Dr.Nelson is an excellent instructor. She is consistent, no surprises, her exams are not easy, but they do cover the information she tells you they will. She also has a very likable personality, fairly laid back.

Great teach. Her notes are clear and reflect what's on the exam. She provides an outline on what to expect on her exams. She also has a very nice disposition. Highly recommnded.

Dr. Nelson was totally awesome, being a returning student with kids and being very nervous about getting back into school she made Bio very interesting. She is very patient when people are confused and is very good at outlining everything you need to know for the tests. Nelson is one of the best bio teachers that one could take. She teaches only the necessary materials, you don't need the book, you do fun labs, and her tests come directly from the notes. Highly recommend this awesome professor!!!

M.Nelson is friendly and teaches just what will be on the test. Sometimes she can go too fast and can be unclear but overall I would still recomend because she gave us bonus point work at the end of semester to pull the grades up which helped a lot.

M-N is great.she doesnt just throw stuff at you and say sink or swim, she helps you, keeps it so you arent overwhelmed, has fun group stuff, gets everyone to participate, and is just a generally nice person to be around. i really enjoyed her class and hope to take another one with her in the future!

She is a great teacher! She was the first teacher I had when I came back to school and she made the transition easy and fun. If she writes it on the board it is on the test!!! That simple. She gives all the time in the world to help you if you need it. Best Teacher EVER!!!

Mrs. Marquez is a great teacher. She really knows her stuff and knows how to teach. Attendance is mandatory in order not to fall behind on material but the labs are good and the tests are good too. She is very repetitive about what is going to be on the test. There are no surprises. It is not hard. I definitly recommend her if you need bio 151.

Mrs. Marquez-Nelson was an AWESOME instructor. She was very clear in her explanation, followed the book in her lectures, but only lectured on the areas that she wanted you to know. If you come to class, pay attention and study for your tests you will do fine.

She was so helpful and very clear on what was going to be on the test. u knew exactly wat to study. She explains things so cleartly: notes, labs, EVERYTHING. You do need to study for the test the material can be difficult but she helps narrow down everything. She's the best there is!! AWESOME...very sweet too. (dont really use the book tho)

faaantastic! her notes are exactly what you need to know for the tests. she really wants u to do well. she doesnt give a lot of homework but you still learn because she shows videos and the labs are fun. if you miss class you will most likely miss a lab which will affect your grade so i would suggest TAKE THIS TEACHER and DONT MISS CLASS :)

She is so helpful and makes my day! She is willing to take the extra time to help you out. Her notes are amazing. She literally explains what exactly is going to be on the test almost word for word. So study your notes DON'T BE LAZY IT WILL PAY OFF!

She is an excellent teacher! She writes everything you need to now for the test on the board, and if you take good notes you will have absolutely no trouble passing. I took her in the summer, and it flew by. The final is a little difficult, but if you study you will do fine.

I disagree with the more recent comments about Mrs. Marquez-Nelson. I thought she was a caring professor who made things easier for Bio 151 students. She usually told us exactly what was going to be on the lab quizzes and tests. She is friendly and sometimes funny. Good teacher.

Dr. Nelson is a good teacher! Read your book, but don't be intimidated by it because she will explain what you need to know in class. Be sure to write down all the notes from the board. If you don't understand something, ask her. She is very helpful. Overall, if you come to all classes, listen, read, study, and show up for labs, you'll do fine!

Animals & Society was a pretty easy class. She could've made it a bit more interesting, but regardless, it was cool and straight-forward. The tests are a bit difficult, so study your notes. She lets you know what to study in her lectures. Labs are neat. Don't bother buying the book, you can just google stuff. Marquez is a cool, nice lady.

I really liked her! She simplifies the lessons. We NEVER go straight off the book. She uses powerpoints and pictures from the book. Don't bother trying to read the book because it makes it harder than it really is! She gets her test questions straight from the book and has reviews days before the test! Pay attention and takes notes, you'll be fine!

Prior to taking this class I had zero interest in Science--her class is fun, no nonsense, and to the point. If you show up and show interest, and do the work, you WILL get a good grade. If you're lazy and take advantage of how nice she is, she WILL notice. BTW, her intelligence is overly atrractive--you'll understand when you take the class.

She condenses the chapters down into powerpoints (which is her lecture), and then condenses THOSE down into notes that she writes on the board. Copy what she does, and memorize it for the test and it's impossible not to ace this class. There is also 1 dissection every week more or less. The book we only used for labs, but I just used my neighbor's

Mrs Nelson is a good teacher to pass this class you must show up everyday and take all her notes and study hard from it The labs were easy she instructs you how to set it up after that your group is on their own ask her questions if you dont understand the material if you don't try in this class she will not help you

Very nice, great notes, easy grader. Just do the work & study the notes she writes. Gives a ton of extra credit, the animal news project is easy, & the paper wasn't too bad. Understanding if you have to miss a classtest. Just don't miss dissections since they are harder to make up. Copy the dissection diagrams for the lab tests - you'll need it.

Professor Marquez is an amazing biology teacher. She was a huge reason for deciding my science major. Shes very smart and her intelligence shows in her lectures. She makes class interesting and everything she lectures is in the tests. Power points are clear and concise, if you take the notes, you'll for sure get an A. Great teacher!!

She was a really good teacher. Her class is not that hard if you pay attention and never miss class. If you don't go one day you are must likely to miss a lot for the next test. Her notes are exactly the test, study the notes and you'll pass. Book wasn't really use only for lab and examples. She uses same pictures from the book in her powerpoints.

She's clearly intelligent and knows what she's teaching. If there's a science/biology question she doesn't know the exact answer to she'll do quick research and get back to you by the next time the class meets. I really appreciate her enthusiasm and interest in the subject and in teaching it. Pay attention and do the reviews you'll ace every exam.

PLEASE do yourself a favor and take Professor Marquez-Nelson. All the people who say she's not a good teacher are wrong. Best teacher I've ever had. I received a 98% in her class. Study her notes AND read the book. She doesn't remind you about online quizzes (especially the first one) so do it!!! No homework other than studying. Very nice woman!!

Very cool and funny teacher. If you are going for nursing, this class REALLY helps for the TEAS V test. So do not mess around. Study, study, study. Notes are very clear but read the textbook as well. I received all a's on my exams by looking over notes, the book, and by completing the study guide online. Extra credit for online quizzes as well.

Ms. Nelson was a decent teacher for 149. She was clear with what she expected of us. Be prepared to be in the lab almost every day. Study! her tests are difficult but not too bad, there are 5 and the final. online quizzes are easy.

Bio 106 is a "Life Science" lab credit for people who hate Biology. Mrs. Marquez-Nelson knows this and gives a basic overview of the phylums as well as interesting information. Just show up to class, take good notes, and review the Powerpoints before the test. She really wants to pass you. I wish more teachers at JJC were like her.

Amazing teacher! Friendly, and assigned only 2 homework assignments over entire semester. The rest was in class labs that you do with your group. The study guide for the test was great, and went over everything in class you needed to know. Take notes, show up, pay attention, and you are fine.

She is very clear from the get go of her expectations. She does not care for excuses/laziness and will not help you if you're not willing to put the work in. She literally gives you everything you need ahead of time to prepare yourself to get the grade you want. It all comes down to your self discipline, motivation and effort in her class.

Professor nelson was a wonderful teacher! I loved her style of teaching and lectures she provided. Tests are directly from the notes, might even be word for word. Labs are easy points as long as you show up and participate. As long as you understand the material and pay attention youll pass with an A!

I am impressed by how much knowledge she has readily available to answer questions and enhance lectures.

I was worried about taking biology because I am not very good at science, but I ended up with an A in this class! Her notes directly correlate with her tests, and the quizzes for each chapter are online and very easy! My only advice is to come to class in order to get lab participation points and take good notes.

Shes a good professor. The tests are just like the lecture notes, and there are online quizzes that are just like test questions as well. If you show up to lab you get points, and the labs are fairly easy. The grading criteria is made clear on the first day of class. Shes a good choice.

I was a little anxious before starting this class seeing as science isn't my best subject. She thoroughly explained everything. Although she was lecture heavy, all the info on the lectures and the notes she gave were on the tests she would give. Who cares if she can't spell some words correctly, I loved having her as a teacher.

I really loved taking her class even though it was a 8:00 am class :/ she really goes heavy on her lectures she writes on the board for her students to know what to write in their notes and whatever she writes on the white board that means its going to be on the test for each unit. Theres no quizzes just online hw and study hard for test

She teaches you what you need to know, literally writes the notes on the board and the tests are based off the notes. Yes you have to study, but if you go to class, put in the effort and study for the exams theres no reason you shouldnt pass.

Good teacher! She is a harsh grader in the beginning so make sure u do work correctly. She knows what she is doing & gives really good lectures. Notes are very good & tells u exactly what is on test. 5 test total which are kind of hard but If u study notes Youll be fine. I wish she was available to take for all of my BIO classes! You will have to put in effort on your part, but she is a great teacher. If you learn well through lectures you will love her. Recommended that you study for a minimum of 2 hours per exam if you want an A. I did not study because I am lazy :( passed with an 87.5% which is my fault.

Mrs. Marquez provides detailed study guides before each exam. She grades very quickly and goes over the exams with the whole class. She gives helpful reminders for quizzes and other assignments on the board. She is available outside of class hours for extra help. To top it off, she has a great personality and grades fairly.

Biology is definitely not for everyone, but she teaches exactly what you need to know for the test. Studying is required because biology isn't easy, but she drops your 3 lowest quizzes and conducts great reviews before tests. Must show up and take notes (She writes them on the bored) to pass! She is specific about what she wants you to know. If she's writing it on the whiteboard then it's safe to say you should write it as well. Uploads review PowerPoint for exams/final exam + they are true to what's on the test. Uses class time wisely + plans out things accordingly. Doesn't just read off the slides. Made a 6 wk science class tolerable.

Professor Marquez-Nelson was a great teacher for BIO 149. Her lectures were very detailed and her labs were interesting. She is very caring and kind to her students. Absolutely great professor, I have no complaints. She grades fast, accepts questions without judgement, and has good lectures that cover everything that you will need for your tests at a pace that I personally could keep up with very well. As long as you apply yourself and utilize your notes and the homework to study you will do great.

Take notes, make notecards, and I guarantee you'll get an A! Was intimidating at first to have no study guides but the notes are so straight forward and well structured trust me it doesn't matter. Very kind, easy grader, and available outside class (also returned an item I left in class) take her over Geo ur gpa will thank u.
