She is a very nice teacher she has a corny type of humor. She is very passionate about the class she is a great teacher that makes you interested. She makes me want to get involved even when the class is at 6:30 till 9:20. Over all it was a great experience she makes the class interesting

Take this professor if you don't know much about sociology. Students who already have advanced knowledge of the subject may not enjoy this class. Often omits terminology and other things and shows problematic material without critique. She's too forgiving to wilfully ignorant students and very often panders to the lowest common denominator.

Gentle and likable professor. I regret not trying in her class as she does go thoroughly in depth with the material. She may call you out at times which may seem embarrassing but if you pay attention and refrain from dozing off, she'll help you understand and you won't have to suffer the tormenting talk of shame.

She is a very fun teacher, keeps class interesting and provides great examples. She is a new teacher at Harper so be patient, she is still learning our policies. Her only area to improve on is her responses to emails, she isn't the best at that-I have no idea what her schedule is like but it shouldn't take several days to receive a response.

Professor Edwards is an awesome teacher! She gives great examples that you can relate to. Makes class interesting & funny! Attendance is not mandatory but she does not share notes with students so you will miss the lecture for that day. I would definitively recommend her. Omg, Monica is amazing at teaching.. She is the perfect teacher for someone who needs time to understand matierial. She does not rush her class at all and makes sure all of her students understand it. Since this is just grading her on her teaching she would get a 10 but if I were grading her on her personality a 2. She's hard on people sometimes.

Very unhappy with her personal life. Judges people. Hard grader. Poor girl can't even get the grades right. The class is out of 400 and she secretly makes it out of a different number. I would NOT recommend her as a NICE teacher. However, she is really good at what she does. Teaching.

LOVE HER! I was always iffy about sociology and all other classes i took were so boring. but she makes class so interesting and I love sociology now and am minoring in it. She makes class really interesting and as long as you take good notes, pay attention, and attend the study session before tests you'll do fine. She's so nice and approchable

She never kept track of attendance, but I can't imagine that you could pass if you don't show up. Class is very interesting, but the tests can be tough. Only two though, and only a paper for the final. It's definitely a doable and interesting A.

I recommend this teacher if you are an auditory learning because she hardly ever writes anything down. She really only talks so if you are a visual learner, you might have a difficult time especially taking notes. There is no tests or quizzes in this course, it is pure writing such as summaries of a chapter, final paper, etc.

Don't be upset with her if she puts you on the spot. You're in college, not jr. high. Her lectures are on blackboard. She does take attendance.

Monica was a fantastic sociology teacher. SHe made the class fun and enjoyable this summer. She was very helpful and always on time. SHe does give alot of test and some hw but if you do well on those you will pass the class. I would take her again bc she is great.

I was in a class of about 100, not a lot of people showed up because class was not mandatory, but you won't pass if you don't go because there are in class activities and she gives a lot of really good info that will help you with the tests. She's funny and smart and always helps students if they ask. Highly recommended.

I quite enjoyed Monica's class. She is very charismatic and makes the class enjoyable. She gives power points as guidelines but you need to attend class to get the full lesson. All the tests are online except the last one. Reading quiz every week and small writing assignments. We also read a reeallllly boring book at the end of the semester

She is an awesome teacher..her lectures are very visual and she makes references that help you better understand the concepts. The textbook is not mandatory..but I still referenced it to help better understand the material. She is also very funny and nice and was way better then my high school sociology teacher. I highly recommend her.

Great teacher! She's very clear about what she wants and gives you tips on how to get the best grade. She's approachable and helpful. It was overall a fun class we watched some tv shows relating to Sociology. There's a couple reading quizzes, in class assignments and 3 tests. The tests are online and aren't bad at all. I didn't even use my textbook

Very easy class, i went into this with zero experience in sociology and dr edwards made everything very clear during lectures, all the exams are online including the optional final that replaces one of your quiz grades if its a better score. 1 final paper which was very easy to write finished it in the first month of the class.

Really awesome teacher, tough but she lets you know what's expected. Her lectures are great but I suggest recording them since note taking if difficult. She says you don't need the text book and I didn't buy it. Just pay attention and study and you should be golden.

Of all the teachers I have had thus far at Harper, Dr. Edwards has engaged me on the class content best. Her lectures are great, and are very insightful. Unlike other teachers she really makes you think, so an individual cannot just bs their way through her class. She is very approachable and will discuss any sociological topic with you.

This was an auditorium class. There was additional reading to the textbook. The exams and writing assignments were not especially difficult, but I put a lot of effort into the class, and I'm glad that I did. Dr. Edwards was very helpful both in class and during office hours.

i've taken a few of her classes. she's not as much of a social pariah as she'd have you believe. almost every student leaves her class thinking she's the bee's knees, including me! opinionated and engaging. never really felt intimidated by intelligence until i met her. smart as a whip. if you have to take soc classes, take hers. recommended.

Really wish I could take more of her classes! The lectures were (almost) always very interesting and she was hilarious. The weekly online quizzes were pretty difficult, but you could take them as many times as you need and being able to retake them before the exams to study was definitely helpful. Not an easy A, but the work was reasonable.

I was quite intimidated by Monica on the first day of her 150 student lecture class. But, she is AMAZING! Her lectures are verbal GOLD. She uses profanity a lot, so if that offends you don't take her class. She is very understanding as long as you come in contact with her if you have problems. Monica is a great sociological mind. Class consists of weekly cycles of reading articles, attending lectures, and writing. There are no exams, just a lot of writing. There is a lot of work, but she is a forgiving grader. This was an ideal balance of effort and learning. She is very flexible with office hours. I wish every class could be like this.

I recommend online, is quicker and easier! Simple tests and minimum work. Most listen to her lecture, if hard to pass the class but not complicated.

Dr. Edwards was great! She's a bit tough but nothing that's impossible. I hated how she couldn't get to know us personally but when your class is over 150 students I can't blame her. She gives a lot of makeup quizzes which is awesome bc she doesn't have to do so. Only thing I disliked is how I purchased the sociology textbook that was never used.

She really made sociology easy to understand! The class was mostly lectures. She does not take attendance, but she randomly does concept reviews at the end of class. You have to write a few sentences about what you learned that day and turn it in on your way out. She is super funny and cool. She answers questions and is super helpful.

Monica is so awesome. I'm not a huge fan of the big picture view she gives, but I agree with everything she says. She lectures EVERY WEEK. Go to class or you seriously won't pass. She's a tough grader, but she'll work with you to get your grade up and give you extra credit.

I haven't read a single word of anything and till passed with an A+ Pay attention to what she says and you will understand the concept of thinking sociologically and you will be able to answer the quiz/test questions correctly. Show up to class and take advantage of any extra credit. Retake quizzes if you have the option. Love u Monica!

this teacher loves teaching sociology, she gets carried away and into a lot of detail. She gives a ton of examples, there's no reason you should be left without understanding after the lecture ! you don't need the book IF you pay attention in class and take notes there is no attendance grade, but the content is CRUCIAL. don't skip and you'll pass

Had a class of about 140 kids and she still knew my name. only needed a 40 percent to keep an A on the final. gives extra credit so it is hard to fail. still learned a lot from her. she does swear a lot, but she is really funny. lectures all class period. she uses the time wisely. I used my book once. She is willing to help, and test are easy!

She is a PhD however so her knowledge of her discipline is advanced and sometimes she can be overwhelming, but she is thorough in her lectures. Monica Edwards is one of my favorite professors. She is kind and funny, and takes care to make herself available to students. The lectures in her class can be heavy because sociological topics can be heavy, but she throws in pictures of her dog in power points to make everyone feel a little happier. I want to take another of her classes for sure.

Sociology class with Monica was awesome. Though her lectures can stretch on and they will occasionally put you to sleep, she genuinely cares about her students. She seems to understand the daily struggles of students by giving us free access to an online textbook.

She's such a chill professor that's relatable. VERY EASY class and i highly recommend her for it! Only 2 tests and 1 final, very easy online quizzes, and random in class assignments that you can BS and still get full credit. She just wants you to try. The only points missing were from the answers i got wrong on the tests, and they're common sense

Her lectures are clear and insightful. You must attend class to take notes. Study guides are mandatory but manageable and tests were open note. Her lectures may be hard to follow at times, but she will reiterate ideas if you ask.

Honestly only showed up to class like once every other week, I did fine. The times i did show up to class, i was on my phone. Great professor, but very lecture heavy. Ended up doing just fine in the class. Study guides can get overwhelming, but compared to the work throughout the semester its nothing.

Her tests are online and are based upon the lectures so come to class. There isn't much work except for a few study guides which are easy points.

She's one of the best professors at Harper. If you attend her lectures and half pay attention, you're guaranteed an A. She'll even record three lectures for you. I skipped a good amount and ended with a 98%. She's really entertaining, and offers a bunch of extra credit opportunities. The quizzes are quotes taken directly out of articles.

Out of the six online classes I've taken Ms Edwards is easily my favorite teacher. She posts two lecture videos a week and a reading or two. Pretty much her only assignments are summaries on these posts and very occasionally a short paper or exam. Her lectures are good and she's very funny, although they are time consuming.

Dr. Monica was a great professor. Her class was very much lecture based, however the lectures were very interesting so that made it easier to pay attention to. She also makes herself very available to all of her students especially for extra credit reasons. I would highly recommend. Easy A as long as you do all the work.

Shes amazing, both as a person and a professor. Very kind and intelligent. Its very hard not to get an A in this class, because she offers lots of extra credit and the homework assignments, which are minimal are also easy as long as you do them all. I just took Edwards for WEB SOC101 during this summer. She was clear on what she expected from the homework assignments, i did forget to organize some of my weekly submissions and didnt deduct points for that. Her lecture audios were time consuming but understandable since it was an 8 week course. I spent 5-7 hours on them. Recommend her for an A.

I have a lot of respect for her. Definitely a teacher who wants to see her students succeed. She made the text book online free because she thinks we deserve that. Kind hearted and hilarious. Also, she is always open to talk to during her office hours. Would take her again:)

probably one of my favorite teachers at harper college. the sociology of sex and gender class had to be one of the most interesting classes, but dr. monica really contributed to it. i felt every class i went to she was just going to drop so much knowledge and inspire me as a human being. truly a great person and a great teacher.

I LOVE Monica. I had her for soc 101 and 120. Shes sooo sweet and you can tell that she really cares about her students and really wants them to do well. Shes also really funny. Her lectures get kinda dry and her notes are kinda vague and confusing but she explains things well to help clarify. She clearly wants her students to succeed.

You will be listening to prerecorded lectures and reading articles with weekly quizzes the entire class. Monica is funny, and I mean funny. Expect to laugh when listening to her lectures, but also expect to be open minded as her teachings are very forthcoming. Make sure to read her email reviews. I would totally take one of her courses again.

She would send us wellness checks, was lenient on deadlines & changed her grading scale. She gives me hope that there are people who love teaching & care for their students!

Dr. Edwards, Is very nice and caring towards her students. She offers office hours all the time for her students. Toward the shift of online classes due to the pandemic, She's aware of her students in need and responses to emails fast!! Her study guides are very easy. The textbook is available online no purchase required

She made the class very interesting even though she lectures the whole time. She talks about relevant topics and relates it back to how it impacts individuals and yourself, makes you think about things with a different aspect. Would 10/10 recommend taking her class!

She is extremely passionate for the over all well being of her students.

I have taken every class Dr. Monica offers and I couldn't be happier. She is one of the best teachers I have ever had hands down. She is a devoted teacher that cares about every student of hers no matter the class size. She is very welcoming, easy to talk to and will help you succeed in her classes. I truly cannot say enough good things about her.

One of my favorite professors so far! She is very kind and understanding. Shes very willing to work with students as long as they express what is going on. Shes very funny and makes time fly by. I loved how respectful she is to everyone and says things bluntly but in a kind way. If I ever can have her as a prof again, Id jump at the chance:)

Despite being online, I really enjoyed having her as a teacher!! The weekly study guide questions and journals may seem like a bit of work but she let us use the study guides during the exams. She is super caring and respectful to her students. Great teacher, very passionate about sociology and makes class interesting!

Best professor ever. The people who have issues with Edwards discussing Marx and Marxism clearly don't know what sociology is. Marx and Marxism IS sociology. You don't have to agree with it. Don't take a sociology class then because she is simply teaching the theories in her field. Just like in every class, you learn theories in the field!

Some people can't handle the fact that the Marxist perspective is in sociology, and Edwards discusses the theories in her field. Marxism itself can be seen as a sociological method. Conflict Theory is a Marxist theory, and Conflict Theory is at the core of what is analyzed and discussed in class and the field of sociology!

I took this class to fill in my gen-ed requirement but she was awesome! Her stuff does get a bit unorganized and the readings are not 100% easy but she is hilarious so it makes up for it.

Dr. Monika Edwards is a great professor. It was very good learning experience. Of course there is no easy way out , more writing and you have to work hard. Her teaching method, lectures and videos are very educational, interesting and informative! I passed this course with grade A :) I would highly recommend her.

Dr. Edwards is amazing! Her lectures are hilarious, relatable, and inspirational. She truly has the best interest at heart for each of her students. She goes above and beyond to help anywhere she can and always makes sure to check in on the mental health of her students. There's a lot of work, but it isn't hard, and she is a easy grader.

I took prof Edwards twice because I loved her teaching style so much. If I could, I'd take her for ALL of my classes. She is very sweet, very understanding and lovely. The way she sets up the course is very easy to understand. She is very accessible outside of class and will give you great feedback. 100% would recommend. I took her for 230 and 120.

Dr. Edwards is one of the best professors I've had at Harper College, her lectures are very entertaining and informative. She is very passionate about what she teaches and cares about the success of her students a lot! The pre-recorded lectures (if you're online only) are sometimes hard to hear, but not too bad. Definitely recommend!

Dr. Monica is with no doubt the best sociology professor at Harper! Only two months into the semester and I've already learned so much from her class. She is super nice and is always interested in hearing her students' thoughts on the lectures. She loves hearing about our personal experiences. I would definitely take her again. She is amazing!

Kindest professor I've probably ever had. She is very understanding and sympathetic. She always makes us laugh too. Very knowledgable in sociology and gender studies!

Her class was so easy to take, the quizzes were just fill in the blanks, she sometimes dropped assignments, and it is such an easy A. She is very easy on her grading, makes class fun, and I highly recommend taking her classes! All you have to is journals, quizzes, perusall, study guides, and menti during class.

Super kind and will understand any personal situations. Is flexible with due dates, open, and will work with you. She knows a lot about what she teaches. The only think I didn't like was the online lectures because they are recordings of her teaching a class which is super hard to hear.

Monica is very laid back and easy to talk to. She claims there's a lot of work but there really isn't. There are 3 exams that are based on her lectures (attend the lectures! it's not mandatory but she gives extra credit towards the end of the semester and the exams and study guides are based on the lectures). She also has weekly quizzes.

Dr. Edwards is an amazing professor. If you're taking this course online, there are only 2 exams (midterm + final). Both have multiple choice questions and are based on the lectures/readings. The quizzes and weekly assignments are easy as well. Very responsive, understanding, and kind teacher. Highly recommend.

I truly loved Dr. Monica's class, she really does a great job. She is super friendly and cool, genuinely cares about her students. Lecture days were a little boring but she tried her best to keep it interesting. I felt the course load was a good amount for the semester. I never felt stressed about getting her assignments done.

One of the best quality online class experiences I have ever had. The content was genuinely engaging each week. She posted her own lecture videos which I really appreciate. She explains concepts so well. She replies fast to emails and is always looking out for the well-being of her students. If you have to take Soc101 I would recommend her!

Dr. Monica is a genius. Very educated in Sociology. Sometimes it was hard to keep up because she is very passionate and intelligent. She's a tough grader, but loves what she teaches.

Professor Edwards is my favorite professor I've had thus far. Her class is very interesting, and she is hilarious. She keeps you engaged. There is a lot of homework, I'd say it's time consuming but not difficult. Her lectures are long, but entertaining. Don't hesitate to take her class! You won't regret it.

Professor Edwards is engaging and funny, though her class can be time-consuming. The quizzes and assignments are manageable, and unstuckstudy was a great study tool. Definitely take her class if you can!

GREAT Prof- Gives ALOTT of Extra Credit opportunities, no late work penalty. She understands you have life outside of school, not like other prof. Easy tests and quizzes. She loves teaching sociology and you can tell. Although lectures might be long since she talks 90% of time but she helps you with anything, either with assignments or life.

She is so sweet, so caring, so helpful, and so kind! I absolutely loved her class and it would've been an easy A, but I barely even did the bare minimum this semester. I regret it tho, but she was very kind & helpful or else I would've had an F! Take her class & do the work :) it's so worth it! Sweetest prof ever❤️ I admire her so much after this!

She was awesome, and the sweetest. She's brilliant and she would offer to make hot coca in class or in her office :) i took family sociology, class was easy, i loved her lectures. taking her again in spring :) but online this time. i recommend in person she's great.

If I could give her every positive tag RMP has in its system and not just 3, I would. Wonderful professor, inspirational and cares deeply for her students, responds *very* quickly to emails even over weekends, etc. Good life/work/school balance and engaging classes that barely feel like lectures. Informative + fun, I HIGHLY recommend her!
