Not a good teacher at all.
not a good teacher, tests are hard and confussing
Not Recommended. Should not be a professor.
I thought she explained things very well, she was a great teacher. The material was easy to understand if you went to class on a regular basis and not many people did.
Very heavy latin accent- hard to communicate with. Everything is right from the book. If you read you will pass.
She does not teach well. She gives you notes on over heads but that is not what ends up on the exams. Then if you try to make an appointment w/ her she won't show up. Her English is not very good.
Great teacher! She presents the material clearly and sometimes she is even funny. If you need to take macro, I recommend taking her class. Attend class, pay attention and you will pass.
She explains well the material. I liked her class.
She is knowledgeable and a nice lady.
Teaches the material well. Class includes three tests with online quizzes that are extremely easy. Likes to teach.
Tests are very difficult and confusing. I found it impossible to get higher than a C on all three of her tests and I consider myself to be a good student.
i didnt like the way she teach's.. she is very confusing and very hard to understand, because of her heavy accent. she also tends to make examples that have nothing to do with what she's teaching
Horrible teacher, do not recommend!
Overall the class was easy. There is a language barrier though. She is very knowledgable on the subject and sometimes forget that we are students not economists!
Good teacher.
A very knowledgable economist and really tries to get the information across to students. Unfortunatly she seems unable to confine her tests to the material covered and goes out of her way to come up with arcane questions with 5 vague answers to choose from. If you take her class study hard and cross your fingers. I got a B+ by the skin of my teeth
I had her for Micro...she was so hard. Very difficult and confusing exams. Grades were based on exams, so if you fail those, you fail the class.
She explains well the material. The tests are a little bit difficult so be prepared.
I took her for Micro. I thought we was excellent. Micro is a very hard class so compared to my Macro teacher she explained everything clearly. She even gave us an option to not take the final at the end of the semester if we were happy with our grade. I pulled a B in her class with little effort. Only downfall is she only gives letter grades.
Her lectures were interesting, but her problem is that she loves graphs and goes through them quickly expecting you to understand them. Tests were very hard, but I enjoyed the class.
Her fascination with Graphs will drive you crazy!! Study gives great notes so if you take good notes, you'll be fine.
absolutely horrible teacher! the tests are extremely difficult and hard to understand. she is a fanatic on graphs and she isnt very helpful at all. she is not willing to help students out with their grades. so if possible try to avoid taking this teacher for macro.
I disagree. She explains things well. You just need to study!!!
You have four exams, which are primarily multiple choice except you have three questions that come from additional reading. You also must complete several online quizes, but those are all very easy. She is nice and helpful, but the material is slightly complicated. Just take down her notes and you will do fine.
Good teacher. If you can handle her slight accent I would recommend her to anyone. You have to read the chapters, but if you attend all classes there should be no reason for you not to pass with a "B"
Awesome teacher!!!!!!!!!!!!!
VRY EFFECTIVE. HAS A SLIGHT ACCENT BUT NOT BAD ENOUGH TO AFFECT HER TEACHING.
TAKE THIS TEACHER!
One of the worst teachers I ever had
I recommend this teacher.
Explains EVERYTHING; class is easy as long as you attend and do the homework.
Macro Economics can be one of the most difficult subjects. Prof Escaleras has a gift to make this subject very interesting and understandable. I wish I could take every course with her.
Great teacher. Posts notes online and explains them in class. Class is difficult but she does everything to help you get a good grade.
Excellent teacher. Easy on the eyes...
Good professor. Taught material clearly, used good examples, was forgiving with grades. Definitely recommend taking her class.
Easy Easy Class, just read the book and the reading materials and you will find this class to be very easy. I had almost a 98% grade and i didnt really study, just paid attention in class and read the book.
I found this class to be very difficult. Lectures were fast-paced and didn't make sense if you didn't already understand what she was talking about. I had a hard time understanding her, but it was partly due to the large echoing classroom. You definitely have to understand and apply the topics, it's not just a read and recite type of class.
I very good professor. She is very fair. She covers the material that is going to be on the test. To get a good grade you should attend class because some of the stuff is not in the book. The only complaint is that she has you take a lot of notes.
She is an awesome teacher. To do well on test you must go to lecture she explains everything and she gives extra cresit sometimes if attend to class. Test reviews help A LOT with exams. Only three exams... final is NOT comprehensive. Very clear with information. I would Definitelytake her again!
Great Class. I never went to class and still earned a B. If u read the book you'll be str8.
Great teacher..you go to class..you pay attention..you get an A..easy as that! I didn't glance at the book more than twice.
Go to class, take notes, and read assignments your guarateed at least a B. EXCELLENT PROFESSOR!!
Prof. Escaleras uses the book, PP slides and examples all equally. She doesn't move on unless everyone understands the concepts. Her tests are well balanced. She goes over everything in class, not just a relative topic that she expects you to apply to everything else. One of the best at FAU.
She is a good professor and nice! She explains the material well and her exams are fair. Make sure you attend the lectures so that you will do well on the exams. Reading the textbook is good too!
Very straightforward class, take notes, study with the powerpoints, and theres no reason you cant get a B on the test. Intermediate class, she gives notes a little too fast otherwise everythings good, i reccomend taking this class with her you can at least walk out with a B with some effort.
She gets the concept of economics across clearly if you stay focused ie. attending class, reading book, doing homework. otherwise, this class will be a struggle.
AWESOME!! Took her for 2 classes and passed with an A with ease. Go to class and do your work!!
She made the class pretty easy. She tries her best to make her students to understand the concepts. She will prepare you for her exams, b/c she does review in class. I recommend to take her. Go to lectures and reviews, do the homework, & study. It's that easy!
she is an ok teacher but her lectures are too long for no reason and she makes things harder than they really are, its basically common sense. she does put up reviews but u have to go to class for the answers. my opinion, take someone else. she isnt that great.
This teacher is great. Her lectures are perfectly clear. She is very fair and WILL NOT put questions on the test that she did not lecture. She gives study guides that basically have 90% of questions on the test. My advice is to attend class on review day, study the study guide and briefly review powerpoint slides before test. Youll ace it easily.
She is an amazing professor, explains the material very clearly, her powerpoint lectures are very precise. She gives online homework before every exam which is good review. Also prepares a study guide that she goes over in class and uses some of the questions on exams.Easy to get an A! TAKE HER!
took her for intermediate macro over the summer and thought she was very good. unfortunately the course was only 6 weeks long and we didnt get through a ton of stuff that was on the syllabus.her tests are fair and straight forward.there IS math involved (simple algebra, substitutions, formulas) unlike easy principles. i didnt need the text either
Seriously one of the best professors I have taken. Show up to class and study and you will get an A. Her notes are clear and the material wasn't too mind boggling. So sad I couldn't take her for intermediate macro. Only 4 tests and all straight forward.
I highly recommend this professor. Her course is very straightforward. Read the chapters, take weekly homework quizzes, and a few exams. Study the PowerPoint and homework questions and you'll do fine on the exams. Great professor!
Very clear and concise with her expectations of the course. Don't need the textbook, attendance isnt graded, but EVERYTHING is taught in class. Dont miss class if you wanna pass. Material is a little difficult, but she makes everything clear. 9/10 would recommend.
Phenomenal teacher that really cares about how well her students understand the material and can explain concepts perfectly. What she goes over in class WILL be on your exam! So attendance is NOT mandatory but I would highly recommend attending. She is an excellent professor and I would recommend her to anyone.
she is a horrible professor. yes she has an accent but that wasn't the issue. she was always late to class. Very confusing, she wouldn't explain the material. she only read from powerpoints. Her Teacher Assistant was a better professor than her and that's just sad. DO NOT TAKE HER!!!!
Great teacher!!!!
She's a great professor. I like the way she taught the course. Print the PP and attend class. I highly recommend you to attend class because she'll go over problems that will be on the exam. Don't buy the textbook!
She is a great professor! Take macro with her! Your only grade is 4 tests, but she gives extra credit on them sometimes. She posts parts of the lecture notes but you have to go to class to fill in the blanks. She explains examples in class and it always very helpful. Best professor I've had at FAU! I wish she would teach micro too
She is really good ! If you love economics, take this professor, she is really passionate about the field. She prides herself in teaching her students the intuition behind every topic rather than the just the right answer. Would take again !
The professor didn't add much to the text or have extra learning material. Everything progressed as described, but you need to do the reading. Overall, fairly straightforward online course.
Great teacher!! She was very straight forward with everything. The lectures where very simple and clear. She mostly reads everything out of a power point but also does problems on the board throughout the lecture. The review for the exams are very helpful and she's willing to answer any questions. Gives very useful extra credit.
Very interesting class, very enjoyable, kind professor, great class to learn and apply to real life. Attend the reviews before exams and you will pass easily. Attendance is not mandatory, but I would highly suggest it.
AMAZING PROFESSOR! Took her sophomore year for Macro and now senior year for Advanced Macro. She explains everything in such a way that makes it easy to Ace her exams. DONT BUY THE BOOK! Her ppt slides are more than enough for review. Do homework and show up to class! I've never rated a professor before but she was worthy. TAKE HER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you want to learn Economics, she is the Professor to take. You can definitely receive an A as long as you work for it and STUDY. Do all the assigned homework, and attend class so you can understand the material. Print out her PP notes. Her lectures are great, and she's very good at engaging students in the subject. You won't regret taking her.
EXAMS ONLY, NO QUIZZES GOOD EXAM REVIEWS (GREAT HELP FOR EXAMS) ONLINE HOMEWORK (NOT OVERWHELMING) EACH VERY BRIEF- 10 QUESTIONS EA. CLEAR GRADING CRITERIA SHOW UP! ONCE YOU UNDERSTAND YOU WILL PASS. HER EXAMS ARE VERY CONCEPTUAL, COMMON SENSE ALONE WILL FAIL YOU. YOU NEED TO UNDERSTAND THE CONCEPTS! KNOW YOUR CONCEPTS, GRAPHS AND FORMULAS
Very easy class. Received an A. Tests are easy, mostly common sense. If you study a bit and review the textbook and notes, it is honestly an easy A. There is minimal homework so the class doesn't take much of your time.
Escaleras is very clear about what is going to be on her exams. She has an impressive background in economics and knows the material. If you don't study, you will not pass. Print out the powerpoints and take really good notes. She also gives opportunities for extra credit. All you have to do is show up to class when the speaker is attending.
She makes the material easy to understand and offers plenty of extra credit. Usually let us out early but still covered everything. Gives study guides and sample exams before each exam. Actual exam questions come from the samples and online homework. Go to class for notes, do the homework and practice tests, you'll pass.
attendance isn't mandatory but you wont pass if you don't go to class, she only posts some parts of her power point online and the parts you need she only goes over in class. she does not take late work what so ever. do the homework it does count towards your final grade. her exams aren't hard you just need to understand how macroeconomics work
Attendance isn't compulsory however you wont pass in the event that you don't go to class, she just posts a few sections of her energy point on the web and the parts you require she just goes over in class. she doesn't take late work what so ever. do the homework it counts towards your last grade. her exams aren't hard you simply need to see how.
im really glad i took her and i learned a lot from this class. Sit in the front and you'll really understand well! do not sit in the back! Attendance isnt mandatory but she gives notes with blanks you need to fill in so you cant really miss. she does Extra credit! not a lot of hw. the reviews for the test are amazing and practice tests. TAKE HER!
I'm a science major and I took this class as an elective. Definitely one of the easiest classes I've ever taken at FAU. Just show up and take notes on your laptop or notebook. That's it. Even if you don't do well on tests there's a decent amount of extra credit that you get just for showing up when there's a guest speaker.
This teacher is the best. she makes the class easy by giving practice tests and she goes over them in class and gives you the answers so you can review. the exams are literally the practice tests and the homework. homework is short and easy. gives extra credit for going to guest speakers. Easy A, just show up and fill in the power points.
She is an amazing professor. She is very passionate about economics and she really cares about her students. The tests are very straight forward if you attend class and do her exam reviews, about 90% of the questions come from the sample questions.
great professor! extra credit. easy exams and homework. this is not a class you have to spend much time on. 10/10 would recommend
Terrible Professor, she doesn't budge for anything. DO NOT TAKE!!!
Pretty basic class. She groups homework together for when its due. Lots of lectures but her exam questions come from the sample questions. She gives all the notes in class so while attendance isnt mandatory, you kinda need to attend for the notes.
The only assignments are 4 tests and homework (one multiple choice test with 10 questions for each chapter.) Attendance is not mandatory but if you want to fill out the in class power point you have to go. She gives extra credit and the exams are 50% practice tests, 30% homework and 20% new questions. Easy class.
She gave 4 tests and hw assignments due the prior week of the tests. Study the practice questions she gives you and the hw questions. If you truly pay attention in class and A is doable. She is really nice too because I missed my final and she let me make it up the following day lol. She was a life saver.
Horrible professor, there are only 5 grades in the class so if you mess up on one Exam you will have an extremely hard time getting an A or B. Whatever you do, do not take this professor.
Pretty straightforward class. Four tests and homework assignments. A couple of opportunities to earn extra credit which help a lot. Practice exams were helpful and mirrored the actual tests (which were multiple choice). Also related a lot of topics to what's going on in the world today. Attendance isn't mandatory but helps if you go. Would retake.
The professor is very organized and is very straightforward. She gives opportunities for extra credit as well. She does go a little bit faster than you would like and her tests are even harder if you dont study for them. Her lectures are also pretty boring.
Fully online, 1 open book quiz per week, 4 exams (Honorlock), very straight forward professor. every week there is a video and a PowerPoint lecture. Quiz answers are all inside the PowerPoint. Video is for more in-depth look at chapter. Exams are similar to quizzes. Study guide is given out before the test. EZ A IF YOU STUDY AND DO QUIZZES IMO
As long as you keep up with assigned reading, getting an A is very possible. I faltered a bit (all on me) and ended up dropping to a B. Quizzes and tests are NOT insanely difficult if you read and study.
I email the professor and I've never gotten a respond, I felt as if I was on my own. However she gives weekly quizzes which was easy and alot of extra credit. I believe there was a total of 4 exam which was not very easy. Does require reading the book and power point notes to pass the exams. She's a fair professor, I just didn't like the subject.
Escaleras was a pretty good professor. I took this class online over the summer and did not find it too challenging to ace. 4 tests all using honorlock, allowed an index card for formulas on some tests, but other than that it was all closed book. Weekly homework quizzes that boost your grade if you actually do them. Long time to answer emails.
I took this class online fall 2019. I would have rather taken a video stream class. I used posted lectures and videos of Chang's(other professor) old overviews of topics. Lectures don't go into much detail but have most the information you need. Tests aren't extremely hard, but must study a lot of topics. Most homework can be looked up, easy HW.
If you show effort then she will help you. Raised me 2 points on an exam that brought my grade up a letter grade.
I took this class in Spring 2020. She is the best Macroeconomics teacher, you need the online textbook in order to do homework on launchpad. Homework help is on on socratic app. She gives ALOT of extra credit, especially if you go to certain on campus events or watch extra videos in homework website. She gives exam sample questions!! best teacher!!
Dont take this professors class online. She just posts the lectures and doesnt actually go over them. Grade is 4 exams and homework. She also doesnt post your grade so youll never know what grade you have in the class.
Professor Escaleras knows a lot about macroeconomics. She is very organized and provided additional information, videos, etc. However, her lectures were very tedious and not easy to follow. She assumed everyone understood, but about half of the students quit. We had an online book with exercises which helped but her exams were extremely difficult.
This professor's grading style is so heavy!!! Homework is 25%, and each of the three exams you take are also each 25%. If you struggle at all with this course, one bad exam and your grade is shot. Do not take this professor unless you're fine with your final grade riding on 25% weighted exams.
Nothing really special about this class. She explains everything pretty well in the lectures, but they come straight from the book so it is not hard to teach yourself material you missed. Tests require a little bit of studying, but are generally very easy. Short homework assignment for every chapter. Lectures are Boring.
Her lectures are very simple and she basically reads the slides while explaining a few things more clearly. It was a very straightforward class however the exams were tough if you didn't have a solid understanding of the concepts since a lot of the questions were never discussed before. She does give an extra credit opportunity for each chapter tho
4 tests, 12 HW assignments with 15 extra credit points, all weighed the same, which can be a good or bad thing. I studied for her tests by watching the review lectures hours before the actual exam and I did fine. If you give yourself enough time to study you should get an A in the class.
Gives 1 hw assignment per week and its like 10-12 questions due at the end of the week. Tests and homework all weighed the same so if you did bad on one test another one can help boost. She also gives extra credit every week along with the hw assignment. Easy class and easy to understand lectures.
She is very nice but you have to do very well on the exams in order to pass. There is for exams each worth 20% of your grade. The other 20% is homework which is very easy it is on an online platform that was around $100. She does give extra credit opportunities as well.
Professor Escaleras is an amazing teacher her lessons are recorded to watch at any time. She gives exam reviews with questions that replicate the exam. If you don't do good on an exam she is always available to meet with you through zoom or Webex to go over it. She is patient, caring, very organized, and cares about her students.
The hardest class I have taken. Lockdown browser exams. Homeworks do not prepare you for exams at all. It is almost impossible to study for the exams because everything you would study is completely different material from the exam.
Easy class. Extra credit every week with HW. 4 exams (final isn't cumulative) and drops the two lowest HW grades. Overall good professor.
Take eric chaing. This professor would not help with any forgiveness. If you do not do well on every single exam you WILL NOT pass. Exams are 80% of your grade; there are 4. Homework was very easy though and minimal. If you are not a good exam taker you will not pass.
DO NOT TAKE HER. The exams are weighted very high.
Do not take this professor, all tests are weighted heavily. No extra credit.
Took her for Macro and she is the best. Tests are video taped but if you study you will be fine. She gives really good reviews for exams but make sure you do the HW! It is super important for your grade. I would take her again and again. During reviews she goes over everything
Took this course with her she's a decent professor just study her powerpoint slides from lectures and do the hw assignments. Also she does provide good exam reviews that match her test by the way never read the book and got a B in her class. Don't let the negative reviews scare you i prefer her teaching style over Chiang.
Her lectures were based off a ppt. Four exams and one hw and extra credit assignment for each chapter. Exams were easy imo. She explained things clearly and didn't go too fast. If you attend class and study, you should be able to pass the class even if exams are weighted heavily.
She's really kind and caring! I enjoyed her lectures, she asks for just a little bit of your time, then let's us go early:) Does reviews before each test with practice questions almost word for word on the test. Plenty of extra credit! Tests are straightforward, only thing is make sure you study/review for them!
Excellent prof! Lectures are concise & to the point. Often finishes before allocated lecture time. Everything you need is found on PPT. 4 tests & homework all worth 20%/each. Up to 15% easy extra credit offered for homework (3% increase to your grade). Tests cover mostly simple math calculation problems, lockdown browser, but formulas are allowed.
Professor Escaleras is very nice; she made Macroeconomics so simple for me to learn. I would definitely recommend it. You have until the class before the exam to turn in all of the homework, but I recommend that you do it as she finishes each chapter. It helps you get a higher grade on the homework.
Macro is not a very hard course; we used Professor Chiang's book, so there is not really anything to worry about; she is a somewhat nice teacher and fairly decent at her job; she can be a little bit rude and frosty at times, but some be it, pretty average prof.
One of the best professors I have had. She is really good at explaining macroeconomics in a way that makes it interesting and clear for students. Only down side is the tests count for a lot of the grade so it is crucial that you do well on them.
This professor is very caring and makes lectures fun and interesting. This class is so test heavy that it consist on 4 exams and a little bit of homework. Barely any extra credit and test are hard. Don't recommend taking if you are trying to get a good grade and an easy teacher. Take someone with more extra credit opportunities and less test heavy!
I took an honors version of this class in high school and it was definitely much easier here with Professor Escaleras. The class is test heavy but the material on the tests is very straight forward and all of the exams are online. The homework is due before each exam so you have around 3 weeks each time to do it and it doesn't take long at all.
Professor Escaleras makes macro engaging with clear lectures. While exams heavily impact the grade, consistent attendance, studying, and utilizing resources like unstuck study can lead to success. Overall, a rewarding experience for students willing to put in the work.
This class is def test heavy and it consist of 4 exams with lockdown browser + webcam but you can do them from your house. Only a little bit of homework and barely any extra credit. The tests are pretty hard and not open book but she gives formulas we can use on some of the exams.
