Excellant teacher, very helpful, and very forgiving. Pleasure to take.
Mrs. Cubberly is a terrific teacher for the summer course sections. The work load is appropriate, and she is a pleasure to take. Highly recommended.
WONDERFUL! all should take her, such a nice lady!
Superb. Highly, highly recommended. A course where you actually can learn something, and still manage to stay awake! Monica Cubberly is very down to earth, and tells great stories.
SUPER! Love this teacher! Very easy to follow, interesting lectures. Class wasn't ever boring. She uses lots of pictures and trivia to back it up. She never tests over dates, only the important events. Very good study sheet, the tests are straight from it. Take her class!!!!
Prof. Cubberly is the best History professor on campus, bar none. Class isn't boring; she uses PowerPoint presentations, pictures, audio, video, the works! Tests are fairly easy and she's easy to get along with too. A+
Prof Cubberly is a great teacher. She makes come alive and it is very fun. Definitely take her in the summer!
Other ratings are so off base, most unprepared instructor I've hade in my 4 semesters of college, should be teaching JR. High somewhere. was so off base on most of her facts about history. If all you want is a grade take her. If want to learn history take Coulter for both historys.Have to wait weeks on every paper to be graded, and so not HOT
I took her in the summer. Everyone should as well. She gives a study guide which the test ?s which come straight from it. You also have to take notes for the test. I didnt even have to read the text book. The tests and the homework assignments are online. There is a research paper but she gives enough time to finish it. She is a very cool teacher!
Top Choice for History teacher!!! She is sooo nice!!!
WORST TEACHER I EVER HAD! Tests are too hard, and her lecture dosen't make sense . You need to study the book forever. She's not helpful at all especially if she know you need her help! By the way, you have to call her PROFESSOR(!); otherwise shell be mad af you. Overally, she really needs to take some teacher training courses.
Wonderful professor, easy going, and very helpful. Do what you are supposed to and you will be fine.
She is very nice and is always willing to help her students. I like how she cares about her classes. All her test are usually given on Web CT and a term paper in place of the final. Study guides are provided to help in advance of the exam. She really tries to be a very fair teacher with all her students and uses powerpoint for all her presentations. All in all if you work hard, pay attention in class and take good notes it is possible to make an "A". I would recommend her class to my friends!!!!
shes GREAT! very entertaining and knos her stuff! I hated history until i took her class. not a hard class AT ALL
SHE SUCKED. SHE WASNT VERY NICE ALL HER ASSIGMENTS WERE THROUGH WEB CT.
If you do anything in your lifetime, take her class. She is an awesome teacher. She's very funny and illustrates the lessons very well. It's not like she's *too* entertaining but just enough where you really understand the material. She is very understanding. Take her class.
AWFUL! This was one of my first online class and she has definitly not let me with a good impression. She responds to emails late, doesn't make assignments clear. She is late on grading. I am VERRRRY disappointed!
Unclear on instructions, and then graded hard. If you are looking for certain information in the essays.. you should state your expectations! More work in this class then in english 1301 during WINTERMESTER!!
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS! This is NOT an English class, but you might be mistaken by all of the essays you have to write! She does not tell you why you got a low grade on an essay, but expects you to better next time.
she was very nice and understanding. if you did bad on a test she will let you correct it and then she will give you a better grade. really helps. fun to listen to.
Great teacher! Her reviews are literally the test and the test are online so you can use it. There were 10 assignments in my 5 week summer course which is alot, but most assignments she just handed out 100s. Anyone can make an A in this class.
I took her for 1301 and 1302. She is awesome, very into her teaching makes it fun albeit she will keep you the whole time allotted. Just read and take notes the study guides are the tests so know the material on them and you will do fine. The writing caught me off guard and she really expects you to write good papers.
she was good but talked alot
Great teacher! Will help you if you are having a hard time. Makes History fun.
Unorganized or Overwelmed? Doesn't respond to emails. Overall poor communication. Wrong answers on WEBCT.
Lives for teaching history. Made it easy and interesting to learn the material. You take your test online and if you miss the deadline to take the test, like i did she would open it up for you to take, other professors won't do that and would put in a 0 for that test. That was very helpfull for me at least.
This is my second class with this professor and I really enjoy her classes.
I thought her class was good and would recommend her to anyone.
LOVE HER! She's so funny, and really makes history fun and interesting. Everything is submitted online and she is very understanding about everything, just keep in contact and speak up in class and she will work with you on anything!
She is hard!!!!!!!!!!! Her lectures are absolutely pointless because her tests are information that's in the book. Her outlines are vague, and her teaching sucks! If a curve is given on EVERY exam because the class average on tests are that low, then what does that say about her teaching! IF YOU ARE NOT AN AUDITORY LEARNER, I WOULD NOT ADVISE YOU T
Professor Cubberly is an okay teacher. Her lectures can be extremely boring but she finds way to draw her students into her stories. The only problem with her are her tests! THEY ARE INCREDIBLY HARD, AND HER ANSWERS ON WEBCT ARE SOMETIMES WRONG!!!!!!!!!!
Professor Cubberly is a nice enough lady, and tells great stories. The only problem is that the test are not really what she covers in lecture, and some of the answers in web ct ARE WRONG! She takes too long to get grades back to students, which is annouying especially if you may have to drop the class.
She would be a good middle, but I was very disappointed that I ended up taking this class with her. I'm still in high school and took this class to get ahead and earn a college credit, but she made it impossible to pass. She told me that my essay was great, but I got a terrible grade on it. The lectures are irrelevant to the tests.
She is a nice teacher. I would disagree totally with the previous comments. If you take notes and follow her study guide, you shouldn't have a problem. The test are online so you can use your notes and the book. Yes, some of the questions are hard but she gives a curve on most of the test. She does grade hard on the research paper. Use quotes.
Took this class online during the summertime. Although a majority of the class (60%) is based on tests that come virtually straight from the book, the other 40% is based on five essays and discussions that are impossible to pass! So far she has not passed one of my writing assignments and states that they have "too much background"!!!
I took a summer online class. It was a short time to finish all the load but it was doable. Since this is an online class, there is not much to talk about her in person. Whenever I called her, she answered nicely. Email was usually anwered in a day. She gives 65 extra credit if you finish some quizzes.
She enjoys teaching and will help with anything you need. she gives lecutre exams so you have to come to class. You have to read the whole book and do ch tests. She will give the whole class a curve and extra credit.
I took her summer class. The workload is normal for a summer class. She's not good as a teacher. She has opinion topics and will tell you your opinion is wrong and give you a bad grade for it. I would not recommend taking her class unless you want to be extremely frustrated at her lack of teaching ability.
I totally agree with the previous person comments. I took this course with the expectation of having the ability to pass this course. Unless you want to be graded on your opinions and received a bad grade because your opinon did not support her views prepare yourself to fail. Overwhelming course with essays worth more than test scores. Save your $
DO NOT TAKE HER...PLEASE TAKE ANYONE BUT HER! She should not be teaching! Her education degree is from a crackle jack box. I took her class and realized I am failing because no matter how hard I have worked she still failed me. She does not teach a thing and expect you to know it before you get there.Someone needs to fire this person!
If you have this prof, switch classes asap! She is completely opinionated and has no desire to have an open mind when reading papers. She cannot give postive feedback if her life depended on it. I do not know how she is still a professor!!! It is nearly impossible to get above a C, and that is working extra hard!
Prejudice towards grading effectively. If your last name is Smith or Brown guess what you pass this class. This professor should not be a professor?I think she got in from nosing the right person to teach this class. I wish I had followed what the other students had done and that was to drop out but hey?lesson learn. I warn you NOT to take this B**
She keeps history interesting with her stories. She is also very funny! I was not interested in history at all however i was not bored out of my mind in her class. She's a very easy teacher because all tests and quizzes are taken online at home. As long as you slightly pay attention in class and use your textbook it is a very easy class to pass!
Do Not take her on-line class! I didn?t learn a THING about History. She should have been an English teacher. Her writing assignments are brutal. She takes off large amounts of points for grammar mistakes, simple punctuation errors, and using words like ?thing?. Her tests are fairly easy and come straight from the book, but she grades heavily o
Great teacher made history fun the whole semester.
She is also a middle school teacher and even tell you at the beginning of the semester that "shes just going to talk about the stories she likes throughout history" she doesnt go over any of the quiz information and her "reveiws" are just long lists of seemingly random topics, shes funny and nice but theres a reason she teaches middle school.
Lectures are long & irrelevant to the tests and quizzes. 300 word writing assignments every week that have virtually nothing to do with the material, and will be significantly marked down if it differs from her personal opinion. The testsquizzes are out of the book and are not covered during class. Stay away!
Class was about 3 hours long. Probably one of the hardest classes I've taken. She talks about her middle school kids and absolutely nothing that has to do with the exams. Rambles on random topics. She is extremely hard on the essays. Gives harsh feedback. Would not recommend! Don't waste your money.
The course consists of 15 take at home, open book quizzes, 10 essays (300 words) and 5 tests over lectures. The lectures are long, but she is very knowledgeable and excited about history and makes it interesting. She does have high expectations, but is fair. This is the class to take if you like history, NOT if you want a blow-off class!
WOULD NEVER TAKE HER CLASS Again! The answers to her lecture exams are not in the book or online. If you don't write what she wants to read on the essays she will fail you. She doesn't accept late assignments. Gives bad feedback on the essays.
very unorganized and unclear
On the lecture exams if you don't pay attention and listen to her lectures you are SCREWED on the lecture exams. If you only read the textbook to take the lecture exam you will still fail. Her class is poorly laid out and she doesn't know how to use canvas efficiently. She rarely responds to her emails and she isn't very understanding.
Runnn
Here's the breakdown of things: Lecture tests are strictly from her lectures and are essay type, quizzes are from book readings, and group papers are from different articles. She's a tough grader and would deduct points if your opinion for one topic is different than hers. Don't mix up lecture info with book info or you're screwed.
class online- For a class on History, seems more like an English class to me. Graded about minor grammar fluctuations is very odd, the main topic of the class, HISTORY. Get ready to do a 400-word essay every week. Oh, and the exam, it's absolutely massive. Be ready to work for days on it, writing. Yeah, and there's four of them. 8*4+weekly300 D:D:(
TAKE HER CLASS!!!! She was my favorite professor for the whole semester! I am taking her for a second time next semester! Her lectures were interesting and she kept me engaged the whole time.
Take her class! She will work with you to help you do your best.
It can be very hard to keep up with the workload she assigns. She lectures alot and if you miss a day, good luck catching up
Shes pretty strict when it comes to grading. She gives a lot of workload too. It was hard for me to catch up with her during her lectures because of how fast she was going.
I had Miss. Cubberly this past semester and I can tell you first hand that she gives a lot of work and is a tough grader. She's bias when it comes to grading assignments. In order to keep up you have to be there every class period. if you get sick and miss a class you'll have a lot of work to catch up on.
Guys, we are in college, in a history class. Of course youll read. She is an amazing professor and her lectures are so intriguing and interesting, she just draws you in. Her work is so easy, she definitely utilizes your critical thinking. Youll connect themes to a chapter, and youll connect chapters to each other, Ch. 22 to Ch. 23. Loved her.
I took her class for credit and I swear It was one of the hardest classes Ive taken. She grades harshly and doesnt treat her students with equal amounts of respect. Her lectures were hard to keep up with because of how fast she was going. If your looking for a course thats really challenging than I would recommend her class, otherwise I wouldnt
Dont take her class, youll regret it! Her lectures have nothing to do with the tests we take. I
This teacher does not grade well and grades extremely hard for things that shouldnt be makes class very hard and every assignment counts. Also every word in the lectures matter but never connect well to the text book or what we are learning. Gives students passing grades if they turn in everything and wont award effort.
Shes a good professor and I learn a lot through her lectures. Shes definitely a strict grader, but shes good at teaching the material needed to do decent on the exams.
Only take this professor if you don't got a lot going on. I personally work a part-time job and take 4 other course classes on top of HIST 1301. HIST 1301 has been the main class that stresses me out so much more than it should. The professor is definitely a hard grader. She has high expectations for all the work if you don't meet she will deduct.
I have never been so stressed out over one class. She grades very harsh and no matter how hard you try she'll probably not give you a grade you expect. I've worked 2 jobs while taking 5 college courses at one point and no other class is as hard as this one. She also focuses way too much on writing and grammar. This is a history class!
I really am a hard-working dedicated student that gets my work done on time. This was most definitely the hardest class I have ever taken. Can not tell you one thing I've learned from this class and her lectures do not make sense. Instructions for assignments are unclear. Would not recommend taking this class.
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS. The workload she provides is insane. Take her if you literally have nothing else going on, but if you are already juggling with work or school, then DON'T. She grades hard and all of the assignments are painful. Also her extra credits are also so much work!
This teacher is very nice, understanding, and gives a lot of extra credit that helps you out through the semester. However, she is an extremely tough grader so ask her to check your work. She doesn't do regular tests, she does these assignments that count as an exam where you have to connect the textbook and lectures to themes. TAKE NOTES!!!
Solid professor. I had her in summer 2020 online and in person, and I intend to take her again for HIST 1302 this fall. A lot of reading, but it is a history class, you should expect some reading regardless of the teacher. All the materials we needed were online and as long as you quote or reference the material in your writing you'll pass.
She seems to be a great person but for a history professor, she cares way too much about grammar and writing. I don't remember a single thing in her class and she's definitely one of those "you'll never get 100 in my class" professors.
Took her history class over the summer because I wanted the credit from an easy community college. The assignments themselves shouldn't be hard, but the way she grades them is infuriating and contradictory.
The grading criteria are super unclear. There's no way to do well on her tests and the class average shows it. When the average score after an exam is a fail, it's usually the teacher's fault.
To pass this class, you must actually do the reading from the book. The tests are graded very roughly. She offers so many extra credit opportunities. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THEM!! Its a history class, read the material and you'll be alright.
Cubberly does not teach in a normal style. she does not give tests she gives connection exams. tough grader, very unclear and does not match my style of learning.
Professor Cubberly takes a different approach when it comes to teaching history, and its reflected in the assignments you complete for this course. For exams, instead of memorizing dates or people, you take what you learn and apply it to themes. Her grading is extremely strict on these exams, but provides great feedback. Extra credit is plentiful.
If you want to take a history class this is not your professor. If you want to take an english class this is perfect for you. Far too many homework assignments with inconsistent due dates and times. Assignments and tests have nothing to do with history, rather your reading and writing skills.
I would not recommend taking any classes with Professor Cubberly. She's an unclear teacher; repeatedly told us we had "no homework" when we, in fact, did; and makes her opinion on religion clear - religious people are boring and their beliefs are there to be ridiculed. I really regret taking this class, and I wish I picked a different professor.
she wont tell u ab any assignments and wont teach u how to do anything and fails everyone, switch if u get her!
Mrs.Cubberly made it seem like her connection exams (writing) were easier than an actual MCQ test. Do not fall for it!! She grades so hard and is very unclear on why you got the grade you got. I would not recommend taking this course if you want your grade to be below 70. Her teaching style is mainly lectures and class assignments.
Prof. Cubberly's lectures & textbook are interesting, but she uses grading as a cudgel, which distracts from the subject matter. The threat of failure looms even if you follow the rubrics and apply all feedback. This breaks trust, making the experience degrading & frustrating. Collin College, take note: Educators should be more principled.
This professor is unreasonable. It's borderline impossible to pass any of the 'connection' exams in 1301. She is an extremely tough grader, and no matter how good you do, she will find a way to deduct your grade significantly. Even if you do all the extra credit she provides, it'll maybe bring your grade up half a point. Collin should take action.
At the start she warned us that the assignments would be lengthy, but failed to mention how harshly she was going to grade us. She said that she hates Prof. that purposely fail their students, but that is what she does. I was sad because she made the content she was teaching seem interesting but her harsh grading made me lack interest in her class.
This professor has a very elaborating styling of teaching. She can teach but she's not personable at all. I think what was most confusing was her ability to discuss grades. She will pre-approve of your work before you turn it in but when she grades it she will un-approve it. She LOVES to fail people, her passing rate wasn't even 50% for my class.
She has great lectures that are intriguing and draw you in. Honestly she is probable one of the best lecturers I have ever had. She is an extremely tough and unfair grader. Has a very narrow point of view on what is correct and incorrect. Small mistakes are very costly to your grade. Only thing that saved mine was massive amounts of extra credit.
She'll grade super strictly and won't tell you what doing wrong. Even if you follow the advice she gives you, and her rubric; she'll still most likely fail you. Only reason I did good was because I had to take so much time out of my weeks to do many many extra credit assignments.
Professor Cubberly is a horrible teacher. Her writing assignments are very weird and unlike any history class I've taken before. She gives no directions or guidelines on how to write and then grades extremely harshly while giving no feedback except to look back at the guidelines. I don't understand how she made a history class this complicated
I took her summer class to get credit and to hopefully it being an easy course to knock out. It wasn't. She grades VERY picky and never gave me feedback to help my grade. Only reason I got an A was because I did extra credit and put hard work into it. She is hard and isn't reasonable in her grading. Other than that not a bad class.
We had these connection exams that she graded extremely hard! I don't know anybody in my class who got higher than an 80. I've taken 12 AP classes and this was my hardest class. Also in the last week of the semester she made 6 assignments due that all took at least 2 hours to complete. Only thing that saved my grade was ec. Don't take this class!
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS. I took her class and the exams for super percentage heavy and she doesn't give you feedback on what you do wrong.
Professor Cubberly is a tough grader who focuses more on writing than history. While her lectures are interesting, her unclear guidelines and harsh feedback make this class frustratingly difficult. unstuckstudy could help with prep.
It was a terribly ran class with a teacher who was extremely biased and passive aggressive in her grading, and unclear directions the only saving grace is the mountain of extra credit most students could barely get above a 50 on her connection exams. Do not take this professor if you don't wanna feel like you're constantly being talked down to
She is a terrible grader and does not give any help on assignments. She mentioned how lengthy things would be, but made it known before we started the course that she hates professors who intentionally fail their students, and she is one of those professors. There is a lot of extra credit, but it's outside of class and during your class time.
Yeah get ready to do an assignment on Thursday with a due date of Friday on canvas but since there was actually a little box in modules that said it was due on Wednesday, it's late. Also get ready to have an assignment due at 11:55 AM, not PM. So if you wake up the day it's due and think you have the whole day to work on it, try 3-4 hours pal.
