graders, let alone college students. Does more to confuse then actually help. Skipping class and teaching yourself will leave you better off as she assumes all students know as much as her. Absolutely terrible do anything to get out of her class. Would give her a 0.
just so hard to pay attention and the tests are ridiculously hard
She's the professor you'll be yaking about. Lectures feel like they take forever. If you do take her class I suggest getting the textbook and also doing the homework even though neither are mandatory.
Don't take it
This class will get ya. You really have to pay attention in class which isnt easy to do since nothing about her lectures are entertaining. Tests are difficult (especially the 2nd test) even if you think you have a grasp on the material since the questions are very wordy. Solid curve though. I got a 3745 and that somehow became a 97
She Is a great person and she will always help you. The only problem is her notes are really confusing and really messy. She gives hard tests but their is always a curve and she gives out a practice test which is incredibly helpful. Her questions are really wordy so be careful on tests. She isn't as bad as everybody else says she is.
This class has the honor of holding down the #1 spot on the Worst Classes Ever Taken In College List. Her notes are so messy, unorganized and frustrating that it is borderline ridiculous. In all honesty, I suggest straight up skipping class and doing your own work outside of it- but you really have to work.
This is a teacher that wont let you take a test on a different day, or a different time if you were dying in a hospital. Her lectures are unclear and her notes are not english. She does post the filled in notes on her website but get ready to search multiple pdfs to find what your looking for. She posts part 1-1.9 million of a section
She is a terrible teacher
No homework, just quizzes and tests. Quizzes are unbelievably easy, but her 3 tests are really tough. She gives a practice test to help out a bit, but her lecture notes have almost nothing to do with the test. she is probably the nicest and most enthusiastic teacher i've had so far at UB, and is always willing to help with questions you have
This professor is well educated but can't teach if her life depended on it. -You will not understand what she is saying, with the way she explains things. -Her notes are very confusing. -dont even go to class you have a better chance with out it. -test are entirely different from what she teaches.
If you can avoid her, by all means do so. Her exams are wordy, she is WAY too enthusiastic, and her notes are sloppy.
The lectures are long and boring but she knows her stuff. Don't need to go to class. She puts the notes online. If you study and do the hw you should be fine.
This professor sucks! Do not take her. Her lectures are unclear. The questions on the exam are really stupid and doesn't actually test your understanding of the course. If you really want to LEARN Econ take a class elsewhere. Her practice tests have nothing to do with her actual exams. Boring lectures. She should not be teaching at all
Her lectures Are everywhere. Not organized and side notes everywhere. Quizzes online, 3 exams throughout the semester and a final at the end. Exams are really wordy! Thankfully for my TA to help me understand the material better. You can go to an early or later class but that may mess you up. If anything, go to her office hours, more helpful there.
Monica is not the greatest teacher out there. She is nice and ready to help, but her lectures are boring and confusing. She gives 3 exams over the semester and one final from which i was exempted as I got As on all 3 exams which was a great motivation. I stopped going to lectures after the first one test and mostly worked with her online notes.
Professor Cherry, although high-spirited and enthusiastic, is not much help when it comes to Economics. She is very, VERY wordy. If you do not work around this, the class will be very hard to pass. Discussions are not mandatory, but I suggest attending them, especially if you're doing bad. Pretty sure she's the only macro professor at UB, too.
Stopped going to class after the first test. Lectures are pointless and you're better off using that time to go to the library and doing other work. She posts the notes online if you really want to look at them. I got by, by studying the review packets she gave before a test. Weekly online quizzes and 3 testsa final exam. Avoid her if possible.
I have never had a professor this bad in my life. Took econ to fill some spare time, it was easy but she makes it so painfully boring. My favorite day was when she placed her credit card, with number, a personal check, with account and routing numbers visible, up on the overhead for 350 people to see. Bravo!
3 in class tests, 1 final. If you can force yourself to pay attention then the material is relatively clear. However if not (as is most cases) then you will have to dedicate your days leading up to the tests to studying in order to receive an A. She is not as bad as many people say on here. She is just rather boring with relatively difficult tests.
Dr. Cherry is a very nice woman and really not anywhere near what people have said about her. DON'T SKIP CLASS, reading the notes online, you will probably not understand the material as well. She uses a lot of abbreviationshas a phobia of writing words out and it can be hard to follow her thought process if you didn't hear her verbally say it.
Attending classes is essential as you won't get the symbols right if you don't .
cherry is a great professor. do her review sheets.. it literally covers everything that'll be on the test. 3 exams, 1 final. if you get A's on the 3 exams, you're exempt from the final. she also drops the lowest exam score and gives pretty big curves. you don't need to go to lecture, she posts notes online. also, i found reading the book helpful.
She writes notes, so go to class so you'll understand what she is saying. I didn't even use the book. Listen, it's not that boring, it's actually very interesting. Try to follow in class as best as you can, then at home re-read the notes over & over. Do the practice test, also the review, also the HW, they all help. I got an A, it's not that hard.
It's not that I don't like her, shes a nice lady and means well. But I think I would rather take up Chinese. I've never done badly in school but she moves so quickly and just asks quickly "is everyone ok!?" when no one has a clue what's going on. You can tell students are so confused that they don't wanna raise a hand. Do your Aplia assignments!
She gets kind of annoying sometimes, but overall she is pretty okay. Three Mid terms and one final. She give out A LOT OF NOTES. You really need to read them and make sure you understand , otherwise, you will NOT be able to pass her class.
3 tests and a final which you don't have to take, provided you ace all 3 tests. I got just below an A so I had to take the final which bothered me but she's not a bad teacher, but you need to actually understand the material to pass. If you work for it, you'll be fine. Notes are online but just go to class
She hands out notes that are so useless. The tests are way harder and are applied rather than just definition. She alway questions the class "is everyone ok?!" but there falls a quite
she's a really nice teacher.
I honestly feel so stupid in this class. I take Marcoeconomics because it is required for my major but she is the worst professor ever. I wish UB had better professor bc she's considered "good" compare to the others. She doesn't respond to emails, messy handwriting, goes through lecture with minimal explanation and sometimes very snappy.
She's a nice lady with good intentions, but the homework and notes seem irrelevant. The tests are way harder than the homework. 3 exams and final, but you can be exempt from the final if you get all As. Saving factor: she drops your lowest test grade. Notes are online but messy, so going to class is better. Didn't learn enough for my major...
One of the worst professors I've had yet. Notes are hard to follow and the class is dangerously boring. Bring a pillow. Will not be taking her ever again. Homework does not go along with the notes at all. Difficult to get a good grade. Good luck.
Doesn't mandate attendance and she posts her notes online but they can be messy. Gives 3 tests (drops the lowest, adds on a good curve), weekly online quiz for homework . A'S on everything gets you excused from her final. Her office hours are very helpful and her lectures are just fill in notes so class and studying are easier to understand
Many students failed the exams but it is certainly possible to ace every 1 and skip the final. I was able to do it by doing every HW, studying the notes throughly, and going over the exam topics. Just a tip: don't focus a lot of time on the practice exams. She says they're similar but they really aren't. Just study the notes and the topics
Not a huge fan of this class, I actually had a meeting with one of my advisors, who said this is a tough class for most business students. I had trouble keeping pace because it seemed like she jumps around the notes packet quite a bit. Class ended early a lot and there is usually a decent curve on exams.
The homework she gives doesn't help on the tests. Her tests are full of trickery even my tutor says she plays tricks. All in one week she gave us one extra homework which was due tues, the homework she gave originally which we though was the only homework she was going to give due wed. The test was on thurs. Khan academy teaches better than her.
tough exams.
Worst teacher I ever had. Had an A with other eco teacher and barely passing this class
the online homework that she gives helps you learn the material and it's pretty easy to get a B in this class as long as you show up and pay attention in class
Expect to put it work compared to other business classes
Literally the easiest class I have ever taken. Got an A on all three midterms so she let me skip the final. Just review the practice test and you'll be fine.
Very hard class do not take if its not necessary. Tests are very tough too and requires a of studying.
Not the worst but definitely not the best class. Her practice exams really don't help for the real exams. Always between two options on the test like the person below me said. 14 point on 3rd test though so if you can get a 70 you'll get an 84 which you should be able to do by just reading the notes and doing aplia
Took her for 181 last semester, for 182 is just same structure.I just study without her lectures. I watched some youtube videos, those are really helpful
TAKE ANY OTHER PROFESSOR. her tests are nothing like her notes (which are horrible) or her practice exams. hardest tests in the world, you could get a 100 on the practice and a 15 on the real test. she gives out so much homework ( 2 online test each week which take 1-2 hours per assignment) drop class now and wait until another professor teaches it
overall, kinda awful
Terrible teacher. Doesn't explain concepts and notes are unfocused . Most of learning is done independently. Tests are hard and confusing. Lectures drag on. DON'T TAKE HER CLASS.
Honestly I study A lot for the exams and the test are like nothing she teaches in class she loves to trick you on the tests which is not something a teacher should take pride in. I want to learn about economics for my major not to be tricked on my tests for your own self joy..
Get ready to not know what the hell is going on.
Very difficult to pass
This class was easy.. not sure why people say difficult to pass. I never went to lecture and taught myself everything and pulled out a B. She curves heavy and the HW is easy.. take if you want to never show up and are good at teaching yourself.
She's an enthusiastic professor. So it matters how you learn but lectures are definitely important. Although at the same time it's not. Her exams consist of the concepts not specifically textbook or her notes. So you HAVE TO UNDERSTAND. If you get high grades on the first 3 (i think) exams you can be excused for last one.
Print out the notes! You CAN take notes on your laptop but she draws graphs & does math equations in the margins. I study so much and the test is nothing like her practice exam. Recitations are optional. "If you get As on all 3 exams & have a high grade in aplia(online hw) you will be exempt from finals" HA good luck Exams50%, Hw15%, Final Exam35%
Her method of teaching is very different to the way her exams are. But the main thing is to understand the materials like the back of your hand. I relied more on the textbook than her notes but she does post her completed notes. This class is not recorded and you should attend it because it is easier to understand when someone else teaches you.
Her test are tricky, she frequently messes up her study guides
She is amazing. I love her. Easy Class. You must take her class. She is the best in UB. Love Her ! Follow Her! And Trust Her !
Lecture's don't help with the exams at all. Teach yourself everything by using aplia or go to a tutor. Practice exams and review much easier than exams. High curve because so many people do horribly. Not a good teacher for a pre-req class for business majors that require a certain gpa. If you have then opportunity, take someone else for this course
Really disappointed with this class. Lecture does not help, the notes she gives you do not help. Exams are relatively unfair, even if you go over the practice exam and review sheet prior to taking it.
Extremely disappointed.... I would avoid taking Macro with Cherry.......
learned a lot very good teacher
She is a very nice woman. Many students don't attend class and that's probably why they don't do well. You have to actually understand the material rather than just memorizing and she gives extensive reviews for the 3 mid-term exams. Nice curves and an A on all three will get you exempt from the final.
Worst professor I've ever had. Notes are full in but she messes them up. Seems like she doesn't know the material. Review tests and sheets are way easier than exams. Take anybody but her.
She is a pretty fair grader. Do your aplias and do well on the midterms and you'll get an A. All you have to do is average out to mid 90's on all three midterms.
Easy if you put in the work. Go to recitations it will help you a lot. After each lectures, just read the textbook before or after. Her work is really not that hard. She has a poor rating because she has 400+ student in every lecture and everyone has different learning style. Dont blame her if you do poor.
Don't take her if you're confused with the way you're supposed to learn for mcq's.
She has fill in notes for her lectures and her homework on aplia can be very confusing at times. Her tests are nothing like her practice tests and are more difficult. The double negative is used at times in her tests so I would watch out for that.
One of the worst professors I have ever had. She was horrible at explaining class material. The homework's did not correlate with her exams at all. This was an extremely frustrating course. The only perk of taking her class was the curve. She curved our grades by almost a full letter grade
Worst professor ever. fyi all her test questions are on the test generator on mind tap. Definitely teach yourself this course.
Although in her syllabus it says that she'll teach in a way that makes us understand and not memorize, she does the complete opposite. Fill-in notes are the worst way to write notes because you're too busy copying it down to even understand what it is. She goes way too fast and exams are nothing like the lectures. Studying by yourself is better.
Dislike terribly, exams are terrible and reflect only half of what you learn.
Do the aplia test questions for the chapters before every exam and just go over and try to understand her notes. I did better self studying. go over the practice questions she gives before her exams- some are similar. not an impossible course, just could be taught better...
She is not as bad as people say she is. If you go to class and pay attention, its a easy A. Her tests are not that hard and most of the time, you get a pretty big curve(10-15 points). If you get 3 A's on her test, you can skip the final which is awesome.
This class was pretty dull. I'm a good student although I found it difficult to pay attention. She expects you to print out notes before class. She fills in the notes along the way but her handwriting is very bad and it is sometimes difficult to read. 3 exams although the lowest grade is dropped. If you get an A on all 3 exams final is dropped.
Don't take her. She does NOT care at all about her students. She teaches just to "do her job" and leave. She seems as though she cannot be bothered BY ANYTHING. She takes weeks to reply to emails. She should do better.
Worst professor at UB. I wish I wouldn't have taken her. She doesn't know how to present material clearly at all. You are better off teaching yourself.
She has been the worst professor that I have ever had in my entire education. She fills in notes all class, and writes with very sloppy handwriting. Very hard to follow along. She really needs to change her teaching style, it's not a coincidence she has all these bad reviews. UB's entire economics department is very bad from my understanding.
She is the best professor for ECO181 and ECO182 . She taught her class with great enthusiasm. Her class is fun and you can really learnt something from her class. She accepted pop questions in her class. It's necessary to do her homework since it is a factor of the final class and it dose help you better understand the content.
Horrible Handwriting and Not very friendly
Honestly, Prof. Cherry is one of the best professors I've ever had. Pay attention in class and there is no reason not to get a good grade. She provides a huge curve and drops your lowest test which saved me. She is very open and welcoming to her office hours. Learning the material is essential don't just memorize.
Her tests are not even close to what you spend time learning in lectures. Also its kind of a joke how you just spend the whole time filling in the blanks for notes on a preprinted, unprofessionally formatted worksheet.
She is a sweetheart, I didn't expect her ratings to be so low because I find her note taking system and explanations easy to understand. Also, she'll answer questions if ya'll ask so don't be afraid to take this class. It's a bit boring sometimes but I would just recommend a 50 minute lecture rather than 1 hour and 20 minutes.
To be honest, her class is very easy, given you attend lecture and take notes(or not, since she posts all her material online), you will granted an easy A. And all A's on three midterms granted you exemption from the final, which is great for giving more time to review other harder courses. Took her for both ECO 181 and ECO 182, pleasant experience
Would not recommend, all she does in lecture is go over write-in notes with sloppy handwriting and doesn't stop to fully explain. She cares and is always available for help. If you show up and study you should pass.
lectures are fill in the blanks which makes it easy to listen to her during lecture. The midterms were fair however the cumulative final was pretty overwhelming. The material is not too hard if you work hard towards understanding it forwards AND backwards. The homework isn't very long and as long as you know the material they should be fairly easy.
her class is really easy if you just pay attention, but the notes are posted online so attendance isn't mandatory. notes are kind of weird but they contain all the info you need to do well on exams. exams are easy and she curves them a lot in your favor. exempt from final with an A on every midterm which is completely possible especially w the curv
If you failed this class that says more about you than this professor. It was one of the easiest """hard""" classes I've ever taken. Walked in thinking I could possibly fail, walked out with an A. Seriously, how do you fail a class with an at times 15+ point curve?
You'll have to read the textbook and study, because her lectures don't quite cut it when it comes to the test. Study hard and go to class and you should be fine.
Amazing proffesor. Just memorize the study guide. A real sweet heart.
Awesome professor, just use the study guide and practice exams and you'll get As. She really cares and gives you lots of chances to succeed. Glad I took her.
This class is hard af. She does not make it any easier.
Professor Cherry/Litzenberger is an EXCEPTIONAL EDUCATOR. Don't listen to everyone else, YOU have to be proactive if you don't understand something. Professor Cherry always has her doors open for office hours and she gets excited when students come in. SHE CARES but she makes you work for it, go to recitation and READ THE TEXTBOOK. 3 A's No final
Professor Cherry's eco182 is an average big lecture hall class. She uses Cengage for the text and homework, which was frustrating and prone to errors. Do homework early and take screenshots if you want her to fix them but it's easy enough where they wont ruin your grade. She permits the use of electronics in class, which I'm always grateful for.
A lot of my classmates didnt like Monica. Personally I did, I felt she was very straightforward and gave you what you needed to succeed. Her lectures are very long and dry, but if you do some reading outside of class theres no reason you wont do well.
Although Monica is very nice, this was a very tough course. Her lectures are very boring and felt stale. The tests are very long, and she squeezes so much content into each that it becomes easy to forget about certain topics. She assigns a textbook, but her teaching does not relate to it at all, so it was hard to trust information given from it.
Awful lecture, worst teaching skill. Spends hundreds of dollars on your online homework.
Self-taught+Business Help Center got me through w an A. Not tough and the packets are great but the lectures are awful, I stopped going after the second test. I scored 100's on all of the tests and was exempt from the final (Only if you have all As on the tests). I'm stupid in economics but put the time and effort in (w tutoring) and you'll be fine
In regards to my last (ran out of characters on my last), I would take her over again because your other options are worse, suck it up and take her class and go to tutoring.
Absolutely HATED this class and this woman. First professor that caused me to cry because her class was so terrible. Watch the cup she sips on throughout class - she stutters/mumbles and reeks of alcohol when you go to talk to her. I would've rather put in extra time and effort with a good professor where I wouldn't have had to teach myself.
i dont get the issues that people have with monica. she's nice and taught everything she needed to. she may not have been the very best at teaching, but ive taken 3 classes with her and not once did i think she was worse than most other econ professors. a lot (not all) of them are rude and/or not clear at teaching, trust me, shes not that bad
