Very easy I mean it's math 101. The class meets just when there is a test and all the homework is done online along with online quizzes.. The easiest class ever!
This class was of course easy because it's Math101. It was very convenient considering it was online and you only met when there was a test. She always offered assistance if we wanted to stop by her office. I recommend this class for an easy A

The online tutorial and book were incomplete and Monica was clueless to this and very detached. Most who find this class easy are those who got screwed by the math entrance exam, which has content WAY more advanced that anything covered in this class.
Detached and not helpful. More a supervisor than a teacher. She hadn't the faintest clue that the online tutorial the woeful book is built around was incomplete.

This is where you go if you botch the math placement test. The online material is much easier than the trick questions on the exams. Monica seems more interested in being a webmaster than a teacher, so look elsewhere if you need help with anything.

Bascially an online class. Meet twice a month for a simple test. You have to teach ALL the material to yourself; online tutorial is confusing. Easy class but online work is mindnumbingly boring.
The class was really easy, the teacher was nice. She was clear with what she would test and she is clear in what she teaches.

She isn't really a "teacher" just someone you see when you take the tests every few weeks. She is usually available when you need help. But it sucks because all of your work is online and you have to teach EVERYTHING yourself. I thought the class was horrible. =( ughh

This lady is so nice! She explains the material in such detail and pretty much tells you what is going to be on the test. If you go to class everyday and listen then the tests are very easy. She's a fair person and very organized. She takes a lot of pride into teaching and I would take any of her classes if I were you.

Really nice teacher, keeps statistics as interesting as it can be, gives study guides for the test which has problems identical to homework. Really easy if you go to class.
She was very nice and helpful. If you can, take her class because her tests are easy and she tells you when the homework quizes are due.

I loved her. She makes calc really easy. Very clear and fair grading. Go to class and pass. In-class drills in place for homework bring your grade up a ton. Shes nice, approachable and makes math worth while.
If you're taking 163A get in her class. I failed this class the first time around (see Lopez). When I took it with her I got an A. I left my first calculus class still not having a clue what calculus is, after her class I actually understand it really well. Finding a good math professor is incredibly difficult. This is definitely one of the best.
This is a wonderful class, and she is a great professor! She makes everything crystal clear, and her tests are completely fair. Attendance isn't mandatory, and half of the time, you don't have to go to do well on the tests. She is super nice, and she is always willing to help her students. I will try to get her for my math classes in the future!
Okay so Math 102 isn't hard to begin with, but somehow she makes it so easy. There is no way anyone should get below an A-, I mean she practically feeds you bonus points. She is a great professor and I recommend her for any class, even those crazy calculus ones. Attendance is kind of mandatory, yeah.

only went to this class 2 or 3 times other than exam days and 1st day of class. she tells you on 1st day you dont need to come. if youre an active learner or need help from the teacher then go to class. the book is a software you put on your computer. not too bad considering youre told you dont have to show up
Monica is a very good professor. She gives tons of examples in class and gives review sheets for the tests. She is one of the nicest math teachers I have had and she is willing to help you outside of class if you need it. Drops the lowest quiz score at the end of the quarter. Also, usually never keeps you the full hour of class.
Very good professor. She gives simple explanations & lots of examples. Gives homework every night, but goes over the next class. Very helpful & open to questions.
easy class we have an online book that doesn't work on macs but the homeworks easy and there is extra credit.
The best math teacher I have ever had. She is explaining material crystally clear and always go over h/w problems. She uses some of the h/w problems on the test - so DO IT! There were a couple of easy class drills that are 15% of your grade. So be in class every day if you want get all of 15% on your drills. HIGHLY recommend Dr Hilverding!!!
I thought it was really easy, I mean its the same math you did in middle school. She gives you a ton of extra credit and you dont really ever have to go to class, I only went for exams and I got a A, and math is my worst subject.
The book is software program and you have to buy a $50 access code to use the software. Attendance is not mandatory but will help your final grade. It's not as easy as you think it would be. Extra credit assignments really helped at the end of the quarter.
Easy A. Never went to class and aced it with no problem. As long as you know how to use the software which is pretty EASY then you will be fine. I don't however like her as a teacher. Class was pointless
Monica's class is pretty easy, especially if you are bad at math. Homework is online due every night. Attendance is not mandatory, but i recommend going because she is a better teacher than the computer program.

She was really nice, I just did not like the explanation methods. Her teaching was very similar to the software, and was not clear. I wish that they would explain WHY methods work or don't, not just do this and do that. I literally have learned have of this before but I was confused when we got to the sections. Bonus work is excellent!
She is VERY helpful and such a nice lady! I hate math, and I actually enjoyed going to class. She makes things really simple, and her test reviews are pretty much the exact same thing as the actual test. I highly recommend taking her!! It is a pretty easy class.
I am the first person to tell you I hate math. I'm also VERY bad at it. Monica did nothing so spectacular as to change this about me, but she was able to make math slightly more bearable. The class lectures helped to explain things, and as long as homework was completed it was very, VERY hard to fail or get lower than a C. I hardly tried for my C+
She is the absolute best math teacher at OU she is very clear in her lectures and she does many helpful examples, most of the time you can get your homework done in class and she helps you go through it. Overall if you have the opportunity to have her as a teacher, take it!
So incredibly rude. Has no understanding for her students. Teaches the bare minimum level in class and tests are at a much harder level. Not personable at all for college students. Would be a better teacher as a elementary teacher.

She is an awesome teacher. She is always prepared for class and give plenty examples which are very helpful. Purchasing the book is a must. I really enjoyed having her as a teacher, I would really like to take her again if I am given the option. Her tests are pretty close to the review class sessions. Definitely go to class before exams.
Such a good teach. Cares about how you do in class and her exams are not very hard at all if you know the material somewhat well. She makes math willing to sit through and thats a lot coming from me.
She was nice and was good at explaining things and lots of extra credit but when it came to the exams she would take off whole points for the smallest mistakes and worded it weirdly which made me over think the questions which was not necessary at ALL and costs me points!
The content is easy as long as you can change the way you think of math. Her examples and drawings are bad and she is not sure of herself, so she often makes mistakes. Test grading is easy and you know exactly what to expect.
Monica was the best math teacher I've ever had. if you go to class, do your homework and listen when she gives examples you will have an A. she's a very nice lady and i would take from her again if i could.
Monica is a wonderful math teacher. She gives you a ton of examples and gives you review problems before each exam that you should totally do because they are worth EXTRA CREDIT and they are good to use to practice the material. I for one am terrible when it comes to math but when I was taking her class I felt like I finally understood everything.
Hilverding is rude & talks down to the class. She assigns daily homework, half of which isn't discussed in class. During her lectures, she goes super fast, so if you don't understand something you're out of luck! If you want to talk to her out of class, be prepared for an unfriendly interaction. Exams are straightforward, but she's a harsh grader.
She is not personable in any way, and sometimes even rude. For students that struggle with math it's impossible to understand her methods. She takes off points for ridiculous mistakes, especially on activities. If you're good at math, you'll be fine in this class. If you're not, be prepared to get a tutor.
Monica is an okay professor. If you skip the lectures, you most likely won't pass. All of her homework assignments are on WebAssign and if you try to email her a question, she won't respond. She gives extra credit before every exam.
Monica is a good professor, she uses the textbook problems in class so you won't really use your book unless you yourself want to. She gives a lot of homework, however, if you take good notes you should be fine. Good luck!!

One of the best math professors I have ever had. I was super nervous because math is not my strong suit but I go to office hours regularly and am in class every day and I have not had any issues. Highly reccomend Professor Hilverding.
Great professor. Makes math easy to understand and will explain a topic until you understand it. A few tests, but they're easy if you show up to class.
Hilverding was a good teacher. She was a little mono tone in her lectures but that did not affect communicating what needed to be taught. I took her in a large lecture with 100+ students so it was a little less engaging, nor did she notice if anyone was gone. She did sometimes take attendance at random and gave extra credit for those who were there
Professor Hilverding was a good math teacher. She was very good at giving us good lessons, and was very descriptive. As a person who is terrible at math I can say it is easy to understand what is going on. You need to by an access code for WebAssign homework, but I didn't use the hard copy of the textbook. I strongly suggest Hilverding.
She is very knowledgeable of the subject but sometimes seems annoyed when you ask questions because she expects you to know it as well as her. She randomly does homework quizzes and teaches new material each day so I do not advise skipping class, all of the homework, class work, and review problems are in the book so you will need to purchase it
She is a terrible teacher. She is very rude and her methods are hard to understand since she doesn't explain half of it. If you ask questions she seems annoyed. She expects you to know the math as well as she does. Her homework is things she didnt even explain how to do. Terrible teacher.
She explains material well and her class course is easy to follow. She can sometimes be rude when approaching her or answering students questions during class, but to be fair people asked some dumb questions this semester. Her exams are fairly easy if you study. If you skip the class too often you will not do well!
class was pretty basic with hilverding. she wasn't awful but i wouldn't take her again. she's super nice if you need help. only buy the access code if you can for D005 at least. i never opens my textbook only the access code. a lot of homework
Mrs. Hilverding is a great prof!!! I personally found this course very easy with the exception of a few problems here and there. I never did very well in any math class in high school but I found myself remembering how to do many problems before she started them. I love how the next homework assignment is available so I can get it done ahead. Great
Not a great professor but also not horrible. Her lectures are boring and even if you finish notes early she rarely will let class out early. She will find more work for you to do. She can come off as rude and when someone asks her a question its almost like she gets annoyed. Her tests aren't that hard as long as you look over the notes.
Class is easy to start but toward the end gets hard. She gives a lot of homework but tests make up for the majority of your grade, which sucks because she is a very tough grader. Lecture is basically her just doing math problems for you to copy down. Overall shes nice but get a tutor if you can.
I liked Professor Hilverding. I took her class for 1101 and then again for 1102. She explains things clearly and will elaborate if somebody asks. Make sure you pay attention and show up to class. Activities count for a grade and you don't know when they will be, also she will call on different people throughout the class to answer questions.
She is rude, cold and hard to approach in person. After rona, all classes are online and the shift was not easy for me. laptop broke and she refused to give me any mercy. She did a bad job of staying in touch with the class and didn't make us aware when she posted new homework or assignments. I tried to reach out to her, but she just insulted me.
Monica is hard to approach and not a good teacher. Doesn't care about students and doesn't want you to do good.
WORST PROFESSOR I'VE EVER HAD. She's rude, doesn't answer questions you ask at all and makes you feel like an IDIOT because you even thought about asking that. Made me feel the stupidest person and her teaching method is awful. She doesn't actually teach math like you should. I would never take her class again and never recommend taking her class.
I barley got credit for this class. Im a senior and to this day this is the only class i got a C in. The content isnt terribly hard but shes very dry and its hard to pay attention during class. If you have a question she doesnt help you and will at times get irritated with your questions. Not a good professor
Prof Hilverding was okay. Never really interacted with her, and all the work was online with no real instruction other than posted videos. I guess she's alright for developmental/intro-levels. Other than that, I don't have enough information for a comprehensive rating.
Listen, I'm terrible at math (hence why it was a developmental course). She pretty much lectures for an hour, and it is a little dry. However, I ended up with the grade I did because I came to class, copied literally every math problem she did, and studied my butt off for the exams. I don't feel like I had to do anything special in order to pass.
I had Hilverding online for MATH1200, and honestly it was one of best math courses I've taken. Clear lectures based from the textbook. If you miss a class, just look through that section. The downside was the homework was long (1-2 hrs, but some lessons took me 3-5. It's based on understanding), but you have all week to work on it. Overall 9/10.
I love Professor Hilverding. I have never been great at math, but she had a different and much more understandable way of explaining math to me! Exams are fair and resemble the practice exam she gives out before each test. Except to spend at least 5 hours on homework a week (which comes with just about any math class).
I thought Professor Hilverding was a good instructor and I would definitely take a course with her again. She explains everything clearly even though I do agree that her lectures are a bit dry. We had homework assigned after every lecture and I believe it was through Cengage. If you pay attention and take good notes you'll do fine.
My worst class. She was never available to reach for any questions, and was not clear on grading criteria.
This class is actually taught by a TA and she uploads lectures to be watched outside of class. My TA was excellent and I didn't need her videos, but I hesitate to give Hilverding a great rating, because it was all my TA. Had I been stuck with a TA that phoned it in this would be a whole other story.
She doesn't explain well at all and it is very obvious she picks favorites.
Good overall; Lots of group projects and not always the best explanations. Assignment sheets are normally clear and course load is light.
Never saw the actual professor only ever saw my TA which was very unpleasant, always showed up late, and never went over the information we were actually working on in ALEKS. There is so much work involved in this course, and it took up so much of my time. You are also not able to use a calculator.
Monica taught my MATH1060 class, which was the "literacy of math equations". She points out a lot of things that are wrong in assignments and presentations. With this, she is difficult to impress. She responds to emails passive aggressively. Attendance is very important to her and she makes everyone answer questions during class.
I hesitate to rate her because I never actually saw her. The class was taught by a TA, who just repeated everything in videos she had posted on BB. Everything was in Aleks, so while the criteria was clear, it was tough. Expect to spend hours on Aleks every week, and just hope you get a good TA. SI is offered; definitely go.
This class is heavily reliant on test grades, not much else for you to be graded for. You cant do problems a different way than she does or you will get a 0/50.
Math1200 is a very challenging course. I spent 4-8 hours a day doing ALEKS. The tests are super hard and are 70% of your grade. It was hard, BUT Monica always responded to emails and always wanted to help all students. The class is intense but I learned so much and feel more confident in math as a subject. Get ready to work, use SI it saved my life
i never actually met professor hilverding but i was taught by a ta who just repeated what her recorded lectures already say.
Overall was good, can be confusing at times with explanations. Nothing will be on a test that wasn't on the study guide. Grades hard on tests for drawings and explanations. Homework was not graded so the only grades in gradebook were like ten class activities and 3 tests.
We only saw Monica once at the beginning of the semester and the rest of the time she just did lecture videos through black board for us. Her lectures were okay just kind of dry and she was sometimes confusing to understand. If you want to do good in this class, take the practice tests over and over again!
I'm currently enrolled in this professors class she's teaching around one class but is running 4/5 My TA doesn't speak fluent english and is difficult to understand, and almost all of the students in class have tried switching but weren't able to It also doesn't help that the in class lectures are always about the topics we were already graded on.
Never have seen her in person, teaches through masters degree students and long, grueling video lectures that are expected to be watched on top of mountains of homework. Topics are sped through quickly, learned half of what I needed through by teaching myself or going to SI instruction.
Currently enrolled in MATH1200 for the Fall semester. I have never seen or met Professor Hilverding one time since the beginning of the semester as everything is taught by a TA. Attendance is mandatory and graded but means nothing when your TA just repeats everything the lecture videos already state. Be prepared for a lot of self-teaching.
I literally never met the actual professor. I don't even know what this woman looks like. It is taught by a TA who is equally as awful. Neither of them could be reached by email, it was rare to get a response from them.This class is completely on ALEKS it could easily be an inline course which I probably would have succeeded if it was.
i just think its absolutely funny that we had to show up to every class for credit. meanwhile, we have never seen prof. hilverding. i could not tell you what she looks like. put me in a room with her and i couldnt pick her out. her "lecture" videos were poor quality. sam is nice tho. very funny guy.
I never saw Professor Hiverding, nor did I need to watch any of her lecture videos. This is a high school-level course taught by mostly foreign TAs. You can work at your own pace but the assignments are just online ALEKS modules. Should be an online course.
Never once met Monica. The class was taught by the TA who usually just sat there as we did our online assignments. There is no reason that this class should be in person and it is especially not necessary to go to every class for credit. Between her videos online, and the all online assignment format, this class needs to be from home. Lots of work.
Everything was on ALEKS which I personally do not really like but her practice exams were almost the exact same as the exams just with different numbers so you always know what to expect. The professor calls names to participate in class sometimes and she always answers any questions without making you feel bad for asking them.
Overall, this class is difficult and it does depend on your TA. You have a fairly easy worksheet due on Tuesdays, a math module due on Wednesdays and Sundays, and three exams followed up by a final. The material is difficult so if you're not a math person... prepare to really lock in. I had a great TA so I would say this class falls on that.
Monica Hilverding is one of the WORST professors I have ever encountered. I missed an exam due to being in the hospital, and I emailed her the next day, and she took over a week to respond to me, at which point she told me that it had been too long and I wouldn't be allowed to make up the exam, and now I have to take the class again.
if you have to take her for math 1200, don't do it. she has a ta teach the class and mine had a heavy accent. also there was barely any teaching going on in the classroom she would just do practice problems and not actually teach you how to do it and attendance was apart of the grade and it shouldn't be because its honestly easier to teach urself
While this class was pretty easy, you never meet Monica. She hires a bunch of TAs, who usually have pretty heavy accents. Attendance is mandatory, and you have 2 excused absences. It's honestly easier to teach yourself through the online assignments.
She has been the worst professor I have, if you have her I heavily suggest switching. She has been nothing but a bully to all individuals in my lecture. There is clear favoritism explained by the grading.
Like previous reviews, class was taught by TA. Low rating because "class" is more of a study hall. Go to SI, don't slack off, and you'll do fine. Entire course is on ALEKS. Lecture videos are posted, but I never watched one of them and instead used YouTube for any questions I was stuck on. Just show up to class and study, tests matter a lot.
I never met Monica once, a TA taught me, that he was hard to follow at times and ALEKS was easier to use than to listen to him lecture in class. He was very kind though and super fair on homework/extensions.

Hilverding is the epitome of a lousy professor. Never once showed up to class... meaning you never meet your professor. Instead, she decides to use TAs with some pretty heavy accents. Please be prepared to waste your time on ALEKS course modules because there are plenty. You are not allowed to miss class, although there is no benefit if you do go.
monica is the worst professor i've ever encountered, she doesn't care for the students and hires the worst ta's imaginable and you never get to meet her! she should be fired from this university! take this class anywhere but ohio university as you have no choice but to have her. Dont let these reviews scare you, this class was so easy. Im not even that good at math and I got 100 on every exam. Never once met the actual prof so its hard to rate her but you have a TA and as long as you do the outside work its an easy A. I never saw Monica Hilverding while taking this course. TA treated the class like a study hall. Got almost every single practice problem/example question in front of the class, WRONG. Having attendance mandatory for a class that is treated as a study hall and the TA barely acknowledges the students is mind blowing. Hated that I had to pay for this!
She was not a good professor whatsoever. I got her instead of a TA, but she was weirdly passive aggressive and did not feel supportive. She was alright with teaching, but I barely wanted to participate. The only reason I got an A was because I studied a LOT outside of class and crammed before tests. Also, LOTS of ALEKS assignments. Beware.

What an absolute waste of time and money. Never even saw the professor, only a TA. Attendance is mandatory, and as others have mentioned, the class is essentially a study hall. It's not hard to get a good grade as the math is extremely easy, but the TA and unnecessary class time make this course terrible. Unfortunately there's no alternative at OU.
You actually never meet Monica, you will have a TA and most of the time they have accents that you can't understand and they teach the material in a very weird way. Just go to tutoring every week and be prepared to spend many hours teaching yourself the material. It is all things that you learned in highschool.
One of the worst professors I've ever had. She seems like a nice woman but is EXTREMELY passive aggressive and will genuinely make you feel belittled when you don't know an answer. The class itself is fine, she's a good teacher but an awful woman to be around. She's bubbly and friendly one minute and in the next will make you feel awful.
This professor was awful. She hires TAs to teach her classes, and I never met her in person, only saw her in videos. Most of her TAs have accents (not their fault), and my TA had a thick accent and terrible handwriting. My classmates often had to ask him to repeat or clarify. -10/10, would NOT recommend. Avoid this professor if you can.

This class was great. You have 3 participation grades, 7 easy homework assignments, and 3 exams. Attendance is mandatory. Monica was a good professor and always helped me when I needed it. She usually does review sessions for the exams which were helpful. I really enjoyed her and her class; I would take this class again.
