Very easy class if you attend most sessions. Very few homework assignments.
just read the entire chapter and highlite. most of grade from tests-very easy. lecture notes have key information for test. just read the book on parts where she mentioned in class. shes easy n tells you how to get A. just pay attention to key words
Class is not very hard, but it is not very exciting. She lectures everyday, which gets to be kind of boring. Her trst are pretty easy if oyu study the study guide.
shes a really great teacher, the only problems i can see are the fact that she goes way to much into the biology part of the class, its human sexuality not bio... if u want to learn about sexuality dont take her! but if u want indepth on std's and cancer then go for it.
She is the best science teacher I've had. I am not really that great at science, but in this class, she makes me more interested. She is helpful and fair. She gives plenty of extra credit so that helps if you are not a good reader and do the work. Her projects are easy to do.
She is the best teacher, yet she is hard. She really know what she is teaching. Tests are hard but she really help. GOOD LUCK!!!
She is very helpful and she tries hard to make sure everyone in the class gets an A. She gives out notes and all you do is fill in the blank; Very easy A. She also gives out a study guide which helps a lot as well. I highly recommend taking her!
As her first time teaching summer class Micro 22 in MT SAC, she was very helpful and considerate professor by far. Although her test question sometimes is a little bit confusing, she still gives a lot of opportunities in order to get through the class - such as numerous extra points. Highly recommended!
good professor, very nice, helpful, & understanding, offers lots of extra credit. i just took her for 1st summer session, it's a lot of work crammed into 6 wks, but it's really not that bad. she let us do 4 group quizzes. her study guides help a lot for the exams.
She is such a nice person! She tried to keep lab interesting as possible. her quizzes her easy and gave a lot of extra credit.
Monica is a great instructor. She was interested in me and wanted me do to well in this difficult class. The class is engaging and worth taking with her.
Monica is a great professor. She's fair, fun, and wants student to do well, so she gives out a ton of extra credit. You do have to study but I got an A without buying the book, I would just look up the graphs by checking out the Micro book at the library. I totally recommend her.
She is a good professor, she created a friendly learning atmosphere, she gives a lot of extra credit, she acts very motherly towards students, she is the best teacher I had in Mt. SAC !! Take her for Micr 22, but you should still study hard.
Good, fun teacher. Most lecture notes are given to you and you fill in the blanks off her powerpoint. Study guides are given for all the test and if you can understand all terms test are much easier! Labs are interseting but the diseases studied are numerous and annoying.
This teacher is awesome. Very motherly and nice. Her lectures are all powerpoint where you fill in the blanks and labs are very interesting and pretty easy. She drops one low test and quiz grade and gives you lots of extra credit. Final was very easy, gives you a cheat card. Take her!!
I pass w/A because I study on my own,her teaching skills are not good. The use of power poit is worthless. So, if you want to pass the class be prepare to get a tutor.1/2 of lecture not in test.
Careless person unsensitive, depends on power poit does not know her material most answer are unclear. prepear to study and dont let her put you down when you are not doing well she is mean and rude. make sure to memorize sentences from the book if you write in your own words points are deducted on essay questions. good luck
Monica really cares about her students. She wants them to learn and helps any way she can. Her lectures are clear, interesting and funny. She knows a lot but makes it easy. Taking notes is a breeze because she gives them to you. Be sure to use the focus list to study for exams. The final was easy. I wish she was teaching other classes.
AVIOD! She is the worst teacher by far!! If you want to teach yourself the course, then take her. her notes suck, her study guide sucks(wouldnt consider it a guide). in lecture, she reads off the slides and her test, half is not covered and when brought up to her, she has an excuse for everything. AVOID
AVOID! She is the worst teacher by far!! If you want to teach yourself the course, then take her. her notes suck, her study guide sucks(wouldnt consider it a guide). in lecture, she reads off the slides and her test, half is not covered and when brought up to her, she has an excuse for everything. AVOID
This is not an easy class!! If you work hard and take her study advice you will get an A. She offers bonus points. She took the time to talk to me about my grades and how I could learn the material and was understanding with a personal situation to let me take a quiz at another time. Concerned teacher. Talk to her after class-nice!
BAD!I agree=>"she reads off the slides and her test, half is not covered in class and when brought up to her, she has an excuse for everything"! many people in my class had a hard time! Doesn't know her stuff, tried to ask her Qs and not ONCE got a clear answer. give lots of EC, but STUDY HARD and don't just rely on the vocab list. take Anderson!
This is a great class. Ms Lee explains labs very well. I did not read the labs ahead of time. The lab quizzes are not easy and the pathogens take a lot of time. In the end I walked away with an A but I studied a lot. She is very helpful and understanding and full of fun information. I recommend taking her for lab. The 6 week sem is fast!
This class can be an easy A if you put effort into studying. Everything for the exams comes off of the lecture notes that comes with a focus list. Just be sure to focus on definitions that require a complex answer because those are used as the essay portion of the test (essay que worth a lot). take spitzer for lab. she's cool and very lenient
she is excellent as a lab teacher because she explains the lab before you do it clearly. However, her lectures were somewhat boring and dry. it is hard to pay attention in class and her notes are too breif. Moreover, her exams are *very* hard and she makes them tricky. she is very nice as a person, but not the best professor.
DO NOT TAKE HER. she does NOT know her stuff. and vaguely explains difficult topics of the class. i HATED her. very unfair and has her favorites, had an excuse for EVERYTHING even if it is her fault. does not grade fairly either, if your answer isn't the book definition, ITS WRONG! save yourself and take anderson. i know i should have.
She does not know her subject. If you have questions about micro, she never gives a straight forward answer. It seems like she herself is confused about the subject she teaches. Very dry lecures, boring. You have to practically quote her words for the test if not she does not give you any credit for your answers.take her as a LAST RESORT!!
I took her class in the summer. Basically just study her lecture handouts she gives you. She grades really tough on her essay portion of her exams. Study real hard for her lecture class. I got a B in her class.
I do not know why there are so many bad comments about her recently, but seriously guys, she teaches very well and she DOES NOT make up questions on the test. whatever on the lecture notes and whatever coming out from her mouth is what's on the test. Many students got As in her Micro 22 class and She is a very straight forward professor.
I'm not sure why she has gotten bad remarks. She's fair with everyone in my opinion. She does grade tough on the essay portion of her exams, but she is preparing most students to become nurses and attention to detail is very important in that field. The labs are fun! Who knew pond water could be so beautiful up close.
She is incredibly difficult, mainly on the essay portion of her exam. she basically does want you to quote her exact words. even if you show your own comprehension of the material, she will never give you the full credit. it's like she wants you to use her examples only, and give it to her in full detail. I'm an A student. She's HARD. don't take he
I got an A because I did what she recommended. I worked hard and I learned a lot and how to learn in nursing school. She really cares about students and their future. She is clear and gives a study list. I would take other classes if she taught them. The 6 week class is crazy-don't do anything else for 6 weeks!
Prof Lee is really helpful. She loves Micro and she makes the class interesting. It is a lot of work but amazing information. The labs are great and she is the best lab and lecturer. I am getting an A because I am taking her study advice and it is a great class. I wish she taught other classes here. She helps you do well in life after mt sac.
RECOMMENDED! Tests are EASY!!! Going to SI session before test=at least a B. Interesting lectures, but the most annoying part is she's always saying "Uh/Uhm". I only had her for lecture, but I like her a lot, TONS of extra credit, and like I said, the tests are easy! If I had her for lab I would assume the quiz are easy-labs are FUN!
Difficult but not after studying. Studying is key for this course. Lee is not a fair teacher. Bottom line. She picks out favorites. Watch out if you're not one of them- because she will try to hurt your grade in one way or another.
i got a c, probably could've done better. but she is really judgemental, like treated me like i was dumb. i hate when teachers do that. it's disrespectful.
Prof is very helpful and really likes teaching Micro. The material is hard but she was there in office hour to help. Study and you can do very well-the tutor is good.
sorry excuse of a teacher. VERY OBVIOUSLY picks favorites and is VERY OBVIOUSLY disrespectful and unfair towards others. PLEASE keep records of all past graded work thats been returned as she is NOT trustworthy with grades of students who arn't on her good side. strict in lab. lectures are straight off power points. adamantly telling you to avoid
She uses outline overhead projector to teach. she gives answers to bacteria to few, if you cant find them, she wont help. Finding bacteria info are hard to find.
I don't see the favoritism in my class. Or maybe I'm just one of her favorites :P But either way, she seems genuinely kind to all the students, and is always willing to help the class with any questions regarding the assignments. Just make sure you study. Her tests are pretty difficult. She offers a lot of extra credit though!
The lecture final was a joke, study = no study. She really does pick out favorites in class and if you aren't one of them. I suggest you do get on her better side. Don't bother arguing with her about grades, because she'll rarely admit that she's wrong. She said she'll go over the pathogens before the actual quizzes but never really do.
I am currently in Prof. Lee's class. She is passionate about Micro and she has fun teaching us. The lectures and notes and study guide are self explanatory. There is a lot of info and she expects a lot. She holds office hours two times per week. I wish she taught other classes. Don't text or talk in class. Great teacher! Helpful! Fun and nice.
This is a very horible profrssor ,her class is boring ,and she is not ready to teach a student .Do not choose her class ,trust me ,otherwise you will regret!
Her lectures are useless. Warning! Not recommended!!!
I had Monica for lecture and lab and felt that she was a good professor and presented the material clearly. There was not a ton of homework, and she gives extra credit opportunities that aren't too difficult.
I took her for microbiology and thought it was a fairly easy class. You have to go to all of her lectures or you will not do well. If you pay attention and take notes you will do well. I studied just off of the PowerPoint handouts and my in class notes and got over 100% on every test. There are many extra credit assignments as well
nice but UNORGANIZED, every exam has a mistake, just reads off of power points, confusing with info, she doesn't recall what she says. but she does offer a lot of extra credit to make up for it. She's a good lab teacher makes u feel comfortable with lab.NOT LECTURE!!!
No recommended. The first time I actually participated in class by asking her a question, she responded in a manner that made it seem as if I were stupid. To this day, even a friend recalls my question and her response, but he just laughs. Infact, when I went to her for feedback, she compared my exam to another student's exam. Not cool.
TAKE HER! Lectures are clear & and exams are based on them, & powerpoints and what she emphasizes. Provides study guides, but you MUST KNOW the material for her exams can be difficult. You must be able to grasp the concepts in order to do well. Offers many extra credit opportunities, drops lowest exam, fun lab, fun teacher, cares about her students
Very knowledgable! Enjoyed her class! Not an A student but passed with flying colors. She made it interesting! Funny! Labs were great too!!!
Professor Lee knows what she is talking about. It's amazing how much I learned the past semester. Though towards the end, I got overloaded by the info and zoned out a bit.
I'm taking her class right now. She is a teacher that continues to learn micro because she truly loves the subject. She us available and helpful. She is concerned about helping you do well. Definitely would take her for another class
She is a hard grader with no office hours I took her for winter and would not recommend.
Fall session. Grade: lecture exams, lab, final- each is 1/3 of total grade. Study PowerPoints and focus lists; must understand concept bc multiple choice can be tricky, free response must be in depth/detailed. Went over difficult concepts several times; don't procrastinate on pathogens; don't skip class, she took attendance daily. MUST STUDY!!
Lectures are tedious because she reads off the PowerPoint. Tells you to study off note packets for exam, but there were ALWAYS questions on the test that weren't in the notes/gone over in class. Tough grader on free response portion of exams, anwser needs to be very detailed.
Takes attendance everyday. Tough grader, especially with lab write up. Our class fell behind... Ended up having to take the final and the last exam on the same day. Seems like she gets irritated when students ask questions.
Professor really tries to help as much as she can, offers tips/advice on how to study when you visit her office hours to review exams (must go to office hours to see what you missed, only shows you scantron/total score in class). Expects a lot from her students, but ended up learning a lot from her class
Professor Lee is really knowledgable and passionate about microbiology! She shares stories in class that make the topic easier to remember/more relatable! Need to thoroughly understand material bc tests questions are conceptual, and not just memorizing the definition. Expects a lot from her students, but you learn and retain A LOT of info.
Tests are mostly multiple choice. She does try to trick you. I didn't buy the book and received a B in the class. I would use the focus list she gives you to study. She is very condescending when you ask questions in class. Very picky when it comes to grading assignments. Use the restroom before class.
She may incorporate her personal experiences to lecture but she can be rude. She can make people feel stupid for asking questions or ask to clarify instructions yet she wants you to come to her and not bother other students. I honestly wouldn't recommend her to anyone. She is very passionate about micro and expects everyone else to feel the same.
Prints slides for you and prohibits technology. Allowed us to go to bathroom without asking, exams have typos, your answer may be correct but if it doesn't match EXACTLY the words she wants, you will be marked off. Material itself isn't hard, regurgitating EXACTLY what she wants is. If your answer is from the textbook and not lecture, you're wrong.
Professor Lee is very knowledgeable. I knew nothing about microbiology and was able to get an A. Here's how: review lecture material daily, memorize to UNDERSTAND (not just recall) the material, and link concepts together. She is a challenging professor, but she offers a great learning experience. You will have to put in time for an A.
Took her over the summer. She's very strict with her own rules and expectations, so it didn't feel like a learning environment for me. She's also not transparent with details like she will grade homework for accuracy and doesn't tell us when/ what specific lab questions were due. Overall, it was a very frustrating class & I DO NOT recommend her
I was afraid of Micro!! It was tough and a bit overwhelming at first but definitely glad I had Mrs. Lee as my professor. She is tough, you have to figure stuff out for yourself but that's all part of the learning process.
Shes a tough grader & tries to trick you on tests. If you believe she graded you unfairly dont bother trying to fight it, she wont care. I got points deducted on an assignment in which she messed up my sample. Overall I got 89% in her class. Other profs would make an exception for that <1% but not her.
Took Prof. Lee during winter and it was very difficult, but expected for a fast session. She is very passionate about micro but her lectures are extremely boring and you need to pay attention to what she says, not whats just written on the powerpoints. Exams are extremely tricky and is the hardest part of the course. Lab is easy though.
Sweet and honest lady. However her work is overwhelming. Not only that but shes inconsiderate when it comes to issues outside of school. Someone got covid in our class a week before finals. We have exam 4 the week before finals and she only said we can take it during finals week. She couldve made it online but ignored all the students complaining
The class isnt too difficult, it was to be expected for this type of course. This professor is very lecture heavy and at times I found myself dozing off and checking the clock. It was overall a good experience and if I can do it anyone can!! -mom of 3 small kids.
very difficult class but i manage to pass even when working and doing community service. grades super hard on exams(3 finals 33% of grade). someone goy infected with covid so we had to take our unit 4 exam during finals. the test can be tricky with many a and b questions. Writen part on exams: be precise pay attention to detail. I learned a lot
If your memorization skills are not the greatest, it's going to be very hard to pass the class. You have to memorize all the slides. She doesn't tell you what's on the exam, instead she tells you what's NOT on the exam, and that's not very many things. Lab was easy, but quizzes can get overwhelming because you have to do many pathogen charts.
we had little time to study for an exams/quizzes. example: took an exam on wed., online quiz due sat., lecture final on mon., and lab final on wed.. she was late by 1.5 hours w/o a notice and we only got told my another prof.. also we had to watch lecture videos on multiple chapters on our own.
Read this review!! Prof Lee is very caring and straightforward. I only studied her lecture notes for all tests and got As on each one. VERY lecture based so pay attention. Pathogen charts: GET Diseases Manual. Info is all from there. Utilize resources and actually study. Otherwise you cant get an A. Labs are fun and simple. Shes amazing!
Professor Lee can be very tough but she is super sweet. As long as you do her homework, extra credit, and dedicate a lot of time to study, you will do well. She gives a lot of extra credit and make up opportunities so take advantage of it
She cares about your success and wants to make sure you have a working knowledge of the material. Her tests are hard but she gives a focus list and its mostly definitions. Her quizzes are proctored online by honorlock and they can be hard as well but honestly she gives you all the tools you need to pass. Micro is hard, so the class is hard.
Exams require sentence answer, answers must match lectures but lectures are condensed so much so that some parts do not make sense or contradict the textbook or conflict with study guide, she is dismissive/condescending towards questions asking for clarification of the contradictions. Misleading/trick questions. lectures/guides don't help. Avoid.
Awful. Does not care about students. Lectures are dull and pointless as she either reads off slides or explains irrelevant material. Power points are useless. Is not considerate of her students' time or health. Run!!! Not an easy A.
Terrible. Awful. Horrible. Bad.
Don't show up to class sick and cough on all of you students!
Self-learn and self-study are the only ways to pass this class. Her lectures are long, boring, and irrelevant. She also has the habit of ranting on about personal stories that have no relevance to content material. Do not choose this professor even if spots with other professors are already filled. You will regret it.
Very rude and hates to answer questions that are being asked by students. Professors are supposed to help their students thrive and help them gain all the knowledge that they can. Instead she makes sure you fail. She rushes material and makes you self study. Not fair at all.
Very rude. She was kind in the beginning of the semester but that changed. Her exams are impossible to do well on, averages were always 60%. The written portion is extremely difficult. She requires you to write word for word from her PPT slides. Take another professor if you can, if she's the only one, trust me wait until next semester.
Really the worst Microbiology professor I regret taking this course and already had completed Chem and Anatomy prior with no issues. Do not take this professor even as a last resort. I am now in nursing school and still have not had such a bad experience as Professor Lee. She is rude and condescending.
Took this professor and regretted everything about it. Makes it VERY clear if you're not one of her favorites. She has absolutely no sympathy for you in her class. Trust me, don't take this class and regret it like I did.
Summer course, it was INTENSE. An A is difficult to achieve but not impossible. If you are good at memorization, memorize her powerpoints and you'll get a good grade. This is my suggestion for an A: Get 85's on her tests and quizes and if you do everything else (Lab work/extra credit/assignments) you will get a solid A. She is not an easy A, study!
DO NOT, i repeat do not take monica lee. She does not care about her students and does not care about whats going on in your personal life. She had threatened to drop me numerous times despite the fact i live over an hour away. Her exams are so difficult and she didnt give any form of review. She also assumed a lot of people were trying to cheat.
grading wise she drops alot of quizzes and tests, but even then it doesnt do much. her grading on exams is very unclear, asking her questions WILL not receive a clear answer, shes extremely condescending as well and not good at explaining. the class does require a textbook but it was not really used much
Terrible professor that will make you feel lesser than her. She's quite a bully if I'm being honest. Does not give a clear answer when you are asking questions and will counter your question with another question. All and all, avoid this professor if you can. I regret taking this class with a professor like her.
If you want to struggle and fail, this is the professor for you.
Reads off the slides almost every lecture and is very condescending and judgmental towards her students. Exams are difficult and does not really let us know what we need to exactly study for for the exams. I feel like I wasted my time and energy taking this professor. (I also feel like i learned nothing from her class).
My mental health heavily declined taking this professor. Never had any issues with other science courses or professors until Monica Lee. I passed, but at what cost? Very condescending professor and will make you feel dumb when asking questions. Avoid her if you can and take any other micro professor.
all i have to say is terrible professor to be teaching you microbio. if you want to pass prepare yourself to suck up to her. she can be nice in the beginning of the semester, but will eventually show her true colors by the end.
My time was wasted taking this professor, she singled me out a lot and I still don't understand why. Accused me and my classmates of cheating on the exams. I would not recommend anyone take this professor. Save your time and energy by taking another professor.
All the low ratings are all true. Save yourself from taking this professor.
Read all the reviews before taking this class and be prepared because they're all true. She is very condescending and makes you feel dumb for asking questions. Her exams are very difficult, make sure to study the material thoroughly and think critically. Stay on top of the pathogen charts
i took m.lee for lab and she is very thoughtful to her students, but she's just a tough grader and will take off points for small details like not labeling. she's also NOT lenient whatsoever and will not bend her rules for you; however, she offers a ton of extra credit to help boost your grade! she saved mine :-) just take her and follow directions
Kind professor and she really does want you to succeed. Took her for the winter and we had to do pathogen chart like everyday, but we got extra credit for completing them by a certain time. Lab quizzes once or twice a week based on pathogen chart + previous labs. Finals (gram-stain) are very easy, she lets you use your previous labs and notes
i have never felt such malicious energy from a teacher & yes she made me cry. will not tolerate any missed terms on written portion of exams & will dock points for any mistake she deems wrong. gives students attitude for asking questions & refuses to repeat herself during lecture. waste of time & money to the point that it should be online. RUN.
Current nursing student but I did take Professor Lee for micro as a prerequisite. She was very rude and condescending whenever I would ask questions. This is the worst class I ever taken, but it was worth it because now a few months out from becoming a RN. Would not take this class again even if someone paid me. Not friendly/approachable professor
If you read reviews, this is for you. I was determined to finish my last prerequisite for the RN program, but the professor made this class difficult, and I failed, and now I will not meet my deadline. She is horrible and doesn't help students at all. This is a waste of time and resources. Consider taking someone else, please !!!!!!!!
This old lady should have been retired by now. BEWARE of a horrible scripted final exam that does not test skill rather tests insanity of a professor. This class is very doable, but she will definitely invalidate and bring you down from being an A student. consider different campus or professor
If you have any other choice, CHOOSE IT. I can't even begin to describe how this woman made me feel, matter of fact, I have never felt this way in any other college course. It's crazy that at this point of her life she acts so childish and condescending. I saw a classmate of mine have a panic attack in the restroom after the final. UNBELIEVABLE!
Out of all the professors I have taken this class has been by far the worst. She would yell at students. Docked points if your unknown organism didn't grow mind you, in a summer class we only incubated 1 day. Whereas in a regular semester some professors allow up to a week for growth. Overall she conducted her class in a unprofessional manner.
Horrible experience. Of my entire college experience This has been the rudest meanest professor. I am now a RN and I cringe just thinking of how awful she was towards me as a student in 2015 ten years ago.
