This teacher could make anyone love math, she is totally awesome!!!
super super nice person!
Great prof!
She is so enthousiastic about math! She makes her students want to love calculus! She is also great at explaining, and very patient with student's questions! Really cute personality!
I wish there were more teachers like Dr. Nevins. She obviously loves her job, easily connects with students and that's how she knows what students expect. She knows her stuff and enjoys teaching it, unselfishly shares her knowledge with everyone else.
A happy prof..
Monica is a very friendly and approachable teacher who loves to chat. She is quite good at helping with anything. The midterm and final were a little easy, BUT THAT'S OK! Otherwise, she is a great teacher.
Very nice prof and very approachable BUT she really doesn't know how to teach. She should just do research. She seems very brilliant...
A very enthusiastic prof who really knows her stuff. Her little quirks made me laugh. On the first day of class she yelled out "I love math!!"
She is the most enthusiastic prof i've ever seen, i was worried about calc, but since i have her i enjoy going to class. she is awesome

worst prof on campus. does not know how to handle students, cannot answer questions, has no concern for students. only wants he paycheque. she deserves a negative rating.
I find her real annoying with the fat chalk and irritating voice... did not like her at all.
Very friendly, some people thought she was a little CRAZY, I thought that she was fun!
Great prof. VERY enthusiastic. Will stop in the middle of a lecture to answer questions. Lectures were clear and taught what was required. If you do the reccomended problems, midterms/exam are easy.
3 WORDS: DO YOUR HOMEWORK!!
Excellent lectures; she teaches with enthusiasm and great clarity and is very approachable. Enjoyed her class very much. Do the homework, seek help when needed (such as the math help center) and you will do fine.
the woman is nuts

love her, she knows how to teach, and explains well!!!
A brilliant prof. Knows her stuff like a Harvard professor.
Best prof I've ever had. MIT Ph.D. She is brilliant and so humble. Exams are very fair. Loves her math and it shows.
best prof
God knows that she is crazy but she sure as hell knows her stuff. Maybe overebthusiastic at 08 330 when you wannabe back home in yr bed. She is really funny. One word of caution. She is really good but you better watch out for the pace coz she is really fast. Half of the class moved out because of that in the first week.
Her exams were really fair, but she had a fast pace.THE PROBLEM is that she doesn't solve questions in class...rather, I personally see that she focuses on the theory more than solving problems on it during her lectures..But I know she's better than others..If you have her class, try to practice the suggested questions AND OTHERS after each lecture
The best prof you'll have, 'nuff said.
i think she's a tad bit too much to handle in an 8:30 morn math class, but at least she gets you fired up and ready for the rest of the day. midterms were easy, but beware of final. DO THE HOMEWORK, and the truth shall set you free
POSTS NOTES ONLINE (that no other calc teacher does), ALWAYS WILLING TO HELP, SUPER FRIENDLY, BEST CALCULUS TEACHER I'VE EVER HAD
She explains concepts well. If you understand and study her notes, there is absolutely no need to do any of the practice questions! I just memorized her notes from class! You can do well if you understand the content and pay attention. Though, she doesn't really care for the welfare of students if you talk to her about personal problems.
Goes to great lengths to make sure we understand what she's talking about. Class notes available online almost word for word what happens in class including questions asked. She's really helpful and so into math that it's funny in a cute way. Good times. Cons: She talks very fast sometimes and loses track of time.
Seriously, an awesome teacher, passionate in quite a few ways while teaching, it's rather amazing
She's a really fast talker which can be very difficult at times. Be ready to take lots of notes
Very approachable and helpful if you ahve a question. She talks/writes very fast though, keeping up can sometimes be a challenge. Overall pretty good.
Nevins is an amazing prof. She's very interested and excited about her subject, which makes all the difference in the world. She moves very quickly and is by no means an easy professor, but I thoroughly enjoyed her course.
You won't go wrong with her. The class is difficult, but she's great at teaching and her assignments are fair. It's true that she goes fast, but her notes are great - just review before and after each class to make sure you got everything. Approachable and really knows the subject. Enthusiastic teacher.
Professor Nevins is on a whole different level. If you don't love the subject, you'll at least love her lectures. And if you love neither, then you're in the wrong program. Extremely helpful, everything on homework leads up to questions on midterms. i.e. cannot go wrong with this prof.
Monica Nevins is a prof who can really convey the material very well, but she talks really fast!!! Assignments and exams are not hard, if you take the time to understand what's going on. Fair marker.
She is very approachable and friendly. She makes a difficult course (algebraic geometry) look easy and maths become more fun by her teaching. She is brilliant and also very humble. Course notes are always available online and clear. No doubt, one of the best professor out there, as other comments also agree on.
No one will show you how much they care about every individual student as much as Monica does. But she has absolutely the most difficult midterms you will ever encounter. If you take her class do ask her for help, she loves students that goes to her for help. I honestly suggest that you go with another prof IF you have taken this course previously.
Nevins is a very accomplished prof. She is extremely clear, and goes though the material like one would expect in a high school class. Her exams aren't the easiest, but if you go to class, you'll do well.
Excellent professor. Clear teaching, very helpful, and an all-around nice person who is more than happy to help out her students. Clearly loves teaching. Exams are hard but fair.
Excellent prof! Very enthusiastic about her love for mathematics. Tough exam/midterms but her expectations are clear. Keep up with your work and you won't have a problem.
One of the best profs you can have! She loves math and she loves teaching. Assignments, exercises, notes all lead up to the exams and her tests are very fair- they actually test whether you know your stuff. Very nice and helpful during office hours and will nourish your interest in math. If you came to university to learn something, take her class.
Extremely energetic teacher. Clear and enthusiastic when lecturing. Writes her own set of (public) course notes in PDF ... but don't miss classes! Grading is fair, but she'll make you sweat throughout! Hard HWs, weekly quiz. People in maths/stats (even engineers) should take 1325 instead of 1322. Learn analysis! instead of just integration.
It is clear that this awesome prof loves math. She wants you to pass and will not hesitate to site down with you and help you with your homework. Very open to appointments. This is great, considering homework were excruciatingly difficult. Tests weren't that bad, but it's probably going to be one of your harder classes.
Really energetic prof that will do all she can to try to make you understand the material, and is clearly passionate about what she's teaching. The homework however is - and I can't understate this - extremely difficult, as while it has to do with what you're learning in class, it makes you go above what you learned and can be very frustrating.
Monica Nevins is the kind of professor that you want to put in a cloning machine, so that she can teach you all of your math classes. She's kind. She's interesting. She's thoughtful. What does that woman eat in the morning? I don't know, but I wish I did, because she's crazy energetic. She's the professor you need for Calc & Intro to Analysis.
I didn't like her teaching method; she spends the whole lecture time by writing of what comes out of her mouth. Also, she speaks fast and throws lots of unnecessary math notations which makes everything more complicated (simple math problem gets to complex to understand. However, she is nice and energetic professor.
THE MOST BRUTAL CLASS I EVER HAD IN MY LIFE, get ready to study for at least 2 hrs every day for this class. Really helpful professor though, always available after class for 2 hrs or so. Posts exam questions online, but don't be fooled.
TAKE 1322 IF YOU VALUE YOUR GPA. Monica Nevins is the best professor I've had so far, and possibly the best professor I'll ever get, but this course is far too demanding.
Best prof I've ever had. She's brilliant, inspirational, clear, and really nice. The course material was brutal but she went above and beyond to help us do well.
Course was really difficult but she's there to help you through it. Try not to be too fazed by her assignments- they are very frustrating but aren't worth much and the tests/exams are much easier. Overall a very entertaining, passionate and helpful prof.
Dr. Nevins was my favourite professor this semester. She's animated, funny, and will always take a question before or after class. Her exams aren't too hard if you keep up with the coursework (watch out for midterm 2). Her review sheets cover everything and she recycles problems from the textbook. Also DGD attendance is worth free marks!
Very knowledgeable however gets very excited and talks extremely fast and throws far too many examples out there instead of taking the time to work through a few in-depth, rushes through many.
Took her my first year, excellent professor and lecturer. Went above and beyond to help during office hours and later directly helped me secure a paid research position. Her lectures are animated and trying hard in her calculus class pays dividends throughout your whole degree, you will use what you learn in MAT1320 practically.
Loves to scream calculus at you, but she knows what shes talking about. Too many examples, not enough explanation.
Super energetic at 8:30 am. The fact that she marked all of our exams herself just shows how dedicated she is to teaching. She gives great feedback and has awesome notes posted on Brightspace that she adds after each lecture. Exams were not for the weak minded though.
This class is extremely difficult as the lectures go at an unbelievably rapid pace, graded homework assignments are frustrating and time-consuming, and the tests are difficult. However, Dr. Nevins is best during her office hours. Practice every day and you'll survive, otherwise you'll fail the second midterm like I did.
Monica Nevins is amazing! She is super caring and wants to help you succeed. Shes also super passionate and it shows in her teaching. Her lectures are very good and shes always super helpful in office hours.
Monica Nevins is a must take. Her lectures only require you to copy stuff down, her homeworks are SUPER similar to the midterms and are generally easy if you just refer to your notes from the lectures, her midterms were very doable if you can do the online homework, and her exam was a bit more difficult but nothing impossible if you just practice!
overall a good prof, very fair midterms, exam was harder compared to the midterms. Her lectures are mediocre as she often complicates things. She is very approachable and cares about her students. Solid choice for a prof, would recommend.
OMG. I was gettng an A+ for the past two midterms and the final really surprised me. ENDED UP WITH C with the exam and my mark went from A+ to B+. BE CAREFUL WITH FINALS dude. It's worth like 45%? of the final mark and really midterms don't matter. If you screw up one final. She writes soooo fast so AVOID HER. Worth skipping cuz u won't learn any
She's a really great prof! I really enjoyed her class, even the 8:30s. She is extremely passionate about math which is shown through her lectures. it can be a bit off putting when she gets so animated about math but i much prefer overly excited than boring and monotone. Her midterms reflect the online homework but the final is hard so be careful!
She's great! Her enthusiasm for math is extremely evident in lectures and it definitely helps to keep her students engaged. Her lectures are very well organized and it is clear what she expects of her students
Nevins is a great prof! You can tell how passionate she is about the subject, and she will spend extra time with you during office hours to make sure you understand. I failed miserably, but hey, I probably should have expected that when I can barely do 12x8 in my head.
Overall really amazing prof. Knows her information really well, very approachable, cares deeply for her students and is extremely passionate about the subject. Well organized and clear expectations. The midterms and final were fair (similar to assignments)- easy to do well if you take the time to understand the concepts and lots of practice!
Doesn't post lecture slides but if you take notes in class she makes a lot of sense
So nice!
Monica is a great calculus prof! She is very enthusiastic and caring. The midterms/final are challenging, but if you put in the time to study and practice, you will do well.
She doesnt explain concepts clearly she just uses examples in order to illustrate the concepts. You learn patterns to solve problems instead of actual theory behind it
OMG she is so delight, I love her so much, you got to pick her as your professor
Absolutely fabulous! Dedicated, extremely fair midterms and overall amazing
Great person, terrible prof. She loves math which is clear, but she went almost double overtime for every lecture. Even when you study hard, the midterms are unfair and have the hardest questions of a topic with no in class examples resembling them. The platform chosen for midterms and weekly assignment was HORRIBLE and its mistakes are our fault.
Practiced weeks for the final and still think i did horrible.
She wasn't technically my professor but I went to her lectures for a course I was taking for better understanding. I have to say that Monica Nevins is one of the best professors I have ever had. Online school has been tough but she has executed it perfectly. She cares about all studnets, not even in her own class. Wish I could say more butnospace
Professor Nevins was kind & loved math. She taught what she taught well, unfortunately the exams were on a difficult to navigate platform and were much heavier than both homework & work taught in the lectures. Went into the exam with an A+ after trying very hard on midterms, would be surprised if I kept that grade, or even close.
I loved Prof Nevins. She's a great teacher and gives us a lot of resources to practice. I found the second midterm really hard (but she ended up giving our class bonus marks because the average was so low). The exams were always slightly harder than the practice ones she would give us, but they were still doable. Make sure you practice A LOT.
She's very kind and always replied to emails and questions quickly. That being said, her midterms and final were difficult in comparison to what we had done in class, the homework and practice questions we were assigned, and previous midterms. If you're strong in math, she's a solid prof. Just make sure you do as many practice problems as possible.
Came out of high school as a solid lower end 90's student, took her course, did great on the diagnostic and first exam, but got utterly destroyed by the second. Definitely due to the demand of my other courses considering I decided that I would replace all my electives with complex mandatory courses, but study hard and do lots of practice to pass!
Dr. Nevins is a good prof. However, some of the questions in the homework and exams are complicated and/or difficult. In high school, I received a high 7 in IB math, so I didn't expect to struggle in calculus, but some of her questions were so confusing, even for me. That being said, she is a very caring person and is accessible for questions.
Dr. Nevins was the type of prof that you really want to like because she's such a nice person but just isn't the best teacher. She just writes down the steps to solving problems with no verbal explanation (replaces a lot of words with "blah") which is not helpful for ppl who aren't visual learners. She grades really fairly and leaves good feedback.
Dr. Nevins is a very passionate professor and you can clearly tell that she loves what she teaches. However, her tests were more on the hard side and you really need to do so much practice to do well. She grades VERY fairly so don't worry much about losing marks unnecessarily. She replies to emails and answered questions very quickly.
This lady is so passive aggressive it is scary. She is not a good prof.
Standard calculus professor. She is easily accessible and is approachable if you have questions. Her notes are usually pretty clear, but her homeworks are long, time consuming and sometimes difficult. Her tests, with the exception of the 2nd midterm, are easier than the homework questions. You definitely have to work hard for your grade.
Professor Nevins is phenomenal. She has so much passion for what she does and works hard for her students. If you do the homework and understand it you can do extremely well in the course. All midterms and the final were fair! 10/10 recommend
Great Lecturer, provided so many different explanations on 1 question until everyone understood. Stayed for questions after every class. Just a genuinely pleasant person. The tests can be daunting because they are out of so few points but just make sure you do the homework and practise the MANY practise problems she provides and you will be fine.
Tests are way more difficult than anything done in class or on homework. She also doesnt explain anything properly and expects you to teach yourself. Absolutely ridiculous.
A terrible professor. Doesnt know how to teach.
Makes her tests so much harder than examples done in class. Also has a horrible temper, yells for no reason. Should not be a professor.
Horrible prof
Very bad at explaining material and makes her tests way too difficult.
Makes me hate school
A horrible professor. Doesn't know how to teach. If you can get a different prof, do it
Had to drop because this teacher is so ridiculously horrible. Lost brain cells in this course
Awesome Professor. I'm in another class and go to her lectures all the time. She's so good at teaching and clearly has a passion for math. I don't rate profs but the rating she's getting upsets me. SHES LITERALLY THE FREAKING GOAT(Greatest of All Time). Get into her class if you have the opportunity. I really wish to have her for another class.
She cannot teach for her life, her lectures are very confusing. Homework assignments and sample practice exams will not prepare you because her exams are 10x harder esp her second midterm.
A horrible professor, avoid her at all costs. She really can't explain for a dime and uses a lot of filler words "uhm" "uh". She is also very passive aggressive, yelled at a student for simply asking a question about a formula sheet. Over all I would suggest you look for a different professor, definitely not worth the stress.
This prof is extremely passive aggressive when questions are asked during class. Horrible at explaining concepts and skips through a lot of important steps.
Literally the worst prof i had the whole semester. During her lectures she goes over the most basic questions and barely explains her steps and expects us to just know it, like no we dont know it. she provides us with homework problems which turn out to be much easier than the content on exams. She is passive aggressive. Her exams were way too hard
Dr. Nevins is amazing! Shes caring and explains concepts clearly! She provides the BEST resources (Course guide, lectures notes, etc) and as long as you practice a LOT and use her resources, you can do great! First midterm was good (A-) but second was a harder (D+ average). Exam was really great and the questions she put is fair.
By far the worst educator Ive ever had in my life. Lectures are horribly taught, barely explaining anything. Uses a lot of words like blah blah and skips steps. She does provide a lot of ways to prepare like the course guide and homework. However, the exams are 20x harder than whatever you do in the Course guide or homework.
She is a great teacher and loves math. Sometimes can be pretty passive-aggressive but is overall is caring and wants to help her students succeed. She has a lot of resources to practice for midterms and finals, and her homework as "how did I do" to check the questions. Her exams were fair as long as you studied and practiced.
Great Professor! If you attend the lectures (or watch the recordings) and occasionally do practice questions from the course guide she gives, you'll do fine. The 2nd midterm was brutal, I usually do good on tests, but that one was terrible for everyone. Also, they grade part of your mark on mobius which really brings down your mark as a whole.
simply the worst professor ever
If you're starting first year and choosing a proff, Nevins is solid. BUT. DO NOT EXPECT TO DO WELL W/O WORKING FOR IT, EVEN IF THAT WAS YOUR NORM IN HIGHSCHOOL. I made that mistake and scored awfully for the first two tests, but by the second midterm I'd started to put in the work and by finals I was doing okay, but it did take a lot of effort.
If you got 90s+ in high school calculus but still struggled, DONT take her. She teaches weird and gives extremely hard examples from the get-go. Your math foundation needs to be exceptional in her class or you wont pass. Choose an easier prof who understands youre fresh out of high school and havent reached an optimal math level yet
Horrible teacher, horrible person :)
Great prof, just make sure to practice a lot before assessments. The tests are on the harder side but with good practice it should not matter a lot.
Dr Nevins is a great prof if your main goal is to learn and understand the content. She really makes you work for your mark but she is very good at teaching. The first midterm was fairly easy but the second midterm was very hard. The final exam wasn't bad. She provides a lot of practise questions so make sure to practise and understand content!
Great professor for third-year math. Lectures sometimes go by fast, but there are also complete notes posted online. You have to review the material and do practice questions to succeed on assignments and exams. Overall I enjoyed the course content and teaching.
Hated calc in highschool bc of my teacher but Monica really got through to me and helped me understand the material. Practice is the most important for calc so prioritize that even if u don't understand the theory/concepts.
Dr. Nevins was the first person that actually made math make sense. I had a poor grasp on math through all of high school and expected to do poorly in this class but I found Dr. Nevins to be extremely clear at explaining what is going on in problems and their solutions. Still not fond of math but would take another course of hers in a heartbeat.
MAT4343 is a very tough class but Monica wants all of her students to succeed and is willing to work with you to get you where you need to be as long as you put in the work to seek out help where you need it. Lectures can go by very fast but she posts her lecture notes so you have the chance to catch up on concepts you don't understand.
Monica demands effort from her students and expects your best at all times but also cares very deeply about your success. If you put time and effort in, she will put time and effort into you. She can come across as a little passive aggressive sometimes and will make you work for your success but at the end of the day she is an amazing prof
I don't know what that final exam was but overall she's a good professor. Need lots of practice to understand the material, but to be fair she does encourage practicing on your own time. Easily accessible outside of class. If you ask more than a couple of questions during class she sounds annoyed so better to send an email or go to office hours.
She has a very engaging and bubbly personality. Do your homework though, my final had way more questions on limits then what you'd expect.
She's great! I struggle with math and this was the first time I've enjoyed a math class. She explained everything so well and the prepared lecture notes were so detailed and helpful. She would also host a zoom lecture at the same time, great for 8 AM classes. If i had practiced more, i def would've done better. Hope i get her again in the future.
This prof doesn't care about her students with disabilities at all. My physical disability wasn't letting me do my best in her class and when I went to go see her during her office hours she just told me to not stress... Like excuse me? This prof zooms through her lectures and fills out her course notes faster than anyone can keep up.
Really great prof, best options of the ones offered for calc 1 from what I've heard. She's very organized with her notes & tries her best to motivate students. As someone who struggled through hs calc, she really made the transition way less painful. Definitely recommend her, but do stay up to date with homework and practice plenty of exercises!!!
Professor Nevins is engaging and cares about student success. Her classes require lots of practice, but she provides ample support. Using Unstuck AI alongside the free textbook helped me ace this challenging yet rewarding course.
Honestly, it's calculus 1, you can't really expect that much... Dr. Nevins made comprehensive notes, covering all steps needed to arrive at the final answers. Answered numerous questions throughout the lectures, not ignoring anyone. Responds rapidly, respectfully, and well to all emails. Watch out for your use of notation within Mobius, as it sucks
My only criticism is that she isn't very accommodating, so beware wary of that if you have accommodations. Other the that she's very good, her homework reflects the exams and she always posts past midterms. she really likes explaining why certain things work the way they do which can be confusing, just focus on the actual theory and you're good.
Loved her! She writes fast so you need to pay attention but she really makes sure everyone understands.
Do yourself a favour and take her class. Had great lectures, gives many practice tests/exams and flexible weighting, is always willing to help, and is overall just an amazing prof.
Great professor!! You can tell she really adores teaching calculus. I'd say she grades pretty fairly, and she provides a lot of practice questions that really help you out on the exams. I liked the homework she assigned, I found it very helpful, but Mobius is kind of tricky to use. Overall great prof!! Definitely recommend taking her.
Dr. Nevins is an amazing professor. She is extremely knowledgeable about the subject she teaches and brings so much energy and enthusiasm to every class. Her office hours were incredibly valuable for me. I also really appreciated having the option to attend classes on Zoom. She provides old tests, which is extremely helpful.
She explains things really well, however she does go too fast at times. Slides are posted on BS however so you can always read them again so that you can be clear. Her 2nd midterm was insane though, but I'd say she's a fair grader.
This prof was amazing. I was nervous about taking calculus again but her vibe is just great. I find that she teaches really well for the most part, although some concepts I had to relearn on my own to really understand. For the homework, you can get up to an extra 10%. She also records and posts all her lectures. Highly recommend!!
Honestly, she's great! She's funny and knows her stuff. If you have a question, show up to her office hours, she's very helpful & friendly. Lectures are in class, zoom AND recorded so it's super convenient when sick/tired. It's a tough class, but it's to be expected because it's Calculus lmao, so WORK HARD otherwise you won't be able to catch up.
